Abstract: LiteBIRD is a JAXA-led Strategic Large-Class mission designed to search for the existence of the primordial gravitational waves produced during the inflationary phase of the Universe, through the measurements of their imprint onto the polarization of the cosmic microwave background (CMB). These measurements, requiring unprecedented sensitivity, will be performed over the full sky, at large angular scales, and over 15 frequency bands from 34GHz to 448GHz. The LiteBIRD instruments consist of three telescopes, namely the Low-, Medium- and High-Frequency Telescope (respectively LFT, MFT and HFT). We present in this paper an overview of the design of the Medium-Frequency Telescope (89-224GHz) and the High-Frequency Telescope (166-448GHz), the so-called MHFT, under European responsibility, which are two cryogenic refractive telescopes cooled down to 5K. They include a continuous rotating half-wave plate as the first optical element, two high-density polyethylene (HDPE) lenses and more than three thousand transition-edge sensor (TES) detectors cooled to 100mK. Abstract: LiteBIRD, the Lite (Light) satellite for the study of B-mode polarization and Inflation from cosmic background Radiation Detection, is a space mission for primordial cosmology and fundamental physics. JAXA selected LiteBIRD in May 2019 as a strategic large-class (L-class) mission, with its expected launch in the late 2020s using JAXA's H3 rocket. LiteBIRD plans to map the cosmic microwave background (CMB) polarization over the full sky with unprecedented precision. Its main scientific objective is to carry out a definitive search for the signal from cosmic inflation, either making a discovery or ruling out well-motivated inflationary models. The measurements of LiteBIRD will also provide us with an insight into the quantum nature of gravity and other new physics beyond the standard models of particle physics and cosmology. To this end, LiteBIRD will perform full-sky surveys for three years at the Sun-Earth Lagrangian point L2 for 15 frequency bands between 34 and 448 GHz with three telescopes, to achieve a total sensitivity of 2.16 micro K-arcmin with a typical angular resolution of 0.5 deg. at 100GHz. Abstract: LiteBIRD has been selected as JAXA's strategic large mission in the 2020s, to observe the cosmic microwave background (CMB) $B$-mode polarization over the full sky at large angular scales. The challenges of LiteBIRD are the wide field-of-view (FoV) and broadband capabilities of millimeter-wave polarization measurements, which are derived from the system requirements. The possible paths of stray light increase with a wider FoV and the far sidelobe knowledge of $-56$ dB is a challenging optical requirement. A crossed-Dragone configuration was chosen for the low frequency telescope (LFT : 34--161 GHz), one of LiteBIRD's onboard telescopes. It has a wide field-of-view ($18^\circ \times 9^\circ$) with an aperture of 400 mm in diameter, corresponding to an angular resolution of about 30 arcminutes around 100 GHz. The focal ratio f/3.0 and the crossing angle of the optical axes of 90$^\circ$ are chosen after an extensive study of the stray light. The primary and secondary reflectors have rectangular shapes with serrations to reduce the diffraction pattern from the edges of the mirrors. The reflectors and structure are made of aluminum to proportionally contract from warm down to the operating temperature at $5\,$K. A 1/4 scaled model of the LFT has been developed to validate the wide field-of-view design and to demonstrate the reduced far sidelobes. A polarization modulation unit (PMU), realized with a half-wave plate (HWP) is placed in front of the aperture stop, the entrance pupil of this system. A large focal plane with approximately 1000 AlMn TES detectors and frequency multiplexing SQUID amplifiers is cooled to 100 mK. The lens and sinuous antennas have broadband capability. Abstract: We designed, fabricated, and measured anti-reflection coating (ARC) on sapphire that has 116% fractional bandwidth and transmission of at least 97% in the millimeter wave band. The ARC was based on patterning pyramid-like sub-wavelength structures (SWS) using ablation with a 15 W femto-second laser operating at 1030 nm. One side of each of two discs was fabricated with SWS that had a pitch of 0.54 mm and height of 2 mm. The average ablation volume removal rate was 1.6 mm$^{3}$/min. Measurements of the two-disc sandwich show transmission higher than 97% between 43 and 161 GHz. We characterize instrumental polarization (IP) arising from differential transmission due to asymmetric SWS. We find that with proper alignment of the two disc sandwich RMS IP across the band is predicted to be 0.07% at normal incidence, and less than 0.6% at incidence angles up to 20 degrees. These results indicate that laser ablation of SWS on sapphire and on other hard materials such as alumina is an effective way to fabricate broad-band ARC.

