The airborne and satellite-based synthetic aperture radar enables the acquisition of high-resolution SAR oceanographic images in which even the outlines of ships can be identified. The detection of ship targets from SAR images has a wide range of applications. Due to the density of ships in SAR images, the extreme imbalance between foreground and background clutter, and the diversity of target sizes, achieving lightweight and highly accurate multi-scale ship target detection remains a great challenge. To this end, this paper proposed an attention mechanism for multi-scale receptive fields convolution block (AMMRF). AMMRF not only makes full use of the location information of the feature map to accurately capture the regions in the feature map that are useful for detection results, but also effectively captures the relationship between the feature map channels, so as to better learn the relationship between the ship and the background. Based on this, a new YOLOv7-based ship target detection method, You Only Look Once SAR Ship Identification (YOLO-SARSI), was proposed, which acquires the abstract semantic information extracted from the high-level convolution while retaining the detailed semantic information extracted from the low-level convolution. Compared to the deep learning detection methods proposed by previous authors, our method is more lightweight, only 18.43 M. We examined the effectiveness of our method on two SAR image public datasets: the High-Resolution SAR Images Dataset (HRSID) and the Large-Scale SAR Ship Detection Dataset-v1.0 (LS-SSDD-V1.0). The results show that the average accuracy ( A P 50 ) of the detection method YOLO-SARSI proposed in this paper on the HRSID and LS-SSDD-V1.0 datasets is 2.6% and 3.9% higher than that of YOLOv7, respectively. The spaceborne high-resolution and wide-swath synthetic aperture radar (HRWS-SAR) system combined with the ground moving target indication (GMTI) mode provides a promising prospect in the realization of wide-area target surveying and high-resolution target imaging. In this paper, a system design method is proposed for an HRWS-SAR-GMTI system with ideal reconstruction configuration. In the proposed method, the whole azimuth receiving channels are uniformly divided into multiple groups, where HRWS-SAR imaging is implemented in each sub-group and then GMTI processing is performed based on the reconstructed SAR images. Then, an optimal candidate PRF is properly selected with respect to the optimal reconstruction configuration. After that, the digital beam forming scanning on receive (DBF-SCORE) technique is applied to further enlarge the range swath and improve the noise equivalent scattering coefficient (NESZ). SAR image target recognition relies heavily on a large number of annotated samples, making it difficult to classify the unseen class targets. Due to the lack of effective category auxiliary information, the current zero-shot target recognition methods for SAR images are limited to inferring only one unseen class rather than classifying multiple unseen classes. To address this issue, a conditional generative network with the category features from the simulated images for zero-shot SAR target recognition is proposed in this paper. Firstly, the deep features are extracted from the simulated images and fused into the category features that characterize the entire class. Then, a conditional VAE-GAN network is constructed to generate the feature instances of the unseen classes. The high-level semantic information shared in the category features aids in generalizing the mapping learned from the seen classes to the unseen classes. Finally, the generated features of the unseen classes are used to train a classifier that can classify the real unseen images. The classification accuracies for the targets of the three unseen classes based on the proposed method can reach 99.80 ± 1.22% and 71.57 ± 2.28% with the SAMPLE dataset and the MSTAR dataset, respectively. The advantage and validity of the proposed architecture are indicated with a small number of the seen classes and a small amount of the training data. High-resolution wide-swath (HRWS) imaging is the research focus of the modern spaceborne synthetic-aperture radar (SAR) imaging field, with significant relevance and vast application potential. Staggered SAR, as an innovative imaging system, mitigates blind areas across the entire swath by periodically altering the radar pulse repetition interval (PRI), thereby extending the swath width to multiples of that achievable by conventional systems. However, the staggered mode introduces inherent challenges, such as nonuniform azimuth sampling and echo data loss, leading to azimuth ambiguities and substantially impacting image quality. This paper proposes a sparse SAR imaging method for the low-oversampled staggered mode via compound regularization. The proposed method not only effectively suppresses azimuth ambiguities arising from nonuniform sampling without necessitating the restoration of missing echo data, but also incorporates total variation (TV) regularization into the sparse reconstruction model. This enhances the accurate reconstruction of distributed targets within the scene. Operating mode identification is an important prerequisite for precise deceptive jamming technology against synthetic aperture radar (SAR). In order to solve the problems of traditional spaceborne SAR operating mode identification, such as low identification accuracy, poor timeliness, and limitation to main lobe reconnaissance, an efficient identification method based on sidelobe reconnaissance and machine learning is proposed in this paper. It can identify four classical SAR operating modes, including stripmap, scan, spotlight and ground moving target indication (GMTI). Firstly, the signal models of different operating modes are presented from the perspective of sidelobe reconnaissance. By setting the parameters differently, such as the SAR trajectory height, antenna length, transmit/receive gain and loss, signal–noise ratio, and so on, the feature samples based on multiple parameters can be obtained, respectively. Then, based on the generated database of feature samples, the initialized neural network can be pre-trained. As a result, in practice, with the intercepted sidelobe signal and the pre-trained network, we can precisely infer the SAR operating mode before the arrival of the main lobe beam footprint. Finally, the effect of SNR and the jammer's position on the identification accuracy is experimentally detailed in the simulation. For a single-channel spaceborne synthetic aperture radar (SAR), the usage of a low pulse repetition frequency (PRF) is an effective technical way to extend the range swath. The sub-aperture imaging strategy is usually used to solve the problem of azimuth spectrum aliasing under the condition of a low PRF. However, the required up-sampling processing before the coherent synthesis of sub-images will lead to spectrum discontinuity between adjacent sub-images, which leads to an obvious grating lobe phenomenon after the process of sub-image synthesis, resulting in a significant decrease in image quality. For this issue, a high-resolution wide-swath (HRWS) imaging algorithm for a spaceborne SAR with a low PRF is proposed in this paper based on optimal spectrum shift processing. First, each sub-aperture is imaged using the typical range migration algorithm (RMA), and then all sub-images are up-sampled at the same time. Then, based on the criterion of the minimum grating lobe, the optimal spectrum shift is estimated. Finally, the spectrum of all sub-images is shifted and then all the shifted sub-images are synthesized coherently. General synthetic aperture radar (SAR) image automatic target recognition (ATR) methods perform well under standard operation conditions (SOCs). However, they are not effective in extended operation conditions (EOCs). To improve the robustness of the ATR system under various EOCs, an ATR method for SAR images based on the scattering parameter Gaussian mixture model (GMM) is proposed in this paper. First, an improved active contour model (ACM) is used for target–background segmentation, which is more robust against noise than the constant false alarm rate (CFAR) method. Then, as the extracted attributed scattering center (ASC) is sensitive to noise and resolution, the GMM is constructed using the extracted ASC set. Next, the weighted Gaussian quadratic form distance (WGQFD) is adopted to measure the similarity of GMMs for the recognition task, thereby avoiding false alarms and missed alarms caused by the varying number of scattering centers. Moreover, adaptive aspect–frame division is employed to reduce the number of templates and improve recognition efficiency. Finally, based on the public measured MSTAR dataset, different EOCs are constructed under noise, resolution change, model change, depression angle change, and occlusion of different proportions. Quasi-continuous wave radar is an attempt to give consideration to the performance of pulse and continuous wave radar signals. However, it also has the shortcomings of both. This paper aims to add a new quasi-continuous-wave coding method to the spaceborne synthetic aperture radar (SAR) system. The technology of improving spaceborne SAR imaging performance by coding quasi-continuous-wave pulses is studied, and some shortcomings of this algorithm are improved. Firstly, the application of quasi-continuous-wave radar in the SAR system is studied, and the coding and reconstruction scheme is provided so that this technology can be successfully applied in spaceborne SAR. Secondly, the effects of different quasi-continuous-wave coding methods on SAR imaging performance are evaluated, including signal-to-noise ratio, resolution, and integration time. Then, several coding schemes are given, and the characteristic changes of the signal after quasi-continuous-wave coding are analyzed. The transmit–receive conversion loss function and azimuth Doppler ambiguity function of the design scheme are analyzed, which proves the advantages of the scheme. The multiple-input multiple-output synthetic