Aims and objectives: To assess and compare the quality of paper-based and electronic- based health records. The comparison examined three criteria: content, documentation process and structure. Background: Nursing documentation is a significant indicator of the quality of patient care delivery. It can be either paper-based or organised within the system known as the electronic health records. Nursing documentation must be completed at the highest standards, to ensure the safety and quality of healthcare services. However, the evidence is not clear on which one of the two forms of documentation (paper-based versus electronic health records is more qualified. Methods: A retrospective, descriptive, comparative design was used to address the study’s purposes. A convenient number of patients’ records, from two public hospitals, were audited using the Cat-ch-Ing audit instrument. The sample size consisted of 434 records for both paper-based health records and electronic health records from medical and surgical wards. Results: Electronic health records were better than paper-based health records in terms of process and structure. In terms of quantity and quality content, paper-based records were better than electronic health records. The study affirmed the poor quality of nursing documentation and lack of nurses’ knowledge and skills in the nursing process and its application in both paper-based and electronic-based systems. Conclusion: Both forms of documentation revealed drawbacks in terms of content, process and structure. This study provided important information, which can guide policymakers and administrators in identifying effective strategies aimed at enhancing the quality of nursing documentation. Relevance to clinical practice: Policies and actions to ensure quality nursing documentation at the national level should focus on improving nursing knowledge, competencies, practice in nursing process, enhancing the work environment and nursing workload, as well as strengthening the capacity building of nursing practice to improve the quality of nursing care and patients’ outcomes. Mobile devices are increasingly coming to penetrate people's daily lives. Mobile learning (m-learning) is viewed as key to the coming era of electronic learning (e-learning). In the meantime, the use of mobile devices for learning has made a significant contribution to delivering education among higher education students worldwide. However, while m-learning is being widely adopted in developed countries, the adoption of such an approach in developing countries is still immature and underdeveloped. Developing countries are facing several challenges and lagging behind in terms of adopting m-learning in higher education. Thus, this paper explores the factors that have an impact on students' intentions and readiness to adopt m-learning in higher education in Jordan. Based on the data collected from the field, we examine Jordanian students' requirements and preferences in terms of m-learning design, and we also investigate their concerns about adopting m-learning. This empirical study collected data from students using a paper-based questionnaire. The results reveal that students' intentions to adopt m-learning is influenced by several factors that include the relative advantage, complexity, social influence, perceived enjoyment, and the self-management of learning. By providing a picture of students' willingness to adopt m-learning, this study offers useful and beneficial implications for developers of m-learning applications and for educational providers to guide the design and implementation of comprehensive m-learning systems.

The current paper presents the assessment of the infusion of sustainability principles into university curricula at two Jordanian universities. The peer review process of revising the curricula infusing sustainability principles is also discussed. The research methodology involved quantitative methods to assess the revised courses. The results revealed the following: the most relevant ESD themes in the revised curricula were "human connections to the physical and natural world", and "ethics/values". The most relevant ESD topics were: "sustainable production/consumption" and "health promotion". The most infused ESD pillars (competencies) were: "learning to know" and "learning to do". The most relevant ESD principles were: "practiced locally" and "responds through applied learning". The findings offered a rich scenario of the strategies applied by the university professors in revising the curricula, providing evidence of a mental attitude to adopt ESD strategies, as well as a goal-oriented approach in curriculum planning. The paper also discusses the implications of the study results for syllabus revision and development, as well as the refinement of the teaching methods that focus on infusing sustainability into university curricula.

The purpose of this study is to examine the factors that determine intention to adopt e-learning in Jordanian universities. Two models of e-learning that are observed among adopting institutions: E-learning as a supplement to traditional classroom mode, and total electronic learning. The respondents in this research have just been introduced to the first model. The paper takes a social, and technical approach in its investigation by using a research model based on the Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB) to identify the factors that affect intention to adopt e-learning. The model identifies specific salient beliefs that may influence technology usage, such as instructors attitude, subjective norm, perceived behavioural control, perceived usefulness, ease of use, Normative beliefs, Internet Self-efficacy, Perceived Accessibility and university support. stratified random sampling method was used to select instructors. Hierarchical Multiple Regression Analysis was used to assess the relationships in the constructs. The paper presents some findings on e-learning adoption intention determinants. It also discusses some of the implications of the findings on theory and practice.

This paper aims at investigating the effect of using Arabic language for teaching English as a Foreign Language in a Jordanian context at elementary school stages in Al-Karak Directorate of Education. English language teachers usually intend to focus on using English in their classes, but they come across a big problem which is the lack of communication between the teachers and their students as they have difficulties in comprehending what they think of as a difficult foreign language. The sample of the study consists of 30 participants. The researcher used random sampling to select the participants of the study. The researcher used a questionnaire survey and a test to elicit data from the participants. The findings of the research indicated that using Arabic language as a facilitating tool in English classes has affects negatively and positively teaching English as a foreign language with a classroom setting in a Jordanian context. This paper recommends further research be conducted to investigate relevant types of problems related to this study with different areas.

This paper aims at studying to what extent the female students in Child Education department at Princess Alia University College manage to apply the theoretical part in field training program. The data, which is the scope of this study, consists of 42 staff members and 36 educational supervisors responsible for the program. The two researchers have developed their own approach which is based on the main objects of the program and the theoretical literature used in child education department. The results have shown distinguished differences in statistics which reflect a deeper difference between the two points of view of the members of staff and educational supervisors. However, both parties agree on professional qualities. Qualities related to management of educational processes were given priority by the two parties while developing processes came later. Based on these results, the researchers provide a number of recommendations related to the main theme of this paper.

