An experiment addressing electron capture (EC) decay of hydrogen-like Pm60+142 ions has been conducted at the experimental storage ring (ESR) at GSI. The decay appears to be purely exponential and no modulations were observed. Decay times for about 9000 individual EC decays have been measured by applying the single-ion decay spectroscopy method. Both visually and automatically analysed data can be described by a single exponential decay with decay constants of 0.0126(7)s−1 for automatic analysis and 0.0141(7)s−1 for manual analysis. If a modulation superimposed on the exponential decay curve is assumed, the best fit gives a modulation amplitude of merely 0.019(15), which is compatible with zero and by 4.9 standard deviations smaller than in the original observation which had an amplitude of 0.23(4). Background: Rosacea, a chronic facial dermatosis, poses a substantial global prevalence burden. Its impact extends beyond physical symptoms, affecting patient quality of life, self‐esteem, and psychosocial functioning. This study aims to assess the health‐related quality of life and emotional well‐being in Jordanian rosacea patients in comparison to healthy controls. Methods: A case‐control study, matching for age and sex, was conducted among rosacea patients attending the outpatient department at a governmental secondary hospital in the north of Jordan between September 2022 and November 2023. Adult patients with a confirmed rosacea diagnosis for a duration of ≥ 3 months were paired with healthy controls. Health‐related quality of life, anxiety, and depression were evaluated using the Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI) and the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS), respectively. Disease severity was assessed using the Clinician's Erythema Assessment (CEA) grading system. Results: The study included 198 rosacea patients and 198 healthy controls. Rosacea patients exhibited significantly higher DLQI scores (mean 11.32 ± 5.4) compared to controls (mean 4.28 ± 2.3), indicating diminished quality of life. Subscale analysis revealed prominent differences in symptoms/feelings and daily activities. Additionally, rosacea patients reported elevated scores on the HADS anxiety (mean 9.38 ± 3.2) and depression (mean 8.19 ± 4.3) subscales in contrast to controls (mean 3.88 ± 2.18 and mean 3.41 ± 1.87, respectively). More than half (57%) of rosacea patients experienced moderate or severe anxiety, and nearly a third (31%) reported moderate or severe depression. Regression analyses revealed that higher disease severity significantly predicted worse quality of life (β = 0.384), anxiety (β = 0.352), and depression (β = 0.312). Conclusion: The study demonstrated that rosacea patients in Jordan experience significantly diminished quality of life and higher rates of anxiety and depression compared to healthy controls. Disease severity and multiple facial lesions emerged as strong predictors of poor psychological outcomes, while female gender increased vulnerability and longer disease duration showed a protective effect. These findings emphasize the need for routine psychological screening and a holistic treatment approach, particularly for newly diagnosed patients with severe disease manifestations. The aging ovary in mammals leads to the reduced production of sex hormones and a deterioration in follicle quality. The interstitial gland originates from the hypertrophy of the theca cells of atretic follicles and represents an accumulative structure of the ovary that may contribute to its aging. Here, reproductive and mature rabbit ovaries are used to determine whether the interstitial gland plays a crucial role in ovarian aging. We demonstrate that, in the mature ovary, interstitial gland cells accumulate lipid droplets and show ultrastructural characteristics of lipophagy. Furthermore, they undergo modifications and present a foamy appearance, do not express the pan-leukocyte CD-45 marker, and express CYP11A1. These cells are the first to present an increase in lipofuscin accumulation. In foamy cells, the expression of p21 remains low, PCNA expression is maintained at mature ages, and their nuclei do not show positivity for H2AX. The interstitial gland shows a significant increase in lipofuscin accumulation compared with the ovaries of younger rabbits, but lipofuscin accumulation remains constant at mature ages. Surprisingly, no accumulation of cells with DNA damage is evident, and an increase in proliferative cells is observed at the age of 36 months. The developmental activation of the corpus luteum (CL) structurally and functionally is critical for the temporally regulated establishment, maintenance, and termination of pregnancy in rats. In this study, we have investigated the possible involvement of autophagy in the regulation of the CL during pregnancy in rats. The expression ratio of microtubule-associated protein light chain 3 (LC3)-II/-I, a widely used