High primary stability makes immediate loading more predictable, but immediately loaded implants are subjected to higher stresses and strains during the healing phase than implants that are left to heal for 3 months. Whether an earlier sensory-motor phenomenon with an immediate loading protocol helps to reduce the risk of overloading at the implant-bone interface is unclear. The purpose of this concurrent parallel design clinical study was to evaluate and compare active tactile sensibility for a single-tooth implant opposing a natural tooth in the mandibular posterior region with either a delayed or immediate functional loading -protocol. In this parallel group randomized trial, 2 test groups were formed: the DL group comprised 20 participants with the delayed loading protocol (loading after 3 months), and the IL group comprised 20 participants with the immediate loading protocol (loading within 2 days). Natural tooth-to-tooth contact on the side contralateral to the implant site (split mouth) in both test groups was used as a control to evaluate active tactile sensibility, which was evaluated in the test and control sites of both groups by using interocclusal articulating foils of varying thickness in maximum intercuspation. Active tactile sensibility was compared between the DL and IL groups at 3 and 6 months of follow-up. The nonparametric Mann-Whitney test was used for intergroup comparisons (P =.05). A significant difference was found for 8-μm- and 12-μm-thick articulating foil at 3 months and for 8-μm-thick foil at 6 months (P <.05), indicating a difference in active tactile sensibility between the DL and IL groups. No implant failure was recorded in this short clinical study. An immediate loading protocol can be performed in implants with sufficient primary stability. Introduction: The aerosols produced by an ultrasonic scaler contain bacteria that may enter the respiratory systems of both dental surgeons and patients. Lemongrass oil is one of the essential oils with enormous antibacterial, antifungal, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antipyretic effects. Aim: To evaluate and compare the efficacy of commercially available preprocedural mouth rinses, containing 0.2% lemongrass oil mouthwash and a 0.2% chlorhexidine gluconate solution, in reducing the levels of viable bacteria in aerosols. Materials and Methods: This single-centre double-blinded randomised controlled parallel design split-mouth clinical trial was planned among patients in the Department of Periodontics attending Vishnu Dental College and Hospital in Bhimavaram, Andhra Pradesh, India. The study was conducted for 40 days, from August 2022 to October 2022. Two distinct types of preprocedural mouth rinses (lemongrass oil and chlorhexidine) were used on 56 participants with Stage II or III and Grade B periodontitis. A total of 56 subjects were randomly assigned to two groups: Group A (0.2% lemongrass oil) and Group B (0.2% chlorhexidine), using a simple coin toss method. Colony-forming units (CFUs) with and without rinsing in each group were assessed and studied. CFUs collected on blood agar plates were counted during ultrasonic scaling both with and without rinsing. International Business Machine (IBM) Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 20.0 was used for data analysis. Paired t-tests and independent t-tests were used for intragroup and intergroup comparisons for both groups. Results: The mean CFU count in the chlorhexidine group without rinsing was 259.6±26.6, and with rinsing, it was 140.7±22.6, which was statistically significant (p-value < 0.001). Between May 2023 and October 2023, patients undergoing elective painless gastrointestinal endoscopy were recruited and randomly allocated into one of the three groups. Demographic data, intraoperative information, incidence of dreaming, insufficient anesthesia and intraoperative awareness, type of dream, patient satisfaction score, adverse events, and improvement of sleep quality were collected.Results: The difference in incidence of dreaming among the three groups was not significant (33.33% vs 48.33% vs 41.67%, p=0.061). The number of patients with intraoperative hypotension in the propofol group was larger than that of the remimazolam group (32 vs 12, p=0.001). However, the cases of intraoperative hypotension between propofol group and ciprofol group or ciprofol group and remimazolam group were comparable (32 vs 22, p=0.122; 22 vs 12, p=0.064). The percentage of insufficient anesthesia between propofol group and remimazolam group was significant (13.33% vs 1.67%, p=0.001), while no statistical difference was detected between propofol group and remimazolam group or ciprofol group and remimazolam group (13.33% vs 5.00%, p=0.025; 5.00% vs 1.67%, p=0.150). The ability of propofol to improve sleep quality at 1st post-examination day was significantly better than that of remimazolam (86.21% vs 72.88%, p=0.015), while it was not significant between propofol group and ciprofol group or ciprofol group and remimazolam group (86.21% vs 80.36%, p=0.236; 72.88% vs. 72.88%, p=0.181). Incidence of intraoperative awareness, intraoperative hypoxia, type of dream, satisfaction score, adverse events during recovery, and sleep improvement on the 7th post-examination day was not significant among the groups.Conclusion: Anesthesia with propofol, ciprofol and remimazolam, respectively, for gastrointestinal endoscopy did not induce statistical difference in the incidence of dreaming, despite that all of them are more likely to induce pleasant dreams.Keywords: propofol, ciprofol, remimazolam, endoscopic sedation, dreaming