This paper is an endeavor to develop a customised and computerized matrix of Quality Function Deployment paradigm (QFD) that has been applied in industry, with the aim of probing quality assurance and enhancement in Universities. Results of testing the new matrix proved that, it is efficient and time-saving while compared with a detailed field study conducted at Philadelphia University, Jordan by the Jordan Accreditation Council. Challenges facing the application of the diverse relevant methodologies are mainly the scarcity of communication technologies and lack of physical and financial resources. This paper supports the adoption of the customized paradigm, to point out the following such as, Hybrid edutainment should be implemented; offices of quality management should be given a role in decision-making in Universities; awareness programs regarding the methods of quality assurance and enhancement should be organized, the culture of collaboration and interactivity among faculty members should be supported; and formation of regional networks of quality management should be advocated.

This study aims to evaluate medical students' impressions and attitudes toward scientific journal articles, and their accessibility to them in one of the developing countries, Jordan. Fourteen questions were asked to medical students to assess their knowledge and accessibility to papers, and to discover the impact of low interest in scientific papers on students' dealing with COVID-19. Data were analyzed using descriptive and analytical statistics. The study found that there is an unsatisfactory reading for scientific journal articles among medical students, with only 47.2% of students reading them. Furthermore, there are unsatisfactory results regarding students' knowledge about journal types from the trust perspective (i.e., predatory and reliable journals). This was mainly because of a lack of adequate universal teaching about scientific journal articles, as 86.7% of medical students reported that their universities do not teach them about scientific journal articles. The absence of comprehensive learning about scientific journal articles had a potential negative impact on the medical student's handling of COVID-19 socially (i.e., advising people in the community about vaccination importance, social distancing, and other preventive measures). Librarians should be involved primarily in undergraduate education related to scientific journal articles, and their role in providing subscription-based journals free of charge, as well as protecting students from predatory journals through suitable library instructions, is essential. This paper is a review of blended learning as a catalyst of optimizing the achievement of learning objectives. Blended learning forms an attempt to apply the right learning technologies to match the right personal learning styles to transfer the right skills to the right persons at the right times. The paper is about rethinking the teaching and learning processes through reconsidering the traditional concepts of university pedagogy, student attendance patterns and methods of learning. The paper uses three questionnaires to examine the environment of educational practices at Philadelphia University-Jordan as a model of Arab universities. It outlines the pros and cons of new technological devices currently used, or are projected to be used within the coming five years from the point of view of a stratified random sample of around (42%) of the faculty at Philadelphia University. It demarcates the challenges and risks waiting ahead from using such devices, and tries to describe some future directions in the field of blended learning. The paper also delineates the structure-map of a model of the teaching process of an e-learning module. Responses to the questionnaires indicate that online courses, social networks and text messaging notification will certainly be in use in university pedagogy within five years, while mashups and sensor networks have meager opportunity to prevail. Results show that the semester university system is expected to become obsolete due to the varied lengths of modules, and that university requirements will vary. Feasibility of tailoring programs according to student preferences has low opportunity of adoption. The responses indicate a high risk of students graduating without obtaining the basic knowledge of certain subjects due to easy access to information and research. Results also reveal an increased possibility of plagiarism, and that there is no expected increase in students engaging in unacceptable behavior towards faculty as a result of using new technological devices. The paper concludes that Arab universities are still lagging in adopting blended learning due to the inadequacy of organizational readiness, unqualified faculty, high cost of module production, and the unavailability of the infrastructure needed especially in rural areas. Collaborative work among universities seems essential to achieve positive change in the modes of education based on interactivity. Recommendations at university and governmental levels are highlighted to promote the implementation of blended learning at Arab universities.

This paper aims at exploring the reasons behind the contradiction between the outputs of tourism educational programs in Jordanian universities and expectations of tourism employers from the perception of tourism private businesses (travel agents and hotels), also to make an evaluation of universities' educational outcomes. Seventy-nine tourism establishments filled a questionnaire that focused on evaluating the level of students graduating from universities; this was concerning their skills and knowledge besides the degree of communication between educational bodies and the industry. The results indicate a general weakness in these aspects; based on this, the paper presented suggested implications to improve the quality of educational programs in tourism departments at Jordanian universities.

Throughout the world there is awareness of the fundamental role of new Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) in the field of education. Theoretical and empirical studies have considered the importance of ICTs in the process of teaching and learning. This current paper investigates the level of ICT use for educational purposes by teachers in Jordanian rural secondary schools. The paper will contribute to the body of knowledge regarding the level of ICT use and also, concerning the importance of teachers' attitudes towards the use of ICT for educational purposes. The data for the study were collected through the use of quantitative data. In October 2008, a questionnaire was distributed to 650 teachers in Jordan, randomly selected. Four hundred sixty teachers responded to the questionnaire. The survey included questions concerning the level of ICT use as well as questions related to the attitudes of teachers towards the use of ICT. The findings of the study, which were obtained by analyzing the data collected from the teachers revealed that, teachers had a low level of ICT use for educational purpose, teachers hold positive attitudes towards the use of ICT, and a significant positive correlation between teachers' level of ICT use and their attitudes towards ICT was found. The findings suggest that ICTs use for educational purposes should be given greater consideration than it currently receives. In general, the results were consistent with those previously reported in studies related to the use of ICT in the educational settings.

The objective of this study is to identify the competencies required to achieve success in the transition from higher education to the labour market based on the perceptions of employers. This paper analyses the assessments made by a group of engineering company employers. An item-battery of 20 competencies was grouped into 3 dimensions by using factor analysis. Subsequently, respondents' scores were also clustered into three groups and characterised through contingency tables. The competencies demanded by employers were grouped into business and finance, problem-solving and strategic planning. Significant differences were found between responses from employers working in medium and small companies, who placed more importance on competencies related to problem-solving and strategic planning, and employers in big companies, who were more concerned about the difficulties of finding well-trained graduates. The findings from this paper have important implications for research in the areas of higher education and organisations that usually employ graduate engineers.

