Large-scale benchmark datasets are crucial in advancing research within the computer science communities. They enable the development of more sophisticated AI models and serve as "golden" benchmarks for evaluating their performance. Thus, ensuring the quality of these datasets is of utmost importance for academic research and the progress of AI systems. For the emerging vision-language tasks, some datasets have been created and frequently used, such as Flickr30k, COCO, and NoCaps, which typically contain a large number of images paired with their ground-truth textual descriptions. In this paper, an automatic method is proposed to assess the quality of large-scale benchmark datasets designed for vision-language tasks. In particular, a new cross-modal matching model is developed, which is capable of automatically scoring the textual descriptions of visual images. Subsequently, this model is employed to evaluate the quality of vision-language datasets by automatically assigning a score to each 'ground-truth' description for every image picture. With a good agreement between manual and automated scoring results on the datasets, our findings reveal significant disparities in the quality of the ground-truth descriptions included in the benchmark datasets. Even more surprising, it is evident that a small portion of the descriptions are unsuitable for serving as reliable ground-truth references. Computational models are foundational concepts in computer science; many of these models such as P systems are based on natural biological processes. P systems represent a wide framework for a variety of concepts of data mining, as models of data clustering approaches. Data clustering is a technique for analyzing data based on its structure that is widely utilized for many applications. In this paper, the proposed model (PSO-MFM) has combined the Particle Swarm Optimization algorithm (PSO) with Mitochondrial Fusion Model to overcome some constraints of clustering techniques. The solving of clustering problem based on particle swarm is investigated in the proposed model when mutual dynamic rules are used. It can find the best cluster centers for a data set and improve clustering performance by utilizing the distributed parallel computing concept of mutual dynamic rules of mitochondrial fusion model. The comparative results demonstrate that the proposed strategy outperforms competition models when it comes to clustering accuracy, stability and the most efficient in time complexity. With the increase interest and number of the users in Social media, the file handling has also increased. To manage the load, cloud servers are being used by the service providers. To identify and cluster file is a difficult task that is important in the domain of computer science. Various traditional approaches for identification exists that uses design features. The problem with these methods is get that they can be easily spoofed. To resolve the issue, in this paper, a hybrid algorithm combining the features of Random Forest with AdaBoost is proposed. The algorithm Internet of Thing (IoT) data file formatting (IDFF) classifies data as (text, image, audio and video) and gives better accuracy. Let d-claw (or d-star) stand for K 1 , d , the complete bipartite graph with 1 and d ≥ 1 vertices on each part. The d-claw vertex deletion problem, d -claw-vd, asks for a given graph G and an integer k if one can delete at most k vertices from G such that the resulting graph has no d-claw as an induced subgraph. Thus, 1 -claw-vd and 2 -claw-vd are just the famous vertex cover problem and the cluster vertex deletion problem, respectively. In this paper, we strengthen a hardness result recently proved in Jena and Subramani (in: Du, Du, Wu, and Zhu (eds) Theory and applications of models of computation - 17th annual conference, TAMC 2022, Tianjin, China, September 16–18, 2022, Proceedings, 2022), by showing that cluster vertex deletion remains NP -complete even when restricted to planar bipartite graphs of maximum degree 3 and arbitrary large girth. Moreover, for every d ≥ 3 , we show that d -claw-vd is NP -complete even when restricted to planar bipartite graphs of maximum degree d. These hardness results are optimal with respect to degree constraint. By extending the hardness result in Bonomo-Braberman et al (in: Computing and combinatorics - 26th international conference, COCOON 2020, Proceedings, Lecture Notes in Computer Science, vol 12273, Springer, 2020, pp 14–26, 2020), we show that, for every d ≥ 3 , d -claw-vd is NP -complete even when restricted to split graphs without (d + 1) -claws, and split graphs of diameter 2. On the positive side, we prove that d -claw-vd is polynomially solvable on what we call d-block graphs, a class properly contains all block graphs. This result extends the polynomial-time algorithm in Cao et al (Theor Comput Sci, 2018) for 2 -claw-vd on block graphs to d -claw-vd for all d ≥ 2 and improves the polynomial-time algorithm proposed by Bonomo-Brabeman et al. for (unweighted) 3 -claw-vd on block graphs to 3-block graphs. With the advent of technological advancement in learning, such as context-awareness, ubiquity and personalisation, various innovations in teaching and learning have led to improved learning. This research paper aims to develop a system that supports personalised learning through adaptive content, adaptive learning path and context awareness to meet individual learner's requirements and promote the effectiveness and performance of the learning process. Furthermore, the study used an experimental control group to ascertain the significance of learners' learning styles and preferences in improving learning performance. The model considers different modules such as personalisation, location support, learning plan and context awareness while relying on the proper classification of learners' learning styles. The system was experimented using 127 learners of a Computer Science Course. The result obtained using 10-fold cross-validation on various algorithms shows better performance in ROC, Kappa and Accuracy, which were all used to evaluate the quality of classification outcome and compared with learners' performances in assessments. During classification, Naïve Bayes Model has the highest average ROC value of 