Abstract Background Dreaming sometimes occurs during sedation. It has been reported that factors such as different anesthetics, depth of anesthesia, age, sex, and preoperative psychological state may affect dreams. Ciprofol and remimazolam are novel choices for painless endoscopy. Herein, we aimed to investigate dreaming during gastrointestinal endoscopy under propofol, ciprofol, and remimazolam anesthesia respectively. Methods This is a prospective, parallel-design double-blind, single-center clinical trial. Three hundred and sixty subjects undergoing elective painless gastroscopy, colonoscopy, or gastroenteroscopy will be enrolled. Eligible subjects will undergo propofol-, ciprofol-, or remimazolam-induced anesthesia to finish the examination. Interviews about the modified Brice questionnaire will be conducted in the recovery room. Incidence of dreaming is set as the primary outcome. Secondary outcomes include type of dreams, improvement of sleep quality, evaluation of patients, incidence of insufficient anesthesia, and intraoperative awareness. Safety outcomes are the incidences of hypotension and hypoxia during examination and adverse events during recovery. Discussion This study may observe different incidences of dreaming and diverse types of dreams, which might lead to different evaluations to the anesthesia procedure. Based on the coming results, anesthesiologists can make a better medication plan for patients who are going to undergo painless diagnosis and treatment. The prevalence and severity of overactive bladder increase with age, and mirabegron is an approved treatment for this condition. This meta-analysis systematically evaluated the efficacy and safety of mirabegron compared with placebo for overactive bladder treatment. We searched PubMed and the Cochrane Library (30 October 2023) for relevant articles (source: MEDLINE, EMBASE, ClinicalTrials.gov, ICTRP, CINAHL). We included randomized controlled trials involving adults with overactive bladder syndrome that compared mirabegron with placebo treatment. Data were analyzed according to the Cochrane Handbook for Systematic Reviews of Interventions [Review Manager (computer program) Version 5.4]. Nine parallel-group trials (10 articles) were included. The evaluation included a total of 8,527 adults, including 6,445 women and 2,082 men, of whom 5,726 were White, 2,462 were Asian, and 161 were Black. The mean age of the participants ranged from 53.4 to 60.3 years. This evaluation involved three specifications of mirabegron: 25 mg, 50 mg, and 100 mg. In all trials, patients were enrolled in a 12-week double-blind treatment period, and the dose was once daily. The review of trials found that on average, people taking mirabegron had about 13 ml more volume voided per micturition, five fewer micturitions, and four fewer incontinence episodes every week, with moderate improvements in quality of life. About one in five people taking the drug reported TRAEs. Mirabegron treatment is well tolerated, with the risk of adverse events similar to that of a placebo. For best results, a dose of 50 mg once daily is recommended for long-term use. Abstract Background Alzheimer's disease is a common neurodegenerative disorder in elderly with progressive decline in cognitive functions. This study aimed to investigate the possible memory‐improving effects of Olibanum on patients with Alzheimer's disease. Research Design and Method This double‐blind, randomized clinical trial was carried out on 72 participants aged 50–75 years. The intervention group (n = 36) received 1.6 g/day of olibanum chewing gum for 18 weeks. The placebo group (n = 36) received chewing gum without olibanum. Neuropsychological assessments were performed at baseline, every 4 weeks, and after 18 weeks of the intervention. Results There was no significant difference between (MD: 0.84, 95%CI: −1.10 to 2.78, p = 0.392) at baseline. Both groups had linear improvements over time. There was no significant difference between two groups regarding the improvements after the intervention (F = 0.157, p = 0.693). There were no significant differences between the groups for MMSE score (Mini‐Mental State Examination) after the intervention (F = 0.141, p = 0.708). Conclusions This study revealed that 18 weeks of gum chewing with Olibanum did not change the neuropsychological status. More clinical studies are needed to confirm these findings.

