The current investigation emphasizes on the fluoride adsorption by chemically activated industrial paper waste (PWA) from aqueous medium. Sorption process was modelled and optimized using the techniques viz. response surface methodology (RSM), artificial neural network (ANN), and genetic algorithm (GA). Parametric effects of pH, adsorbate concentration, duration of contact, temperature, and PWA dose on percentage removal were assessed. Structural morphologies of PWA were analysed using BET, SEM, EDX and FTIR. Maximum removal of more than 99% was observed at adsorbate concentration of 12 mg/L, pH 5, temperature 25 °C and PWA dose 0.3 g/L and duration of contact of 18 h. The adsorption process conformed Langmuir isotherm model, and the process is thermodynamically feasible and spontaneous in nature as obtained from thermodynamics study. The PWA is reusable and capable of adsorbing 96.7% of total fluoride even after four cycles of use. Therefore, PWA might be a promising adsorbent for fluoride decontamination of water and can be used in sorption-based water treatment plant under optimised parametric condition to substantiate its large-scale applicability. This paper presents a comprehensive study on the use of DNNs for voice isolation, focusing on speech recognition and speaker identification tasks. The paper describes the quantitative and qualitative dimensions of artificial neural networks (ANN) in India in the global context. The study is based on research publications data (8260) as covered in the Scopus database during 1999-2018. ANN research in India registered 24.52% growth, averaged 11.95 citations per paper, and contributed 9.77% share to the global ANN research. ANN research is skewed as the top 10 countries account for 75.15% of global output. India ranks as the third most productive country in the world. The distribution of research by type of ANN networks reveals that Feed Forward Neural Network type accounted for the highest share (10.18% share), followed by Adaptive Weight Neural Network (5.38% share), Feed Backward Neural Network (2.54% share), etc. ANN research applications across subjects were the largest in medical science and environmental science (11.82% and 10.84% share respectively), followed by materials science, energy, chemical engineering and water resources (from 6.36% to 9.12%), etc. The Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur and the Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee lead the country as the most productive organizations (with 289 and 264 papers). Background: Road accidents are among the most important causes of death and severe personal and financial injuries. Also, its profound social, cultural, and economic effects threaten human societies. This study aimed to estimate the trend of traffic accident victims in Yazd Province, Iran, to predict the number of traffic accident victims in this province. Materials and Methods: Based on traffic casualty statistics referred to forensic medicine in Yazd Province within April 1989 and March 2017 referred to Forensic Medicine of Yazd Province and using an artificial neural network to predict the number of injured for 12 months ending in 2020 has been paid. The neural network used in this study had 12 inputs, one output, and 5 hidden layers. The network predicts the relationship between data after training and learning. The network is considered the MSE benchmark. Results: The number of injured in traffic accidents in Yazd Province in 2020 was equal to 7052 people, with the highest number in December with 832 people and the lowest in June with 414 people. The exact method of use was equal to 92 cases. Conclusion: The trend of traffic accident casualties in Yazd Province in 2020 will be declining. Software development effort and cost estimation (SDECE) is one of the most important tasks in the field of software engineering. A large number of research papers have been published on this topic in the last five decades. Investigating research trends using a systematic literature review when such a large number of research papers are published is a very tedious and time-consuming task. Therefore, in this research paper, we propose a generic automated text mining framework to investigate research trends by analyzing the title, author's keywords, and abstract of the research papers. The proposed framework is used to investigate research trends by analyzing the title, keywords, and abstract of select 1015 research papers published on SDECE in the last five decades. We have identified the most popular SDECE techniques in each decade to understand how SDECE has evolved in the past five decades. It is found that artificial neural network, fuzzy logic, regression, analogy-based approach, and COCOMO methods are the most used techniques for SDECE followed by optimization, use case point, machine learning, and function point analysis. The NASA and ISBSG are the most used dataset for SDECE. The MMRE, MRE, and PRED are the most used accuracy measures for SDECE. Results of the proposed framework are validated by comparing it with the outcome of the previously published review work and we found that the results are consistent. We have also carried out a detailed bibliometric analysis and metareview of the review and survey papers published on SDECE. The unknown nature of the future requires us to question our decisions and seek reliable methods. The artificial neural networks approach, which is one of the methods used to best predict the future and one that is important for decision making has been thought of, particularly in recent years, as a method with a high level of validity in the fields of economy and financial prediction. The Istanbul Stock Exchange (ISE), at which millions of national and international investors operate, is among the developed stock exchanges of the world. The ISE has the attributes of being appropriate for making predictions regarding financial returns, without any sector differentiation, as a whole. In this study, it was aimed to predict monthly stock yields of 14 different paper companies dealing with the ISE (Istanbul Stock Exchange) by using artificial neural network. Four different variables (the gold price, ISE daily trading volume, exchange rate purchase-sale average, and monthly deposit interest rates by utilizing) and 127 months data were used. Results show that the monthly stock yields of the paper sector can be predicted correctly to