In order to open a wide temperature window for a magnetostructural transformation, Sn–Co co-doping was explored in the Mn 50 Ni 50 alloy. The experimental results show that doping with Sn and doping with Co have different effects on the martensitic and austenitic structures, the martensitic transformation, the thermal hysteresis and the magnetic properties of the martensitic and austenitic phases. By tuning the Sn and Co content in Mn 50 Ni 50− x − y Sn x Co y from x = 11, y = 0 to x = 6, y = 14, the martensitic transformation temperature, T m , could be adjusted over the range from 99 K to 450 K, with the condition that T m remains lower than the Curie temperature of the austenitic phase, T c a , which varied from 288 K to 565 K. Abstract: Inverted small molecule organic solar cells were fabricated with a Ca modified indium tin oxide (ITO) substrates as the cathode and molybdenum trioxide (MoO3) interlayer modified Ag as anode. The Ca and MoO3 layers were found to be critical to the device performance. The insertion of Ca forms Ohmic contact between ITO and fullerene (C60), significantly enhancing the fill factor and further improvement of efficiency by 65% compared to the device without Ca layer. MoO3 interlayer has multiple functions as anode buffer layer, effectively preventing the exciton quenching and reducing the interfacial resistance. Optimal copper phthalocyanine (CuPc) thickness of 25nm demonstrates that the balance between light harvesting and charge transport is obtained and a maximum PCE of 0.64% under 100mW/cm2 is achieved. The cell structure uniformity of microcellular polymers significantly impacts material performance, especially for low-porosity microcellular TPU used in chip polishing. The distribution of the cell structure of polishing pads directly affects the removal rate and process repeatability. Despite its importance, no quantitative method for evaluating cell structure uniformity has been reported in the literature. In this study, a digital image processing method that involves morphological operations of scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images, binarization, and cell localization, and the statistical evaluation of cell structure parameters was established to evaluate cell structure uniformity. A quantitative metric, the cell structure uniformity index (CUI), was calculated based on cell structure indices, incorporating the cell size index (Ud), the cell number index (Un), and the cell local spacing index (Ur). By establishing an ideal model and analyzing representative SEM images, the effectiveness and efficiency of the method for evaluating cell structure uniformity of microcellular TPU were successfully validated. The results demonstrated that low-porosity TPU foams exhibited relatively low cell structure uniformity compared to the ideal model. The heterogeneous nucleation process in TPU caused non-uniform cell structures due to the temporal and spatial non-homogeneities during the early cell nucleation process. Background: The slewing crane is easily affected by the wind and the manipulation level of the operator when it is working, which in turn impacts its swing angle, affects the working efficiency and safety of the crane. Objective: Toimprove the operation safety andreduce the swing angle, this study design and research the anti-swing control system for the slewing crane. Methods: Firstly, based on the Lagrange equation, the dynamic model of the crane hoisting system is established. Then, the mechanical anti-swing mechanism driven by a four-motor rope is established. Finally, based on fuzzy PID control, an anti-swing platform is established, and the performance of anti-swing control is verified. Results: Compared to no anti-swing control, the in-plane swing angle θ1 and out-of-plane swing angle θ2 of the lifting arm are reduced by 88% and 75% respectively. Conclusion: The results show that the four-motor rope-driven anti-swing mechanism can achieve better anti-swing effect, which provides an effective swing suppression method for the slewing crane in the actual operation. Head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) is diagnosed in more than 71,000 patients each year in the United States, with nearly 16,000 associated deaths. One significant hurdle in the treatment of HNSCC is acquired and intrinsic resistance to existing therapeutic agents. Over the past several decades, the University of Wisconsin has formed a multidisciplinary team to move basic scientific discovery along the translational spectrum to impact the lives of HNSCC patients. In this review, we outline key discoveries made throughout the years at the University of Wisconsin to deepen our understanding of therapeutic resistance in HNSCC and how a strong, interdisciplinary team can make significant advances toward improving the lives of these patients by combatting resistance to established therapeutic modalities. Osteoarthritis (OA) is a chronic, progressive, degenerative joint disease characterized