Background: Healthcare services require effective interaction with patients, their relatives, and members of the multidisciplinary team in complex and dynamic environments. Health professionals need well-developed communication skills to ensure that these interactions promote and maintain patient safety. Aim This study aimed to develop a cognitive behavioral therapy based assertiveness training program to improve the nursing students' competencies and to evaluate its effectiveness., Methods: This study was conducted using a control group experimental design based on the pre-test and post-test model. The study was completed with 53 students, 28 and 25 in the training and the control groups, respectively. The cognitive behavioral therapy based assertiveness training applied in this study were conducted online via Zoom twice a week for a total of eight sessions. Survey data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, paired t-tests and independent sample t-test method., Results: The assertiveness scores of the students in the training group increased significantly (p = 0.004), there was no significant change in the scores of those in the control group (p = 0.922). There was no statistically significant improvement in self-confidence (p = 0.180) and self-esteem levels after the training (p = 0.519)., Conclusions: The results showed that the training program provided a decrease in the passive behaviors of nursing students and an improvement in their assertive behaviors. Individuals can be enabled to recognize their needs and desires in communication, reject unrealistic requests, and express their feelings in a direct way with assertiveness training. This study investigated denture care attitudes, dental visit habits, oral mucosal lesions, and hygiene levels in 118 complete denture users treated at a university dentistry faculty. Data on demographics, smoking, denture use duration, dentist visits, and hygiene habits were collected via a questionnaire. A specialist examined mucosal lesions and assessed denture hygiene level using the Budtz-Jorgensen and Bertram method. Categorical data were analyzed with Yates's correction, Pearson's chi-square, and Fisher-Freeman-Halton tests; multiple comparisons used the Bonferroni Corrected Z Test. Participants' mean age was 51.61. Most were non-smokers (55.1%), visited dentists only for complaints (44.9%), cleaned dentures daily (70.3%), and removed them at night (56.8%). Good hygiene was observed in 40.68%. Females cleaned dentures more frequently than males, and 96.3% of those with poor hygiene reported bad denture odor. This study revealed significant deficiencies in denture care habits and inadequate hygiene practices of participants in a university dentistry faculty clinic. Most participants visited dentists only for complaints and had bad habits such as sleeping with their dentures at night and using inappropriate denture hygiene habits. Promoting proper denture hygiene habits and emphasizing the importance of regular dental visits can contribute to better oral health., Competing Interests: Declarations. Purpose: Peripheral neuropathy is one of the most devastating symptoms experienced by the patients. Supportive and holistic care interventions are crucial to help these patients. The aim of this study is to determine the effects of hand and foot exercises on chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy and quality of life in women with breast cancer., Methods: The sample of this randomized controlled trial study consisted of 79 women with breast cancer who underwent taxane-group chemotherapy in a hospital. The women diagnosed with grade 1 or higher peripheral neuropathy were included in the study. Women were divided into three groups as exercises with a massage ball, exercises with a stress ball, and control group. Hand and foot exercises last for 8 weeks. Data were collected using the Information Form, the Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events, and the European Organization for the Research and Treatment of Cancer Quality of Life Questionnaire., Results: The severity of neuropathy decreased significantly in both massage ball and stress ball exercise groups compared to the control group (p < 0.05). The group and time interaction was statistically significant in fatigue, pain, and motor symptoms (p < 0.05)., Conclusion: Women with breast cancer who undergo neurotoxic chemotherapy are thought to alleviate neuropathy symptoms and enhance their quality of life through simple home-based exercises. This study evaluated the color stability, surface roughness, and hardness of 3D-printed and heat-polymerized denture materials. A total of 90 samples were prepared, with equal numbers of 3D-printed and heat-polymerized disks. The initial hardness, surface roughness, and color values of the samples were measured. After 14 days of immersion in distilled water, natural orange juice, or commercial orange juice, the measurements were repeated. Based on the findings, 3D-printed samples exhibited a greater reduction in Vickers hardness (56.24 ± 15.81%) compared to heat-polymerized samples (18.93 ± 11.41%). Materials immersed in commercial orange juice exhibited a greater reduction in hardness compared to those in other solutions (43.13 ± 23.66). Surface roughness increased by 46.66 ± 26.8% in heat-polymerized samples and by 26.16 ± 20.78% in 3D-printed samples, with the highest increase observed in commercial orange juice (50.73 ± 28.8%) ( p < 0.001). The color change (ΔE) was significantly higher in heat-polymerized samples (ΔE = 5.05 ± 0.28) than in 3D-printed samples (ΔE = 3.9 ± 0.26) ( p < 0.001). This study demonstrates that the material type and immersion solutions play a critical role in determining the mechanical and optical properties of denture materials, with commercial orange juice having the most pronounced effect on surface roughness and hardness.