Tlie objective of this study was to evaluate the effectof different interdental oral cleaning modalities on gingivitis and plague following a 6-week period of home use. This was a randomized, four-arm, parallel design clinical trial. Study subjects were manual toothbrush (MTB) users with moderate to severe gingivitis, aged 18 to 65 years. Subjects were required at baseline to have a gingival bleeding score of -1 on at least 50 gingival sites per the Gingival Bleeding I ndex (GBI) and to have an overall plague score of 20.6 per the Rustogi Modified Navy Plague Index (RMNPI) following a 3- to 6-hour plague accumulation period. Subjects were randomly assigned to use one offouroral caircleaning niodalities: (1) NON group: MTB alone, (2) FLS group: MTB plus string floss, (3) IDB group: MTB plus an interdental brush, or (4) CPF group: MTB plus the Philips Sonicare Cordless Power Flosser with the Quad Stream nozzle. Efficacy measures (Modified Gingival Index [MGIl, GBI, and RMNPI) and safety were assessed at baseline. 2 weeks, and 6 weeks. The primary efficacy endpoint was the reduction in gingival inflammation from baseline to week 6 as ineasilred by the MG L Of the 372 subjects r:indomized in the study, 364 completed a post-baseline MGI evaluation and were included in the analyses. Introduction The growth and complexity of diabetes are exceeding the capacity of family physicians, resulting in the demand for community-based, interprofessional, primary care-led transition clinics. The Primary Care Diabetes Support Programme (PCDSP) in London, Ontario, is an innovative approach to diabetes care for high-risk populations, such as medically or socially complex and unattached patients. In this study, we will employ a quadruple-aim approach to evaluate the health system impacts of the PCDSP.Methods and analysis We will use multiple methods through a convergent parallel design in this project across five unique studies: a case study, a patient study, a provider study, a complications study and a cost-effectiveness study. The project will be conducted in a dedicated stand-alone clinic specialising in chronic disease management, specifically focusing on diabetes care. Participants will include clinic staff, administrators, family physicians, specialists and patients with type 1 or type 2 diabetes who received care at the clinic between 2011 and 2023. The project design will define the intervention, support replication at other sites or for other chronic diseases and address each of the quadruple aims and equity. Following the execution of the five individual studies, we will build a business case by integrating the results. Data will be analysed using both qualitative (content analysis and thematic analysis) and quantitative techniques (descriptive statistics and multiple logistic regression).Ethics and dissemination We received approval from the research ethics boards at Western University (reference ID: 2023–1 21 766; 2023–1 22 326) and Lawson Health Research Institute (reference ID: R-23–202). A privacy review was completed by St. Joseph’s Healthcare Corporation. The findings will be shared among PCDSP staff and patients, stakeholders, academic researchers and the public through stakeholder sessions, conferences, peer-reviewed publications, infographics, posters, media interviews, social media and online discussions. For the patient and provider study, all participants will be asked to provide consent and are free to withdraw from the study, without penalty, until the data are combined. Participants will not be identified in any report or presentation except in the case study, for which, given the number of PCDSP providers, we will seek explicit consent to identify them.