Abstract: Recent developments of transition-edge sensors (TESs), based on extensive experience in ground-based experiments, have been making the sensor techniques mature enough for their application on future satellite CMB polarization experiments. LiteBIRD is in the most advanced phase among such future satellites, targeting its launch in Japanese Fiscal Year 2027 (2027FY) with JAXA's H3 rocket. It will accommodate more than 4000 TESs in focal planes of reflective low-frequency and refractive medium-and-high-frequency telescopes in order to detect a signature imprinted on the cosmic microwave background (CMB) by the primordial gravitational waves predicted in cosmic inflation. The total wide frequency coverage between 34GHz and 448GHz enables us to extract such weak spiral polarization patterns through the precise subtraction of our Galaxy's foreground emission by using spectral differences among CMB and foreground signals. Telescopes are cooled down to 5Kelvin for suppressing thermal noise and contain polarization modulators with transmissive half-wave plates at individual apertures for separating sky polarization signals from artificial polarization and for mitigating from instrumental 1/f noise. Passive cooling by using V-grooves supports active cooling with mechanical coolers as well as adiabatic demagnetization refrigerators. Sky observations from the second Sun-Earth Lagrangian point, L2, are planned for three years. An international collaboration between Japan, USA, Canada, and Europe is sharing various roles. Abstract: The low-lying isomeric state of $^{229}$Th provides unique opportunities for high-resolution laser spectroscopy of the atomic nucleus. We determine the energy of this isomeric state by taking the absolute energy difference between the excitation energy required to populate the 29.2-keV state from the ground-state and the energy emitted in its decay to the isomeric excited state. A transition-edge sensor microcalorimeter was used to measure the absolute energy of the 29.2-keV $\gamma$-ray. Together with the cross-band transition energy (29.2 keV$\to$ground) and the branching ratio of the 29.2-keV state measured in a recent study, the isomer energy was determined to be 8.30$\pm$0.92 eV. Our result is in agreement with latest measurements based on different experimental techniques, which further confirms that the isomeric state of $^{229}$Th is in the laser-accessible vacuum ultraviolet range., Comment: 6 pages, 4 figures, 2 tables

Abstract: Inflation is the leading theory of the first instant of the universe. Inflation, which postulates that the universe underwent a period of rapid expansion an instant after its birth, provides convincing explanation for cosmological observations. Recent advancements in detector technology have opened opportunities to explore primordial gravitational waves generated by the inflation through B-mode (divergent-free) polarization pattern embedded in the Cosmic Microwave Background anisotropies. If detected, these signals would provide strong evidence for inflation, point to the correct model for inflation, and open a window to physics at ultra-high energies. LiteBIRD is a satellite mission with a goal of detecting degree-and-larger-angular-scale B-mode polarization. LiteBIRD will observe at the second Lagrange point with a 400 mm diameter telescope and 2,622 detectors. It will survey the entire sky with 15 frequency bands from 40 to 400 GHz to measure and subtract foregrounds. The U.S. LiteBIRD team is proposing to deliver sub-Kelvin instruments that include detectors and readout electronics. A lenslet-coupled sinuous antenna array will cover low-frequency bands (40 GHz to 235 GHz) with four frequency arrangements of trichroic pixels. An orthomode-transducer-coupled corrugated horn array will cover high-frequency bands (280 GHz to 402 GHz) with three types of single frequency detectors. The detectors will be made with Transition Edge Sensor (TES) bolometers cooled to a 100 milli-Kelvin base temperature by an adiabatic demagnetization refrigerator.The TES bolometers will be read out using digital frequency multiplexing with Superconducting QUantum Interference Device (SQUID) amplifiers. Up to 78 bolometers will be multiplexed with a single SQUID amplidier. Abstract: Divergent total syntheses of binding pocket and peripherally modified tetrachlorovancomycins, a non-native synthetic glycopeptide, and their evaluation are disclosed. Central to the approach is the synthesis of a single late-stage intermediate that bears a residue 4 thioamide ([Ψ[C(═S)NH]Tpg 4 ]tetrachlorovancomycin ( 3 ), LLS 15 steps, 14% overall) as a precursor to either of two key pocket modifications and their pairing with any combination of two peripheral modifications conducted without protecting groups. A stereochemical simplification achieved by the addition of two aryl chlorides removes two synthetically challenging atropisomer centers in native glycopeptides and streamlines the synthesis. Key features include in a convergent epimerization-free thioacylation of the AB ring system amine with an N -thioacylbenzotriazolyl DE tetrapeptide (85%) followed by simultaneous room-temperature S N Ar macrocyclizations of the CD and DE ring systems (96%). The approach provided 3 from which [Ψ[C(═N)NH]Tpg 4 ]tetrachlorovancomycin ( 4 ) and [Ψ(CH 2 NH)Tpg 4 ]tetrachlorovancomycin ( 5 ) were prepared in a single-step and bear binding pocket modifications that convey dual d-Ala-d-Ala/d-Lac ligand binding to overcome vancomycin resistance. The newest maxamycin members are disclosed, bearing two additional peripheral modifications that introduce two independent synergistic MOAs that do not rely on native ligand binding for activity. Ligand binding properties of pocket-modified tetrachlorovancomycins 3 - 5 , antibacterial activity of a key compound series, and PK assessments of two tetrachloromaxamycins are reported.