Aim: The aim of this study was to develop the Cancer Attitude Scale (CAS) and to evaluate its psychometric properties., Methods: The study was conducted in a mixed-methods study. The preliminary version of the CAS was created by developing an item pool, and qualitative interviews. The items' content validity ratio was calculated to assess content validity. Construct validity was assessed using exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis. Internal consistency and test-retest methods were used to determine the reliability of the scale. The Cancer Information Burden Scale was used to evaluate the convergent validity of the scale. Three hundred twenty-five healthy individuals selected by convenience sampling method were included in this study., Results: The CAS sub-dimensions were determined as cancer diagnosis, cancer prevention, stigmatization of individuals with cancer, and personal empowerment after cancer. The content validity of the 22-item scale was 0.94 and four factors explaining 56% of the variance. The model fit indices were χ 2 /df = 1.968, RMSEA = 0.055, SRMR = 0.085, and GFI = 0.904. . Cronbach's α and test-retest reliability coefficients of the total scale are 0.76 and 0.936, respectively. The CAS and Cancer Information Overload Scale showed acceptable convergent validity (r = 0.435, P < .001)., Conclusions: The Cancer Attitude Scale is a valid and reliable tool that can be applied to assess the attitudes of individuals in the community toward cancer in a multidimensional way., Implications for Practice: Nurses play crucial roles in society, including enhancing cancer awareness, delivering counseling services, and providing health education. Background: Oral Health-Related Quality of Life (OHRQoL) is a term that encompasses conditions such as oral health status, living conditions, and function. OHQoL can change with the varying health conditions of the same individual. Many patients cannot afford implants or have anatomical limitations and therefore use traditional removable dentures. There are comparatively few studies investigating OHRQoL and denture satisfaction that include the patients' sociodemographic data, denture satisfaction and related questions., Aim: This study aimed to investigate OHRQoL and patients' satisfaction with three types of dentures: upper and lower complete dentures, upper and lower partial dentures, and upper complete lower partial dentures., Methods: The study was conducted between January 2022 and June 2023, with 150 patients using removable dentures. Patients' age, gender, education level, place of residence, smoking status, reasons for tooth loss and visiting the clinic, type of denture and the duration of denture use were recorded. Oral Health Impact Profile (OHIP-14) and patient satisfaction with dentures as measured on a Visual Analog Scale (VAS) were used to assess patients' satisfactions with OHRQoL and dentures respectively. Descriptive statistics, the Shapiro-Wilk normality test, the Mann-Whitney non-parametric test and the Kruskal-Wallis test were used., Results: Statistically significant differences were found between gender, prosthetic type, usage duration and OHIP and VAS scores (p < 0.05). Women's OHIP scores were higher than men's, patients using complete dentures had higher scores than those using partial dentures in both jaws, those using dentures for less than 1 year had higher scores than those that had used them for more than 1 year. The analysis revealed no statistically significant differences in OHIP and VAS scores based on age, education level, and place of residence (p > 0.05)., Conclusions: Patients may find it easier to adapt to removable partial dentures compared to complete dentures. Therefore, in prosthetic planning, dentists should prioritize preserving existing teeth. Regardless of the type of prosthesis, patients adapt to their prostheses over time, leading to increased satisfaction with prolonged use. Our objective is to analyse the observations related to intrauterine volvulus and assess how clinical manifestations and treatment strategies impact prognosis. We conducted a comprehensive search on Pubmed and ClinicalTrials.gov from inception to July 2022, using search terms like "intrauterine volvulus" or "foetal volvulus," supplemented by manual scrutiny of reference lists in relevant texts and articles. Our review encompassed 57 case reports/case series, involving 88 cases. The presence of foetal bradycardia during prenatal visits (p = 0.002) and the existence of meconium cyst or pseudocyst (p = 0.038) significantly influence survival rates. Preterm labour occurred more frequently among cases resulting in mortality (54% vs 21%; p = 0.055). Our study's limitations include the inability to access all reported cases and reliance solely on available data. We advocate for vigilant monitoring of foetuses exhibiting signs of intestinal obstruction, and consideration of an emergent caesarean section as a pre-emptive measure before foetal biophysical profile deterioration worsens., (© 2024. Objective: In recent years, safety concerns about modafinil exposure during pregnancy have emerged. In particular, increased risks for major congenital anomalies (MCA) and impaired fetal growth were reported, although study results were conflicting. Our investigation aims to examine previously reported safety signals., Method: Multicenter case series based on data from 18 Teratology Information Services from 12 countries. Modafinil exposed pregnancies with an estimated date of birth before August 2019 were included in this study. For prospectively ascertained pregnancies, cumulative incidences of pregnancy outcomes, rate of nonchromosomal MCA in first trimester exposed pregnancies and percentiles of neonatal/infant weight and head circumference (HC) were calculated. Potential dose-dependent effects on fetal growth were explored by linear regression models. Retrospectively ascertained cases were screened for pattern of MCA and other adverse events., Results: One hundred and seventy-five prospectively ascertained cases were included, of which 173 were exposed at least during the first trimester. Cumulative incidences for live birth, spontaneous abortion and elective termination of pregnancy were 76.9% (95% CI, 68.0%-84.8%), 9.3% (95% CI, 5.0%-16.9%), and 13.9% (95% CI, 8.1%-23.1%), respectively. Nonchromosomal MCA was present in 3/150 live births, corresponding to an MCA rate of 2.0% (95%CI, 0.6%-6.1%), none were reported in pregnancy losses. Compared to reference standards, birth weight (BW) tended to be lower and neonatal HC to be smaller in exposed newborns (data available for 144 and 73 of 153 live births, respectively). In nonadjusted linear regression models, each 100 mg increase of average dosage per pregnancy day was associated with a decrease in standard deviation score (SDS) of -0.28 SDS (95% CI, -0.45 to -0.10) for BW and of -0.28 SDS (95% CI, -0.56 to 0.01) for HC. Screening of 22 retrospectively reported cases did not reveal any specific pattern of MCA or other adverse outcomes., Conclusion: The results do not indicate an increased risk of MCA after in utero exposure to modafinil, but a tendency toward lower BW and reduced neonatal HC. Hypertensive disorders of pregnancy are significant contributors to maternal and perinatal morbidity and mortality. The definition, classification, and management of these disorders have evolved over time. Notably, the disease classification enables caretakers to manage the disease as well as safeguard maternal and fetal health. The approach and management for pregnancies with gestational and chronic hypertension or pre-eclampsia with or without severe features should be adequately elucidated to mitigate adverse perinatal outcomes. Background and Purpose: To evaluate the long-term effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on seizure frequency and levels of mental distress in individuals with epilepsy and identify potential risk factors associated with increased seizure frequency., Methods: This is a cross-sectional study conducted in Türkiye in May 2021 by phone. Information on epilepsy syndromes, antiseizure medications, average seizure frequency, and drug resistance was obtained from medical records. A questionnaire was completed that included demographic and clinical characteristics and Kessler Psychological Distress Scale 10 (K-10). From people with epilepsy (PWE), seizure control in the month before the pandemic and perceived stress, sleep changes, changes in adaptation during this period, and whether there were changes in seizure control after the pandemic were questioned., Results: A total of 227 patients were included, and the K-10 score of 81.9% (186/227) of PWE was found to be ≥30. An increase in seizure frequency was detected in 34 (15%) patients. The factors affecting the increase in seizure frequency were analyzed using logistic regression analysis. In the univariate model hesitate to go to the emergency room despite having seizures during the pandemic (OR= 8.325; 95% CI: [2.943 - 23.551], p=0.001) was evaluated as the parameter with the highest risk of increased seizure frequency. In multivariate analyses (enter model) only polytherapy (OR= 2.945; 95% CI: [1.152 - 7.532], p=0.024) was detected as the parameter with increased seizure frequency., Conclusion: One year after the declaration of the pandemic, we found that stress was still common, the frequency of seizures increased. In multivariate analyses, only polytherapy was detected as the parameter with increased seizure frequency.

