More than fifteen years after her death, this contribution commemorates one of the greatest art historians of Tuscan Renaissance painting, Lisa Venturini (1960-2005). Despite her short life, her bibliography consists of a large number of publications on both great and “minor” painters, whom she studied with intense archival research and exceptional stylistic analyses. The biographical profile that emerges in these pages owes much to many pleasant conversations with Lisa's family, friends and colleagues, who generously helped me to learn more about her story as a scholar and a person.

ABSTRACT The most widely used induction motors also have disadvantages such as fairly high losses, power factor correction, and low efficiency. From this disadvantages, we need an induction motor controller that has high performance and efficiency. One type of AC-AC converter that has efficiency, lifetime, compactness and power factor approach to unity that will be used as an induction motor controller is a matrix converter. The Venturini method is used as modulation in the matrix converter. For this reason, in this study, simulation was made using MATLAB simulink and hardware matrix converter. Matrix converter testing using venturini modulation as an induction motor controller has been done with the motor can be rotate reaching a nominal speed of 1440 Rpm according to nameplate and the motor can also rotate below the nominal frequency. It is expected that induction motor controller can be more efficient in their use in various fields. Keywords: Matrix converter, venturini method, induction motor

- Abstract
Autorica u radu istražuje scenografije akademskoga slikara Zdenka Venturinija u Hrvatskome narodnom kazalištu Zadar. Prema dostupnim fotografijama i kritikama iz tjednih novina rekonstruiraju se scenografije koje se dijeli na: neutralne, apstraktne, scenografije s arhitektonskim elementima i realistične., The author researches the scenographies of the academic painter Zdenko Venturini at the Croatian National Theatre in Zadar. He worked in the 1950s in the demolished Zadar and created productions that in no way lagged behind the scenographies of the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb. Namely, the EXAT 51 group played a significant role in creating Croatian scenography in the 50s of the last century. The author primarily investigates articles on the scenography that Venturini printed in magazines and exhibition catalogues. He advocated complete performances devoid of any details. According to the available photographs and reviews from weekly newspapers, the scenographies are reconstructed, divided into neutral, abstract, architectural elements, and realistic ones.

This article provides a hermeneutic study of the book of poetry La trova (1962), by the Argentinian writer Aurora Venturini (1921-2015). This is a significant book among her literary works, as it is a sign of the aesthetic turn that occurred in Venturini’s creative project during the sixties, which was evidenced in the passage from poetry to narrative. La trova presents a persona affected by the tensions and oppositions of different cultural features, whose identity is defined through the dialog with the medieval tradition.

Astrophysics - Earth and Planetary Astrophysics - Abstract
We present new observations from CHEOPS and TESS to clarify the architecture of the planetary system hosted by the old Galactic thick disk star TOI-561. Our global analysis, which also includes previously published photometric and radial velocity data, incontrovertibly proves that TOI-561 is hosting at least four transiting planets with periods of 0.44 days (TOI-561 b), 10.8 days (TOI-561 c), 25.7 days (TOI-561 d), and 77.1 days (TOI-561 e) and a fifth non-transiting candidate, TOI-561f with a period of 433 days. The precise characterisation of TOI-561's orbital architecture is interesting since old and metal-poor thick disk stars are less likely to host ultra-short period Super-Earths like TOI-561 b. The new period of planet -e is consistent with the value obtained using radial velocity alone and is now known to be $77.14399\pm0.00025$ days, thanks to the new CHEOPS and TESS transits. The new data allowed us to improve its radius ($R_p = 2.517 \pm 0.045 R_{\oplus}$ from 5$\%$ to 2$\%$ precision) and mass ($M_p = 12.4 \pm 1.4 M_{\oplus}$) estimates, implying a density of $\rho_p = 0.778 \pm 0.097 \rho_{\oplus}$. Thanks to recent TESS observations and the focused CHEOPS visit of the transit of TOI-561 e, a good candidate for exomoon searches, the planet's period is finally constrained, allowing us to predict transit times through 2030 with 20-minute accuracy. We present an updated version of the internal structure of the four transiting planets. We finally performed a detailed stability analysis, which confirmed the long-term stability of the outer planet TOI-561 f., Comment: 13 pages, 10 Figures. Accepted on MNRAS. Updated the author list