Abstract: Purpose: The technical difficulties of laparoscopic liver resection (LLR) are greatly associated with the location of liver tumors. Since segment 8 (S8) contains a wide area, the difficulty of LLR for S8 tumors may vary depending on the location within the segment, such as the ventral (S8v) and dorsal (S8d) area, but the difference is unclear., Methods: We retrospectively investigated 30 patients who underwent primary laparoscopic partial liver resection for liver tumors in S8 at Kobe University Hospital between January 2018 and June 2023., Results: Thirteen and 17 patients underwent LLR for S8v and S8d, respectively. The operation time was significantly longer (S8v 203[135-259] vs. S8d 261[186-415] min, P = 0.002) and the amount of blood loss was significantly higher (10[10-150] vs. 10[10-200] mL, P = 0.034) in the S8d group than in the S8v group. No significant differences were observed in postoperative complications or postoperative length of hospital stay. Additionally, intraoperative findings revealed that the rate at which the case performed partial liver mobilization in the S8d group was higher (2[15.4%] vs. 8[47.1%], P = 0.060) and the median parenchymal transection time of the S8d group was longer (102[27-148] vs. 129[37-175] min, P = 0.097) than those in the S8v group, but there were no significant differences., Conclusion: The safety of LLR for the S8d was comparable to that of LLR for S8v, although LLR for S8d resulted in longer operative time and more blood loss., The Trial Registration Number: B230165 (approved at December 26, 2023)., (© 2024. Abstract: The genome is constantly exposed to DNA damage from endogenous and exogenous sources. Fine modulation of DNA repair, chromatin remodeling, and transcription factors is necessary for protecting genome integrity, but the precise mechanisms are still largely unclear. We found that after ionizing radiation (IR), global trimethylation of histone H3 at lysine 4 (H3K4me3) was decreased at an early (5 min) post-IR phase but increased at an intermediate (180 min) post-IR phase in both human and mouse hematopoietic cells. We demonstrated that PTIP, a component of the MLL histone methyltransferase complex, is required for H3K4me3 upregulation in the intermediate post-IR phase and promotes cell cycle arrest by epigenetically inducing a cell cycle inhibitor, PRDM1. In addition, we found that PTIP expression is specifically downregulated in acute myeloid leukemia patients. These findings collectively suggest that the PTIP-PRDM1 axis plays an essential role in proper DNA damage response and its deregulation contributes to leukemogenesis., (© 2024. The Author(s).)

