Students are reading on screens more than ever—how can we teach them to be better digital readers? Der Band bietet eine interdisziplinäre Bestandsaufnahme und Perspektivenreflexion von WissenschafterInnen zum Thema'Lesen'in verschiedensten Bereichen. Zunächst erfolgt eine Untersuchung des Ist-Zustandes des Lesens bei Kindern und Jugendlichen in und außerhalb der Schule, des Weiteren die Beleuchtung psycholinguistischer, politischer, ideologischer und kulturwissenschaftlicher Dimensionen des Lesens sowie der Lesedebatte und der Lesetheorie. In der Folge werden verschiedene Berufsfelder auf ihre Erfahrungen als Leser, respektive als Leser von Dichtung befragt: der Lektor, der Historiker, der Psychiater, der Literaturwissenschaftler, der Dichter. Nicht zuletzt kommt die Frage nach der Bedeutung des Lesens im Exil zur Sprache. Den Perspektiven einer Zukunft, die längst begonnen hat, sind Studien zum Lesen von digitaler Literatur, zur Literaturvermittlung im Internet und zu Fanfiction und literarischer Fankultur im Internet gewidmet.