0.979, TP Rate of 0.951 and FP Rate of 0.045. The results obtained show an improvement in learning. The integration of biology, computer science, and statistics has given rise to the interdisciplinary field of bioinformatics, which aims to decode biological intricacies. It produces extensive and diverse features, presenting an enormous challenge in classifying bioinformatic problems. Therefore, an intelligent bioinformatics classification system must select the most relevant features to enhance machine learning performance. This paper proposes a feature selection model based on the fractal concept to improve the performance of intelligent systems in classifying high-dimensional biological problems. The proposed fractal feature selection (FFS) model divides features into blocks, measures the similarity between blocks using root mean square error (RMSE), and determines the importance of features based on low RMSE. The proposed FFS is tested and evaluated over ten high-dimensional bioinformatics datasets. The experiment results showed that the model significantly improved machine learning accuracy. This paper introduces HexBot, a Chatbot meticulously crafted to enhance the learning journey of students enrolled in a data structures course at an esteemed educational institution. The development of HexBot entailed an exhaustive exploration of cutting-edge practices, methodologies, and apt tools. Additionally, a comprehensive user survey was conducted to ascertain preferences and requirements pertaining to the Chatbot's utilization for this specific purpose. HexBot was successfully implemented on the SnatchBot platform and seamlessly integrated into a dedicated Telegram channel. Encouragingly, the outcomes underscore its efficacy in empowering college students to independently access precise information about data structures within the realm of computer science, thereby obviating the necessity for human intervention. Since the Ronan Point collapse in the UK in 1968, the progressive collapse analysis of residential buildings has gradually drawn the attention of civil engineers and the scientific community. Recent advances in computer science and the development of new numerical methodologies allow us to perform high-fidelity collapse simulations. This paper assesses different scenarios that could have hypothetically caused the collapse of the Champlain Tower South Condo in Surfside, Florida, in 2021, one of the most catastrophic progressive collapse events that has ever occurred. The collapse analysis was performed using the latest developments in the Applied Element Method (AEM). A high-fidelity numerical model of the building was developed according to the actual structural drawings. Several different collapse hypotheses were examined, considering both column failures and degradation scenarios. The analyses showed that the failure of deep beams at the pool deck level, directly connected to the perimeter columns of the building, could have led to the columns' failure and subsequent collapse of the eastern wing of the building. The simulated scenario highlights the different stages of the collapse sequence and appears to be consistent with what can be observed in the footage of the actual collapse. To improve the performance of the structure against progressive collapse, two modifications to the original design of the building were introduced. From the analyses, it was found that disconnecting the pool deck beam from the perimeter columns could have been effective in preventing the local collapse of the pool deck slab from propagating to the rest of the building. Moreover, these analyses indicate that enhancing the torsional strength and stiffness of the core could have prevented the collapse of the eastern part of the building, given the assumptions and initiation scenarios considered. Building catastrophic collapses can cause significant lives and economic losses. Poor design and maintenance, in combination with aging, will more likely increase, in the next years, the number of buildings potentially vulnerable to the risk of collapse, due to either seismic, accidental, or degradation actions. This research focuses on the analysis of the Champlain Tower South condo collapse, which occurred in Surfside, Florida, in 2021. Different hypothetical collapse scenarios were simulated, comparing the analysis results with the actual evidence of the collapse. The analyses have shown that the degradation of the pool deck slab, due to corrosion, may have contributed to the collapse of the building. Finally, two different minor revisions of the original design of the building were analyzed to reduce the risk of failure and understand how the collapse of similar residential buildings could be prevented. In this paper we discuss the types of knowledge used by six middle school students as they engaged with a debugging task designed to integrate ideas from computer science, mathematics and science. Our findings show that the computational thinking practice of debugging is a rich source of opportunities to integrate these different disciplines. The analysis illustrates how the types of knowledge the students did and did not use at each step of the debugging process were related to their ability to succeed at each step. Our work contributes to theory and practice by uncovering implications for studying debugging through two refined frameworks and for designing debugging tasks to support transdisciplinary learning. David A. Huffman (1925–1999) is best known in computer science for his work in information theory, particularly Huffman codes, and best known in origami as a pioneer of curved-crease folding. But during his early paper folding in the 1970s, he also designed and folded over a 100 different straight-crease origami tessellations. Unlike most origami tessellations designed in the past 20 years, Huffman's straight-crease tessellations are mostly three-dimensional, rigidly foldable, and have no locking mechanism. In collaboration with Huffman's family, our goal is to document all of his designs by reverse-engineering his models into the corresponding crease patterns, or in some cases, matching his models with his sketches of crease patterns. Electroencephalography (EEG) is a mechanism to understand the brain's functioning