by joint pain, stiffness, and limited movement. It presents significant intra- and inter-individual variability—in particular, between genders. Recent research has increasingly focused on the role of adipokines—especially leptin, adiponectin, and resistin—in the development of OA. Adipokines, peptide hormones primarily secreted by adipose tissue, are involved in crucial physiological processes related to metabolism and immunity. They can also impact bone and cartilage turnover by interacting with joint cells such as osteoblasts, osteoclasts, chondrocytes, and mesenchymal stem cells, thereby linking inflammation with bone cartilage homeostasis. This review aims to elucidate the structure and functions of various adipokines, their serum and synovial levels, and their association with clinical presentation and radiographic progression in OA patients, with a focus on differences between sexes. A narrative literature review was conducted using three databases specifically analyzing sex differences. OA patients generally show elevated serum and synovial levels of leptin, chemerin, and visfatin, as well as high plasma levels of resistin and visfatin. In contrast, synovial levels of adiponectin and omentin are reduced in OA patients compared to healthy individuals, with an inverse relationship to disease severity, suggesting a potential protective role. Resistin and leptin were positively correlated with pain severity and radiographic progression, while adiponectin's role in OA remains controversial. Regarding sex differences, male OA patients exhibited higher serum levels of leptin, chemerin, and omentin compared to healthy controls, with a positive correlation to the BMI and estrogen levels, potentially explaining the sexual dimorphism observed in this condition. Studies on visfatin and lipocalin did not reveal significant differences in synovial or serum levels between the sexes. The role of resistin remains controversial. Adipokines influence the joint microenvironment and contribute to the progression of osteoarthritis (OA). However, the precise biological mechanisms are not yet fully understood due to the complex interactions between the metabolic, mechanical, and immune systems. Complex phase steels, known for their high levels of conformability, energy absorption, and deformation capacity, are among the more advanced high-strength steels. The objective of this study was to compare the mechanical properties of CPW 800-class complex phase steels, with and without laser welding. The analysis involved determining tensile strength, yield strength, elongation, and area reduction through tensile tests, in scenarios both with and without laser welding. Additionally, the number of cycles was assessed via fatigue tests, and absorbed energy was measured using impact tests. The non-parametric Kruskal–Wallis test, at a 5% significance level, revealed that tensile strength, yield strength, area reduction, and absorbed energy were statistically similar regardless of laser welding. However, elongation and the number of cycles showed significant differences. In heavy oil thermal recovery processes, higher pressure usually leads to low dryness and expansion difficulty for the injected steam in thermal recovery processes, which will result in lower oil recovery and more carbon emissions. This paper proposed a new CO2-inducing method to accelerate the steam chamber expansion, based on a core flooding experiment and numerical simulation. First, the CO2 showed significant viscosity reduction at high pressure in the PVT test. In the core flooding experiment, the CO2 provided strong flow conductivity in porous media for the thermal flooding, as the CO2 pre-injection restrained the steam condensation. Using the CO2-inducing method, CO2 pre-injection before steam built a fast flow channel in a relatively higher permeability layer and reduced the thermal injection pressure by about 1.0~2.4 MPa. As a result, the steam overlap around the injection wells became slower and the gravity drainage process was able to heat and displace the heavy oil above the channel. Furthermore, the CO2 gas trapped at the top reduced heat loss by about 12.4%. The field numerical simulation showed that this new method improved thermal recovery by 7.5% and reduced CO2 emissions by about 18 million kg/unit for the whole process. This method changes the conventional thermal expansion direction by CO2 inducing effect and fundamentally reduces heat loss, which provides significant advantages in low-carbon EOR. Exploring the optimal experimental conditions and mechanism of a novel functionalized ionic liquid 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium bromide ([EMIM][Br]) for enhancing the wettability of coal powder is of great significance for reducing the harm of coal dust. This study determined the critical micelle concentration of [EMIM][Br] aqueous solution through ultraviolet(UV) absorption spectroscopy, and analyzed the mechanism of the influence of [EMIM][Br] aqueous solution on the wettability of coal using characterization methods such as contact angle, scanning electron microscope(SEM), automated surface area and porosity analyzer(BET), and fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR). The results showed that the critical micelle concentration of [EMIM][Br] aqueous solution was 0.005 mol/L, and the optimal experimental conditions were reaction temperature of 40°C, soaking time of 8 hours, and ratio of 1 g to 20 ml. After the action of [EMIM][Br] aqueous solution, the coal dust stomatal layer zone was developed, wedge-shaped stomata and sheet-filled cracks appeared, and the number of mesopores was increased. The content of hydrophilic functional groups such as C–O, carboxyl(–COOH), hydroxyl ether hydrogen bonds(OH...O), and hydroxyl self-consolidating hydrogen bonds(OH...OH) in the pulverized coal was increased, and the content of hydrophobic functional groups such as aryl hydrocarbons –CH3 and–CH2 was decreased, which improved the wettability of the pulverized coal. Cu-W alloys are widely used in high-voltage circuit breaker contacts due to their high resistance to arc ablation, but few studies have analyzed the microstructure of Cu-W alloys under arc ablation. This study applied a phase-field model based on the phase-field model developed by Karma and co-workers to the evolution of dendrite growth in the solidification process of Cu-W alloy under arc ablation. The process of columnar dendrite evolution during solidification was simulated, and the effect of the supercooling degree and anisotropic strength on the morphology of the dendrites during solidification was analyzed. The results show that the solid–liquid interface becomes unstable with the release of latent heat, and competitive growth between dendrites occurs with a large amount of solute discharge. In addition, when the supercooling degree is 289 K, the interface is located at a lower height of only 15 μm, and the growth rate is slow. At high anisotropy, the side branches of the dendrites are more fully developed and tertiary dendritic arms appear, leading to a decrease in the alloy's relative density and poorer ablation resistance. In contrast, the main dendrites are more developed under high supercooling, which improves the density and ablation resistance of the material. The results in this paper may provide a novel way to study the microstructure evolution and material property changes in Cu-W alloys under the high temperature of the arc for high-voltage circuit breaker contacts. Laser cladding is an emerging environmentally friendly surface-strengthening technology. During the cladding process, the changes in molten pool temperature and velocity directly affect the solidification process and element distribution. The quantitative revelation of the directional solidification mechanism in the molten pool during the cladding process is crucial for enhancing the quality of the cladding layer. In this study, a multi-field coupling numerical model was developed to simulate the coating process of 316L powder on 45 steel matrices using a disk laser. The instantaneous evolution law of the temperature and flow fields was derived, providing input conditions for simulating microstructure evolution in the molten pool's paste zone. The behavior characteristics of the molten pool were predicted through numerical simulation, and the microstructure evolution was simulated using the phase field method. The phase field model reveals that dendrite formation in the molten pool follows a sequence of plane crystal growth, cell crystal growth, and columnar crystal growth. The dendrites can undergo splitting to form algal structures under conditions of higher cooling rates and lower temperature gradients. The scanning speed of laser cladding (6 mm/s) has minimal impact on dendrite growth; instead, convection within the molten pool primarily influences dendrite growth and tilt and solute distribution. This study examines the impact of CO2 concentration on the stability and plugging performance of polymer-enhanced foam (PEF) under high-temperature and high-pressure conditions representative of the steam front in heavy oil reservoirs. Bulk foam experiments were conducted to analyze the foam performance, interfacial properties, and rheological behavior of CHSB surfactant and Z364 polymer in different CO2 and N2 gas environments. Additionally, core flooding experiments were performed to investigate the plugging performance of PEF in porous media and the factors influencing it. The results indicate that a reduction in CO2 concentration in the foam, due to the lower solubility of N2 in water and the reduced permeability of the liquid film, enhances foam stability and flow resistance in porous media. The addition of polymers was found to significantly improve the stability of the liquid film and the flow viscosity of the foam, particularly under high-temperature conditions, effectively mitigating the foam strength degradation caused