This paper conducted a comparative analysis of the conference publications published by Chinese scholars from 2006 to 2019. The main results are as follows. First, the conference papers are unevenly distributed among the 31 provincial administrative regions. The annual number of conference papers published by scholars from different regions fluctuated during the study period. Second, there are different disciplinary distributions of China Proceedings of Conferences Full‐text Database (CPCD) papers and Conference Proceedings Citation Index (CPCI) papers, and the CPCI publications have a relatively centralized disciplinary distribution. Third, it is noteworthy that there are more CPCD papers than CPCI papers. With the introduction of the new science and technology evaluation standards of the Ministry of Science and Technology, there should be more conference papers in the future. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

One of the most dramatic changes in global publishing in the last decade has been the emergence of China. China now has more researchers than the United States, outspends the United States and European Union in research and publishes more scientific papers each year than any other nation in the world. The quality of these papers is also increasing, with more appearing in top‐ranked journals and gaining more citations overall. Despite this success, China has gained an unenviable reputation for research misconduct and geopolitical issues threaten its continuation. Given the impact of China's growing presence on editors, publishers and non‐Chinese authors seeking to publish in the same journals, it is important to understand the reasons, directions and outcomes of these changes, their effect on Chinese scholars and local Chinese journals, and where they might be leading. In this review paper I explore the rise of Chinese scholarship, its influence on global publishing and on Chinese scholars, and how the Chinese government is responding to its new role in global academic publishing. Little is known in the international academic community about Chinese‐language research on water management. To remedy this deficit, this paper reviews current mainland Chinese understandings of the role of large‐scale water infrastructures as tools of water resources management. We reviewed 461 papers published in mainland Chinese journals by Chinese scholars. This review suggests that the dominant approach to water management reflects the confines of government priorities—large‐scale, concrete‐heavy, infrastructure‐based means of moving water around the country so as to meet demands and stimulate economic growth. Suppression of critical voices means that infrastructure is generally rendered apolitical: the critiques are about practical issues, such as technological, managerial, or administrative problems. There are exceptions to this characterization that adopt more critical frames; however, they reflect on water management elsewhere or in the past rather than on contemporary China. While these more critical papers are interesting and important contributions to our understanding of the politics of hydraulic infrastructures, the literature as a whole says little about the politics of infrastructure in China now. In effect, much of the literature in Chinese on water management in China simply acts as an arm of a machine—a network of corporations, universities, international institutions, and arms of the government, together tasked with identifying and framing what are water management issues, formulating standardized procedures for tackling those issues, and then constructing solutions to them. Nationalism is often associated with xenophobia and isolationism in academic literature. The negative image of nationalism has been further strengthened by the electoral success of far‐right political figures across the world. However, treating all nationalism as a uniformly negative phenomenon risks over‐simplification, as nationalism might manifest differently given different social context and rhetorical resources available. Taking Hong Kong as a case, this paper theorises Hong Kong as a stateless nation and examines the alleged negative association of nationalism. It moves beyond the traditional 'Hong Kong vis‐a‐vis China' framework and explores the relationship between Hong Kong nationalists and non‐Chinese international actors. Drawing on data from major Hong Kong political parties' Facebook page, this paper shows that Hong Kong nationalism exhibits a high level of internationalism in both inward and outward dimensions, theorised, respectively, as the willingness to accept foreign influence and to invite international cooperation, and therefore offers a nuanced understanding about the relationship between nationalism, xenophobia and isolationism. This paper investigates the connections between harmonious cultural values, pro‐environmental self‐identity and consumers' sustainable consumption behaviours spanning acquisition, usage and disposal. It evaluates the relevance of Chinese cultural values that purport harmony between humans, nature and society that is, man‐nature orientation, and horizontal/vertical dimensions of individualism collectivism. The results from the online survey with 503 urbanised Chinese reveals these values disparately influence this consumption. Despite the limited direct behavioural effect of these harmonious values, pro‐environmental self‐identity plays an important role in mediating their indirect effects on the five behaviours. This paper therefore extends theorisation of the values‐identity‐behaviour relationship from a cultural‐values orientation perspective. Immigrant‐run businesses are playing an increasingly important role in the Polish economy. This paper focuses on the patterns of entrepreneurship and ethnic economy employment among Chinese and Vietnamese immigrants residing in the Warsaw metropolitan area (WMA). It uses microdata from a survey of Vietnamese and Chinese residents of the WMA and employs logistic regression analysis in order to assess the factors that affect the odds of entrepreneurship and ethnic economy employment among them. Subsequently, the paper analyses the impact of entrepreneurship and ethnic economy employment on the earnings of Vietnamese and Chinese citizens living in the WMA. Empirical analysis demonstrates that Vietnamese and Chinese immigrants are not pushed to become entrepreneurs by an opportunity structure that blocks alternative options and enjoy significantly higher incomes than native‐born Polish citizens. The ethnic economy becomes a temporary adjustment mechanism for newly arrived migrants but is not lucrative for longer‐term residents of these two origins. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Although considerable research has explored consumer ethnocentrism and conspicuous consumption effects independently, a meaningful quantitative analysis of the interaction of such effects on consumer perception is yet to be undertaken. This study aims to provide insight into these effects by examining the impacts of consumer ethnocentrism and consumption setting on foreign Country‐of‐Origin (COO) effects in a Chinese consumer wine market context. A total of 324 wine consumers in mainland China participated in a 3 (COO: France vs. Australia vs. China) × 2 (Consumption Setting: Public vs. Private) × continuous (Chinese consumer ethnocentrism) between‐subject, factorial design experiment. The study finds that Chinese consumers favor French red wine when compared with its Australian and Chinese counterparts but shows that Australian wines still benefit through smaller, indirect COO effects. Additionally, French COO effects are mediated by the utilitarian and hedonic meanings of red wine and moderated by consumer trait ethnocentrism and the consumption setting. This paper contributes to the understanding of culturally informed self‐regulation of consumer behaviors and how Chinese consumer ethnocentrism interacts with consumption settings to alter a consumer's perception of foreign goods. Annually, around 10 million Chinese tourists, constituting almost a quarter of Thailand's total foreign visitors (before COVID‐19), have started to make a strong imprint on Thailand's tourist landscape. At the same time, a new wave of Chinese migrants to Thailand are seeking business and work opportunities. This paper focuses on these new encounters between local Thais and the incoming mainland Chinese in terms of how cultural boundaries are created, contested and renegotiated, specifically within the context of Thailand's long history of Chinese migration, which dates back several generations. The paper investigates the phenomenon of 're‐Sinicization' in Thailand, and its contested nature within the broader Thai political and cultural milieu. It draws upon recent controversies regarding online battles between Thai and Chinese netizens to argue that the controversies are indicative of the unease from the increasing Chinese presence within Thai society and the increasing embroilment of Thailand within the political contestation of the wider Sinosphere. Despite heightened scholarly attention paid to transnational immigrant families since the 1990s, a systematic analysis framework explaining the formation of these family experiences has been absent. Building on a 3‐year qualitative research project (2017–2020) investigating the multigenerational dynamics of new Chinese immigrant families from the People's Republic of China living in New Zealand, through exploring the formation of the seasonal parents/grandparents phenomenon within those families, this paper introduces an analysis framework to systematically interrogate the factors shaping diverse transnational family experiences. The proposed analysis framework builds upon an inclusive paradigm, which allows the future investigation of transnational family experience to trace multilevel impact factors behind its formation (i.e., microlevel family dynamics, mesolevel living environment and macrolevel institutional foundations). Additionally, it also highlights the interactivity of those diverse impact factors within and across different levels, as well as the spatial and temporal dimensions of transnational family lives. The retranslations of Andersen's fairy tales in the twentieth century have promoted the canonization of Andersen in the modern Chinese literary system. Today, Chinese readers of different ages are fascinated by Andersen's works and the images created by him. However, the literary and cultural significance of Andersen to China lies in his influence. In this paper, the authors will first review the history of translating Andersen's fairy tales in China and then analyze some cases from Chinese literature and culture within the theoretical framework of intertextuality, in an attempt to specify the influence of Andersen on modern Chinese literature and culture. It is argued that Andersen's fairy tales have been cross‐culturally woven into Chinese children's as well as adult literature when the intertextual devices are applied by writers in their own literary creations; meanwhile the fictional elements of the tales are intertextually merged, as symbols, into other forms of cultural products where they are involved in a critical construction of modern Chinese culture. This paper investigates household behavioral response to disruptions in the food supply chain, with a focus on the role for risk and its effects on household food stocks and food waste. We present an empirical analysis based on data from Chinese consumers over multiple periods in 2019 and during the COVID‐19 crisis of 2020. We investigate how household behavior changed during the COVID‐19 crisis, documenting both food stockpiling and increased food waste. The econometric analysis relies on a control function approach to handle endogeneity. We decompose the effects of increased risk on waste during the crisis into two components: the direct effect reflecting household decisions conditional on food stock; and the indirect effect associated with induced adjustments in food stock. Both effects on food waste are found to be positive, reflecting difficulties households have in managing large food stocks. We present evidence that one percentage point increase in household stocks during a period of supply disruption contributed to a 0.055–0.297 percentage point increase in food waste across food categories. The present study examined the influence of lay elitism on preference and choice inconsistency in consumer choices across cultures. Four studies were conducted to understand this phenomenon. In Study 1, we showed that Mainland Chinese high in the belief in lay elitism displays more preference and choice inconsistency across product categories. In Study 2, we found the reverse effect for Caucasian Americans. In Study 3, Mainland Chinese belief in lay elitism is associated with their preference and choice inconsistency over geometric patterns and, at the same time, increased the consistency between their choice and the anticipated elites' choice of these geometric patterns. Lastly, Study 4 showed that in a cross‐cultural study, Mainland Chinese participants' endorsement of lay elitism is associated with a higher level of preference and choice inconsistency, but the reverse pattern is observed for Caucasian Americans. Furthermore, cultural values (i.e., individualism and collectivism) fail to explain the differences in preference and choice consistency across cultures. Objective: The goal of the paper is to discover the dynamic features of rural men's age at first marriage, and to explore impacts of marriage expenses on men's age at first marriage in rural China amid a rapid urbanization and sociodemographic transition. Background: Given the rapid urbanization and sociodemographic transition, changes in rural men's marriage timing and its influencing mechanism in China are emerging but remain under examined. Method: The data were collected by the New Urbanization and Sustainable Development research group from Xi'an Jiaotong University in 2018 (n = 1,391). Regression models were used to explore the influence of men's marriage expenses and regional economic factors on their age at first marriage. Results: The relationship between squared total marriage expenses of rural migrant men and their age at first marriage shows as a U‐shaped curve. Conjugal matching, family, premarital migration, and regional economy play important roles for rural men entering their first marriages. Conclusion: Compared with the age‐appropriate married men, the early and late married men tend to have higher marriage expenses. Men with more economic resources are capable of seizing high‐qualified women at a younger age, whereas men with less economic resources need to pay more for their first marriage at an older age. Fathers' lower social class and regional economy significantly delay men's age at first marriage. Implications: This study reveals marriage expense is another important factor influencing men's first marriage entry in rural China and provides a clue to solve difficulties of rural men getting married, especially in societies with ongoing rapid urbanization and sociodemographic transition. The human experience of survival from a plague is about distinguishing the sick from the healthy as quickly as possible, establishing a barrier to stop the infection, and protecting healthy people. Nevertheless, the various quarantine rules and the acceptance and compliance of the population are a kind of battle between policy implementers and the public. This paper tries to understand how Chinese cultural attitudes (Henderson, 1984) unconsciously influence the Chinese people to be most cooperative with the strict containment and quarantine measures to confront the COVID‐19 pandemic. This article begins with the Chinese characters, exemplified by the four characters of disease and plague, to discuss how the pictograph nature and spatial structural way profoundly shaped the cultural mind. Then, through plague‐related Chinese legends, stories and folklore, the paper sets out the Chinese cultural attitudes which are also manifested in the analogical associations between disease, plague and seasons, the balance of the five elements of the universe and ghosts, gods and the government bureaucrats in the Kingdom of the Heaven. All of these approaches are well in line with Jung's method of associative amplification as a way to locate the archetypal wisdom that assures survival. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Renqing is a culturally specific Chinese notion of the informal norms in society that are significantly different from the formal rules. This paper focuses on employees' perception of renqing and of the rules in Chinese workplaces. Specifically, we define renqing (or rules) perception as the extent to which employees perceive that people's actions in their organizations follow renqing norms (or formal rules). Conceptually and empirically, we find that both renqing perception and rules perception are two‐dimensional constructs. Drawing on social information processing theory, we propose the mediating mechanisms underlying organizational culture, employees' perceptions of renqing and of rules, and their job satisfaction. Specifically, we hypothesize that clan culture will positively relate to renqing perception, while hierarchy culture will have a positive relation to rules perception; both will lead to higher job satisfaction. Results from two‐wave surveys of 325 Chinese employees provide largely consistent support for our hypotheses. Theoretical and practical implications are discussed. Employees' social media use in the workplace has become a common phenomenon. Thriving at work is a positive psychological state, and conventional wisdom and preliminary research on thriving at work indicate the benefits of thriving for both employees and organizations. However, few studies have linked social media use and employees' sense of thriving. Based on the socially embedded model of thriving at work, this paper explores the relationship between social media use and thriving at work, as well as the mediating role of knowledge sharing and the moderating role of locus of control. Mplus is used to analyze the data of 397 Chinese employees collected at two time points; the results show a significant positive impact of social‐related social media use on thriving at work. However, work‐related social media use was found to have no effect on thriving at work, though knowledge sharing mediates the relationship between social media use and thriving at work. The studies cover a range of topics, including the impact of trauma reporting on journalists, stigma and self-stigma of mental illness in Turkey, the relationship between depression severity and perceived cognitive impairment, the construct validity of a depression scale in Chinese adolescents, the interaction between a specific gene and peer rejection in predicting depression among Chinese adolescents, a clinical psychoinformatics approach to detect signs of depression recurrence, the prevalence of depression, anxiety, and stress among Filipino university students, the influencing factors of depression among 11th grade students in China, the effectiveness of a Mindful Self-Compassion program on college students with depression, and the effectiveness of a self-help paper-based Acceptance and Commitment Therapy intervention in reducing the risk of depression. China's per capita dairy consumption has been far below the intake level recommended by the World Health Organization. Since the dairy industry is a significant contributor to carbon emissions, the recently launched "Double‐Carbon" goals in China may also suppress the supply of dairy products, further reducing Chinese residents' dairy intake. While the notion of sustainable (i.e., nutritious and environmentally friendly) food consumption has recently gained popularity in the policy arena, whether Chinese milk consumers are ready to embrace this notion and what specific measures can effectively promote sustainable milk consumption in China remain unclear. On the basis of a discrete choice experiment, this paper examines how information nudges (i.e., randomly provided messages with