In higher education, a limited number of studies have been conducted on the relationship between lifestyle and creativity and dating back to more than 50 years ago. This study investigates the up-to-date results of the relationship between university students' lifestyles and their creative ideation. The data was collected two times in order to perform Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) and Hierarchical Regression Analysis. The participants consisted of 233 students for EFA, whereas regression analysis consisted of 239 students from five public universities across Thailand. The data was analyzed using 'R Programing Language' to obtain the results. The study revealed that in a collectivist culture society like Thailand, student lifestyles consist of five dimensions, i.e., family-oriented, community consciousness, modern, family concern, and traditional lifestyle. The correlation results showed that community consciousness and a modern lifestyle were significantly associated with creative ideation after controlling for gender and age variables. In contrast, family concern, family-oriented, and a traditional lifestyle were not. These findings suggest that undergraduate students who endorse modern and community consciousness lifestyles were likely to perform better in generating creative ideas.

Abstract Word recognition is a gateway to language, linking sound to meaning. Prior work has characterized its cognitive mechanisms as a form of competition between similar-sounding words. However, it has not identified dimensions along which this competition varies across people. We sought to identify these dimensions in a population of cochlear implant users with heterogenous backgrounds and audiological profiles, and in a lifespan sample of people without hearing loss. Our study characterizes the process of lexical competition using the Visual World Paradigm. A principal component analysis reveals that people’s ability to resolve lexical competition varies along three dimensions that mirror prior small-scale studies. These dimensions capture the degree to which lexical access is delayed (“Wait-and-See”), the degree to which competition fully resolves (“Sustained-Activation”), and the overall rate of activation. Each dimension is predicted by a different auditory skills and demographic factors (onset of deafness, age, cochlear implant experience). Moreover, each dimension predicts outcomes (speech perception in quiet and noise, subjective listening success) over and above auditory fidelity. Higher degrees of Wait-and-See and Sustained-Activation predict poorer outcomes. These results suggest the mechanisms of word recognition vary along a few underlying dimensions which help explain variable performance among listeners encountering auditory challenge.

AbstractThis work builds upon previous research to assess the associations between underlying dimensions of racial residential segregation and police-caused homicide of Black civilians. Previous scholars have observed that much of the existing work on residential segregation and police-caused homicide has used one measure of segregation, most commonly the dissimilarity index, although recent work has expanded the focus to include multiple indicators of segregation. Our research extends this research by computing multiple measures of racial residential segregation for a sample of U.S. Core Based Statistical Areas in 2010 and factor analyzing them to identify underlying dimensions. Measures of the resulting dimensions are merged with the Mapping Police Violence data on police-caused homicide. The analyses reaffirm and extend previous conclusions about the importance of spatial relationships within residential locations for understanding contemporary police-caused homicide, while raising questions about the underlying theoretical mechanisms. BackgroundResearch suggests four modal trajectories of psychological symptoms after traumatic injury: Resilient, Chronic, Delayed Onset, Recovery. However, most studies focus on symptoms of psychiatric disorders (e.g., posttraumatic stress disorder, depression), which are limited by heterogeneity and symptom overlap. We examined trajectories of cross-cutting posttraumatic symptom dimensions following traumatic injury and predictors of trajectory membership.MethodsIn this longitudinal study of 427 predominantly Hispanic/Latino traumatic injury survivors, posttraumatic psychopathology symptoms were assessed during hospitalization and approximately one and five months post-trauma. Using latent class growth analysis, we estimated trajectories of several posttraumatic symptom dimensions: re-experiencing, avoidance, anxious arousal, numbing, dysphoric arousal, loss, and threat. We then examined sociodemographic and trauma-related characteristics (measured during hospitalization) as predictors of trajectory membership for each dimension.ResultsFour trajectories (Resilient, Chronic, Delayed Onset, Recovery) emerged for all dimensions except loss and threat, which manifested three trajectories (Resilient, Chronic, Delayed Onset). Across dimensions, membership in the Chronic (vs. Resilient) trajectory was consistently predicted by unemployment (7 of 7 dimensions), followed by older age (3/7), female sex (3/7), and assaultive trauma (2/7). For several dimensions, unemployment also distinguished between participants who presented with similar symptom levels days after trauma, but then diverged over time.LimitationsMeasures of posttraumatic symptom dimension constructs differed across assessments.ConclusionsThis study provides evidence of distinct trajectories across transdiagnostic symptom dimensions after traumatic injury. Employment status emerged as the most important predictor of trajectory membership. Research is needed to better understand the etiologies and consequences of these posttraumatic symptom dimension trajectories.