This paper addresses itself to the outcomes of a field study which was carried out to identify Jordanian EFL students' attitudes towards using group work in EFL classrooms. The study sample consisted of 179 students enrolled in English 101, an elementary language skills course taught at Al- Huson University College, Al -Balqa' Applied University, Jordan. A questionnaire was used to investigate the subjects' attitudes. The findings show that approximately two-thirds of the participants are either "very extrovert" or "somewhat extrovert", i.e. they have positive attitudes towards participating in group work in EFL classes. In contrast, only a third are either "somewhat introvert" or "very introvert", i.e., they do not like to take part in group work in EFL classes. Moreover, the data show that neither the subjects' gender nor their secondary school stream (vocational, scientific, or literary) has any significant effect on their preferences.

The study aimed to identify the (appropriate educational means of dealing with the phenomenon of smoking among Zarqa University students), and to achieve this goal, the descriptive approach has been used, also used a questionnaire submitted to (800) students of the sample, and a couple of open questions has been submitted to 70 members of the targeted faculty. Results showed that the prevalence of smoking among Zarqa University students were big and that is because of three major factors led to the spread of this phenomenon, which are the psychological factors: family factors, social factors. The results showed an accord among the sample members on ten appropriate techniques to deal with the phenomenon of smoking. These techniques are: (religious faith development in students to prevent themselves, notice the smoker about the harmful results of smoking on the body, hiring the unity of guidance and psychological services, intensify the awareness and establish a guiding exhibits of smoking effects and invite students and their parents to visit them through the indicative weeks, preparing brochures and pamphlets continued throughout the year as well as lectures, meetings and participate in the global weeks to combat smoking, preparing work papers and researches, preparing of research competitions, encourage students to engage in the various university activities to fill their leisure time, switching the smoker to Special unit (anti-smoking clinic) of medical treatment, guiding smokers by others that had quit, applying the rules of behavior and attendance.

Service learning methodologies provide students of information systems with the opportunity to create and implement systems in real-world, public service-oriented social contexts. This paper presents a case study which involves integrating a service learning project into an undergraduate Computer Information Systems course entitled "Information Systems'' for the first time at the Hashemite University in Jordan. The project requires students to visit local non-profit and government agencies to learn about and to provide needed information systems services and solutions that are closely related to the specific course topics they have come across during their lectures. Students are required to brainstorm and suggest innovative ideas and to provide the information systems services and solutions required based on tips and hints provided by the instructor and specialized consultants in the field. In these activities, students actively evaluate and analyze the complex contributors associated with understanding problem domains, as well as designing and implementing real-world solutions. A student's achievement in this project is evaluated by their academic supervisor, their community partners, and the student's own reflections on their experience. This paper presents qualitative analysis of integrating service learning and civic engagement in this course, and highlights benefits, challenges, and recommendations for future implementation.

This paper is concerned with the improvement of teaching and learning process through the adoption of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and e-learning in Jordanian higher education institutions particularly in The Hashemite University (HU). The main challenge of the study is to provide such an understanding of how ICT and e-learning would be accepted through applying the Diffusion of Innovation (DOI) theory. Factors influencing user acceptance and adoption of ICT in Jordan on student motivations for the acceptance of technologies necessary for the delivery of e-learning activities are handled in this paper. The findings show the significant relationship between student's perception of technology characteristics and their attitude towards using the technology in the educational system.

The objective of this paper is to examine the attitudes of administrative leaders and administrative employees concerning the training courses provided, as well as the impact of training on employee job performance at Yarmouk University in Jordan. The study is carried at a Malaysian small and medium enterprise (SME). Findings indicated that training courses are related to the training needs of the employees to a medium degree, and that there are several conditions which determine selecting eligible employees for training. Results indicated also that there is relationship between effective training and employees' job performance. Based on the results of the study, several recommendations were provided.

This paper aims at investigating the effect of Arabization of Romanic Alphabets on the development of 9th Grade English as a Foreign Language students' composition writing skills at secondary school level. This experimental study includes 25 secondary school students in their 9th Grade in which English is taught as a foreign language at Al-Husainieh Secondary School for boys. The finding of this study indicates that students usually tend to write and compose English language sentences through Romanizing Arabic letters. This may be related to different reasons such as their weakness in writing and lack of awareness about specific aspect of sentence structures and lack of vocabulary deposit, but even good students tend to use the Romanic alphabets in writing. This study recommends that students should be familiar with the meaning of English words.

This paper presents the results of a comparative investigation into the learning styles of successful and unsuccessful language learners. Subjects of the study were seventeen graduate university students at Yarmouk University, Jordan. They were categorized as "successful" or "unsuccessful" learners, on the basis of their final scores on their English examination administered at the end of the semester, and their oral presentations which they had to give during the semester to measure their ability of speaking, discussing and defending themselves in English appropriately. The subjects of the study completed a questionnaire through which data were collected on their learning styles and preferences as well as their patterns of language practice and use. Findings of the study showed that there were no significant relationship between the subjects' learning styles and their proficiency or achievement in English. The study also revealed some key differences in the subjects' learning styles.

