Identifying factors that associate with more cited or higher quality research may be useful to improve science or to support research evaluation. This article reviews evidence for the existence of such factors in article text and metadata. It also reviews studies attempting to estimate article quality or predict long‐term citation counts using statistical regression or machine learning for journal articles or conference papers. Although the primary focus is on document‐level evidence, the related task of estimating the average quality scores of entire departments from bibliometric information is also considered. The review lists a huge range of factors that associate with higher quality or more cited research in some contexts (fields, years, journals) but the strength and direction of association often depends on the set of papers examined, with little systematic pattern and rarely any cause‐and‐effect evidence. The strongest patterns found include the near universal usefulness of journal citation rates, author numbers, reference properties, and international collaboration in predicting (or associating with) higher citation counts, and the greater usefulness of citation‐related information for predicting article quality in the medical, health and physical sciences than in engineering, social sciences, arts, and humanities. Today's software industry is global, virtual, and depending more than ever on strong and reliable processes. Stakeholders and infrastructure are distributed across the globe, posing challenges that go beyond those with co‐located teams and servers. Software Engineering continues to be a complex undertaking, with projects challenged to meet expectations, especially regarding costs. We know that Software Engineering is an ever‐changing discipline, with the result that firms and their employees must regularly embrace new methods, tools, technologies, and processes. In 2020, the International Conference on Global Software Engineering (ICGSE) and the International Conference on Systems and Software Processes (ICSSP) joined forces aiming to create a holistic understanding of the software landscape both from the perspective of human and infrastructure distribution and also the processes to support software development. Unfortunately, these challenges have become even more personal to many more in 2020 due to the disruption introduced by the COVID‐19 pandemic, which forced both conferences to be held virtually. As an outcome of the joint event, we selected a set of the best papers from the two conferences, which were invited to submit extended versions to this Special Issue in the Journal of Software: Maintenance and Evolution. Handmade paper is a major carrier and restoration material of traditional Chinese ancient books, calligraphies, and paintings. In this study, we carried out a Raman spectroscopy analysis of 18 types of handmade paper samples. The main components of the handmade paper were cellulose and lignin, according to the wavenumber and Raman vibration assignment. We divided its Raman spectrum into eight subbands. Five machine learning models were employed: principal component analysis (PCA), partial least squares (PLS), support vector machine (SVM), k‐nearest neighbors (KNN), and random forest (RF). The Raman spectral data were normalized, and the fluorescence envelope was subtracted using the airPLS algorithm to obtain four types of data, raw, normalized, defluorescence, and fluorescence data. An RF variable importance analysis of data processing showed that data normalization eliminated the intensity differences of fluorescence signals caused by lignin, which contained important information of raw materials and papermaking technology, let alone the data defluorescence. The data processing also reduced the importance of the average variables in almost all spectral bands. Nevertheless, the data processing is worthwhile because it significantly improves the accuracy of machine learning, and the information loss does not affect the prediction. Using the machine learning models of PCA, PLS, and SVM combined with linear regression (LR), KNN, and RF, the classification and prediction of handmade paper samples were realized. For almost all processed data, including the fluorescence data, PCA‐LR had the highest classification and prediction accuracy (R2 = 1) in almost all spectral bands. PLS‐LR and SVM‐LR had the second‐highest accuracies (R2 = 0.4–0.9), whereas KNN and RF had the lowest accuracies (R2 = 0.1–0.4) for full band spectral data. Our results suggest that the abundant information contained in Raman spectroscopy combined with powerful machine learning models could inspire further studies on handmade paper and related cultural relics. This document highlights two studies published in the Asian Journal of Ecotoxicology. The first study focuses on the development of machine learning models to screen chemicals with hepatotoxicity, or liver toxicity. The models were trained using a dataset of 4014 chemicals and achieved good performance in predicting hepatotoxicity. The second study explores the use of machine learning methods to screen chemicals that induce autonomic dysfunction, a condition affecting the autonomic nervous system. The study developed a model using a dataset of 466 positive and 427 negative samples and identified structural alerts associated with autonomic dysfunction. Artificial intelligence is more present than ever, both in our society in general and in science. At the center of this development has been the concept of deep learning, the use of artificial neural networks that are many layers deep and can often reproduce human‐like behavior much better than other machine‐learning techniques. In recent years, frequency domain spectroscopy (FDS) is often used to evaluate oil paper insulation state in power transformer bushing. But it is still very difficult to evaluate the moisture content accurately and quickly. In order to solve this problem, this paper proposes an intelligent algorithm based on random forest regression (RFR) to construct an efficient evaluation method through segmented FDS curves. Furthermore, the characteristics of FDS curves were studied and the intelligent method was compared with support vector regression (SVR) and deep neural networks (DNN). The results show that the dielectric loss, the real part and imaginary part of complex capacitance all move upward with the moisture increasing, so they can be used as the input feature of the evaluation model; The moisture content evaluation accuracy of the RFR model in the whole frequency band is higher than that of SVR and DNN models; With the increase of lower cut off frequency (FDS test stop frequency), the FDS test time is greatly shortened, and the accuracy of the RFR model can still meet the evaluation requirements. Smooth interaction with a disaster‐affected community can create and strengthen its social capital, leading to greater effectiveness in the provision of successful post‐disaster recovery aid. To understand the relationship between the types of interaction, the strength of social capital generated, and the provision of successful post‐disaster recovery aid, intricate ethnographic qualitative research is required, but it is likely to remain illustrative because it is based, at least to some degree, on the researcher's intuition. This paper thus offers an innovative research method employing a quantitative artificial intelligence (AI)‐based language model, which allows researchers to re‐examine data, thereby validating the findings of the qualitative research, and to glean additional insights that might otherwise have been missed. This paper argues that well‐connected personnel and religiously‐based communal activities help to enhance social capital by bonding within a community and linking to outside agencies and that mixed methods, based on the AI‐based language model, effectively strengthen text‐based qualitative research. Multimodal learning analytics (MMLA) research has made significant progress in modelling collaboration quality for the purpose of understanding collaboration behaviour and building automated collaboration estimation models. Deploying these automated models in authentic classroom