by analyzing brain electrical signals. More recently, it has been more commonly used in studies that are focused on the causation and effect of dementia. More tools are now available to gather EEG data. This brings about the challenge of understanding brain signals, which involves signal processing. Professionals with an electrical engineering background are very comfortable analyzing EEG data. Still, scientists in computer science and related fields need a source that can identify all the tools available and the process of analyzing the data. This paper deals specifically with the existing EEG data analysis tools and the processes involved in analyzing the EEG data using these tools. Furthermore, the paper goes in-depth into identifying the tools and the mechanisms of data processing techniques. In addition, it lists a set of definitions required for a better understanding of EEG data analysis, which can be challenging. The purpose of this paper is to serve as a reference for not only scientists that are new to EEG data analysis but also seasoned scientists that are looking for a specific data component in EEG and can go straight to the section of the paper that deals with the tool that they are using. The purpose of this study is to propose an improved credit allocation method that makes the leading author of the paper more distinguishable and makes the deification more robust under malicious manipulations. We utilize a modified Sigmoid function to handle the fat-tail distributed citation counts. We also remove the target paper in calculating the contribution of co-citations. Following previous studies, we use 30 Nobel Prize-winning papers and their citation networks based on the American Physical Society (APS) and the Microsoft Academic Graph (MAG) dataset to test the accuracy of our proposed method (NCCAS). In addition, we use 654,148 articles published in the field of computer science from 2000 to 2009 in the MAG dataset to validate the distinguishability and robustness of NCCAS. Compared with the state-of-the-art methods, NCCAS gives the most accurate prediction of Nobel laureates. Furthermore, the leading author of the paper identified by NCCAS is more distinguishable compared with other co-authors. The results by NCCAS are also more robust to malicious manipulation. Finally, we perform ablation studies to show the contribution of different components in our methods. Due to limited ground truth on the true leading author of a work, the accuracy of NCCAS and other related methods can only be tested in Nobel Physics Prize-winning papers. NCCAS is successfully applied to a large number of publications, demonstrating its potential in analyzing the relationship between the contribution and the recognition of authors with different by-line orders. Compared with existing methods, NCCAS not only identifies the leading author of a paper more accurately, but also makes the deification more distinguishable and more robust, providing a new tool for related studies. Aims: This article aims to perform a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) to better understand the structures of different methods, techniques, models, methodologies, and technologies related to provenance data management in health information systems (HISs). The SLR developed here seeks to answer the questions that contribute to describing the results. Method: An SLR was performed on six databases using a search string. The backward and forward snowballing technique was also used. Eligible studies were all articles in English that presented on the use of different methods, techniques, models, methodologies, and technologies related to provenance data management in HISs. The quality of the included articles was assessed to obtain a better connection to the topic studied. Results: Of the 239 studies retrieved, 14 met the inclusion criteria described in this SLR. In order to complement the retrieved studies, 3 studies were included using the backward and forward snowballing technique, totaling 17 studies dedicated to the construction of this research. Most of the selected studies were published as conference papers, which is common when involving computer science in HISs. There was a more frequent use of data provenance models from the PROV family in different HISs combined with different technologies, among which blockchain and middleware stand out. Despite the advantages found, the lack of technological structure, data interoperability problems, and the technical unpreparedness of working professionals are still challenges encountered in the management of provenance data in HISs. Conclusion: It was possible to conclude the existence of different methods, techniques, models, and combined technologies, which are presented in the proposal of a taxonomy that provides researchers with a new understanding about the management of provenance data in HISs. The present paper seeks to quantify the scholarly literature on Information Literacy (IL) during the last two decades by collecting data from the Scopus database from 2002 to 2021. The overall output includes 8769 records and 73181 citations. The average citation per paper is 10.81. "Communication in Computer and Information Science" was the most influential source among the titles for publishing research, with 386 papers. With 59 articles, Maria Pinto, affiliated with Granada University, has been named the most productive author. Lloyd has the most citations as well as the highest hindex. Purdue University and the University of Granada have been the most notable affiliations in institutional research production. This paper provides a survey of apparent personality trait analysis based on multimodal trait prediction and optimization of multimodal output parameters. This paper analyzes, synthesizes, and compares the development of different methods of Personality computing based on the personality trait analysis within the Big Five model (OCEAN model) and based on audio, visual and textual inputs. The results of the trait analysis and detection are different for different methods, from trait extracted from handwriting with an accuracy of 62-83%, trait extracted from with 56-62%, trait extracted from audio with 70%, trait extracted from visual element images and videos 87-91%, from aggregation