account for 95% of the variability of data with the artificial neural network model, and the average absolute percentage failure value was 6.85%. Papermaking is an industrial process that is becoming more competitive nowadays. In this process there are numerous techniques and measurements to indicate paper quality. To increase competitiveness a good control of paper quality is needed through paper properties predictions from different process measurements. However, complex physico-chemical processes take place during papermaking, and thus, paper property predictions are not easy to obtain, especially in the wet-end area. In the wet end flocculation takes place, which will determine the floc properties during the formation of the sheet, and therefore, it will influence retention, drainage and formation. These strongly affect the runnability of the machine and the properties of the final product, and thus, using wet-end measurements for the predictions implies advanced data treatment. Artificial neural networks have been used in this article to predict newsprint paper properties from wet-end parameters. Abstract: A new approach of paper defect recognition is proposed. To implement this method, computer is used to acquire paper image and the subtraction algorithm is used to determine if the image contains defect at first. For the image with paper defect, wavelet packet decomposition is applied to extracting the feature vector of the defect. A BP neural network is designed for recognizing the defect type according to the feature vector. This approach provides a unified detection algorithm for different types of paper defects. Background: In a pain drawing (PD), the patient shades or marks painful areas on an illustration of the human body. This simple yet powerful tool captures essential aspects of the subjective pain experience, such as localization, intensity, and distribution of pain, and enables the extraction of meaningful information, such as pain area, widespreadness, and segmental pattern. Starting as a simple pen-on-paper tool, PDs are now sophisticated digital health applications paving the way for many new and exciting basic translational and clinical applications. Objective: Grasping the full potential of digital PDs and laying the groundwork for future medical PD apps requires an understanding of the methodological developments that have shaped our current understanding of uses and design. This review presents methodological milestones in the development of both pen-on-paper and digital PDs, thereby offering insight into future possibilities created by the transition from paper to digital. Methods: We conducted a systematic literature search covering PD acquisition , conception of PDs , PD analysis , and PD visualization. Results: The literature search yielded 435 potentially relevant papers, from which 53 methodological milestones were identified. These milestones include, for example, the grid method to quantify pain area, the pain-frequency maps, and the use of artificial neural networks to facilitate diagnosis. Conclusions: Digital technologies have had a significant influence on the evolution of PDs, whereas their versatility is leading to ever new applications in the field of medical apps and beyond. This paper focuses upon the press section of a paper machine and describes a neural network vibration-based condition monitoring system for providing advance warning of faults in the felts. These are extremely important components of the paper machine as they are responsible for guiding the paper through the press nips. Any deterioration in the felts may result in paper breakage and machine shut-downs with a resulting fall in productivity. The need for tighter control of the manufacturing process is thus the main motivation for this work. The system developed makes use of spectral analysis of the raw vibration signals. This involves the technique of acceleration enveloping for isolating the spectral components that reflect the process defects. Since visual examination of the spectra for detecting subtle changes in the early stages is both difficult and impractical, a peak detection algorithm has been designed. Its purpose is to extract the relevant features from each spectrum. These are then fed into a neural network classifier for discriminating between the fault and the no-fault conditions. The system is demonstrated to be successful for detecting felt deterioration in its early stages when assessed on industrial data. Abstract: Aiming at the problem that paper smoothness cannot be measured on line, a new method for soft measurement of paper smoothness is put forward on the basis of studying paper quantization distribution. A soft measurement system is established, by which, paper quantization noise is processed by time–frequency analysis and non-linear transformation, so that online paper smoothness can be obtained through a Radial Basis Function Neural Networks (RBFNNs). In this paper, an integrated neural-fuzzy process controller was developed to study the coagulation of wastewater treatment in a paper mill. In order to improve the fuzzy neural network performance, the self-learning ability embedded in the fuzzy neural network model was emphasized for improving the rule extraction performance. It proves the fuzzy neural network more effective in modeling the coagulation performance than artificial neural networks (ANN). For comparing between the fuzzy neural controller and PID controller, a coagulation unit in a paper mill wastewater treatment process (PMWTP) was chosen to support the derivation of a fuzzy control rule base. It is shown that, using the fuzzy neural controller, in terms of cost effectiveness, enables us to save almost 25 % of the operating costs during the time when the controller can be applied. The difficulty in predicting the properties and behaviour of paper products produced using heterogeneous raw materials with high percentages of recovered fibres poses restrictions on their efficient and effective use as corrugated packaging materials. This work presents predictive models for the mechanical properties of corrugated base papers (liner and fluting-medium) from fibre and physical property data using multiple linear regression and artificial neural networks. The most significant results were obtained for the prediction of the tensile strength of liners in the cross direction from the origin (wood type, pulp method) of