20. Importance of fourth heart sound and preserved left atrial function in wild-type transthyretin amyloidosis.

Abstract: Aims: A fourth heart sound (S4) was reported to be almost never present in patients with amyloid light-chain cardiomyopathy. There have been no reports on S4 in patients with wild-type transthyretin amyloid cardiomyopathy (ATTRwt-CM). This study aimed to clarify the clinical implications of S4 in patients with ATTRwt-CM., Methods and Results: Seventy-six patients with ATTRwt-CM (mean age: 80.4 ± 5.4 years, 68 males) who had undergone phonocardiography (PCG) were retrospectively assessed. We measured S4 amplitude on digitally recorded PCG. S4 was considered to be present when its amplitude was 1.0 mm or greater on the PCG. Distinct S4 was defined as S4 with an amplitude of 2.0 mm or greater, which is usually recognizable by auscultation. According to the rhythm and presence or absence of S4, the patients were divided into three groups, namely, sinus rhythm (SR) with S4, SR without S4, and non-SR. Non-SR consisted of atrial fibrillation, atrial flutter, and atrial tachycardia. Thirty-six patients were in SR and the remaining 40 patients were in non-SR. In the 36 patients in SR, S4 was shown by PCG to be present in 17 patients (47%), and distinct S4 was recognized in 7 patients (19%) by auscultation. In patients who were in SR, those with S4 had higher systolic blood pressure (124 ± 15 vs. 99 ± 8 mmHg, P < 0.001), lower level of plasma B-type natriuretic peptide (308 [interquartile range (IQR): 165, 354] vs. 508 [389, 765] pg/mL, P = 0.034) and lower level of high-sensitivity cardiac troponin T (0.068 [0.046, 0.089] vs. 0.109 [0.063, 0.148] ng/mL, P = 0.042) than those without S4. There was no significant difference in left atrium (LA) volume index or LA reservoir strain between patients with S4 and without S4. Patients with S4 had more preserved LA systolic function than those without S4 (peak atrial filling velocity: 53 ± 25 vs. 34 ± 9 cm/s, P = 0.033; LA contractile strain: 4.1 ± 2.1 vs. 1.6 ± 2.0%, P = 0.012). Patients in SR without S4 had worse short-term prognosis compared with the other two groups (generalized Wilcoxon test, P = 0.033)., Conclusions: S4 was present in 47% of the patients in SR with ATTRwt-CM. Abstract: Background/aim: Neskeep ® , an absorbable polyglycolic acid spacer, has been developed as the optimal material for spacer placement surgery. However, preventing its severe adhesion is a crucial concern. Therefore, we aimed to identify an effective anti-adhesion agent for Neskeep ® using rat models., Materials and Methods: Animal experiments were performed using 60 rats, which underwent Neskeep ® placement on the abdominal wall. Three types of anti-adhesion agents were employed, establishing four subgroups: Seprafilm ® , INTERCEED ® , AdSpray ® , and only Neskeep ® (control) groups. Rats were sacrificed on postoperative days 7, 14, and 28 to assess adhesion levels around the Neskeep ® Macroscopic visual assessment with the Lauder score and histopathological evaluation were performed to assess the degree of adhesion., Results: There were no significant differences in the proportion of Lauder scores on days 7 and 14 between the four groups. Histological evaluation revealed no significant differences between groups at any observation time. However, the mean Lauder scores at day 28 were 5.0, 1.6, 4.0, and 4.8 in the Neskeep ® , Seprafilm ® , INTERCEED ® , and AdSpray ® groups, respectively. Abstract: DIOS (Diffuse Intergalactic Oxygen Surveyor) is a small satellite aiming for a launch around 2020 with JAXA's Epsilon rocket. Its main aim is a search for warm-hot intergalactic medium with high-resolution X-ray spectroscopy of redshifted emission lines from OVII and OVIII ions. The superior energy resolution of TES microcalorimeters combined with a very wide field of view (30--50 arcmin diameter) will enable us to look into gas dynamics of cosmic plasmas in a wide range of spatial scales from Earth's magnetosphere to unvirialized regions of clusters of galaxies. 28. Temperature and Entropy Profiles to the Virial Radius of Abell 1246 Cluster Observed with Suzaku

Abstract: We report properties of the intracluster medium (ICM) in Abell~1246 to the virial radius ($r_{200}$) and further outside as observed with Suzaku. The ICM emission is clearly detected to $r_{200}$, and we derive profiles of electron temperature, density, entropy, and cluster mass based on the spectral analysis. The temperature shows variation from $\sim 7$ keV at the central region to $\sim 2.5$ keV around $r_{200}$. The total mass in $r_{500}$ is $(4.3 \pm 0.4) \times 10^{14}~M_{\odot}$, assuming hydrostatic equilibrium. At $r>r_{500}$, the hydrostatic mass starts to decline and we, therefore, employ the total mass within $r_{200}$ based on weak-lens mass profile obtained from a sample of lower mass clusters. This yields the gas mass fraction at $r_{200}$ consistent with the cosmic baryon fraction, i.e. $\sim 17$%. The entropy profile indicates a flatter slope than that of the numerical simulation, particularly in $r>r_{500}$. These tendencies are similar to those of other clusters observed with Suzaku. We detect no significant ICM emission outside of $r_{200}$, and $2\sigma$ upper limits of redshifted OVII and OVIII line intensities are constrained to be less than 2.9 and $5.6\times 10^{-7}$ photons cm$^{-2}$ s$^{-1}$ arcmin$^{-2}$, respectively. The OVII line upper limit indicates $n_{\rm H}< 4.7\times 10^{-5}$ cm$^{-3}$ ($Z/0.2~Z_{\odot}$)$^{-1/2}$ ($L/20~{\rm Mpc}$)$^{-1/2}$, which corresponds to an overdensity, $\delta<160$ ($Z/0.2~Z_{\odot}$)$^{-1/2}$ ($L/20~{\rm Mpc}$)$^{-1/2}$., Comment: 14 pages, 7 figures, PASJ in press

The central data are used to evaluate the instrumental energy-scale calibration with accuracy confirmed to within around 300 km/s, by the spatial and temporal variation of the instruments. These deep and well-calibrated data are used to measure X-ray redshifts of the intracluster medium. A hint of gas bulk motion, with radial velocity of about -(150-300) km/s, relative to the main system was found at 2-4 arcmin (45-90kpc) west of the cluster center, where an X-ray excess and a cold front were found previously. No other velocity structure was discovered. Over spatial scales of 50-100kpc and within 200kpc radii of the center, the gas-radial-velocity variation is below 300 km/s, while over scales of 400 kpc within 600 kpc radii, the variation is below 600 km/s. These X-ray redshift distributions are compared spatially with those of optical member galaxies for the first time in galaxy clusters. Based on X-ray line widths gas turbulent velocities within these regions are also constrained within 1000-3000 km/s. These results of gas dynamics in the core and larger scales in association with cluster merger activities are discussed and future potential of high-energy resolution spectroscopy with ASTRO-H is considered., Comment: Accepted to ApJ