function min and max 52 - 81%, mean and median 85%, and methods based on robustness and Huber function 72 - 77 %. Trait analysis is a problem with numerous real-life applications. Accurate trait recognition and analysis of various human traits are tasks that have been studied for a very long time in the field of psychology and lately represent an important area of study in the field of computer science and computing. The best results in the field of apparent personality trait analysis were achieved with convolutional neural networks. Multimodal trait prediction will give a better prediction than prediction based on a single modality, and optimization with aggregation functions and robust methods can achieve a better prediction of the models. Can free agency be compatible with determinism? Compatibilists argue that the answer is yes, and it has been suggested that the computer science principle of "computational irreducibility" sheds light on this compatibility. It implies that there cannot, in general, be shortcuts to predict the behavior of agents, explaining why deterministic agents often appear to act freely. In this paper, we introduce a variant of computational irreducibility that intends to capture more accurately aspects of actual (as opposed to apparent) free agency, including computational sourcehood, i.e., the phenomenon that the successful prediction of a process' behavior must typically involve an almost-exact representation of the relevant features of that process, regardless of the time it takes to arrive at the prediction. We argue that this can be understood as saying that the process itself is the source of its actions, and we conjecture that many computational processes have this property. The main contribution of this paper is technical, in that we analyze whether and how a sensible formal definition of computational sourcehood is possible. While we do not answer the question completely, we show how it is related to finding a particular simulation preorder on Turing machines, we uncover concrete stumbling blocks towards constructing such a definition, and demonstrate that structure-preserving (as opposed to merely simple or efficient) functions between levels of simulation play a crucial role. In recent years, cellular neural networks (CNNs) have become a popular apparatus for simulations in neuroscience, biology, medicine, computer sciences and engineering. In order to create more adequate models, researchers have considered memory effects, reaction–diffusion structures, impulsive perturbations, uncertain terms and fractional-order dynamics. The design, cellular aspects, functioning and behavioral aspects of such CNN models depend on efficient stability and control strategies. In many practical cases, the classical stability approaches are useless. Recently, in a series of papers, we have proposed several extended stability and control concepts that are more appropriate from the applied point of view. This paper is an overview of our main results and focuses on extended stability and control notions including practical stability, stability with respect to sets and manifolds and Lipschitz stability. We outline the recent progress in the stability and control methods and provide diverse mechanisms that can be used by the researchers in the field. The proposed stability techniques are presented through several types of impulsive and fractional-order CNN models. Examples are elaborated to demonstrate the feasibility of different technologies. Coauthorship prediction applies predictive analytics to bibliographic data to predict authors who are highly likely to be coauthors. In this study, we propose an approach for coauthorship prediction based on bibliographic network embedding through a graph‐based bibliographic data model that can be used to model common bibliographic data, including papers, terms, sources, authors, departments, research interests, universities, and countries. A real‐world dataset released by AMiner that includes more than 2 million papers, 8 million citations, and 1.7 million authors were integrated into a large bibliographic network using the proposed bibliographic data model. Translation‐based methods were applied to the entities and relationships to generate their low‐dimensional embeddings while preserving their connectivity information in the original bibliographic network. We applied machine learning algorithms to embeddings that represent the coauthorship relationships of the two authors and achieved high prediction results. The reference model, which is the combination of a network embedding size of 100, the most basic translation‐based method, and a gradient boosting method achieved an F1 score of 0.9 and even higher scores are obtainable with different embedding sizes and more advanced embedding methods. Neuronal models have remained an important area of research in computer science. The dendritic neuron model (DNM) is a novel neuronal model in recent years. Previous studies have focused on training DNM using more appropriate algorithms. This paper proposes an improvement to DNM based on the activity of excitation and proposes three new models. Each of the three improved models are designed to mimic the excitation and inhibition activity of neurons. The improved model proposed in this paper is shown to be effective in the experimental part. All three models and original DNM have their own strengths, so it can be considered that the new model proposed in this paper well enriches the diversity of neuronal models and contributes to future research on networks models. Motivated by analogous concepts in theoretical computer science, the concepts of simulation and bisimulation relations have recently been introduced in the study of the geometrictheory of nonlinear control systems. Simulation relations generalize such notions as trajectory propagation and trajectory lifting, while bisimulation relations generalize such notions as system equivalence and state-space reduction. This paper explores previously obtained necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of (bi)simulation relations and determines to what extent those relations can be maintained if inputs and disturbances are restricted to specified ‘admissible’ classes. We show how the results