aperture radar (MIMO SAR) system has developed rapidly since its discovery. At the same time, the low-disturbance and high-gain requirements of the MIMO system are continuing to increase. Through the application of digital beamforming (DBF) techniques, the multidimensional waveform encoding (MWE) technique can play a key role in MIMO systems, which can greatly improve the system's performance, especially the multi-mission capability of radar. Intrapulse beamsteering in elevation is a typical form of multi-dimensional waveform encoding which can greatly improve the transmitting efficiency and multi-mission performance of radar. However, because of the high sensitivity of the DBF technique to height, there is significant deterioration in performance in the presence of terrain undulations. The OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) technique is widely used in communication. Due to the similarity of radar and communication systems and the great waveform diversity of OFDM signals, the OFDM radar has recently begun to emerge as a new radar system, simultaneously, the orthogonality of OFDM signals is in the time and frequency domains, and is not affected by terrain undulation. So, this paper proposes a novel radar mode combining intrapulse beamsteering in elevation and OFDM-Chirp signals, that is, the combination of "beam orthogonality" and "waveform orthogonality", which can greatly improve the performance and fault tolerance to interference signals. In this manuscript, the system working mode and signal processing flow are introduced in detail, and simulations for both point targets and distributed targets are carried out to verify the feasibility of the proposed mode. High resolution remains a primary goal in the advancement of synthetic aperture radar (SAR) technology. The backprojection (BP) algorithm, which does not introduce any approximation throughout the imaging process, is broadly applicable and effectively meets the demands for high-resolution imaging. Nonetheless, the BP algorithm necessitates substantial interpolation during point-by-point processing, and the precision and effectiveness of current interpolation methods limit the imaging performance of the BP algorithm. This paper proposes a TSU-ICSI (Time-shift Upsampling-Improved Cubic Spline Interpolation) interpolation method that integrates time-shift upsampling with improved cubic spline interpolation. This method is applied to the BP algorithm and presents an efficient implementation method in conjunction with the GPU architecture. TSU-ICSI not only maintains the accuracy of BP imaging processing but also significantly boosts performance. With the continuous development of satellite payload and system-on-chip (SoC) technology, spaceborne real-time synthetic aperture radar (SAR) imaging systems play a crucial role in various defense and civilian domains, including Earth remote sensing, military reconnaissance, disaster mitigation, and resource exploration. However, designing high-performance and high-reliability SAR imaging systems that operate in harsh environmental conditions while adhering to strict size, weight, and power consumption constraints remains a significant challenge. In this paper, we introduce a spaceborne SAR imaging chip based on a SoC architecture with system fault-tolerant technology. The fault-tolerant SAR SoC architecture has a CPU, interface subsystem, memory subsystem, data transit subsystem, and data processing subsystem. The data processing subsystem, which includes fast Fourier transform (FFT) modules, coordinated rotation digital computer (CORDIC) modules (for phase factor calculation), and complex multiplication modules, is the most critical component and can achieve various modes of SAR imaging. Through analyzing the computational requirements of various modes of SAR, we found that FFT accounted for over 50% of the total computational workload in SAR imaging processing, while the CORDIC modules for phase factor generation accounted for around 30%. Therefore, ensuring the fault tolerance of these two modules is crucial. To address this issue, we propose a word-length optimization redundancy (WLOR) method to make the fixed-point pipelined FFT processors in FFT modules fault tolerant. Additionally, we propose a fault-tolerant pipeline CORDIC architecture utilizing error correction code (ECC) and sum of squares (SOS) check. For other parts of the SoC architecture, we propose a generic partial triple modular redundancy (TMR) hardening method based on the HITS algorithm to improve fault tolerance. Finally, we developed a fully automated FPGA-based fault injection platform to test the design's effectiveness by injecting errors at arbitrary locations. The simulation results demonstrate that the proposed methods significantly improved the chip's fault tolerance, making the SAR imaging chip safer and more reliable. We also implemented a prototype measurement system with a chip-included board and demonstrated the proposed design's performance on the Chinese Gaofen-3 strip-map continuous imaging system. The