2. Cavity optomechanical liquid level meter using a twin-microbottle resonator

Abstract

Cavity optomechanical devices can be made to have good compatibility with optical fiber technology by utilizing fiber-based waveguides and cavities and can be used in high-performance optical sensor applications. Such optomechanical microsensors have a great potential for exploring the properties of liquids, such as density, viscosity, and masses of included nanoparticles. However, as yet, there is no cavity optomechanical architecture that can be used to sense the liquid's shape, e.g., liquid level. In this paper, we report a demonstration of a liquid-level meter using a twin-microbottle resonator that can make measurements at arbitrary positions and depths in the liquid. The twin-microbottle resonator has a maximum diameter of 68 $\mu$m and length of 800 $\mu$m. By immersing one part of it in water and keeping the other part in air, the mechanical radial breathing mode can be read out sensitively while maintaining a high optical quality factor of the optical whispering gallery mode regardless of the water immersion. This high mechanical displacement sensitivity provides a frequency resolution that is high enough to measure the mechanical frequency shift due to the water immersion and resolves the water level to 2.6$\pm$0.9 pm. This unique liquid-level meter based on a highly sensitive cavity optomechanical setup can be used to detect tiny fluctuations of various air-liquid and liquid-liquid interfaces.

Abstract

The increase in noise emissions is associated with an increase in the population, with anthropic activities, and it is in urban centers where a series of effects on both the population and the environment occur. The present study covered the evaluation of the noise behavior in the city of Cuenca during 2019, for which monitoring was carried out in 31 points distributed in the city based on the average daily traffic, the ordinance of use and occupation of the land and the dynamics of the population. The national environmental standard TULSMA (Unified Text of Secondary Legislation of the Ministry of the Environment) was taken as a reference. To establish the comparison of the data collected with a (low-cost, noise level) sensor and a sound level meter, measurements were made in 6 monitoring stations established on the basis of noise complaints made by citizens to the autonomous decentralized municipal government of Cuenca (GAD) and the security conditions to place for the placement of the equipment. The results showed that noise, in the city of Cuenca during 2019, noise is above the TULSMA environmental standard in Zone EQ1 (100% of the measurements), Zone R1 (96% of the measurements), Zone CM (100% of the measurements) and in Zone ID3 / ID4 (72% of the measurements). There was a high correlation coefficient (r = 0.8) and determination coefficient (R2 >0.6), between the data collected with the sensor and the sound level meter. It is worth highlighting the use of the calibrated sound level meter when making sound measurements with various instruments, as it allows the data to be verified and validated. Menurut Menteri Agama sesuai dengan Surat Edaran Menteri Agama Republik Indonesia tentang Pedoman Penggunaan Pengeras Suara di Masjid dan Musala, penggunaan pengeras suara di masjid dan musala merupakan kebutuhan bagi umat Islam sebagai salah satu media syiar Islam di tengah masyarakat. Pada saat yang bersamaan, masyarakat Indonesia juga beragam, baik agama, keyakinan, latar belakang, dan lainnya. Oleh karena itu, diperlukan upaya untuk merawat persaudaraan dan harmoni sosial. Merujuk kepada poin C.2.c tentang Ketentuan Pemasangan dan Penggunaan Pengeras Suara, volume pengeras suara diatur sesuai dengan kebutuhan, dan paling besar 100 dB (seratus desibel). Dari ketentuan tersebut, Prodi Sarjana Terapan Teknik Telekomunikasi akan menerapkan sistem pengukur level pengeras suara masjid dan musala sebagai standardisasi dan prosedur operasi khusus (SOP) yang dapat digunakan dengan mudah oleh masjid dan musala yang ada di seluruh Indonesia. Penggunaan alat pengukur level suara yang ada di pasar atau yang dapat disebut sebagai digital sound level meter, akan digunakan untuk mempermudah operasional dan ketersediaan alat. Dengan adanya pengabdian masyarakat ini, diharapkan alat pengukur suara takmir masjid dan masyarakat dapat menggunakan pengeras suara masjid sesuai Surat Edaran Menteri Agama No SE. 05 Tahun 2022.

Treball desenvolupat en el marc del programa "European Project Semester"., The ocean is full of anthropogenic noise which can harm marine animals. The anthropogenic sounds can cause a threshold shift in their hearing sensibility, which can on its turn cause changes in their behavior. The aim of this project is to develop a portable hydrophone sound level meter that displays sound levels in real time. In addition, a warning signal will be displayed when a defined sound level is reached or surpassed. In order to achieve these goals, research was carried out. It was determined when sound levels and octaves become dangerous or deadly for the respective marine life. For the development process of the hydrophone sound level meter, it was important to determine requirements in order to make the device usable for this purpose. Based on the requirements, a selection of technical components and the design of the device was made. With the help of the necessary software, the measured values of a hydrophone can be displayed on the hydrophone sound level meter in an easily understandable way. Abstract

Frequency weighting networks are a critical component of a sound level meter (SLM), and their error characteristics directly determine the performances of SLM. For reducing the high-frequency error of the A ∕ C frequency-weighting filters with the bilinear transformation method (BTM), a design method for A ∕ C frequency-weighting filters based on neural computing method (NCM) is proposed. A detailed algorithm for solving the filter coefficients is provided, and the amplitude-frequency characteristics of the A ∕ C frequency-weighting filters with BTM and NCM are compared in detail. The experimental results show that the amplitude-frequency characteristics of the A ∕ C frequency-weighting filters in SLM with NCM are significantly better than those of BTM. The filter meets the requirements of the first class SLM defined by IEC61672, which demonstrates the effectiveness of this proposed method. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

In the area of measuring the environmental noise the equivalent sound pressure level LA,eq is adopted and compared with legal thresholds in order to characterize the site of interest. The paper describes an innovative Sound Level Meter (SLM) able to provide information about the measurand contribution to the measurement uncertainty estimation. This measurement technology is made possible thanks to an approach based on bootstrap method for selecting the suitable measurement episode for an estimation of LAeq. The firmware implementation of the developed SLM is disclosed with reference to a low-cost platform for real-time execution of the proposed methodology. Finally, a metrological characterization of the prototype performed in laboratory is reported as well as the performance comparison with a class 1 SLM in a real scenario. As a result, the smart features of the new SLM may be easily implemented by including commercial devices into the instrument schematics.

Abstract

[Objectives] This paper aims to solve the problems of the high subjectivity and low accuracy and efficiency of draft surveying relying on human visual inspection.[Methods] Radar-level oil and liquid measurement technology products are widely used in the petrochemical industry. A device is developed that uses radar to survey the draft of a boat, designed with data series optimization formulae to ensure that the data results are true and correct. At the same time, a test is designed to prove the accuracy of the results.[Results] According to the conditions of the ship,the device is composed of a radar sensor, triangular bracket and display,and is put to use in the test.[Conclusions] With 15 vessels as the research objects,the comparison experiment shows a difference in range between 0.001-0.022 meters, with an average difference rate of 0.028%, which meets the requirements for ship draft survey accuracy.
