This article is a reflection about the commitment with the ideals based on the individual change that are proposed by social programs of Latin-American young people (from Rio de Janeiro and from Santiago) in the process of disaffiliation. The methodology considered the clinical approximation accompaniment of two artistic workshops that promoted the young people expression. As results, we listened youngsters political discourses who demanded education and social protection. Also, we observed that young people had a passionate adherence (mayfly and intense) to the change proposed by the association. We conclude that the projects are based on a managerial ideology that looks for this type of bond and we propose a politically argue of this fact within the associations.

Numerous studies show that high levels of social capital are associated with higher level of happiness around the world. However, it is not known whether this association extends to young people at social risk. It is essential for this people to be in a state of positive feelings and satisfaction in order to thrive and leave healthier. A huge deficiency is the lack of research on the subject for this group of people in Republic of North Macedonia and it is very important to make national analysis because of the cultural differences between the countries that can produce different conclusions. Also, it is not known which indicators of the broad concept of social capital are associated with happiness at youth in social risk. Social capital is a complex multidimensional concept without unified definition. One easy way to explain the social capital is through benefits that arise from social activity of one individual. Among many distinctions of social capital are distinctions of structural and cognitive social capital and distinction based on relationships such as strong, weak, vertical, horizontal, bonding, bridging or linking. In this paper, we took the distinction of structural and cognitive social capital. We examine the association between different types of individual structural social capital and individual cognitive social capital with level of happiness at youth in social risk. Therefore, the subject of this paper is to examine social capital and its different dimensions and their association to happiness of youth in social risk. Main goal of this paper is to determine which dimensions of individual social capital are positively associated with happiness among youth in social risk. Thus, paper hypothesis is: structural and cognitive dimensions of social capital are positively associated with happiness among youth in social risk. Data is gathered through conducted survey on youth in social risk from 16 to 35 years in February 2022. These youth are participants in project "Youth empowerment enabling prospects", which goal is to increase the employability and find employment for youth in social risk. The project is operating in four cities in Republic of North Macedonia: Skopje, Tetovo, Prilep and Bitola. The data comes only from project participants in the city of Skopje. Out of 140 project participants in Skopje, 75 gave valid answers to the questionnaire which was consisted of 13 questions about demographics, happiness and social capital. The individual structural social capital is measured as bonding and bridging network of people and network frequency, while individual cognitive social capital is measured by quality of social relationships through trust, receiving and giving social support, positive and negative experience with others. Happiness is measured through self-perceived happiness at the moment. We first use Ordinary Least Square regression to model happiness as a function of different proxies of individual structural and cognitive social capital, controlling for age, education and income. The results of the first regression analysis suggest no statistical significance. Because of the results in the first regression, second multiple linear regression was developed via method of eliminating independent variables which had lowest level of statistical significance. After excluding age, trust, positive and negative experience with others, number of different friends and frequency of time spent with different friends, new regression model results were obtained. The results from the second regression analysis suggests that level of education and receiving social support from friends are the only variables that have statistical significance and are positively associated with level of happiness. Receiving social support variable is positively correlated with variable frequency of bonding social capital, which means that the latter is associated with greater level of happiness. Therefore, the results from the regression analysis confirm the hypothesis that some dimensions of cognitive and structural social capital are positively associated with happiness among youth in social risk. This paper shows that in order to increase level of happiness of youth in social risk, activities should be taken to increase social support among youth in social risk as peer to peer support, increase level of education and increase frequency of time spent with friends that have similar socioeconomic characteristics. - Abstract
This qualitative study was about examining how the activity organizers in GoFaR work to meet, motivate and support the young people to keep them in a meaningful everyday life and thus promote their health. GoFaR was a project at Socialförvaltningen in Helsingborg. GoFaR stands for jointly arranged physical activity on prescription. The method was developed based on the FAR-method (physical activity on prescription) and was aimed at children and young people through student health in Landskrona. GoFaR aims to create conditions for good health for children and young people at social risk. All activity organizers were asked to participate in the interview study. A total of 4 individual interviews were conducted with activity organizers. The study shows that the activity organizers do not have enough knowledge about mental illness to be able to meet this in practice. It also turned out that the needs of the target group differed from those of the other participants. The activity organizers work with positive reinforcement to strengthen the desired behavior in the children. All activity organizers believe that joy and community is something that children strive for and was a success factor in their work to promote the health of children and young people. The study also showed that the activity organizers focus on praising and rewarding with words and use as little reprimand as possible.