Although studies suggest that cognitive functions in the elderly are impaired, elderly people tend to be more successful and wiser in solving emotional problems. In empathy-like behavior models, the observer rat rescues the distressed cage mate by displaying emotional and cognitive ability. The aim of the study was to investigate the changes in empathy-like behavior in older rats in comparison to adult rats. In addition, we wanted to determine the effects of alterations in neurochemicals (such as corticosterone, oxytocin, vasopressin, and their receptor levels) and emotional situations on this behavior. In our study, we initially completed empathy-like behavior tests and emotional tests (open field, elevated plus maze) and performed neurochemical examinations in the serum and brain tissues. In the second step of research, we applied a midazolam (benzodiazepine) treatment to examine the effect of anxiety on empathy-like behavior. In the old rats, we observed that empathy-like behavior deteriorated, and anxiety signs were more pronounced. We detected a positive correlation between the latency in empathy-like behavior and corticosterone levels and v1b receptor levels. The midazolam effect on empathy-like behavior was attenuated by flumazenil (a benzodiazepine receptor antagonist). The recordings of ultrasonic vocalization showed frequencies around 50 kHz emitted by the observer and this was associated with the expectation of social contact. Our results state that compared to adult rats, old rats were more concerned and failed during empathy-like behavior. Midazolam may improve this behavior by anxiolysis., (© 2023. Bilateral medial medullary infarction is a rare subtype of stroke.The typical heart-shaped appearance on magnetic resonance imaging is pathognomonic for bilateral medial medullary syndrome. Vertebrobasilar dolichoectasia is a condition characterized by tortuous dilatation and marked enlargement of the basilar and vertebral arteries, and it may cause posterior circulation infarction. We present the case of a 55-year-old female patient with complaints of speech disorder, regression in consciousness, and difficulty breathing. Diffusion-weighted imaging examination was normal on arrival. In the cranial imaging after 24 hours, acute infarction was observed in the bilateral medial medullary area. Time-of-flight magnetic resonance angiography revealed vertebrobasilar dolichoectasia. In this report, a case of bilateral medial medullary infarction with a unique radiological appearance accompanied by vertebrobasilar dolichoectasia, which is rarely reported in the literature, is presented. One of the most common problems in individuals receiving neurotoxic chemotherapy is neuropathy. The study aimed to evaluate the peripheral neuropathy and the relationship between neuropathy, disability, and anxiety in patients receiving neurotoxic chemotherapy. The sample of the study consisted of individuals with cancer in the chemotherapy unit of a city hospital between March and July 2021. The study was conducted in 180 patients who underwent at least three cycles of neurotoxic chemotherapy and agreed to participate. The Introductory Information Form, Brief Disability Questionnaire, Beck Anxiety Inventory, and Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events were used to collect data. The prevalence of peripheral neuropathy in patients undergoing neurotoxic chemotherapy was 73.3% in this study. According to the severity of peripheral neuropathy, disability and anxiety scores of the patients showed a significant difference (p < .001). A positive, moderate significant correlation was determined between the scores for anxiety and disability. The variables affecting the neuropathy levels of individuals receiving chemotherapy were determined as marital status (odds ratio=0.239), number of cycles (odds ratio=0.125), and anxiety levels (odds ratio=1.076). The results of the present study indicated that the frequency of neuropathy was high and the severity of neuropathy was associated with anxiety and disability levels. According to the holistic approach, the physical and psychosocial effects of neuropathy should be evaluated.

