Abstract We investigated the effectiveness of exome sequencing (ES) in diagnosing ethnically diverse patients with rare genetic disorders. A total of 18,994 patients referred to a single reference laboratory for ES between 2020 and 2022 were studied for the diagnostic rate and factors influencing the diagnostic rate. The overall diagnostic rate was 31.8%. Dermatological disorders, skeletal disorders, and neurodevelopmental disorders disease categories, early age-of-onset, presence of consanguinity, and the presence of parental sequencing data were found to be correlated with a higher diagnostic rate. Nearly 68K variants were identified in our dataset at a higher frequency than that observed in gnomAD 4.0. Of these, 507 variants could be classified as likely benign, representing 0.04% of non-benign variants in ClinVar (507/1,433,904) and 0.20% of the non-benign ClinVar variants observed at least once in our cohort (507/276,777). The overall diagnostic rate is comparable to that observed in other large cohort studies with less diverse ethnic backgrounds.

This study examined the moderated mediating effect of teacher efficacy and resilience on the relationship between early childhood teachers' job satisfaction and teacher-child interactions. A survey was conducted on 409 early childhood teachers in Korea, and the collected data were analyzed using R 4.2.0 and the R version of PROCESSmacro 4.3. The results are as follows: first, early childhood teachers' job satisfaction had a positive effect on teacher efficacy and teacher-child interactions, and teacher efficacy had a positive effect on teacher-child interactions. Second, teacher efficacy had a positive mediating effect on the relationship between job satisfaction and teacher-child interactions. Third, resilience had a buffering moderating effect on the impact of job satisfaction on teacher efficacy. Lastly, the mediating effect of teacher efficacy on the relationship between early childhood teachers' job satisfaction and teacher-child interactions showed conditional effects depending on resilience. These results suggest the need to support the resilience of early childhood teachers as a part of their professionalism to connect the healthy professional life of early childhood teachers with the healthy growth of children. This study explores the representation of female athletes cast in a South Korean reality show titled Sporty Sisters (Korean title: Nonun Unni). Though there have been attempts to understand the media representation of female athletes from diverse media landscapes, the analysis of Asian female athletes is limited. Such interpretations have been discussed through geopolitical relations or nationalistic representations, which lack in-depth understanding and exploration of Asian athletes. Therefore, this paper expands the narrative by analyzing the first season (54 episodes) of Sporty Sisters. It is observed that professional athletes who transition to the entertainment industry are identified as "spor-tainers" and implicitly follow norms and rules applied to public figures. In this reality show, female athletes express their opinions on marriage, menstruation, pregnancy, and domestic roles while displaying characteristics of a girl crush, manifesting a variety of the female attributes of sportswomen. Despite the social expectations to fulfill their roles as sports celebrities and Korean women, Sporty Sisters is an outlet for female athletes to an extent to freely expose and describe their experiences as athletes and individuals. Objectives: This study examined the impact of media coverage on the public perceptions of undocumented migrant children in South Korea, highlighting their societal exclusion due to their undocumented status. Thise research explores how media shapes the awareness of these vulnerable minors, which is crucial for both their development and societal progress. Methods: We analyzed 302 articles from BIGKinds, a news service of the Korea Press Foundation, published from 1990 to 2023. These articles contained terms related to ‘undocumented migrant children,’ totaling 69,278 keywords. The analysis was conducted using R 4.3.1 with packages such as wordcloud2 and ggplot2 to assess keyword frequency and trends over the decades. Results: From the analysis, 69,240 keywords were identified, with the most common being “children, arrest, parents, foreigner, illegal, resident, rights, protection, birth, offspring, support, school”. Media trends have evolved, with an overall increase in coverage, particularly during significant societal events. Conclusion: Media portrayals have shifted from viewing these children merely as dependents of foreign workers to recognizing them as individuals. Residency remained a persistent theme, highlighting it as an unresolved issue. Objectives: This research investigates how mother-child interactions mediate the effect of employed mothers' work-family balance on their children's excessive smartphone use. The study aims to provide insights for developing support for working mothers and their children. Methods: A questionnaire was distributed to employed mothers with children in kindergartens and daycare centers in Seoul and Gyeonggi, yielding 221 valid responses. SPSS 26.0 and Mplus 7.4 were used for analysis, including frequency analysis, descriptive statistics, confirmatory factor analysis, and a mixed structural equation model, with significance at α = .05 and a 95% confidence interval. Results: The study found that a positive work-family balance enhances mother-child interaction, which in turn reduces children's smartphone overdependence. Conversely, work-family conflict increases this dependence, but is mitigated by mother-child interaction. The study delineates the relationships among work-family balance, interaction, and smartphone dependence in children. Conclusion: The interaction between working mothers and their children significantly influences children's smartphone overdependence. Thus, it's crucial to support employed mothers through educational strategies and programs promoting quality interactions with children, balancing work and family roles. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