scenarios, however, remains a challenge. This paper presents findings from an evaluation of collaboration quality estimation models. We collected audio, video and log data from two different Estonian schools. These data were used in different combinations to build collaboration estimation models and then assessed across different subjects, different types of activities (collaborative‐writing, group‐discussion) and different schools. Our results suggest that the automated collaboration model can generalize to the context of different schools but with a 25% degradation in balanced accuracy (from 82% to 57%). Moreover, the results also indicate that multimodality brings more performance improvement in the case of group‐discussion‐based activities than collaborative‐writing‐based activities. Further, our results suggest that the video data could be an alternative for understanding collaboration in authentic settings where higher‐quality audio data cannot be collected due to contextual factors. The present review paper addresses the increasing interest in the application of machine learning (ML) algorithms in the assessment of the fatigue response of additively manufactured (AM) metal alloys. This review aims to systematically collect, categorize, and analyze relevant research papers in this domain. The most commonly used ML algorithms are presented, discussing their specific relevance to the fatigue modeling of AM metal alloys. A detailed analysis of the most relevant input features used in the literature to predict the main parameters related to the fatigue response is provided. Each work has been analyzed to highlight its strengths and peculiarities, thereby offering insights into novel methodologies and approaches for addressing critical challenges within this field. Particular attention is dedicated to the role of defects and the related size‐effect, as they strongly influence the fatigue response. Earthquake nowcasting has been proposed as a means of tracking the change in large earthquake potential in a seismically active area. The method was developed using observable seismic data, in which probabilities of future large earthquakes can be computed using Receiver Operating Characteristic methods. Furthermore, analysis of the Shannon information content of the earthquake catalogs has been used to show that there is information contained in the catalogs, and that it can vary in time. So an important question remains, where does the information originate? In this paper, we examine this question using stochastic simulations of earthquake catalogs. Our catalog simulations are computed using an Earthquake Rescaled Aftershock Seismicity ("ERAS") stochastic model. This model is similar in many ways to other stochastic seismicity simulations, but has the advantage that the model has only 2 free parameters to be set, one for the aftershock (Omori‐Utsu) time decay, and one for the aftershock spatial migration away from the epicenter. Generating a simulation catalog and fitting the two parameters to the observed catalog such as California takes only a few minutes of wall clock time. While clustering can arise from random, Poisson statistics, we show that significant information in the simulation catalogs arises from the "non‐Poisson" power‐law aftershock clustering, implying that the practice of de‐clustering observed catalogs may remove information that would otherwise be useful in forecasting and nowcasting. We also show that the nowcasting method provides similar results with the ERAS model as it does with observed seismicity. Summary: 5G and beyond (5GB) systems show a flexible characteristic to meet different user communications requirements in parallel. Multi‐numerology waveform design is an important part of this human centric characteristic, however, it is necessary to make multi‐numerology planning. In this paper, the integrated sensing and communications (ISAC) concept is used with machine learning (ML) techniques to develop an intelligent numerology control mechanism for 5GB. Thanks to the ISAC capabilities, an environment‐aware system is designed, and several useful sensing information (USI) that affect the wireless channel characteristic is utilized. It is assumed that the USI is obtained through 5GB smart city networks. At that point, synthetic data generation is performed to form a new dataset with USI‐based features. Additionally, a novel feature control algorithm is proposed in the paper. Lastly, simulation results are presented for different type of ML models including several ensemble methods. Summary: Autonomy is becoming a prime requirement for satellite mission control operations. Data‐driven methods like Machine Learning models are playing a key role in bringing in autonomy. Health keeping data from satellite telemetry is a key ingredient in these data‐driven methods. In real‐world satellite operations, the health‐keeping telemetry data gradually drifts due to adverse space weather effects and wear and tear of electronic and mechanical components. The key question that arises is how to detect and quantify the data drift which is generally a gradual phenomenon. This paper discusses a novel statistical method for detecting data drift occurring in satellite telemetry. For the purpose of experimental work in this paper, an actual telemetry data set of the BUS CURRENT sensor which is part of the Electrical Power System of a Low Earth Orbit Satellite was considered. Data drift detection test was carried out using this sensor data using the developed novel statistical method and with Kolmogorov Smirnov test which is a probabilistic method. There is a growing trend of using artificial intelligence, particularly deep learning algorithms, in medical diagnostics, revolutionizing healthcare by improving efficiency, accuracy, and patient outcomes. However, the use of artificial intelligence in medical diagnostics comes with the critical need to explain the reasoning behind artificial intelligence‐based predictions and ensure transparency in decision‐making. Explainable artificial intelligence has emerged as a crucial research area to address the need for transparency and interpretability in medical diagnostics. Explainable artificial intelligence techniques aim to provide insights into the decision‐making process of artificial intelligence systems, enabling clinicians to understand the factors the algorithms consider in reaching their predictions. This paper presents a detailed review of saliency‐based (visual) methods, such as class activation methods, which have gained popularity in medical imaging as they provide visual explanations by highlighting the regions of an image most influential in the artificial intelligence's decision. We also present the literature on non‐visual methods, but the focus will be on visual methods. We also use the existing literature to experiment with infrared breast images for detecting breast cancer. Towards the end of this paper, we also propose an "attention guided Grad‐CAM" that enhances the visualizations for explainable artificial intelligence. The existing literature shows that explainable artificial intelligence techniques are not explored in the context of infrared medical images and opens up a wide range of opportunities for further research to make clinical thermography into assistive technology for the medical community. Reliability engineering faces many of the same challenges today that it did at its inception in the 1950s. The fundamental issue remains uncertainty in system representation, specifically related to performance model structure and parameterization. Details of a design are unavailable early in the development process and therefore performance models must either account for the range of possibilities or be wrong. Increasing system complexity has compounded this uncertainty. In this work, we seek to understand how the reliability engineering literature has shifted over time. We exe cute a systematic literature review of 30,543 reliability engineering papers (covering roughly a third of the reliability papers indexed by Elsevier's Engineering Village. Topic modeling was performed on the abstracts of those papers to identify 279 topics. The hierarchical topic