by CO2 dissolution. However, at 200 °C, a notable decrease in foam stability and a sharp reduction in the resistance factor were observed. Overall, the study elucidates the effects of gas type, temperature, and polymer concentration on the flow and plugging performance of PEF in porous media, providing reference for fluid mobility control at the steam front in heavy oil recovery. Superelastic shape memory alloys with an integration of large elastocaloric response and good cyclability are crucially demanded for the advancement of solid-state elastocaloric cooling technology. In this study, we demonstrate a giant elastocaloric effect with improved cyclic stability in a <001>A textured polycrystalline (Ni50Mn31Ti19)99B1 alloy developed through directional solidification. It is shown that large adiabatic temperature variation (|ΔTad|) values more than 15 K are obtained across the temperature range from 283 K to 373 K. In particular, a giant ΔTad up to −27.2 K is achieved by unloading from a relatively low compressive stress of 412 MPa at 303 K. Moreover, persistent |ΔTad| values exceeding 8.5 K are sustained for over 12,000 cycles, exhibiting a very low attenuation behavior with a rate of 7.5 × 10−5 K per cycle. The enhanced elastocaloric properties observed in the present alloy are ascribed to the microstructure texturing as well as the introduction of a secondary phase due to boron alloying. In this paper, the influence of Cr element on the mechanical properties of welded joints of gas-shielded solid wire used in oil and gas long-distance pipelines was studied by means of tensile test, impact test, and hardness test, and the microstructure and crack propagation path of weld were characterized by means of an optical microscope, scanning electron microscope, and electron backscattering diffraction. The results show that with the addition of Cr, the strength and toughness of the weld are significantly improved, in which the tensile strength is increased from 607 MPa to 656 MPa, and the impact toughness is increased from 126.37 J to 223.79 J. The proportion of the ferrite side plate in the weld structure is reduced by about 20%, and the effective grain size of acicular ferrite is reduced by about 15%. The reason is that the addition of the Cr element improves the hardenability of the weld structure, inhibits the formation of the ferrite side plate, and promotes the effective refinement of acicular ferrite, which increases the proportion of high-angle grain boundaries in the weld, effectively hindering the crack propagation, improves the crack propagation work, and thus improves the strength and toughness of the weld. Talar avascular necrosis (AVN) is a devastating condition that frequently follows type III and IV talar neck fractures. As 60% of the talus is covered by hyaline cartilage, its vascular supply is limited and prone to trauma, which may eventually lead to AVN development. Early detection of AVN (Hawkins sign, MRI) is crucial, as it may prevent the development of the irreversible stages III and IV of AVN. Alertness is advised regarding non-obvious conditions that may cause this complication (sub chondroplasty, systemic lupus erythematosus, diabetes mellitus). Although, in stages I–II, AVN may be treated with non-surgical procedures (ESWT therapy, non-weight bearing) or joint-sparing techniques (core drilling, bone marrow aspirate injections), stages III–IV require more advanced procedures, such as joint-sacrificing procedures (hindfoot arthrodesis/ankle arthrodesis), or replacement surgery, including total talar replacement (TTR) or combined total ankle replacement (TAR). The advancement of 3D-printing technology and increased access to implant manufacturing are contributing to a rise in the production rates of third-generation total talar prostheses. As a result, there is a growing frequency of alloplasty procedures and combined total ankle replacement (TAR) surgeries. By performing TTR as opposed to deses, the operator avoids (i) delayed union, (ii) a shortening of the limb, (iii) a lack of mobility, and (iv) the stiffening of adjacent joints, which are the main disadvantages of joint-sacrificing procedures. Simultaneously, TTR and combined TAR offer (i) a brief period of weight-bearing restriction, (ii) quick pain relief, and (iii) preservation of the length of the limb. Tea (Camellia sinensis) falls into the family Theaceae, is a valuable commercial crop, and tea products made from its buds and young leaves are favored by consumers all over the world. The more common Thea plant is Camellia sinensis (C. sinensis), but its most important relative, Camellia taliensis (C. taliensis), is also utilized by locals in the area of cultivation to manufacture tea. In this investigation, C. taliensis (DL) and C. sinensis (QJZ) were characterized in terms of their agronomic traits, physicochemical indices, metabolomics, and transcriptomics. The leaf area of DL is larger than that of QJZ; the color of DL's buds and leaves is