Objectives: This study was conducted to investigate the effect of music on anxiety, pain, and physiologic parameters in women undergoing brachytherapy., Data Sources: The study was conducted with a randomized controlled design between June and December 2022. Music intervention was practiced to the patients in the experimental group (n = 30), while no practice was given to the control group (n = 25). In the study, the data were collected using the Descriptive Information Form, Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale, visual analog scale, and vital signs (temperature, pulse rate, blood pressure, respiratory rate, SpO 2 ) recording form. Intergroup and intragroup averages were evaluated by the mixed-design analysis of variance. Variables with pre-post intervention designs were evaluated with the one-way analysis of covariance. There was no significant difference in physiological parameters between the groups (P > . 05). Although the mean anxiety scores decreased in the music group and increased in the control group, there was no statistically significant difference (P > .05). A significant difference was found in the pain levels of the patients in repeated measurements made in intragroup evaluations (P < .001). The depression mean of the music intervention group was significantly lower than the control group (P ≤ .05)., Conclusion: It was concluded that the music played during the brachytherapy process had positive effects on feeling less pain and management of depressive symptoms but did not affect anxiety and physiological parameters. The aim of the study is to compare the perinatal outcomes of twin pregnancies resulting from assisted reproductive technology (ART) treatment in which granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF) was used with those in which it was not. In this retrospective study, the clinical data of 122 dichorionic diamniotic twin pregnancies were reviewed. Pregnancies were divided into two groups, G-CSF-treated and non-G-CSF treated. Maternal age, gestational week at birth, oligohydramnios, gestational hypertension, pre-eclampsia, preterm birth, first-trimester bleeding, gestational diabetes, rupture of membrane, foetal congenital anomalies, admission to the neonatal intensive care unit, birth weight (BW), small for gestational age, BW discordance, Apgar score and placental weight were compared between the groups.IMPACT STATEMENT What is already known on this subject? Granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF) administrations increase pregnancy outcomes and do not have a negative effect on perinatal outcomes in singleton pregnancies. What the results of this study add? This study showed that the perinatal outcome of dichorionic diamniotic twin pregnancies conceived after assisted reproductive technology (ART) treatment was similar in the GSF administrated and non-GSF administrated groups. What the implications are of these findings for clinical practice and/or further research? Using G-CSF to increase the success of ART does not seem to have an adverse outcome in the dichorionic diamniotic twin pregnancies.

Background: The development of professional values in nursing students is an important issue for the nursing profession. However, the research on nursing students' professional values and its related factors is very limited., Purpose: This cross-sectional and correlational study aimed to examine the mediating effect of empathy between moral sensitivity and professional values., Methods: This study was conducted with 328 second, third and fourth-year students. The participants completed an online survey consisting of the student information form, Modified Moral Sensitivity Questionnaire for Student Nurses, Empathic Tendency Scale and Nursing Professional Values Scale., Results: The results showed that moral sensitivity affected undergraduate nursing students' professional values not only directly but also indirectly through empathic tendency., Conclusions: The results of the study show that moral sensitivity and empathic tendency support the acquisition of professional values in undergraduate nursing students. Aim and Background: There are not enough studies on the direct effect of virtual patient visits on patients' vital signs in intensive care. The aim of this study is to determine the effect of video calls made between conscious patients and their families on the patient's vital signs and to determine the level of satisfaction., Materials and Methods: The research was carried out quasi-experimentally. Study data were collected from 135 patients and their relatives. The data were collected from the vital signs monitoring form and the Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS). Satisfaction with the video call was measured with a score scale between 0 and 5. Video calls were conducted by an intensive care unit (ICU) nurse every day between 13:00 and 15:00 for 5 days. Physiological parameters were measured 30 minutes before, during, and 30 minutes after the video calls., Results: The mean patient pulse rate (PR) value was 92.04 ± 12.87, respiratory rate (RR) value was 22.89 ± 3.63, and GCS total score was 14.01 ± 0.12 during the call. There was a statistically significant difference between these values measured during the video calls and the values measured before and after the interview ( p < 0.00). The mean score of patient satisfaction with the video call was 4.80 ± 0.44; for relatives, the mean score was 4.87 ± 0.33., Conclusion: This study revealed that video calls with family members affected PR, RR, and GCS of patients hospitalized in ICU., Clinical Significance: Video calls can be implemented in all ICUs where visits are restricted. Magnesium is being investigated in various clinical conditions and has shown to be effective in some chronic pain models. However, it is not clear if oral magnesium use affects pain perception in acute pain. TLR4's (toll-like receptor) role in pain perception has emerged through its role in immune pathways and ion channels. The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of a single oral dose of magnesium citrate on pain conduction and whether with magnesium, the expression of TLR4 changes in the acute phase. Following a single dose of 66-mg/kg magnesium citrate administration to male Balb-c mice, pain perception (via hot-plate test), motor conduction (via electrophysiological recording, forelimb grip strength, rotarod and open-field tests), and emotional state (via elevated plus maze and forced swim test) were evaluated. In behavioral experiments, the control group was compared with applied magnesium for three different time groups (4, 8, 24 h). TLR4 expression was measured in four groups: control, magnesium (Mg), hot plate (HP), and Mg + HP. Hot plate latency was prolonged in the magnesium group (p < 0.0001) and electrophysiological