Sandbox is a non-accredited training programme in the performing arts and digital technologies for young people in four blighted neighbourhoods in Panama. In this paper, I reflect on my role in the design of this programme, how it was later implemented and whether it contributed to processes of economic development. To guide this reflection, I use a social capacities framework, where economic development is seen as a set of dynamics that enhances human flourishing (James 2018). The paper uses a wide range of data sources, including interviews with participants of the programme. My reflection concludes that programmes such as Sandbox work more effectively not when looking to create jobs and income, but when they aim to develop the capacities of participants to discover who they are within their own social context, helping them come closer to the labour market. The teaching of basic employability competence from a very early age is of preventive value in the transition of young people in residential care to adulthood. The present research relates employability competence (finding and holding down a job and gaining promotion in the labour market) with positive career outcomes and employment opportunities. In this study, conceptual methods for understanding employability are analysed and some existing international studies of employability skills are reviewed, although all of these are deemed partial approaches to the needs of children and young people in residential care. Our proposal, the IARS (Infancia y Adolescencia en Riesgo Social [Children and Young People at Social Risk]) Employability Competence Framework, developed by means of a collaborative and integrated approach with experts, provides a complete picture of how employability competences are important for preparing young people in residential care not only for active labour insertion but also in terms of their comprehensive development. A selection of a cluster of eight employability competences (self-organisation, decision-making and problem-solving, teamwork, communication, perseverance, professional project development, flexibility and responsibility) and their components are presented, as well as its educational implications within children's homes. This research was developed during the Professional Master in Professional and Technological Education - ProfEPT whose theme deals with Professional Technological Education as a public action that promotes integral human formation and the inclusion of young people at social risk in the world of work, with the main focus of the research the professional carpentry course, promoted by the José Cornélio Professional Training Project, carried out by the Municipal Social Development Secretariat, SEMDES, in the Municipality of Óbidos, State of Pará. In this sense, the general objective of the research is to analyze the conceptions of work and professional training present in that course and its contribution to the process of social inclusion of young people at social risk in the world of work and in preparing for life. The research methodology followed the methodological assumptions of a case study in a qualitative perspective, which includes the development of bibliographic research and field research. Concerning bibliographic research, a survey of works and authors dealing with the topic was carried out. In field research, data collection techniques were participant observation, open and semi-open interviews and document analysis. As a data collection instrument, structured and semi-structured questionnaires and conversation circles were used, which were recorded. The research followed the philosophical approach of materialism-historical-dialectic, because this conception of the world clearly explains the material reality and the contradictions that exist in the intricacies of the social relations of production and the construction of human existence. The research results point to the existence in the carpentry course and in the other activities of the José Cornélio Training Project of the conceptions of work and professional training linked to the idea of work as the creation and production of human existence. In addition, the educational practices that reward the daily life of the PJFC contribute significantly to the integral formation of young people and their inclusion in the world of work, while highlighting elements that serve as obstacles to an emancipatory formation and that are consistent with the restricted conception of work as a synonym for employability. Thus, the production of the Educational Application José Cornélio was presented as a final product, a didactic tool that contains pedagogical strategies that intends to contribute to the process of integral human formation of the future carpenter (a) trained in the José Cornélio Formation Project.