chip requires 9.2 s, 50.6 s, and 7.4 s for a strip-map with 16,384 × 16,384 granularity, multi-channel strip-map with 65,536 × 8192 granularity, and multi-channel scan mode with 32,768 × 4096 granularity, respectively, and the system hardware consumes 6.9 W of power to process the SAR raw data. Coherent imaging systems, such as synthetic aperture radar (SAR), often suffer from granular speckle noise due to inherent defects, which can make interpretation challenging. Although numerous despeckling methods have been proposed in the past three decades, SAR image despeckling remains a challenging task. With the extensive use of non-local self-similarity, despeckling methods under the non-local framework have become increasingly mature. However, effectively utilizing patch similarities remains a key problem in SAR image despeckling. This paper proposes a three-dimensional (3D) SAR image despeckling method based on searching for similar patches and applying the high-order singular value decomposition (HOSVD) theory to better utilize the high-dimensional information of similar patches. Specifically, the proposed method extends two-dimensional (2D) to 3D for SAR image despeckling using tensor patches. A new, non-local similar patch-searching measure criterion is used to classify the patches, and similar patches are stacked into 3D tensors. Lastly, the iterative adaptive weighted tensor cyclic approximation is used for SAR image despeckling based on the HOSVD method. Simulated raw data have become an essential tool for testing and assessing system parameters and imaging performance due to the high cost and limited availability of real raw data from spaceborne synthetic aperture radar (SAR). However, with increasing resolution and higher orbit altitudes, existing simulation methods fail to generate SAR simulated raw data that closely resemble real raw data. This is due to approximations such as curved orbits, "stop-and-go" assumption, and Earth's rotation, among other factors. To overcome these challenges, this paper presents an accurate range model with a "nonstop-and-go" configuration for raw data simulation based on existing time-domain simulation methods. We model the SAR echo signal and establish a precise space geometry for spaceborne SAR. Additionally, we precisely identify the target illumination area based on elliptical beams through space coordinate transformation. Finally, the SAR raw data were accurately simulated using high-precision time-domain simulation methods. The accuracy of the proposed model was validated by comparing it with the traditional hyperbolic model and the curved orbit model with "stop-and-go" assumption through image processing of the generated raw data. Through the analysis of point target quality parameters, the errors of various parameters in our distance model compared with the other two models are within 1%. Furthermore, this simulation method can be adapted to simulate raw data of other modes and satellite orbits by adjusting beam control and satellite orbit parameters, respectively. Synthetic aperture radar (SAR), as a wideband radar system, is easily contaminated by radio frequency interference (RFI), which affects the imaging quality of SAR. The subband spectral cancellation (SSC) method and its modifications utilize the SAR single-look complex (SLC) image to realize RFI extraction and mitigation by subtracting between sub-images, which are robust and efficient for engineering applications. In the past, the traditional SSC was often applied to narrowband interference (NBI) mitigation. However, when it was used for wideband interference (WBI) mitigation, it would cause the mitigated image to lose much of its useful information. In contrast, this paper proposes an improved SSC method based on successive cancellation and data accumulation (SSC-SCDA) for WBI mitigation. First, the fast Fourier transform (FFT) is used to characterize the SAR SLC data in the frequency domain, and the average range spectrum algorithm is used to detect whether there are interference components in the SAR SLC data. Then, according to the carrier frequency and bandwidth of the RFI in the frequency domain, the subbands are divided, and a cancellation strategy is formulated. Finally, based on the successive cancellation and data accumulation technology, WBIs can be removed by using only a small percentage of the clean subbands. Based on the simulated experiments, the interference mitigation performance of the proposed method is analyzed when the interference-to-signal bandwidth ratio (ISBR) varies from 20% to 80% under different signal-to-interference-to-noise ratios (SINR). The increasing availability of multiplatform, multiband, very-high-resolution (VHR) satellite synthetic aperture radar (SAR) data has attracted the attention of a growing number of scientists and archeologists. In particular, over the last two decades, archeological research has benefited from SAR development mainly due to its unique ability to acquire scenes both at night and during the day under all weather conditions, its penetration