In this study we examined the DSM-5 factor structure of scores on the Turkish version of the posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) Checklist for DSM-5 (PCL-5) and predictors of PTSD caseness in a sample of male prisoners. The 7-factor hybrid model was the optimal model relative to the alternatives. Consistent with the PTSD literature in prisoners, the majority of respondents had past traumatic experiences (96.7%), a probable PTSD diagnosis (68.4%), pathological dissociation (46.8%) and somatoform dissociation (52.3%). Probable PTSD caseness was significantly associated with dissociation and depression, as well as higher levels of education and being married. Re-experiencing was strongly associated with mental and somatic dissociation; whereas dysphoric arousal was related to depression and anxiety.

Background/Objective: The available information pertaining to the attitudes of Brazilian physical education teachers about teaching students with disabilities is limited in the extant literature base. Rationally, however, scholars argue that determining, analyzing, and theorizing about the attitudes of physical education teachers is important in the preparation and professional development of these teachers. It is therefore important to extend the research base using valid and reliable measures regarding teachers' attitudes about inclusion and teaching students with various disabilities. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the underlying dimensions of the "Physical Educators' Judgments about Inclusion" ("PEJI") scale following translation procedures that converted the existing measure to Portuguese. The PEJI was designed to analyze teachers' attitudes about inclusion and teaching students with various disabilities. Method: Using a descriptive survey research design, data were collected from 147 participants (women = 57.1%, men = 42.9%) on the PEJI survey instrument. Results: Principal component analysis resulted in salient loadings on three dimensions consistent with prior study using the PEJI and explained 57% of the variance for measuring judgments about: "Inclusion versus Exclusion, Acceptance of Students with Disabilities," and "Perceived Training Needs." Conclusions: The overall results confirm validity of the PEJI survey consistent with prior study on this measure. The strong magnitude of values indicates that each of the subscales measures separate dimensions of judgments (attitudes). Implications for future use, we recommend reporting individual scale scores rather than a total PEJI score.

This paper aims to define the underlying dimensions of unemployment benefits in Slovenia using the principal component approach. We identified three determinants of unemployment benefits: the general economic environment, social protection, and the functioning of the labour market. Results of the research show that the poorer the general economic environment, the greater the pressure on unemployment benefits. Second, the more generous the social protection on the labour market is, the higher the pressure on unemployment benefits. Third, poor functioning of the labour market increases the pressure on unemployment benefits, although the last effect was found not to be statistically significant. Objective: The objective of this paper is to explore the underlying dimensions of quality of work life (QWL) in the Nigerian hotel industry. Research Design & Methods:With a defined population of 3.110, a sample size of 355 was determined using probability technique, which formed the participants of the study. Employing the Delphi technique, eight experts and four cycles of inputs led to a consensual number of sixty-three indicators of QWL which formed the final inventory or variables of the quality of work life dimensions used for exploratory factor analysis. Exploratory factor analysis with varimax rotation was employed. Kaiser criterion, examination of the scree plot and Horn parallel analysis (Horn, 1965) guided factor extraction. Findings:Preliminary assessment conducted confirmed the appropriateness of the dataset for factor analysis. Furthermore, based on the extraction criteria, five factors were extracted which explained 59.37% of the total variance in QWL in the Nigerian hotel industry, labelled as remuneration and benefits, job security and career satisfaction, training and opportunities for personal autonomy, home-work balance and safe and healthy environment. Implications & Recommendations: The Nigerian hotel industry should focus on the QWL factors which the study reports as most considered by employees. The study has also identified the dimensions of QWL in the Nigerian hotel industry. Contribution & Value Added:This study identifies the latent variables that show QWL in the Nigerian hotel industry, which are labelled as remuneration and benefits, job security and career satisfaction, training and personal autonomy, home-life balance and safe and healthy environment. The managerial implication is that owners and operators of hotels in Nigeria can benefit by understanding what quality of work life entails and which indicators show the concept.

The present work builds on prior development of the Everyday Spatial Behavioral Questionnaire (ESBQ), a measure of self-reported difficulty in performing familiar activities that involve spatial thinking. We used exploratory confirmatory modeling to identify nine first-order factors hypothesized to relate to theoretical constructs. We further identified three second-order factors distinguished by the intrinsic/extrinsic dimension of Newcombe and Shipley (2015). Gender effects on first-order factors clustered in two of our three proposed second-order groupings. Future validation of the ESBQ with spatial tests and behavioral measures is needed for determining its construct validity and potential use in diagnosis of spatial cognition disorders. How often and for how long a certain object was encountered are two distinct questions, requiring two distinct answers. But when humans judge an object to have been presented often, they usually also judge it to have been presented for a long duration. Under certain conditions the reverse is also true: When an object has been presented for a long time, humans think it has been presented often. These mutual influences hint at a single underlying dimension on which judgments of frequency and duration are based. But the judgments also differ in certain respects, which instead speaks for two independent dimensions. In this article, from a novel formal perspective, we revisit arguments for and against unidimensional and two-dimensional models. To determine which of these models is supported empirically, we analyzed all available studies and tested an overlooked but critical condition that would allow us to draw a definitive conclusion. Our evidence speaks against a unidimensional model in all variants.