Background and aim: Oral mucositis occurs in almost 90% of Head and Neck cancer patients receiving radiotherapy. Zinc L carnosine, the chelation of zinc with carnosine, is beneficial for oral mucosal ulcers due to its antioxidant properties. It also causes increased mucous production, which helps repair the injury. The pain in oral mucositis can be addressed with the help of a local anesthetic agent, lignocaine hydrochloride. The objective was to study the efficacy of ZINOBLISS (Zinc Carnosine 2% and lignocaine HCl 2%) for managing oral mucositis and stomatitis.Material and methods: It was an open-label, multicentric, parallel-group interventional clinical trial. The total number of patients included in the study was 45 (each group was 15). Arm 1 included topical administration of Zinobliss (Zinc Carnosine 2% and Lignocaine HCl 2% Gel) thrice daily for ten days or until healing, whichever was earlier. Similarly, Arm 2 and Arm 3 included topical administration of Hexigel (Chlorhexidine Gluconate Gel) and Zytee- L (Gel containing Choline Salicylate, Lignocaine Hydrochloride, and Benzalkonium Chloride solution), respectively, thrice daily for ten days or until healing whichever was earlier.Results: The accelerated healing response in subjects treated with Zinobliss by day 4, compared to Hexigel and Zytee L, took 7 to 10 days. Zinobliss treatment did not necessitate any modifications to the subject's diet plans.Conclusions: Zinobliss is a highly effective and well-tolerated treatment option for oral mucositis and stomatitis.

Background This study investigates the long-term efficacy and safety of evogliptin add-on therapy in patients with inadequately controlled type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) previously received dapagliflozin and metformin (DAPA/MET) combination. Methods In this multicenter randomized placebo-controlled phase 3 trial, patients with glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c) levels 7.0% to 10.5% (n=283) previously used DAPA 10 mg plus MET (≥1,000 mg) were randomly assigned to the evogliptin 5 mg once daily or placebo group (1:1). The primary endpoint was the difference in the HbA1c level from baseline at week 24, and exploratory endpoints included the efficacy and safety of evogliptin over 52 weeks (trial registration: ClinicalTrials.gov NCT04170998). Results Evogliptin add-on to DAPA/MET therapy was superior in HbA1c reduction compared to placebo at weeks 24 and 52 (least square [LS] mean difference, –0.65% and –0.55%; 95% confidence interval [CI], –0.79 to –0.51 and –0.71 to –0.39; P

This was a randomized, parallel, examiner-blinded study. Study subjects were routine manual toothbrush (MTB) users with moderate to severe gingivitis. aged 18 to 65 years. Subjects were required to have a gingival bleeding score of 21 on at least 50 gingival sites per the Gingival Bleeding Index (GBI) and to have a minimum average plague score of 20.6 per the Rustogi Modified Navy Plague Index (RMNPI) following a 3- to 6-hour plague accumulation period. Subjects were randomly assigned to one of four groups based on tile oral care cleaning modality: (1) NON group: MTB alone, (2) FLS group: MTB plus string floss, (3) MPF group: MTB plus a Philips'" Sonicare' Power Flosser with the Quad Stieam nozzle, or (4) PPF group: Philips Sonicare power toothbrush plus the power flosser. Safety and efficacy measures (Modified Gingival Index [MGI], GBI, and RMNPI) were assessed at baseline, 2 weeks, and 6 weeks. The primary efficacy endpoint was the reduction in gingival inflammation from baseline to week 6 as measured by the MGI. A total of 260 subjects were randomized and 256 subjects completed the study. The adjusted mean percent reduction iii gingival intlammation from baseline to week 6 was 14.90% forthe NON group, 13.16% for the FLS group, 33.51% forthe MPFgroup, and 49.30% forthe PPF group. Pairwise comparisons indicated that both the PPF and MPF groups were statistically significantly different from both the NON and FLS groups. The adjusted mean percent reduction in gingival inflammation from baseline to week 4 was 2.80% for the NON group, 11.32% for tlie IDB group, and 20.87% for