reduction resulted in the identification of eight top‐level method topics (prognostics, statistics, maintenance, quality control, management, physics of failure, modeling, and risk assessment) as well as three domain‐specific topics (nuclear, infrastructure, and software). We found that topics more associated with later phases in the development process (such as prognostics, maintenance, and quality control) have increased in popularity over time relative to other topics. A cement‐based material that meets the general goals of mechanical properties, workability, and durability as well as the ever‐increasing demands of environmental sustainability is produced by varying the type and quantity of individual constituents in high‐performance concrete (HPC) and ultrahigh‐performance concrete (UHPC). Expensive and time‐consuming laboratory experiments can be used to estimate the properties of concrete mixtures and elements. As an alternative, these attributes can be approximated by means of predictive models created through the application of artificial intelligence (AI) methodologies. AI approaches are among the most effective ways to solve engineering problems due to their capacity for pattern recognition and knowledge processing. Machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL) are a subfield of AI that is gaining popularity across many scientific domains as a result of its many benefits over statistical and experimental models. These include, but are not limited to, better accuracy, faster performance, greater responsiveness in complex environments, and lower economic costs. In order to assess the critical features of the literature, a comprehensive review of ML and DL applications for HPC and UHPC was conducted in this study. This paper offers a thorough explanation of the fundamental terms and ideas of ML and DL algorithms that are frequently used to predict mechanical properties of HPC and UHPC. Hydrothermal liquefaction is a new, sustainable pathway to generate biogenic liquids from organic resources. The technology is compatible with a wide variety of resources such as lignocellulosic resources, organic waste, algae, and sewage sludge. The chemistry is complex and predictions of yields are notoriously difficult. Understanding and modeling of hydrothermal liquefaction is currently mostly based on a simplified biochemical analysis and product yield data. This paper presents a large dataset of 2439 experiments in batch reactors that were extracted from 171 publications in the scientific literature. The data include biochemical composition data such as fiber content and composition, proteins, lipids, carbohydrates, and ash. The experimental conditions are recorded for each experiment as well as the reported yields. The objective of this paper is to make a large database available to the scientific community. This database is analyzed with machine‐learning tools. The results show that there is no consensus on the analysis techniques, experimental procedures, and reported data. There are many inconsistencies across the literature that should be improved by the scientific community. Machine‐learning tools with a large dataset allow the generation of reliable yield production tools with a large application field. Given the accuracy of the data, the overall precision of prediction in an extrapolation to new results can be expected to be around 10%. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Dementia is a cognitive decline that leads to the progressive deterioration of an individual's ability to perform daily activities independently. As a result, a considerable amount of time and resources are spent on caretaking. Early detection of dementia can significantly reduce the effort and resources needed for caretaking. Aims: This research proposes an approach for assessing cognitive decline by analysing speech data, specifically focusing on speech relevance as a crucial indicator for memory recall. Methods & Procedures: This is a cross‐sectional, online, self‐administered. The proposed method used deep learning architecture based on transformers, with BERT (Bidirectional Encoder Representations from Transformers) and Sentence‐Transformer to derive encoded representations of speech transcripts. These representations provide contextually descriptive information that is used to analyse the relevance of sentences in their respective contexts. The encoded information is then compared using cosine similarity metrics to measure the relevance of uttered sequences of sentences. The study uses the Pitt Corpus Dementia dataset for experimentation, which consists of speech data from individuals with and without dementia. The accuracy of the proposed multi‐QA‐MPNet (Multi‐Query Maximum Inner Product Search Pretraining) model is compared with other pretrained transformer models of Sentence‐Transformer. Outcomes & Results: The results show that the proposed approach outperforms the other models in capturing context level information, particularly semantic memory. Additionally, the study explores the suitability of different similarity measures to evaluate the relevance of uttered sequences of sentences. The experimentation reveals that cosine similarity is the most appropriate measure for this task. Conclusions & Implications: This finding has significant implications for the early warning signs of dementia, as it suggests that cosine similarity metrics can effectively capture the semantic relevance of spoken language. The persistent cognitive decline over time acts as one of the indicators for prevalence of dementia. Additionally early dementia could be recognised by analysis on other modalities like speech and brain images. WHAT THIS PAPER ADDS: What is already known on this subject: It is already known that speech‐ and language‐based detection methods can be useful for dementia diagnosis, as language difficulties are often early signs of the disease. Additionally, deep learning algorithms have shown promise in detecting and diagnosing dementia through analysing large datasets, particularly in speech‐ and language‐based detection methods. However, further research is needed to validate the performance of these algorithms on larger and more diverse datasets and to address potential biases and limitations. Artificial intelligence (AI) technology has brought new reconstruction opportunities for the intelligence of the advertisement industry through the help of AI technologies such as machine learning and deep learning. First, the relationship between AI and the attractiveness of green advertisements is investigated, and the influence of different AI technologies in green advertisements on consumers' perception of the attractiveness of green advertisements is summarized. Second, based on the green advertisement dissemination rate data set, the data visualization exploration is carried out, and the data deletion and coding processing are carried out aiming at different characteristic variables. Finally, according to the problems existing in the current green advertisement communication and the high‐dimensional and sparse characteristics of the communication rate data set. In this paper, based on Deep FM (Factorization Machine), Gradient Boost Decision Tree (GBDT) is added to assist the experiment, and the prediction performance of green advertising communication is tested. The results are as follows. (1) Different AI expressions in green advertisements will affect consumers' perception of the attractiveness of green advertisements. (2) The prediction ability of Deep FM model after feature engineering is better than that of data cleaning only. The prediction effect of the model is obviously improved. The purpose of this paper is to integrate green advertising media communication into the ecological concept of harmonious coexistence between man and nature, strengthen the political belief of ecological civilization construction, and conform to the communication trend of today's severe ecological situation. In order to explore the international competitiveness of China's agricultural product supply chain, this paper combines machine learning algorithms to optimize the data processing process of agricultural product supply chain, and