Drawing on data gathered from British Council seminars in Hong Kong, Tokyo and Dubai on "Absent Talent: Women in Research and Academic Leadership" (2012-2013), this paper discusses academic women's experiences and explanations for women's under-representation as knowledge leaders and producers in the global academy. Participants from South and East Asia, the Middle East, North Africa, Australasia and Europe shared experiences and identified desires for future action in the form of a "Manifesto for Change." The paper combines empirical data on enablers, impediments and attractions with consideration of debates on women's exclusions and disqualifications from academic leadership and knowledge production. A key question is whether women are desiring, dismissing or being disqualified from senior leadership positions in the global academy.

This paper reports the findings of a study which aimed to explore the learning and behavioral characteristics of students with Learning Disabilities (LDs) in Jordan. Specifically, variables that related to challenging behaviors, school's type, and gender differences were investigated. Four resource room teachers in public and private schools were asked to rate (168) students with LDs on the Arabic version of the Building Blocks Questionnaire (Mather & Goldstein, 2008). The findings indicate that over half of the students with LDs are suffering from challenging behaviors. In addition, students with LDs in private schools presented a better learning and behavioral profile than students with LDs in public schools. The results also showed that there is female under representation in special education services in Jordan. Implications and limitations of the study are discussed with reference to previous research and directions for future investigation.

This paper briefly describes the development and status of family planning (FP) services, including counseling, in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. It also reports extensively on a FP counseling training course organized by the Jordanian Association for Family Planning and Protection (JAFPP) which is a local NGO. A field survey approach, with qualitative and quantitative dimensions, was adopted. Questionnaires were used to solicit information about the trainees' backgrounds, the course material, the methods and techniques of presentation employed by the trainers, and the benefits derived from the course. The findings provide statistical results which shed more light on FP in Jordan, and lay the foundation for specific measures for improvement which the author recommends at the end of the paper.

The aim of this research is to explore Jordanian undergraduate students' intrinsic and extrinsic motivations and instrumental and integrative orientations toward learning English, French, and German as foreign languages. The paper also reflects on how subtypes of intrinsic and extrinsic motivations relate to orientations and examines possible inter-relationships between these constructs and student achievement in English, French, and German classes. In the study, 166 students majoring in English, French, or German at Al-Hussein Bin Talal University completed a questionnaire (mainly adapted from Noels, Pelletier, Clement, & Vallerand, 2000) designed to investigate the abovementioned constructs. The results showed, contrary to expectations, no significant correlations among orientation, intrinsic and extrinsic motivation and achievement. These findings were not in line with previous research findings, which have shown a correlation between orientation and achievement (i.e., Gardner, 1985) and between intrinsic and extrinsic motivation and achievement (i.e., Noels et al., 2000). In addition, significant differences were found among the three groups of students in terms of instrumental orientation, amotivation, and external regulation. Other interesting results were also found regarding the constructs. Possible implications and recommendations from these findings are discussed.

Today's rapid changing world highlights the influence and impact of technology in all aspects of learning life. Higher Education institutions in developed Western countries believe that these developments offer rich opportunities to embed technological innovations within the learning environment. This places developing countries, striving to be equally competitive in international markets, under tremendous pressure to similarly embed appropriate blends of technologies within their learning and curriculum approaches, and consequently enhance and innovate their learning experiences. Although many universities across the world have incorporated internet-based learning systems, the success of their implementation requires an extensive understanding of the end user acceptance process. Learning using technology has become a popular approach within higher education institutions due to the continuous growth of Internet innovations and technologies. Therefore, this paper focuses on the investigation of students, who attempt to successfully adopt e-learning systems at universities in Jordan. The conceptual research framework of e-learning adoption, which is used in the analysis, is based on the technology acceptance model. The study also provides an indicator of students' acceptance of e-learning as well as identifying the important factors that would contribute to its successful use. The outcomes will enrich the understanding of students' acceptance of e-learning and will assist in its continuing implementation at Jordanian Universities.

This study aims to investigate the effect of using concordances and word processors on EFL graduates' performance in academic writing. To achieve this aim, the subjects were asked to use linguistics corpora and word processors to correct their grammatical and spelling mistakes in their written papers in a course that lasted for sixteen weeks. The sample of the study consisted of 48 MA students. Quantitative and qualitative measures were used to gain possible results of the effect of using concordances and word processors on the learners' achievement and performance in writing. Ratio gain relations were estimated, too. To find the participants' achievement, pre- and post-tests were used; semi-interviews and answers to a questionnaire were also analyzed to investigate their attitude toward using concordances and word processors in writing. The findings indicated that their performance improved due to the effect of using concordances; however, spelling and grammar word processor had a slighter effect on their achievement. Recommendations were included for further research.

This paper presents an exploratory study of Jordanian chemistry student teachers' and experienced teachers' beliefs about teaching and learning. Different instruments were used, focusing on different aspects of teaching and learning. The first instrument is based on teachers' and students' drawings of teaching situations. It includes open questions evaluated by a grid describing teachers' Beliefs about Classroom Organization, Beliefs about Teaching Objectives and Epistemological Beliefs. A second evaluation using the same data source is made by applying the "Draw-A-Science-Teacher-Teaching"-Checklist (DASTT-C), which shows the teacher- or student-centeredness of teachers' beliefs concerning science teaching. A third approach is composed of a Likert-questionnaire examining teachers' beliefs about what constitutes good education in general. The results indicate that both above-mentioned groups hold quite traditional beliefs, which are teacher- and purely content-centered when it comes to chemistry teaching practices. Student teachers profess ideas which are even more pronouncedly traditional. Nevertheless, the general educational beliefs are more open and promising. Implications for chemistry teacher education and educational reform in Jordan are also addressed. (Contains 4 figures and 5 tables.)

