Fotografie historyczne stanowią doskonały materiał źródłowy, który groma­dzą i przechowują wszystkie archiwa. Tematem publikacji jest zbiór fotografii w zasobie Archiwum Diecezjalnego w Zielonej Górze, które przechowuje nie tylko fotografie dokumentujące życie kościelne diecezji zielonogórsko-go­rzowskiej, ale gromadzi też te, które pochodzą od instytucji i osób świeckich. Celem opracowania jest ukazanie, jak ten zbiór powstawał (od 2003 r.). Publi­kację rozpoczyna opis powstania zielonogórskiego Archiwum Diecezjalnego, gdzie znajduje się omawiany zbiór fotografii. W dalszej części opracowania przedstawiono inwentaryzację dokumentacji fotograficznej oraz sposób prze­chowywania i udostępniania jej kwerendzistom. Na dzień 31 lipca 2021 r. zbiór fotografii (zespół nr 50) liczy 12 488 jednostek. Inwentarz elektroniczny fotografii znajduje się na stronie internetowej Archiwum Diecezjalnego w Zie­lonej Górze (http://archiwum.diecezjazg.pl). Gromadzona dokumentacja wi­zualna jest zbiorem otwartym, który uzupełniają kolejne dopływy fotografii. Zadaniem na przyszłość jest cyfryzacja zbioru. Opracowanie jest pierwszą pu­blikacją na temat fotografii w zasobie zielonogórskiego Archiwum Diecezjal­nego i stanowi przyczynek do podjęcia bardziej szczegółowych badań. Może być ono przydatne dla badaczy pracujących ze źródłami wizualnymi. Powinni do nich sięgać regionaliści, historycy Kościoła oraz osoby, których pasjonują dawne i nowe fotografie.

Roman Catholicism is most often imagined as an element of continuity in Poland's turbulent history: even when a Polish state was absent from the map of Europe from the late eighteenth through early twentieth centuries, a recognizably 'Polish' church has been presumed to provide a robust institutional anchor for the Polish nation. This article, however, argues that the creation of a 'Polish' Roman Catholic church was a belated and protracted process, one that was only getting started in the years following the achievement of Polish independence in 1918. The church's 'Polonization' was only partially a matter of emancipation from imperial-era restrictions. It often also involved the defence and attempted extrapolation of laws, practices and institutions that had developed under the auspices of the German, Austrian or Russian states and that the Catholic hierarchy viewed as healthy and desirable building blocks for a future Polish church. These imperial precedents continued to provide crucial points of reference in ongoing debates about what 'Polish' Catholicism was and what it should become. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In an effort to preserve an accurate reflection on its past, all institutions must be prepared to maintain the integrity of their archival resources. The following article shall trace the formation of the church archives in Poland by considering the various sources of their documents, the people collecting them, and the problems particular to their situation. To that end, what constitutes an ecclesiastical document will also be defined. In order to sketch a complete picture, a detailed history of the formation of the Society of Church Archivists (SAK being the Polish acronym) and an account of its activities will be thoroughly set down, along with the professional recognition that it has obtained from other institutions.