Abstract: LiteBIRD is a next-generation satellite mission to measure the polarization of the cosmic microwave background (CMB) radiation. On large angular scales the B-mode polarization of the CMB carries the imprint of primordial gravitational waves, and its precise measurement would provide a powerful probe of the epoch of inflation. The goal of LiteBIRD is to achieve a measurement of the characterizing tensor to scalar ratio $r$ to an uncertainty of $\delta r=0.001$. In order to achieve this goal we will employ a kilo-pixel superconducting detector array on a cryogenically cooled sub-Kelvin focal plane with an optical system at a temperature of 4~K. We are currently considering two detector array options; transition edge sensor (TES) bolometers and microwave kinetic inductance detectors (MKID). Abstract: LiteBIRD is a future satellite mission designed to observe the polarization of the cosmic microwave background radiation in order to probe the inflationary universe. LiteBIRD is set to observe the sky using three telescopes with transition-edge sensor bolometers. In this work we estimated the LiteBIRD instrumental sensitivity using its current design. We estimated the detector noise due to the optical loadings using physical optics and ray-tracing simulations. The noise terms associated with thermal carrier and readout noise were modeled in the detector noise calculation. We calculated the observational sensitivities over fifteen bands designed for the LiteBIRD telescopes using assumed observation time efficiency.

Abstract: ORIGIN is a proposal for the M3 mission call of ESA aimed at the study of metal creation from the epoch of cosmic dawn. Using high-spectral resolution in the soft X-ray band, ORIGIN will be able to identify the physical conditions of all abundant elements between C and Ni to red-shifts of z=10, and beyond. The mission will answer questions such as: When were the first metals created? How does the cosmic metal content evolve? Where do most of the metals reside in the Universe? What is the role of metals in structure formation and evolution? To reach out to the early Universe ORIGIN will use Gamma-Ray Bursts (GRBs) to study their local environments in their host galaxies. This requires the capability to slew the satellite in less than a minute to the GRB location. By studying the chemical composition and properties of clusters of galaxies we can extend the range of exploration to lower redshifts (z ~ 0.2). For this task we need a high-resolution spectral imaging instrument with a large field of view. Using the same instrument, we can also study the so far only partially detected baryons in the Warm-Hot Intergalactic Medium (WHIM). Abstract: The expression of nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (nAChR) subunits on various immune cells suggests their involvement in allergic rhinitis. However, how exactly they contribute to this pathogenesis is not yet confirmed. Our present study examined the therapeutic potential of GTS-21, an α7 nAChR agonist, for treating allergic rhinitis by employing its mouse models. GTS-21 treatment reduced allergen-induced immediate nasal response in ovalbumin (OVA)-sensitized model. However, nasal hyperresponsiveness or eosinophil infiltration elicited in either the OVA-sensitized or T helper 2 cell-transplanted model was not affected by GTS-21. GTS-21 did not alter allergen-induced passive cutaneous anaphylaxis response in anti-dinitrophenyl IgE-sensitized mice. This evidence implies GTS-21's potential to alleviate allergic rhinitis without perturbing T cells or mast cells.

37. Associations between electrocardiographic findings and echocardiographic profiles in patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.

Abstract: Background: The relationships between electrocardiography (ECG) findings and echocardiographic profiles in patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) are not fully understood., Methods: One hundred forty patients (mean age: 62.9 ± 15.3 years, 96 men) with HCM were studied. We assessed the associations between ECG findings and echocardiographic findings including maximum left ventricular wall thickness, HCM subtypes and distribution of left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH): the LV was divided into basal, mid, and apical segments by dividing it into thirds along the long axis., Results: In ECG, LVH by voltage criteria, abnormal Q wave, negative T wave, and giant negative T wave (GNT) were observed in 74 (53 %), 30 (21 %), 132 (94 %), and 25 (18 %) of the patients, respectively. In two groups with and without an LVH pattern according to voltage criteria in ECG, there were no significant differences in maximum LV wall thickness, subtype of HCM, and distribution of LVH. Regarding an abnormal Q wave, the proportion of patients with LVH in the basal segment was significantly higher in patients with an abnormal Q wave than in patients without an abnormal Q wave (87 % vs 61 %, p = 0.008). An abnormal Q wave was not observed in patients with LVH confined to the apex. Patients with a GNT included patients with LVH located at only the apex (apical HCM), LVH from the mid segment to apex, and LVH from the base to apex. No GNT was found in patients with hypertrophy located in the upper region from the base to mid segment of the LV., Conclusions: In patients with HCM, there was no significant correlation between the presence of LVH by voltage criteria in ECG and echocardiographic findings. 38. Catalytic NH 3 oxidation affected by the nanometric roughness of the platinum overlayer.