This paper focuses on the impact of the organization of teaching approaches on the effectiveness of training for Jordanian EFL teachers. The sample for this study is drawn from all government schools in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. The study uses a mixed-method approach whereby findings are triangulated throughout (in interviews, observations, and questionnaires). The study finds that most of the in-service training courses for EFL teachers are not properly organized. Moreover, taking into account different approaches, this study shows that a serious problem hinders the effectiveness of the in-service training courses.

The purpose of this study was to examine Jordanian early childhood teachers' perspectives toward science teaching and learning and understand the contextual lived science experiences as realized by teachers in early childhood settings. The study has utilized mixed methods approach. An Arabic-validated version of the Early Childhood Teachers' Attitudes toward Science Teaching questionnaire was completed by 101 early childhood teachers who were randomly selected from preschools and kindergartens in Zarqa city; one of the biggest and highly populated cities in Jordan. Follow-up in-depth interviews were then conducted with 15 teachers who were randomly selected from the teachers whose permission was granted through collected questionnaires. Findings of the quantitative part of this study indicate that Jordanian early childhood teachers hold, in general, positive attitudes toward science. None of the variables (i.e., number of years of experience, qualification level of the teachers and number of science courses taken) had significant effect on the teachers' attitudes. Despite the reported positive attitudes, most teachers in this study reported that they allocate an average of less than 30 minutes per week to the teaching and learning of science in their early childhood classrooms. Qualitative data analysis helped in contextualizing the questionnaire findings. Three major themes emerged through constant comparative analysis of the interviews' transcripts: comfort and confidence in light of contextual experience, science instructional practices, and reasons behind the limited instructional time dedicated to science. This research paper ends by considering the role of the continuous professional development and pre-service teacher preparation programs in upgrading early childhood teachers' attitudes toward science teaching and learning.

This paper studies the role and the importance of Information and Communication Technologies for Development (ICT4D) education in Information Technology (IT) programs. The research included the students who attended an ICT4D course at NYiT Amman Campus in the academic years of 2006 to 2009. Data were collected through two questionnaires developed by the researcher responsible for teaching the course. The first questionnaire was administered in the first lecture of the academic semester, and the second questionnaire was administered in the last lecture. The study shows that the students have expressed that an ICT4D course was an important ingredient in the IT curriculum. Of the students, 98.8% expressed that ICT4D had an important role in IT practices and education, 97.1% stated that they were satisfied with the course, 96.7% expressed that the course met the objectives. As a result, it was suggested that the ICT4D course be included in Bachelor of Information Technology curriculum.

E-learning is emerging as the new phenomenon of modern education. Universities are adopting e-learning as a strategy for the improving the teaching/learning process. The primary question addressed in this paper is related to the factors influencing the adoption of e-learning. An integrated model was used to explore the factors influencing students' satisfaction with e-learning in Jordan. The model adopted five variables from the technology acceptance model, Delone and McLean model and the social cognitive theory to predict students' satisfaction with e-learning. A sample of 386 students was utilized and an instrument with 30 items was used. Results indicated that perceived ease of use, perceived usefulness, system quality, information quality, and computer self-efficacy are major factors influencing students' satisfaction. The coefficient of determination estimated to be 0.498, and yielded a full support of all proposed hypotheses. Conclusions and future work are reported at the end of this study.

Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to assess the level of nurses' competencies while providing care to COVID-19 patients. Design/methodology/approach: A descriptive, correlational design was used to collect data from nurses who were providing care to COVID-19 patients at four public hospitals. Findings: A total of 377 nurses (64.5% females) aged 23–50 consented to participate and completed the survey. The mean score of nurses' competencies in providing care to COVID-19 patients was 2.5 (SD = 0.81). The results of correlation coefficient tests disclosed a significant positive correlation between reported competence level and sex rpb (377) = 0.18, p < 0.01; working area rpb (377) = 0.2, p < 0.01; disaster experience rpb (377) = 0.16, p < 0.01; disaster education rpb (377) = 0.25, p < 0.01; and disaster training rpb (377) = 0.31, p < 0.01. Research limitations/implications: The COVID-19 pandemic response heavily relied on nurses. However, they had a gap in clinical competencies that indicates an urgent need to incorporate disaster management courses in basic nursing education and to update training in hospitals based on nurses' needs to improve their capabilities in dealing with COVID-19 pandemic. Background: Poor medication adherence is a concern among patients with hypertension. However, few studies have assessed the effect of health literacy on medication adherence among refugee patients. Aim: The aim was to examine the effect of health literacy and associated factors in explaining medication adherence among Syrian refugee patients with hypertension. Methods: A cross‐sectional study was used, recruiting 150 Syrian refugees with hypertension in February 2020. The Hill‐Bone scale and the Health Literacy Questionnaire were used to collect data, which were analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Results: Participants had low levels of medication adherence and had low mean scores in eight of nine subscales of the health literacy scale, except in the appraisal of health information subscale. Factors including patient's age, marital status, the number of medications and co‐morbid diseases were significantly associated with medication adherence. Age, understanding written health information and ability to engage with healthcare providers were predictive of medication adherence. Conclusion: To increase medication adherence among refugee patients with hypertension, nurses need to improve patients' health literacy and understanding of health information about their disease. Refugees report a higher prevalence of chronic diseases than non‐refugees due to a lack of available medications and limited access to health‐care services.Adherence to antihypertensive drugs is the cornerstone for accomplishing hypertension control.Health literacy is closely associated with better adherence to medications. Aims: We examined the predictive factors of COVID‐19 vaccine hesitancy among Jordanian older adults. Background: Vaccine hesitancy among older adults is influenced by several factors. Design: This study employed a cross‐sectional design. Methods: Online surveys were conducted between November 2021 and April 2022. The surveys included socio‐demographic variables, COVID‐19 vaccine‐related information, the Vaccine Attitude Examination Scale and the Fear of COVID‐19 Scale. Results: Participants were 350 older adults (aged 68.1 ± 7.21 years; 62.9% females). Linear regression analyses were performed to assess the impact of correlated variables on the explanation of anti‐vaccination attitudes. Participants reported a moderate level of fear of COVID‐19 and a moderate level of hesitancy towards receiving the COVID‐19 vaccine. The linear regression model revealed that several chronic illnesses, fear of COVID‐19 and number of family incidences of COVID‐19 explained vaccine hesitancy. Conclusions: Raising awareness among older adults about the desired effect of the COVID‐19 vaccine in terms of minimizing hospitalization, disease consequences and mortality rate is required. Well‐tailored interventions are essential to reduce vaccine hesitancy among older adults and reinforce the importance of receiving the vaccine for those with multi‐morbidities. This study is the first to address student evaluation of faculty members (SFE) from a student perspective at a major Jordanian public university using a comprehensive (71-item) questionnaire administered to 620 undergraduates. Addressed are students' perceptions of the SFE process in terms of: (a) their paper-based vs. online-format preferences; (b) their beliefs about the process; (c) the standards they adopt in the evaluation; (d) the fruitfulness of SFE outcomes; and (e) their opinions about the evaluation instruments currently used at their institutions. It also explores whether students' beliefs vary according to their gender, GPA and college (Educational Sciences vs. Sciences). The results reveal that most students prefer online evaluation, adopt academic rather than interpersonal criteria in their evaluation, have a low level of satisfaction with the impact of previous evaluations on faculty teaching behaviours and the evaluation instruments used at their institution. Additionally, the findings suggest that gender has a less influential role in shaping students' beliefs about the SFE process compared to their college or GPA. The findings of this study and their implications are very useful pointers for faculty and higher education administrators, faculty members and students towards further improvement at higher education institutions.

