This study investigates the extent of publication output and functional areas of Library and Information Science (LIS) professionals. The research has been undertaken based on the primary data collected from the LIS professionals working in the various eight-state universities in Kerala, India. The population of the study consists of two hundred and sixty-six regular LIS professionals. The Census method was used for the collection of data. A questionnaire was designed and used as the instrument for extracting publication output and the relevant data. Based on the data analysis, the results show that the highest mean score for the publications of LIS professionals is in the conference papers followed by journal articles. It was also observed that the main primary functional area of most LIS professionals is in the circulation section, followed by the maintenance section and reference section. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This research paper aims to explore the Methods used for Implementing Knowledge Management in the University Libraries of North. The methods outline the different methods of implementing KM in libraries and this paper seeks to know about the procedures to be followed for implementing KM, LIS professional's level of awareness about KM, benefits of implementation KM and the obstacles faced by LIS professionals during KM execution. A total of 280 LIS professionals working in 20 select state universities were approached for the collection of data. In order to obtain a large and representative sample of LIS professionals, stratified random sampling is being used. The study was delimited to the 20 Government state universities (having all disciplines) and listed on the University Grants Commission's website (Govt. of India) and comes under the northern region of India. The main libraries of the universities were covered in the study, whereas departmental libraries were excluded. It has been found that there was no significant difference regarding the awareness of KM between the Professional Assistants and the rest of the LIS professionals. It has been also noted that LIS professionals assumed that the major benefit of KM implementation that it helped to improve library services & operations. Furthermore, the major barriers to the implementation of KM are lack of training, lack of rewards / incentives for innovative performance, lack of human resources, lack of knowledge sharing culture, hesitation to adopt the change by LIS professionals and misunderstanding about the knowledge management on the part of the library staff to incorporate knowledge management practices. Purpose - The purpose of this paper is to promote and share the research output of Bennett University (BU), India through Digital Repository Services (DRSs). It aims at encouraging, assisting and accelerating the research fraternity of the university. Design/methodology/approach -- This paper explains about the initiatives adopted by the LRC at BU for developing DRS using open-space software, Dspace for long-term preservation of intellectual assets and increase the visibility of the institute in global landscape. Findings -- DRS at BU was developed with an aim to preserve and disseminate the intellectual assets of BU, encourage budding talents and increase BU's visibility in global landscape. Despite the constraints at the experimental phase, DRS at BU collected over 707 publications (October 2021) and the number is ever increasing. Though there were some initial glitches before and after the implementation process but keeping a flexible approach, LRC will continue mapping solutions for BU. Purpose: This paper makes a broad investigation on the libraries of universities in Gujarat, India. The paper features the job of library experts in checking book robbery, mutilation, vandalism, and planning strategy to control and beat the issue in scholastic libraries. This examination additionally explores the security challenges in the libraries of universities. The investigation expects to distinguish the causes and defenselessness of book burglary, mutilation and vandalism and the weakness of library arrangements and safety efforts. Methodology: The examination depends on information got through the dispersion of survey in the colleges of Gujarat to know the present circumstance of library and the familiarity with library experts in regards to human/man-made security. Practical implications: The important result in this study is that the enough text books is required to reduce the theft. Library have to change the rules of circulation and increase the loan period for books. The main focus of the present research study reports on the information services, status of library building, sections and infrastructure facilities in selected Government Degree Colleges Libraries of North Costal Andhra Pradesh, India. Out of the 15 libraries studied, 10 do not have a separate building for library and they are housed either in administrative or part of class rooms. The degree college libraries of Srikakulam district have reported with adequate furniture, space for users, seating accommodation and toilet facilities. To understand the services offered to the users under the information services are studied-the reference services, question papers services and news paper clipping services are reported in all the studied 15 libraries. With the creative advocacy of inclusion in every aspect of the society, Social Inclusion is now a universal concept and inclusivity in the library is no exception. An