The purpose of this study is to explore the realization of users' information rights (IRs) in the smart service of university libraries. Based on the LibQUAL model, principal component analysis (PCA) is used to measure the quality of smart services in university libraries. The contribution weight of various services to the realization of IRs is calculated by analytic hierarchy process (AHP), then the degree of IR realization is obtained. Users have the highest right to express information, the lowest right to equality, and other rights tend to be moderate. Suggestions to improve the realization of IRs are put forward at the end.

This study examines data from a survey conducted at a U.S. public research university, focusing on students' behaviors and attitudes toward the library, both physical and online. The analysis categorizes student users and nonusers based on demographics such as full-time enrollment, first-generation status, college, and grade point average (GPA). Results indicate that first-generation students were most likely to never use the online library. Low GPA respondents visited the physical library most frequently, whereas high GPA students were more inclined to use e-resources. This paper reports on a study of 58 urban teen public library users that sought to understand teens' recreational reading behavior in the context of their digital experiences, among other influences. The study's primary research questions were (1) What strategies do teen public library users employ to select recreational books? and (2) What external and internal factors influence their choices? Participants were surveyed on the strategies they used to select recreational reading material. They reported physically browsing for books and gathering recommendations from social media and websites as well as getting recommendations from people. However, survey respondents did not use social media to make recreational reading choices as often as expected. Another surprising finding was that educational motivations for recreational reading were slightly stronger than social/emotional motivations. Although this study was too small in scope to generalize to all teens, it confirms findings from previous studies that teens continue to engage in recreational reading for a variety of reasons, get reading recommendations from adults and peers, and are sometimes influenced in their reading choices by their digital lives. The purpose of this study was to investigate the gap between library users' expected and perceived library services and to examine the role of library services in developing user satisfaction and loyalty. A quantitative research design using a questionnaire was used to investigate the research objectives. Undergraduate students were selected as the population from the Information Technology University. The questionnaire was adopted from previous literature. It was pilot tested with 50 undergraduate students and found reliable. Data was collected from 304 respondents and were analyzed using SPSS (v.20) software. The study found that library users expected a high level of service in three categories, i.e., Affect of Service, Information Control, and Library as a Place, as all mean scores were higher than 7 when rated against a scale from 1 to 9. The participants reported that they were likely to consult the library and recommend it to others. The structural equation model confirmed that better services will increase users' satisfaction with the library resources and services and will lead to winning users' loyalty. The findings from the study provided useful insight into the determinants of user satisfaction and loyalty and could be useful for other academic libraries seeking ways to increase user loyalty and user satisfaction with library resources and services. This study examined boredom and demographics as predictors of internet addiction among polytechnic library users in South-South, Nigeria. The study adopted the correlational research design. The population for the study was 3,302 library users from which a sample size of 412 library users in five federal polytechnics using the multi-stage sampling technique was selected. The instrument used for data collection was the questionnaire. The study found that the extent of boredom among polytechnic library users in South-South, Nigeria is great (3.56 > 3.00). It also emerged that there is strong relationship between boredom and Internet addiction among polytechnic library users in South-South Nigeria (r = 0.446, 0.000 < 0.05). Demographics (r = -.035, 0.484, < 0.05) have weak relationship and do not significantly predict internet addiction among the federal polytechnic library users. From the findings of the study, it was concluded that boredom apart from demographics of library users predict internet addiction among library users in federal polytechnics in South-South, Nigeria. Based on the findings from the study, it was recommended that polytechnic management and library administrators in collaboration with the guidance and counselling unit should organise an awareness campaign for students on the consequences of internet addiction and develop initiatives and policies that promote a healthier internet use among student populations.

Public libraries have become one of the biggest powerhouses for the production of knowledge and information by having various sources and references that their effective and efficient management can have a significant impact on the development of users' information literacy. The aim of the current research was to investigate the role of knowledge management in improving the information literacy of public library users and providing a suitable model. The research method was a combined method using the metacomposite technique, content analysis and Delphi to identify and categorize the components of management-knowledge and information literacy, and then the survey method. The statistical population included 284 librarians and 45582 users, 181 librarians and 497 users were selected by multi-stage cluster sampling. The data collection tool included two researcher-made questionnaires for knowledge management and information literacy, derived from the theoretical and experimental background of the research, which was approved by the expert team. The method of data analysis was structural equation modeling. The findings of the research showed that the level of establishment of four components of knowledge management in public libraries of Khuzestan province is higher than average. Also, the level of users' enjoyment of the eight components of information literacy is also higher than average. As a result, a proposed model, while confirming the main and sub-hypotheses of the research, showed that the implementation and establishment of knowledge management has been effective in improving the information literacy of public library users in Khuzestan province.

