This article analyzes the media framings from which National Geographic Magazine -NGM- (1903-1926) contributed to the construction of the identity of Colombians at the beginning of the 20th century. The main argument of this paper defends the idea that the media framings found are directly supported by the ideologies of Manifest Destiny and Positivism. By means of the rhetoric strategy of appropriation, the framings found promote two values associated with the Manifest Destiny: the virtue of the institutions of the United States and the mission to transform the world in accordance with the values professed by this country. Regarding the ideology of positivism, the media framings reproduce this ideology through the rhetorical strategy of classification, given that the reports observe the identity of Colombians through the lens of the scientific theory of Darwinism. The question concerning the nature of "true philosophy" is a constant in Hume's philosophical enquiry. The present paper revisits the Conclusion of Book i of the Treatise of Human Nature, a crucial piece of writing to understand his answer to that question. In this dramatic section, the author narrates the crisis he suffered after confronting his science of human nature with sceptical arguments. I interpret Hume's narrative as a phenomenological description of the flux of passions, dispositions, and transformers which, after reflection, determine the transit from false to true philosophy, that will be justified by sceptical motives. Hume's voyage shouldn't be read only as an autobiographical experience since it represents the desired turn that should be followed by anyone who feels inclined towards philosophy, in order to discover both the utility and the pleasure derived from its practice. The 1960s were the scene of the most transcendent documentary cinema that has been produced in Cuba. In a cinematography led by men, the name of an only woman director stands out, Sara Gómez, whose sensitivity allowed her to represent, from a singular use of lmic language, the social otherness of her time. is paper intends to understand the dramaturgical strategies used by this author to approach the subaltern subject in Cuba aer the triumph of 1959. Focused on the study of the documentaries Guanabacoa, chronicle of my family (1966) and On the other island (1968), the analysis uses the review of theoretical proposals on otherness in and dramaturgy of the documentary. In analyzing 1 Cor 1:26-31, this paper seeks to highlight the rhetorical power of the Pauline argument which states that most of the people God called to create the Christian community at Corinth are not "wise," "powerful," and "from a prestigious family," but "fool things," "weak things," "despicable things," and "things that are nothing." By revealing his wisdom and power in the cross of Christ, God chooses the weakness and madness of the world, destroying the foundations of human pride. The paper also shows that Paul's statements cannot be dissociated from the Greco-Roman culture's honor discourse, associated with power, gender, and social standing. In addition to wealth, associated with people of high social status, there was a hierarchy of values that included family lineage, connections with Rome, and cultural sophistication. This paper analyzes the case of DOCUPERU, an organization that creates audiovisual contents intended to reect on the use of the collaborative documentary, which aims to promote an inclusive culture of active citizens. It is determined that the products designed by José Balado and his team result from collective actions that allow the marginal communities to gain access to some ways of self-representation, rebuilding their memory and speaking of their quotidianness. Firstly this paper presents an overview of the cultural agency. fien, it explains how these forms of amateur production have led to a new boost for the collaborative documentary. Finally, an interview to Balado is transcribed herein; this way he explains the fundamentals making possible to create such collective life experience. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

JUSTICE , *CONTRACTARIANISM (Ethics) , *EQUALITY , *DUTY , *RESPONSIBILITY , *COMMON good - Abstract
This paper argues that there is a thread in the philosophy of E. Tugendhat binding together his moral and justice theories with his conceptual analysis. Oriented by the thesis that a conceptual analysis is necessary to explain what justice is, this paper reconstructs some aspects of Tugendhat's philosophy. It is divided in four sections: First, I delve into the author's definition and use of conceptual analysis. Second, I describe some features of Tugendhat's moral theory of contractualism. Third, I examine his theory of justice. Fourth, I conclude by framing my analysis within the debate between Rawls's and Tugendhat's theories of justice. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

CIVIL rights of people with disabilities , *WELL-being , *QUALITY of life , *SOCIAL integration , *SOCIAL conditions of people with disabilities , *EMPLOYMENT of people with disabilities - Abstract