capability, and the provided polarimetric and interferometric information. This paper explored the potential of a novel method (nonlocal (NL)-SAR) using TerraSAR-X (TSX) and Constellation of Small Satellites for Mediterranean Basin Observation (COSMO)-SkyMed (CSK) data to detect buried archeological remains in steep, rugged terrain. In this investigation, two test sites were selected in southern Tunisia, home to some of the most valuable and well-preserved limes from the Roman Empire. To enhance the subtle signals linked to archeological features, the speckle noise introduced into SAR data by the environment and SAR system must be mitigated. Accordingly, the NL-SAR method was applied to SAR data pertaining to these two significant test sites. Overall, the investigation (i) revealed a fortified settlement from the Roman Empire and (ii) identified an unknown urban area abandoned during this period via a field survey, thus successfully confirming the capability of SAR data to reveal unknown, concealed archeological sites, even in areas with a complex topography. The azimuth multichannel synthetic aperture radar (MC-SAR) is an effective means of earth observation due to its high-resolution and wide-swath (HRWS) imaging capability. Compared with the traditional MC-SAR, the two-dimensional (2D) spectrum of the squint multichannel synthetic aperture radar (SMC-SAR) is skewed, leading to the severe coupling between azimuth signals and range signals. Therefore, the traditional imaging algorithms are inapplicable to SMC-SAR. Currently, the existing imaging algorithms for SMC-SAR need interpolation or sub-aperture processing, which results in low efficiency. This paper proposes a novel imaging scheme for spaceborne SMC-SAR to handle this issue. With the squint angle known, the Doppler centroid can be compensated for by the spectrum shift function. Additionally, the frequency correlation method (FCM) is utilized to estimate the channel phase imbalance. After that, the azimuth multichannel data are reconstructed by the filter banks to eliminate the Doppler spectrum aliasing. Finally, the data are imaged based on the modified equivalent slant range model (MESRM). Lithium mining has become a controversial issue in the transition to green technologies due to the intervention in natural basins that impact the native flora and fauna in these environments. Large resources of this element are concentrated in Andean salt flats in South America, where extraction is much easier than in other geological configurations. The Pozuelos highland salt flat, located in northern Argentina (Salta's Province), was chosen for this study due to the presence of different evaporitic crusts and its proven economic potential in lithium-rich brines. A comprehensive analysis of a 5.5-year-long time series of its microwave backscatter with Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) images yielded significant insights into the dynamics of their crusts. During a field campaign conducted near the acquisition of three SAR images (Sentinel-1, ALOS-2/PALSAR-2, and SAOCOM-1), field measurements were collected for computational modeling of the SAR response. The temporal backscattering coefficients for the crusts in the salt flat are directly linked to rainfall events, where changes in surface roughness, soil moisture, and water table depth represent the most critical variables. Field parameters were employed to model the backscattering response of the salt flat using the Small Slope Approximation (SSA) model. Salt concentration of the subsurface brine and the water table depth over the slightly to moderately roughed crusts were quantitatively derived from Bayesian inference of the ALOS-2/PALSAR-2 and SAOCOM-1 SAR backscattering coefficient data. The results demonstrated the potential for subsurface estimation with L-band dual-polarization images, constrained to crusts compatible with the feasibility range of the layered model. The unique imaging modality of synthetic aperture radar (SAR) has posed significant challenges for object detection, making it more complex to acquire and interpret than optical images. Recently, numerous studies have proposed cross-domain adaptive methods based on convolutional neural networks (CNNs) to promote SAR object detection using optical data. However, existing cross-domain methods focus on image features, lack improvement on input data, and ignore the valuable supervision provided by few labeled SAR images. Therefore, we propose a semi-supervised cross-domain object detection framework that uses optical data and few SAR data to achieve knowledge transfer for SAR object detection. Our method focuses on the data processing aspects to gradually reduce the domain shift at the image, instance, and feature levels. First, we propose a data augmentation method of image mixing and instance swapping to generate a mixed domain that is more similar to the SAR domain. This method fully utilizes few SAR annotation information to reduce domain shift at image and instance levels. Second, at the feature level, we propose an