indicator of autophagic activity, in the CL remained relatively stable until day 15 of pregnancy. Subsequently, it progressively increased until day 21, and then declined until day 3 postpartum. This fluctuation was closely associated with the tissue weight of the CL rather than progesterone (P4) production activity. Light and electron microscopy revealed the presence of immunoreactive LC3 aggregates and irregularly shaped autolysosome-like microstructures in the cytoplasm of luteal cells during late pregnancy. Notably, a bolus intrabursal injection of the autophagy inhibitor bafilomycin A1 on day 15 of pregnancy resulted in a significant reduction in luteal cell size and disrupted the normal alteration of circulating P4 levels. Consequently, treatment with this inhibitor increased the likelihood of the varied timing (both advanced and delayed) of delivery and led to reduced body weight in neonates when compared with the vehicle-treated control group. Our findings suggest that autophagy in the rat CL contributes to luteal tissue growth, influences P4 production, and thereby fine-tunes the regulation of gestation length in rats. Background: A combination of standard biomedical treatment and traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has been suggested as a therapeutic approach for rosacea that may significantly lower the recurrence rate and clinical symptom scores. We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) to evaluate the impact of this combination treatment on clinical symptom and TCM syndrome scores, as well as on the scores of the Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI), erythema index (EI), and interleukin 37 (IL-37) levels in patients with rosacea. Methods: The PROSPERO registration number for the study is CRD42023472737. We systematically searched the PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, China National Knowledge Infrastructure Wanfang Database, China Biomedical Medicine database (CBM), and the VIP information resource integration service platform (cqvip) databases for RCTs (published from the beginning to September 2023, regardless of the language used) that compared the traditional Chinese medicine and standard biomedical treatment combination treatment to conventional anti-rosacea treatments. Our primary outcomes comprised the clinical symptom and TCM syndrome scores, and the scores of Dermatology Life Quality Index, erythema index, and IL-37 levels. We used a random-effects model to evaluate the pooled data. Results: We identified 260 studies. Of these, 13 eligible studies were employed for analysis (N = 1,348 participants). Compared with other anti-rosacea treatments, the TCM and standard biomedical treatment combination treatment yielded an improved mean reduction in the clinical symptom score -2.24% [95% CI (-3.02 to -1.46), p < 0.00001], TCMsyndrome score -4.42 [95% CI (-5.33 to -3.50), p < 0.00001], and the score of DLQI of -2.55 [95% CI (-3.73 to -1.36), p < 0.00001], EI of -151.97 [95% CI (-276.59 to -27.36), p < 0.00001], and IL-37 level -4.23 [95% CI (-4.95 to -3.51), p = 0.854], aswell as in theoveralleffective rate risk ratio (RR) = 1.25 [95%CI (1.18, 1.32), p = 0.994] and the recurrence rate = 0.27 [95%CI (0.15, 0.46), p = 0.297]. Conclusion: The TCM and standard biomedical treatment combination treatment can provide a better outcome, including a reduction in the TCM syndrome and clinical symptom scores, and in the scores of DLQI, EI, and IL-37. Hence, this combination is a viable and more effective therapeutic approach for rosacea. W-doped ZnO thin films deposited on Si substrates with (100) orientation by sol–gel spin coating method at temperature 500 °C. W/Zn atomic ratio varies from 0% to 4%. Then, the UV detection performance analysis of p–n heterojunction UV photodetectors based on W-doped ZnO/Si is analyzed. The current–voltage curves of W-doped ZnO/Si are investigated in dark and exhibit diode-like rectifying behavior. Among doped ZnO/Si, sample with atomic ratio of W/Zn = 2% is the best candidate to study photodetector characteristics in UV range. The resulting device exhibits a rectification ratio RR of 5587 at ±5 V, a higher responsivity of 3.84 A W−1 and a photosensitivity value of 34 at 365 nm under 0.5 mW cm−2. The experimental findings reveal that the UV detection performance of the heterojunction-based photodetectors strongly dependent on the properties of metal oxide layer. The main goal of this work is to investigate the effect of W doping on the performance of ZnO/Si based photodetectors. Based on our results, it is observed that 2 at% of W dopant is the optimum amount of doping for high performance photodetector of ZnO:W/Si heterojunction thanks to the suppressed recombination ratio and enhanced carrier separation properties in the depletion zone. Background: The parallel and continued improvements in both infertility treatment and the management of malignancy cases have