Precise protein supplementation strategies for muscle improvement are still lacking. The timing or type of protein supplementation has been debated as a window of opportunity to improve muscle mass, strength, and physical performance. We conducted a network meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials with protein supplements and resistance training. PubMed, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, and SPORTDiscus databases were searched until May 1, 2023. We included 116 eligible trials with 4,711 participants that reported on 11 timing and 14 types of protein supplementation. Compared with placebo, protein supplementation after exercise (mean difference [MD]: 0.54 kg [95% confidence intervals 0.10, 0.99] for fat-free mass, MD: 0.34 kg [95% confidence intervals 0.10, 0.58] for skeletal muscle mass) and at night (MD: 2.85 kg [0.49, 5.22] for handgrip strength, MD: 12.12 kg [3.26, 20.99] for leg press strength) was most effective in improving muscle mass and strength, respectively (moderate certainty). Milk proteins (milk, whey protein, yogurt, casein, and bovine colostrum), red meat, and mixed protein were effective for gains in both muscle mass and strength (moderate certainty). No timing or type of protein showed a significant enhancement in physical performance (timed up-to-go test, 6-min walk test, and gait speed). Pre/postexercise and Night are key recommended times of protein intake to increase muscle mass and strength, respectively. Milk proteins are the preferred types of protein supplements for improving muscle mass and strength. Future randomized controlled trials that directly compare the effects of protein timing or types are needed. Gold chloride clusters play an important role in catalysis and materials chemistry. Due to the diversity of their species and isomers, there is still a dearth of structural studies at the molecular level. In this work, anions of AunCln+3- and AunCln+5- (n = 2-4) clusters were obtained by laser desorption/ionization mass spectrometry (LDI MS), and the most stable isomers of AunCln+3- were determined after a thorough search and optimization at the TPSSh/aug-cc-pVTZ/ECP60MDF level. The results indicate that all isomers with the lowest energy have a planar zigzag skeleton. In each species, there is one Au(III) atom at the edge connected with four Cl atoms, which sets it from the other Au(I) atoms. Four growth pathways for AunCln+3- (n = 2-7) clusters are proposed (labelled R1, R2, R3 and R4). They are all associated with an aurophilic contact and are exothermic. The binding energies tend to stabilize at --41kcal/mol when the size of the cluster increases in all pathways. The pathway R1, which connects all the most stable isomers of the respective clusters, is characterized by cluster growth due to aurophilic interactions at the terminal atom of Au(I) in the zigzag chains. In the pathway of R4 involving Au-Au bonding in its initial structures (n < 3), the distance between intermediate gold atoms grows with cluster size, ultimately resulting in the transfer of the intermediate Au-Au bonding into aurophilic interaction. The size effect on the structure and aurophilic interactions of these clusters will be better understood based on these discoveries, potentially providing new insights into the active but elusive chemical species involved in the corresponding catalytic reactions or nanoparticle synthesis processes. Nucleoside radicals are key intermediates in the process of DNA damage, and alkali metal ions are a common group of ions in living organisms. However, so far, there has been a significant lack of research on the structural effects of alkali metal ions on nucleoside free radicals. In this study, we report a new method for generating metalized nucleoside radical cations in the gas phase. The radical cations [Ade+M-H]•+ (M = Li, Na) are generated by the 280 nm ultraviolet photodissociation (UVPD) of the precursor ions of lithiated and sodiated ions of 2-iodoadenine in a Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance (FT ICR) cell. Further infrared multiphoton dissociation (IRMPD) spectra of both radical cations were recorded in the region of 2750–3750 cm−1. By combining these results with theoretical calculations, the most stable isomers of both radicals can be identified, which share the common characteristics of triple coordination patterns of the metal ions. For both radical species, the lowest-energy isomers undergo hydrogen transfer. Although the sugar ring in the most stable isomer of [Ade+Li-H]•+ is in a (South, syn) conformation similar to that of [Ado+Na]+, [Ade+Na-H]•+ is distinguished by the unexpected opening of the sugar ring. Their theoretical spectra are in good agreement with experimental spectra. However, due to the flexibility of the structures and the complexity of their potential energy surfaces, the hydrogen transfer pathways still need to be further studied. Considering that the free radicals formed directly after C-I cleavage have some similar spectral characteristics, the existence of these corresponding isomers cannot be ruled out. The findings imply that the structures of nucleoside radicals may be significantly influenced by the attached alkali metal ions. Allicin, a thiosulfonate extract