Using kaon secondary interactions in the material of the Belle detector, we search for both inclusive and exclusive production of the Θ(1540) +. We set an upper limit of 2.5% at the 90% C.L. on the ratio of the Θ(1540)+ to Λ(1520) inclusive production cross sections. We also search for the Θ(1540)+ as an intermediate resonance in the charge exchange reaction K+n→pKS 0. We set an upper limit of ΓΘ+

- Abstract
The Collins effect connects transverse quark spin with a measurable azimuthal dependence in the yield of hadronic fragments around the quark's momentum vector. Using two different reconstruction methods, we find evidence of statistically significant azimuthal asymmetries for charged pion pairs in e(+)e(-) annihilation at a center-of-mass energy of 10.52 GeV, which can be attributed to a transverse polarization of the primordial quarks. The measurement was performed using a sample of 79 x 10(6) hadronic events collected with the Belle detector.

We have searched for τ lepton decays, τ-→Λπ- and τ-→Λπ-, that simultaneously violate the conservation of the lepton (L) and baryon (B) number using a data sample of 154 fb-1 collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB e+e- asymmetric-energy collider. No evidence for a signal was found in either of the decay modes and we set the following upper limits for the branching fractions: B(τ-→Λπ-)

We report measurements of time-dependent decay rates for B 0 → D ∗ ∓ π ± decays and extraction of CP violation parameters related to ϕ 3 . We use a partial reconstruction technique, whereby signal events are identified using information only from the primary pion and the charged pion from the decay of the D ∗ ∓ . The analysis uses 140 fb −1 of data accumulated at the ϒ ( 4 S ) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e + e − collider. We measure the CP violation parameters S + = 0.035 ± 0.041 ( stat ) ± 0.018 ( syst ) and S − = 0.025 ± 0.041 ( stat ) ± 0.018 ( syst ) .

We present measurements of the branching fraction, the polarization parameters and CP-violating asymmetries in B0→D*+D *- decays using a 140 fb-1 data sample collected at the Υ(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB energy-asymmetric e+e- collider. We obtain B(B0→D*+D*-)=[0. 81±0.08(stat)±0.11(syst)]×10-3, R⊥=0.19±0. 08(stat)±0.01(syst), R0=0.57±0.08(stat)±0.02(syst), S=-0.75±0.56(stat)±0.12(syst) and A=-0.26±0.26(stat) ±0.06(syst). Consistency with Standard Model expectations is also discussed.

The angular distributions of the baryon-antibaryon low-mass enhancements seen in the charmless three-body baryonic B decays B+ -> p pbar K+, B0 -> p pbar Ks, and B0 -> p Lambdabar pi- are reported. A quark fragmentation interpretation is supported, while the gluonic resonance picture is disfavored. Searches for the Theta+ and Theta++ pentaquarks in the relevant decay modes and possible glueball states G with 2.2 GeV/c2 < M-ppbar < 2.4 GeV/c2 in the ppbar systems give null results. We set upper limits on the products of branching fractions, B(B0 -> Theta+ p)\times B(Theta+ -> p Ks) < 2.3 \times 10^{-7}, B(B+ -> Theta++ pbar) \times B(Theta++ -> p K+) < 9.1 \times 10^{-8}, and B(B+ -> G K+) \times B(G -> p pbar) < 4.1 \times 10^{-7} at the 90% confidence level. The analysis is based on a 140 fb^{-1} data sample recorded on the Upsilon(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+e- collider., 14 pages, 13 figure files, update of hep-ex/0409010 for journal submisssion

We present spectra of prompt electrons from decays of neutral and charged B mesons. The results are based on 140 fb −1 of data collected by the Belle detector on the ϒ ( 4 S ) resonance at the KEKB e + e − asymmetric collider. We tag ϒ ( 4 S ) → B B ¯ events by reconstructing a B meson in one of several hadronic decay modes; the semileptonic decay of the other B meson is inferred from the presence of an identified electron. We obtain for charged and neutral B mesons the partial rates of semileptonic decay, to electrons with momentum greater than 0.6 GeV / c in the B rest frame, and their ratio b + / b 0 = 1.08 ± 0.05 ± 0.02 , where the first and second errors are statistical and systematic, respectively.