This work aims to analyze the studies conducted on people with disability under the approaches of rights and capabilities considering those aspects interesting in the public health field, such as the inequality, social justice, social determining factors, and well-being of collective groups. A narrative review of the both national and international literature concerning the disability was carried out under both the right approach and the capability approach. Searches were carried out based on keywords in Spanish, English and Portuguese. The quest for information provided 32 documents in total; regarding the approaches under study, 16 papers dealt with rights and disability, 11 papers with capabilities and disability, and 5 papers with both approaches. It can be concluded that the approaches of rights and capabilities have a dichotomous and non-linear relation. Regarding the disability, these two approaches indeed complement each other from their different fields, especially when it comes to cope with the barriers existing between people with disability in the spheres of education, employment and health. This paper explores to what extent individual, organizational and social factors determine academic trajectories, controlling for socio-demographic variables such as sex and academic rank. For this, a correlational study was developed in a convenience sample of academics from the Federico II University of Naples, in Italy (N = 228, 55.3 % men and 44.7 % women), between 21 and 67 years old (M = 51.7, SD = 9.2), with the use of descriptive statistics and multiple correspondence analysis. The results show two differentiated tendencies: (1) that of male and full-professors, and (2) that of women and middle and early-career levels. The first group perceive less difficulties and value personal (Model 1, 53.9 % of variance) and family success (Model 2, 50.3 % of variance) factors more. Barriers such as the influence of informal power networks (Model 3, 42.7 % of variance) and family issues, as work-life balance (Model 4 and 5, 50.2 % and 59.9 % of variance), are perceived with greater intensity by the second group. The results highlight the importance of measures for equal opportunities in academia. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The paper aims to understand the evolution of the Corporate Social Responsibility and Corporate Sustainability constructs according to different management research paradigms, as well as current tensions and future research possibilities. The methodology adopted is a tertiary review of the literature. The situation of the convergence of the two concepts, which makes it difficult to have clarity for the advance of research, and criticism towards both constructs (business case, self-fulfilling prophecy, invisibility of stakeholders, and reproduction of the capitalist paradigm of production and consumption), stand out as results. Future research perspectives are related to the deepening of each construct separately, the incorporation of other theories and disciplines into the analysis, and the integration of nonmainstream ideas. The purpose of this paper is two fold: First, an analysis of the direct effect of ownership structure and boards of directors on insider trading. Secondly, we examine the possible moderating effect the concentration of ownership has on the disciplinary role of boards in preventing this market practice. The results of the multiple regression and hierarchical multiple regression show the negative effect of both concentration of property and the portion of independent directors on insider trading. Regarding the moderating effect, there is evidence that the controlling roles on the boards are influenced by the concentration of property. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper explores the different dimensions of women's empowerment that can arise during the entrepreneurial process. It considers the changes in these dimensions as women advance in the development of their new ventures, differentiating characteristics according to the context (urban or rural). Another contribution refers to which empowerment factors developed by female entrepreneurs are key to reducing poverty. The proposal develops a multiple correspondence analysis and an ordered probit model, with data from the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) Colombia. The results make it possible to identify what is needed to strengthen the empowerment of women through entrepreneurship, and the resources available for this. Furthermore, the relationship found between economic empowerment factors and family income provides evidence for the importance of empowerment for poverty reduction. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper contributes to clarifying Deleuze's theory of the Idea by a commentary on its technical definition: "a defined, continuous, n-dimensional multiplicity", presented in chapter IV of Difference and Repetition (1968). This definition implicitly intertwines Deleuze's own metaphysical view of the Idea as a virtual problem with a series of notions taken from the differential geometry developed by the German mathematician Georg B. Riemann. To clarify this influence, we will reconstruct the fundamental elements of the Riemannian notions used by Deleuze, and show how these elements are presupposed in Deleuze's concept of Idea. MODERN philosophy , *MODERNITY - Abstract
When the conquerors arrived in the Valley of Mexico, they were amazed at the creations of the culture inherited from the Toltec tradition. With the prurpose of acknowledging this culture, this paper points out that words such as truth, thinking, and doubt have a very different connotation in modern European philosophy, to the Anahuac culture, which flourished in the Valley of Mexico between the 9th and 16th centuries. This writing presents a comparison of the process to obtain true knowledge according to the rationality of the Nahua world of the 16th century and three authors of European modernity: Descartes, Kant and Hegel. Modernity is found to present a dominant and egocentric subject with self-referential thinking. In the Nahua culture the ideal is the man with a "heart of stone" and a "wise face" who seeks what is true, what has roots, and expresses it through poetry, "the flower and the song". NIHILISM , *GEOGRAPHIC boundaries , *AXIOMS , *POINT cloud , *COLLECTIONS - Abstract
