The article focuses on the case of French actress Marie Trintignant dying after a fight with her rock-star boyfriend Bertrand Cantat. Trintignant's tragedy focused new attention on domestic violence in Europe. It highlights two facts that such violence can occur in any relationship and that statistics only hint at the depths of the problem. Studies show that there are factors and situations that influence the tendency toward violence.