recordings (p < 0.001) and forelimb grip strength measurement (p < 0.001) determined motor latency. Compared with the untreated hot plate group, TLR4 levels was lower in the brain (p = 0.023) and higher in the sciatic nerve (p = 0.001) in the magnesium-treated hot plate group. Consequently, the study indicated a single dose of magnesium citrate appeared to cause weakening in the transmission and perception of nociceptive pain. Previous research has used stationary eye-tracking in the lab to examine age differences in attentional deployment, showing that older adults display gaze patterns toward positive stimuli. This positive gaze preference sometimes improves older adults' mood compared to their younger counterparts. However, the lab environment may lead to different emotion regulation behavior among older adults compared to what they do in their everyday life. We, therefore, present the first use of stationary eye-tracking within participants' homes to examine gaze patterns toward video clips of varying valence and to study age differences in emotional attention among younger, middle-aged, and older adults in a more naturalistic environment. We also compared these results to in-lab gaze preferences among the same participants. Older adults deployed attention more to positive stimuli in the lab but more to negative stimuli in the home. This increased attention to negative content in the home predicted higher self-reported arousal outcomes among middle-aged and older adults. Gaze preferences toward emotional stimuli may thus differ depending on the context, emphasizing the need to explore more naturalistic settings within emotion regulation and aging research. Although some lab studies suggest older adults rely more on attentional deployment to regulate their emotions, little is known about age differences in specific attention deployment tactic use and how they relate to mood regulation in everyday life. The current longitudinal experience sampling study considered several different attention deployment tactics, such as shifting or focusing attention to positive and negative elements either internally or externally (thoughts and feelings vs. external environment). Younger, middle-aged, and older adults ( N = 236) responded to surveys about their affective experience five times a day for 5 days, five times over the course of a year; they reported on types of attention deployment they used, how they felt, and the nature of their current situation. We also considered the role of COVID-19. Positive attention deployment tactics were the most popular tactic for all age groups and were positively related to affective experience. However, younger adults used positive internal attention focus less than the other age groups, whereas older adults used all negative attention deployment tactics less than the other age groups (all p s < .05). After the onset of COVID, participants felt more negative and increased attention shift tactics, although this varied by age. Although older adults generally seem to shift and focus attention less frequently toward negative aspects than other age groups, life challenges (such as COVID-19) may modulate their use of positive attention deployment tactics. Background: This study aimed to compare the serum angiotensin II and its receptor levels (AT1, AT2) in septic patients with catecholamine-responsive or resistant. The effect of hydrocortisone treatment on angiotensin II levels in the catecholamine-resistant septic patients was evaluated., Methods: This prospective observational study enrolled 40 patients diagnosed with septic shock based on sepsis-3 criteria. Patients were divided into two groups according to the noradrenalin infusion rate required to keep the mean arterial pressure above 65 mmHg: control group and hydrocortisone group (control group: below 0.5 µg/kg/min, hydrocortisone group: above 0.5 µg/kg/min). Serum angiotensin II, AT1, AT2 levels were measured at the time of diagnosis (A), one hour after hydrocortisone treatment (B), and three days later (C)., Results: In the catecholamine-resistant group, angiotensin II and AT1 levels were higher than the catecholamine-responder group in all periods. The sensitivity and specificity of AT-1 was observed to be high in all periods. AT2 levels decreased after hydrocortisone treatment in the catecholamine-resistant group and cut-off value was found 11%., Conclusions: It was concluded that angiotensin II and AT1 can be used as a biomarker of refractory septic shock and hydrocortisone may provide their blood pressure correcting effect by reducing AT2 level in these patients. AT2 can be a therapeutic target in the catecholamine-resistant septic shock patients.

Non-syndromic cleft lip and/or palate (NSCL/P) is a congenital malformation with a prevalence of 1:700 births. It has a multifactorial etiology. Human craniofacial development takes place during the first 10 weeks of pregnancy. Normal craniofacial development arises from the convergence and fusion of the facial and palatal processes and involves interactions between genes that regulate cell growth, proliferation, differentiation, epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition, and apoptosis. Whole genome/exome analysis, and also genome-wide association studies give us to chance to identify the genetic factors which contribute to the development of NSCL/P. To determine whether gestational use of all or specific macrolides (azithromycin, clarithromycin, roxithromycin or erythromycin) lead to an increase in rates of overall major congenital malformations, organ-specific malformations, and other adverse pregnancy outcomes in infants. PubMed/MEDLINE, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials and Reprotox® databases were searched. Dichotomous outcomes or calculated log odds ratios and standard errors from observational studies are combined using the random-effects method in Review Manager 5.3. No significant increased risks for major congenital malformation (OR 1.06 [95% CI 0.99, 1.13]) and congenital heart defect (OR 1.05 [95% CI 0.92, 1.19]) following all macrolides use during the first trimester were detected. Prenatal azithromycin use was associated with a significantly increased risk of major congenital malformations in the analysis of cohort studies (OR 1.21 [95% CI 1.08-1.36]). This significance was also present in the sensitivity analysis. There were no statistically significant associations between the risk of organ specific malformations and all or specific macrolide exposures except for the decreased risk in hypospadias following erythromycin use in the meta-analysis of case-control studies (OR 0.38 [95% CI 0.18, 0.81]. Also, a significant 1.5-fold increased risk for spontaneous abortion following macrolide use was detected. A slight yet significantly increased rate of major congenital