This paper addresses the issue of boundaries in the broader discussion about material composition. According to nihilism, two or more objects can never compose a further one. In this view, ordinary material objects and their boundaries (surfaces) would be fiat entities, while simple objects (partless) and their sharp boundaries are the only bona fide components of the world. However, if there are reasons to postulate the existence of a bona fide boundary that separates a collection of objects from their spatial surroundings, then there are reasons to postulate the existence of a bona fide composite object too. If there exists a boundary, given its ontological dependence, there must exist an object it belongs to. The emergence of a boundary of a three-dimensional material object instantiates properties which are irreducible to the properties of their parts. Nonetheless, once that boundaries are introduced in the world, the presence of the ontological vagueness in modal terms becomes unavoidable. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper advances the analysis of the concept of Umwelt in Jakob von Uexküll's work, by examining its different formulations, and highlighting the successive redefinitions of its two components: the perception world (Merkwelt) and the effect world (Wirkungswelt, Wirkwelt). Considering the significant impact that the concept of Umwelt had on continental philosophy, the purpose of this study is to reconstruct its meaning through a historical-conceptual analysis, to illuminate some aspects that are not usually thematized in literature--in particular, those related to the effect world. GENETIC programming , *HUMAN-animal communication , *TELECOMMUNICATION systems , *INFORMATION society , *MODERN society , *COMMUNITY of inquiry , *VIRTUE epistemology , *ANTHROPOLOGY - Abstract
The article deals with the concept of human quality and deep human quality which, according to Catalan epistemologist Marià Corbí, expresses what was previously called spirituality. Deep human quality is a constitutive dimension of the human being, an anthropological fact that does not depend on religions. The text shows, in consonance with the axiological epistemology theory elaborated by Corbí, that spirituality is associated with ways of knowing that date back to pre-industrial period anthropologies. The wisdom traditions were born and constituted from a pattern that is no longer recognized in modern knowledge societies. The way of proceeding and acting in pre-industrial societies with all their cultural creations is framed by the idea of submission. In other words, deep human quality has to do with free inquiry and is therefore associated with modern knowledge societies, incompatible with beliefs, orthodoxies, and homogeneity. It demonstrates the role of speech and its function of grasping the relative dimension to our needs and another dimension not limited to our needs, i.e., the absolute dimension. As unfounded beings, the condition of speakers allows human beings to create their collective axiological projects, full of meanings of reality, values, interpretation of the world, and forms of survival. Speech, in this context, is a consequence of the human need for survival, a biological event, which allows the human-animal to develop its communication system without modifying its genetic programming or its morphology. Finally, the paper discusses the circumstances of deep human quality development in modern knowledge societies. Deep human quality, for Corbí, is usually defined by unconditional interest, distancing, silencing, and by free inquiry, community, and service. All-access to the absolute dimension as well as the cultivation of the deep human quality passes through unconditional interest, distancing and silencing, and free inquiry, community, and service. The present paper attempts to call attention to the notorious influence that the work of the Spanish nun sor María de Jesús de Ágreda (1602-1665) exerted over the work of sor Juana Inés de la Cruz (1648-1695), particularly over the Primero Sueño. Through the work of sor María, especially in her book Mística Ciudad de Dios, a bond can be stablished between the master piece of the Mexican nun and one of her minor and less known texts: Ejerciciosde la Encarnación. In the texts above, there is an element in common: The soul of a woman is favored with a vision of totality. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper aims to approach the theory and practice of neoliberalism from a Political Discourse Analysis perspective. In the first part, it analyzes the main debates and controversies surrounding the theoretical, ontological and axiological characteristics of neoliberalism, and its applications at the state level. In the second part, he examines the methodological problems of rigorously investigating the phenomenon of neoliberalism, which are linked to the ambiguous and pragmatic character of the neoliberal theoretical body, the various stages, rhythms, degrees of depth and intensities of state neoliberalization, and the tensions and contradictions between neoliberal theory and its historical applications. In the last part, it offers a complex conceptualization and proposes some analytical operations to contribute to investigate neoliberalism and its ontic uses at the state level, through the tools of Political Discourse theory. PENSIONS , *FINANCIALIZATION , *SOCIAL policy , *CAPITALISM , *GOVERNMENT policy ,DEVELOPED countries - Abstract
