This study investigates the integration of language models for knowledge extraction (KE) from Italian TEI/XML encoded texts, focusing on Giacomo Leopardi's works. The objective is to create structured, machine-readable knowledge graphs (KGs) from unstructured texts for better exploration and linkage to external resources. The research introduces a methodology that combines large language models (LLMs) with traditional relation extraction (RE) algorithms to overcome the limitations of current models with Italian literary documents. The process adopts a multilingual LLM, that is, ChatGPT, to extract natural language triples from the text. These are then converted into RDF/XML format using the REBEL model, which maps natural language relations to Wikidata properties. A similarity-based filtering mechanism using SBERT is applied to keep semantic consistency. The final RDF graph integrates these filtered triples with document metadata, utilizing established ontologies and controlled vocabularies. The research uses a dataset of 41 TEI/XML files from a semi-diplomatic edition of Leopardi's letters as case study. The proposed KE pipeline significantly outperformed the baseline model, that is, mREBEL, with remarkable improvements in semantic accuracy and consistency. An ablation study demonstrated that combining LLMs with traditional RE models enhances the quality of KGs extracted from complex texts. The resulting KG had fewer, but semantically richer, relations, predominantly related to Leopardi's literary activities and health, highlighting the extracted knowledge's relevance to understanding his life and work.

The importance of psychological factors is manifested in the ability of students to acquire knowledge, gaining skills, perception of educational information, attitude to others, mutual understanding with people around. Taking this into consideration, the purpose of the academic paper is to study the basic aspects of the development of teachers' professional competence in the context of transformational processes in education. Such methods as: theoretical analysis, description, comparison, synthesis, grouping, measurement, observation and experiment, have been used in order to achieve the purpose and objectives outlined in the academic paper. It has been established that the motivation of students to carry out educational and professional activities is a set of psychological factors, through the influence of which the interconnection between the motivation and desire of the student to study is conducted. In the course of the investigation, it has been found that the influence of psychological factors is quite effective in the case of motivating students to study. It has been proven that increasing the motivation of students to study is possible through: a common learning environment in the students' collective; students' participation in discussions, conferences, competitions; work in groups; application of innovative technological methods of studying educational material.

This article outlines a crip archival analysis of Karen Tei Yamashita's creative family memoir Letters to Memory (2017) and the separate Yamashita Family Archives; the analysis revolves around the concept of disorder. The book and digital archives move the daily lived experience of incarceration out of chronological order, encouraging new connections across a massive collection of materials: letters, photographs, federal surveillance documents, paintings, sermons, and other ephemera surrounding World War II Japanese American incarceration. Their respective acts of assembling and retelling destabilize the dominant narrative of a resolved family or national trauma to reflect divergent embodied experiences of distress and disability effected by racial debilitation. Offering concentric analysis of textual and archival reordering via Asian American studies, disability studies, and digital humanities, this article adds alternative dimensions to the ongoing legacy of incarceration by inviting readers to create new constellations of meaning through examining temporal and embodied disorder. Reading the physical book and digital archives together also acts as a model for how literary studies scholars might complicate our attention to embodiment beyond narrative analysis, by thinking about disability and madness in the design and structure of texts and digital media. Through cripping the archive, the author calls for a reconceptualization of mad and disabled bodyminds as not only content to be examined, but also users and creators whose disorder animates alternative ways of knowing personal and state violence. Objective: Doppler-derived myocardial performance index (Tei) has been used in the evaluation of right ventricular (RV) function. However, the usage in isolated diastolic dysfunction is limited.We sought to find a new Tei’-index that is more appropriate for evaluating isolated diastolic dysfunction (IDD) based on the symmetry of cardiac structure and function. Methods: 21 patients with impaired RV relaxation were compared to 44 control subjects. Tei and Tei’ including their components, isovolumetric relaxation time (IRT), isovolumetric contraction time (ICT), the ejection time (ET), and RV rapid filling time (RFT) were measured from RV outflow and tricuspid inflow Doppler velocity profiles. Results: Tei-index have no change between IDD group and control subjects (0.21 ± 0.08 vs 0.23 ± 0.07 PNS). The Tei’-index was significantly shortened in IDD group(0.24 ± 0.09 vs 0.32 ± 0.12,p＜0.05).The decrease in Tei’-index was due to the prolongation of both IRT and RFT, and in the abbreviation of ICT. Tei’-index cutoff value of ≥0.31 identified impaired RV relaxation with a sensitivity of 50 % and specificity of 86 %.We also find that the Tei’-index correlated well with doppler measures of diastolic parameters like E/A, E/e’, DT, which suggests its potential use as a noninvasive indicator of the right ventricular (RV) relaxation in patients with heart failure of different causes. Conclusion: New Tei's index is highly effective and specific in the evaluation of early diastolic dysfunction of right ventricle, and can be used as an indicator for the detection of IDD in clinic.

