The concept of self-legislation or autonomy is one of the outstanding innovations of Kant’s ethics. Nevertheless, it should not be ignored that it also builds on previous positions. Even if Kant in the Groundwork classifies all other moral principles as heteronomous, it is important to recognize that Kant incorporates elements of Wolff’s theory of self-legislation and Crusius’ theory of obligation into his theory of autonomy. In this essay, I present the relevant themes in Wolff and Crusius and discuss how they were taken up by Kant in the mid-1780s.

The modern state is often taken as the only legitimate claimant to the division of the globe. Political theorists offer many theories of territorial rights but tend to agree that the state remains the proper institutional bearer of such rights. This article examines how states became the exclusive bearers of territorial rights by returning to the international theory of the eighteenth-century Prussian jurist Christian Wolff (1679–1754), who wrote in a moment when sovereign states were not the heirs apparent to the globe but competed with other claimants to territorial rights. Despite proposing a radically pluralistic and anti-imperial account of land ownership, Wolff nonetheless paved the way for the state to become the sole bearer of territorial rights. Wolff's international thought is an illustration of how building a state-centric international order was a double-edged sword: it criticized imperial overreach while also closing the international arena to nonstate forms of collective life. In this process, he offered two distinct ideas of political space: the territorial space of states, and the land ownership tracts of nonstate peoples, including pastoralists and nomads. To Wolff, only states were entitled to full and permanent territorial rights, while nonstate peoples were shut out of the international system, made both de facto and de jure stateless. In this paper, we analyse conceptions of induction and certainty in Wolff and Crusius, highlighting their competing conceptions of physics. We discuss (i) the perspective of Wolff, who assigned induction an important role in physics, but argued that physics should be an axiomatic science containing certain statements, and (ii) the perspective of Crusius, who adopted parts of the ideal of axiomatic physics but criticized the scope of Wolff's ideal of certain science. Against interpretations that take Wolff's proofs in physics to be based on empirical statements that are probable, we show how inductively established statements, coupled with assumptions concerning the uniformity of nature, can be certain according to Wolff. We examine Crusius' little known work on physics and show that he attacked Wolff, arguing that many statements of physics are probable. We provide a discussion of the reception of methodological rules similar to Newton's Regulae Philosophandi, discussing different interpretations of such rules. We conclude by briefly hinting at how the debate between Wolff and Crusius provides historical context for understanding Kant's philosophy of natural science. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this work, we report an efficient approach to 2-oxoazetidine-3-carboxylic acid derivatives based on a thermally promoted Wolff rearrangement of diazotetramic acids in the presence of nucleophiles. The method allows easy variation of the substituent in the exocyclic acyl group by introducing different N-, O-, and S-nucleophilic reagents into the reaction. The reaction of chiral diazotetramic acids leads exclusively to trans-diastereomeric β-lactams. The use of variously substituted diazotetramic acids, including spirocyclic derivatives, as well as a wide range of nucleophiles provides access to a structural diversity of medically relevant 2-oxoazetidine-3-carboxylic acid amides and esters.

The non-invasive localization of accessory pathway (AP) in patients with Wolff-Parkinson-White (WPW) syndrome is typically performed upon physicians’ diagnoses based on observing their electrocardiogram (ECG) signals, which are not always the same. Therefore, a high-accuracy automatic method can help minimize this gap regarding AP localization. This study was to develop a novel semi-automatic localization of AP in patients with WPW syndrome, using features selected from the cross-recurrence plot (CRP) of consecutive precordial leads on ECG. The study participants comprised of 31 patients with WPW syndrome (aged 8-69, with the mean age of 31.19±14.69, 32.3% female), receiving successful ablation therapy during the first session. The features extracted from the CRP, including laminarity (LAM), trapping time (TT), determinism (DET), and mean length of diagonal line (L) were then analyzed. The feature reduction, The classification and the cross-validation (CV) methods were sequential forward selection (SFS), the k-nearest neighbors (KNN) and the leave-one-out (LOO) respectively. The proposed method could differentiate the right and left APs in the patients with WPW syndrome with the accuracy value of 87% (sensitivity: 93.33%, specificity: 81.25%). These results were achieved by the LAM and L features from the CRP of (V1, V2) and (V3, V4), respectively.