obtained here for general simulation relations extend prior results obtained for trajectory propagation and trajectory lifting. Cluster analysis is one of the most fundamental methods in data mining, and it has been widely used in economics, social sciences and computer science. However, with the rapid development of Internet technology, the volume of data required for various web applications has grown rapidly, making the traditional clustering analysis methods face technical challenges. How to obtain useful information in a large amount of data quickly and efficiently is an urgent problem in many industrial fields. With the continuous development of cloud computing technology, large amounts of data can be performed quickly and efficiently. Hadoop is an open source distributed cloud computing platform with HDFS (Digital File System) and MapReduce as its core. HDFS provides massive data storage, while MapReduce uses the MapReduce programming model to achieve parallel processing. Compared with the traditional parallel programming model, it contains basic functions such as data partitioning, task scheduling, and parallel processing, making it possible for users to develop distributed applications on their own without understanding the basics of distributed basics, thus facilitating the design of parallel programs. K-means algorithm is a typical clustering analysis method, which is widely used in industry, but the number of iterations will increase significantly due to the growth of data volume, thus reducing the efficiency of computation. In order to better apply to the cluster analysis of large-scale data, this paper firstly implements a parallelization algorithm based on MapReduce on Hadoop platform using the basic idea of MapReduce and improves the K-means algorithm for the problems of blindness and easy to fall into local optimum when selecting randomly in clusters. Although women's representation in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) employment has increased significantly over the past few decades, their presence remains low in fields like computer science. Using the National Science Foundation's Scientists and Engineers Statistical Data System (SESTAT), this paper assesses the factors shaping employment in STEM and non-STEM occupations among men and women with bachelor's degrees in computer science. Our results reveal that women with degrees in computer science are far less likely than their male counterparts to be employed in STEM occupations, particularly in computer science jobs. But family factors do not have the expected association with employment in computer science jobs. Men who are parents and childless women are more likely to work in non-STEM jobs versus computer science jobs, relative to childless men. Furthermore, the gender gap in employment in computer science jobs is larger among those graduating in the new millennium, suggesting that other factors are at play. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The evaluation of scientific journals poses challenges owing to the existence of various impact measures. This is because journal ranking is a multidimensional construct that may not be assessed effectively using a single metric such as an impact factor. A few studies have proposed an ensemble of metrics to prevent the bias induced by an individual metric. In this study, a multi-metric journal ranking method based on the standardized average index (SA index) was adopted to develop an extended standardized average index (ESA index). The ESA index utilizes six metrics: the CiteScore, Source Normalized Impact per Paper (SNIP), SCImago Journal Rank (SJR), Hirsh index (H-index), Eigenfactor Score, and Journal Impact Factor from three well-known databases (Scopus, SCImago Journal & Country Rank, and Web of Science). Experiments were conducted in two computer science subject areas: (1) artificial intelligence and (2) computer vision and pattern recognition. Comparing the results of the multi-metric-based journal ranking system with the SA index, it was demonstrated that the multi-metric ESA index exhibited high correlation with all other indicators and significantly outperformed the SA index. To further evaluate the performance of the model and determine the aggregate impact of bibliometric indices with the ESA index, we employed unsupervised machine learning techniques such as clustering coupled with principal component analysis (PCA) and t-distributed stochastic neighbor embedding (t-SNE). These techniques were utilized to measure the clustering impact of various bibliometric indicators on both the complete set of bibliometric features and the reduced set of features. Furthermore, the results of the ESA index were compared with those of other ranking systems, including the internationally recognized Scopus, SJR, and HEC Journal Recognition System (HJRS) used in Pakistan. The purpose of this paper is to commemorate the late scholar Loet Leydesdorff for his great academic contribution on the basis of data from Web of Science. In the span of more than 40 years, he had 526 publications, with the years 2004-2021 being the most productive (394 publications). His international collaborations spread widely across 36 countries, with Germany, the USA, the UK, China, Russia, and South Korea being the most significant. His most frequent collaboration partners included Lutz Bornmann (Germany), Staša Milojević (USA), Caroline Wagner (USA), Henry Etzkowitz (USA), Jonathan Adams (UK), Ronald Rousseau (Belgium), and Ping Zhou (China). With a broad and deep knowledge background, Leydesdorff's research extended across multiple disciplines and fields, but he was most active in library and information science and computer science. He made profound contributions to the study of bibliometrics, innovation systems (the Triple Helix model), and communications. Leydesdorff had a remarkable and extensive citation impact, with citations in 221 WoS subject categories from 120 countries. Given several number sequences, determining the longest common subsequence is a classical problem in computer science. This problem has applications in bioinformatics, especially determining transposable genes. Nevertheless, related works only consider how to find one longest common subsequence. In this