proposes a data processing method for agricultural product supply chain based on the intra‐column rules and inter‐column rules. According to the problems of my country's agricultural product supply chain, this paper establishes a new agricultural product supply chain management model based on the various modules of the supply chain link, and constructs a corresponding intelligent analysis model. Moreover, this paper combines machine learning algorithms to study the improvement path of the international competitiveness of China's agricultural product supply chain, and builds an intelligent model to improve the international competitiveness of China's agricultural products. Finally, after constructing the model, this paper obtains the path to improve the international competitiveness of China's agricultural products through the simulation operation model, which also verifies the effectiveness of the intelligent algorithm of this paper from the side. This paper proposes a deep reinforcement learning algorithm to achieve complete coverage path planning for deep‐sea mining vehicle clusters. First, the mining vehicles and the deep‐sea mining environment are modeled. Then, this paper implements a series of algorithm designs and optimizations based on Deep Q Networks (DQN). The map fusion mechanism can integrate the grid matrix data from multiple mining vehicles to get the state matrix of the complete environment. In this paper, a preprocessing method for the state matrix is also designed to provide suitable training data for the neural network. The reward function and action selection mechanism of the algorithm are also optimized according to the requirements of cluster cooperative operation. Furthermore, the algorithm uses distance constraints to prevent the entanglement of underwater hoses. To improve the training efficiency of the neural network, the algorithm filters and extracts training samples for training through the sample quality score. Considering the requirement of cluster complete coverage mission, this paper introduces Long Short‐Term Memory (LSTM) based on the neural network to achieve a better training effect. This paper aims to update our understanding of the carbon cycle in the Himalayas, the most intense collisional orogeny globally, by providing new insight into its impact on Cenozoic climate cooling through the use of isotopic variations in both organic and inorganic carbon and an isotopic mass balance model. Our results from 20 selected hot springs show that the relative contributions of dissolved carbon from the mantle, metamorphic decarbonization, aqueous dissolution, and soil organic matter are approximately 2%, 82%, 6%, and 10%, respectively. Approximately 87% ± 5% of CO2 generated in the deep crust precipitates as calcite, while approximately 5.5% ± 1% of this carbon is converted to biomass through microbial chemosynthesis at depths less than 2 km. Our random forests approach yielded a metamorphic carbon flux from the entire Himalayan orogenic belt of approximately 2.7 ∼ 4.5 × 1012 mol/yr. The minor CO2 released into the atmosphere (2.5 ∼ 4.2 × 1011 mol/yr) is comparable to the carbon consumption driven by Himalayan weathering. This paper provides new insights into deep carbon cycling, notably that approximately 93% of deeply sourced carbon is trapped in the shallow crust, rendering orogenic processes carbon neutral and possibly acting as one of the major triggers of long‐term climate cooling in the Cenozoic. The carbon isotope fractionation model between gas and aqueous solutions revealed that the carbon released from depth underwent six different stages. Based on the random forests machine learning algorithm, we estimated the metamorphic carbon flux across the Himalayan orogenic belt. Furthermore, only a small fraction (7%) of deep carbon is eventually released into the atmosphere, and this volume is the same magnitude as the amount of carbon absorbed by silicate weathering on the Tibetan Plateau. Background: Driven by the ongoing need to provide high‐quality learning and teaching, universities recently have shown an increased interest in using learning analytics (LA) for improving learning design (LD). However, the evidence of such improvements is scarce, and the maturity of such research is unclear. Objectives: This study is aimed to evaluate the maturity of research discussing LA‐driven LD improvements in higher education. Methods: The systematic review analyses 49 empirical papers, assesses their quality and suggests further research directions. The review elaborates on methodological (research questions, strategy and methods, LA‐LD integration theoretical backgrounds) and substantial (LA‐driven LD improvements, types of data used, LA software development) features of the papers. Results and Conclusions: The findings demonstrated the lack of theoretical alignment between LA and LD, with research tending towards user experience studies. The most frequently used research strategy was a case study; experiments were very rare. Researchers predominantly used parsing for collecting data and AI methods for analysing it; mostly used data types related to registering learners' engagement with learning activities as well as resources and tools provided in digital learning environments. Takeaways: The research area discussing LA‐driven LD improvements still has a way to go before attaining the level of full maturity. An array of atmospheric profile observations consists of three‐dimensional vectors representing pressure, temperature, and humidity, with each profile forming a continuous curve in this three‐dimensional space. In this paper, the Signature method, which can quantify a profile's curve, was adopted for the atmospheric profiles, and the accuracy of profile representations was investigated. The description of profiles by the signature was confirmed with adequate accuracy. The machine‐learning‐based model, developed using the signature, exhibited a high level of annual accuracy with minimal absolute mean differences in temperature and water vapor mixing ratio (<2.0 K or g kg−1). Notably, the model successfully captured the vertical structure and atmospheric instability, encompassing drastic variations in water vapor and temperature, even during intense rainfall. These results indicate the Signature method can comprehensively describe the vertical profile with information on how ordered values are correlated. This concept would potentially improve the representation of the atmospheric vertical structure. This paper studies generative adversarial networks (GANs) from the perspective of statistical inference. A GAN is a popular machine learning method in which the parameters of two neural networks, a generator and a discriminator, are estimated to solve a particular minimax problem. This minimax problem typically has a multitude of solutions and the focus of this paper are the statistical properties of these solutions. We address two key statistical issues for the generator and discriminator network parameters, consistent estimation and confidence sets. We first show that the set of solutions to the sample GAN problem is a (Hausdorff) consistent estimator of the set of solutions to the corresponding population GAN problem. We then devise a computationally intensive procedure to form confidence sets and show that these sets contain the population GAN solutions with the desired coverage probability. Small numerical experiments and a Monte Carlo study illustrate our results and verify our theoretical findings. Correct identification of tumor in brain images is critical for treatment. In the medical domain, class distributions of recorded data could differ with locations and require high levels of privacy while collaboratively training the deep learning (DL) models for classifications. The main aim of this paper is to propose a privacy‐preserving collaborative model for the classification of brain tumor in heterogeneously distributed magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) images. In this paper, initially, an open‐source dataset has been acquired and analyzed as per the required competencies. The acquired dataset has four types of MRI images: pituitary tumor, meningioma