Abstract: Pulsed cathodic arc-plasma deposition was employed to create a few nanometre-thick Pt overlayer on a 50 μm-thick Fe-Cr-Al metal (SUS) foil, resulting in an effective NH 3 oxidation catalyst fabrication. This catalyst exhibited a turnover frequency (TOF) exceeding 100 times that of Pt nanoparticles. In this study, Pt overlayer catalysts with varying degrees of surface roughness were fabricated using different metal foil substrates: mirror-polished (Pt/p-SUS), unpolished (Pt/SUS) and roughened by the formation of a surface oxide layer (Pt/Al 2 O 3 /SUS). The nanoscale roughness was comprehensively analysed using electron microscopy, laser scanning confocal microscopy and chemisorption techniques. NH 3 oxidation activity, measured at 200 °C, followed an increasing trend in the order of Pt/Al 2 O 3 /SUS < Pt/SUS < Pt/p-SUS, despite a decrease in the apparent Pt surface area in the same order. Consequently, the calculated TOF was markedly higher for Pt/p-SUS (267 min -1 ) compared to Pt/SUS (107 min -1 ) and Pt/Al 2 O 3 /SUS (≤22 min -1 ). The smooth Pt overlayer surface also favoured N 2 yield over N 2 O at this temperature. This discovery enhances our fundamental understanding of high-TOF NH 3 oxidation over Pt overlayer catalysts, which holds significance for the advancement and industrial implementation of selective NH 3 oxidation processes.

39. Artificial intelligence-assisted ultrasound imaging in hemophilia: research, development, and evaluation of hemarthrosis and synovitis detection.

Abstract: Background: Joint bleeding can lead to synovitis and arthropathy in people with hemophilia, reducing quality of life. Although early diagnosis is associated with improved therapeutic outcomes, diagnostic ultrasonography requires specialist experience. Artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms may support ultrasonography diagnoses., Objectives: This study will research, develop, and evaluate the diagnostic precision of an AI algorithm for detecting the presence or absence of hemarthrosis and synovitis in people with hemophilia., Methods: Elbow, knee, and ankle ultrasound images were obtained from people with hemophilia from January 2010 to March 2022. The images were used to train and test the AI models to estimate the presence/absence of hemarthrosis and synovitis. The primary endpoint was the area under the curve for the diagnostic precision to diagnose hemarthrosis and synovitis. Other endpoints were the rate of accuracy, precision, sensitivity, and specificity., Results: Out of 5649 images collected, 3435 were used for analysis. The area under the curve for hemarthrosis detection for the elbow, knee, and ankle joints was ≥0.87 and for synovitis, it was ≥0.90. The accuracy and precision for hemarthrosis detection were ≥0.74 and ≥0.67, respectively, and those for synovitis were ≥0.83 and ≥0.74, respectively. Analysis across people with hemophilia aged 10 to 60 years showed consistent results., Conclusion: AI models have the potential to aid diagnosis and enable earlier therapeutic interventions, helping people with hemophilia achieve healthy and active lives. Although AI models show potential in diagnosis, evidence is unclear on required control for abnormal findings. 40. Energy Spectra of the Soft X-ray Diffuse Emission in Fourteen Fields Observed with Suzaku

Abstract: The soft diffuse X-ray emission of twelve fields observed with Suzaku are presented together with two additional fields from previous analyses. All have galactic longitudes 65 deg < l < 295 deg to avoid contributions from the very bright diffuse source that extends at least 30 deg from the Galactic center. The surface brightnesses of the Suzaku nine fields for which apparently uncontaminated ROSAT All Sky Survey (RASS) were available were statistically consistent with the RASS values, with an upper limit for differences of 17 x 10^{-6} c s^{-1} amin^{-2} in R45}-band. The Ovii and Oviii intensities are well correlated to each other, and Ovii emission shows an intensity floor at ~2 photons s^{-1} cm^{-2 str^{-1} (LU). The high-latitude Oviii emission shows a tight correlation with excess of Ovii emission above the floor, with (Oviii intensity) = 0.5 x [(Ovii intensity) -2 LU], suggesting that temperatures averaged over different line-of-sight show a narrow distribution around ~0.2 keV. We consider that the offset intensity of Ovii arises from the Heliospheric solar wind charge exchange and perhaps from the local hot bubble, and that the excess Ovii (2-7 LU) is emission from more distant parts of the Galaxy. The total bolometric luminosity of this galactic emission is estimated to be 4 x 10^{39} erg s^{-1}, and its characteristic temperature may be related to the virial temperature of the Galaxy., Comment: 22 Pages, 8 figures, to appear in PASJ (Vol.61 No.4)