brought to the forefront the potential for fertility preservation. Using ovarian follicular resources can effectively improve reproductive capacity and prevent infertility. The primary aim of this research was to try to generate an appropriate in vivo environment for the growth of the mouse follicles. Hence, the possible effects of the ovarian parenchyma cell suspension were explored on the growth and maturation of preantral follicles in vitro. Materials and Methods: In this experimental study, ovarian parenchymal cells were mechanically dissociated from preantral follicles of 12-14 days-old NMRI mice and then divided into 5 experimental groups (G1: Control, G2: Fresh follicle with fresh parenchyma cell suspension, G3: Vitrified-warmed follicle with fresh parenchyma cell suspension, G4: Fresh follicle with frozen-thawed parenchyma cell suspension, and G5: Vitrified-warmed follicle with frozenthawed parenchyma cell suspension). The diameter of the follicles and immature oocytes, viability, antrum formation, resumption of meiosis, in vitro fertilization (IVF), and Gdf9, Bmp6, and Bmp15 gene expression were examined on different periods. Results: The diameter of the follicles and the oocytes on days 4 and 8, as well as the survival rate of the follicles up to day 12, were significantly higher in G2 and G4 compared to the Ctrl group (G1: 73.66%, G2:87.99%, G3: 82.70%, G4: 94.37%, and G5: 78.59%). Expression of growth marker genes for G3, and G5 groups was significantly higher than other groups, which indicated the protective effects of parenchyma cell suspension on follicles damaged by vitrification solutions. Conclusion: The growth, survival, and maturation of preantral follicles could be enhanced by co-culturing them with ovarian parenchyma cells. Further studies are needed to optimize the conditions for a successful parenchyma cell suspension-induced in vitro maturation (IVM) to occur in infertility clinics. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

STUDY QUESTION Is pronuclear transfer (PNT) capable of restoring embryo developmental arrest caused by cytoplasmic inferiority of in vitro -grown (IVG) mouse oocytes? SUMMARY ANSWER PNT to in vivo matured cytoplasm significantly improved embryo development of IVG mouse oocytes, leading to living, fertile offspring. WHAT IS KNOWN ALREADY In vitro follicle culture has been considered as a fertility preservation option for cancer patients. Studies describing the culture of human follicles remain scarce, owing to low availability of tissue. Mouse models have extensively been used to study and optimize follicle culture. Although important achievements have been accomplished, including the production of healthy offspring in mice, IVG oocytes are of inferior quality when compared to in vivo -grown oocytes, likely because of cytoplasmic incompetence. STUDY DESIGN, SIZE, DURATION The study was carried out from September 2020 to February 2022. In total, 120 15-day-old B6D2 mice were used to perform secondary follicle culture and assess the quality of IVG oocytes. In vivo -grown control oocytes were obtained from 85 8- to 12-week-old B6D2 mice, following ovarian stimulation. For sperm collection, four B6D2 males between 10 and 14 weeks old were used. For embryo transfer, 14 8- to 12-week-old CD1 females served as surrogate mothers and 10 CD1 vasectomized males 10–24 weeks old were used to generate pseudo-pregnant females. Finally, for mating, four B6D2 female mice aged 8–10 weeks and two B6D2 male mice aged 10 weeks old were used to confirm the fertility of nuclear transfer (NT)-derived pups. PARTICIPANTS/MATERIALS, SETTING, METHODS Secondary follicles from 15-day-old B6D2 mice were isolated from the ovaries and cultured for 9 days, before a maturation stimulus was given. Following 16–18 h of maturation, oocytes were collected and evaluated on maturation rate, oocyte diameter, activation rate, spindle morphology, calcium-releasing ability, and mitochondrial membrane potential. For every experiment, in vivo -grown oocytes were used as a control for comparison. When cytoplasmic immaturity and poor embryo development were confirmed in IVG oocytes, PNT was performed. For this, the pronuclei from IVG oocytes, created following parthenogenetic activation and IVF, were transferred to the cytoplasm of fertilized, in vivo -grown oocytes. Genetic analysis and embryo transfer of the generated embryos were implemented to confirm the safety of the technique. MAIN RESULTS AND THE ROLE OF CHANCE Following 9 days of follicle culture, 703 oocytes were collected, of which 76% showed maturation to the metaphase II stage. Oocyte diameters were significantly lower in IVG oocytes, measuring 67.4 μm versus 73.1 μm in controls (P  < 0.001). Spindle morphology did not differ significantly between IVG and control oocytes, but calcium-releasing ability was compromised in the IVG group. An average calcium release of 1.62 arbitrary units was observed