We have measured π + π − and K + K − production in two-photon collisions using 87.7 fb −1 of data collected with the Belle detector at the asymmetric energy e + e − collider KEKB. The cross sections are measured to high precision in the two-photon center-of-mass energy ( W ) range between 2.4 GeV W 4.1 GeV and angular region | cos θ ∗ | 0.6 . The cross section ratio σ ( γ γ → K + K − ) / σ ( γ γ → π + π − ) is measured to be 0.89 ± 0.04 ( stat. ) ± 0.15 ( syst. ) in the range of 3.0 GeV W 4.1 GeV , where the ratio is energy-independent. We observe a sin −4 θ ∗ behavior of the cross section in the same W range. Production of χ c 0 and χ c 2 mesons is observed in both γ γ → π + π − and γ γ → K + K − modes.

We have searched for the lepton-flavor-violating decay τ → e γ using a data sample of 86.7 fb−1 collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric e + e − collider. No evidence for a signal is obtained, and we set an upper limit for the branching fraction B ( τ → e γ ) 3.9 × 10 −7 at the 90% C.L.

We report a measurement of the Ξ c + and Ξ c 0 baryon masses, and the branching ratios for various Ξ c decays, using 140 fb −1 of data collected by the Belle experiment at the KEKB e + e − collider. The mass splitting m Ξ c 0 − m Ξ c + is found to be 2.9 ± 0.5 MeV / c 2 ; this measurement is three times as precise as the current world average. We measure the branching ratios Γ ( Ξ c + → Λ K − π + π + ) / Γ ( Ξ c + → Ξ − π + π + ) = 0.32 ± 0.03 ± 0.02 and Γ ( Ξ c 0 → p K − K − π + ) / Γ ( Ξ c 0 → Ξ − π + ) = 0.33 ± 0.03 ± 0.03 , with improved precision, and measure Γ ( Ξ c + → p K S 0 K S 0 ) / Γ ( Ξ c + → Ξ − π + π + ) = 0.087 ± 0.016 ± 0.014 , Γ ( Ξ c 0 → Λ K − π + ) / Γ ( Ξ c 0 → Ξ − π + ) = 1.07 ± 0.12 ± 0.07 and Γ ( Ξ c 0 → Λ K S 0 ) / Γ ( Ξ c 0 → Ξ − π + ) = 0.21 ± 0.02 ± 0.02 for the first time.

We report the observation of B0 decays to the K+π-π0 final state using a data sample of 78 fb-1 collected by the Belle detector at the KEKB e+e- collider. With no assumptions about intermediate states in the decay, the branching fraction is measured to be (36.6-4.3+4.2±3.0)×10-6. We also search for B decays to intermediate two-body states with the same K+π-π0 final state. Significant B signals are observed in the ρ(770)-K+ and K*(892)+π- channels, with branching fractions of (15.1-3.3-1.5-2.1+3.4+1.4+2.0)×10-6 and (14.8-4.4-1.0-0.9+4.6+1.5+2.4) ×10-6, respectively. The first error is statistical, the second is systematic and the third is due to the largest possible interference. Contributions from other possible two-body states will be discussed. No CP asymmetry is found in the inclusive K+π-π0 or ρ-K+ modes, and we set 90% confidence level bounds on the asymmetry of -0.12

We have searched for neutrinoless τ lepton decays into three charged leptons using an 87.1fb-1 data sample collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB e+e- collider. Since the number of signal candidate events is compatible with that expected from the background, we set 90% confidence level upper limits on the branching fractions in the range (1.9-3.5)×10-7 for various decay modes τ -→l-l+l- where l represents e or μ. © 2004 Published by Elsevier B.V.