inclusive Library is an important element for an inclusive education and thereby, an inclusive society. Accessibility is the key concern when it comes to inclusion in the library. This study focuses on the various issues of accessibilities in selected academic libraries located in the North Eastern Region of India. This topic seems to be an underexplored study, especially in this region of the country. Therefore, it is high time to create a serious awareness about the importance of an inclusive library that supports the students with special needs in their quest for information and higher education. With this goal, the present study was undertaken to draw attention of the scientific community to the existing gaps in the library services to its users with special needs, especially in higher learning. This paper highlights the initial findings of a research study on the academic libraries in sixteen selected central institutes located in the North Eastern region of India, regarding their services to the persons with special needs. Various accessibility measures based on standard recommendations were studied to have a holistic approach towards inclusivity in these libraries. The study revealed the various barriers and constraints to accessibility and found that a proper framework of policy and a proper funding may well be the main solution in overcoming barriers to accessibility for this group of special people in their quest for knowledge. This paper, a part of author's doctoral research, examines the various e-resources to which the users of Agricultural Universities in India have access and how frequently these resources are being used by the agricultural scientists, researchers, students. Data collected through a structured questionnaire from 242 users and 20 Librarians from 20 State run Agricultural Universities in India constitute the database for the present investigation. Purpose: Open source software is used widely across different continents though its adoption in libraries depend upon varioius factors. Type of library, availability of staff, qualification and skill sets of the librarian and other staff, support of the management, library budget, time availability, independence to the librarian are just some of the factors that may determine adoption of open source software. This paper tries to understand if gender of the librarian also has any significant impact on adoption of open source software. Design/Methodology/Approach: This study is conducted in India focusing on libraries of the private management education institutions in the Noida and Ghaziabad of the Uttar Pradesh, a state of India. Data is collected using Google Forms. After normalization of data, analyis of the data is conducted using SPSS 18 version after conducting reliability analysis on the major vaiables for reliability of the data. The sample is chosen due to very large number and different types of educational institutions providing management education in this geographical area. Findings: This study confirms that more and more libraries are adopting open source software now however adoption rate of open source software among female libraries is lesser. It is evident from the study women are not lagging behind due to qualification or skill sets but their other responsibilities i.e. family responsibilities cause work-life imbalance and hence they do not take much risks and try to adjust in pre-defined boundaries. Survey results also indicate if employer provides risk free environment to female librarians then adoption of open source software may become faster. Academic libraries play a key role in encouraging literacy and cultural interest in students, staff and the community. In the present-day world, theft and vandalism has become very common and a severe problem in academic college libraries. This research paper mainly deals with work of the library professionals in investigating the book theft, vandalism, mutilation activities, and planning polices to control these malicious activities. A structured online questionnaire was prepared for the college librarians to the gather data for the research study. The research data was collected from forty library professionals. Insufficient copies of text books are the main cause for vandalism agreed upon by the majority 85% of the respondents. 80% of the library professionals mentioned to have CCTV installation which can reduce malpractices in the libraries As per the research study 100% of respondents agree that by conducting orientation program, checking the requirements of the patrons, providing the necessary resources required by them, by using wire mesh for windows and having a single way for entry and exit will help in combating vandalistic activities in the academic libraries. Introduction-This paper discussed the need of performance audit through LibQUAL+ technique in University Library users in West Bengal, India. LibQUAL+ Technique is developed by Association of Research Libraries (ARL) in the year 2000. It is a suite of services that libraries use to solicit, track, understand, and act upon users' opinions of service quality. In this paper, an attempt has been made to measure the performance of Burdwan University Library and Visva-Bharati Library Users through LibQUAL+ technique. Comparative study of each dimension that is Library as a Place (LP), Information Control (IC) and Affect of Service (AS), Adequacy Gap (AG), Superiority Gap (SG) and Zone of Tolerance has been determined. This technique has been applied to know what library