in IVG oocytes, significantly lower than 5.74 in control oocytes (P  < 0.001). Finally, mitochondrial membrane potential was inferior in IVG compared to the control group, reaching an average value of 0.95 versus 2.27 (P  < 0.001). Developmental potential of IVG oocytes was assessed following parthenogenetic activation with strontium chloride (SrCl2). Only 59.4% of IVG oocytes cleaved to two cells and 36.3% reached the blastocyst stage, significantly lower than 89.5% and 88.2% in control oocytes, respectively (P  < 0.001 and 0.001). Both PNT and spindle transfer (ST) were explored in pilot experiments with parthenogenetically activated oocytes, as a means to overcome poor embryo development. After the added value of NT was confirmed, we continued with the generation of biparental embryos by PNT. For this purpose, IVG and control oocytes first underwent IVF. Only 15.5% of IVG oocytes were normally fertilized, in contrast to 45.5% in controls (P  < 0.001), with resulting failure of blastocyst formation in the IVG group (0 versus 86.2%, P  < 0.001). When the pronuclei of IVG zygotes were transferred to the cytoplasm of control zygotes, the blastocyst rate was restored to 86.9%, a similar level as the control. Genetic analysis of PNT embryos revealed a normal chromosomal profile, to a rate of 80%. Finally, the generation of living, fertile offspring from PNT was possible following embryo transfer to surrogate mothers. LARGE-SCALE DATA N/A. LIMITATIONS, REASONS FOR CAUTION Genetic profiles of analysed embryos from PNT originate from groups that are too small to draw concrete conclusions, whilst ST, which would be the preferred NT approach, could not be used for the generation of biparental embryos owing to technical limitations. Even though promising, the use of PNT should be considered as experimental. Furthermore, results were acquired in a mouse model, so validation of the technique in human IVG oocytes needs to be performed to evaluate the clinical relevance of the technology. The genetic profiles from IVG oocytes, which would be the ultimate characterization for chromosomal abnormalities, were not analysed owing to limitations in the reliable analysis of single cells. WIDER IMPLICATIONS OF THE FINDINGS PNT has the ability to overcome the poor cytoplasmic quality of IVG mouse oocytes. Considering the low maturation efficiency of human IVG oocytes and potential detrimental effects following long-term in vitro culture, NT could be applied to rescue embryo development and could lead to an increased availability of good quality embryos for transfer. Background and Aim: Psoriasis is a persistent inflammatory disorder that affects 3% of the population and is associated with cardiovascular diseases. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the correlations between complete blood cell count (CBC)-derived inflammatory biomarkers, psoriasis prevalence, and all-cause mortality.Methods: Data were obtained from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) spanning 2003– 2006 and 2009– 2014. Mortality data up to December 31, 2019 were obtained using the National Death Index. The following CBC-derived inflammatory biomarkers were examined: neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio (NLR), neutrophil/(white blood cells ˗ neutrophils) ratio (dNLR), monocyte count/lymphocyte ratio (MLR), (neutrophil + monocyte)/lymphocyte ratio (NMLR), platelet/lymphocyte ratio (PLR), and systemic inflammatory response index (SIRI). Weighted logistic and Cox regression analyses were used to calculate odds ratios, hazard ratios, and the corresponding 95% confidence intervals. Additionally, the prognostic value of the inflammatory indicators was assessed and ranked using the random survival forest approach.Results: In total, data from 21,431 participants with average age of 45.02 ± 0.27 years (49.51% male) were included in the study, among which 600 participants were positive for psoriasis (prevalence rate, 2.80%). Additionally, 79 all-cause deaths were recorded during a median follow-up period of 8.83 (6.67– 11.00) years. Moreover, NLR, dNLR, NMLR, PLR, and SIRI were positively associated with the prevalence of psoriasis. Furthermore, MLR, NMLR, and SIRI were positively correlated with all-cause mortality in patients with psoriasis, with NMLR being the most valuable predictor of all-cause mortality.Conclusion: CBC-derived inflammatory biomarkers were associated with psoriasis prevalence, NMLR, SIRI, and MLR values were associated with all-cause mortality in patients with psoriasis. Overall, assessment of these CBC-derived indicators may serve as a simple method for screening high-risk individuals among patients with psoriasis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The anomaly of the residual proton–neutron interaction δ V pn for Ra isotopes around N = 1 3 5 deviating from the general trend, the so-called Ra puzzle, is investigated within the framework of