This paper describes international education at the University of Jordan (UJ). Specifically it investigates a random sample of international students comprising Americans, Europeans and Asians. A field survey approach with qualitative and quantitative dimensions was used. Questionnaires were used to solicit information from the students. In addition, personal interviews were conducted with a number of students and teachers. The findings show that the students benefited in all major categories: cultural awareness, knowledge of world affairs, career enhancement and personal growth. This study is particularly important because in Jordan international education is taking place in an environment where the language, culture, traditions and beliefs are not shared by most international students, especially Americans and Europeans. Moreover, although Jordanians are hospitable and friendly towards foreigners there is a sense of dissatisfaction and disappointment towards certain policies and actions of Western Governments. The main aim of this exploratory study is to test "Service Learning" as a teaching and learning strategy in Jordanian universities by integrating service learning into a counselling course at the Hashemite University. After providing a 12-h service at 10 service locations, a 16-item questionnaire was administered to 60 senior counselling students to assess their perceptions about the service experience. Administrators of the service locations also completed a questionnaire about their level of satisfaction regarding the service provided. Qualitative data were also collected from groups' portfolios, and reflection papers based on students involvement in service learning. The findings of the study revealed that service learning promotes students' learning of the course content, students' sense of connection to their classmates and university, their sense of social responsibility and professional development. Administrators were satisfied with the service and looked forward to future cooperation with the university. (Contains 3 tables.)

This paper reports the results of an investigation of satisfaction of 135 resource room teachers and 190 mothers of children served in resource room programs in Jordan. Information from teachers was gathered using questionnaires, semi-structured interviews, and classroom visits. Information from parents was gathered using a brief questionnaire. Teachers reported a moderate level of satisfaction with working conditions in resource rooms. They were most satisfied with their job as resource room teachers and relationships with colleagues. They were most dissatisfied with salary and fringe benefits and family involvement in educational programs. Mothers were highly satisfied with resource rooms. They were most satisfied with the improvement in the academic performance of their children in the resource room and least satisfied with the school's communication with them. (Contains 2 tables.)