different contents and details) may steer Chinese consumers into choosing liquid milk products with attributes that are more nutritious and environmentally friendly. Our analysis, involving 839 consumers randomly selected from Beijing, China, shows that consumers value carbon labels the most, followed by nutrition claims, sustainable production claims, and energy conservation certificates. Meanwhile, nutrition information induces consumers to place higher values on nutrition claims; in contrast, environmental information raises consumers' willingness to choose environmental sustainability‐related attributes. Background: Venous thromboembolism (VTE) is one of the primary causes of maternal death. Although many studies have reported maternal VTE, no study has estimated the incidence of it in China. Objectives: The aim of this work was to estimate the incidence of maternal VTE in China and to compare the risk factors for it. Search strategy: The authors searched eight platforms and databases including PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane Library from inception to April 2022, with the search terms "venous thromboembolism" AND "puerperium (pregnancy)" AND "incidence" AND "China." Selection criteria: Studies provide data to calculate the incidence of maternal VTE among Chinese patients. Data collection and analysis: The authors made a standardized table to collect data and calculated the incidence and 95% confidence intervals (CIs), founding source of heterogeneity by subgroup analysis and meta‐regression and judging publication bias by funnel plot and Egger test. Main results: The included 53 papers with a total sample size of 3 813 871 patients had 2539 cases of VTE, and the incidence of maternal VTE in China was 0.13% (95% CI, 0.11–0.16; P < 0.001). Conclusions: The trend in the incidence of maternal VTE in China is stable. Cesarean section and advanced age are associated with a higher incidence of VTE. Using China's milk scandal as a natural experiment, this paper explores whether the countries of origin and export destinations have the same responses to the original country's food scandal. Our difference‐in‐difference estimation shows that the outbreak of China's milk scandal had asymmetric impacts on China's total imports (increased by 23.4%) and exports (sharply dropped by 65.8%). The results further show that China's milk scandal contributed to import increases from European and Oceanian countries. Moreover, China's milk scandal worsened exports, mainly those going to neighbouring Asian regions but increased exports to Oceania. A product quality index is constructed to explain this finding. Intuitively, consumers' perceived quality of Chinese products declined, and they tended to consume products from other countries. The lower the product quality was with those in China, the lower the perceived quality and safety, thereby affecting demand. During the scandal, Chinese consumers tended to buy high‐quality dairy products from Europe and Oceania rather than the perceived unreliable dairy products produced by China or neighbouring countries. Purpose: Initial studies have suggested that multiple segment (MS) spectacle lenses can reduce the progression rate of childhood myopia and axial eye growth. This paper aimed to compare the effectiveness of two different available designs of MS lens and to explore the nature of their control effect. Method: Published data from the only two clinical trials in which changes in mean spherical equivalent refraction (SER) and axial length (AL) for matched groups of myopic children wearing either MS or single‐vision (SV) spectacle corrections, recorded over a period of at least 2 years, were further analysed and compared. Both trials involved Chinese children of similar ages and visual characteristics, but the trials were located in different cities. The two MS lenses examined were MiyoSmart or DIMS (Hoya) and Stellest (Essilor). Results: Absolute changes in SER and AL differed over time during the two trials. However, if the results were expressed in terms of efficacy over successive 6‐month periods, then the two MS lenses produced broadly similar results (initial efficacy for the control of myopia progression of about 60%–80%, declining over 2 years to about 35%–55%). Control appears to be absolute rather than proportional. Discussion: Myopia control may be due to either the additional myopic defocus induced by the MS lenses (i.e., asymmetry of the through‐focus image changes about the distance focus) or to the general reduction in image contrast that the lenslets create in the peripheral field. Conclusion: Multiple segment spectacle lenses offer a valuable new approach to the control of myopia progression in children. This study focuses on the ageing experiences of older Chinese immigrants in Australia. The life course perspective provides a framework to investigate the main aspects relating to a sense of home and to analyse how family, relational, and societal factors influence older Chinese immigrants' construction of a sense of home in a transnational context. This paper is based on qualitative data from 30 in‐depth interviews with older Chinese immigrants living on the Gold Coast, Australia. This study reveals that family relationships, independence, and social interactions contribute to constructing a sense of home among older Chinese immigrants. Findings elucidate the interrelations between personal adaptive actions and mindsets, Chinese organisations, and social policies in the life experiences of older Chinese immigrants in Australia. This study suggests that policymakers need to be more sensitive to the significance of culture; it also highlights the need to further support existing cultural services that contribute to developing a sense of home for older Chinese immigrants. Samuel Bowles and Herbert Gintis's Schooling in Capitalist America, a classic book in the field of education, has become more influential in the last twenty years than it was during the first several years following its publication. Interestingly, however, there are some widespread misconceptions about the book. In this paper, Jianguo Zhang investigates four of the primary critiques of Schooling in Capitalist America and then offers a critical defense of the book. He argues further that for Chinese scholars in education, this book is not only a classic, but it is also an outstanding model for how to apply Marxism to the field of education. It is particularly significant in the context of recent calls in China for a return to class analysis in the social sciences. On a worldwide scale, Schooling depicts the strong link between Karl Marx and education, which may benefit critical analysis of Marx's legacy to the field of education. Aims/Introduction: In this paper, we focused on exploring the diagnostic and predictive clinical utility of ankle‐brachial index (ABI) in combination with feet electrochemical skin conductance (FESC) for peripheral artery disease (PAD) in Chinese patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Materials and Methods: Overall, 183 Chinese T2DM patients were enrolled in this study. The patients were classified into three groups: Group 1 comprised of uncomplicated type 2 diabetics (n = 36), Group 2 consisted of patients with diabetic peripheral neuropathy (n = 103) whereas Group 3 patients displayed peripheral artery disease (n = 44). All patients underwent Sudoscan test using a Sudoscan (Paris, France) and ABI assessment. Results: Multivariate logistic regression models revealed that FESC was an independent risk factor of developing PAD in patients with type 2 diabetes. The AUC for diagnostic, positive predictive and negative predictive value of ABI in combination with FESC for PAD were 0.907, 0.733 and 0.920, respectively. The specificity and sensitivity of ABI in combination with FESC for PAD were 0.914 and 0.750, respectively. While negative moods (e.g., anxiety and depression) deriving from environmental problems have become a common public concern, little is known about how consumers' negative mood states affect their green purchase intentions, especially when consumers hold ambivalent attitudes toward buying green products. This paper addresses these issues through four studies of Chinese consumers. Our findings demonstrate that highly ambivalent attitudes toward green products decrease green purchase intentions (Study 1). This negative effect is weakened when consumers are in a more (as opposed to less) anxious mood (Studies 2 and 3) but strengthened when consumers are in a more (as opposed to less) depressed mood (Study 4). Both effects are more prominent among low‐ambivalence consumers than high‐ambivalence consumers. This study explores the recent features of China's economic coercion against Taiwan by offering an up‐to‐date and in‐depth analysis of China's targeted sanctions on Taishang in Tsai Ing‐wen's first term. The paper elaborates on China's specific reasons and means for imposing informal targeted sanctions, as well as their newly observed features in comparison with the past. Heavy dependence on the Chinese economy by certain enterprises of the island has made them vulnerable to sanction targeting. Compared to the past, nationalist boycotts by Chinese consumers and online activities have had a greater influence as part of China's informal targeted sanctions. Beijing's demands for supporting the "one China" policy and the "1992 Consensus" have also become more obvious. These findings suggest that the impetus for developing the cross‐Strait economic exchanges has become more susceptible to the effects of non‐economic factors. Although Beijing's sanctions on Taishang have not yet changed Taipei's policy, they cannot be said to be ineffective. Through the tactics, Beijing definitely sends clear signals of what it wants as it advances their strategy on cross‐Strait relations to the outside world. Through examining queer men's labeling practices, this paper illuminates the competing system of constructing and communicating queer identities in China. My research demonstrates that, in addition to relying on the term tongzhi, Chinese queer men have deployed three labeling tactics to make sense of distinct male homosexualities, using a wide range of slang terms. I argue that these tactics reveal the internal division and hierarchization on the basis of generation, class, self‐acceptance, and affective presentation, among other distinctions. Queer men deploy certain labels to draw symbolic boundaries of separation from other queer men and to construct ideal or superior sexual selfhood. Examining the labeling practices of queer men helps us better understand how queer communities both resist external categorization and create internal marginalization. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Our previous study reckons that the impact of the rs1801133 variant of 5,10‐methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) on coronary artery disease (CAD) is possibly mediated by cardiometabolic disorder. This study is performed to verify this hypothesis. Four hundred and thirty CAD patients and 216 CAD‐free individuals were enrolled in this case–control study. The rs1801133 variant was genotyped by PCR‐RFLP. Severity of coronary lesions was evaluated by number of stenotic coronary vessels and extent of coronary stenosis. The rs1801133 T allele significantly increased homocysteine levels in patients with CAD and CAD‐free individuals. Individuals with the T allele of rs1801133 had an increased risk of developing CAD. In contrast, individuals with the TT genotype of rs1801133 were at high risk of multiple vessel lesions. The carriers of CT genotype had higher levels of systolic blood pressure (SBP), low‐density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL‐C), and high‐sensitivity C‐reactive protein (hs‐CRP), and lower levels of apolipoprotein A1 (APOA1) than those with CC genotype in male patients with CAD. The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve and precision‐recall (PR) curve indicated that hyperhomocysteinemia was sensitive to predict the severity of CAD. Multivariate logistic regression revealed that homocysteine, rs1801133, age, smoking, weight, body mass index (BMI), lipoprotein(a) [Lp(a)], and hs‐CRP were independent risk factors for CAD. The increased risk of CAD and severity of coronary lesions associated with rs1801133 in the Chinese Han population were attributed, at least partly, to high homocysteine levels. Background: Vulvovaginal atrophy (VVA) includes a wide range of conditions affecting the reproductive and urinary systems, often requiring careful evaluation and management for optimal health. Aims: This study aims to evaluate the symptom management effects of a real time temperature‐monitored non‐ablative RF device for the treatment of postmenopausal Chinese women with VVA symptoms. Methods: This pilot study involved 24 postmenopausal Chinese women with one or more VVA symptoms, who wished to remain sexually active. VHIS, VAS, and FSFI were used to track and evaluate various aspects of the patient's condition. Analyses were conducted at the end of the study to verify the statistical significance of the treatment's results. Results: All patients reported substantial, statistically significant, improvements on every VVA symptom tracked. Approximately 80% of the patients reported total symptom reversal at 12‐week post‐treatment follow‐up. Conclusion: This pilot study demonstrated that non‐ablative, monopolar RF technology