We report the results of several studies of the {lambda}{sub c}{sup +}{pi}{sup +}{pi}{sup -}X final state in continuum e{sup +}e{sup -} annihilation data collected by the Belle detector. An analysis of angular distributions in {lambda}{sub c}(2880){sup +}{yields}{sigma}{sub c}(2455){sup 0,++}{pi}{sup +,-} decays strongly favors a {lambda}{sub c}(2880){sup +} spin assignment of (5/2) over (3/2) or (1/2). We find evidence for {lambda}{sub c}(2880){sup +}{yields}{sigma}{sub c}(2520){sup 0,++}{pi}{sup +,-} decay and measure the ratio of {lambda}{sub c}(2880){sup +} partial widths {gamma}({sigma}{sub c}(2520){pi})/{gamma}({sigma}{sub c}(2455){pi})=0.225{+-}0.062{+-}0.= 025. This value favors the {lambda}{sub c}(2880){sup +} spin-parity assignment of (5/2){sup +} over (5/2){sup -}. We also report the first observation of {lambda}{sub c}(2940){sup +}{yields}{sigma}{sub c}(2455){sup 0,++}{pi}{sup +,-} decay and measure {lambda}{sub c}(2880){sup +} and {lambda}{sub c}(2940){sup +} mass and width parameters. These studies are based on a 553 fb{sup -1} data sample collected at or near the {upsilon}(4S) resonance at the KEKB collider.

Using a sample of 152×106 BB pairs accumulated with the Belle detector at the KEKB e+e- collider, we study the decay mechanism of three-body charmed decay B-→Λc+pπ-. The intermediate two-body decay B-→Σc(2455)0p is observed for the first time with a branching fraction of (3.7±0.7±0.4±1.0)×10-5 and a statistical significance of 8.4σ. We also observe a low-mass enhancement in the (Λc+p) system, which can be parametrized as a Breit-Wigner function with a mass of (3.35-0.02+0.01±0.02)GeV/c2 and a width of (0.07-0.03+0.04±0.04)GeV/c2. We measure its branching fraction to be (3.9-0.7+0.8±0.4±1.0)×10-5 with a statistical significance of 6.2σ. The errors are statistical, systematic, and that of the Λc+→pK-π+ decay branching fraction. © 2006 The American Physical Society.

We report the observation of the flavor-changing neutral current process b→dγ using a sample of 386×106 B meson pairs accumulated by the Belle detector at the KEKB e+e- collider. We measure branching fractions for the exclusive modes B-→ρ-γ, B0→ρ0γ, and B0→ωγ. Assuming that these three modes are related by isospin, we find B(B→(ρ,ω)γ)=(1.32-0.31+0.34(stat)-0.09+0.10(syst)) ×10-6 with a significance of 5.1σ. This result is used to determine the ratio of Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix elements |Vtd/Vts| to be 0.199-0.025+0.026(exp)-0.015+0.018(theor). © 2006 The American Physical Society.

- Abstract
We report evidence for the exclusive two-body charmless hadronic B meson decay B--eta'pi, and improved measurements of B--eta'K. The results are obtained from a data sample of 386x10(6) BB pairs collected at the Upsilon(4S) resonance, with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+e- collider. We measure B(B+--eta'pi+)=[1.76(-0.62)(+0.67)(stat)(-0.14)(+0.15)(syst)]x10(-6) and B(B0--eta'pi0)=[2.79(-0.96)(+1.02)(stat)(-0.34)(+0.25)(syst)]x10(-6). We also find the ratio of B(B+--eta'K+)/B(B0--eta'K0)=1.17+/-0.08(stat)+/-0.03(syst) and measure the direct CP asymmetries for the charged modes.

