The aim of this study is to identify quiescent galaxies in the 2-deg$^2$ COSMOS field at $z \sim 3.1$ and analyze their environment. Using data from the ODIN survey and COSMOS2020 catalog, we identify 24 massive quiescent galaxies (MQGs) with stellar masses $\geq 10^{10.6}$ and derive their star formation histories and quenching timescales using SED fitting with BAGPIPES. Voronoi-based density maps trace local and large-scale environments using Lyman-$\alpha$ Emitters and photometric galaxies. Results indicate uniformly short quenching timescales ($<$500 Myr) independent of environmental density, suggesting rapid internal mechanisms such as AGN feedback dominate over environmental factors. MQGs do not correlate with protoclusters or filaments, although some are near gas-rich filaments but show no rejuvenation. These findings suggest quenching at high redshift is driven primarily by internal processes rather than environmental interactions.

Superfast rotators (SFRs) are small solar system objects that rotate faster than generally possible for a cohesionless rubble pile. Their rotational characteristics allow us to make inferences about their interior structure and composition. Here, we present the methods and results from a preliminary search for SFRs in the DECam Ecliptic Exploration Project (DEEP) data set. We find three SFRs from a sample of 686 main-belt asteroids, implying an occurrence rate of 0.4 -0.3/+0.1 percent - a higher incidence rate than has been measured by previous studies. We suggest that this high occurrence rate is due to the small sub-kilometer size regime to which DEEP has access: the objects searched here were as small as 500 m. We compute the minimum required cohesive strength for each of these SFRs and discuss the implications of these strengths in the context of likely evolution mechanisms. We find that all three of these SFRs require strengths that are more than that of weak regolith but consistent with many cohesive asteroid strengths reported in the literature. Across the full DEEP data set, we have identified ~70,000 Main-Belt Asteroids and expect ~300 SFRs - a result that will be assessed in a future paper.

We have used the Dark Energy Camera (DECam) on the CTIO Blanco 4-m telescope to perform a new emission-line survey of the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC) using narrow-band H-alpha and [SII] filters in addition to a continuum band for use in creating pure emission-line images. We refer to this new survey as DeMCELS, to distinguish it from the earlier Magellanic Cloud Emission Line Survey (MCELS) that has been in service for nearly 25 years. DeMCELS covers $\sim 54$ degrees$^{2}$, encompassing most of the bright optical disk of the LMC. With DECam's pixel size of only 0.27", our DeMCELS survey provides a seeing-limited improvement of 3-5 times over MCELS and is comparable in depth, with surface brightness limits of 3.3E-17 erg cm$^{-2}$ s$^{-1}$ arcsec$^{-2}$ in H-alpha and 2.9E-17 erg cm$^{-2}$ s$^{-1}$ arcsec$^{-2}$ in H-alpha and [SII], respectively. DeMCELS provides detailed morphological information on nebulae of all scales, from the largest supershells to individual [HII] regions and supernova remnants, to bubbles of emission surrounding individual stars, and even to faint structures in the diffuse ionized gas of the LMC. Many complex regions of emission show significant variations in the ratio of [SII] to H-alpha, a sign of the mixture of shocks from stellar winds and/or supernovae with photoionization by embedded hot, young stars. We present the details of the observing strategy and data processing for this survey, and show selected results in comparison with previous data. We carried out long-term monitoring of the LIGO/Virgo/KAGRA binary black hole (BBH) merger candidate S230922g in search of electromagnetic emission from the interaction of the merger remnant with an embedding active galactic nuclei (AGN) accretion disk. Using a dataset primarily composed of wide-field imaging from the Dark Energy Camera (DECam) and supplemented by additional photometric and spectroscopic resources, we searched ~ 70% of the sky area probability for transient phenomena, and discovered 6 counterpart candidates. One especially promising candidate - AT 2023aagj - exhibited temporally varying asymmetric components in spectral broad line regions, a feature potentially indicative of an off-center event such as a BBH merger. This represents the first live search and multiwavelength, photometric, and spectroscopic monitoring of a GW BBH optical counterpart candidate in the disk of an AGN., Comment: 25 pages, 9 figures. To understand the formation and evolution of massive cosmic structures, studying them at high redshift, in the epoch when they formed the majority of their mass is essential. The One-hundred-deg$^2$ DECam Imaging in Narrowbands (ODIN) survey is undertaking the widest-area narrowband program to date, to use Ly$\alpha$-emitting galaxies (LAEs) to trace the large-scale structure (LSS) of the Universe on the scale of 10 - 100 cMpc at three cosmic epochs. In this work, we present results at $z$ = 3.1 based on early ODIN data in the COSMOS field. We identify and characterize protoclusters and cosmic filaments using multiple methods and discuss their strengths and weaknesses. We then compare our observations against the IllustrisTNG suite of cosmological hydrodynamical simulations. The two are in excellent agreement, with a similar number and angular size of structures identified above a specified density threshold. We are able to recover the simulated protoclusters with $\log$(M$_{z=0}$/$M_\odot$) $\gtrsim$ 14.4 in $\sim$ 60% of the cases. With these objects we show that the descendant masses of the protoclusters in our sample can be estimated purely based on our 2D measurements, finding a median $z$ = 0 mass of $\sim10^{14.5}$M$_\odot$. The lack of information on the radial extent of each protocluster introduces a $\sim$0.4 dex uncertainty in its descendant mass. Finally, we show that the recovery of the cosmic web in the vicinity of protoclusters is both efficient and accurate. The similarity of our observations and the simulations imply that our structure selection is likewise robust and efficient, demonstrating that LAEs are reliable tracers of the LSS., Comment: 29 pages, 20 figures; Accepted for publication in ApJ