The purpose of the article was aimed at examining beliefs and ethical perceptions of book theft as predictors of bibliokleptomania among library users in Nigeria. Research methods. The survey, questionnaire, analysis and synthesis methods were used to carry out the research. Scientific novelty. The survey research of the correlational type was used for the study with population comprising of library users in Nigerian universities. This was drawn up in line with the objectives of the study. Three hundred and sixteen (316) copies of questionnaire were randomly administered to participants who utilize the library. Conclusions. Findings reveal that library users believe that it is wrong to take library books without permission and majority of the respondents also perceive that the cost of books was a barrier in accessing books. The analysis indicates a high level of consensus among library users in Nigeria that stealing books is ethically wrong. The majority opinion supports a positive ethical culture within the academic community. However, the presence of a minority with differing views suggests the potential benefit of targeted intervention programs, and the proposed policy implication underscores the importance of instituting measures to prevent and address book theft within academic library settings. The analysis highlights the connection between the perceived cost of books, financial challenges faced by library users, and the potential impact on library services, particularly in terms of book theft and missing books. It suggests that a significant portion of users may be deterred from accessing books due to cost, and this insight has broader implications for how libraries can enhance accessibility and address the financial constraints faced by their user community.

The study is conducted to determine the impact of social media posts (SMP), information quality, accessibility to social media (ASM), social media user trust (SMUT) and technological literacy (TL) on effectiveness of social media communication (ESMC). A survey based data collection approach was used and a sample of 386 library users in Shanghai and Beijing was collected using survey random sampling method. The study used IBM SPSS 26 for determining correlations, model summary, analysis of variance (ANOVA) and regression analysis. It was found that there is no impact of SMP on ESMC. The study determined that information quality, ASM, SMUT, and TL have a significant impact on ESMC. In this column, we will share the benefits and challenges of adopting two EdTech tools (Scholarcy and Grammarly) to support library users' research workflows. We share how we introduced Grammarly and Scholarcy to the college community through a marketing campaign via ConvertKit, an email marketing tool, and the benefits and challenges of Grammarly and Scholarcy's vendor-supplied usage statistics to support student success. The use of mobile phones has increased in various areas during the COVID-19 pandemic, including the adoption of mobile libraries. This research aims to understand users' intentions to continue using USULib Mobile after the pandemic. Using a quantitative descriptive approach, the study focused on the entire population of USU Library users who utilize USULib Mobile, with a research sample of 250 respondents. Data collection involved questionnaires, observations, and documentation studies covering eight UTAUT2 indicators, twenty-six variables, and forty-six questions. Descriptive methods were used for data analysis, and data validity was assessed using a rating scale. The results showed a generally strong inclination among users to persist in using USULib Mobile after the COVID-19 pandemic. The most influential factor was habit, particularly linked to the experience variable, indicating that the use of USULib Mobile had become a deeply ingrained habit during the pandemic. On the contrary, the least influential factor was hedonic motivation, specifically the variable related to fun or pleasure, which requires further investigation.

Scholarly web-based application programming interfaces (APIs) allow users to interact with information and data programmatically. Interacting with information programmatically allows users to create advanced information query workflows and quickly access machine-readable data for downstream computations. With the growing availability of scholarly APIs from open and commercial library databases, supporting access to information via an API has become a key support area for research data services in libraries. This article describes our efforts with supporting API access through the development of an online Scholarly API Cookbook. The Cookbook contains code recipes (i.e., tutorials) for getting started with 10 different scholarly APIs, including for example, Scopus, World Bank, and PubMed. API tutorials are available in Python, Bash, Matlab, and Mathematica. A tutorial for interacting with library catalog data programmatically via Z39.50 is also included, as traditional library catalog metadata is rarely available via an API. In addition to describing the Scholarly API Cookbook content, we discuss our experiences building a student research data services programming team, challenges we encountered, and ideas to improve the Cookbook. The University of Alabama Libraries Scholarly API Cookbook is freely available and hosted on GitHub. All code within the API Cookbook is licensed with the permissive MIT license, and as a result, users are free to reuse and adapt the code in their teaching and research.