the fibres using linear regression, and the prediction of the compressive strength of fluting-medium in the longitudinal (machine) direction, according to the short-span test, using a neural network with one hidden layer with 6 neurons, with coefficients of determination at 95.14% and 99.28%, respectively. Digitalization brings challenges and new opportunities to the development of landscape gardening, "smart gardening," which is a product of landscape gardening in response to the development of the digital era. Based on the multimodal intelligent computing method and deep neural network machine learning algorithm, this paper adopts "digital landscape design logic" to analyze and research smart gardens and digital design. The digital landscape design process and methods are discussed based on design logic, design basis, environment analysis, and results presentation, and the greenery maintenance scheduling system is constructed. Network compression coding technology is a research hotspot in the field of digital steganography and image synthesis. How to improve image quality while achieving short compression time is a problem currently faced. Based on the improved wavelet neural network theory, this paper constructs a digital steganography and image synthesis model. The model first tracks the contour of the digit to be recognized, then equalizes and resamples the contour to make it translation-invariant and scaling-invariant, and then uses multi-wavelet neural network clusters to stretch the contour shell to obtain orders of magnitude multi-resolution and its average, and finally, these shell coefficients are fed into a feedforward neural network cluster to identify this handwritten digit, solving the problem of multi-resolution decomposition of contour shells while having a high sampling rate. In the simulation process, the classification model that a single pixel is a text/non-text pixel is trained on the original gray value of the gray pixel and its neighboring pixels, and the classified text pixels are connected to a text area through an adaptive MeanShift method. The experimental results show that it is feasible to use multi-wavelet features for handwritten digit recognition. The model combines the neural network and the genetic algorithm, making full use of the advantages of both, so that the new algorithm has the learning ability and robustness of the neural network. The compression ratio after compression by ordinary wavelet coding, PSNR, MSE, and compression time are 8.4, 25 dB, 210, and 7 s, respectively. The values are 11.7, 24 dB, 207, and 11 s, respectively. At the same time, the peak signal-to-noise ratio is higher and the mean square error is lower, that is, the compression quality is better, and the accuracy of digital steganography and image synthesis is effectively improved. Introduction: Many studies show that words learned early in life are read more easily than the ones learned later and are less vulnerable to brain damage. Methods: the first part of the current study, 25 primary school students in the 5th grade read the word groups learned initially during a previous grade. The words used in the experiments were 327 Farsi monosyllable words matched on the other factors involved in Farsi word naming. Results: The analysis of covariance (the consistency and frequency as covariates) showed that words learned in earlier grades were read more easily than the ones learned later, showing the known effect of the Age of Acquisition (AoA). In the second part of the study, it was tried to simulate AoA in word naming by a neural network model developed earlier based on connectionist approach. While previous studies used random patterns, in the current study words from primary school books were used. Likewise, words learned early by the model were read better than words learned later. However, there was a failure in replicating previous simulation of AoA in English reading by an algorithm called Quick prop for Farsi. In addition, the model was lesioned by removing some hidden units to see its effect on word reading. As a result, words learned earlier were less vulnerable to damage compared with the ones learned later. Conclusion: The findings showed that words learned earlier, compared to those learned later, were read better and were less vulnerable to damage. This article introduces a versatile functional form for Generalized Linear Models (GLMs) through a simple, yet effective, transformation of the current framework. The models are applied through a new hierarchical bayesian estimation procedure for logistic regression to highly-cited papers in the Management Information Systems (MIS) field. The results are uniformly better, in regards to model fit and inference for in-sample and out-of-sample data, for simulation studies and real-world data applications, requiring very little time to convergence to true population parameters. In simulation studies, I show that the method contains the true parameters nearly three times as often as widely used existing GLMs, and does so while having confidence intervals that are 54.50% smaller, while requiring around two-thirds the number of MCMC iterations as existing bayesian methods. In Scientometric applications the methodology is shown to be highly robust with predictive/classification accuracy, either equaling or exceeding existing methods for identifying highly-cited articles including Artificial Neural Networks (ANN). Thus, the method is shown to be robust to the amount of asymmetry (or symmetry) of the probability of success (or failure) and robust to unbalanced samples and varying Data Generating Processes. Further, the methodology is equivalent to current methods if the data support them and is therefore complementary to existing methods, without loss of interpretability of model parameters. For the MIS field it finds that Popularity Parameter (PP) of an article Keywords can predict whether a paper will be highly-cited (top 25% of highly-cited articles) between two to three years after publication and beyond. Furthermore, given the small number of iterations needed for convergence, the methodology can also be used as a baseline method in Big Data (BD) settings for both Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) contexts as well. Although flexible neural networks (FNNs) have been used more successfully than classical neural networks (CNNs) in many industrial applications, nothing is