malformation with azithromycin exposure during pregnancy may be associated with maternal confounders. Nevertheless, level II ultrasound can be suggested following maternal azithromycin use during the first trimester. Objectives: Potassium (K + ) channel openers and calcium (Ca 2+ ) channel blockers are currently used to treat acute severe hypertension in pregnancy. We aimed to investigate the vasorelaxant effect of NS11021, a potent and specific big-conductance Ca 2+ -activated K + (BKCa) channel activator, and to compare it with the vasorelaxant effect of nifedipine on human umbilical arteries (HUAs) isolated from healthy and preeclamptic pregnants., Study Design: A total of 29 HUAs were isolated immediately after delivery from 14 healthy and 15 preeclamptic pregnant with severe features. The concentration-dependent relaxation responses were obtained to nifedipine and NS11021 on HUAs precontracted with endothelin-1 (ET-1) (10 -8 M) in an isolated tissue bath., Results: Both nifedipine and NS11021 caused concentration-dependent relaxation responses in HUAs from healthy and preeclamptic pregnants. While the maximum responses (Emax) and pD 2 values of nifedipine did not change significantly in both groups, the Emax and pD 2 values of NS11021 were significantly decreased in the preeclampsia group (Emax ± SEM; %75.57 ± 4.53 and %43.75 ± 14.00 and pD 2  ± SEM; 6.92 ± 0.26 and 5.24 ± 0.53 respectively, p < 0.05). In addition, the pD 2 value of NS11021 was not significantly different from that of nifedipine in the control group, but decreased significantly in the preeclampsia group (pD 2  ± SEM 7.1 ± 0.41 and 5.2 ± 0.53, p < 0.05, respectively)., Conclusions: Efficacy and potency of NS11021 decreased in HUAs from preeclamptic pregnants. Also, NS11021 is less potent than nifedipine in the preeclampsia group. PERMA is a multidimensional framework that explains well-being through five hedonic and eudaimonic psychological elements-Positive emotions, Engagement, Relationships, Meaning, Accomplishment. Soon after the PERMA framework was proposed, PERMA-Profiler was introduced as a validated assessment tool for measuring these five elements of well-being from a global perspective. The current study aimed to shed further light onto the measurement of PERMA elements, extending it beyond global evaluations, to daily life assessments and the examination of individual differences in their dynamic characteristics. We introduce m PERMA ( momentary PERMA), as an EMA-adapted version of the PERMA-Profiler measure, to assess well-being in daily life. Using data collected in an Ecological Momentary Assessment (EMA) study (N = 160), we first demonstrate the factor structure of m PERMA through a multilevel factor analysis and next examine within-person means and the dynamics of change (e.g., intra-individual variability) in the PERMA elements. Findings revealed that m PERMA displays convergent validity with two global measures of hedonic and eudaimonic well-being, namely Flourishing and Subjective Well-Being. Moreover, dynamical characteristics of the five elements of well-being measured over time, map onto their corresponding hedonic or eudaimonic global measures of well-being. Objective: This study aims to compare the maternal serum delta neutrophil index (DNI) levels in intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy (ICP) and healthy pregnancies., Methods: This study consisted of a group of patients (n = 40) diagnosed with isolated ICP who gave birth in our hospital and a control group (n = 60) between December 1, 2015, and June 30, 2018. The diagnosis of ICP was made based on pruritus and elevated fasting serum bile acids and liver enzymes. Laboratory tests of both groups in the hospitalization process were retrospectively examined. Maternal and neonatal characteristics, pregnancy outcomes, and DNI values of the two groups were compared. Statistical analyses were performed using SPSS version 20., Results: Mean maternal serum DNI levels were significantly higher in women with ICP than in the control group (0.49 ± 4.8 vs -3.99 ± 3.02, p = <0.01). Background: The aim of this study was to evaluate the place of angiotensin II and its receptors in the prognosis of septic patients., Methods: Patients with sepsis and septic shock were included in the study group. The control group consisted of patients who were followed up in the ICU and had no sepsis/septic shock. Plasma angiotensin II, angiotensin receptor-1 and 2 (AT-1, AT-2) levels were evaluated first and third days., Results: Angiotensin II levels were significantly lower in the septic shock and non-survivor. AT-1 levels were lower in all septic patients on the first day compared to the control. While AT-1 levels on the third day decreased in the septic shock group, it increased in the sepsis group. AT-2 levels were significantly higher in sepsis, and lower in septic shock compared to controls on the first day. Angiotensin II (95%, 82%) and AT-2 levels (100%, 87%) were observed to have high sensitivity and specificity in demonstrating the presence of shock in septic patients. Angiotensin II and AT-1/AT-2 ratios were observed to have high sensitivity and low specificity in the development of mortality., Conclusions: In septic patients, angiotensin II, AT-2 and AT-1/AT-2 levels can predict the probability of shock development and mortality.

Background: Although nursing has made progress as a profession, there are still some negative myths to be dispelled., Purpose: This descriptive, cross-sectional study was conducted to determine the nursing image perceived by the society during the Covid-19 pandemic., Methods: The research population consisted of 663 people who were not in the nursing profession in Turkey. The data were collected with a sociodemographic data form that was prepared by the researchers and a questionnaire that contained questions on the image of nursing. The McNemar Test was used for statistical analysis., Results: Individuals have positive views towards the nursing profession compared to the prepandemic period. Nursing is accepted as a profession that is well known (82.8%), respected (69.8%) and difficult working conditions (88.2%) by individuals in the society (p < .05). Purpose: The purpose of the study was to examine the effects of mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) on stress levels and mindfulness of nursing students., Methods: The study was quasi-experimental and included pretest-posttest control groups., Results: No differences were detected between the pretest scores of the scales of the students of both groups. Aims: The objective of this meta-analysis was to determine whether maternal exposure to statins is associated with increased rates of major congenital malformations and other adverse pregnancy outcomes., Methods: PubMed/Medline, Web of Science and Reprotox® databases were