Lyman-Alpha Emitting galaxies (LAEs) are typically young, low-mass, star-forming galaxies with little extinction from interstellar dust. Their low dust attenuation allows their Ly$\alpha$ emission to shine brightly in spectroscopic and photometric observations, providing an observational window into the high-redshift universe. Narrowband surveys reveal large, uniform samples of LAEs at specific redshifts that probe large scale structure and the temporal evolution of galaxy properties. The One-hundred-deg$^2$ DECam Imaging in Narrowbands (ODIN) utilizes three custom-made narrowband filters on the Dark Energy Camera (DECam) to discover LAEs at three equally spaced periods in cosmological history. In this paper, we introduce the hybrid-weighted double-broadband continuum estimation technique, which yields improved estimation of Ly$\alpha$ equivalent widths. Using this method, we discover 6032, 5691, and 4066 LAE candidates at $z =$ 2.4, 3.1, and 4.5 in the extended COSMOS field ($\sim$9 deg$^2$). We find that [O II] emitters are a minimal contaminant in our LAE samples, but that interloping Green Pea-like [O III] emitters are important for our redshift 4.5 sample. We introduce an innovative method for identifying [O II] and [O III] emitters via a combination of narrowband excess and galaxy colors, enabling their study as separate classes of objects. We present scaled median stacked SEDs for each galaxy sample, revealing the overall success of our selection methods. We also calculate rest-frame Ly$\alpha$ equivalent widths for our LAE samples and find that the EW distributions are best fit by exponential functions with scale lengths of $w_0$ = 53 $\pm$ 1, 65 $\pm$ 1, and 59 $\pm$ 1 Angstroms, respectively., Comment: Accepted to ApJ, 24 pages, 14 figures