This study investigated the influence of ICT use and work ethics by librarians on library users' satisfaction in public universities in Edo State; the descriptive survey research design was adopted; and the study population was 12,400 library users, with a sample size was 388, while the simple random sampling technique was adopted. The instrument for data collection was the structured questionnaire, and data collected was analysed using inferential statistics. Findings showed that ICT use had a strong influence on library users' satisfaction (R2 = 0.448; F = 250.565; p = 0.001); work ethics had a weak influence on library users' satisfaction (R2 = 0.222; F = 87.922; p = 0.001); while ICT use and work ethics had a high combined influence on library users' satisfaction (Adj. R2 = 0.446; F = 125.698; p = 0.001). The research concluded that library users rarely patronised the library despite the high ICT usage skills and high ethical standard of librarians. The research recommended that there is the need to ensure library users' satisfaction, while librarians embrace the use of ICTs and uphold high work ethics. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Training has been observed to be a very important element in personnel management. Even though no organisation can grow in its services without continuous training of their staff, it has been observed that most public libraries' staff are not well trained nor exposed to continuous training programmes. This study, therefore, seeks to examine the effect of staff training on information services delivery to library users in public libraries in the South-west of Nigeria. The descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study. The population of the study comprises all the staff in the six State Library Boards in the Southwest of Nigeria, with a population size of one hundred and six (106). Total enumeration was adopted for the study, and questionnaire was used for data collection. Data collected were analysed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS). The data were presented on simple frequency tables and Percentages, arithmetic mean and standard deviation were equally computed. The Pearson Product Moment Correlation (PPMC) was used to examine the effect of training on information services delivery by the library staff. The findings from the study revealed that there is a positive and significant linear relationship between staff training and information service delivery to users in public libraries (r=.238; P<0.05). Findings also show that the most frequently used training is workshops/seminars/conferences, followed by job rotation, mentoring/coaching, consultant training, industrial attachment and research training. However, findings also revealed that the staff in public libraries are not often exposed to training. This is usually as a result of lack of funds for organising training programmes, poor budgetary allocation to public libraries, lack of written training development policies, poor knowledge of ICT facilities, and lack of necessary training facilities, amongst others. It was however recommended that public libraries should pay attention to staff development by investing the necessary resources that will enable the individual library staff and institutions to maximise the benefits of training and development. Though the researchers and librarians paid attention to children and adults, they have not recognized adolescents as a special category as library users till recent times. The researchers have emphasized that teen library users have special requirements in addition to conventional ones. Basically, they expect the libraries to act as an Information Gateway as well as acting as a provider of information and information access from the internet and database access to book circulation and reference services etc. They expect the library to act as a Social Interaction or Entertainment Space with a special area assigned to them to meet with each other and do group activities. Since the teens are expected to be prepared for future employment, the libraries should act as a Beneficial Physical Environment by providing information and training for jobs and skills development. This study investigates the awareness and perceptions of library users towards the use of Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC). The research adopted the survey research design using cross sectional survey research design of Quantitative research methodology, where a structured questionnaire was used to gather the data for this study. Three hundred and thirty five (335) questionnaires were distributed, Two hundred and ninety-eight were returned, and two hundred and ninety questionnaires were found useful for analysis, indicating 88.96-response rate for the study. The data collected were analyzed using descriptive statistics employing frequencies and percentage. The study revealed poor awareness on the availability of OPAC in the library under study, which subsequently breeds the neutrality in the perceptions of the library users towards the use of OPAC. The study further revealed under-utilization of the OPAC facility in the library understudy, which is also attributed to the poor awareness of the users. Some of the challenges library users face when using OPAC include: Access restricted to the Library only; Inadequate computer terminals; Erratic power supply; Lack of ICT skills of the library staff; Frequent computer breakdown; Lack of skills to use OPAC independently and Lack of Computer Knowledge among others. It was also recommended in the study that proper awareness of Library services such as OPAC should be created through all means such as library orientation and other awareness creation programs. A survey was performed over all university libraries within the Association of European Research Libraries (LIBER) in order to study how different methods of user input are utilized. Libraries using analysis based on explorative methods—such as UX