from freshly minced garlic, has been reported to have various biological effects on different organs and systems of animals and human. It can reduce oxidative stress, inhibit inflammatory response, resist pathogen infection and regulate intestinal flora. In addition, dozens of studies also demonstrated allicin could reduce blood glucose level, protect cardiovascular system and nervous system, and fight against cancers. Allicin was widely used in disease prevention and health care. However, more investigations on human cohort study are needed to verify the biological or clinical effects of allicin in the future. In this review, we summarized the biological effects of allicin from previous outstanding and valuable studies and provided useful information for future studies on the health effects of allicin. In this paper, periodic and hybrid trichiral structure is developed as the raft in a floating raft system to enhance isolation performance in the medium and high-frequency range. Firstly, wave propagation in the periodic trichiral structure is analyzed through Bloch theorem. Further study of the hybrid trichiral structure, consisting of multilayer of cells with different geometry, demonstrates that the stop band of this assembly is the superposition of the band gap generated by individual cells. This feature can be used to extend the stop band without affecting the performance in other frequencies. Vibration transmission of the floating raft system is studied through frequency response function based substructuring method. Numerical examples indicate that the sound power radiated from the foundation can be greatly attenuated in the stop band of the periodic trichiral raft. Based on the feature of hybrid structure, an optimization scheme with respect to the trichiral raft is developed with the aim of minimizing the radiated sound power of the system. Non-typhoidal Salmonella (NTS) is a foodborne pathogen and a prevalent causative agent for disease outbreaks globally. The Salmonella enterica serovar 4,[5],12:i:- (S.4,[5],12:i:-) belongs to the monophasic variant of Salmonella typhimurium, which is of current global concern. In this study, the epidemiology and genomic characterization of S. 4,[5],12:i:- isolates from 17 livestock farms in Hunan Province between 2019 and 2020, as well as their susceptibility to 14 antimicrobial agents, were profiled. Twelve Salmonella serotypes were identified using the White–Kauffmann–Le Minor scheme, and whole-genome sequencing analyses were conducted based on these isolates. Overall, 107 Salmonella strains were isolated, of which 73% (78/107) were multidrug resistant. Resistance to tetracycline (85.05%) was found to be the most prevalent, followed by the oqxAB and aac(6′)-Ib-cr genes. S. typhimurium (monophasic) 4,[5],12:i:- was the most common serotype, followed by S. typhimurium and S. derby. Most antimicrobial-resistant strains were isolated from pigs, indicating that they could be important reservoirs of resistant non-typhoidal Salmonella strains. The presence of similar genetic environments in S. 4,[5],12:i:- indicates both vertical and horizontal transmission of resistance plasmids, which may promote the spread of drug resistance genes. Due to the increasing bacterial resistance to conventional antibiotics, developing safe and effective approaches to combat infections caused by bacteria and biofilms has become an urgent clinical problem. Recently, carbon dots (CDs) have received great attention as a promising alternative to conventional antimicrobial agents due to their excellent antimicrobial efficacy and biocompatibility. Although CDs have been widely used in the field of antibacterial applications, their antibacterial and antibiofilm mechanisms have not been systematically discussed. Aim: To evaluate the effectiveness and safety of Danmu Extract Syrup for the treatment of acute upper respiratory tract infection (AURI) in children. Methods: In this prospective cohort study, we enrolled children with AURI in the pediatric outpatient department and emergency department of West China Second Hospital. According to the treatment, they were divided into two groups: Danmu Extract Syrup Group (Danmu Group) and Xiaoer Chiqiao Granule Group (Chiqiao Group). The primary outcome was time to symptom remission, and the secondary outcomes were defervescence time, relief time, admission rate, and adherence. We used restricted mean survival time (RMST) to quantify the treatment effects and test noninferiority for primary outcome. Propensity score matching (PSM) was used to adjust confounding. Subgroup analysis and sensitivity analysis were used to verify the robustness of results. Results: We enrolled 1036 children with AURI, including 516 in Danmu Group and 520 in Chiqiao Group. After PSM, no significant difference was observed in the baseline characteristics of the two groups. The primary results showed that the RMST difference was –3 h (95% CI: –15.1 to 9.1) and the upper limit of the 95% CI was less than the noninferiority margin of 11 h. There was no statistical difference in the secondary outcomes except for defervescence between the two groups. The results of safety analysis showed that the incidence of adverse events occurred is 4.1% in Danmu Group, which was lower than the incidence of Chiqiao Group (6.9%). Conclusion: This study indicated that Danmu extract syrup is noninferiority to Chiqiao Granule for AURI in children. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Summary: Sweet almond is one of the main cash crops in Yingjisha, Xinjiang Autonomous Region, China. The composition of sweet almond oil (SAO) was analysed by gas chromatography‐mass spectrometry (GC‐MS). SAO's antioxidant activities were investigated by measuring its scavenging ability with 1,1‐diphenyl‐2‐picrylhydrazyl (DPPH), 2,2′‐Azino‐bis (3‐ethylbenzothiazoline‐6‐sulfonic acid) (ABTS), hydroxyl radical scavenging assay and 6‐hydroxy‐2,5,7,8‐tetramethylchroman‐2‐carboxylic acid (Trolox) equivalent antioxidant capacity (TEAC) assay. Furthermore, in vivo antioxidant capacity was assessed using Saccharomyces cerevisiae model stimulated by hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and carbon tetrachloride (CCl4). The results showed that SAO was mainly composed of methyl oleate (21.28%), methyl stearate (18.55%) and methyl palmitate (14.1%). In vitro antioxidant test results showed that compared with the scavenging three free radicals capacity of 1 mmol L−1 Trolox, the SAO needed to reach 5 mg mL−1, 20 mg mL−1 and less than 20 mg mL−1, respectively. In vivo experiments showed that SAO rescued the survival and inhibited intracellular oxidation and lipid peroxidation of Saccharomyces cerevisiae exposed to H2O2 and CCl4. Additionally, our results showed that the catalase encoded by the Gsh1 gene may be involved in the mechanism of action of SAO against intracellular oxidation. Currently, treatment of intracranial diseases still remains a great challenge because the blood–brain barrier (BBB) blocks access of most drugs to the central nervous system. Herein, a theranostic small molecular probe, iRGD‐ICG‐Lys‐DTPA@Gd (iRGD‐ILD), capable of crossing BBB is developed. Owing to the small molecular size and αvβ3 integrin receptor–mediated transcytosis, this tailor‐made molecular probe integrating the fluorescence and magnetic resonance imaging functions effectively passes through BBB to target tumor cells even in the early stage of glioblastoma multiforme (GBM), thereby allowing a bimodal imaging–guided therapy of GBM. The reactive oxygen species and heat generated by the ICG moiety under the 808 nm laser irradiation exert photodynamic/photothermal therapeutic effects, which results in significantly inhibited tumor growth and prolonged median survival of C6‐Luc glioma‐bearing mice. Notably, the integration of FDA‐approved clinically available agents, e.g., ICG, DTPA and Gd, into a molecular probe may ensure desirable biocompatibility and biosafety for in vivo applications. Abstract: The East Asian geological setting has a long duration related to the superconvergence of the Paleo‐Asian, Tethyan and Paleo‐Pacific tectonic domains. The Triassic Indosinian Movement contributed to an unified passive continental margin in East Asia. The later ophiolites and I‐type granites associated with subduction of the Paleo‐Pacific Plate in the Late Triassic, suggest a transition from passive to active continental margins. With the presence of the ongoing westward migration of the Paleo‐Pacific Subduction Zone, the sinistral transpressional stress field could play an important role in the intraplate deformation in East Asia during the Late Triassic to Middle Jurassic, being characterized by the transition from the E‐W‐trending structural system controlled by the Tethys and Paleo‐Asian oceans to the NE‐trending structural system caused by the Paleo‐Pacific Ocean subduction. The continuously westward migration of the subduction zones resulted in the transpressional stress field in East Asia marked by the emergence of the Eastern North China Plateau and the formation of the Andean‐type active continental margin from late Late Jurassic to Early Cretaceous (160‐135 Ma), accompanied by the development of a small amount of adakites. In the Late Cretaceous (135‐90 Ma), due to the eastward retreat of the Paleo‐Pacific Subduction Zone, the regional stress field was replaced from sinistral transpression to transtension. Since a large amount of late‐stage adakites and metamorphic core complexes developed, the Andean‐type active continental margin was destroyed and the Eastern North China Plateau started to collapse. In the Late Cretaceous, the extension in East Asia gradually decreased the eastward retreat of the Paleo‐Pacific subduction zones. Futhermore, a significant topographic inversion had taken place during the Cenozoic that resulted from a rapid uplift of the Tibet Plateau resulting from the India‐Eurasian collision and the formation of the Bohai Bay Basin and other basins in the East Asian continental margin. The inversion caused a remarkable eastward migration of deformation, basin formation and magmatism. Meanwhile, the basins that mainly developed in the Paleogene resulted in a three‐step topography which typically appears to drop eastward in altitude. In the Neogene, the basins underwent a rapid subsidence in some depressions after basin‐controlled faulting, as well as the intracontinental extensional events in East Asia, and are likely to be a contribution to the uplift of the Tibetan Plateau.