We present a measurement of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix element data collected by the Belle detector at the KEKB e+e-asymmetric collider. Events are tagged by fully reconstructing one of the B mesons, produced in pairs from Υ(4S). The signal for b→u semileptonic decay is distinguished from the b→c background using the hadronic mass MX, the leptonic invariant mass squared q2 and the variable P+≡EX-|p→X|. The results are obtained for events with pl*≥1GeV/c, in three kinematic regions (1)MX 8GeV2/c2, and by (3)P+

We present an improved measurement of the branching fraction for the electroweak penguin process B->Xsll, where l is an electron or a muon and Xs is a hadronic system containing an s-quark. The measurement is based on a sample of 152*10^6 Upsilon(4S) -> BB events collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB energy asymmetric e+e- collider. The Xs hadronic system is reconstructed from one K^{+-} or K^{0}_{S} and up to four pions, where at most one pion can be neutral. Averaging over both lepton flavors, the inclusive branching fraction is measured to be Br(B->Xsll)=(4.11+-0.83(stat)+0.85-0.81(syst))*10^{-6} for M_ll > 0.2GeV/c2., Comment: 16 pages 5 figures Latex, Submitted to Physical Review D

We report on a measurement of the branching fractions for B- → D(*)+π- l -vl and B0 → D (*)0π+l-vl with 275 × 106 BB events collected at the γ(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at KEKB. Events are tagged by fully reconstructing one of the B mesons in hadronic modes. We obtain B(B- → D+π- l-vl = (0.54±0.07(stat)±0.07(syst)±0.06(BR))× 10 -2, B(B- → D(*)+π- l-vl = (0.67 ±0.11(stat) ±0.09(syst) ±0.03(BR)) × 10-2, B(B0 → D0π+ l -vl) = (0.33 ±0.06(stat) ± 0.06(syst) ±0.03(BR)) × 10-2, B(B0 → D(*)0π+l -vl) = (0.65 ±0.12(stat) ± 0.08(syst) ±0.05(BR)) × 10-2, where the third error comes from the error on B → D(*)l -vl decays. Contributions from B0 → D(*)+l-vl decays are excluded in the measurement of B0 → D0π +l-vl. © 2005 The American Physical Society.

We report the observation of B-→J/ψΛp and searches for B-→J/ψΣ0p and B0→J/ψpp decays, using a sample of 275×106 BB pairs collected with the Belle detector at the Υ(4S) resonance. We observe a signal of 17.2±4.1 events with a significance of 11.1σ and obtain a branching fraction of B(B-→J/ψΛp)=11.6±2.8(stat)-2.3+1.8(sys)×10-6. No signal is found for either of the two decay modes, B-→J/ ψΣ0p and B0→J/ψpp, and upper limits for the branching fractions are determined to be B(B-→J/ψΣ0p)

We present a new measurement of the time-dependent CP-violating parameters in B{sup 0}{yields}{pi}{sup +}{pi}{sup -} decays with 275x10{sup 6} BB pairs collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e{sup +}e{sup -} collider operating at the {upsilon}(4S) resonance. We find 666{+-}43 B{sup 0}{yields}{pi}{sup +}{pi}{sup -} events and measure the CP-violating parameters: S{sub {pi}}{sub {pi}}=-0.67{+-}0.16(stat){+-}0.06(syst) and A{sub {pi}}{sub {pi}}=+0.56{+-}0.12(stat){+-}0.06(syst). We find evidence for large direct CP violation with a significance greater than 4 standard deviations for any S{sub {pi}}{sub {pi}} value. Using isospin relations, we obtain 95.4% confidence intervals for the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa quark-mixing matrix angle {phi}{sub 2} of 0 deg.

CP violation in B-->J/PsiK* decays is studied using an angular analysis in a data sample of 253 fb(-1) recorded with the Belle detector at the KEKB e(+)e(-) collider. The flavor separated measurements of the decay amplitudes indicate no evidence for direct CP violation. T-odd CP violation is studied using the asymmetries in triple product correlations, and the results are consistent with the standard model null predictions. The time-dependent angular analysis gives the following values of CP-violating parameters: sin(2phi(1) = 0.24 +/- 0.31 +/- 0.05 and cos(2phi(1)=0.56 +/- 0.79 +/- 0.11.