adaptive optimization strategy to filter out mixed domain samples that significantly deviate from the SAR feature distribution to train feature extractor. In addition, we employ Vision Transformer (ViT) as feature extractor to handle the global feature extraction of mixed images. We propose a detection head based on normalized Wasserstein distance (NWD) to enhance objects with smaller effective regions in SAR images. Multi-moving-target imaging in a synthetic aperture radar (SAR) system poses a significant challenge owing to target defocusing and being contaminated by strong background clutter. Aiming at this problem, a new deep-convolutional-neural-network (CNN)-assisted method is proposed for multi-moving-target imaging in a SAR-GMTI system. The multi-moving-target signal can be modeled by a multicomponent LFM signal with additive perturbation. A fully convolutional network named MLFMSS-Net was designed based on an encoder–decoder architecture to extract the most-energetic LFM signal component from the multicomponent LFM signal in the time domain. Without prior knowledge of the target number, an iterative signal-separation framework based on the well-trained MLFMSS-Net is proposed to separate the multi-moving-target signal into multiple LFM signal components while eliminating the residual clutter. It works well, exhibiting high imaging robustness and low dependence on the system parameters, making it a suitable solution for practical imaging applications. Consequently, a well-focused multi-moving-target image can be obtained by parameter estimation and secondary azimuth compression for each separated LFM signal component. The simulations and experiments on both airborne and spaceborne SAR data showed that the proposed method is superior to traditional imaging methods in both imaging quality and efficiency. LuTan-1 (LT-1) is an innovative spaceborne radar Earth observation mission including two satellites equipped with synthetic aperture radar (SAR) which will be launched in 2022. Active phased array antennas that can be divided into two physical channels are equipped on each satellite. The signal can be transmitted through the full antenna without broadening and recorded by each channel. Therefore, two methods can be used to preprocess the dual-channel receiving signals, referred to as dual-channel echo reconstruction and dual-channel echo synthesis. The former is inherited from the traditional high-resolution wide-swath mode and the latter is a method that takes coherent superposition as the reference. This paper researches the impacts of the two methods in system performance and imaging quality. Principles and theoretical models are firstly given. Furthermore, the system performance under the "L1A_SM_S" working mode of the LT-1 is simulated to compare the differences between the two methods, which mainly focuses on azimuth ambiguity-to-signal ratio, noise equivalent sigma zero, and the performance of block adaptive quantization. Afterwards, the test data acquired by the ground validation system of the LT-1 are used for the hardware-in-the-loop simulation to demonstrate the imaging quality between the two methods. Quadrature-polarimetric synthetic aperture radar (quad-pol SAR) has extensive applications, including climate zones classification, extraction of surface roughness, soil moisture mapping, moving target indication, and rice mapping. Hybrid quad-pol SAR ameliorates the range ambiguity performance of conventional quad-pol SAR. However, the azimuth ambiguity of its cross-polarized (cross-pol) echo signals is serious, limiting the swath width of SAR. Therefore, this paper proposes a spaceborne weighted amplitude modulation (WAM) full-polarimetric (full-pol) SAR system, and it can suppress the azimuth ambiguity of hybrid quad-pol SAR. The performance boost of the azimuth ambiguity by the two imaging modes of the proposed SAR system is detailed and evaluated with the L-band system parameters. Moreover, the chirp scaling algorithm (CSA) is adopted to execute scene simulations for the two imaging modes. Synthetic aperture radar (SAR) interferometry has rapidly evolved in the last decade and can be considered today as a mature technology, which incorporates computationally intensive and data-intensive tasks. In this paper, a perspective on the state-of-the-art of high performance computing (HPC) methodologies applied to spaceborne SAR interferometry (InSAR) is presented, and the different parallel algorithms for interferometric processing of SAR data are critically discussed at different levels. Emphasis is placed on the key processing steps, which typically occur in the interferometric techniques, categorized according to their computational relevance. Existing implementations of the different InSAR stages using diverse parallel strategies and architectures are examined and their performance discussed. Furthermore, some InSAR computational schemes selected in the literature are analyzed at the level of the entire processing chain, thus emphasizing their potentialities and limitations. Therefore, the survey