This paper analyzes to which extent research published in Computer Standards & Interfaces (CSI) has a technical focus. We find that CSI has been following its scope very closely in the last three years and that the majority of its publications have a technical focus. Articles published in CSI constantly cite research from various technical disciplines, but there are also a limited number of references to non-technical literature. Mostly technical journals cite CSI papers, with a few exceptions of non-technical journals. We conclude that CSI stays within its scope of computer standards and interfaces interpreted in a technical sense. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The year 2012 marks the twenty-fifth anniversary of BA framework for information systems architecture,[ written by John Zachman and published in the IBM Systems Journal. The first part of this paper reviews the Zachman and similar frameworks and concludes that there are a number of limitations in the framework approach when applied to today's technology environment and business problems. These include the inability of the problem owner to properly describe a solution, the partitioning approach, and the decision-making processes in the context of uncertainty and change. The second part of this paper analyzes today's problems and allocates them to one of three classifications: tame, complex, and wicked, depending on the degree of certainty and stability of knowledge and decisions in both the problem and the solution domains. The final part outlines an approach to problem-solving and architecture development using techniques borrowed from cybernetics and control theory. It proposes that partitioning should be determined by the nature of the problem and potential solutions; that feedback loops should be implemented in order to control the process; that the architect should work across the business problem and solution spaces; and that decisions should be related to business value. This special section of IEEE Transactions on Computers presents some of the latest research developments in the field of adaptive hardware and systems. The creation of this section was motivated by lively discussions held at the annual NASA/ESA Adaptive Hardware and Systems (AHS) conference, which showed a need for such special section at a top ranked journal. At the end of a rigorous review process, ten papers were selected for publication from a set of high quality submissions consisting of regular papers and extended papers from the AHS 2012 conference proceedings. The 15th ACM SIGPLAN International Conference on Functional Programming (ICFP) took place on September 27–29, 2010 in Baltimore, Maryland. After the conference, the programme committee, chaired by Stephanie Weirich, selected several outstanding papers and invited their authors to submit to this special issue of Journal of Functional Programming. Umut A. Acar and James Cheney acted as editors for these submissions. This issue includes the seven accepted papers, each of which provides substantial new material beyond the original conference version. The selected papers reflect a consensus by the program committee that ICFP 2010 had a number of strong papers that link core functional programming ideas with other areas, such as multicore, embedded systems, and data compression. The development of agent technologies for sensor networks has received increasing research attention within both the sensor network and multi-agent systems research communities.