rigorously known about their properties. In fact they are not even well known to the systems and control community. In the first part of this paper, existing structures of and results on FNNs are surveyed. In the second part FNNs are examined in a theoretical framework. As a result, theoretical evidence is given for the superiority of FNNs over CNNs and further properties of the former are developed. More precisely, several fundamental properties of feedforward and recurrent FNNs are established. This includes the universal approximation capability, minimality, controllability, observability, and identifiability. In the broad sense, the results of this paper help that general use of FNNs in systems and control theory and applications be based on firm theoretical foundations. For the past few years, sweat analysis for health monitoring has attracted increasing attention benefiting from wearable technology. In related research, the sensitive detection of uric acid (UA) in sweat with complex composition based on surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) for the diagnosis of gout is still a significant challenge. Herein, we report a visualized and intelligent wearable sweat platform for SERS detection of UA in sweat. In this wearable platform, the spiral channel consisted of colorimetric paper with Ag nanowires (AgNWs) that could capture sweat for SERS measurement. With the help of photos from a smartphone, the pH value and volume of sweat could be quantified intelligently based on the image recognition technique. To diagnose gout, SERS spectra of human sweat with UA are collected in this wearable intelligent platform and analyzed by artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms. The results indicate that the artificial neural network (ANN) algorithm exhibits good identification of gout with high accuracy at 97%. Our work demonstrates that SERS-AI in a wearable intelligent sweat platform could be a feasible strategy for diagnosis of gout, which expands research on sweat analysis for comfortable and noninvasive health monitoring. Due to the large intra-class differences between the same categories and the scale imbalance between different categories in the remote sensing image dataset, the semantic segmentation task presents the problem of small-scale object information loss, the imbalance between foreground and background, and simultaneously the background dominates, which seriously affects the performance of the network model. To solve the above problems, this paper proposes an efficient bilateral branch depth neural network model based on the U-Net depth neural network, named BBU-Net. Firstly, one branch of the network learns the distribution characteristics of the original data, and the other focuses on difficult samples. Then the two branches improve the representation and classification ability of the neural network by accumulating learning strategies. Finally, considering the geometric diversity of remote sensing images, this paper adopts test time augmentation and reflection padding strategies and proposes a balanced weighted loss function named CombineLoss to alleviate the imbalance in the training process. The depth neural network proposed in this paper was first tested on the Inria Aerial Image Labeling Dataset, and 87.53% of mean intersection over union and 97.4% of mean pixel accuracy were obtained, respectively. At the same time, to verify the model's complexity, the model proposed in this paper is compared with the neural network based on integrated learning. The comparison results show that the spatial complexity of the network proposed in this paper is much lower than the neural network obtained by integrated learning, and the parameters are also much smaller than the neural network based on integrated learning. Then use the satellite building dataset I in the WHU Building Dataset and mainstream semantic segmentation methods for multiple groups of comparative experiments. The experimental results show that the method proposed in this paper can effectively extract the semantic information of remote sensing images, significantly improve the imbalance of remote sensing image data, improve the performance of the network model, and achieve a good semantic segmentation effect, which fully proves the effectiveness of this method. Wavelet neural networks (WNNs) were used to investigate the influence of operational variables in the soda-ethanol pulping of oil palm fronds (viz. NaOH concentration (10-30%), ethanol concentration (15-75%), cooking temperature (150-190 ºC), and time (60-180 min)) on the resulting pulp and paper properties (viz. screened yield, kappa number, tensile index, and tear index). Performance assessments demonstrated the predictive capability of WNNs, in that the experimental results of the dependent variables with error less than 6% were reproduced, while satisfactory R-squared values were obtained. Genomic signal processing is a development field in medicine and agriculture. Numerous research areas are processing the genomics of living organism such as animals and particularly human beings. In this paper, the microarray data set for the biological organism which includes a large number of gene data has taken for the processing. The microarray data are a powerful technology practised in the research field for validating the gene discovery and diagnosis of diseases. The data are processed to a large number with plenty of genes. The proposed Kalman filter-based fuzzy c-means cluster and artificial neural network (KF-FANN) enhance the genomic signal processing to the optimal level. The Kalman filter proposed in this paper to remove the noise and smoothen the data for signal processing. An ideal clustering process is carried out for the classification of the microarray data. The fuzzy c-means clustering was proposed in this paper for grouping the microarray after removing the noise. The artificial neural network is a biologically inspired model proposed in this work for the classification of microarray data to point out the normal and abnormal genes in the microarray data. The proposed work has compared with existing techniques such as c-means, k-means clustering, and multi-SVM, respectively. The proposed method is carried out in the MATLAB platform, and results are evaluated in terms of Calinski–Harabasz index, separation index, Xie and Beni's index, partition index, accuracy, precision, recall, and F-score.