equipped with real time temperature monitoring is feasible and safe in the treatment of postmenopausal women with VVA symptoms, and efficacious at up to 12 weeks post‐treatment. Background: The assessment of skin aging through skin measurements faces limitations, making perceived age evaluation a more valuable and direct tool for assessing skin aging. Given that the aging process markedly affects the appearance of the eye contour, characterizing the eye region could be beneficial for perceived age assessment. This study aimed to analyze age‐correlated changes in the eye contour within the Chinese Han female population and to develop, validate, and apply a multiple linear regression model for predicting perceived age. Materials and methods: A naïve panel of 107 Chinese women assessed the perceived ages of 212 Chinese Han women. Instrumental analysis evaluated periorbital parameters, including palpebral fissure width (PFW), palpebral fissure height (PFH), acclivity of palpebral fissure (AX), angle of inner canthal (AEN), and angle of outer canthal (AEX). These parameters were used to construct a multiple linear regression model for predicting the perceived ages of Chinese Han women. A combined treatment using Fotona 4D and an anti‐aging eye cream, formulated with plant extracts, peptides, and antioxidants, was conducted to verify the cream's anti‐aging efficacy and safety. This eye cream was then tested in a large‐scale clinical trial involving 101 participants. The prediction model was employed in this trial to assess the perceived ages of the women after an 8‐week application of the eye cream. Results: All parameters were observed to decrease with age. An intergroup comparison indicated that eyelid aging in Chinese Han women accelerates beyond the age of 50. Consequently, a linear regression model was constructed and validated, with the perceived age being calculated as 183.159 ‐ 1.078 * AEN ‐ 4.487 * PFW + 6.061 * PFH ‐ 1.003 * AX ‐ 0.328 * AEX. The anti‐aging efficacy and safety of the eye cream were confirmed through combined treatment with Fotona 4D, showing improvements in wrinkles, elasticity, and dark circles under the eyes. In a large‐scale clinical evaluation using this eye cream, a perceived age prediction model was applied, suggesting that 8 weeks of use made participants appear 2.25 years younger. Conclusion: Our study developed and validated a multiple linear regression model to predict the perceived age of Chinese Han women. This model was successfully utilized in a large‐scale clinical evaluation of anti‐aging eye cream, revealing that 8 weeks of usage made participants appear 2.25 years younger. This method effectively bridges the gap between clinical research and consumer perceptions, explores the complex factors influencing perceived age, and aims to improve anti‐aging formulations. Background: Photo‐ageing is a form of skin ageing which affects the entire face. A photo‐aged skin has a diverse variety of wrinkles and dyspigmentation all over the face. Here, we discuss photo‐ageing on the Chinese skin evaluated using a photo‐numeric scale developed and validated on Caucasian skin (i.e., Caucasian scale) and evaluated using a photo‐numeric scale developed and validated on Korean skin (i.e., Korean scale). The Korean scale can be subdivided into two scales that separately address the wrinkling and dyspigmentation constituents of photo‐ageing. Aim: As there are currently no photo‐ageing scales for Chinese skin, the main objective of this study is to adapt existing photo‐ageing photo‐numeric scales for use on ethnic Chinese skin. Method: Three trained assessors studied facial photo‐ageing on 1,081 ethnic Chinese young adults from the Singapore/Malaysia Cross‐sectional Genetics Epidemiology Study (SMCGES) cohort. Results: All assessors are highly internally consistent (Weighted Kappa (κw) values≥0.952). We found that the Caucasian scale and Korean scale give nearly synonymous results for the wrinkling constituent of photo‐ageing (R2 = 0.9386). The two scales are strongly concordant (Spearman's Rank Correlation (ρ) value: 0.62 ± 0.06, p = 1.31×10−84). A weak‐to‐moderate inter‐scalar level of agreement (Cohen's Kappa (κ) values: 0.38 ± 0.05, p = 8.87×10−53) persists and is statistically significant after accounting for agreements due to chance. When tested on ethnic Chinese skin, both scales detect photo‐ageing consistently (Area under curve [AUC] values: 0.76‐0.84). Additionally, the Korean scale for the dyspigmentation constituent of photo‐ageing is concordant with both the Caucasian scale (R2 = 0.7888) and the Korean scale for the wrinkling constituent of photo‐ageing (R2 = 0.7734). Conclusion: Our results show that the Caucasian scale is suitable for capturing photo‐ageing on Chinese skin, especially wrinkle variations. The Korean dyspigmentation scale supplements the Caucasian scale to capture dyspigmentation patterns on Chinese skin that may be absent on Caucasian skin. Currently, photo‐ageing scales for Chinese skin are absent. When developed, these photo‐ageing scales must be properly validated for their ability to capture photo‐ageing of the entire face. Chinese special economic zones (SEZs) have played a key role in attracting massive foreign investment and in facilitating knowledge and technology transfer to local companies. This explains the mushrooming of Chinese‐led SEZs and industrial parks in parts of Southeast Asia and Africa since the early 2000s, and more recently its prominence in the planning of the economic corridors along the Belt and Road Initiative. Our interest in SEZs derives from the fact that they provide novel grounds to investigate the dynamics of knowledge transfer (KT) in South–South exchanges and the extent to which it diverges from more traditional exchanges. This study undertakes a comparative analysis of KT in the Eastern Industrial Zone (EIZ) in Ethiopia, and the Sihanoukville Special Economic Zone (SSEZ) in Cambodia. The case studies suggest that, although the provision of training by Chinese investors has added value to the labour force, its transformative impact is limited owing to the concentration on explicit KT modalities at lower skills levels and the top–down approach to KT by Chinese companies. These limitations are largely a function of the wide absorptive capacity gap between China and the host countries studied and the absence of more conducive industrial policies. We focus on the pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) report titled "Predictive factors for concomitant pulmonary arterial hypertension at diagnosis of systemic lupus erythematosus in a Chinese population" by Ying Pan et al.1 PAH is one of the major causes of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) related death,2,3 with many