searched. Cohort and case control studies with prenatal exposure to statins were included., Results: Analysis of five cohort studies and one case-control study showed no significant increase in rate of major congenital malformations when the exposed group was compared with the control ([OR 1.27; 95% CI 0.80-2.04], [aOR 1.05; 95% CI 0.84-1.31]). A significant increase in heart defect risk was detected in the statin-exposed group when unadjusted ORs were combined (OR 2.47; 95% CI 1.36-4.49). Further analysis of the same outcome by using adjusted ORs showed no significant increase in heart defect risk in the statin-exposed group compared with the controls (aOR 1.24; 95% CI 0.93-1.66). A significantly lower live birth rate (OR 0.60, 95% CI 0.49-0.75) and a higher spontaneous abortion rate (OR 1.36; 95% Cl 1.06-1.75) were detected in the statin-exposed group., Conclusions: Gestational statin exposure was not associated with a significant increase in risk of major congenital malformations, heart defects and other adverse pregnancy outcomes, except spontaneous abortion and live birth rate, which may be associated with maternal comorbidity and other unadjusted risk factors. We investigated the effects of exercise in multiple sessions on anxiety- and depression-like behavior during aging, and the role of serotonin and serotonin 1A receptors in this process. Both 24-month-old (aged) and 6-month-old (adult) female rats were divided into five groups; aged control, adult control, aged + serotonin re-uptake inhibitors (SSRIs), aged + exercise, and aged + SSRIs + exercise. After exercise, all groups were evaluated using the open field arena, elevated plus maze and forced swim tests. We assessed serum corticosterone levels; number of amygdala, hippocampus and prefrontal cortex cells; tissue serotonin and serotonin 1A (5-HT1A) levels. In the open field test, aged rats exhibited a significant increase in locomotor activity compared to the SSRIs and SSRIs + exercise groups. During the elevated plus maze test, aged rats were observed less frequently in the open arms of assembly compared to adults. The duration increased in the exercise group and remained unchanged in the SSRIs group. In the forced swim test, the aged rats were more immobile compared to adults; no change was observed in the immobility time between these groups. The tissue serotonin levels in amygdala and hippocampus were higher in SSRIs + exercise group compared to the aged, exercised and SSRIs groups. The number of cells in the hippocampus, prefrontal cortex and amygdala decreased in the aged group compared to adult rats; increased numbers of cell were observed in exercise, SSRIs and SSRIs + exercise groups compared to aged rats. Exercise in multiple sessions may increase the number of cells in the hippocampus, prefrontal cortex and amygdala, which may reduce senile anxiety and depression. Background: To evaluate the relationship between IL-1α -889C/T (rs1800587), IL-1β -511C > T (rs16944), TNFα -308G > A (rs1800629), TNFα -238G > A (rs361525), IL-6 -174G > C (rs1800795), and IL-6 -572G > C (rs1800796) polymorphisms and the susceptibility to transposition of the great arteries (TGA)., Methods: A prospective analysis was performed on mothers whose newborns were diagnosed as having TGA. For each case of TGA, a mother who gave birth to a healthy neonate in the same period was randomly selected for the control group. The sample size was calculated before planning the study with 80% power and 5% alpha., Results: Twenty-seven mothers whose newborn had TGA anomalies (group 1) and 27 mothers whose newborn had no TGA (group 2) were included in the study. There were no significant differences between the groups in terms of maternal age, pregestational body mass index, gestational age at birth and infant sex (p > 0.05). The positive effects of both ketogenic diet (KD) and regular voluntary exercise on anxiety and depression behavior have been recently reported in rodent animals, but the effects of pairing a KD with exercise on depression and anxiety are unknown. In this study, we aimed to investigate the effects of combination of KD and regular voluntary exercise on anxiety and depression-like behavior in Balb/c mice. We've demostrated that anxiety and depression levels decreased in KD-exercised (KD-Ex) mice. β-hydroxybutyrate (BHB) levels increased while glucose, insulin levels and LDL/HDL ratio decreased in KD-Ex mice. There was a negative correlation between BHB and the time spent in the closed arms of elevated plus maze (EPM) or the time spent in periphery walls of open field test (OFT) and the immobility time in forced swim test (FST) which all of them are indicators of low depression and anxiety levels. There was a positive correlation between LDL/HDL ratio and the time spent in the closed arms of EPM or the immobility time in FST. The immobility time in FST was positively correlated with insulin while the mobility time in FST was negatively correlated with glucose. In conclusion, these results suggest that decline in anxiety and depression-like behaviors resulted from KD with regular voluntary exercise may be associated with increased BHB levels and decreased LDL/HDL ratio and insulin or glucose levels. Acetaminophen is one of the most widely used over‑the‑counter drugs worldwide for the treatment of pain and fever. Although acetaminophen use is known to impair hippocampus‑related learning and memory, its effect on anxiety is not clear. Insulin‑like growth factor‑1 (IGF‑1) and matrix metalloproteinase‑2 (MMP2) are important for cellular survival, maintenance and tissue integrity. The aim of this study was to investigate the dose‑dependent effects of acetaminophen on anxiety levels as well as on hippocampus, prefrontal cortex and liver tissue. Doses of 100, 200 and 400 mg/kg acetaminophen were administered to male Sprague Dawley rats for 11 days and anxiety tests were conducted on the last day. Twenty‑four hours after the last acetaminophen administration, all animals were sacrificed and hippocampus, prefrontal cortex and liver tissues were removed for analyses. Hippocampal IGF‑1 and MMP2 levels were shown to decrease only at the highest dose of acetaminophen, which was accompanied by pathological changes in histology. The prefrontal cortex was not affected. Behavioral analyses also did not indicate changes in anxiety levels in the rats. Liver IGF‑1 and MMP2 levels decreased in all experimental groups. Serum alanine aminotransferase and aspartate aminotransferase levels increased in the 200 mg/kg and 400 mg/kg acetaminophen groups. Our findings showed that varying doses of acetaminophen did not affect the prefrontal cortex or anxiety levels. Further research is needed to elucidate the hippocampal and hepatic protective roles of IGF‑1 and MMP2 in acetaminophen toxicity and their potential use in therapeutic approaches.