We present a measurement of CP-violation parameters in the B0 --> K(s)0K(s)0K(s)0 decay based on a sample of 275 x 10(6) BB pairs collected at the upsilon(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB energy-asymmetric e+e- collider. One neutral B meson is fully reconstructed in the decay B0 --> K(s)0K(s)0K(s)0, and the flavor of the accompanying B meson is identified from its decay products. CP-violation parameters are obtained from the asymmetry in the distributions of the proper-time interval between the two B decays: S = +1.26 +/- 0.68(stat) +/- 0.20(syst) and [symbol: see text] = +0.54 +/- 0.34(stat) +/- 0.09(syst).

We report measurements of B meson decays to two kaons using 250/fb of data collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric energy e+ e- collider. We find evidence of signals in B+ -> K0(bar) K+ and B0 -> K0 K0(bar) with significances of 3.0 sigma and 3.5 sigma, respectively. The corresponding branching fractions are measured to be BF(B+ -> K0(bar) K+) = (1.0+-0.4+-0.1) x 10^-6 and Br(B0 -> K0 K0(bar)) = 0.8+-0.3+-0.1) x 10^-6. These decay modes are examples of hadronic b -> d transitions. No signal is observed in the decay B0 -> K+ K- and we set an upper limit of 3.7 x 10^-7 at 90% confidence level., 8 pages, 1 figure, submitted to the Lepton Photon 2005 conference in Uppsala, Sweden and to the HEP2005 Europhysics Conference in Lisbon, Portugal Submitted to PRL

We report evidence for B{sup 0}{yields}D{sup +}D{sup -} and the first observation of the decay modes B{sup -}{yields}D{sup 0}D{sup -} and B{sup -}{yields}D{sup 0}D{sup *-} based on a sample of 152x10{sup 6} BB events collected by the Belle detector at KEKB. The branching fractions for B{sup 0}{yields}D{sup +}D{sup -}, B{sup -}{yields}D{sup 0}D{sup -}, and B{sup -}{yields}D{sup 0}D{sup *-} are found to be (1.91{+-}0.51{+-}0.30)x10{sup -4} (4.83{+-}0.78{+-}0.58)x10{sup -4}, and (4.57{+-}0.71{+-}0.56)x10{sup -4}, respectively. Charge asymmetries in the B{sup -}{yields}D{sup 0}D{sup -} and B{sup -}{yields}D{sup 0}D{sup *-} channels are consistent with zero.

We present new measurements of CP-violation parameters in B0→K0, K+K-KS0, f0(980)KS0, η′KS0, ωKS0, and KS0π0 decays based on a sample of 275×106 BB pairs collected at the Υ(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB energy-asymmetric e+e- collider. One neutral B meson is fully reconstructed in one of the specified decay channels, and the flavor of the accompanying B meson is identified from its decay products. CP-violation parameters for each of the decay modes are obtained from the asymmetries in the distributions of the proper-time intervals between the two B decays. The combined result for the B0→K0, K+K-KS0, f0(980)KS0, η′KS0, ωKS0, KS0π0, and previously reported KS0KS0KS0 decays differs from the SM expectation by 2.4 standard deviations. © 2005 The American Physical Society.

We present a new measurement of CP-violation parameters in B(0)-->K(0)(S)pi(0)gamma decay based on a sample of 275 x 10(6) BB pairs collected at the Gamma(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB energy-asymmetric e(+)e(-) collider. One of the B mesons is fully reconstructed in the B(0)-->K(0)(S)pi(0)gamma decay. The flavor of the accompanying B meson is identified from its decay products. CP-violation parameters are obtained from the asymmetry in the distribution of the proper time intervals between the two B decays. We obtain SK(0)(S)(pi(0)gamma) = -0.58(+0.46)(-0.38)(stat) +/- 0.11(syst) and AK(0)(S)(pi(0)gamma) = +0.03 +/- 0.34(stat) +/- 0.11(syst), for the K(0)(S)pi(0) invariant mass covering the full range up to 1.8 GeV/c2. We also measure the CP-violation parameters for the case B(0)-->K(*0)(-->K(0)(S)pi(0))gamma and obtain S(K(*0)gamma) = -0.79(+0.63)(-0.50)(stat) +/- 0.10(syst) for A(K(*0)gamma) fixed at 0.