paper, we consider how to determine the uniqueness of the longest common subsequence. If there are multiple longest common subsequences, we also determine which number appears in all/some/none of the longest common subsequences. We focus on four scenarios: (1) linear sequences without duplicated numbers; (2) circular sequences without duplicated numbers; (3) linear sequences with duplicated numbers; (4) circular sequences with duplicated numbers. The rise of the Internet and social media (i.e. reviews, forum discussions, blogs and social networks) constituted an interesting source to detect user opinion trends. This study examines the global publication output on opinion mining and sentiment analysis from documents published in 2000 to 2020. Bibliometric indicators on the trends, most cited papers, authors, institutions, countries, funding agencies and research subject areas were independently screened and analysed using bibliometrix package in R. A total of 7603 eligible documents were identified from 2000 to 2020. The total number of citations for all publications was 129,251, with an average of 17.0 citations per publication. About 14,629 authors wrote those documents with 1.93 authors per document and a collaboration index of 1.98. The most prolific author was Cambria Erik, with 47 publications and h-index of 42. The leading countries for research were China with n = 824, India with n = 576 and the United States with n = 244 publications. Lecture Notes in Computer Science proceedings was the top-ranked venue for publications with n = 434, h-index of 32 and 4598 total citation scores. National Natural Science Foundation of China was the top-ranked funding agency for research, and most of the publications were computer science (n = 6320) documents. The study provides an in-depth assessment of the landmark of the hot research topic and acknowledges the contribution of the most productive and active authors across different countries in the world. The new way of thinking science from Newtonian determinism to nonlinear unpredictability and the dawn of advanced computer science and technology can be summarized in the words of the theoretical physicist Michel Baranger, who, in 2000, said in a conference: "Twenty-first-century theoretical physics is coming out of the chaos revolution; it will be about complexity and its principal tool will be the computer.". This can be extended to natural sciences in general. Modelling and predicting ionosphere variables have been considered since many decades as a paramount objective of research by scientists and engineers. The new approach to natural sciences influenced also ionosphere research. Ionosphere as a part of the solar–terrestrial environment is recognized to be a complex chaotic system, and its study under this new way of thinking should become an important area of ionospheric research. After discussing the new context, this paper will try to review recent advances in the exploration of ionosphere parameter time series in terms of chaos theory and the use of machine-learning algorithms. What is computational explanation? Many accounts treat it as a kind of causal explanation. I argue against two more specific versions of this view, corresponding to two popular treatments of causal explanation. The first holds that computational explanation is mechanistic, while the second holds that it is interventionist. However, both overlook an important class of computational explanations, which I call limitative explanations. Limitative explanations explain why certain problems cannot be solved computationally, either in principle or in practice. I argue that limitative explanations are not plausibly understood in either mechanistic or interventionist terms. One upshot of this argument is that there are causal and non-causal kinds of computational explanation. In this paper, we study quantum Ordered Binary Decision Diagrams(OBDD ) model; it is a restricted version of read-once quantum branching programs, with respect to "width" complexity. It is known that the maximal gap between deterministic and quantum complexities is exponential. But there are few examples of functions with such a gap. We present a new technique ("reordering") for proving lower bounds and upper bounds for OBDD with an arbitrary order of input variables if we have similar bounds for the natural order. Using this transformation, we construct a total function REQ such that the deterministic OBDD complexity of it is at least 2 Ω (n / log n) , and the quantum OBDD complexity of it is at most O (n 2 / log n) . It is the biggest known gap for explicit functions not representable by OBDD s of a linear width. Another function(shifted equality function) allows us to obtain a gap 2 Ω (n) vs O (n 2) . Moreover, we prove the bounded error quantum and probabilistic OBDD width hierarchies for complexity classes of Boolean functions. Additionally, using "reordering" method we extend a hierarchy for read-k-times Ordered Binary Decision Diagrams ( k - OBDD ) of polynomial width, for k = o (n / log 3 n) . We prove a similar hierarchy for bounded error probabilistic k - OBDD s of polynomial, superpolynomial and subexponential width. This article argues that existing approaches to programming ethical AI fail to resolve a serious moral-semantic trilemma, generating interpretations of ethical requirements that are either too semantically strict, too semantically flexible, or overly unpredictable. This paper then illustrates the trilemma utilizing a recently proposed 'general ethical dilemma analyzer,' GenEth. Finally, it uses empirical evidence to argue that human beings resolve the semantic trilemma using general cognitive and motivational processes involving 'mental time-travel,' whereby we simulate different possible pasts and futures. I demonstrate how mental time-travel psychology leads us to resolve the semantic trilemma through a six-step process of interpersonal negotiation and renegotiation, and then conclude by showing how comparative advantages in processing power would plausibly cause AI to use similar processes to solve the semantic trilemma more reliably than we do, leading AI to make better moral-semantic choices than humans do by our very own lights. Fair division of indivisible items is a well-studied topic