the MPF group. The differences between the MPF group and the NON and IDB groups were statistically significant (P < .0001). In conclusion, use of the MTB with the Philips Sonicare Power Flosser showed statistically significant benefits compared to an MTB alone and an MTB used with an interdental brush in reducing gingival inflammation following 4 weeks of home use. Objectives: The aim of the present study was to compare a novel tapered, double-threaded self-tapping tissue-Level design implant (TLC) to a well-established parallel walled tissue-level (TL) implant in terms of primary and secondary stability over time., Materials and Methods: Test TLC (n = 10/per timepoint) and control TL (n = 10/per timepoint) implants were placed in the mandible of minipigs and left for submerged healing for 3, 6, and 12 weeks. Maximum insertion torque and implant stability quotient (ISQ) were measured for each implant at placement. Osseointegration and cortical bone maintenance were histologically evaluated by measuring total bone-to-implant contact (BIC) and first bone-to-implant contact (fBIC)., Results: A significantly higher maximum insertion torque was measured for the test implant TLC compared to the control TL implant (57.83 ± 24.73 Ncm and 22.62 ± 23.16 Ncm, respectively; p < .001). The mean ISQ values were comparable between the two implant types (75.00 ± 6.70 for TL compared to 75.40 ± 3.20 for TLC, p = .988). BIC was comparable between both implant types at each of the evaluated time points. The fBIC was found to be significantly more coronal at 12 weeks for the TLC implant compared to the TL implant (0.31 ± 0.83 mm for TLC compared to -0.22 ± 0.85 for TL, p = .027)., Conclusion: The novel tapered tissue level design implant showed improved primary stability and an overall improved crestal bone height maintenance compared to the parallel walled design at 12 weeks., (© 2024 The Author(s). Introduction:  Conventional postoperative pain management, with an intravenous patient-controlled approach or thoracic epidural analgesia, has proved suboptimal following a minimally invasive repair of pectus excavatum. Considering its postulated mechanism of action, we encouraged cryoanalgesia as an effective method for postrepair pain management and a possibly superior alternative., Methods:  A randomized, single-blind clinical trial was tested on patients undergoing pectus excavatum (PE) repair in March and December 2022. Among 101 patients, consenting study participants were randomly assigned to one of two groups: cryoanalgesia (group C, n  = 24) or noncryoanalgesia (group N, n  = 24). Group N received conventional pain management. Comparing the results, pain levels were measured using the visual analog scale (VAS-R for resting and VAS-D for dynamic) and the total rescue analgesic consumption was determined. Intrathoracic cryoablation was performed bilaterally on the fourth and seventh intercostal nerves using a cryoprobe at -80°C for 2 minutes., Results:  The two groups had similar baseline-patient characteristics; however, group C had a longer mean operative time (159 vs. 125 minutes, p  < 0.01) and experienced significantly less pain throughout the postoperative course, with VAS at 6 hours (5.38 vs. 7.04, p  < 0.01) and 48 hours (3.17 vs. 5.67, p  < 0.01)., Conclusion:  Cryoanalgesia improved postoperative pain control at rest and during movement following PE repair. However, the outcome was less favorable than expected because the VAS was greater than 4 (moderate pain), although after a day or two, it decreased to lower levels (VAS < 4) in the cyro group. Parallel manufacturing is a new manufacturing form in industry, deeply integrating informalization, automation, and AI. In this paper we illustrated the procedure of non-standard mechanical design in parallel manufacturing, claiming it a nested parallel system. We proposed the ACP method based on the standard procedure and the emulated procedure, and defined the social-value-vector and trended-social-value-matrix so as to take the advantage of data in CPSS. We also presented Xinglun robot speed reducer as a case study of non-standard mechanical design in parallel design.