tumor, glioma tumor, and no tumor. First, the acquired dataset was analyzed using DL and transfer learning algorithms. By applying implementations of basic algorithms, better algorithms were identified for further implementations in a federated learning ecosystem. DenseNet201‐based transfer learning was identified as a better neural network and further utilized for collaborative transfer learning implementations. Here, the paper also focused on developing a suitable system for a heterogeneous distributed tumor database. Heterogeneous data were converted from the available data by applying nonidentical data distribution. The study discovered that the federated DL models, involving multiple clients, exhibited superior performance compared to conventional pretrained models. The proposed framework possesses distinctive characteristics that distinguish it from existing classification methods for brain tumor identification, particularly in terms of ensuring data privacy for edge devices with limited resources. Spectral data describing product samples are typically composed of a large number of noisy and irrelevant wavelengths that tends to undermine the performance of multivariate predictive techniques. This paper proposes a two‐phase framework that integrates a preselection wavelength step oriented by wavelength clustering to a wrapper‐based strategy. The first phase performs a pruning process in the data that removes the less informative wavelengths relying on the spectral clustering, a technique deemed suitable to the Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy and near‐infrared (NIR) spectroscopy data at hand. The preselected wavelengths undergo a second phase of selection efforts based on the combination of different wavelength importance indices (i.e., Bhattacharyya distance, Chi‐square, ReliefF, and Gini) and classification techniques (i.e., support vector machine, k‐nearest neighbors, and random forest). When applied to 11 FTIR datasets from different domains, the recommended combination of importance index and classifier increased the average accuracy by 6.37% (from 0.863 to 0.918), while retaining average 3.84% of the original spectra. The framework also improved the selection process regarding computational time. This paper introduces a two‐phase framework merging wavelength preselection through clustering and a wrapper strategy. Initial spectral clustering eliminates less informative wavelengths. Subsequently, diverse wavelength importance indices and classification methods are integrated. Applied to 11 spectral datasets, the proposed combination (spectral clustering [SC]‐random forest [RF]+Gini [GI]) enhances average accuracy by 6.37%, retaining 3.84% of the original spectra, and reduces computational time. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the utilization of artificial neural networks (ANNs) in learning models that address the nonlinear anisotropic flow and hysteresis retention behavior of deformable porous materials. Herein, the micro‐geometries of various networks of porous Bentheimer Sandstones subjected to several degrees of strain from the literature are considered. For the generation of the database required for the training, validation, and testing of the machine learning (ML) models, single‐phase and biphasic lattice Boltzmann (LB) simulations are performed. The anisotropic nature of the intrinsic permeability is investigated for the single‐phase LB simulations. Thereafter, the database contains the computed average fluid velocities versus the pressure gradients. In this database, the range of applied fluid pressure gradients includes Darcy as well as non‐Darcy flows. The generated output from the single‐phase flow simulations is implemented in a feed‐forward neural network, representing a path‐independent informed graph‐based model. Concerning the two‐phase LB simulations, the Shan‐Chen multiphase LB model is used to generate the retention curves of the cyclic drying/wetting processes in the deformed porous networks. Consequently, two different ML path‐dependent approaches, that is, 1D convolutional neural network and the recurrent neural network, are used to model the biphasic flow through the deformable porous materials. A comparison in terms of accuracy and speed of training between the two approaches is presented. Conclusively, the outcomes of the papers show the capability of the ML models in representing constitutive relations for permeability and hysteretic retention curves accurately and efficiently. XGBoost is the optimization of gradient boosting with the best overall performance among machine learning algorithms. By introducing a regularization term into the loss function of gradient boosting, XGBoost can effectively limit the complexity of the model, improve the generalization ability, and solve the overfitting problem. In this paper, XGBoost is first introduced into modeling radio‐frequency (RF) power amplifiers (PA) under different temperatures. Furthermore, the modeling effect of XGBoost is mainly dependent on hyperparameters. As traditional grid search is time‐consuming and labor‐intensive, this paper combines particle swarm optimization (PSO) with XGBoost for searching hyperparameters. The experimental results show that XGBoost can effectively suppress the overfitting problem in gradient boosting while modeling RF PAs in different ambient temperatures. In addition, compared to classic machine learning algorithms, including support vector regression (SVR), gradient boosting, and XGBoost, the proposed PSO‐XGBoost can increase the modeling accuracy by one order of magnitude or more while also increasing the modeling speed by more than one magnitude or more. Forecasting of renewable energy plays a major role in deregulated power systems. The rapid change in climatic conditions poses many challenges in recent years throughout the globe to policymakers and due to this, the forecasting of solar energy has become quite difficult to forecast with conventional forecasting methods. As compared to conventional methods, machine learning algorithms have shown better accuracy due to their learning methods with uncertain parameters. The market participants such as solar photovoltaic (SPV), battery energy storage system (BESS), and thermal units undergo challenges with the optimal dispatch strategy under such uncertainties of renewable energy. In addition to the concerned integrated system, other uncertainties affect the optimal operation of the integrated system and these are line contingencies and SPV. In this paper, we have used supervised learning methods such as multilayer perceptron (MLP), recurrent neural network (RNN), and long short‐term memory (LSTM) to forecast the hourly SPV in the day‐ahead market. Among the three methods of machine learning, results show LSTM with dense has been a better forecasting method with high accuracy obtained. The role of BESS in the optimal operation of day‐ahead hourly forecasted SPV along with the hourly thermal unit dispatch in DC optimal power flow (OPF) has been investigated in the paper. The main objective of the paper is to optimally allocate the BESS in the SPV‐BESS‐Thermal unit integrated system forming an active distribution network (ADN) to minimize the operating cost under different uncertainties such as line contingencies and SPV. The hourly dispatch of thermal units, BESS, and forecasted SPV is obtained for the short‐term market. Due to the compact and complex internal structure of 110 kV three‐phase enclosed GIS disconnector, the voltage distribution between the contact breaks of each phase has an influence on the insulation performance of the GIS disconnector, and its internal insulation design is a difficult point to be solved. To solve this problem, this paper firstly establishes a three‐dimensional model of three‐phase enclosed GIS disconnecting switch and conducts a research on the distribution of electric field under a specific working condition, it is found that the outer corner of the static contact, the inner corner of the static arc contact, the inner corner of the outer end of the moving contact and the inner corner of the moving contact are the internal electric field concentration of the three‐phase enclosed GIS