Meta-accuracy (correspondence between how we think others perceive us and how they really perceive us) of first impressions on the Internet has the potential to shape subsequent interactions. Aiming to enhance understanding of the underlying perceptual dimensions, the contribution of social competence, and the existence of positive/negative bias in first impressions’ meta-accuracy online, we conducted a study in a simulated asynchronous social-media-type setting. Target participants uploaded a selfie, wrote a short description of themselves, provided estimates of how warm and competent they believed others would find them based on their selfies and texts (metaperception), and completed two social competence questionnaires (general and Internet-specific). Perceiver participants assessed the warmth and competence of the selfies and texts as well (others’ perception). Meta-accuracy was measured as the absolute difference between metaperception and others’ perception. Through correlational analyses, we confirmed that meta-accuracy of first impressions on the Internet aligned with the universal dimensions of social cognition (warmth and competence), found sporadic evidence for the positive association between meta-accuracy and social competence, and showed that meta-accuracy for specific Internet expressive means varied with varying proficiency in these means. Through t-tests, we demonstrated positive meta-accuracy bias for selfies along the warmth dimension and negative bias for text along the competence dimension. Overall, our results suggest the primacy of warmth and uniqueness of the male targets-female perceivers combination for meta-accuracy on the Internet. Our findings expand knowledge about first impressions’ meta-accuracy on the Internet.

This study investigated the personality facets that underpin the construct of problem-solving style, particularly when approaching more creative kinds of problem-solving. Cattell's Sixteen Personality Factors Questionnaire and VIEW--An Assessment of Problem Solving Style were administered to 165 students from the Norwegian Business School. We explored relationships through correlational and regression analysis. Personality profiles were derived for each of VIEW's three dimensions and were in generally expected directions. Those with an Explorer preference were more imaginative and idea oriented, open to change, unconventional, freethinking, and flexible than Developers. Those with a Developer preference were more practical and solution oriented, more traditional, rule conscious, conservative, and respecting of traditional ideas. Those with an External preference were more group oriented, affiliative, socially bold, warm, and attentive to others than those with an Internal preference. Those with a more Task-oriented preference were more impersonal, detached, utilitarian, and tough minded than those with Person-oriented preference. We outlined implications and suggestions for further research.

We report results from two studies on the underlying dimensions of morphological awareness and vocabulary knowledge in elementary-aged children. In Study 1, 99 fourth-grade students were given multiple measures of morphological awareness and vocabulary. A single factor accounted for individual differences in all morphology and vocabulary assessments. Study 2 extended these results by giving 90 eighth-grade students expanded measures of vocabulary and morphology that assessed (a) definitional knowledge, (b) usage, (c) relational knowledge, and (d) knowledge of morphological variants, with each potential aspect of knowledge assessed using an identical set of 23 words to control for differential knowledge of specific vocabulary items. Results indicated that a single-factor model that encompassed morphological and vocabulary knowledge provided the best fit to the data. Finally, explanatory item response modeling was used to investigate sources of variance in the vocabulary and morphological awareness tasks we administered. Implications for assessment and instruction are discussed.

Purpose: For cancer survivors, social functioning greatly influences other quality of life dimensions. While there is potential for differences in social functioning to vary as a function of geographic residence, few studies examine the social functioning of rural cancer survivors specifically. This study aims to help fill this gap., Methods: This was an embedded mixed-methods study where all participants completed a questionnaire, and some were purposively selected to complete an interview to gather more information about social functioning (ie, social roles, activities, network, support, and constraint). Participants (n = 93; 63% rural) were recruited through a state cancer registry and cancer care facility. Participants were predominately White, non-Hispanic (92.47%), roughly half female (54.84%), and on average, diagnosed in the past two years (SD = 1.68), and 61.45 (SD = 10.87) years old., Findings: Few differences in the social functioning of rural and nonrural participants were found on questionnaires, though rural participants reported larger networks and more overall support. Across groups, common themes in the interview data were the experience of both social support (eg, instrumental support) and social constraint (eg, others minimizing participants' problems or sharing their own negative experiences)., Conclusions: This was the first cancer survivorship study to thoroughly examine social functioning by geographic residence. Rural cancer survivors described some unique strengths, but major group differences were not apparent. All participants highlighted situations when others, even with good intentions, were unhelpful to them. In recent Marketing Researches it has seen a strong Trend to understand the organization customer experience. The purpose of this research is to gain understanding of this in the banking industry using the Netnography qualitative Methodology. Nethnography qualitative Methodology is a kind of Ethnographic Methodology using the growing potential of the Internet and social networks that is useful for understanding the organizational customers' opinions. It hasn’t been done many researches with this Method. This study examined the opinions of social networks users of Iranian banks such as Facebook and LinkedIn and analysed the customer experiences in this industry and extracted categories covering: information and communication, training, facilities, customer-orientation, brand, speed, service quality and innovation. Finally, this study provides some suggestions for banks.