We describe the survey design and science goals for ODIN (One-hundred-deg^2 DECam Imaging in Narrowbands), a NOIRLab survey using the Dark Energy Camera (DECam) to obtain deep (AB~25.7) narrow-band images over an unprecedented area of sky. The three custom-built narrow-band filters, N419, N501, and N673, have central wavelengths of 419, 501, and 673 nm and respective full-widthat-half-maxima of 7.2, 7.4, and 9.8 nm, corresponding to Lya at z=2.4, 3.1, and 4.5 and cosmic times of 2.8, 2.1, and 1.4 Gyr, respectively. When combined with even deeper, public broad-band data from Hyper Suprime-Cam, DECam, and in the future, LSST, the ODIN narrow-band images will enable the selection of over 100,000 Lya-emitting (LAE) galaxies at these epochs. ODIN-selected LAEs will identify protoclusters as galaxy overdensities, and the deep narrow-band images enable detection of highly extended Lya blobs (LABs). Primary science goals include measuring the clustering strength and dark matter halo connection of LAEs, LABs, and protoclusters, and their respective relationship to filaments in the cosmic web. The three epochs allow the redshift evolution of these properties to be determined during the period known as Cosmic Noon, where star formation was at its peak. The two narrow-band filter wavelengths are designed to enable interloper rejection and further scientific studies by revealing [O II] and [O III] at z=0.34, Lya and He II 1640 at z=3.1, and Lyman continuum plus Lya at z=4.5. We present the 2020 version of the Siena Galaxy Atlas (SGA-2020), a multi-wavelength optical and infrared imaging atlas of 383,620 nearby galaxies. The SGA-2020 uses optical $grz$ imaging over $\approx20,000$ deg$^{2}$ from the DESI Legacy Imaging Surveys Data Release 9 and infrared imaging in four bands (spanning 3.4-22 $\mu$m) from the six-year unWISE coadds; it is more than 95% complete for galaxies larger than $R(26)\approx25$ arcsec and $r<18$ measured at the 26 mag arcsec$^{-2}$ isophote in the $r$-band. The atlas delivers precise coordinates, multi-wavelength mosaics, azimuthally averaged optical surface brightness profiles, model images and photometry, and additional ancillary metadata for the full sample. Coupled with existing and forthcoming optical spectroscopy from the Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI), the SGA-2020 will facilitate new detailed studies of the star formation and mass assembly histories of nearby galaxies; enable precise measurements of the local velocity field via the Tully-Fisher and Fundamental Plane relations; serve as a reference sample of lasting legacy value for time-domain and multi-messenger astronomical events; and more., Comment: 47 pages, 13 figures, 5 tables; submitted to ApJS. While many Lyman-alpha Blobs (LABs) are found in and around several well-known protoclusters at high redshift, how they trace the underlying large-scale structure is still poorly understood. In this work, we utilize 5,352 Lyman-alpha emitters (LAEs) and 129 LABs at z=3.1 identified over a $\sim$ 9.5 sq. degree area in early data from the ongoing One-hundred-deg$^2$ DECam Imaging in Narrowbands (ODIN) survey to investigate this question. Using LAEs as tracers of the underlying matter distribution, we identify overdense structures as galaxy groups, protoclusters, and filaments of the cosmic web. We find that LABs preferentially reside in regions of higher-than-average density and are located in closer proximity to overdense structures, which represent the sites of protoclusters and their substructures. Moreover, protoclusters hosting one or more LABs tend to have a higher descendant mass than those which do not. Blobs are also strongly associated with filaments of the cosmic web, with $\sim$ 70% of the population being within a projected distance of 2.4 pMpc from a filament. We show that the proximity of LABs to protoclusters is naturally explained by their association with filaments as large cosmic structures are where many filaments converge. The contiguous wide-field coverage of the ODIN survey allows us for the first time to firmly establish a connection between LABs as a population and their environment., Comment: 25 pages, 17 figures; accepted for publication in ApJ