focuses on the inherent computational approaches enabling large-scale interferometric SAR processing, thus offering insight into some open issues, and outlining future trends in the field. Circular synthetic aperture radar (CSAR) has the potential to form 3D images with single-pass single-channel radar data, which is very time-efficient. This article proposes a volumetric neural renderer that utilizes CSAR 2D amplitude images to reconstruct the 3D power distribution of the imaged scene. The innovations are two-fold: Firstly, we propose a new SAR amplitude image formation model that establishes a linear mapping relationship between multi-look amplitude-squared SAR images and a real-valued 4D (spatial location (x, y, z) and azimuth angle θ) radar scattered field. Secondly, incorporating the proposed image formation model and SAR imaging geometry, we extend the neural radiance field (NeRF) methods to reconstruct the 4D radar scattered field using a set of 2D multi-aspect SAR images. Using real-world drone SAR data, we demonstrate our method for (1) creating realistic SAR imagery from arbitrary new viewpoints and (2) reconstructing high-precision 3D structures of the imaged scene. Accurate land cover classification (LCC) is essential for studying global change. Synthetic aperture radar (SAR) has been used for LCC due to its advantage of weather independence. In particular, the dual-polarization (dual-pol) SAR data have a wider coverage and are easier to obtain, which provides an unprecedented opportunity for LCC. However, the dual-pol SAR data have a weak discrimination ability due to limited polarization information. Moreover, the complex imaging mechanism leads to the speckle noise of SAR images, which also decreases the accuracy of SAR LCC. To address the above issues, an improved dual-pol radar vegetation index based on multiple components (DpRVIm) and a new LCC method are proposed for dual-pol SAR data. Firstly, in the DpRVIm, the scattering information of polarization and terrain factors were considered to improve the separability of ground objects for dual-pol data. Then, the Jeffries-Matusita (J-M) distance and one-dimensional convolutional neural network (1DCNN) algorithm were used to analyze the effect of difference dual-pol radar vegetation indexes on LCC. Finally, in order to reduce the influence of the speckle noise, a two-stage LCC method, the 1DCNN-MRF, based on the 1DCNN and Markov random field (MRF) was designed considering the spatial information of ground objects. In this study, the HH-HV model data of the Gaofen-3 satellite in the Dongting Lake area were used, and the results showed that: (1) Through the combination of the backscatter coefficient and dual-pol radar vegetation indexes based on the polarization decomposition technique, the accuracy of LCC can be improved compared with the single backscatter coefficient. (2) The DpRVIm was more conducive to improving the accuracy of LCC than the classic dual-pol radar vegetation index (DpRVI) and radar vegetation index (RVI), especially for farmland and forest. (3) Compared with the classic machine learning methods K-nearest neighbor (KNN), random forest (RF), and the 1DCNN, the designed 1DCNN-MRF achieved the highest accuracy, with an overall accuracy (OA) score of 81.76% and a Kappa coefficient (Kappa) score of 0.74. This study indicated the application potential of the polarization decomposition technique and DEM in enhancing the separability of different land cover types in SAR LCC. In 1978, the SEASAT satellite was launched, carrying the first civilian synthetic aperture radar (SAR). The mission was the monitoring of ocean: application to land was also studied. Despite its short operational time of 105 days, SEASAT-SAR provided a wealth of information on land and sea, and initiated many spaceborne SAR programs using not only the image intensity data, but also new technologies of interferometric SAR (InSAR) and polarimetric SAR (PolSAR). In recent years, artificial intelligence (AI), such as deep learning, has also attracted much attention. In the present article, a review is given on the imaging processes and analyses of oceanic data using SAR, InSAR, PolSAR data and AI. The selected oceanic phenomena described here include ocean waves, internal waves, oil slicks, currents, bathymetry, ship detection and classification, wind, aquaculture, and sea ice. Owing to the Moon's rough surface, there is a growing controversy over the conclusion that water ice exists in the lunar permanently shadowed regions (PSRs) with a high circular polarization ratio (CPR). To further detect water ice on the Moon, an innovative design method for spaceborne synthetic aperture radar (SAR) system is proposed, to obtain radar data that can be used to distinguish water ice from lunar regolith with a small difference in the dielectric constants. According to Campbell's dielectric constant model and the requirement that SAR radiometric resolution is smaller than the contrast of targets in images, a newly defined SAR system function involved in the method is presented