disconnector. Then, in order to further reduce the electric field strength and improve the insulation margin and performance, this paper proposes a method based on the combination of Extreme Learning Machine (ELM) and Multi‐objective Grasshopper Optimization Algorithm (MOGOA) to optimize the structural design of three‐phase enclosed GIS disconnector, and a ELM model is established, which takes the internal fillet radius of stationary arcing contact, the internal fillet radius of moving contact, the internal fillet radius of external end of dynamic and static contact, the radius of the outer corner of the two static side contacts and the opening distance of the grounding contact as the inputs, and takes the maximum electric field strength of the two static side contacts and the moving side contacts as outputs; Finally, the structural parameters are optimized by MOGOA algorithm. Compared to the pre‐optimization period, the electric field strengths of the bus bar static‐side contact, dynamic contact and static side contact of the B‐phase after optimization decreased from 20.2, 9.28 and 17.5 to 11.4, 6.65 and 11.5 kV/mm, respectively. This makes it difficult for researchers to recruit young children into early intervention trials, which in turn impedes advances in providing effective early interventions to children who need it.To validate externally a predictor set of six variables previously identified to be predictive of language at 11 years of age, using data from the Longitudinal Study of Australian Children (LSAC) birth cohort. Also, to examine whether additional LSAC variables arose as predictive of language outcome.A total of 5107 children were recruited to LSAC with developmental measures collected from 0 to 3 years. At 11–12 years, children completed the Clinical Evaluation of Language Fundamentals, 4th Edition, Recalling Sentences subtest. We used SuperLearner to estimate the accuracy of six previously identified parent‐reported variables from ages 2–3 years in predicting low language (sentence recall score ≥ 1.5 SD below the mean) at 11–12 years. Random forests were used to identify any additional variables predictive of language outcome.Complete data were available for 523 participants (52.20% girls), 27 (5.16%) of whom had a low language score. The six predictors yielded fair accuracy: 78% sensitivity (95% confidence interval (CI) = [58, 91]) and 71% specificity (95% CI = [67, 75]). These predictors relate to sentence complexity, vocabulary and behaviour. The random forests analysis identified similar predictors.We identified an ultra‐short set of variables that predicts 11–12‐year language outcome with ‘fair’ accuracy. In one of few replication studies of this scale in the field, these methods have now been conducted across two population‐based cohorts, with consistent results. An imminent practical implication of these findings is using these predictors to aid recruitment into early language intervention studies. Future research can continue to refine the accuracy of early predictors to work towards earlier identification in a clinical context. Cirrhosis is a liver disease resulting from abnormal continuation of fibrosis, and ultrasound imaging is widely used for cirrhosis diagnosis because of its non‐invasiveness. However, due to unclear appearances of cirrhosis on ultrasound images, diagnoses are difficult and individual results possibly differ depending on the physician's experience. Recently, computer‐aided diagnostic systems using image processing and machine learning have been developed to help physicians detect cirrhosis as a 'Second opinion'. Some related studies have focused on a scenario where physicians set ROIs (Region of Interests) manually because selecting reliable ROIs for training a classifier and classification of patients is indispensable. But, the accuracy of such systems depends inherently on the quality of ROIs, and thus the workloads of physicians increase. In this paper, we propose a reliability evaluation method (REM) for each ROI based on its posterior probability and relationship to peripheral ROIs. The assumption of our proposal is that reliable regions of cirrhosis and normal can be observed in certain regions predominantly. We evaluated the effectiveness of the REM and its optimization for practical use. Advances in computational language models increasingly enable adaptive support for self‐regulated learning (SRL) in digital learning environments (DLEs; eg, via automated feedback). However, the accuracy of those models is a common concern for educational stakeholders (eg, policymakers, researchers, teachers and learners themselves). We compared the accuracy of four Dutch language models (ie, spaCy medium, spaCy large, FastText and ConceptNet NumberBatch) in the context of secondary school students' learning of causal relations from expository texts, scaffolded by causal diagram completion. Since machine learning relies on human‐labelled data for the best results, we used a dataset with 10,193 students' causal diagram answers, compiled over a decade of research using a diagram completion intervention to enhance students' monitoring of their text comprehension. The language models were used in combination with four popular machine learning classifiers (ie, logistic regression, random forests, support vector machine and neural networks) to evaluate their performance on automatically scoring students' causal diagrams in terms of the correctness of events and their sequence (ie, the causal structure). Five performance metrics were studied, namely accuracy, precision, recall, F1 and the area under the curve of the receiver operating characteristic (ROC‐AUC). The spaCy medium model combined with the neural network classifier achieved the best performance for the correctness of causal events in four of the five metrics, while the ConceptNet NumberBatch model worked best for the correctness of the causal sequence. These evaluation results provide a criterion for model adoption to adaptively support SRL of causal relations in DLEs. Machine Learning and Data Mining algorithms are used extensively to enhance the performance of Intrusion Detection Systems. The number of training instances and the dimensionality of data are crucial factors affecting the performance of the model built during the training of any supervised learning algorithms. A sufficient proportion of instances having relevant features from all classes of attacks and normal traffic are considered most desirable while building the classification model that classifies the network traffic into attack and normal. This paper proposes a methodology to improve the accuracy of the model by giving importance to the relevant features that can contribute to model building. The feature selection using correlation‐based and information gain‐based techniques during training and testing contributes much to the detection of stealthier attacks and minority attacks. Then the features of the less detected attacks are identified as the second phase of the filter that is used to improve the performance. The relevant features of stealthy attacks are identified based on the correlation of corresponding features of the attack and normal data as the attacks are made stealthy mostly by making it resemble the normal traffic. Finally, the attacks that are rarely found in the training data are oversampled to improve their detection. CICIDS 2017 data set is employed as it comprises stealthier attacks generated using modern tools. NSL KDD data set is also used for evaluation to compare the proposed work with existing literature as it is used in most of the available literature. This paper describes a novel method for detecting child malnutrition based on artificial intelligence and facial photography. Estimates of severe and moderate acute malnutrition in children are critical for rapid emergency responses. However, the two traditional measurement methods, mid‐upper arm circumference (MUAC) and weight‐for‐height (WFH), are impractical in conflict and catastrophic disaster situations. They require well‐trained enumerators, cumbersome equipment, and close supervision. The Method for Extremely Rapid Observation of Nutritional Status (MERON) addresses the problem, using simple facial photographs. Facial features are extracted to predict Body Mass Index (BMI) in adults and Weight for Height Z Score (WFHZ) in children under five. MERON correctly predicts adult BMI classification with 78% accuracy. A variant of the model, trained on a sample of 3167 children in Kenya, successfully classified 60% of cases. On most measures, MERON was easier and more culturally acceptable to use than the traditional measurement methods. If MERON were to be trained and validated on a larger sample, with more extreme cases, it would provide a practical solution to a recurrent humanitarian problem. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Extraction of important information from medical conversations and dissemination to patients and doctors may benefit in the treatments of doctor tiredness and patient amnesia. Problem: Automatic text summarizing is essential for gaining great knowledge in any topic in an efficient and productive manner. The material included in health records is vital to our understanding of kind illness and its manifestations. Creating a comprehensive and standard kind of content is becoming an unavoidable and crucial problem in the medical process as a result of the massive amounts of fragmented data created in many sectors. Approach: The purpose of this study is to employ NLP‐based deep learning algorithms for text summary that perform well on linguistic text summarization data, and then modify/adapt these for biomedical domain‐specific text summarization. This paper provides an approach developed in‐house for condensing ill‐punctuated or unpunctuated discussion transcripts into more intelligible summaries, which combines topic modelling and phrase selection with punctuation restorations. For autonomous synthesis of medical reports from biomedical transcripts, this research proposes using an end‐to‐end summarization technique, Deep Dense Long Short Term Memory Network (LSTM), followed by Convolutional Neural Network (CNN). Results: Extensive testing, examination, and comparing have demonstrated that this summarizer works well for medical transcript summarization. The suggested approach achieved an average ROUGE score of 93.5% using a single document summary. Furthermore, by comparing new techniques to previous ones, the utility and accuracy of novel strategies would be shown. The crucial part of the software development cycle is software maintenance. The demands included in the software management are fault fixes and request to change or bring a new feature. If priority is not given to these demands, then it may lead to customer dissatisfaction, inefficient planning, and software failure as well. Therefore, it is important to study the severity of the bug reports to maintain the efficiency of the software. Various research has been conducted in the past to predict the severity of the paper using text mining focusing only on the content of the bug reports. The sentiment of the user while reporting a bug also plays a vital role. In this study, we will be focusing on two aspects, that is, sentiment and content to improve the prediction. We propose a prediction model based on LDA to study the content aspect and emotion analysis to study the sentiment aspect. The model is validated on the datasets collected from the Eclipse project using Convolutional Neural Network (CNN). The results show that the CNN model effectively utilizes the content and sentiment aspect of the data to handle the severity prediction. CNN has weight sharing feature that decreases the number of parameters used for training. It also improves generalization and overfitting is avoided The Accuracy, Precision, Recall, and F‐measure are improved when both aspects are taken into account rather than considering only content. In the process of crowdsourced testing, massive bug reports are submitted. Among them, the severity level of the bug report is an important indicator for traigers of crowdsourced platforms to arrange the order of reports efficiently so that developers can prioritize high‐severity defects. A lot of work has been devoted to the study of automatically assigning severity levels to a large number of bug reports in crowdsourcing test systems. The research objects of these works are standard bug reports, focusing on the text part of the report, using various feature engineering methods and classification techniques. However, while achieving good performance, these methods still need to overcome two challenges: no consideration of image information in mobile testing and discontinuous semantic information of words in bug reports. In this paper, we propose a new method of severity prediction by using heterogeneous graph convolutional networks with screenshots (SPHGCN‐S), which combines text features and screenshots information to understand the report more comprehensively. In addition, our approach applies the heterogeneous graph convolutional network (HGCN) architecture, which can capture the global word information to alleviate the semantic problem of word discontinuity and underlying relations between reports. We conduct a comprehensive study to compare seven commonly adopted bug report severity prediction methods with our approach. The evaluation of oxidation and reduction potentials is a pivotal task in various chemical fields. However, their accurate prediction by theoretical computations, which is a complementary task and sometimes the only alternative to experimental measurement, may be often resource‐intensive and time‐consuming. This paper addresses this challenge through the application of machine learning techniques, with a particular focus on graph‐based methods (such as graph edit distances, graph kernels, and graph neural networks) that are reviewed to enlighten their deep links with theoretical chemistry. To this aim, we establish the ORedOx159 database, a comprehensive, homogeneous (with reference values stemming from density functional theory calculations), and reliable resource containing 318 one‐electron reduction and oxidation reactions and featuring 159 large organic compounds. Subsequently, we provide an instructive overview of the good practice in machine learning and of commonly utilized machine learning models. We then assess their predictive performances on the ORedOx159 dataset through extensive analyses. Our simulations using descriptors that are computed in an almost instantaneous way result in a notable improvement in prediction accuracy, with mean absolute error (MAE) values equal to 5.6 kcal mol−1$$ {}^{-1} $$ for reduction and 7.2 kcal mol−1$$ {}^{-1} $$ for oxidation potentials, which paves a way toward efficient in silico design of new electrochemical systems. Objectives Methods Results Conclusion To investigate health consumers' ethical concerns towards the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in EDs.Qualitative semi‐structured interviews with health consumers, recruited via health consumer networks and community groups, interviews conducted between January and August 2022.We interviewed 28 health consumers about their perceptions towards the ethical use of AI in EDs. The results discussed in this paper highlight the challenges and barriers for the effective and ethical implementation of AI from the perspective of Australian health consumers. Most health consumers are more likely to support AI health tools in EDs if they continue to be involved in the decision‐making process. There is considerably more approval of AI tools that support clinical decision‐making, as opposed to replacing it. There is mixed sentiment about the acceptability of AI tools influencing clinical decision‐making and judgement. Health consumers are mostly supportive of the use of their data to train and develop AI tools but are concerned with who has access. Addressing bias and discrimination in AI is an important consideration for some health consumers. Robust regulation and governance are critical for health consumers to trust and accept the use of AI.Health consumers view AI as an emerging technology that they want to see comprehensively regulated to ensure it functions safely and securely with EDs. Background Methods Results Conclusion Knowledge graphs (KGs) remain