We report spectroscopic confirmations of 15 Lyman-alpha galaxies at $z\sim7$, implying a spectroscopic confirmation rate of $\sim$80% on candidates selected from LAGER (Lyman-Alpha Galaxies in the Epoch of Reionization), which is the largest (24 deg$^2$) survey aimed at finding Lyman-alpha emitters (LAEs) at $z\sim7$ using deep narrow-band imaging from DECam at CTIO. LAEs at high-redshifts are sensitive probes of cosmic reionization and narrow-band imaging is a robust and effective method for selecting a large number of LAEs. In this work, we present results from the spectroscopic follow-up of LAE candidates in two LAGER fields, COSMOS and WIDE-12, using observations from Keck/LRIS. We report the successful detection of Ly$\alpha$ emission in 15 candidates (11 in COSMOS and 4 in WIDE-12 fields). Three of these in COSMOS have matching confirmations from a previous LAGER spectroscopic follow-up and are part of the overdense region, LAGER-$z7$OD1. Additionally, two candidates that were not detected in the LRIS observations have prior spectroscopic confirmations from Magellan. Including these, we obtain a spectroscopic confirmation success rate of $\sim$$80$% for LAGER LAE candidates. Apart from Ly$\alpha$, we do not detect any other UV nebular lines in our LRIS spectra; however, we estimate a 2$\sigma$ upper limit for the ratio of NV/Ly$\alpha$, $f_{NV}/f_{Ly\alpha} \lesssim 0.27$, which implies that ionizing emission from these sources is mostly dominated by star formation. Including confirmations from this work, a total of 33 LAE sources from LAGER are now spectroscopically confirmed. We present a new measurement of the Ly$\alpha$ luminosity function at redshift $z=6.9$, finding moderate evolution from $z=5.7$ that is consistent with a fully or largely ionized $z\sim7$ intergalactic medium. Our result is based on four fields of the LAGER (Lyman Alpha Galaxies in the Epoch of Reionization) project. Our survey volume of $6.1\times10^{6}$ Mpc$^{3}$ is double that of the next largest $z\sim 7$ survey. We combine two new LAGER fields (WIDE12 and GAMA15A) with two previously reported LAGER fields (COSMOS and CDFS). In the new fields, we identify $N=95$ new $z=6.9$ Ly$\alpha$ emitters (LAEs); characterize our survey's completeness and reliability; and compute Ly$\alpha$ luminosity functions. The best-fit Schechter luminosity function parameters for all four LAGER fields are in good general agreement. Two fields (COSMOS and WIDE12) show evidence for a bright-end excess above the Schechter function fit. We find that the Ly$\alpha$ luminosity density declines at the same rate as the UV continuum LF from $z=5.7$ to $z=6.9$. This is consistent with an intergalactic medium that was fully ionized as early as redshift $z\sim 7$, or with a volume-averaged neutral hydrogen fraction of $x_{HI} < 0.33$ at $1\sigma$., Comment: 19 pages, 11 figures; accepted by ApJ

The H$\alpha$ equivalent width (EW) is an observational proxy for specific star formation rate (sSFR) and a tracer of episodic star-formation activity. Previous assessments show that EW strongly anti-correlates with stellar mass as $M^{-0.25}$ similar to the sSFR -- stellar mass relation. However, such a correlation may be driven/formed by selection effects. In this study, we investigate how H$\alpha$ EWs correlate with galaxy properties and how selection biases could alter such correlations using a $z = 0.47$ narrowband-selected sample of 1572 H$\alpha$ emitters from the Ly$\alpha$ Galaxies in the Epoch of Reionization (LAGER) survey. The sample covers 3 deg$^2$ of COSMOS and $1.1\times10^5$ cMpc$^3$. We assume an intrinsic EW distribution to form mock samples of H$\alpha$ emitters (HAEs) and propagate the selection criteria to match observations, giving us control on how selection biases can affect the underlying results. We find EW intrinsically correlates with stellar mass as $W_0 \propto M^{-0.16\pm0.03}$ and decreases by a factor of $\sim 3$ from $10^{7}$ to $10^{10}$ M$_\odot$. We find low-mass HAEs to be $\sim 320$ times more likely to have rest-frame EW$ > 200$\AA compared to high-mass HAEs. Combining the intrinsic EW -- stellar mass correlation with an observed SMF correctly reproduces the observed H$\alpha$ LF, while not correcting for selection effects underestimates the number of bright HAEs. This suggests that the intrinsic EW -- stellar mass correlation is physically significant and reproduces three statistical distributions of galaxy populations (LF, SMF, EW distribution). At lower masses, we find there are more high-EW outliers compared to high masses, even after taking into account selection effects. Our results suggest that high sSFR outliers indicative of bursty SF activity are intrinsically more prevalent in low-mass HAEs and not a byproduct of selection effects., Comment: 21 Pages, 13 Figures, 2 Tables, accepted to MNRAS