Introduction: The Global Registry of Acute Coronary Events (GRACE) risk score is widely recommended for risk assessment in patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI). Variable degrees of impairment in left ventricular (LV) systolic and diastolic function might be found after AMI. Tei index is an echocardiography parameter that represents both systolic and diastolic LV performance. Previous studies demonstrate Tei index as an independent predictor of Major Adverse Cardiovascular Events (MACE) after AMI. This study investigates whether the addition of Tei index could improve the GRACE risk score performance to predict inhospital MACE after AMI.

In this article we analyze the results obtained in a survey on the use of the Text Encoding Initiative for Digital Humanities projects in Spanish that was conducted in early 2022 within the project “Communicating the Text Encoding Initiative to a Multilingual User Community” funded by the A. Mellon Foundation. The main objectives of our analysis are to understand who conforms the TEI user community in the Spanish-speaking world or in Spanish text-related initiatives, what types of TEI-related academic training is offered today, how and for what purposes this type of text encoding is used, and what are the existing resources for teaching and learning.

The 3D integrated circuit (3D-IC) is garnering significant attention from academia and industry as a key technology leading the post-Moore era, offering new levels of efficiency, power, performance, and form-factor advantages to the semiconductor industry. However, thermal management in 3D-ICs presents a critical challenge that must be overcome to ensure prosperity for this technology. Unlike traditional thermal management solutions that perceive heat generation in 3D-ICs negatively and aim to eliminate it, this paper proposes, for the first time, a thermal management method that positively utilizes heat to achieve low-power operation in 3D-ICs. This approach is based on a novel discovery that circuits can reduce power consumption at higher temperatures by leveraging the temperature effect inversion (TEI) phenomenon in ultralow-voltage (ULV) operating circuits, a characteristic of low-power techniques (TEI-LP techniques). Along with a detailed explanation of this discovery, this paper introduces new thermal management technologies for practical application in 3D-ICs. Furthermore, to achieve optimal energy efficiency with the proposed technology, we develop a temperature controller essential for this purpose. The developed controller is a deep learning-based PID autotuner. This paper proves the theoretical validity of the AI control algorithm designed for this purpose and demonstrates the functional correctness and power-saving effectiveness of the developed controller through intensively conducted simulations.

Bullying is a phenomenon that afflicts millions of students around the world, severely harming their emotional and psychological well-being. In response to this challenge, the TEI program (Tutoría Entre Iguales or Peer Tutoring) has been developed as a bullying prevention strategy, aiding students in acquiring social skills and emotional strategies for conflict resolution. The purpose of this research is to examine social skills and empathy among different actors involved in bullying (non-involved, victim, bully, and bully-victim) among secondary school students and to evaluate the impact of the TEI program on the development of relational competencies. A comparative, ex post facto study was conducted in three schools where the TEI program has been implemented (TEI schools) and three where it has not (non-TEI schools). A total of 738 secondary school students (ESO) participated in the study, using a standardized questionnaire to evaluate their perception of bullying. The results of this study demonstrate higher levels of assertiveness and empathy in the non-involved and victim groups. However, lower levels of conflict resolution skills were found in the bully-victim group. In TEI schools, a higher percentage of students not involved in bullying and a lower percentage of bully-victims were observed. Additionally, students in TEI schools scored higher in assertiveness, conflict resolution skills, social skills, and empathy. These findings highlight the importance of developing students’ relational competencies and implementing strategies for bullying prevention to create a safe, healthy, and positive learning environment in schools.

Despite the flexibility that a TEI-based workflow offers for preparing editions based on collating several manuscripts, textual scholars working with XML-TEI edition files face a lack of domain-specific auxiliary tools. The TEI-CAT partially fills this gap by providing interfaces for visualizing the transcription of different manuscripts and for exploring the encoded variations and detecting common mistakes. While not properly supporting several types of textual variation and editorial intervention, these tools satisfy most of the needs usually arising during transcription and collation. The image annotation tool complements them by allowing users to generate TEI-compliant code. This tool very flexibly describes or comments on facsimile layout and content and thus is particularly helpful in preparing digital editions. Finally, the PDF-via-LaTeX exporting facility extends the scope of the toolbox towards traditional paper-based publishing, which often remains an editor’s ultimate goal. However, this tool requires adopting specific encoding practices, which are not made explicit and may not match the user’s choices; its output needs manual modifications in some cases. Together, these tools partially illustrate how the XML-TEI format can be used to prepare critical editions. They constitute an important step towards creating a TEI-based digital environment in this field.