novel treatment strategies in recent years.4,5 Both early diagnosis and early intervention are considered to be crucial for improving the prognosis in these patients.6 This paper provides us with predictive factors of PAH in SLE patients, namely interstitial pneumonitis, myocardial damage and high immunoglobulin G,1 which can facilitate early detection and intervention of PAH. Summary: As a new form of social e‐commerce, live streaming e‐commerce is becoming increasingly popular among Chinese consumers. Live streaming brings huge opportunities, and we can take measures to further expand the dissemination of live streaming information. A live streaming information dissemination game model based on social evolutionary game theory is presented to simulate multiple complex live streaming e‐commerce networks. The introduction of incentive mechanism in the model further quantifies the internal relation between rewards and live streaming information dissemination to a certain extent and predicts the ratings of live streaming in networks with different update frequency of social relationships. The simulation results indicate that the reputation environment in social networks, adjusting frequency of relationship, pre‐broadcast rewards to post‐broadcast rewards ratio all have certain ranges of impact on information dissemination in live streaming e‐commerce environment and then affect the live streaming ratings. To explore the relationship between parental phubbing (PP) and adolescent online hostility and its' psychological mechanism, 689 Chinese adolescents were recruited to complete a paper‐and‐pencil questionnaire. We took cyber flaming (CF) as an overall category for hostile online communication to investigate the relationship between PP and CF and the mediating role of perspective‐taking (PT) in this relationship and examined whether there is a sex difference in this process. After controlling the average daily online time, the results showed that PP predicted adolescent CF positively. The relationship between PP and CF was partially mediated by PT. Background: Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 disease (COVID‐19) has caused a worldwide challenging and threatening pandemic. We aimed to assess the safety and efficacy of the COVID‐19 vaccines in Non‐Small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC) patients. Methods: Patient self‐reported adverse events related to vaccines were recorded by follow‐up through a uniform questionnaire. Survival analysis was performed by Kaplan–Meier method. A multivariate analysis was performed by the Cox proportional hazard regression model to determine the effect of each variable on the survival of lung cancer patients. Results: A total of 860 patients with NSCLC on treatment were enrolled. Mean age was 57 years in patients with early stage group and 62 years in advanced stage group. The vaccination rate was 71.11% for early‐stage patients and 19.48% for advanced‐stage patients; most of them (86.5%) received the COVID‐19 inactivated virus (Vero cell) vaccine (Coronavac; Sinovac). The most common systemic adverse reaction was weakness. The main reason for vaccine refusal in those unvaccinated patients was concern about the safety of vaccination in the presence of a tumor and undergoing treatment (56.9% and 53.4%). The 1‐year disease‐free survival (DFS) rate was 100% for vaccinated and 97.4% for unvaccinated early‐stage patients. Then we compared the progression‐free survival (PFS) of vaccinated (median PFS 9.0 months) and unvaccinated (median PFS 7.0 months) advanced stage patients (p = 0.815). Advanced NSCLC patients continued to be divided into groups receiving radio‐chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and targeted therapy, with no statistical difference in PFS between the groups (p > 0.05). The median overall survival (OS) of vaccinated patients was 20.5 months, and that of unvaccinated patients was 19.0 months (p = 0.478) in advanced NSCLC patients. Conclusions: COVID‐19 vaccination is safe for Chinese NSCLC patients actively receiving different antitumor treatments without increasing the incidence of adverse reactions, and vaccination does not affect cancer patient survival. Background: Limited research has been conducted regarding the elucidation of genotype–phenotype correlations within the 20q13.33 region. The genotype–phenotype association of 20q13.33 microdeletion remains inadequately understood. In the present study, two novel cases of 20q13.33 microdeletion were introduced, with the objective of enhancing understanding of the genotype–phenotype relationship. Methods: Two unrelated patients with various abnormal clinical phenotypes from Fujian province Southeast China were enrolled in the present study. Karyotype analysis and chromosomal microarray analysis (CMA) were performed to investigate chromosomal abnormalities and copy number variants. Results: The results of high‐resolution G‐banding karyotype analysis elicited a 46,XY,der(20)add(20)(q13.3) in Patient 1. This patient exhibited various clinical manifestations, such as global developmental delay, intellectual disability, seizures, and other congenital diseases. Subsequently, a 1.0‐Mb deletion was identified in the 20q13.33 region alongside a 5.2‐Mb duplication in the 14q32.31q32.33 region. In Patient 2, CMA results revealed a 1.8‐Mb deletion in the 20q13.33 region with a 4.8‐Mb duplication of 17q25.3. The patient exhibited additional abnormal clinical features, including micropenis, congenital heart disease, and a distinctive crying pattern characterized by a crooked mouth. Conclusion: In the present study, for the first time, an investigation was conducted into two novel cases of 20q13.33 microdeletion with microduplications in the 17q25.3 and 14q32.31q32.33 regions in the Chinese population. The presence of micropenis may be attributed to the 20q13.33 microdeletion, potentially expanding the phenotypic spectrum associated with this deletion. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: The goal of the study was to examine the genetic correlation of cluster of differentiation 14 (CD14) gene polymorphisms with peri‐implantitis (PI) predisposition in a Chinese Han population. Methods: In the case‐control study, blood samples were collected from PI patients and healthy individuals (n = 120/group), who were admitted to the Affiliated Hospital of Yangzhou University from 2021 to 2023. One‐way analysis of variance (ANOVA) was applied to compare differences of continuous variables among different groups. Genotype and allele distributions of CD14 gene rs2569190 and rs2915863 polymorphisms were analyzed between groups via χ2 test. Results: A high percentage of rs2569190 GG genotype or G allele carriers were identified in PI group compared with control group (p <.01). Rs2569190 GG genotype carriers had high risk to develop PI (odds ratio: 2.545, 95% confidence interval: 1.257–5.156, p =.009). The rs2569190 AA genotype carriers had the lowest values of gingival index, plaque index, calculus index, peri‐implant pocket depth, and clinical attachment level, which were the highest in cases with GG genotype. Conclusion: Rs2569190 polymorphism of CD14 gene was significantly associated with PI predisposition in the Chinese Han population, and the GG genotype and G allele were risk factors for the development of PI. Background: Filling therapy is becoming increasingly popular for correcting tear trough deformities (TTD). However, its therapeutic effect and retention time are limited. Aims: To improve the clinical efficacy and safety of TTD treatment in Asians, we used a blunt separation technique to break the adhesion site of periorbital subcutaneous tissue, and while repairing skin dermis after injury, it was combined with uncrosslinked hyaluronic acid compound solution to promote collagen regeneration and treat TTDs. Patients/Methods: Twenty‐six Chinese patients (21 women and 5 men) with TTD, with a mean age of 34.54 ± 9.21 (range, 20–56) years, were enrolled. Symptom improvement, recurrence rates, treatment safety, and patient satisfaction were evaluated. Results: All patients' tear trough rating scale (TTRS) scores decreased significantly immediately after treatment. The TTRS scores at 1, 3, and 6 months, and 1 year after treatment demonstrated significant differences from those before treatment (all p < 0.05). All patients' experienced mild pain, erythema, and swelling during the treatment. Three patients developed postinjection bruising after treatment, which lasted for 6–7 days and subsequently disappeared. No other adverse reactions were observed during the follow‐up. There were no recurrent cases, and patient satisfaction was very high. Conclusions: Blunt separation combined with an uncrosslinked sodium hyaluronate composite solution is safe and effective for treating TTDs in Asians with few side effects and has good clinical application prospects. Background: Wrinkle formation is the most visible characteristic of facial aging. Radiofrequency (RF) technology is currently utilized to reduce facial wrinkles and contribute to skin rejuvenation. Objective: To analyze the efficacy and safety of a noninvasive, home‐based RF device applied for facial rejuvenation in Chinese people. Methods: A single‐center, open‐label, intraindividual controlled trial was performed on subjects who received an 8‐week treatment of the RF device. A total of 22 female individuals aged 25–60 years with Fitzpatrick skin type III–IV were enrolled. Efficacy of treatment was subjectively evaluated using the Fitzpatrick Wrinkle Classification Scale (FWCS) assessed by physician or overall satisfaction of subject with a 10‐point VAS, and objectively using the skin ultrasound examination as well as the 3D skin analysis system. Adverse event was recorded at each visit. Results: In comparison with the baseline, evaluator‐assessed FWCS scores showed significant improvement at 4 weeks (p < 0.005) and 8 weeks (p < 0.005) after treatment. All subjects reported different degrees of improvement in facial wrinkles after 8 weeks of treatment. The results of skin ultrasound examination revealed significant increase of the dermal thickness at week 8 (p < 0.05) as compared to the baseline. In addition, a significant decrease in the proportion and density of perioral wrinkles evaluated by the 3D skin analysis system was observed from baseline to week 4. The treatment was well‐tolerated, and no serious adverse event was observed. Background: Rare and novel variants of HBA1/2 and HBB genes resulting in thalassemia and hemoglobin (Hb) variants have been increasingly identified. Our goal was to identify two rare Hb variants in Chinese population using third‐generation sequencing (TGS) technology. Methods: Enrolled in this study were two Chinese families from Fujian Province. Hematological screening was conducted using routine blood analysis and Hb capillary electrophoresis analysis. Routine thalassemia gene testing was carried out to detect the common mutations of α‐ and β‐thalassemia in Chinese population. Rare or novel α‐ and β‐globin gene variants were further investigated by TGS. Results: The proband of family 1 was a female aged 32, with decreased levels of mean corpuscular volume (MCV), mean corpuscular hemoglobin (MCH), Hb A2, and abnormal Hb bands in zone 5 and zone 12. No common thalassemia mutations were detected by routine thalassemia analysis, while a rare α‐globin gene variant Hb Jilin [α139(HC1)Lys>Gln (AAA>CAA); HBA2:c.418A>C] was identified by TGS. Subsequent pedigree analysis showed that the proband's son also harbored the Hb Jilin variant with slightly low levels of MCH, Hb A2, and abnormal Hb bands. The proband of family 2 was a male at 41 years of age, exhibiting normal MCV and MCH, but a low level of Hb A2 and an abnormal Hb band in zone 12 without any common α‐ and β‐thalassemia mutations. The subsequent TGS detection demonstrated a rare Hb Beijing [α16(A14)Lys>Asn (AAG>AAT); HBA2:c.51G>T] variant in HBA2 gene. Background: Newborn screening (NBS) aims to detect congenital anomalies, and next‐generation sequencing (NGS) has shown promise in this aspect. However, the NBS strategy for monogenic inherited diseases in China remains insufficient. Methods: We developed a NeoEXOME panel comprising 601 genes that are relevant to the Chinese population found through extensive research on available databases. An interpretation system to grade the results into positive (high‐risk, moderate‐risk, and low‐risk genotypes), negative, and carrier according to the American College of Medical Genetics (ACMG) guidelines was also developed. We validated the panel to evaluate its efficacy by using data from the "1000 Genomes Project" and conducted a pilot multicenter study involving 3423 neonates. Results: The NGS positive rate in the 1000 Genomes Project was 7.6% (23/301), whereas the rate was 12.0% in the multicenter study, including 3249 recruited neonates. Notably, in 200 neonates, positive per conventional NBS, 58.5% (69/118) showed results consistent with NGS. In the remaining 3049 neonates showing negative results in conventional NBS, 271 (8.9%) were positive per NGS, and nine of them were clinically diagnosed with diseases in the follow‐up. Conclusion: We successfully designed a NeoEXOME panel for targeted sequencing of monogenic inherited diseases in NBS. The panel demonstrated high performance in the Chinese population, particularly for the early detection of diseases with no biochemical markers. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