an underutilized tool in the field of psychiatric research. In the broader biomedical field KGs are already a significant tool mainly used as knowledge database or for novel relation detection between biomedical entities. This review aims to outline how KGs would further research in the field of psychiatry in the age of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Large Language Models (LLMs).We conducted a thorough literature review across a spectrum of scientific fields ranging from computer science and knowledge engineering to bioinformatics. The literature reviewed was taken from PubMed, Semantic Scholar and Google Scholar searches including terms such as “Psychiatric Knowledge Graphs”, “Biomedical Knowledge Graphs”, “Knowledge Graph Machine Learning Applications”, “Knowledge Graph Applications for Biomedical Sciences”. The resulting publications were then assessed and accumulated in this review regarding their possible relevance to future psychiatric applications.A multitude of papers and applications of KGs in associated research fields that are yet to be utilized in psychiatric research was found and outlined in this review. We create a thorough recommendation for other computational researchers regarding use‐cases of these KG applications in psychiatry.This review illustrates use‐cases of KG‐based research applications in biomedicine and beyond that may aid in elucidating the complex biology of psychiatric illness and open new routes for developing innovative interventions. We conclude that there is a wealth of opportunities for KG utilization in psychiatric research across a variety of application areas including biomarker discovery, patient stratification and personalized medicine approaches. Rainfall is an important phenomenon for various aspects of human life and the environment. Accurate prediction of rainfall is crucial for a wide range of sectors, including agriculture, water resources management, energy production, disaster management and many more. The ability to predict rainfall in an accurate fashion enables stakeholders to make informed decisions and take necessary actions to mitigate the impacts of natural disasters, water scarcity and other issues related to rainfall. In addition, advances in rainfall prediction technologies have the potential to contribute to sustainable water management and the preservation of water resources by providing the necessary information for decision‐makers to plan and implement effective water management strategies. Hence, it is important to continuously improve the accuracy of rainfall prediction. In this paper, the integration of the maximum overlap discrete wavelet transform (MODWT) and machine learning algorithms for daily rainfall prediction is proposed. The main objective of this study is to investigate the potential of combining MODWT with various machine‐learning algorithms to increase the accuracy of rainfall prediction and extend the forecast time horizon to 3 days. In addition, the performances of the proposed hybrid models are contrasted with the models hybridized with commonly used discrete wavelet transform (DWT) algorithms in the literature. For this, daily rainfall raw data from three rainfall observation stations located in Turkey are used. The results show that the proposed hybrid MODWT models can effectively improve the accuracy of precipitation forecasting, based on model evaluation measures such as mean square error (MSE) and Nash‐Sutcliffe coefficient of efficiency (CE). Fiber‐reinforced hydrogel composites are widely employed in many engineering applications, such as drug release, and flexible electronics, with more flexible mechanical properties than pure hydrogel materials. Comparing to the hydrogel strengthened by continuous fiber, the meta‐fiber reinforced hydrogel provides stronger individualized design ability of deformation patterns and tunable stiffness, especially for the elaborate applications in joint, cartilage, and organ. In this paper, a novel structure design strategy based on deep learning algorithm is proposed for hydrogel reinforced by meta‐fiber to achieve targeted mechanical properties, such as stress and displacement fields. A solid mechanic model for meta‐fiber reinforced hydrogel is first developed to construct the dataset of fiber distribution and the corresponding mechanical properties of the composite. Generative adversarial network (GAN) is then trained to characterize the relationship between stress or displacement field, and meta‐fiber distribution. The well‐trained GAN is implemented to design meta‐fiber reinforced hydrogel composite structure under specific operation conditions. The results show that the deep learning method may efficiently predict the structure of the hydrogel composite with satisfied confidence, and has great potential for applications in drug delivery and flexible electronics. Cancer has been the leading cause of death among Japanese since 1981, and many people die from it every year worldwide. While various measures have been taken to reduce the mortality rate of cancer, circulating tumor cells (CTCs) in the blood have been attracting attention in recent years. In the past, CTCs were detected by visual inspection by a physician or by an expensive machine, but these methods required much effort by the physician and required only EpCAM‐expressing cells to be detected. In addition, detection by image processing has been used, but it has the problem that the area of interest is only a part of the area and there are many false positives. In this paper, we propose a two‐step classification method that focuses on the shape and surface of cells. In the proposed method, multiple shape and surface features are obtained for four types of cells in blood images: Clusters, CTCs, Normal Cells, and Vertical Cells. Based on the features, cells are classified using a two‐step Random Forest and their accuracy is evaluated. This paper (i) explores the internal structure of two quantum mechanics datasets (QM7b, QM9), composed of several thousands of organic molecules and described in terms of electronic properties, and (ii) further explores an inverse design approach to molecular design consisting of using machine learning methods to approximate the atomic composition of molecules, using QM9 data. Understanding the structure and characteristics of this kind of data is important when predicting the atomic composition from physical‐chemical properties in inverse molecular designs. Intrinsic dimension analysis, clustering, and outlier detection methods were used in the study. They revealed that for both datasets the intrinsic dimensionality is several times smaller than the descriptive dimensions. The QM7b data is composed of well‐defined clusters related to atomic composition. The QM9 data consists of an outer region predominantly composed of outliers, and an inner, core region that concentrates clustered inliner objects. A significant relationship exists between the number of atoms in the molecule and its outlier/inliner nature. The spatial structure exhibits a relationship with molecular weight. Despite the structural differences between the two datasets, the predictability of variables of interest for inverse molecular design is high. This is exemplified by models estimating the number of atoms of the molecule from both the original properties and from lower dimensional embedding spaces. In the generative approach the input is given by a set of desired properties of the molecule and the output is an approximation of the atomic composition in terms of its constituent chemical elements. This could serve as the starting region for further search in the huge space determined by the set of possible chemical compounds. The quantum mechanic's dataset QM9 is used in the study, composed of 133,885 small organic molecules and 19 electronic properties. Different multi‐target regression approaches were considered for predicting the atomic composition from the properties, including feature engineering techniques in an auto‐machine learning framework. High‐quality models were found that predict the atomic composition of the molecules from their electronic properties, as well as from a subset of only 52.6% size.
