Abstract

Multiple coronaviruses have emerged independently in the past 20 years that cause lethal human diseases. Although vaccine development targeting these viruses has been accelerated substantially, there remain patients requiring treatment who cannot be vaccinated or who experience breakthrough infections. Understanding the common host factors necessary for the life cycles of coronaviruses may reveal conserved therapeutic targets. Here, we used the known substrate specificities of mammalian protein kinases to deconvolute the sequence of phosphorylation events mediated by three host protein kinase families (SRPK, GSK-3, and CK1) that coordinately phosphorylate a cluster of serine and threonine residues in the viral N protein, which is required for viral replication. We also showed that loss or inhibition of SRPK1/2, which we propose initiates the N protein phosphorylation cascade, compromised the viral replication cycle. Because these phosphorylation sites are highly conserved across coronaviruses, inhibitors of these protein kinases not only may have therapeutic potential against COVID-19 but also may be broadly useful against coronavirus-mediated diseases.

Abstract

We study a linear stability of a resting state for flows of incompressible viscoelastic fluid in an infinite cylindrical channel under the influence of an external uniform magnetic field directed parallel to the cylinder axis (we use a generalized rheological Vinogradov–Pokrovski model as mathematical model) in a class of axisymmetric periodic along the axial variable flows. We establish that for some values of the parameters in the case of an absolute conductivity b m = 0 , the magnetic field can substantially lessen the real part of an exponent for perturbations of the radial velocity component, which is the main element of the instability development. For general case b m ≠ 0 , we justify the possibility of removing the instability based on the performed calculations. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

We study the linear stability of a resting state for a generalization of the basic rheological Pokrovski–Vinogradov model for flows of solutions and melts of an incompressible viscoelastic polymeric medium to the nonisothermal case under the influence of magnetic field. We prove that the corresponding linearized problem describing magnetohydrodynamic flows of polymers in an infinite plane channel has the following property: for certain values of the conduction current which is given on the electrodes, i.e. on the channel boundaries, the problem has solutions whose amplitude grows exponentially (in the class of functions periodic along the channel). Abstract

In this book, the authors study the classical problem of a steady-state supersonic flow of an inviscid non-heat-conductive gas around an infinite plane wedge. As is known, if the vertex angle is sufficiently small, then from the theoretical point of view, the problem has two discontinuous solutions, one of which is associated with a strong shock wave (the gas velocity behind the shock wave is less than the sound speed) and the second one corresponds to the weak shock wave (the gas velocity behind the shock wave is, in general, larger than the sound speed). Justification of the Courant-Friedrichs conjecture at the linear level is discussed. The authors hope that this book will be useful for specialists in gas dynamics and in applied mathematics as well.

Abstract

We study the classical problem for a flow of uniform inviscid non-heat-conducting gas in thermodynamical equilibrium moving onto a planar infinite wedge. As it is known, theoretically this problem has solutions of two types. Solutions of the first type correspond to a strong shock when the gas velocity behind the shock front is less than the sound speed whereas solutions of the second type correspond to the case of a weak shock when the gas velocity behind the shock front is greater than the sound speed. The shock fronts are attached to the wedge vertex. We consider the linear problem for a strong shock wave provided that the Lopatinski condition holds (in a weak sense) on the shock front and the initial data are compactly, i.e. supports of the initial data are separated from the coordinate axes. Under some additional conditions on the initial data we find a solution of the generalized problem. In contrast to the previously studied case when the uniform Lopatinski condition holds on the shock front, this solution contains plane waves. The stability of the found solution is thus justified on the linear level what gives a principle possibility to realize the flow regime containing a strong shock as time increases. Abstract

In data taken with the NA48 experiment at the CERN SPS in 1999, 730 candidates of the weak radiative hyperon decay $\Xi^{0} \to \Lambda\gamma$ have been found with an estimated background of $58 \pm 8$ events. From these events the $\Xi^{0} \to \Lambda\gamma$ decay asymmetry has been determined to $\alpha(\Xi^{0} \to \Lambda\gamma) = -0.78 \pm 0.18_{stat} \pm 0.06_{syst}$, which is the first evidence of a decay asymmetry in $\Xi^{0} \to \Lambda\gamma$. The branching fraction of the decay has been measured to be $Br(\Xi^{0} \to \Lambda\gamma) = (1.16 \pm 0.05_{stat} \pm 0.06_{syst}) \times 10^{-3}$.

Abstract

A search for the decay $K_{S} \to \pi^{0} \gamma\gamma$ has been made using the NA48 detector at the CERN SPS. Using data collected in 1999 during a 40-hour run with a high-intensity $K_{S}$ beam, an upper limit for the branching ratio $BR(K_{S} \to \pi^{0} \gamma\gamma, z \geq 0.2) < 3.3 \times 10^{-7}$ has been obtained at 90% confidence level, where $z = m_{\gamma\gamma}^{2}/m_{K_{0}}^{2}$.