Protoclusters, the progenitors of the most massive structures in the Universe, have been identified at redshifts of up to 6.6. Besides exploring early structure formation, searching for protoclusters at even higher redshifts is particularly useful to probe the reionization. Here we report the discovery of the protocluster LAGER-z7OD1 at a redshift of 6.93, when the Universe was only 770 million years old and could be experiencing rapid evolution of the neutral hydrogen fraction in the intergalactic medium. The protocluster is identified by an overdensity of 6 times the average galaxy density, and with 21 narrowband selected Lyman-$\alpha$ galaxies, among which 16 have been spectroscopically confirmed. At redshifts similar to or above this record, smaller protogroups with fewer members have been reported. LAGER-z7OD1 shows an elongated shape and consists of two subprotoclusters, which would have merged into one massive cluster with a present-day mass of $3.7 \times 10^{15}$ solar masses. The total volume of the ionized bubbles generated by its member galaxies is found to be comparable to the volume of the protocluster itself, indicating that we are witnessing the merging of the individual bubbles and that the intergalactic medium within the protocluster is almost fully ionized. The Legacy Surveys, a combination of three ground-based imaging surveys, have mapped 16,000 deg$^2$ in three optical bands ($g$, $r$, and $z$) to a depth 1--$2$~mag deeper than the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS). Our work addresses one of the major challenges of wide-field imaging surveys conducted at ground-based observatories: the varying depth that results from varying observing conditions at Earth-bound sites. To mitigate these effects, two of the Legacy Surveys (the Dark Energy Camera Legacy Survey, or DECaLS; and the Mayall $z$-band Legacy Survey, or MzLS) employed a unique strategy to dynamically adjust the exposure times as rapidly as possible in response to the changing observing conditions. We present the tiling and observing strategies used by these surveys. We demonstrate that the tiling and dynamic observing strategies jointly result in a more uniform-depth survey that has higher efficiency for a given total observing time compared with the traditional approach of using fixed exposure times., Comment: v1: 14 pages, 3 tables and 5 figures; v2: 15 pages, 3 tables and 6 figures. We present our measurements of the H$\alpha$, [OIII], and [OII] luminosity functions as part of the Lyman Alpha Galaxies at Epoch of Reionization (LAGER) survey using our samples of 1577 $z = 0.47$ H$\alpha$-, 3933 $z = 0.93$ [OIII]-, and 5367 $z = 1.59$ [OII]-selected emission line galaxies in a single 3 deg$^2$ CTIO/Blanco DECam pointing of the COSMOS field. Our observations reach 5$\sigma$ depths of $8.2\times10^{-18}$ erg s$^{-1}$ cm$^{-2}$ and comoving volumes of $(1-7)\times10^{5}$ Mpc$^3$ making our survey one of the deepest narrowband surveys. We measure the observed luminosity functions and find best-fits of $\phi^\star = 10^{-3.16\pm0.09}$ Mpc$^{-3}$ and $L^\star = 10^{41.72\pm0.09}$ erg s$^{-1}$ for H$\alpha$, $\phi^\star = 10^{-2.16^{+0.10}_{-0.12}}$ Mpc$^{-3}$ and $L^\star = 10^{41.38^{+0.07}_{-0.06}}$ erg s$^{-1}$ for [OIII], and $\phi^\star = 10^{-1.97^{+0.07}_{-0.07}}$ Mpc$^{-3}$ and $L^\star = 10^{41.66\pm0.03}$ erg s$^{-1}$ for [OII], with $\alpha$ fixed to $-1.75$, $-1.6$, and $-1.3$, respectively. An excess of bright $> 10^{42}$ erg s$^{-1}$ [OIII] emitters is observed and may be due to AGN contamination. Dust corrections are applied assuming $A_{\rm{H}\alpha} = 1$ mag. We also design our own empirical rest-frame $g - r$ calibration using SDSS DR12 data, test it against our $z = 0.47$ H$\alpha$ emitters with $z$COSMOS $1$D spectra, and calibrate it for $(g - r)$ between $-0.8$ and $1.3$ mag. Dust and AGN-corrected star formation rate densities (SFRDs) are measured as $\log_{10}\rho_{\rm{SFR}}/(\rm{M}_\odot\ \rm{yr}^{-1}\ \rm{Mpc}^{-3}) = -1.63\pm0.04$, $-1.07\pm0.06$, and $-0.90\pm0.10$ for H$\alpha$, [OIII], and [OII], respectively. We find our [OIII] and [OII] samples fully trace cosmic star formation activity at their respective redshifts in comparison to multi-wavelength SFRDs, while the H$\alpha$ sample traces $\sim 70$ percent of the total $z = 0.47$ SFRD., Comment: 21 pages, 12 figures, 6 Tables. Stars that escape globular clusters form tidal tails that are predominantly shaped by the global distribution of mass in the Galaxy, but also preserve a historical record of small-scale perturbations. Using deep $grz$ photometry from DECaLS, we present highly probable members of the tidal tails associated with the disrupting globular cluster Palomar 5. These data yield the cleanest view of a stellar stream beyond $\sim20\,\rm kpc$ and reveal: (1) a wide, low surface-brightness extension of the leading tail; (2) significant density variations along the stream; and (3) sharp changes in the direction of both the leading and the trailing tail. In the fiducial Milky Way model, a rotating bar perturbs the Palomar 5 tails and can produce streams with similar width and density profiles to those observed. However, the deviations of the stream track in this simple model do not match those observed in the Palomar 5 trailing tail, indicating the need for an additional source of perturbation. These discoveries open up the possibility of measuring the population of perturbers in the Milky Way, including dark-matter subhalos, with an ensemble of stellar streams and deep photometry alone., Comment: 4 figures, 12 pages; submitted to AAS Journals