covariant density functional theory in three-dimensional lattice space. The potential energy surfaces in (β 2 0 , β 3 0) plane for Ra isotopes are given by the constrained calculations. The average values of proton–neutron interaction δ V pn extracted from the binding energies of Ra and Rn isotopes with axial, triaxial and reflection asymmetric calculations are compared with the data from AME2020 atomic mass evaluation. Rosacea is a chronic skin condition with a global incidence ranging from 1% to 22%, affecting mainly women aged between 30 and 55 years. The etiopathogenesis of rosacea is complex, involving genetic factors, cutaneous or intestinal dysbiosis, neurovascular dysfunction, or immune disorders. Clinically, it is characterized by persistent or transient facial erythema, papules, pustules, phymatous changes, ocular manifestations, and associated symptoms such as burning sensation or local stinging. Physical appearance and facial features significantly influence all social aspects a person experiences, from various interpersonal relationships to employment decisions. The disease can lead to social stigmatization and significantly reduce the quality of life. The chronic course of rosacea and its predominant facial localization, visible in the patient's social environment, justify the increased incidence of psychiatric comorbidities in these patients. Rosacea is an easily observable condition, especially due to persistent redness, which often leads to the development of feelings of anxiety or social phobia, stigmatization, or comorbidities such as depression, generalized anxiety, or bipolar disorder. Currently, the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology (EADV) Task Force on Quality of Life in rosacea recommend the use of specific scores for inflammatory dermatological diseases, such as the Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI) and the Minimal Clinically Important Difference (MCID), as well as the specific rosacea score RosaQoL. The current study aims to describe the psychosocial impact of rosacea on these patients. Due to the increased incidence of depression and anxiety in this patient group, great attention must be given to signs and symptoms of psychiatric comorbidities, and the therapeutic approach should target both dermatological treatment and associated treatment from the perspective of a psychiatrist or psychologist. The implantable electronic devices have attracted great attention for solving clinical problems ranging from monitoring psychological states to electro‐organ transplantation. The ongoing challenges are the selection of suitable materials in a target device configuration for biomedical applications. To address the ongoing challenges, there are several interesting questions: what types of electronic materials can be used as the implantable electrodes? What types of materials can be used as the substrates for the implantable electronic devices? What types of materials can be used as membranes and encapsulations? What types of device configurations are there for implantable biomedical applications? What types of applications are for implantable electronic devices? This review will highlight the attempts for addressing these questions. This review will explore the fundamentals and practical aspects of a variety of materials and their biomedical applications in implantable electronic devices. It is anticipated that this review could provide new opportunities for the construction of future implantable electronic devices, as well as related applications for disease diagnosis and therapy. Background: Rosacea appears predominantly in highly visible areas of the facial region. Objective: To investigate the psychological status and quality of life(QOL) of rosacea. Methods: We used a hospital-based cross-sectional analytical study design between Jan 1, 2020, and Jan 1, 2021. We analyzed the differences and correlations in the severity of rosacea and its impacts on QOL and mental health, separately. Results: 469 patients with rosacea were included. The mean Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI) score was 12.6± 7.7 and the affected level of DLQI was moderately severe. The total score of Rosacea-specific Quality-of-Life instrument (RosQol) was 2.34 ± 0.84, and the scores of emotion, symptoms, and function were 2.41 ± 0.99, 2.37 ± 0.82, and 2.03 ± 0.89, respectively. 