in Economics and Computer Science. The objective is to allocate items to agents in a fair manner, where each agent has a valuation for each subset of items. Envy-freeness is one of the most widely studied notions of fairness. Since complete envy-free allocations do not always exist when items are indivisible, several relaxations have been considered. Among them, possibly the most compelling one is envy-freeness up to any item (EFX), where no agent envies another agent after the removal of any single item from the other agent's bundle. However, despite significant efforts by many researchers for several years, it is known that a complete EFX allocation always exists only in limited cases. In this paper, we show that a complete EFX allocation always exists when each agent is of one of two given types, where agents of the same type have identical additive valuations. This is the first such existence result for non-identical valuations when there are any number of agents and items and no limit on the number of distinct values an agent can have for individual items. We give a constructive proof, in which we iteratively obtain a Pareto dominating (partial) EFX allocation from an existing partial EFX allocation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper proposes a new string transformation technique called Move with Interleaving (MwI). Four possible ways of rearranging 2D raster images into 1D sequences of values are applied, including scan-line, left-right, strip-based, and Hilbert arrangements. Experiments on 32 benchmark greyscale raster images of various resolutions demonstrated that the proposed transformation reduces information entropy to a similar extent as the combination of the Burrows–Wheeler transform followed by the Move-To-Front or the Inversion Frequencies. Handwriting recognition and analysis has been an active area of research in the last two decades. Handwriting analysis is being studied in various fields of science, such as graphology, neurology, psychology, and computer science. Furthermore, automated handwriting analysis has several applications, including forensic, security, medical, and disease prediction. This paper presents the most recent handwriting analysis techniques and advancements available in the literature for age and gender classification/detection. Different steps, including feature extraction and classification, frequently used in the literature for age and gender detection, are discussed, and the presented works are classified according to the applied feature extraction and classification methods. The online and offline benchmark databases are also reviewed. We used a text mining technique to perform a quantitative content analysis of the presented research and better understand the co-occurrence network diagrams of age and gender classification/detection. Inverting a matrix is time-consuming, and many works focus on accelerating the inversion of a single large matrix by GPU. However, the problem of parallelizing the inversion of a large number of small matrices has received little attention. These problems are widely applied in computer science, including accelerating cryptographic algorithms and image processing algorithms. In this paper, we propose a Revised In-Place Inversion algorithm for inverting a large number of small matrices on the CUDA platform, which adopts a more refined parallelization scheme and outperforms other algorithms, achieving a speedup of up to 20.9572 times over the batch matrix inverse kernel in CUBLAS. Additionally, we found that there is an upper bound on the input data size for each GPU device, and the performance will degrade if the input data size is too large. Therefore, we propose the Saturation Size Curve based on this finding to divide matrices into batches and improve the algorithm performance. Experimental results show that this strategy increases the algorithm's performance by 1.75 times and effectively alleviates the problem of performance degradation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Automated generation of image captions is a demanding AI crisis as it necessitates the exploitation of numerous methods from diverse computer science fields. Deep learning (DL) approaches have revealed marvelous results in a lot of diverse appliances. On the other hand, data augmentation in DL that imitates the quantity and the variety of training data without the need of gathering additional data is a hopeful area in machine learning (ML). Producing textual descriptions for a specified image is a demanding task using the computer. This survey makes a critical analysis of about 65 papers regarding image captioning. More particularly, varied performance measures that are contributed in diverse articles are analyzed. In addition, a comprehensive study is made regarding the maximal performances and varied features deployed in each work. Moreover, chronological analysis and dataset analysis are done and finally, the survey extends with the determination of varied research challenges, which might be productive for the analysts to endorse enhanced upcoming works on image captioning. The Robin sequence is a congenital anomaly characterized by a triad of features: micrognathia, glossoptosis, and airway obstruction. This comprehensive historical review maps the evolution of approaches and appliances for its treatment from the past to the current modern possibilities of an interdisciplinary combination of modern engineering, medicine, materials, and computer science combined approach with emphasis on designing appliances inspired by nature and individual human anatomy. Current biomimetic designs are clinically applied, resulting in appliances that are more efficient, comfortable, sustainable, and safer than legacy traditional designs. This review maps the treatment modalities that have been used for patients with a Robin sequence over the years. Early management of the Robin sequence focused primarily on airway maintenance and feeding support, while current management strategies involve both nonsurgical and surgical interventions and biomimetic biocompatible personalized appliances. This paper proposes a deep learning approach for solving non-smooth convex optimization problems (NCOPs), which have broad applications in computer