It is clearly known that psychological stress is an important threat to health in today's modern societies. Recent studies have shown that acute stress causes an increase in positive social behaviours such as prosocial behaviour and devotion which are components of empathic behaviour. Neuropsychiatric manifestations such as anxiety and depression may affect empathic behaviour. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of chronic restraint stress on empathy-like behaviour and the histopathological changes in the amygdala, prefrontal cortex in the adrenal glands and thymus, as well as the neurochemical pathways associated with empathy, oxytocin and vasopressin. The chronic stress group was subjected to restraint stress daily for 14 days after all subjects were trained to rescue its stressed cagemate using empathy test equipment for 12 days. It was observed that chronic restraint stress had no effect on empathy-like behaviour in rats. Vasopressin levels in amygdala was increased in chronic stress group compared to control group. Anxiety and depression indicators did not change in both groups. In the open field test, control group spent more time in thigmo zone compared to chronic stress group. Adrenal glands relative weights and apoptotic cell ratios were significantly higher in the chronic stress group compared to the control group (expectedly). Although there was no significant difference in behavioral tests, histopathological changes were detected. Paroxetine is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) used in the treatment of depression and anxiety disorders. In some epidemiological studies, slightly increased risks of major malformations and cardiac malformations have been reported following paroxetine exposure in the first trimester of pregnancy. However, such findings have been inconsistent. There is only one report of any overdose of an SSRI during pregnancy, and that involved escitalopram. The aim of this case report was to describe the impact of a paroxetine overdose in the first trimester of pregnancy on the health of the foetus. A 21-year-old mother of one child who was pregnant with a second child was prescribed 20 mg/day paroxetine hydrochloride for the treatment of anxiety/depression. The patient ingested 15 or 16 20-mg tablets of paroxetine hydrochloride (300-320 mg) during the 5th week of pregnancy as a suicide attempt. Within 15 min of ingestion, she was admitted to hospital and treated for intoxication. No evidence of maternal SSRI intoxication was observed after treatment. The patient consulted our teratology information service for further risk assessment regarding possible major congenital malformations following the paroxetine overdose. We were unable to find previous reports of paroxetine overdose during pregnancy in the literature. The timely administration of the overdose treatment and the lack of maternal intoxication symptoms were considered positive for the foetal well-being, and the patient was referred for perinatology and psychiatry follow-ups. A healthy, 3 500-g male infant was born at 38 weeks' gestation, and his development at the age of 2 years was normal. This is the first reported case of paroxetine overdose during pregnancy. Comprehensive studies are needed to evaluate pregnancy outcomes after SSRI overdose.Key PointsThere are no reported data on paroxetine overdose during pregnancy.The aim of this case report was to describe the impact of a maternal paroxetine overdose in the first trimester of pregnancy on the health of the foetus. Introduction: The opinion that latent Toxoplasma gondii infection is having a broadly asymptomatic projection has now been interrogated, in specific due to the echoed association between the latent infection and an elevated incidence of schizophrenia or even suicide attempts. Notwithstanding conducted studies aimed to understand this feasible link are restricted., Methods: In the present case-control study, we focused to illuminate the relationship between the serological and molecular presence of T gondii and schizophrenia with or without the suicide attempts by comparing it with healthy individuals. A total of 237 participants (117 in schizophrenia and 120 in healthy control) were included in this study., Results: Overall, latent T gondii infections were found statistically higher in 63 (53.8%) of the 117 patients with schizophrenia and in 33 (27.5%) of the 120 controls (P < .001). In schizophrenia patients, seroprevalence T gondii was again found to be statistically higher in suicide attempters (59.6%), compared with no history of suicide attempts (48.3%; P < .05). The molecular positivity rate of T gondii DNA was higher in the schizophrenia group, compared with the healthy control group (P < .05), whereas the history of suicide attempts was not statistically associated (P = .831) with T gondii DNA positivity by polymerase chain reaction., Conclusion: This case-control study enlightens additional demonstration to the belief that T gondii infection would be an underlying component for the pathophysiology of schizophrenia. Purpose: The present study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of a mobile-assisted empowerment program developed specifically for caregivers of cancer patients undergoing radiotherapy., Methods: In this study, seventy-four individuals who gave care for cancer patients that received radiotherapy between September 2019 and May 2020 were randomized to receive a mobile-assisted empowerment program or standard care. The mobile-assisted empowerment program comprised of education and information related to the radiotherapy process, videos, activities, and question-and-answer modules to support caregivers during the radiotherapy process. Outcome measures were collected at baseline (day 1 of radiotherapy) and on day 21 and included caregiver demographics, distress, quality of life, and coping style using validated questionnaires., Results: Compared with baseline, individuals' mean scores of distress were lower in the empowerment group than the control group (p < 0.001). General quality of life and sub-dimension mean scores were higher in the empowerment group than the control group (p ≤ 0.05). There was no difference in the coping style average scores (p ≥ 0.05) between the two groups., Conclusions: This study supports the findings that a mobile-supported empowerment program reduced the level of caregiver distress and increased quality of life during their loved one's treatment with radiotherapy.

Background: The education given in cancer process will contribute to better cope with the problems that may be experienced and to improve self-management skills, thus to the improvement in the quality of life., Aim/objectives: This study aimed to determine the effect of video-assisted education on the quality of life of women with breast cancer who received chemotherapy treatment for the first time., Design: The control group pre-test/post-test study design was used., Methods: The study was conducted with women who applied to Outpatient Chemotherapy Unit of a university hospital in Turkey between September 2016 and March 2017 and who received chemotherapy for the first time. The European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer Quality of Life Questionnaires namely EORTC QLQ-C30 and EORTC QLQ-BR23 were used to obtain the data., Results: In the education group patients in the fourth cycle of chemotherapy; a decrease in general well-being and a significant increase in dyspnoea, nausea, vomiting and loss of appetite were observed. In control group patients in the fourth cycle of chemotherapy, a decrease in general well-being, physical and role functions and a significant increase in nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, and fatigue. Breast symptoms and arm symptoms in the educational group patients decreased from the 1st to the 4th cycle., Conclusions: It has been determined that the application of visual material in patients with breast cancer in the education and counselling process is effective in improving the quality of life.