We present the largest-ever sample of 79 Ly$\alpha$ emitters (LAEs) at $z\sim$ 7.0 selected in the COSMOS and CDFS fields of the LAGER project (the Lyman Alpha Galaxies in the Epoch of Reionization). Our newly amassed ultradeep narrowband exposure and deeper/wider broadband images have more than doubled the number of LAEs in COSMOS, and we have selected 30 LAEs in the second field CDFS. We detect two large-scale LAE-overdense regions in the COSMOS that are likely protoclusters at the highest redshift to date. We perform injection and recovery simulations to derive the sample incompleteness. We show significant incompleteness comes from blending with foreground sources, which however has not been corrected in LAE luminosity functions in {the} literature. The bright end bump in the Ly$\alpha$ luminosity function in COSMOS is confirmed with 6 (2 newly selected) luminous LAEs (L$_{Ly\alpha}$ $>$ 10$^{43.3}$ erg s$^{-1}$). Interestingly, the bump is absent in CDFS, in which only one luminous LAE is detected. Meanwhile, the faint end luminosity functions from the two fields well agree with each other. The 6 luminous LAEs in COSMOS coincide with 2 LAE-overdense regions, while such regions are not seen in CDFS. The bright-end luminosity function bump could be attributed to ionized bubbles in a patchy reionization. It appears associated with cosmic overdensities, thus supports an inside-out reionization topology at $z$ $\sim$ 7.0, i.e., the high density peaks were ionized earlier compared to the voids. An average neutral hydrogen fraction of $x_{HI}$ $\sim$ 0.2 -- 0.4 is derived at $z\sim$ 7.0 based on the cosmic evolution of the Ly$\alpha$ luminosity function., Comment: 23 pages, 11 figures, 2 tables, accepted for publication in ApJ