Computer Science - Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition - Abstract
Current large open vision models could be useful for one and few-shot object recognition. Nevertheless, gradient-based re-training solutions are costly. On the other hand, open-vocabulary object detection models bring closer visual and textual concepts in the same latent space, allowing zero-shot detection via prompting at small computational cost. We propose a lightweight method to turn the latter into a one-shot or few-shot object recognition models without requiring textual descriptions. Our experiments on the TEgO dataset using the YOLO-World model as a base show that performance increases with the model size, the number of examples and the use of image augmentation.

Computer Science - Digital Libraries ,Physics - Physics and Society - Abstract
While much has been written about the problem of information overload in news and social media, little attention has been paid to its consequence in science. Scientific literature, however, has witnessed decades of exponential growth, to the point that the publications of the last twenty years now constitute 60% of all academic literature. This information overload is not without consequence. Our analysis reveals that, unlike other cultural products, scientific publications face unique challenges: the decreasing proportion of papers capturing large shares of researchers' attention and the slow turnover of influential papers lead to a disproportionate prominence of established works, resulting in stagnation and aging of scientific canons. To determine whether scientific hypergrowth is responsible for such ``gerontocratization of science'', we propose a generative model of paper citations based on random discovery and cumulative advantage, with a varying number of new papers each year. Our findings show that, as exponential growth intensifies, gerontocratization appears and becomes increasingly pronounced. Recognizing and understanding this mechanism is hence essential for developing targeted strategies to counteract this trend and promote a balanced and healthy renewal of scientific canons., Comment: 19 pages, 7 figures

Astrophysics - Earth and Planetary Astrophysics - Abstract
Hot Jupiters are giant planets subject to intense stellar radiation. The physical and chemical properties of their atmosphere makes them the most amenable targets for the atmospheric characterization. In this paper we analyze the photometry collected during the secondary eclipses of the hot Jupiter WASP-3 b by CHEOPS, TESS and Spitzer. Our aim is to characterize the atmosphere of the planet by measuring the secondary eclipse depth in several passbands and constrain the planetary dayside spectrum. Our update of the stellar and planetary properties is consistent with previous works. The analysis of the occultations returns an eclipse depth of 92+-21 ppm in the CHEOPS passband, 83+-27 ppm for TESS and >2000 ppm in the IRAC 1-2-4 Spitzer passbands. Using the eclipse depths in the Spitzer bands we propose a set of likely emission spectra which constrain the emission contribution in the \cheops and TESS passbands to approximately a few dozens of parts per million. This allowed us to measure a geometric albedo of 0.21+-0.07 in the CHEOPS passband, while the TESS data lead to a 95\% upper limit of $\sim$0.2. WASP-3 b belongs to the group of ultra-hot Jupiters which are characterized by low Bond albedo (<0.3+-0.1), as predicted by different atmospheric models. On the other hand, it unexpectedly seems to efficiently recirculate the absorbed stellar energy, unlike similar highly irradiated planets. To explain this inconsistency, we propose that other energy recirculation mechanisms may be at play other than advection (for example, dissociation and recombination of H_2). Another possibility is that the observations in different bandpasses probe different atmospheric layers, making the atmospheric analysis difficult without an appropriate modeling of the thermal emission spectrum of WASP-3 b, which is not feasible with the limited spectroscopic data available to date.

