Abstract Background Large-scale renewable energy projects are increasingly being rolled out across rural Kenya, with the government playing a frontline role in attracting energy investors through various state-led and state-centric policies and investment incentives such as feed-in-tariffs and power purchase agreements. While these policies are commendable, and are indeed attracting many private investors, existing studies document how social and environmental justice concerns are often overlooked—sometimes causing local contestations against energy projects. However, to date, there has been less attention given to cases where procedural justice elements (e.g., access to information, access to meaningful participation, access to justice, and respect for local culture) led to a successful land negotiation for energy development without outright conflict. Using a case study in Kenya, this article aims to bridge this gap by showing how a fair application of various elements of procedural justice in land consultation has facilitated the establishment of the Kipeto wind farm. This qualitative research is based on semi-structured interviews that took place from February to March 2023, with a follow-up visit in December the same year, supplemented with review of secondary data sources. Results The results indicate that for energy projects to be accommodated in and by communities, access to land must be properly negotiated, particularly with the actual landowners whose livelihoods are most likely to be implicated by the project. Second, local people’s perception of what they regard as a ‘just’ or ‘fair’ process of land consultation constitutes the basis for their acquiescence and compliance. Conclusion Ensuring a ‘just’ procedure in land consultation with the actual landowners is a key strategy to avoid conflicts. Land investors, governments, and policy-makers who interface and negotiate with communities must ensure the provision of procedural justice, particularly in contexts where local livelihood is tied to land and where land is individually owned. Although the findings suggest a positive case of wind energy development in Kenya, the project is barely 4 years old; things may change overtime if agreed conditions are not met as specified in the MoU. Therefore, additional follow-up research is needed to ascertain the extent to which both KEL and landowners live up to their promises.

Abstract The main purpose of this research is to analyze techno-productive experiences within the framework of renewable energy projects based on the use and exploitation of solar energy in a region defined by favorable bioclimatic conditions. Following a primarily qualitative method, the research has been based on four case studies of working groups and their experiences. Stakeholders from diverse origin and background, interested in developing their technologies (processes, inputs, components, equipment) for the use of solar energy have managed to enhance the links among such developments, the productive sector and the communities in the territorial area where they carry out their activities. As a possible path of sociotechnical transition, these specific processes materialize energy transition with the progressive change of production and consumption patterns in favor of climate action.

With the increasing scarcity of conventional energy and environmental degradation, countries around the world are increasing their investment in renewable energy development. In order to make a scientific investment evaluation of renewable energy projects, this paper examines the analysis and control of their financial data. The intelligent analysis system of financial data is constructed based on OLAP. Logistic regression model and decision tree algorithm model are selected as the operation algorithm of the system to complete the intelligent analysis of data. Combining random forest algorithm and autoregressive moving average model, under the guidance of Bagging idea, the financial status of renewable energy projects after investment is judged in order to achieve the purpose of dynamic control. According to the results of analysis and control of financial data of renewable energy projects, it is known that the correct probability of intelligent analysis of financial data reached 94.5%, 83.1%, and 92.7% for different sample sizes of data sets, respectively. There were significant improvements in the efficiency of capital usage and asset quality, with an increase in capital concentration of 30.42%, an increase in inventory turnover from 10.68% to 13.04%, and an increase in the recovery rate of overdue accounts receivable from 60.31% to 67.83%. It has been proven that the method can help investors to better utilize uncertainty to improve the investment value of project, providing investors with a new way of thinking about decision-making.

The main aim of this paper is to analyse the most important challenges of Chinese investments in renewable energy projects in Central and East European countries. The focus ofresearch is on challenges within the ChinaCentral and Eastern European countries cooperation framework because theoretical and empirical research is mainly oriented towards traditional energy projects. The analysed period spans from 2014 until 2022. With 26 active or completed projects out of the 29 proposed projects in the renewable energy field, the cooperation has been positive so far, but with modest outcomes. The investors in this field were both Chinese state-owned and private companies, while most of the projects were realised through investments and not loans. The main challenges within China-Central and East European countries renewable energy cooperation were political issues, public policies and strategies of national governments, corruption, finances, and legal issues.

Abstract The rapid expansion of renewable energy has attracted the attention of investors, which makes the evaluation of renewable energy projects a momentous issue. As the investment selection of renewable energy projects requires the joint discussion of experts from different professional backgrounds (such as energy, transportation, construction, economy, environment, etc.), it belongs to the category of large group decision-making (LGDM). Therefore, this paper is devoted to propose a novel LGDM method considering experts’ non-cooperative behavior for investment selection of renewable energy projects. First, considering that the complexity of renewable energy projects makes it difficult for experts to express their views in a single linguistic word, the hesitant fuzzy linguistic term set is used as the tool for expert evaluation in this paper. Second, since the assessment information provided by experts from different fields are often heterogeneous, a consensus-reaching process with a feedback mechanism is introduced which comprehensively considers three reliable sources: the experts’ trust relationship in the social trust network, the consensus contribution in the subgroup and the opinions’ similarity among experts. Further, to improve the efficiency and rationality of decision-making, an experts’ historical adjustment data-based non-cooperative behavior management method is proposed. Finally, the effectiveness and innovation of the proposed method are verified by a case of renewable energy power generation project investment selection in Qingdao, China and a series of comparative analysis.

As a fossil fuel-dependent nation, Kazakhstan is caught between issues and possibilities in its search for a sustainable energy transition. Despite its tremendous resources, Kazakhstan’s renewable energy capacity is 1%, much behind its non-renewable peers. According to this research, green fiscal policies in renewable energy firms are needed to reduce the country’s political and economic dependence on the global oil sector. This report emphasizes regional collaboration and Kazakh-stan’s potential leadership in Central Asian Green Economy projects. Kazakhstan can promote renewable energy adoption and economic sustainability by forming regional alliances.