This article is greatly inspired by the mobilities paradigm in its investigation of the transnational novel Tropic of Orange by Karen Tei Yamashita by paying attention to a particular form of mobility, walking, practiced by the marginalized migrants in the landscapes. It argues that the novel reveals walking firstly as an alternative mobility for those migrants to claim for the visibility of the overlooked landscapes where they inhabit; secondly as an imposed form of mobility on the migrants, who perceive mobility injustice in the construction of the taken for granted landscape, the freeway; and thirdly as an oppositional mobility to be used by the migrants to claim landscape and home. In this way, transnational fiction would enrich the studies on walking by drawing attention to the connection between walking, marginalized migrants and landscapes, taking into consideration mobility (in)justice; it would also contribute to the exploration of various forms of oppositional mobilities; but most important of all, it would add one more layer to the discussion about mobility by connecting the exploration of mobility to that of landscape construction and finally to the envisioning of a new approach to home. The article introduces into scientific discourse the new petroglyphs of the Ulug-Khem Depression in the Republic of Tuva. The main focus of research is a new monument of rock art - the sanctuary of the Ala-Tei sacred mountain. Rock images from Ala-Tei have many direct analogies in the rock art of Tuva and other re­gions of Central Asia, and Southern Siberia, at the same time being unique, and some petroglyphs has no direct parallels among the petroglyphs of the Ulug-Khem Depression, or the Sayan Gorge of Yenisei. The following items were found during the exploration: two humanoid figures with plot of the «Sacred Marriage», images of stags and oxen, images of horns, astral and cosmogonic symbols and tamgas. There are many images of the beasts of the Bronze Age, Scythian and Ancient Turkic periods. The purpose of the author’s scientific work is to shed light on the history of the Ala-Tei sacred mountain, and its sacral rock art.

Se presenta una propuesta metodológica de análisis de los paratextos de Lope de Vega que parte de la experiencia de un proyecto de investigación en curso: «Prácticas editoriales y sociabilidad literaria en torno a Lope de Vega» (UCO-FEDER 2018 - 1262510 - ). El proyecto conjuga el estudio de las fuentes primarias con métodos y herramientas de las Humanidades Digitales. De acuerdo con ello, la propuesta se organiza en tres fases: 1) compilación y edición de todos los paratextos en torno a Lope, tanto los escritos por él como los que le dirigieron otros autores; 2) etiquetado semántico TEI; 3) página web de acceso libre a todos los paratextos y a tres buscadores para su consulta y estudio.

TEITOK is a web-based system designed to bring scholarly editing and computational linguistics together with the purpose of creating and hosting online language corpora. The system offers a visually attractive environment for digital editing based on the XML/TEI standard. TEITOK consists of automatic processes for carrying out many linguistic text processing tasks and functions. It boasts an intuitive interface via which researchers and corpus creators, who are not always computer literate, can manage corpus maintenance and error correction. The tokenization strategy in TEITOK permits the linking of the different levels of editing and annotation of each word in a single XML document for subsequent retrieval of information. This method provides a tool for editing, annotating, and exploiting corpora with a powerful search engine. TEITOK stands out for its high customisation and adaptability to a wide variety of corpora. In this article we analyse its utilities oriented mainly towards the creation of historical corpora, taking for this purpose the particular case of Oralia diacrónica del español (ODE).

The present paper describes the specific contribution of the TEI Lex-0 initiative, which aims to define a terser subset of the TEI Guidelines for the representation of etymological features in dictionary entries. Going beyond the basic provision of etymological mechanisms in the TEI Guidelines, TEI Lex-0 Etym proposes a systematic representation of etymological and cognate descriptions by means of embedded constructs based on the (for etymologies) and (for etymons and cognates) elements. In particular, given that all the potential contents of etymons are highly analogous to those of dictionary entries in general, the contents presented herein heavily reuse many of the corresponding features and constraints introduced in other components of TEI Lex-0 for the encoding of etymologies and etymons. The TEI Lex-0 Etym model is also closely aligned with ISO 24613–3 on modeling etymological data and the corresponding TEI serialization available in ISO 24613–4.

This essay argues that Karen Tei Yamashita's Tropic of Orange deploys an aesthetics of global weirding. Yamashita's novel relates a series of increasingly bizarre phenomena that occur across Los Angeles in a single week. Tying these occurrences together is the motif of the orange, a strange fruit whose persistent presence in the novel provides the key to the conspiratorial cartographies of climate change's globally weird effects. Tropic of Orange ultimately deploys the orange as a tropic figure that conceptualizes the multiple scales of the ecoapocalypse as one predicated on the paranoid faith that everything is connected.
