Abstract

Researchers at the University of Virginia have developed a computer vision software that can digitize handwritten data from paper anesthesia charts in low-middle income countries. The software uses deep neural networks to identify and assign values to handwritten blood pressure symbols and physiological data. The researchers achieved high levels of accuracy, with the software digitizing checkbox data with over 99% accuracy and blood pressure data with a mean average error of 1.0 and 1.36 mmHg for systolic and diastolic blood pressure respectively. This technology provides improved access to digital data for healthcare practitioners in low-middle income countries. [Extracted from the article]