41. The Nature of Unresolved Soft X-ray Emission from the Galactic Disk

Abstract: Although about 40% of the soft X-ray background emission in 0.4 to 1 keV range has extragalactic origins and thus is totally blocked by the Galactic absorption in midplane directions, it decreases at most by about 20 % in midplane. Suzaku observation of the direction, (l, b) = (235, 0), showed an OVII Kalpha emission intensity comparable with that of the MBM-12 on cloud Suzaku observation, but revealed a narrow bump peaked at ~ 0.9 keV. The latter component is partly filling the decrease of the extragalactic component in midplane. The feature can be well represented by a thin thermal emission with a temperature of about 0.8 keV. Because of the high pressure implied for spatially extended hot gas, the emission is likely a sum of unresolved faint sources. We consider a large fraction of the emission originates from faint dM stars. We constructed a model spectrum for spatially unresolved dM stars that consistently explains the observed spectrum and the surface brightness. The model also suggests that the emission from dM stars decreases very rapidly with increasing b, and thus that it cannot compensate entirely the decrease of the extragalactic component at b ~ 2 - 10 deg., Comment: 8 pages, 4 figures, to appear in PASJ (Suzaku 3rd special issue)

42. X-ray and UV spectroscopy of Galactic diffuse hot gas along the LMC X--3 sight line

Abstract: We present Suzaku spectra of X-ray emission in the fields just off the LMC X-3 sight line. OVII, OVIII, and NeIX emission lines are clearly detected, suggesting the presence of an optically thin thermal plasma with an average temperature of 2.4E6. This temperature is significantly higher than that inferred from existing X-ray absorption line data obtained with Chandra grating observations of LMC X-3, strongly suggesting that the gas is not isothermal. We then jointly analyze these data to characterize the spatial and temperature distributions of the gas. Assuming a vertical exponential Galactic disk model, we estimate the gas temperature and density at the Galactic plane and their scale heights as 3.6(2.9, 4.7)E6 K and 1.4(0.3, 3.4)E-3 cm^{-3} and 1.4(0.2, 5.2) kpc and $2.8(1.0, 6.4)$ kpc, respectively. This characterization can account for all the \ovi line absorption, as observed in a FUSE spectrum of LMC X-3, but only predicts less than one tenth of the OVI line emission intensity typically detected at high Galactic latitudes. Abstract: The NeXT (New exploration X-ray Telescope), the new Japanese X-ray Astronomy Satellite following Suzaku, is an international X-ray mission which is currently planed for launch in 2013. NeXT is a combination of wide band X-ray spectroscopy (3 - 80 keV) provided by multi-layer coating, focusing hard X-ray mirrors and hard X-ray imaging detectors, and high energy-resolution soft X-ray spectroscopy (0.3 - 10 keV) provided by thin-foil X-ray optics and a micro-calorimeter array. The mission will also carry an X-ray CCD camera as a focal plane detector for a soft X-ray telescope and a non-focusing soft gamma-ray detector. With these instruments, NeXT covers very wide energy range from 0.3 keV to 600 keV. The micro-calorimeter system will be developed by international collaboration lead by ISAS/JAXA and NASA. Abstract: Aim: To retrospectively investigate the relationship between the CD4+ T-cell counts at baseline and the efficacy of the initial periodontal treatment of patients undergoing treatment for human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection using the periodontal inflamed surface area (PISA)., Materials and Methods: Thirty-three patients with chronic periodontitis who had undergone periodontal examination at baseline and after the initial periodontal treatment were enrolled. PISA was calculated from the periodontal probing depth and bleeding on probing, and the ratio of PISA after treatment to that at baseline (PISA response ratio) was calculated. Groups with a response ratio of <1 and ≥1 were defined as the improvement and the non-improvement groups, respectively., Results: PISA after the initial periodontal treatment significantly decreased compared with that at baseline (p < .05). A weak negative correlation was found between the PISA response ratio and CD4+ T-cell counts at baseline (p < .05). The CD4+ T-cell counts at baseline were significantly higher in the improvement group than in the non-improvement group (p < .05). Abstract: We have developed a framework for the Monte-Carlo simulation of the X-Ray Telescopes (XRT) and the X-ray Imaging Spectrometers (XIS) onboard Suzaku, mainly for the scientific analysis of spatially and spectroscopically complex celestial sources. A photon-by-photon instrumental simulator is built on the ANL platform, which has been successfully used in ASCA data analysis. The simulator has a modular structure, in which the XRT simulation is based on a ray-tracing library, while the XIS simulation utilizes a spectral "Redistribution Matrix File" (RMF), generated separately by other tools. Instrumental characteristics and calibration results, e.g., XRT geometry, reflectivity, mutual alignments, thermal shield transmission, build-up of the contamination on the XIS optical blocking filters (OBF), are incorporated as completely as possible. Most of this information is available in the form of the FITS (Flexible Image Transport System) files in the standard calibration database (CALDB). This simulator can also be utilized to generate an "Ancillary Response File" (ARF), which describes the XRT response and the amount of OBF contamination. The ARF is dependent on the spatial distribution of the celestial target and the photon accumulation region on the detector, as well as observing conditions such as the observation date and satellite attitude. 47. XMM-Newton Observation of IC 310 in the Outer Region of the Perseus Cluster of Galaxies