This study examines the key competencies that young people at risk of social exclusion must develop in order to be integrated in the labour market. Further, it also evaluates their level of integration after participating in the proposed program. This paper analyses the factors that contribute to youth unemployment and provides recommendations for furthering the dialogue and engaging youth in the labour market in North Macedonia. Workforce diversity is an important factor for the company's competitiveness. Numerous studies have confirmed that diversity in an organizational structure creates more innovative, creative, profitable, and flexible teams that are capable of meeting the rapid demand change of the global market economy. This article approaches the partnership between non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and municipal city halls and has the objective of analyzing the perception that NGO's representatives have of these institutions' identities in the partnership established between Belo Horizonte's City Hall and the NGOs in agreement. The intention was to evaluate the importance of this partnership to the mentioned institutions, as well as if the representatives of the NGOs consider them public or private institutions. The work's theoretical grounding was based on revising the Organizational Identity Theories, and on the history and characteristics of the Non-Governmental Organizations, as well as in the relationships between the State and Non-Profit Organizations, in the perspective of considering various author's opinions about the matter. In order to reach the suggested aims, qualitative research has been made, which consisted of a case study and used five Entities of Shelter for Children and Teenagers in partnership with the City Hall as units of analysis. For collecting the data, research techniques like the analysis of documents and interviews made with representatives of the NGOs were adopted. After collecting the information, the data was submitted to an analysis of its content. The reached conclusion was that the NGOs are related to religious and community movements and the identity of these organizations is accordingly to the law, whereas some of the NGOs representatives think the partnership is important and others are not sure about the public or private identity of the organization they represent. Social services have undergone significant transformations in the last two decades by moving from institutionalized to community-based assistance. As society has undergone social and economic changes, the demand for services has increased and the way they are provided, with an approach and perspective on prevention or reintegration intervention. The decentralization of social services from the General Directorates of Social Assistance to the community (public social assistance services) has changed the basis of funding, concentrating it more at the local level. In the same trend, policies to promote deinstitutionalisation have led to the closure of institutions and the creation of new community-based services as an alternative to institutional assistance. These reforms have impacted the organization of social services and especially the financing of social services. The existence of unitary and clear directions of action established based on sound social policies, based on the real needs of society on vulnerable groups. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This research tries to describe the group dynamic that unravels between members of the hip hop artistic collective “Colectribu”, consisting of young people in social risk, exposed to phenomena such as violence, gangs and substance abuse, they attend the “Resistencia Juvenil” program dependent from the La Paz Foundation. It describes a space of artistic development allowing growth of artistic abilities by means of lyricism workshops, musical production and others types of workshops. At the same time the concept of gang reformulates, leaving behind the violent intent to redirect the work from “Colectribu” to creation, social contribution and personal growth. “[Colectribu] is a union of youth who come from different places of La Paz who get together joined by hip hop, it’s a way of expressing to people a new message, that is conscious and reflexive”. The aim of this research is to analyze the cognitive, affective and cultural factors involved in adolescent motherhood among girls in residential care. Using this specific country example, the study also seeks to analyze if the influence of these factors is the same for girls in residential care and girls from disadvantaged backgrounds. A semi-structured interview was conducted with 54 girls distributed across three groups: 18 girls from two residential care homes, 18 girls from a secondary school (normative group) and 18 girls from disadvantaged families. A content qualitative analysis was used. The main results show that girls in care have a positive perception on teenage motherhood, they become sexually active before other girls not in care and they are less likely to use contraceptive methods. Also their life priorities are based on motherhood and having a partner rather than career expectations. Some implications in order to prevent teenage and unplanned pregnancies are highlighted. The aim of this review was to explore, through a systematic search of the literature, the relationship between art and well-being and the key elements involved. A relevant conclusion drawn from our findings is that participation in an artistic activity encourages personal well-being because it permits a direct and sincere connection with the individual's emotions. Such a process implies a threedimensional strengthening: social (I am in a relationship); emotional (I am well); and cognitive (positive thinking). Another conclusion is that whilst many of the studies are relatively recent, the positive relationship between art and well-being is well supported by the literature. Further research is required, however, to provide greater validity to our findings. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In order to reach the suggested aims, a qualitative research has been made, which consisted of a case study and used five Entities of Shelter for Children and Teenagers in partnership with the City Hall as units of analysis. JUGGLERS ,JUGGLING ,SOCIAL integration ,PARTICIPANT observation - Abstract