This paper deals with financialization, a concept that critically describes the rise and expansion of financial capital in the economy and its social and political implications. Seen from the perspective of financialization, the Colombian pension system of Law 100 of 1993 (Congress of the Republic of Colombia, 1993) illustrates the expansion of financial capital in emerging or peripheral economies, highlighting the inferior and subordinate status of these countries with respect to the more developed economies. In these countries, the adoption of private pension funds goes hand in hand with financial liberalization and the search to expand their capital markets. Moreover, pension systems have never been far removed from economic structures; they have been created and developed within them. In Colombia, as a country whose industry did not fully awaken, the necessary conditions for the most guaranteeing pension models could not be met. Although the current Colombian model is not purely controlled by private funds, the link between these funds and the financial players is so strong that there is still unresolved tension around the complete privatization of the system. In addition, the institutional formula through which it is evident that this is a financialized system is the so-called multi-fund pension scheme. Thus, under the magnifying glass of the financialization that has governed the current pension system and its most recent changes, we can also read the announcements and reform proposals put forward by the government, unions and think tanks at the end of neoliberalism. BASIC income , *SOCIAL policy , *FULL-time employment , *CITIZENSHIP , *SOCIAL change , *SOCIAL services , *PUBLIC welfare - Abstract
This article analyzes the ethical foundations of a universal, individual and unconditional basic income, and its transformative potential in the world of work and social policy. Guaranteeing a right to existence, as the materialization of a normative ideal of real freedom, implies overcoming the contributory principle and promoting a situation of full voluntary employment. The combination of both aspects could lead to the emergence of a socioeconomic order that transcends the compensatory connotations of contemporary social policy and goes beyond the scope of the conservative, liberal and social democratic models of the welfare state. The paper presents the discussions around basic income in the field of the theories of justice as distribution, analyzes the idea of "work as an asset" and shows the myths that support the validity of the contributory principle. Throughout these reflections, the main criticisms of basic income from liberal, trade union, feminist, communist and republican perspectives will also be presented. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper explains why Chile's foreign policy, since the return to democracy in 1990, maintained and deepened the economicist character established during the authoritarian predecessor regime. It is argued that, in addition to structural factors linked to globalization, neoliberalism and interdependence, there are domestic elements linked to the transition and its political dynamics that had an impact on the actors that shaped it. Despite being a case study, the article emphasizes the general debate on the mutual constitution between agents and structures to explain foreign policy, considering the role of the actors in a framework of external and domestic transformations. To this end, the case of former members of the Joint Study Program on Latin American International Relations (RIAL), academics who, after the return to democracy, assumed political positions, is analyzed. The renewal of the ideas of these actors, who assumed the new international practices and accepted the domestic political dynamics, contributed to the continuity of the economic pragmatism of foreign policy initiated by the dictatorship. This article exposes how Colombian constitutional historicism or traditionalism has been marked by hyper-presidentialism. Although the 1991 Constitution imposed a moderate presidentialism as an alternative to the historicism, hyper-presidentialism returned through constitutional reforms and traditional political practices, especially in the Uribe [2002-2010] and Santos [2010-2018] government mandates. Such accumulation of power in President Santos, organized by several previous governments, allowed him to advance a peace process with the FARC guerrilla against many sectors that have rejected a negotiated solution to the armed conflict. Nevertheless, this paper asks if it is worth betting on accumulating so much power in one person, even though in this case served laudable ends from a pacifist perspective, given that the risks of hyper-presidentialism are very elevated for a republican democracy. Introduction. This research was developed in the framework of the Observatory on rurality and peace in pandemic and post-pandemic contexts, this paper presents advances of interdisciplinary research and reflections about collective health in the Antioquian subregion of Urabá, focused on rural contexts. Objective. To identify the integration/exclusion dynamics related to collective health in rural territories of the Antioquian subregion of Urabá, in the pandemic for COVID-19 context. Methods. The Scalar Model of Collective Health in