Abstract: We present results from an XMM-Newton observation of the head-tail radio galaxy IC 310 located in the southwest region of the Perseus cluster. The spectrum is well-fitted by an absorbed power-law model with a photon index of $2.50 \pm 0.02$ with no significant absorption excess. The X-ray image shows a point-like emission at IC 310 without any signs of a structure correlated with the radio halo tail. The temperature of the intracluster medium surrounding IC 310 declines as a function of distance from the cluster center, from $ kT \sim 6$ keV in the northeast corner of the field of view to about 3 keV in the southwest region. Although we do not find any sharp edges in the surface brightness profile, a brightness excess over a smooth $\beta$ model by about 20% is seen. The temperature also rises by about 10% in the same region. 48. Probing Warm-Hot Intergalactic Medium Associated with the Virgo Cluster using an Oxygen Absorption Line

Abstract: To detect a warm-hot intergalactic medium associated with the large-scale structure of the universe, we observed a quasar behind the Virgo cluster with XMM-Newton. With a net exposure time of 54 ks, we marginally detected an OVIII K alpha absorption line at 650.9 +0.8/-1.9 eV in the RGS spectra, with a statistical confidence of 96.4 %. The observed line center energy is consistent with the redshift of M87, and hence the absorber is associated with the Virgo cluster. From the curve of growth, the OVIII column density was estimated to be > 7 x 10^16 cm^-2. In the EPIC spectra, excess emission was found after evaluating the hot intracluster medium in the Virgo cluster and various background components. We inspected the ROSAT All-Sky Survey map of the diffuse soft X-ray background, and confirmed that the level of the north and west regions just outside of the Virgo cluster is consistent with the background model that we used, while that of the east side is significantly higher and the enhancement is comparable with the excess emission found in the EPIC data. We consider a significant portion of the excess emission to be associated with the Virgo cluster, although a possible contribution from the North Polar Spur cannot be excluded. Using the column density and the emission measure and assuming an oxygen abundance of 0.1 and an ionization fraction of 0.4, we estimate that the mean electron density and the line-of-sight distance of the warm-hot gas are < 6 x 10^-5 cm^-3 and > 9 Mpc, respectively. Abstract: We present an analysis of mock spectral observation of warm-hot intergalactic medium (WHIM) using a constrained simulation of the local universe. The simulated map of oxygen emission lines from local WHIM reproduces well the observed structures traced by galaxies in the real local universe. We further attempt to perform mock observations of outer parts of simulated Coma cluster and A3627 adopting the expected performance of DIOS (Diffuse Intergalactic Oxygen Surveyor), which is proposed as a dedicated soft X-ray mission to search for cosmic missing baryons. We find that WHIMs surrounding nearby clusters are detectable with a typical exposure time of a day, and thus constitute realistic and promising targets for DIOS. We also find that an X-ray emitting clump in front of Coma cluster, recently reported in the XMM-Newton observation, has a counterpart in the simulated local universe, and its observed spectrum can be well reproduced in the simulated local universe if the gas temperature is set to the observationally estimated value., Comment: 25 pages, 3 tables, 16 figures. Abstract: We present our proposal for a small X-ray mission DIOS (Diffuse Intergalactic Oxygen Surveyor) to perform survey observations of warm-hot intergalactic medium using OVII and OVIII emission lines. This will be proposed to a small satellite program planned by ISAS/JAXA in Japan for a launch in 2008. The instrument consists of an array of TES microcalorimeters with an energy resolution 2 eV, cooled by mechanical coolers. The X-ray telescope will employ 4-stage reflection mirrors with a focal length as short as 70 cm and an angular resolution 2'. In addition to DIOS, we briefly describe the NeXT (New X-ray Telescope) mission, which is a larger Japanese X-ray observatory to be launched in 2010 and plans to explore non-thermal processes in the universe., Comment: 6 pages, 9 figures.