science, engineering, and physics. Our approach combines neurodynamic optimization with physics-informed neural networks (PINNs) to provide an efficient and accurate solution. We first use neurodynamic optimization to formulate an initial value problem (IVP) that involves a system of ordinary differential equations for the NCOP. We then introduce a modified PINN as an approximate state solution to the IVP. Finally, we develop a dedicated algorithm to train the model to solve the IVP and minimize the NCOP objective simultaneously. Unlike existing numerical integration methods, a key advantage of our approach is that it does not require the computation of a series of intermediate states to produce a prediction of the NCOP. Our experimental results show that this computational feature results in fewer iterations being required to produce more accurate prediction solutions. At the University of Pécs (Hungary) mathematics courses are the basis for programs such as engineering and computer science. An online question bank was developed for university students to practice mathematical problem-solving and to use for exam assignments. Computer-aided test and assessment is widely used to support the teaching and learning of mathematics. In the research some aspects of question design were asked about the new possibilities of randomizing the question:: 1. What type of randomization is useful to introduce, and what are the limits of randomization? 2. Why is it sometimes so dangerous, what are the benefits, and what are the limits of it? 3. What type of math problems can be solved using random variables? 4. How can we ensure equal difficulty for the variation of questions? Digital false information is a global problem and the European Union (EU) has taken profound actions to counter it. However, from an academic perspective the United States has attracted particular attention. This article aims at mapping the current state of academic inquiry into false information at scale in the EU across fields. Systematic filtering of academic contributions resulted in the identification of 93 papers. We found that Italy is the most frequently studied country, and the country of affiliation for most contributing authors. The fields that are best represented are computer science and information studies, followed by social science, communication, and media studies. Based on the review, we call for (1) a greater focus on cross-platform studies; (2) resampling of similar events, such as elections, to detect reoccurring patterns; and (3) longitudinal studies across events to detect similarities, for instance, in who spreads misinformation. Artificial intelligence (AI) is a subfield of computer science that aims to implement computer systems that perform tasks that generally require human learning, reasoning, and perceptual abilities. AI is widely used in the medical field. The interpretation of medical images requires considerable effort, time, and skill. AI-aided interpretations, such as automated abnormal lesion detection and image classification, are promising areas of AI. However, when images with different characteristics are extracted, depending on the manufacturer and imaging environment, a so-called domain shift problem occurs in which the developed AI has a poor versatility. Domain adaptation is used to address this problem. Domain adaptation is a tool that generates a newly converted image which is suitable for other domains. It has also shown promise in reducing the differences in appearance among the images collected from different devices. Domain adaptation is expected to improve the reading accuracy of AI for heterogeneous image distributions in gastrointestinal (GI) endoscopy and medical image analyses. In this paper, we review the history and basic characteristics of domain shift and domain adaptation. Students in their first year of computer science (CS1) at universities typically struggle to grasp fundamental programming concepts. This paper discusses research carried out using a Java-based visual execution environment (VEE) to introduce fundamental programming concepts to CS1 students. The VEE guides beginner programmers through the fundamentals of programming, utilizing visual metaphors to explain and direct interactive tasks implemented in Java. The study's goal was to determine if the use of the VEE in the instruction of a group of 63 CS1 students from four different groups enrolled in two academic institutions (based in Madrid, Spain and Galway, Ireland) results in an improvement in their grasp of fundamental programming concepts. The programming concepts covered included those typically found in an introductory programming course, e.g., input and output, conditionals, loops, functions, arrays, recursion, and files. A secondary goal of this research was to examine if the use of the VEE enhances students' understanding of particular concepts more than others, i.e., whether there exists a topic-dependent benefit to the use of the VEE. The results of the study found that use of the VEE in the instruction of these students resulted in a significant improvement in their grasp of fundamental programming concepts compared with a control group who received instruction without the use of the VEE. The study also found a pronounced improvement in the students' grasp of particular concepts (e.g., operators, conditionals, and loops), suggesting the presence of a topic-dependent benefit to the use of the VEE. Image recognition based on computers is something human beings have been working on for many years. It is one of the most difficult tasks in the field of computer science, and improvements to this system are made when we speak. In this paper, we propose a methodology to automatically propose an appropriate title and add a specific sound to the image. Two models have been extensively trained and combined to achieve this effect. Sounds are recommended based on the image scene and the headings are generated using a combination of natural language processing and state-of-the-art computer vision models. A Top 5 accuracy of 67% and a Top 1 accuracy of 53% have been achieved. It is also worth mentioning that this is also the first model of its kind to make this forecast. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