Astrophysics - Earth and Planetary Astrophysics ,Astrophysics - Solar and Stellar Astrophysics - Abstract
K2-24 is a planetary system composed of two transiting low-density Neptunians locked in an almost perfect 2:1 resonance and showing large TTVs, i.e., an excellent laboratory to search for signatures of planetary migration. Previous studies performed with K2, Spitzer and RV data tentatively claimed a significant non-zero eccentricity for one or both planets, possibly high enough to challenge the scenario of pure disk migration through resonant capture. With 13 new CHEOPS light curves (seven of planet -b, six of planet -c), we carried out a global photometric and dynamical re-analysis by including all the available literature data as well. We got the most accurate set of planetary parameters to date for the K2-24 system, including radii and masses at 1% and 5% precision (now essentially limited by the uncertainty on stellar parameters) and non-zero eccentricities $e_b=0.0498_{-0.0018}^{+0.0011}$, $e_c=0.0282_{-0.0007}^{+0.0003}$ detected at very high significance for both planets. Such relatively large values imply the need for an additional physical mechanism of eccentricity excitation during or after the migration stage. Also, while the accuracy of the previous TTV model had drifted by up to 0.5 days at the current time, we constrained the orbital solution firmly enough to predict the forthcoming transits for the next ~15 years, thus enabling an efficient follow-up with top-level facilities such as JWST or ESPRESSO., Comment: 19 pages, 11 figures, 8 tables.

This paper analyse the Brazilian motivation to act as a mediator in one of the most difficult moments in Suriname’s history, in 1982: the crisis that succeeded the killing of opponents of Desiré Bouterse’s government, who advocated for a new path for the Surinamese foreign policy, including a convergence of positions with Cuba. The Brazilian intervention, known as “Missão Venturini”, sent in 1983 to Panamaribo, intended to avoid such Surinamese movement towards Cuba, and the potential American intervention that would follow such movement, as the Ronald Reagan government was intensely anti-communist. Our paper is based in declassified documents, disponible at CPDOC/FGV, and use the Prospect Theory in order to achieve our goal. We point to the Brazilian Foreign Policy Executive’s risk-averse orientation. When facing the prospect of a “socialist” Suriname and the losses that an American intervention in South America would cause to Brazil, a cooperation offer seeking to contain Bouterse’s actions and to avoid a Surinamese policy shift to the left seemed a less risky alternative.

Computer Science - Machine Learning - Abstract
Current artificial neural networks are trained with parameters encoded as floating point numbers that occupy lots of memory space at inference time. Due to the increase in the size of deep learning models, it is becoming very difficult to consider training and using artificial neural networks on edge devices. Binary neural networks promise to reduce the size of deep neural network models, as well as to increase inference speed while decreasing energy consumption. Thus, they may allow the deployment of more powerful models on edge devices. However, binary neural networks are still proven to be difficult to train using the backpropagation-based gradient descent scheme. This paper extends the work of \cite{crulis2023alternatives}, which proposed adapting to binary neural networks two promising alternatives to backpropagation originally designed for continuous neural networks, and experimented with them on simple image classification datasets. This paper proposes new experiments on the ImageNette dataset, compares three different model architectures for image classification, and adds two additional alternatives to backpropagation.

Computer Science - Information Retrieval - Abstract
Learned sparse representations form an effective and interpretable class of embeddings for text retrieval. While exact top-k retrieval over such embeddings faces efficiency challenges, a recent algorithm called Seismic has enabled remarkably fast, highly-accurate approximate retrieval. Seismic statically prunes inverted lists, organizes each list into geometrically-cohesive blocks, and augments each block with a summary vector. At query time, each inverted list associated with a query term is traversed one block at a time in an arbitrary order, with the inner product between the query and summaries determining if a block must be evaluated. When a block is deemed promising, its documents are fully evaluated with a forward index. Seismic is one to two orders of magnitude faster than state-of-the-art inverted index-based solutions and significantly outperforms the winning graph-based submissions to the BigANN 2023 Challenge. In this work, we speed up Seismic further by introducing two innovations to its query processing subroutine. First, we traverse blocks in order of importance, rather than arbitrarily. Second, we take the list of documents retrieved by Seismic and expand it to include the neighbors of each document using an offline k-regular nearest neighbor graph; the expanded list is then ranked to produce the final top-k set. Experiments on two public datasets show that our extension, named SeismicWave, can reach almost-exact accuracy levels and is up to 2.2x faster than Seismic.