Times of Pandemic was used as a tool for questioning epidemiological data and territorial readings, in dialogue with the voices of inhabitants and leaders of local social organizations. Results. Results allow to identify the dynamics of the pandemic in terms of integration/exclusion of the municipalities of the sub-region; the overlapping logics of legality and illegality in the territories; the amplification of impacts in territories with historical burdens of inequality; and the great limitations to achieve an effective level of governance in health. Conclusions. The greatest limitation has been the absence of differentiated data for the rural areas, ethnic origin, and precision about the contagion origin. This analysis leads us to affirm that pandemic for COVID-19 reveals structural imbalances, especially in the rural areas of Colombia. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper analyzes the figure of the intellectual in Michel Foucault and Maurice Blanchot, from three distinct perspectives: 1) The affirmation of the anonymity of language; 2) the critical approach against power; and 3) the ethics of thinking and writing. The intellectual is thus characterized as an anonymous voice among anonymous voices; as someone who holds power accountable; as a solidary guard for the anonymous--and his writing as the exercise of a specific kind of responsibility. In 1836, at 19 years of age, Colombian philosopher José Eusebio Caro wrote a sociological and anthropological treatise titled Mecánica social (Social Mechanics) that illustrates in context the reception of French philosophy (sensualism, ideology, physiology) in 19th-century Colombian philosophical thought. The purpose of this paper is to present critically Caro's theory of the will and to bring to light the philosophical sources from which he draw, especially physiology and its role as theoretical basis for both ideology and a new "scientific" anthropology that could, in turn, provide support for a science of morals and legislation, a major goal of French radical liberal thought. This paper presents, from an introductory point of view and oriented to non-experts in network theory, the fundamentals of graphs and networks that allow projecting information about cultural networks in a formal context. It also describes some of the most common measures and tools to design quantitative mechanisms for the subsequent analysis of these networks. This article does not pretend to be a complete course or tutorial on network theory, for that the reader can refer to any of the references listed at the end, but rather it is an introduction oriented to go through, in a single document, some of the details that are considered more important and that are usually leTh out of the initial explanations on the subject. Throughout the last 15 years, Colombian migrations experimented a massive geographical expansion without precedents. Within Latin America, Argentina stands out as the main destination, and therefore, the main objective of this paper is to analyze the origins and evolution of Colombian migrations to Argentina. Resorting to statistical and ethnographical elements, the paper shows the new migratory patterns of Colombian population to Argentina, even though the current migratory trend towards this country is descending. RIGHT to water , *DRINKING water , *WATER supply , *HUMAN rights , *WATER use , *WATER supply policy - Abstract
This paper provides some reflections on the discussions resulting from the UN declaration, A/64/L.63/Rev.1. It is a resolution dated July 26, 2010 whereby the UN enacts the drinking water and sanitation as an essential human right, which creates some obligations the private actors will demand the Member States to comply with. Based on the foregoing, the UN Member States, including Colombia, are now required to ensure a water supply with quality and 100% coverage to their inhabitants via an aqueduct. However, governments face, in turn, the challenge to preserve the water sources constituting the raw material for ensuring those rights the UN has enacted as claimable by all human beings. This way, this paper poses some questions and queries regarding the tasks to be undertaken by both the Colombian State and the private actors to comply with the UN directives, without detriment to the water sources and the environmental sustainability. LIBRARIES , *INTERNATIONALISM , *PEACEBUILDING , *PACIFISTS - Abstract
This article reflects on the connection between libraries and peace. Libraries depend on the peace in order to exist, develop and survive. In turn, libraries contribute to build and preserve the peace. The first part of this paper analyses the emergence of internationalist and pacifist movements during the 19th century and its relation to the modern advent of both the documentation science and the library science. Next, this paper discusses the role of the libraries in the consolidation of the peace as conceived of by the UNESCO and inquires into the different contemporary conceptions around the concept of peace. Finally, the role of the libraries in the construction of the peace is explored. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper is intended to determine the worth of unpaid health care in Uruguay and to characterize the caregivers (either paid or unpaid) who serve ill people. These objectives are accomplished mainly through the quantitative analysis of the data gathered by the first National Survey of Unpaid Health Care (2013) in Uruguay. This survey enables to become aware and set the worth of the unpaid health care times (replacement cost method) and to characterize the unpaid caregivers. This paper shows how the unpaid health care provided by homes accounts for a third of whole health care aggregate in the Gross Domestic Product. Women are the main caregivers, thus assuming the costs of losing their autonomy and seeing reduced the opportunities to enjoy their rights. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper puts the spotlight on the dominant 'imaginary' (Castoriadis 1987) governing writing research, focusing in particular on the way in which evaluation regimes shape analytic orientations towards writing as a phenomenon. Drawing on data from three different research projects- student writing ( e.g. Lillis 2001), scholars' writing for publication (e.g. Lillis and Curry 2010), writing in professional social work (e.g. Lillis, 2017)-the paper has three objectives: 1) to illustrate the normative evaluative approach towards writing evident in practises of uptake within the evaluation regimes, that is by teacher, reviewer, manager/inspector; 2) to signal that some widely used analytic categories/frames used across writing research traditions may mirror features of evaluation regimes and lead to a misrecognition, rather than an illumination of what is going on; 3) to illustrate the value of ethnographically oriented approaches, in particular work which explores writing through a focus on trajectories (of texts and of people) for opening up our research imaginaries and for making visible key dimensions to the phenomena we are exploring. DIFFERENCE (Philosophy) , *REPETITION (Philosophy) - Abstract
In this paper I shall address the connections between Deleuze and Guattari's philosophy and Caribbean thought. However, I will only focus on Antonio Benítez Rojo's essay The Repeating Island (1998), since I have found in it the presence--or expression--of some key deleuzian and deleuzo-guattarian concepts. I will use the deleuzian concept of repetition to defend this stance, as well as to argue that one may find some of the most interesting readings of Deleuze's texts in the work of Caribbean authors such as Benítez Rojo, not only in spite of their relative understanding and lack of exegetical rigour, but rather thanks to the fact that this is, in no case, their main intention. The angle I have chosen does not intend to point out consistencies or inconsistencies in Benítez Rojo's "appropriations" or "rewritings" of Deleuze and Guattari, for this would only keep us within the logic of the copy versus the original. Instead, this reading tries to destabilize the boundaries between philosophy and literature as well as between French ("Western", central, from the North) and Caribbean thought (supposedly non-Western, peripheral, and from the South). The undoing of these types of distinction intends to produce a new theatre of thought, a theatre of repetition, not of representation, in order to set up the scene for a contrapunteo (counterpointing: debate, quarrel, improvised versed duel) between two images of thought: one deleuzian, the other Caribbean. Thus, we embark upon this journey hoping to have an encounter that promises yet another becoming to Deleuze's philosophy. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this paper the influence of John Duns Scotus's thought in Gilles Deleuze's Difference and Repetition is outlined, centering the analysis in the concepts of "univocal being" and "intrinsic mode". The novelty of this work lies on its effort to accurately locate the thesis of the univocity of being and the theory of intrinsic mode that goes along with it in the work of Duns Scotus. Subsequently, an attempt is made to determine the horizon of appropriation and the conceptual displacement operated by Gilles Deleuze in his own work. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

DIFFERENCE (Philosophy) , *REPETITION (Philosophy) , *ONTOLOGY , *IDEA (Philosophy) , *INDIVIDUATION (Philosophy) , *PROBLEM solving - Abstract
This paper outlines the ontology of problems in Deleuze's magnum opus, Difference and Repetition (1968). By ontology of problems I refer to the conceptualization of problems as a fundamentally ontological--not epistemological--subject. This problematic-being is the object of Ideas, which are at the core of Deleuzian ontology, as shown in the actualization of the virtual and its four aspects: differentiation [différentiation], individuation, dramatization, and differentiation [différenciation]. For this reason, a deeper comprehension of the ontology of problems serves as the most adequate prelude for a sound approach to all of Deleuzian ontology. In addition, this article highlights the philosophical and scientific sources upon which Deleuze draws in order to build his ontology of problems. Of special note are his references to several metaphysicians of differential calculus (Bordas-Demoulin, Maïmon, Hoëne-Wronski) and prominent mathematicians (Carnot, Abel, Galois, Riemann, Lautman) of the 19th and 20th centuries. The paper analyzes the complex scenario of the issue of women. To do this, she outlines the feminine movement trajectory in the last few years, indicating a value of her own in its specificity. The study of Edith Stein's reflections is relevant for understanding her biblical and anthropological foundations of the "differentiation" and "unity" between both sexes. In this regard, and supported by a phenomenology of religion, this study examines the peculiar way of being a man or a woman, along with the "common vocation" attributed to a human being. A complex reading of steiniana work and mainly her Conferences