We report on the first observation of D10(2420)→D0π-π+ and D1+(2420)→D+π-π+ decays (where the contribution from the dominant known D1→D*π decay mode is excluded) in the B-→D10π- and B0→D1+π- decays, respectively. The observation is based on 15.2×107 BB events collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB collider. We also set 90% confidence level upper limits for the branching fractions of the four following decays: B-→D10π-, D10→D *0π-π+, B0→D1+π-, D1+→D*+π-π+, B-→D2*0(2460)π-, D2*0→D*0π-π+, B0→D2*+(2460)π-, D2*+→D*+π-π+. © 2005 The American Physical Society.

We present measurements of decay amplitudes and triple-product correlations in B-->phiK* decays based on 253 fb(-1) of data recorded at the Upsilon(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB e(+)e(-) storage ring. The decay amplitudes for the three different helicity states are determined from the angular distributions of final-state particles. The longitudinal polarization amplitudes are found to be 0.45 +/- 0.05 +/- 0.02 for B0-->phiK(*0) and 0.52 +/- 0.08 +/- 0.03 for B+ -->phiK(*+) decays. CP- and T-odd CP-violating triple-product asymmetries are measured to be consistent with zero.

- Abstract
Using a sample of 152 x 10(6) BB pairs accumulated with the Belle detector at the KEKB e+e- collider, we study the decay mechanism of three-body charmed decay B- --Lambdac+ ppi-. The intermediate two-body decay B---Sigmac (2455)0 p is observed for the first time with a branching fraction of (3.7 +/- 0.7 +/- 0.4 +/- 1.0) x 10(-5) and a statistical significance of 8.4sigma. We also observe a low-mass enhancement in the (Lambdac+p) system, which can be parametrized as a Breit-Wigner function with a mass of (3.35(-0.02)(+0.01) +/-0.02) GeV/c2 and a width of (0.07(-0.03)(+0.04) +/-0.04) GeV/c2. We measure its branching fraction to be (3.9(-0.7)(+0.8) +/- 0.4 +/- 1.0) x 10(-5) with a statistical significance of 6.2sigma. The errors are statistical, systematic, and that of the Lambdac+--pK- pi+ decay branching fraction.

We report measurements of B to pseudoscalar-pseudoscalar decays with at least one {eta} meson in the final state using 140 fb{sup -1} of data collected by the Belle detector at KEKB e{sup +}e{sup -} collider. We observe the decay B{sup +}{yields}{eta}{pi}{sup +} and find evidence of B{sup +}{yields}{eta}K{sup +}; the measured branching fractions are B(B{sup +}{yields}{eta}{pi}{sup +})=(4.8{sub -0.7}{sup +0.8}(stat){+-}0.3(sys))x10{sup -6} and B(B{sup +}{yields}{eta}K{sup +})=(2.1{+-}0.6(stat){+-}0.2(sys))x10{sup -6}. Their corresponding CP violating asymmetries are measured to be 0.07{+-}0.15(stat){+-}0.03(sys) for {eta}{pi}{sup {+-}} and -0.49{+-}0.31(stat){+-}0.07(sys) for {eta}K{sup {+-}}. No significant signals are found for neutral B{yields}{eta}h decays. We report the following upper limits on branching fractions at the 90% confidence level: B(B{sup 0}{yields}{eta}K{sup 0})

We report results on the Dalitz analysis of three-body charmless B+ -> K+ pi(+) pi(-) and B+-> K+ K+ K- decays based on a 140 fb(-1) data sample collected with the Belle detector. Measurements of branching fractions for quasi-two-body decays to scalar-pseudoscalar states: B+ -> f(0)(980)K+, B+ -> K-0(*)(1430)(0)pi(+), and to vector-pseudoscalar states: B+ -> K-*(892)(0)pi(+), B+ -> rho(0)K(+), B+ -> phi K+ are presented. Upper limits on decays to some pseudoscalar-tensor final states are reported. We also report the measurement of the B+ -> chi(c0)K(+) branching fraction in two chi(c0) decays channels: chi(c0) -> pi(+)pi(-) and chi(c0) -> K+K-.