to evaluate the influence of some system parameters on the water ice detection capability of SAR. The ground moving target (GMT) is defocused due to unknown motion parameters in synthetic aperture radar (SAR) imaging. Although the conventional Omega-K algorithm (Omega-KA) has been proven to be applicable for GMT imaging, its disadvantages are slow imaging speed, obvious sidelobe interference, and high computational complexity. To solve the above problems, a SAR-GMT imaging network is proposed based on trainable Omega-KA and sparse optimization. Specifically, we propose a two-dimensional (2-D) sparse imaging model deducted from the Omega-KA focusing process. Then, a recurrent neural network (RNN) based on an iterative optimization algorithm is built to learn the trainable parameters of Omega-KA by an off-line supervised training method, and the solving process of the sparse imaging model is mapped to each layer of the RNN. The proposed trainable Omega-KA network (Omega-KA-net) forms a new GMT imaging method that can be applied to high-quality imaging under down-sampling and a low signal to noise ratio (SNR) while saving the imaging time substantially. Ship detection in large-scale synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images has achieved breakthroughs as a result of the improvement of SAR imaging technology. However, there still exist some issues due to the scattering interference, sparsity of ships, and dim and small ships. To address these issues, an anchor-free method is proposed for dim and small ship detection in large-scale SAR images. First, fully convolutional one-stage object detection (FCOS) as the baseline is applied to detecting ships pixel by pixel, which can eliminate the effect of anchors and avoid the missing detection of small ships. Then, considering the particularity of SAR ships, the sample definition is redesigned based on the statistical characteristics of ships. Next, the feature extraction is redesigned to improve the feature representation for dim and small ships. Finally, the classification and regression are redesigned by introducing an improved focal loss and regression refinement with complete intersection over union (CIoU) loss. Experimental simulation results show that the proposed R-FCOS method can detect dim and small ships in large-scale SAR images with higher accuracy compared with other methods. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Spaceborne polarimetric synthetic aperture radar interferometry (PolInSAR) has the potential to deal with large-scale forest height inversion. However, the inversion is influenced by strong temporal decorrelation interference resulting from a large temporal baseline. Additionally, the forest canopy induces phase errors, while the smaller vertical wavenumber ( k z ) enhances the sensitivity of the inversion to temporal decorrelation, which limits the efficiency in forest height inversion. This research is based on the random volume over ground (RVoG) model and follows the assumptions of the three-stage inversion method, to quantify the impact of repeat-pass spaceborne PolInSAR temporal decorrelation on the relative error of retrieval height, and develop a semi-empirical improved inversion model, using ground data to eliminate the interference of coherence and phase error caused by temporal decorrelation. Forest height inversion for temperate forest in northern China was conducted using repeat-pass spaceborne L-band ALOS2 PALSAR data, and was further verified using ground measurement data. The correction of temporal decorrelation using the improved model provided robust inversion for mixed conifer-broad forest height retrieval as it addressed the over-sensitivity to temporal decorrelation resulting from the inappropriate k z value. The method performed height inversion using interferometric data with temporal baselines ranging from 14 to 70 days and vertical wavenumbers ranging from 0.015 to 0.021 rad/m. Spaceborne synthetic aperture radar (SAR) can provide ground area monitoring with large coverage. However, achieving a wide observation scope comes at the cost of resolution reduction owing to the trade-off between these parameters in conventional SAR. In low-resolution imaging, the moving target appears unresolved, weakly scattered, and slow moving in the image sequence, which can be generated by the subaperture technique. This article proposes a novel moving target detection method. First, interferometric phase statistics are combined with the generalized likelihood ratio test detector. A pixel tracking strategy is further exploited to determine whether a motion signal is present. These methods rely on the approximation of both clutter and noise statistics using Gaussian distributions in a low-resolution scenario. In addition, the motion signals are imaged with a subpixel offset. The proposed method is primarily validated using four real image sequences from TerraSAR-X data, which represent two types of homogeneous areas. The results reveal that moving targets can be detected in nearby areas using this strategy.