Wolff-Parkinson-White (WPW) syndrome is a rare cardiac condition arising from abnormal embryologic development of the annulus fibrosus in combination with the cardiac conduction system. The abnormality results in the development of accessory pathways and preexcitation changes which can provoke episodes of tachyarrhythmias. The most common presentation of WPW syndrome is supraventricular tachycardia. Beyond customary abortive therapy, chronic management strategies vary based upon timing and clinical severity of the initial disease presentation. Prompt diagnosis and rate control have a dramatic impact on the outcomes of morbidity and mortality. The purpose of this article is to present a case study of a preterm infant who manifested with WPW syndrome. Additionally, the article will explore the pathophysiology of WPW syndrome and the timing and presentation of common clinical manifestations of the disease, along with current diagnostic and treatment strategies to achieve optimal patient outcomes in the neonatal population. ABSTRACT Background Methods Results Conclusions Wolff‐Parkinson‐White (WPW) syndrome and fasciculoventricular pathway (FVP) present electrocardiographic manifestations characterized by delta waves, differentiating these two is challenging. Specifically, WPW type B with QRS width ≤120 ms, resembles typical FVP features. Because of the presence of repolarization abnormalities in WPW syndrome, our hypothesis centered on the potential utility of the QRS‐T angle for distinguishing WPW syndrome from FVP. To determine the discriminative value of the QRS‐T angle for delineating WPW syndrome from FVP.We included cases of WPW syndrome treated with catheter ablation and FVP diagnosed via adenosine triphosphate administration between 2007 and 2023. We excluded cases with WPW type A, QRS width >120 ms, intermittent WPW, congenital heart disease or myocardial damage, ablation history, tachycardia, palpitations within 3 months, and WPW syndrome featuring an accessory pathway on the left lateral wall. Eventually, we identified 40 and 54 patients from the WPW and FVP groups, respectively. The QRS‐T angle was compared between the WPW and FVP cohorts.The QRS‐T angle in the WPW group was significantly larger than in the FVP group (45.7 ± 46.3° vs. 17.8 ± 13.9°, p < 0.001). Receiver operating characteristic curve analysis with a sensitivity and specificity of 65.0% and 72.6%, respectively, demonstrated that the optimal cut‐off value for the QRS‐T angle was 22° for distinguishing WPW from FVP. Remarkably, all cases with a QRS‐T angle >65° were within the WPW group.The QRS‐T angle can offer promising utility in differentiating WPW syndrome from FVP. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This essay investigates the way in which Wolff takes an interest in the hypothesis of an emendatio of the prima philosophia from Leibniz’s incitement in De primae philosophiae emendatione, et de notione substantiae (1694) to re-found metaphysics. This makes it possible, secondly, to examine the way in which Wolff takes Johannes Clauberg’s ontology as a model, even though it represents in his view only a failed attempt at that same emendatio. Through the analysis of the texts, this article considers the possibility of a new reading of the ‘failure’ attributed by Wolff to Clauberg, which would consist in his having ‘emended’ first philosophy by expelling it from the domain of ontology and finally identifying it with Cartesian prima philosophia.

Herein, a visible-light-induced chiral N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC)-catalyzed asymmetric amination of ketenes has been developed. This strategy provides a convenient and facile synthetic protocol for the efficient construction of α-chiral amides under mild reaction conditions with moderate to excellent yields and stereoselectivities (up to 95% yields and 97 : 3 e.r.). Background: T‐wave memory (TWM) is a rare cause of T‐wave inversion (TWI). Alterations in ventricular activation due to abnormal depolarization may cause repolarization abnormalities on the ECG, even if myocardial conduction returns to normal. These repolarization changes are defined as TWM. In our study, we aimed to determine the frequency of TWM development and the predictors affecting it in the pediatric population who underwent accessory pathway (AP) ablation due to Wolff‐Parkinson‐White (WPW) syndrome. Methods: The data of patients with manifest AP who underwent electrophysiological studies and ablation between 2015 and 2021 were retrospectively analyzed. The study included 180 patients who were under 21 years of age and had at least one year of follow‐up after ablation. Patients with structural heart disease, intermittent WPWs, recurrent ablation, other arrhythmia substrates, and those with less than one‐year follow‐up were excluded from the study. The ECG data of the patients before the procedure, in the first 24 h after the procedure, three months, and in the first year were recorded. The standard ablation technique was used in all patients. Results: Postprocedure TWM was observed in 116 (64.4%) patients. Ninety‐three patients (51.7%) had a right‐sided AP, and 87 patients (48.3%) had a left‐sided AP. The presence of posteroseptal AP was found to be significantly higher in the group that developed TWM. Of these patients, 107 (93.1%) patients showed improvement at the end of the first year. Preprocedural absolute QRS‐T angle, postprocedural PR interval, and right posteroseptal pathway location were identified as predictors of TWM. Conclusion: The development of TWM is particularly associated with the right‐sided pathway location, especially the right posteroseptal pathway location. The predictors of TWM are the preprocedural QRS‐T angle, the postprocedural PR interval, and the presence of the right posteroseptal AP. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