users saying about the performance of the library. Methods-To conduct of this study a large variety of data-gathering and analysis techniques have been adopted such as surveys, interviews, observations, etc. of the users of both the libraries. Findings-Visva-Bharati Library (VBL) performs better in all respect than Burdwan University Library (BUL) specially overall library performance of VBL (3.20 mean score) where as BUL (3.34 mean score) in West Bengal, India. Suggestions-Library authority should concentrate whether minimum service levels are available to users, what their desired service levels are but what they are getting (perceived) at this moment. Faculty, scholars and students opinion (feedback & suggestions) regarding library services have to take regular interval i.e. quarterly, half-yearly or yearly. In a digital era, library professionals are not only responsible for efficient transaction services but also act as custodian of materials in all forms. With the constraints of funding, more and more librarians are relying on different technological advances such as Electronic Security Systems (ESSs) to provide security to library materials, buildings, and premises. The present paper uses survey methodology to assess the perception of library professionals especially librarians of select libraries of Northern India on the different ESSs such as Radio Frequency Identification (RFID), Closed-circuit television (CCTV), Biometric and Burglar system, and the related applications, benefits, and problems. The work highlighted that most of the libraries are relying on technology such as RFID or Electro-Magnetic (EM) Tags and Surveillance System than Biometric and Burglar for the security of library materials. Purpose -The purpose of this paper is to investigate the present status of RFID application, benefits realised after implementing RFID, problems faced during RFID adoption and its implementation in the libraries and information centres of Northern India. Design/methodology/approach - The survey method of research was adopted in this research. In order to assess the required information about the implementation of RFID technology from the librarian/Incharge of the library of the nine selected institutions of Northern India, the data was collected through a questionnaire method. Moreover, the respondents were also interviewed to obtain more information. Findings - The present study shows that all the selected libraries in Northern India are in the initial stages of RFID implementation and they are realizing the benefits of its implementation which include reduction in queue at circulation desk /counter, extended hours of circulation without additional staff, library collection has become more secure, etc. At the same time, library staff is facing some problems with the use of RFID technology. Research limitations/implications - The present study is limited to the Central, State and Deemed universities recognised by the UGC and IITs situated in Northern region of India which have implemented RFID in their libraries. Further, due to time and cost restrictions, it was not possible to cover all type of institutions. Practical implications - It is hoped that the outcome of the present study will give some useful suggestions/recommendations to the librarians who have implemented RFID technology in terms of its better utilisation and at the same time, it will also help the librarians who want to implement RFID system in their libraries. Social implications - Across the world, university libraries are increasingly adopting and implementing RFID solutions to provide better and efficient library services such as self checkout/check-in of library materials, security of library books and efficient tracking of library materials throughout the library. As a small number of libraries in India have introduced RFID, it is high time to study the application of RFID technology in libraries, keeping in view its problems and benefits. This paper determines the materials cited in Ph.D. theses of Sociology, submitted to the Panjab University, Chandigarh during the years 2002-2012 to improve the existing collection development policy of University library. The study reveals that Books are the most preferred sources of information used by the researchers in the field of Sociology, accounting for 57.65% of the total citations, although citations from journals, proceedings, internet resources and reports are also found. It is also observed those researchers are not taking much advantage of internet resources. Bradford's law of scattering was applied. More cited materials were contributed by single authors and degree of collaboration of books was calculated as 0.28 and the degree of collaboration of authors in cited journal articles were calculated as 0.35. In this paper I studied the status and usage of library resources and services and library use opinion about library working hours, library physical facilities, library information sources and service of K L (Koneru Lakshmaiah Educational Foundation) University, Vijayawada. The collection development, library membership, staff position, working hours, library automation, services offered and availability of online resources are also discussed. A well structured questionnaire was managed to 300 faculty members, Research scholars and post graduation students to collect the primary data from respondents. A total number of 270 filled in questionnaires were received showing overall response rate of counterproductive to evaluate library users.