and process mapping—report significantly increased user knowledge and perceived well-function. Over three-fourths of the respondents reported performing general user surveys. Surveys offer ease of collection, effectively gather researcher user group input and generate data suitable for communicating library value to stakeholders. However, it is resource-demanding to transfer findings into service changes, especially for smaller libraries, and results often support stepwise improvements rather than discovery of new services. Objective: The purpose of the study is to investigate the level of Internet addiction among polytechnic library users in Nigeria and effect on their academic performance. Methods: The study adopted descriptive design and data was collected from 511 library users in 16 federal polytechnics in Nigeria. Results: The study found that the extent of internet addiction among the federal polytechnic library users' is high, and they use the Internet to engage in activities like social communications such as birthdays, making friends, etc., entertainment & fun, and searching for information. Only few use the Internet for academic purposes. The results also revealed that more than half of the Federal Polytechnic students engage in different activities on the Internet for more than 2 hours a day, and the majority agree that to a great extent the excessive use of the Internet for different activities affect their studies. The results also show that male students use the Internet for different online activities than their female counterparts and it affects their studies. Conclusion: Internet addiction has become chronic in the present-day digital world. Therefore, it is necessary to take rectification measures to avoid facing the perils of Internet Addiction. The findings will be useful to education authorities as considering the increasing trend of IA in the recent years, the high prevalence of IA in students therefore calls for authorities to develop a national policy for the use of the Internet among students. The main aim of this study is to determine the status of implementing the Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology in the central library of Jadavpur University, Kolkata; the other purpose is to increase awareness of RFID technology among library professionals and users of the library. RFID technology occurs in many areas of society, such as healthcare, marketing, libraries, etc. For this study, the users and library professionals of Jadavpur University have been selected. This study adopted the descriptive analytical research method, and quantitative and qualitative data were collected to achieve its objectives. The survey method has been used with the help of two sets of questionnaires. The first stage evolved by making a questionnaire to conduct research or gather information from users and library professionals. The second stage included the data tabulated in an Excel sheet and presented for analysis in tabular, bar, and graph formats. The study explained the outline of the RFID technology implementation status, the amount of work done in the library, and the gaps; it also explained the awareness of RFID technology among library professionals and Users and the user satisfaction level towards the library services. Purpose: The main objective of this study was to investigate the role of Kermanshah public libraries in attracting users from the perspective of their clients.Methodology: This research utilized a quantitative survey method. The statistical population consisted of all members of public libraries in Kermanshah, totaling 12,197 individuals. The sample size was determined to be 372 members, selected through simple random sampling using Cochran's formula.Findings: The findings indicated that the highest percentage of efforts made by libraries to attract users was through reserving and lending resources (41.3%). Conversely, the use of advertisements had the lowest percentage (2.02%). In terms of users' tendencies towards different book subjects, specialized books (27.7%), general information (22.6%), and fiction/poetry (20%) were the most preferred categories.Conclusion: The study identified several factors that have contributed to a decrease in the number of library visitors, including a lack of suitable reading resources, inadequate facilities, an unappealing environment, and traditional library management practices.Value: This research provides valuable insights into the strengths and weaknesses of public libraries in Kermanshah when it comes to attracting users. This knowledge can aid library officials and trustees in identifying the information needs of their users.

This paper reports on a study on delinquent acts in three academic libraries in northern Ghana. A survey method was used for the study and a questionnaire was used to collect data. The study population consisted of staff in the Reader Service Sections of the three libraries. The study found that failure to observe library regulations, keeping overdue materials, eating in the library, littering, reserving seats unjustifiably, and hiding of books for the purpose of monopoly are examples of delinquent acts practiced by library users. According to the participants, the main reasons for delinquent acts are inadequate orientation to users, insufficient copies of books, and indiscipline among library users. The respondents further reported that these actions led to a reduction in library resources and low patronage. To curb deviant behaviors in libraries, the study recommends the adoption of pragmatic approaches including massive orientation for users, imbibing positive library culture that fosters respect, bolstering commitment and cooperation among library users and the staff, increasing library budgets as well as finding more creative ways of acquiring more copies of books, such as using Open Educational Resources (OERs), belonging to consortia and building and/or enhancing existing Institutional Repositories (IR).