on Women makes it possible to clarify what this natural feminine and masculine vocation consists of and if they belong to an original order. Reviewing the documents of the II General Conference of the Latin American Episcopate (1968), a lack of specifically missiological reflection emerges. However, Medellin offers essential elements for a proper Latin American missionary debate. The objectives of this paper are: to recall the contributions of the Melgar Document in preparation to Medellin, to remember Bishop Samuel Ruiz' conference "Evangelization in Latin America" and to share some considerations about the major lines that characterize the Final Document. From this study it is possible to glimpse emerging problems, missionary perspectives, some gaps and, in particular, the fundamental axes upon which it may be possible to set up a Theology of Mission from Latin America. This paper has selected Beatriz Sarlo's more than eighty articles, reviews and debate interventions published in Punto de Vista magazine as a text corpus for analysis. In order to organize said corpus, we have divided it into four sections: 1) Argentinian literature: The past; 2) Argentinian literature: The present; 3) intellectuals; 4) literary theory, cultural theory. All the sections comprise reviews of the articles and seek to propose, for each case, a set of interpretative hypotheses. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

ARGENTINE literature , *SCHOLARLY periodicals , *ACADEMIC discourse , *CRITICAL theory - Abstract
Based on the premise that, for Beatriz Sarlo, a link with the present is the center of a radical critical experience, in this paper we locate, map and interpret the series of texts and interventions in which the intensity of this condition is redistributed, around the year 2007, as a turning point. Our hypothesis is that it is in this redistribution of writings and writing practices (synthesized in the volume Escritos de literatura argentina and in the journalistic articles published in the newspaper Perfil, and later gathered in Ficciones argentinas), and not necessarily in what can be considered as its first programmatic formulation of 1987 (literature written in the present as a critique of the present), that we must read in Beatriz Sarlo's work a (critical) theory of the present. This crossover of experiences with time (experiences of clashes, of ends, of re-establishments) also and above all shows that what has changed for Sarlo after these twenty years (1987-2007), together with the place and value of the present in literature (the subject of a formal elaboration/content to be represented), is the place and the very function of criticism in relation to the present of this literature. THEORY of knowledge , *KNOWLEDGE base , *REPORTAGE literature , *ACADEMIC discourse , *LITERARY criticism - Abstract
This paper develops a critical reading of Viajes. De la Amazonia a las Malvinas which focuses on the evaluation of Beatriz Sarlo's autobiographical rhetoric, the ways in which her testimonial writing articulates narration and essay, personal experience and knowledge. On the one hand, it reconstructs the strategies of self-figuration that aim to sustain the image of the author as a moralist who exercises criticism of contemporary customs (those of tourism as a practice of mass culture, in general, and those of "ideological tourism" that young Latin Americans practiced towards the end of the 1960s and beginning of the 1970s, in specific). On the other hand, it evaluates the success of the means by which Sarlo is able to transcend the narcissism typical of autobiographical remembrance: the theoretical framework (centered on the concept-value of "programme leap"), the essayistic experimentation with the styles of presentation (those of travel narratives and those of ideological criticism) and the search for a nuanced tone, able to transmit the coexistence of heterogeneous affections without inhibiting the possibility of a return to the past in the present as a process still in progress. In the context of a corpus of Argentinian academic crime fiction writers (which includes authors such as Ricardo Piglia and Guillermo Martínez), in this paper I propose an approach to this sub-genre based on the novel Filosofía y Letras (1998) by Pablo De Santis. I thus show and analyze three substantive issues of this novel: the representation of academics as crazy and miserable subjects, the construction of a crime fiction plot lacking the presence of a strong detective figure and the representation of the building of the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters (building that finally becomes the protagonist of the novel). FORMALISM (Literary analysis) , *DECISION making , *NARRATIVE poetry , *ARGENTINE literature , *LITERARY criticism - Abstract
The main characteristic of Sarlo's reading of Saer is a peculiar type of formalism. Her reading impulse lies in this articulation: the focus on the artistic technique (poetic, narrative), considered semantically functional, recoverable, and subject to a decision-making process; the relationship between that poetic of the form and an intertextual program whose center is Borges, with Saer's corresponding place in the history of Argentinian literary history, and, as a consequence of the unifying force of that formal and intertextual approach, a judgement about the highest value of Saer's work arises, which Sarlo describes as "perfect." At the same time, our paper develops approximations to a potential blind spot in that reading. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