We report the observation of the decay B0-->pi(0)pi(0), using a 253 fb(-1) data sample collected at the Upsilon(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB e(+)e(-) collider. The measured branching fraction is B(B0-->pi(0)pi(0))=(2.3(+0.4+0.2)(-0.5-0.3))x10(-6), with a significance of 5.8 standard deviations including systematic uncertainties. We also make a measurement of the direct CP violating asymmetry in this mode.

- Abstract
We present a new measurement of the time-dependent CP-violating parameters in B(0)--pi(+)pi(-) decays with 275 x 10(6) BB pairs collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e(+)e(-) collider operating at the Gamma(4S) resonance. We find 666 +/- 43 B(0) --pi(+)pi(-) events and measure the CP-violating parameters: S(pipi) = -0.67 +/- 0.16(stat) +/- 0.06(syst) and A(pipi) = +0.56 +/- 0.12(stat) +/- 0.06(syst). We find evidence for large direct CP violation with a significance greater than 4 standard deviations for any S(pipi) value. Using isospin relations, we obtain 95.4% confidence intervals for the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa quark-mixing matrix angle phi(2) of 0 degreephiv(2)19 degrees and 71 degreesphi(2)180 degrees.

- Abstract
CP violation in B--J/PsiK* decays is studied using an angular analysis in a data sample of 253 fb(-1) recorded with the Belle detector at the KEKB e(+)e(-) collider.

We present a precise measurement of the standard model $CP$-violation parameter $\mathrm{sin} 2{\ensuremath{\phi}}_{1}$, the direct $CP$ violation parameter $|\ensuremath{\lambda}|$, the lifetimes of charged and neutral $B$ mesons and their ratio, and the ${B}^{0}$-${\overline{B}}^{0}$ mixing parameter $\ensuremath{\Delta}{m}_{d}$ based on a sample of $152\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}{10}^{6}$ $B\overline{B}$ pairs collected at the $\ensuremath{\Upsilon}(4S)$ resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy ${e}^{+}{e}^{\ensuremath{-}}$ collider. One of two $B$ mesons is fully reconstructed in a $CP$-eigenstate or a flavor-eigenstate decay channel. The flavor of the accompanying $B$ meson is identified from its decay products. From the distributions of the time interval between the two $B$ meson decay points, we obtain $\mathrm{sin} 2{\ensuremath{\phi}}_{1}=0.728\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.056(\mathrm{stat})\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.023(\mathrm{syst})$, $|\ensuremath{\lambda}|=1.007\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.041(\mathrm{stat})\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.033(\mathrm{syst})$, ${\ensuremath{\tau}}_{{B}^{0}}=[1.534\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.008(\mathrm{stat})\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.010(\mathrm{syst})]\text{ }\text{ }\mathrm{ps}$, ${\ensuremath{\tau}}_{{B}^{+}}=[1.635\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.011(\mathrm{stat})\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.011(\mathrm{syst})]\text{ }\text{ }\mathrm{ps}$, ${\ensuremath{\tau}}_{{B}^{+}}/{\ensuremath{\tau}}_{{B}^{0}}=1.066\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.008(\mathrm{stat})\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.008(\mathrm{syst})$ and $\ensuremath{\Delta}{m}_{d}=[0.511\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.005(\mathrm{stat})\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.006{(\mathrm{syst})]\text{ }\text{ }\mathrm{ps}}^{\ensuremath{-}1}$. The results for $\mathrm{sin} 2{\ensuremath{\phi}}_{1}$ and $|\ensuremath{\lambda}|$ are consistent with the standard model expectations. The significance of the observed deviation from unity in the lifetime ratio exceeds 5 standard deviations.