Introduction: The aerosols produced by an ultrasonic scaler contain bacteria that may enter the respiratory systems of both dental surgeons and patients. Lemongrass oil is one of the essential oils with enormous antibacterial, antifungal, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antipyretic effects. Aim: To evaluate and compare the efficacy of commercially available preprocedural mouth rinses, containing 0.2% lemongrass oil mouthwash and a 0.2% chlorhexidine gluconate solution, in reducing the levels of viable bacteria in aerosols. Materials and Methods: This single-centre double-blinded randomised controlled parallel design split-mouth clinical trial was planned among patients in the Department of Periodontics attending Vishnu Dental College and Hospital in Bhimavaram, Andhra Pradesh, India. The study was conducted for 40 days, from August 2022 to October 2022. Two distinct types of preprocedural mouth rinses (lemongrass oil and chlorhexidine) were used on 56 participants with Stage II or III and Grade B periodontitis. A total of 56 subjects were randomly assigned to two groups: Group A (0.2% lemongrass oil) and Group B (0.2% chlorhexidine), using a simple coin toss method. Colonyforming units (CFUs) with and without rinsing in each group were assessed and studied. CFUs collected on blood agar plates were counted during ultrasonic scaling both with and without rinsing. International Business Machine (IBM) Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 20.0 was used for data analysis. Paired t-tests and independent t-tests were used for intragroup and intergroup comparisons for both groups. Results: The mean CFU count in the chlorhexidine group without rinsing was 259.6±26.6, and with rinsing, it was 140.7±22.6, which was statistically significant (p-value < 0.001). In the lemongrass oil group, the CFU count without rinsing was 263.5±26.9, and with rinsing, it was 147.18±33.82, which was also statistically significant (p-value<0.001). In the intergroup comparison, the p-values for both groups-using preprocedural rinse (Group A vs. Group B for quadrants 2 and 3) and without preprocedural rinse (Group A vs. Group B for quadrants 1 and 4)-were 0.40 and 0.58, respectively, which were not significant. Conclusion: Both preprocedural mouth rinses were equally effective in reducing microbial counts in aerosols during ultrasonic scaling. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The purpose of this research is to examine the prospective elementary school teachers' perceptions on socioscientific issues. The research was conducted on prospective elementary school teachers studying at a university located in western Turkey. The researcher first taught the subjects of global warming and nuclear power plants from a perspective of socioscientific issues in the science and technology education course and then conducted the research. Concurrent parallel design, one of the mixed-method research approaches, was used to conduct the research. In this context, semi-structured interviews were conducted with eight teachers in the qualitative strand of the study to explore the phenomenon. The data obtained from the interviews were analyzed using thematic analysis. During the quantitative strand of the research, 113 prospective teachers were administered a questionnaire form. The results of the study revealed that none of the participating prospective teachers mentioned about the religious and cultural characteristics of socioscientific issues, and they need training about how to use socioscientific issues in teaching.