44.8% of patients suffered from anxiety and 37.5% from depression. There were statistically significant differences in the incidence of anxiety (p < 0.001), the DLQL (p =0.02), RosQol emotion (p =0.04), symptom (p < 0.01) and function (p =0.02) scores in the different severity. In addition, worsening QOL was significantly associated with increased disease severity [Spearman's rank correlation index (r) ranging from 0.171 to 0.266,p< 0.01 (RosQol); r =0.104,p =0.024 (DLQI)]. There was also a positive correlation between anxiety [r =0.155; p< 0.01] and the different severity levels. Conclusion: Rosacea maybe has a greater significant impact on patient's QOL and mental health. And the impact of QOL and mental health tend to deteriorate significantly with increasing disease severity. Cognitive impairment is a symptom of neurological disorders, including dementia and Alzheimer's disease; and mild cognitive impairment can be a precursor of both disorders. Aged humans and animal models with other systemic disorders, such as cardiovascular diseases and diabetes, display a higher incidence of cognitive decline. Epidemiological studies have shown that the incidence of cognitive impairment also is higher in subjects with certain inflammatory skin disorders, including psoriasis and chronic eczematous dermatitis. Chronologically aged individuals exhibit increased cutaneous inflammation and elevated circulating cytokine levels, linked to alterations in epidermal function, which itself can induce cutaneous inflammation. Conversely, strategies that improve epidermal function can lower cytokine levels in both the skin and circulation. Thus, it seems likely that epidermal dysfunction could contribute, at least in part, to the development of chronic low‐grade inflammation, also termed 'inflammaging', in the elderly. The evidence of cognitive impairment in patients with inflammatory dermatoses suggests a link between cutaneous inflammation and cognitive impairment. Bohr Hamiltonian with inversely quadratic Yukawa plus screened Kratzer potential for the β -part and a harmonic oscillator for the γ -part is investigated. The expressions of energies and wave functions are obtained using the parametric Nikiforov–Uvarov method. The obtained results are used to evaluate the normalized eigen energies, the root mean square deviation and B (E 2) transition rates of 1 9 2 Pt, 1 9 4 Pt and 1 9 6 Pt atomic nuclei. The numerical results of our model are compared to those of other relevant theoretical models and experimental data. Furthermore, to test the sensitive signature of triaxiality, we used some indicators such as the staggering effect in the γ -band. Foodborne pathogens contamination is one of the main sources of food safety problems. Although the existing detection methods have been developed for a long time, the complexity of food samples is still the main factor affecting the detection time and sensitivity, and the rapid separation and enrichment of pathogens is still an objective to be studied. Magnetic separation strategy based on magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) is considered to be an effective tool for rapid separation and enrichment of foodborne pathogens in food. Therefore, this study comprehensively reviews the development of MNPs in the separation of foodborne pathogens over the past decade. First, various biorecognition reagents for identification of foodborne pathogens and their modifications on the surface of MNPs are introduced. Then, the factors affecting the separation of foodborne pathogens, including the size of MNPs, modification methods, separation strategies and separation forms are discussed. Finally, the application of MNPs in integrated detection methods is reviewed. Moreover, current challenges and prospects of MNPs for the analysis of foodborne pathogens are discussed. Further research should focus on the design of multifunctional MNPs, the processing of large‐scale samples, the simultaneous analysis of multiple targets, and the development of all‐in‐one small analytical device with separation and detection. A novel pure and transparent bacterial nanocellulose (BNC) membrane was produced by in situ fermentation under static conditions using a defined minimal culture medium. BNC–Minimal membranes were characterized and compared with membranes produced in a usual complex medium, Mannitol. Morphological and physicochemical properties were investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), BET-surface area, water holding capacity (WHC), X-ray diffractometry, light transmittance, refractive index, stress–strain measurements, and infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). Most importantly, the study was based on the use of a different culture medium and not on the addition of other components in the complex medium composition to make BNC-based composites more transparent. Our results revealed a high transparency of the BNC membranes produced in defined minimal medium, while the opacity of the usual BNC–Mannitol membranes was clearly noticed. BNC–Minimal membranes are pure cellulose and presented a different 3D microstructure, exhibiting porous surface on both sides. In addition, the BNC–Minimal membranes exhibit enhanced properties, like better elasticity, higher water holding capacity, greater surface area, higher crystallinity, and light transmittance. These results suggest that BNC–Minimal membranes are promising functional materials for several applications, including 3D platforms for better visualization of the cells, wound healing process that can be easily monitored without removing the dressing, optical devices. Background: The neural basis of rosacea is not well understood. This study aimed to determine whether cerebral glucose metabolism (CGM) changes on 18F‐fluorodeoxyglucose (18F‐FDG) positron emission tomography (PET)/computed tomography (CT) scans can detect functional network changes in specific brain areas in patients with rosacea. Materials and methods: Eight adults with rosacea and 10 age/sex‐matched healthy adults (controls) were enrolled in the study. 