The present paper attempts to call attention to the notorious influence that the work of the Spanish nun sor María de Jesús de Ágreda (1602-1665) exerted over the work of sor Juana Inés de la Cruz (1648-1695), particularly over the Primero Sueño. Through the work of sor María, especially in her book Mística Ciudad de Dios, a bond can be stablished between the master piece of the Mexican nun and one of her minor and less known texts: Ejerciciosde la Encarnación.