In this paper we examine the language situation among the Gypsies of Jordan within the framework of previous theories on language maintenance and shift as proposed by Le Page, Fishman, Dorian and Kelman. The study investigates language and cultural maintenance among the Gypsies of Jordan to permit comparison of the relative influences of various social parameters on their use of both Arabic and Gypsy. Here we analyse a corpus of data collected from 100 speakers by means of a questionnaire and interviews. Evidence is presented that Arabic is used for various functions and Gypsy is still used in a variety of social domains, viz. home, neighbourhood, religious and cultural settings. Language maintenance is attributed here to the fact that the Gypsies find themselves unable to gain access to the majority-group culture, and thus they often come to be clustered in their own areas by the element of "necessity" imposed on them by the majority host community. It has also been observed that the social and cultural isolation of the Gypsies from the Jordanian mainstream has contributed to cultural maintenance among them. A comparison between the results of this study and those of Al-Khatib's work on the Armenians of Jordan, another minority group inhabiting the country for the same period, shows that unlike the Armenians, the Gypsies of Jordan are experiencing a clear-cut case of language and cultural maintenance. Aim: To explore the validity and reliability of the Missed Nursing Care Survey after translating it into the Arabic language. Methods: We employed a cross‐sectional design. We recruited 260 Jordanian nurses, and data were collected between May and July 2020. Translation, acceptability, construct, convergent, discriminant validity and reliability were investigated. Results: The factor analysis showed an adequate fit (three subscales) between the proposed missing care survey model and the observed data. This model reflected the survey's construct, convergent and discriminant validity, explaining 58.88% of the variance collectively. Confirmatory factor analyses showed adequate goodness‐of‐fit results (goodness of fit index = 0.91, comparative fit index = 0.94, increment fit index = 0.94, Tucker Lewis index = 0.92 and root mean square error of approximation = 0.06). The total Cronbach alpha and composite reliability achieved the criterion for all constructs in this survey. Conclusion: This Arabic version of the Missed Nursing Care Survey achieved the required level of validity and reliability. Measuring missed care and its reasons may help to improve quality of health services and assist nurse managers in designing appropriate interventions to reduce it. The whole of society has been passing through difficult times due to the effects of COVID‐19. Such a lengthy period has greatly impacted lifestyles and living standards. Accordingly, this paper aimed to examine the role of Jordanian children in purchasing decision‐making within the framework of parental mediation during COVID‐19. A quantitative methodology was applied, and a questionnaire targeted 287 children aged 8–12. Findings demonstrated a correlation between the influence of COVID‐19. They changed the purchasing behaviour of children, as their daily habits have changed to increased periods of stay at home, leading to a long preoccupation with watching the Internet/commercials. The current study investigated the quality of media coverage on issues regarding people with disabilities in Jordan from the perspectives of journalists and special education teachers. Although Jordan has adopted legislation to support and protect people with disabilities, people with disabilities are three times more likely to be illiterate & half as likely to be employed. Although physical accessibility creates some barriers, negative attitudes and stigma are major barriers. Since media can play a significant role in attitudes towards people with disabilities, this study surveyed journalists' and special education teachers' perceptions of the quality of media coverage in Jordan. Using convenience sampling, 160 journalists and 208 special education teachers from Amman and Irbid cities participated in the study by completing self-administered paper-and-pencil questionnaires. Results indicate that, overall, journalists and special education teachers felt the quality of media coverage for issues related to people with disabilities in Jordan was acceptable (but not good or excellent), although journalists were statistically significantly more likely to rate the quality of coverage was better than the rating provided by special education teachers. Background: Secondary prevention is a priority after coronary revascularization for effective long‐term cardiovascular care. Coronary Heart Disease is a major health problem in Jordan, but little is known about the current provision of secondary prevention. Aim: The aim of this study was to evaluate risk factors and explore the current provision of secondary Coronary Heart Disease prevention among patients presenting with first‐time Coronary Heart Disease at two time points: during hospitalization (Time 1) and 6 months later (Time 2), in multicentre settings in Jordan. Methods: A descriptive, repeated measures research study design was applied to a consecutive sample of 180 patients with first‐time Coronary Heart Disease. Demographic and clinical details were recorded from medical files. Self‐administered questionnaires developed by the researchers were used to measure secondary prevention information related to Coronary Heart Disease, including secondary prevention services, lifestyle advice received and medical advice topics. A short form of the International Physical Activity Questionnaire was used to measure physical activity. Participants were assessed at Times 1 and 2. Results: Unstructured lifestyle advice given to the patients at Times 1 and 2 most frequently related to medications, smoking, diet and blood lipids control advice topics, with no statistically significant improvement in cardiovascular risk factors among patients between Times 1 and 2. Conclusion: Despite an extremely high prevalence of risk factors in this population, the provision of secondary prevention is poor in Jordan, which requires urgent improvement, and the contribution of nurses' to secondary prevention should be enhanced. As one of the most emerging technologies, Radio-Frequency IDentification (RFID) spread is accelerating to reach many fields that were not expected before. A lot of applications use RFID to improve the speed and to increase the efficiency. With RFID, automated tracking of products from the manufacturer of that product to the point of sale never has been that fast before. This paper focuses mainly on describing this technology, its types and its applications and presents results of a questionnaire about the readiness of this technology in Jordan. As the case with any new technology, the paper discusses some issues related to this technology such as customer privacy and increased cost. New ideas of employing RFID technology in new fields are also discussed including how to use RFID tags to improve the checking points at universities gates, locating home objects and controlling car speed in crowded locations. Background: Job demand and job satisfaction in nursing profession have been identified as significant indicators of quality of nursing care. Job demand is the most influential job stressor and has been connected to negative consequences on nurses' ability to function. Purpose The purpose of this study was to examine the moderating effect of work locus of control on the relationship between job demand and job satisfaction among nurses working at public hospitals. Methods: A quantitative, cross‐sectional, correlational design was utilized to randomly recruit 427 registered nurses working at two major public hospitals. Data were collected using a self‐administered questionnaire regarding job demand, job satisfaction and work locus of control. Results: Work locus of control had a significant moderating effect on the relationship between job demand and satisfaction. External locus of control had a negative effect on the job demand and job satisfaction relationship, whereas internal locus of control positively