18F‐FDG PET/CT brain images for all eight patients and whole‐body images for two of the patients were analyzed qualitatively and semi‐quantitatively. Differences between the study groups were examined using Fischer's exact test and a Student's t‐test. A voxel‐based analysis using statistical parametric mapping was performed to compare the brain metabolism of the patients with that of the controls. Results: Compared with the controls, the patients with rosacea showed extensive changes in the CGM signals in the cerebral cortex and limbic system, with less CGM shown in the right superior parietal lobule, right postcentral gyrus, right parahippocampal gyrus, left superior frontal gyrus, and lateral posterior thalamic nucleus and more CGM in the right precentral gyrus, left inferior frontal gyrus, and cerebellar tonsil. No dysmetabolic lesions were found in the whole‐body 18F‐FDG PET/CT images. Conclusion: Specific neural functional changes occur in patients with rosacea that may explain its pathogenesis. Current strategies for fertility preservation include the cryopreservation of embryos, mature oocytes or ovarian cortical tissue for autologous transplantation. However, not all patients that could benefit from fertility preservation can use the currently available technology. In this regard, obtaining functional mature oocytes from ovarian cortical tissue in vitro would represent a major breakthrough in fertility preservation as well as in human medically assisted reproduction. In this study, we have used a microfluidics platform to culture cryopreserved-thawed human cortical tissue for a period of 8 days and evaluated the effect of two different flow rates in follicular activation and growth. The results showed that this dynamic system supported follicular development up to the secondary stage within 8 days, albeit with low efficiency. Surprisingly, the stromal cells in the ovarian cortical tissue were highly sensitive to flow and showed high levels of apoptosis when cultured under high flow rate. Moreover, after 8 days in culture, the stromal compartment showed increase levels of collagen deposition, in particular in static culture. Although microfluidics dynamic platforms have great potential to simulate tissue-level physiology, this system still needs optimization to meet the requirements for an efficient in vitro early follicular growth. Background: Assembling an artificial ovary needs supporting the in vitro growth of cumulus cells, and finally, follicles. This study aimed to determine the appropriate cocktail for culture of cumulus cells (CCs). Methods: CCs were collected from healthy women and cultured with 9 cocktails of basal media, supplemented with 10% and 20% fetal bovine serum (FBS) and 1% and 2% human serum albumin (HSA). Ovarian cells were isolated from cortex, medulla, and hilum, and their conditioned media (CM) were collected. Expression of GDF9 in ovarian cells was evaluated. CCs were treated with various concentrations of CMs from ovarian cells and mesenchymal stem cells. Also, they were cultured with various concentrations of supplements including L-Glutamine, bovine serum albumin (BSA), HSA, insulin transferrin selenium (ITS), Follitropin alfa, and Pregnyl. Also, they were treated with various concentrations of follicular fluids (FFs), collected from patients with different infertility etiologies. Finally, CCs proliferation and culture stability were evaluated. Results: All the ovarian cells expressed GDF9. DMEMF12 + 20% FBS was the most suitable cocktail for CCs. 20% FBS was superior to 10% FBS. HSA alone could not support the growth of CCs. The CMs of (cortical + hilar + medullar) cells and FFs from healthy women caused higher CCs proliferation. 