This article reflects on the understanding of post-dictatorship Chile of the group of young people who practice juggling in Parque Forestal, a public space in Santiago, Chile. Practice as a way of perceiving, knowing and understanding the world, is at the heart of my argument. Thus, practice, as our embodied being-in-the-world is my starting point. Drawing on the practice of juggling among Santiago’s young people, the article explores how the building of the juggler habitus is related not only to juggling technique but also to practical knowledge about being a juggler in Chile in current times. Drawing on interviews with jugglers and participant observation, the author approaches the process of becoming a proficient juggler as a navigation in which young people learn and acquire social and personal dispositions that shape their way of understanding contemporary Chile. This article is based on primary research conducted with children in community and custodial settings in Northern Ireland. It provides an analysis of the social, economic and political context in which children's rights are routinely breached. Presenting consultations with children in the community, the article considers the impact of negative assumptions, disrespect and exclusion from participation. It demonstrates how the rights of socially excluded and marginalized children are consistently undermined. Further, it draws on the experiences of children and the views of staff in considering the rights of children in custody. In conclusion, the article explores the contributions of critical analysis and rights-based discourses within an increasingly punitive climate. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Education in this field requires a rigorous approach based on the differential educational needs the members of this group have concerning affective and sexual health. This article presents the results of a study which analyses these needs. 48 professionals and 72 young people took part and a qualitative participative approach was used. Information was collected through discussion groups. The results show that culture, personal and family background in this group are conclusive factors that influence sexual behaviours. These factors must be taken into account, both in formal and non-formal educational schemes, in order to promote affective-sexual health, emphasizing specially the emotional, affective and social aspects., La educación afectiva y sexual de los y las jóvenes en situación de riesgo social es un elemento esencial para su salud. *More than ever before it is dangerous to be a child in the United States. The fact that increasingly more children and youth are developing emotional and behavioral difficulties has been well-documented (e.g., National Mental Health Association, 1989; Walker, Colvin, & Ramsey, 1995). Social risk factors, inhumane public policies, and educational stagnation contribute to this risk, as evidenced by deteriorating family structures; increased poverty; more violence at home, school, and in the neighborhood; and fewer social and mental health services. For those who care about and work with children and youth with EBD, these barriers are discouraging. Nevertheless, there is reason for hope and a clear agenda to persevere in our efforts to effectively educate these young people. Expanding Social Risk Factors A primary contributor to the increase in unhealthy child development pertains to families and communities. The traditional family structure has changed in the postmodern world (Elkind, 1995). The nuclear family is but one of many family forms as divorce, single-parent families, multiple marriages, and blended families have become the norm. In 1994, only 50.8% of all youths lived with both biological parents (Coontz, 1995). Fifty-nine percent of all children will live in a single-parent household by the age of 18 (Edelman, 1995), and poverty is on the rise. Approximately 22% of all children live at the poverty level, and it is estimated that close to one million children will be homeless in a given year ("By the Numbers," 1995; Harris, 1991). An additional one million or more children will run away from home due to family conflict (Edelman, 1995). Substance abuse in children and adults is approaching crisis levels. It is estimated that nearly 10 million children under age 18 are negatively affected by substance-abusing parents and that 10% of all children born in the United States are exposed to prenatal drug abuse (Edelman, 1995). One study found that 39% of high school seniors reported getting drunk regularly, and over one million adolescents are regular marijuana users (National Commission, 1990). Children and youth who are poor, male, and nonwhite are especially at risk in our society. Since many students labeled EBD fit this profile we must wonder what it is about our society that jeopardizes the health, well-being, and educational and social success of such a specific population. At the same time that societal risk factors are increasing, support services for children and their families are continually targeted for funding cuts or elimination. Members of the 104th Congress entered their session vowing to severely cut human service programs, believing they had this mandate from their constituencies. Fortunately, as a result of intense efforts from advocacy groups and individuals who would be most affected by such cuts, most programs were left intact. However, certain welfare programs were significantly reduced, particularly for individuals with mental impairments, thus weakening the safety net for these individuals (Bazelon Center for Mental Health Law, 1996a). While fiscal year 1997 funding allows most existing mental health programs to continue, it does not allow for expansion to new sites as originally planned (Koyanagi & Schulzinger, 1996). There are promising models for integrated service delivery using a "wrap-around" approach in which needed services are provided in neighborhood schools (e.g., the CASSP model, Stroul & Friedman, 1986); however, these programs often face stiff opposition on several fronts, particularly from groups opposed to increased spending for social services and groups opposed to such programs being placed in schools. In addition, existing programs fall short of meeting the mental health needs for all students. For example, mental health services for incarcerated children are almost nonexistent (Federation of Families, 1996a). Unfortunately, for most children and youth with EBD, the few services they receive are too little, too late, and often too fragmented to be of real value. …

- Abstract
This book takes a new, critical, and multidisciplinary look at experiences and meanings of social intervention in different social contexts, taking the approaches of social constructionism as a theoretical approach. The volume collects the results of theoretical-practical experiences that social science professionals with critical and constructionist visions linked to social work intervention have carried out in different spaces. It considers the way social work intervention models are built, their foundation, and their application. It provides the findings on tested intervention models built according to the basis of social constructionism in specific social scenarios, providing interesting findings that show intervention alternatives beyond traditional approaches. The social intervention strategies discussed take place in diverse situations, including health recovery and reconstruction in breast cancer, family abandonment issues of institutionalized adolescents, institutional care of refugee families, women caregivers of children with disabilities, men who exercise violence, and more.