yellowish-green, while that of QJZ's is green. DL's buds and leaves are more densely velvety than those of QJZ. The HPLC results indicated that the physicochemical contents varied considerably between the two samples, with DL having greater concentrations of EGCG and GABA than QJZ, while QJZ had remarkably higher concentrations of C, CA, and EGC than DL. A total of 2269 metabolites and 362,190,414 genes were positively identified, with the number of DAMs and DEGs being 1001 and 34,026, respectively. The flavonoids, phenolic acids, and alkaloid metabolites were dramatically different between the two tea group plants. Bioinformatics profiling revealed that the DAMs and DEGs of the two tea group plants interacted with each other and were involved in metabolic pathways, including "biosynthesis of secondary metabolites", "biosynthesis of amino acids", "biosynthesis of cofactors", "phenylpropanoid biosynthesis", and "flavonoid biosynthesis". This paper addresses the challenge of trajectory planning for autonomous vehicles operating in complex, constrained environments. The proposed method enhances the hybrid A-star algorithm through back-end optimization. An adaptive node expansion strategy is introduced to handle varying environmental complexities. By integrating Dijkstra's shortest path search, the method improves direction selection and refines the estimated cost function. Utilizing the characteristics of hybrid A-star path planning, a quadratic programming approach with designed constraints smooths discrete path points. This results in a smoothed trajectory that supports speed planning using S-curve profiles. Both simulation and experimental results demonstrate that the improved hybrid A-star search significantly boosts efficiency. The trajectory shows continuous and smooth transitions in heading angle and speed, leading to notable improvements in trajectory planning efficiency and overall comfort for autonomous vehicles in challenging environments. The use of high-pressure water injection technology in gas-bearing coal seams is an important method for effectively addressing coalbed methane issues. To explore the mechanisms and influencing factors of water injection and permeability enhancement, a model was established based on the theories of unstable seepage and elastic damage in coal and rock mass. Additionally, a mechanical model of elastic damage-based beams was established, taking into account rheological damage, and the mechanical property variation of the surrounding rock in the working face was analyzed. The study included numerical simulations and verification with practical examples. The results suggested that high-pressure water injection could cause damage to the coal body and deformation of the roof, resulting in changes in ground stress, which was a significant contributor to the increase in coal seam permeability. The study showed positive correlations between rheological effects, injection time, injection flow rate, coal seam depth, and the influence range of water injection. Case studies indicated that the long-term influence range of water injection was approximately 60 m, which aligned with field results. The paper introduces a mechanical model for calculating variations in ground stress. Previous studies on the physical properties of alloy materials often focus solely on analyzing the impact of individual alloying element content, overlooking the underlying mechanism behind the synergistic action of multiple alloying elements. Therefore, in this study, we propose a combination of high-throughput computation and numerical analysis to conduct single-element (SE) analysis and multi-element (ME) analysis on the internal relationships between alloying element content and physical properties for the multi-component Nix1Crx2Cox3Al15Ti10 alloys, aiming to elucidate the competition mechanism among the Ni, Cr, and Co elements. The analysis of SE reveals how the physical properties of alloys are affected by the content of each individual alloying element, and the ME analysis further unveils the underlying competitive relationships among multiple alloying elements. The order of competitive intensity for the formation of lattice constant is Cr > Co > Ni, whereas for the formation of elastic constants and elastic moduli it is Ni > Co > Cr. At the same time, there are contradictory conclusions, such as the SE analysis showing that the Ni content is positively correlated with elastic constant C 11 , while the ME analysis demonstrates that the Ni element produces a negative competitive direction. This outcome arises from the omission of considering the combined impacts of various alloying elements in SE analysis. Therefore, the ME analysis can compensate for the limitations of SE analysis, and the integration of these two analytical methods is more conducive to elucidating the competition mechanism among various alloying elements in shaping the physical properties of alloys, which provides a promising avenue for theoretical research.