We present the design for the first narrowband filter NB964 for the Dark Energy Camera (DECam), which is operated on the 4m Blanco Telescope at the Cerro Tololo Inter-American Observatory. The NB964 filter profile is essentially defined by maximizing the power of searching for Lyman alpha emitting galaxies (LAEs) in the epoch of reionization, with the consideration of the night sky background in the near-infrared and the DECam quantum efficiency. The NB964 filter was manufactured by Materion in 2015. It has a central wavelength of 964.2 nm and a full width at half maximum (FWHM) of 9.2 nm. An NB964 survey named LAGER (Lyman Alpha Galaxies in the Epoch of Reionization) has been ongoing since December 2015. Here we report results of lab tests, on-site tests and observations with the NB964 filter. We have obtained repeated images of 6 fields towards the Galactic bulge in 5 passbands (u, g, r, i, z) with the DECam imager on the Blanco 4m telescope at CTIO. From over 1.6 billion individual photometric measurements in the field centered on Baade's window, we have detected 4877 putative variable stars. 474 of these have been confirmed as fundamental mode RR Lyrae stars, whose colors at minimum light yield line-of-sight reddening determinations as well as a reddening law towards the Galactic Bulge which differs significantly from the standard R_V = 3.1 formulation. Assuming that the stellar mix is invariant over the 3 square-degree field, we are able to derive a line-of-sight reddening map with sub-arcminute resolution, enabling us to obtain de-reddened and extinction corrected color-magnitude diagrams (CMD's) of this bulge field using up to 2.5 million well-measured stars. The corrected CMD's show unprecedented detail and expose sparsely populated sequences: e.g., delineation of the very wide red giant branch, structure within the red giant clump, the full extent of the horizontal branch, and a surprising bright feature which is likely due to stars with ages younger than 1 Gyr. We use the RR Lyrae stars to trace the spatial structure of the ancient stars, and find an exponential decline in density with Galactocentric distance. We discuss ways in which our data products can be used to explore the age and metallicity properties of the bulge, and how our larger list of all variables is useful for learning to interpret future LSST alerts., Comment: accepted for publication in AAS journals; most likely The Astrophysical Journal

The distribution of solar system absolute magnitudes ($H$) for the near-Earth asteroids (NEAs) observable near opposition -- i.e. Amors, Apollos, and Atens ($A^3$) -- is derived from the set of ALL currently known NEAs. The result is based only on common sense assumptions of uniformly random distributions and that the orbital phase space and $H$-magnitude distribution of known NEAs is representative of the total population. There is no population or other modeling and no assumption on albedo except in interpreting the result as a size-frequency distribution (SFD). The analysis is based on the 18355 $A^3$ NEAs cataloged by the MPC as of June 2018. The observations from 9 of the top programs (in terms of number of distinct NEAs observed) and the smaller but deeper DECam NEO Survey are used, comprising 74696 measurements of 13466 NEAs observed within 30 deg of opposition. The only parameter in the analysis is an estimate of the detection magnitude limits for each program. A single power-law slope for the cumulative distribution, $\log(N {\sim}2$Km) provides a normalization that estimates ${\sim}10^8 A^3$ NEAs with $H < {\sim}27$ corresponding to NEAs greater than ${\sim}10$m in diameter for reasonable typical albedos. Restricting the analysis to Earth crossing asteroids (10839 known, 7336 selected, 36541 observed) produces the same power-law slope.

We present the $ugriz$-band Dark Energy Camera (DECam) plus 3.6 and 4.5 $\mu$m IRAC catalogs for the Spitzer/HETDEX Exploratory Large-Area (SHELA) survey. SHELA covers $\sim24$ deg$^{2}$ of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) Stripe 82 region, with seven bandpasses spanning a wavelength range of 0.35 to 4.5 $\mu$m. SHELA falls within the footprint of the Hobby-Eberly Telescope Dark Energy Experiment (HETDEX), which will provide spectroscopic redshifts for $\sim200{,}000$ Ly$\alpha$ emitters at $1.9

The DESI Legacy Imaging Surveys are a combination of three public projects (the Dark Energy Camera Legacy Survey, the Beijing-Arizona Sky Survey, and the Mayall z-band Legacy Survey) that will jointly image approximately 14,000 deg^2 of the extragalactic sky visible from the northern hemisphere in three optical bands (g, r, and z) using telescopes at the Kitt Peak National Observatory and the Cerro Tololo Inter-American Observatory. The combined survey footprint is split into two contiguous areas by the Galactic plane. The optical imaging is conducted using a unique strategy of dynamically adjusting the exposure times and pointing selection during observing that results in a survey of nearly uniform depth. In addition to calibrated images, the project is delivering a catalog, constructed by using a probabilistic inference-based approach to estimate source shapes and brightnesses. The catalog includes photometry from the grz optical bands and from four mid-infrared bands (at 3.4, 4.6, 12 and 22 micorons) observed by the Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer (WISE) satellite during its full operational lifetime. The project plans two public data releases each year. All the software used to generate the catalogs is also released with the data. We characterize the absolute magnitudes and colors of RR Lyrae stars in the globular cluster M5 in the ugriz filter system of the Dark Energy Camera (DECam). We provide empirical Period-Luminosity (P-L) relationships in all 5 bands based on 47 RR Lyrae stars of the type ab and 14 stars of the type c. The P-L relationships were found to be better constrained for the fundamental mode RR Lyrae stars in the riz passbands, with dispersion of 0.03, 0.02 and 0.02 magnitudes, respectively. The dispersion of the color at minimum light was found to be small, supporting the use of this parameter as a means to obtain accurate interstellar extinctions along the line of sight up to the distance of the RR Lyrae star. We found a trend of color at minimum light with pulsational period that, if taken into account, brings the dispersion in color at minimum light to < 0.016 magnitudes for the (r-i), (i-z), and (r-z) colors. These calibrations will be very useful for using RR Lyrae stars from DECam observations as both standard candles for distance determinations and color standards for reddening measurements., Comment: Accepted for publication in AJ