Astrophysics - Earth and Planetary Astrophysics - Abstract
We report the spectroscopic confirmation and fundamental properties of TOI-757 b, a mini-Neptune on a 17.5-day orbit transiting a bright star ($V = 9.7$ mag) discovered by the TESS mission. We acquired high-precision radial velocity measurements with the HARPS, ESPRESSO, and PFS spectrographs to confirm the planet detection and determine its mass. We also acquired space-borne transit photometry with the CHEOPS space telescope to place stronger constraints on the planet radius, supported with ground-based LCOGT photometry. WASP and KELT photometry were used to help constrain the stellar rotation period. We also determined the fundamental parameters of the host star. We find that TOI-757 b has a radius of $R_{\mathrm{p}} = 2.5 \pm 0.1 R_{\oplus}$ and a mass of $M_{\mathrm{p}} = 10.5^{+2.2}_{-2.1} M_{\oplus}$, implying a bulk density of $\rho_{\text{p}} = 3.6 \pm 0.8$ g cm$^{-3}$. Our internal composition modeling was unable to constrain the composition of TOI-757 b, highlighting the importance of atmospheric observations for the system. We also find the planet to be highly eccentric with $e$ = 0.39$^{+0.08}_{-0.07}$, making it one of the very few highly eccentric planets among precisely characterized mini-Neptunes. Based on comparisons to other similar eccentric systems, we find a likely scenario for TOI-757 b's formation to be high eccentricity migration due to a distant outer companion. We additionally propose the possibility of a more intrinsic explanation for the high eccentricity due to star-star interactions during the earlier epoch of the Galactic disk formation, given the low metallicity and older age of TOI-757., Comment: Accepted for publication in MNRAS; 26 pages, 14 figures, 6 tables

Among the thousands of exoplanets discovered to date, approximately a few hundred gas giants on short-period orbits are classified as "lonely" and only a few are in a multi-planet system with a smaller companion on a close orbit. The processes that formed multi-planet systems hosting gas giants on close orbits are poorly understood, and only a few examples of this kind of system have been observed and well characterised. Within the contest of multi-planet system hosting gas-giant on short orbits, we characterise TOI-1130 system by measuring masses and orbital parameters. This is a 2-transiting planet system with a Jupiter-like planet (c) on a 8.35 days orbit and a Neptune-like planet (b) on an inner (4.07 days) orbit. Both planets show strong anti-correlated transit timing variations (TTVs). Furthermore, radial velocity (RV) analysis showed an additional linear trend, a possible hint of a non-transiting candidate planet on a far outer orbit. Since 2019, extensive transit and radial velocity observations of the TOI-1130 have been acquired using TESS and various ground-based facilities. We present a new photo-dynamical analysis of all available transit and RV data, with the addition of new CHEOPS and ASTEP+ data that achieve the best precision to date on the planetary radii and masses and on the timings of each transit. We were able to model interior structure of planet b constraining the presence of a gaseous envelope of H/He, while it was not possible to assess the possible water content. Furthermore, we analysed the resonant state of the two transiting planets, and we found that they lie just outside the resonant region. This could be the result of the tidal evolution that the system underwent. We obtained both masses of the planets with a precision less than 1.5%, and radii with a precision of about 1% and 3% for planet b and c, respectively., Comment: 22 pages, 10 figures, Accepted for publication by Astronomy and Astrophysics

1T-TiSe$_2$ hosts a $2 \times 2 \times 2$ charge density wave (CDW) that is known to form the state with localized domains separated by the domain walls upon Cu intercalation. The CDW state with the domain wall network has attracted significant interest due to its coexistence with superconductivity. Here we present a scanning tunneling microscopy, transport and magnetic susceptibility study of 1T-Ti$_{1-\text{x}}$Ta$_\text{x}$Se$_2$. Ta substitution for Ti atoms allows us to perform experiments over the wide range of doping ($ 0 \leqslant \text{x} \leqslant 0.2$), providing access to a significantly broader phase diagram than Cu intercalation experiments. At x = 0.02, we observe a complex network of domains and domain walls. We identify two distinct types of domain walls and show their structure with atomic resolution. Additionally, an elusive symmetry-breaking stripe CDW is found at the light substitution of x = 0.02. We also measure highly substituted x = 0.2 crystals that are superconducting despite the full collapse of the CDW order. Our results uncover rich CDW physics in Ta-substituted 1T-TiSe2 crystals and illuminate the interplay between the CDW and superconductivity., Comment: 10 pages, 4 figures