17 mM/l L-Glutamine, 24 mg/ml BSA, 20 mg/ml HSA, 10 ng/ml ITS, 300 mIU/ml Follitropinα, and 3.5 IU/ml Pregnyl led to higher CCs proliferation. Conclusion: Supplementation of the basal medium with CMs, serums, FFs, hormones, ITS and L-Glutamine, can better support the culture of CCs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Rosacea is a chronic inflammatory skin disease that affects people's life quality. It has been found to be related to many detrimental factors including ultraviolet exposure. However, the association between alcohol consumption and rosacea has long been debated. Aims: To elucidate this association, we conducted a systematic review and meta‐analysis. Methods: We performed a systematic search of the literature published before February 16, 2021 on PubMed, Embase, and the Cochrane database and used a meta‐analytic approach to calculate the pooled odds ratios (ORs) and the corresponding 95% confidence intervals (CIs). Results: Finally, 14 eligible studies were identified, and alcohol consumption was not found to be a risk factor for rosacea. However, in subgroup analysis, alcohol consumption increased the risk of phymatous rosacea (PhR) and the pooled OR was 4.17 (95% CI = 1.76–9.91). Conclusion: Overall, our study showed that alcohol consumption was a risk factor in phymatous rosacea (PhR). More studies of rosacea investigating sex distribution, alcohol intake levels, and types of alcoholic beverages consumed are needed in the future. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

We have very recently demonstrated that lipophagy, a special form of autophagy, mediates the association of the lipid droplets (LDs) with lysosomes to deliver the lipid cargo within the LDs to lysosomes for degradation in order to release free cholesterol required for steroid synthesis in human ovary and testis. Background: Rosacea is a chronic inflammatory skin disease characterized with increased serum and tissue inflammatory mediators. IL‐17 is a well‐known inflammatory mediator that plays important roles in pathogenesis of inflammatory skin diseases. Previous studies reported that Th17 pathway is activated in rosacea and IL‐17, one of Th17 signature cytokines, is elevated in tissue samples of rosacea patients. Objectives: The aim of this study was to investigate serum IL‐17 levels in rosacea patients and to study its relationship with disease characteristics. Methods: Sixty patients diagnosed with rosacea and 60 healthy controls were included in the study. Serum IL‐17 concentrations were measured using enzyme‐linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Results: The mean serum IL‐17 level was 8.03 pg/mL (SD = 1.47) in rosacea patients and 7.37 pg/mL (Sd = 1.19) in controls. Serum IL‐17 levels were significantly higher in rosacea (p = 0.002). Serum IL‐17 levels were similar among patients with erythematotelangiectatic (ET) and papulopustular (PP) rosacea (8.02 vs 8.06, p = 0.83). Serum IL‐17 levels did not correlate with rosacea severity (p = 0.59, r = 0.07 in ET rosacea; p = 0.88, r = 0.02 in PP rosacea), age of onset (p = 0.58, r = −0.07), and disease duration (p = 0.37, r = −0.11). Primary features and global assessments did not correlate with serum IL‐17 levels (all p > 0.05). Among secondary features, edema showed a significant negative correlation with serum IL‐17 concentrations (p = 0.037, r = −0.26). Conclusions: Our study showed increased serum IL‐17 levels in rosacea patients and a significant correlation between IL‐17 concentrations and secondary features of the disease suggesting IL‐17 may contribute to pathogenesis of rosacea and may be a new target for rosacea treatment. Introduction: Depression and anxiety are common among people with rosacea. However, the exact magnitude of the prevalence rate and odds ratios (ORs) for depression and anxiety, respectively, in rosacea patients is unclear, and no systematic review or meta-analysis of published data has yet been performed. We therefore performed as systematic review and meta-analysis to determine the prevalence rates and ORs for depression and anxiety in rosacea patients. Methods: We performed a systematic search of the PubMed, Embase and Medline databases for all observational studies published up to October 2020 that reported the prevalence rates and ORs for depression and anxiety in patients with rosacea. The primary outcome measures were prevalence rates and ORs for depression and anxiety in patients with rosacea. Heterogeneity across studies was assessed with the I2 statistic. Sources of heterogeneity were explored through subgroup and meta-regression analyses. Results: A total of 14 studies involving 14,134,021 patients with rosacea were included in the systematic review and meta-analysis. The pooled prevalence of depression was 19.6% (95% confidence interval [CI] 15.0–24.3%) and that of anxiety was 15.6% (95% CI 11.8–19.3%). The prevalence of depression and anxiety was significantly lower in studies using clinical criteria to diagnose depression and anxiety (9.2 and 10.2%, respectively) than in those studies using screening tools (26.2% [P < 0.01] and 22.7% [P = 0.03], respectively). The methodological quality of the included studies greatly contributed to the heterogeneity. Patients with rosacea were more likely to experience depression (OR 2.21, 95% CI 1.79–2.72) and anxiety (OR 2.31, 95% CI 1.56–3.44) than healthy controls. Conclusions: This systematic review and meta-analysis indicates that patients with rosacea are at a higher risk of experiencing depression and anxiety.