buffered this correlation. Conclusion: This study adds a novel contribution to the body of knowledge that buffering effect of job demand among nurses is much dependent on appropriately enhancing internal locus of control, consequently improving job satisfaction. Aim: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the compliance of Jordanian nurses with ventilator‐associated pneumonia prevention guidelines and the barriers to compliance. Method: A descriptive, cross‐sectional design was used. A convenience sample of 294 nurses from nine hospitals in Jordan completed a self‐reported questionnaire. Results: According to the study compliance categories, 45.6% of the participants reported 'insufficient compliance,' 24.8% 'weak compliance' and 29.6% 'sufficient compliance.' Nurses with more experience and previous education on ventilator‐associated pneumonia reported higher compliance scores than their counterparts with less experience and no previous education. Nurses reported several barriers that limited their own compliance, such as lack of education, lack of policies and protocols, lack of resources and the shortage of staff. Conclusion: The compliance of nursing staff with the prevention guidelines was poor. Applying tailored educational programs may help improve their level of compliance. These programs must target new graduate nurses and be conducted in those hospitals with limited resources. SUMMARY STATEMENT: What is known about this topic? Purpose: This study aims to compare nurses' authentic leadership and perceptions of the safety climate and concepts association according to different areas of work and types of hospitals. Design/methodology/approach: A cross-sectional design was used to conduct this comparative study on 314 Jordanian nurses. The Authentic Leadership Questionnaire (ALQ) and the Safety Climate Survey (SCS) were used. Findings: Nurses in private hospitals were more educated. True leadership was mild. Unit nurses had higher ALQ and subscale mean scores. Armed forces hospitals had the highest ALQ subscales, while governmental hospitals had the lowest. The ALQ mean scores favored military hospitals. Governmental hospitals have a negative safety climate. Unit nurses had a higher SCS mean than ward nurses. Military, governmental and private hospitals are rated the safest. Nurses benefited from higher SCS scores in military hospitals. Nurses' ALQ and safety climate perceptions were moderately positive. Research limitations/implications: A larger, randomized and equal-sized sample is recommended in future studies to conclude different areas of work and hospitals. It is also recommended to report the confidence interval in further studies using different statistical methods, increasing confidence when interpreting statistical significance variables. Other mediating, moderating and predicting variables could be studied and compared across different areas of work and types of hospitals. Sample characteristics should be handled as confounding variables in the next planned study using various ways to control confounding variables such as randomization, restriction, matching, regression and statistical control. The authors plan to statistically control for the confounding variables by entering them into the regression model. Future studies could investigate safety culture; both safety culture and safety climate are formative and inclusive terms (Experts Insight, 2017). Practical implications: This paper fills in the gap in the literature and practice. Authentic leadership is associated with safety climate perceptions and varies across different areas of work and hospitals. Interventions are required to improve safety climate perceptions and promote authentic leadership in all settings and hospitals. Military hospitals ranked the highest in nurses' perceptions of authentic leadership and safety climate. Social implications: The current study's favorable association between authentic leadership and safety climate measurement would apply to many high-risk institutions, including public and private hospitals. It becomes necessary to include the impacts of authentic leadership on the safe climate within the nursing curriculum and continuing education courses. This may be put into action by executing a hands-on activity, followed by information and reflection conversations that highlight the link between authentic leadership and safety climate measurement. According to the findings of this study, authentic leadership appears to be a basic block in making a difference in nurses' views of safety climate. Originality/value: Authentic leadership style is a relatively new concept in the health-care sector, and its link to safety climate security still needs empirical evidence. It is still unclear how leadership resulted in more effective outcomes (Maziero et al., 2020). Few studies investigated both the concepts of authentic leadership and the nursing safety climate (Dirik and Intepeler, 2017; Lee et al., 2019a; Woo and Han, 2018). Aside from the scarcity of studies, no study has compared "working area," "department" or "hospital type" concepts. Few comparative studies have been conducted using concepts of interest. For example, authentic leadership was linked to empowerment and burnout (Laschinger et al., 2013) and nurses' satisfaction with safety climates (Vatani et al., 2021). No research has examined authentic leadership in Jordan's nursing and health-care context. Few studies focused on the safety climate other than authentic leadership (Abualrub et al., 2012) or the safety culture in Jordan rather than the safety climate (Khater et al., 2015). Aim: The aim of this study is to cross‐culturally translate and adapt the Cardiac Self‐Efficacy Questionnaire into Arabic and subsequently evaluate the psychometric properties of that translation in a population of Arabic patients. Method: The original English version of the Cardiac Self‐Efficacy Questionnaire was translated into Arabic following a process recommended by the World Health Organization. A convenience sample consisting of 268 Jordanian patients with coronary heart disease was recruited from a university‐affiliated hospital in Amman, Jordan. Data were collected from October 2018 to March 2019. The factor structure, face and content validities, and internal consistency of the Arabic Cardiac Self‐Efficacy Questionnaire (A‐CSEQ) were evaluated. Results: The factor structure analysis supported a three‐factor high‐order structure of the A‐CSEQ. Face validity showed that the language used, style, and format were clear. The content validity demonstrated a very good content validity index. The reliability was good with ranging from 0.89 to 0.93 for all questionnaire subscales. Conclusion: The A‐CSEQ is a valid and reliable instrument to assess the cardiac self‐efficacy of Arabic patients diagnosed with coronary heart disease. Globally, cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of death and are increasing progressively particularly in the Middle Eastern countries.High self‐efficacy level is associated with the adoption of a healthy lifestyle by patients with coronary heart disease (CHD).There is no valid and reliable Arabic tool to measure cardiac self‐efficacy among CHD patients comparable with the Cardiac Self‐Efficacy Questionnaire (CSEQ). What this paper adds? The Arabic version of the Cardiac Self‐Efficacy Questionnaire (A‐CSEQ) is a valid and reliable instrument to assess cardiac self‐efficacy level among patients with CHD.Using Modern Standard Arabic (Fusha) during the translation and cross‐cultural adaptation process makes the A‐CSEQ more broadly applicable for a range of cardiac patients in Arabic‐speaking countries. The implications of this paper: Nursing leaders can use the translated version of Cardiac Self‐Efficacy Questionnaire to evaluate cardiac self‐efficacy and to improve self‐management skills of patients with CHD in Arabic‐speaking countries.Measuring the self‐efficacy levels of Arabic speakers using the A‐CSEQ can help nurses applying secondary prevention intervention measures and developing cardiac rehabilitation programmes in Arabic‐speaking countries.The A‐CSEQ can be used in further research in the future, through implementing comparisons between study outcomes in Arabic contexts.