Introduction: The growth and complexity of diabetes are exceeding the capacity of family physicians, resulting in the demand for community-based, interprofessional, primary care-led transition clinics. The Primary Care Diabetes Support Programme (PCDSP) in London, Ontario, is an innovative approach to diabetes care for high-risk populations, such as medically or socially complex and unattached patients. In this study, we will employ a quadruple-aim approach to evaluate the health system impacts of the PCDSP., Methods and Analysis: We will use multiple methods through a convergent parallel design in this project across five unique studies: a case study, a patient study, a provider study, a complications study and a cost-effectiveness study. The project will be conducted in a dedicated stand-alone clinic specialising in chronic disease management, specifically focusing on diabetes care. Participants will include clinic staff, administrators, family physicians, specialists and patients with type 1 or type 2 diabetes who received care at the clinic between 2011 and 2023. The project design will define the intervention, support replication at other sites or for other chronic diseases and address each of the quadruple aims and equity. Following the execution of the five individual studies, we will build a business case by integrating the results. Data will be analysed using both qualitative (content analysis and thematic analysis) and quantitative techniques (descriptive statistics and multiple logistic regression)., Ethics and Dissemination: We received approval from the research ethics boards at Western University (reference ID: 2023-1 21 766; 2023-1 22 326) and Lawson Health Research Institute (reference ID: R-23-202). A privacy review was completed by St. Joseph's Healthcare Corporation. The findings will be shared among PCDSP staff and patients, stakeholders, academic researchers and the public through stakeholder sessions, conferences, peer-reviewed publications, infographics, posters, media interviews, social media and online discussions. For the patient and provider study, all participants will be asked to provide consent and are free to withdraw from the study, without penalty, until the data are combined. Community-supported agriculture (CSA) represents a collaborative model where local farms and community members form partnerships to facilitate the direct delivery of fresh produce from farms to consumers. This study primarily investigates the experiences of current CSA members, focusing on the key factors influencing their retention intentions. Employing a convergent parallel mixed methods approach, this study gathers and analyzes both quantitative data (such as factors affecting members' retention intentions) and qualitative data (derived from interviews reflecting members' perceptions of their CSA experiences). The integration of these datasets provides a comprehensive understanding of the factors that shape CSA membership dynamics. The research findings underscore that Convenience, Product Quality, and Positive Interactions are pivotal factors that contribute to members' Intentions to continue their CSA memberships. These insights are crucial for enhancing the services provided to CSA members and hold significant implications for the broader scope of CSA membership research. There is growing evidence linking gut microbiota to overall health, including obesity risk and associated diseases. Lactiplantibacillus plantarum SKO-001, a probiotic strain isolated from Angelica gigas , has been reported to reduce obesity by controlling the gut microbiome. In this double-blind, randomised clinical trial, we aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of SKO-001 in reducing body fat. We included 100 participants randomised into SKO-001 or placebo groups (1:1) for 12 weeks. Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry was used to objectively evaluate body fat reduction. Body fat percentage ( p = 0.016), body fat mass ( p = 0.02), low-density lipoprotein-cholesterol levels ( p = 0.025), and adiponectin levels ( p = 0.023) were lower in the SKO-001 group than in the placebo group after 12 weeks of SKO-001 consumption. In the SKO-001 group, the subcutaneous fat area ( p = 0.003), total cholesterol levels ( p = 0.003), and leptin levels ( p = 0.014) significantly decreased after 12 weeks of SKO-001 consumption compared with baseline values. Additionally, SKO-001 did not cause any severe adverse reactions. In conclusion, SKO-001 is safe and effective for reducing body fat and has the potential for further clinical testing in humans.

Background Few studies have examined the effect of baseline attitudes toward nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) on its actual adherence in a smoking cessation intervention. Purpose This study (i) examined the predictability of baseline variables (quantitative data) on NRT adherence and (ii) explored the congruence of participants' statements about NRT products (qualitative data) during counseling sessions with their baseline attitudes. Methods This is a mixed-methods research study using a convergent parallel design. Participants included 74 individuals in the treatment group who received behavioral counseling and combination NRT. A Poisson regression analysis was performed to identify baseline variables predicting NRT adherence. Thematic analysis was completed with a subset of participants (n = 38) who varied in NRT attitude scores and adherence. A joint display was created to integrate quantitative and qualitative data and discover convergence. Results Approximately 59% of the participants (41/74) used NRT continuously for ≥5 weeks. Having negative attitudes toward NRT and depressive symptoms predicted NRT adherence even after controlling for education and anxiety symptoms. Thematic analysis revealed that NRT adherence is a learning process that consists of the following three distinctive but interrelated phases: (i) information needs, (ii) comprehensive readiness, and (iii) experiential learning. Of the 38 participants, 34 (89.5%) showed convergence between baseline attitude scores and statements about NRT made during counseling sessions. Conclusions Individuals who have negative attitudes toward NRT are less likely to use the products in a smoking cessation intervention. Counselors should assess attitudes toward NRT at baseline and address them proactively during counseling sessions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