DESI (Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument) is a Stage IV ground-based dark energy experiment that will study baryon acoustic oscillations (BAO) and the growth of structure through redshift-space distortions with a wide-area galaxy and quasar redshift survey. To trace the underlying dark matter distribution, spectroscopic targets will be selected in four classes from imaging data. We will measure luminous red galaxies up to $z=1.0$. To probe the Universe out to even higher redshift, DESI will target bright [O II] emission line galaxies up to $z=1.7$. Quasars will be targeted both as direct tracers of the underlying dark matter distribution and, at higher redshifts ($ 2.1 < z < 3.5$), for the Ly-$\alpha$ forest absorption features in their spectra, which will be used to trace the distribution of neutral hydrogen. When moonlight prevents efficient observations of the faint targets of the baseline survey, DESI will conduct a magnitude-limited Bright Galaxy Survey comprising approximately 10 million galaxies with a median $z\approx 0.2$. In total, more than 30 million galaxy and quasar redshifts will be obtained to measure the BAO feature and determine the matter power spectrum, including redshift space distortions.

DESI (Dark Energy Spectropic Instrument) is a Stage IV ground-based dark energy experiment that will study baryon acoustic oscillations and the growth of structure through redshift-space distortions with a wide-area galaxy and quasar redshift survey. The DESI instrument is a robotically-actuated, fiber-fed spectrograph capable of taking up to 5,000 simultaneous spectra over a wavelength range from 360 nm to 980 nm. The fibers feed ten three-arm spectrographs with resolution $R= \lambda/\Delta\lambda$ between 2000 and 5500, depending on wavelength. The DESI instrument will be used to conduct a five-year survey designed to cover 14,000 deg$^2$. This powerful instrument will be installed at prime focus on the 4-m Mayall telescope in Kitt Peak, Arizona, along with a new optical corrector, which will provide a three-degree diameter field of view. The DESI collaboration will also deliver a spectroscopic pipeline and data management system to reduce and archive all data for eventual public use.

We have obtained spectra for 1273 stars using the 0.9m Coud\'e Feed telescope at Kitt Peak National Observatory. This telescope feeds the coud\'e spectrograph of the 2.1m telescope. The spectra have been obtained with the #5 camera of the coud\'e spectrograph and a Loral 3K X 1K CCD. Two gratings have been used to provide spectral coverage from 3460 \AA to 9464 \AA, at a resolution of $\sim$1\AA FWHM and at an original dispersion of 0.44 \AA/pixel. For 885 stars we have complete spectra over the entire 3460 \AA to 9464 \AA wavelength region (neglecting small gaps of $<$ 50 \AA), and partial spectral coverage for the remaining stars. The 1273 stars have been selected to provide broad coverage of the atmospheric parameters T$_{eff}$, log g, and [Fe/H], as well as spectral type. The goal of the project is to provide a comprehensive library of stellar spectra for use in the automated classification of stellar and galaxy spectra and in galaxy population synthesis. In this paper we discuss the characteristics of the spectral library, viz., details of the observations, data reduction procedures, and selection of stars. We also present a few illustrations of the quality and information available in the spectra.