Astrophysics - Earth and Planetary Astrophysics - Abstract
Multiplanetary systems spanning the radius valley are ideal testing grounds for exploring the proposed explanations for the observed bimodality in the radius distribution of close-in exoplanets. One such system is HIP 29442 (TOI-469), an evolved K0V star hosting two super-Earths and a sub-Neptune. We observe HIP 29442 with CHEOPS for a total of 9.6 days, which we model jointly with 2 sectors of TESS data to derive planetary radii of $3.410\pm0.046$, $1.551\pm0.045$ and $1.538\pm0.049$ R$_\oplus$ for planets b, c and d, which orbit HIP 29442 with periods of 13.6, 3.5 and 6.4 days. For planet d, this value deviates by more than 3 sigma from the median value reported in the discovery paper, leading us to conclude that caution is required when using TESS photometry to determine the radii of small planets with low per-transit S/N and large gaps between observations. Given the high precision of these new radii, combining them with published RVs from ESPRESSO and HIRES provides us with ideal conditions to investigate the internal structure and formation pathways of the planets in the system. We introduce the publicly available code plaNETic, a fast and robust neural network-based Bayesian internal structure modelling framework. We then apply hydrodynamic models to explore the upper atmospheric properties of these inferred structures. Finally, we identify planetary system analogues in a synthetic population generated with the Bern model for planet formation and evolution. Based on this analysis, we find that the planets likely formed on opposing sides of the water iceline from a protoplanetary disk with an intermediate solid mass. We finally report that the observed parameters of the HIP 29442 system are compatible with both a scenario where the second peak in the bimodal radius distribution corresponds to sub-Neptunes with a pure H/He envelope as well as a scenario with water-rich sub-Neptunes., Comment: 30 pages, 17 figures, accepted for publication in A&A

Fluorescence spectroscopy is a fundamental tool in life sciences and chemistry, widely used for applications such as environmental monitoring, food quality control, and biomedical diagnostics. However, analysis of spectroscopic data with deep learning, in particular of fluorescence excitation-emission matrices (EEMs), presents significant challenges due to the typically small and sparse datasets available. Furthermore, the analysis of EEMs is difficult due to their high dimensionality and overlapping spectral features. This study proposes a new approach that exploits domain adaptation with pretrained vision models, alongside a novel interpretability algorithm to address these challenges. Thanks to specialised feature engineering of the neural networks described in this work, we are now able to provide deeper insights into the physico-chemical processes underlying the data. The proposed approach is demonstrated through the analysis of the oxidation process in extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) during ageing, showing its effectiveness in predicting quality indicators and identifying the spectral bands, and thus the molecules involved in the process. This work describes a significantly innovative approach in the use of deep learning for spectroscopy, transforming it from a black box into a tool for understanding complex biological and chemical processes.

PLATO (PLAnetary Transits and Oscillations of stars) is ESA's M3 mission designed to detect and characterise extrasolar planets and perform asteroseismic monitoring of a large number of stars. PLATO will detect small planets (down to <2 R_(Earth)) around bright stars (<11 mag), including terrestrial planets in the habitable zone of solar-like stars. With the complement of radial velocity observations from the ground, planets will be characterised for their radius, mass, and age with high accuracy (5 %, 10 %, 10 % for an Earth-Sun combination respectively). PLATO will provide us with a large-scale catalogue of well-characterised small planets up to intermediate orbital periods, relevant for a meaningful comparison to planet formation theories and to better understand planet evolution. It will make possible comparative exoplanetology to place our Solar System planets in a broader context. In parallel, PLATO will study (host) stars using asteroseismology, allowing us to determine the stellar properties with high accuracy, substantially enhancing our knowledge of stellar structure and evolution. The payload instrument consists of 26 cameras with 12cm aperture each. For at least four years, the mission will perform high-precision photometric measurements. Here we review the science objectives, present PLATO's target samples and fields, provide an overview of expected core science performance as well as a description of the instrument and the mission profile at the beginning of the serial production of the flight cameras. PLATO is scheduled for a launch date end 2026. This overview therefore provides a summary of the mission to the community in preparation of the upcoming operational phases.
