4. Caracterización de la dinámica de emergencia de cuatro especies poáceas en el departamento Moreno (Santiago del Estero)

Abstract

En las regiones del NEA y NOA argentino, las gramíneas predominan dentro de la comunidad de malezas y son la principal limitante en los planteos productivos. En este sentido, el conocimiento de sus flujos de emergencia es imprescindible para el diseño de estrategias de manejo. El objetivo del presente trabajo fue caracterizar la dinámica de emergencia para el período agosto-enero de las especies malezas: Urochloa panicoides, Echinochloa colona, Chloris elata y Pappophorum papiferum en el departamento Moreno (Santiago del Estero) en relación a 2 variables ambientales: precipitaciones y temperatura del aire (esta última a través del cálculo de sumas térmicas en grados días). Durante los años 2014 a 2017 se realizaron conteos destructivos de plántulas cada 10-15 días sobre 4 marcos de 0,25 m2, distribuidos al azar sobre rodales donde estas malezas se hallaban. Los datos de temperatura diaria y precipitaciones se obtuvieron de estaciones meteorológicas automáticas y pluviómetros "in situ". Las condiciones ambientales durante el periodo de evaluación permitieron caracterizar la dinámica en escenarios diversos con relación a la oferta y distribución de los eventos pluviométricos, como así también a través de las sumas térmicas, con la excepción de P. papiferum donde no fue posible el cálculo de grados días. C. elata y P. papiferum nacen a partir de septiembre sí disponen de humedad y concentran los mayores porcentajes de emergencia acumulada en el mes de noviembre. U. panicoides centralizó su emergencia a fines de octubre y primeros días de noviembre, donde rápidamente alcanza valores de emergencia acumulada cercana al 90% o superior en una de sus cohortes. Durante los meses previos, los nacimientos son prácticamente nulos, aún en condiciones no limitantes de humedad. E. colona concentro su emergencia a fines de octubre y primeros días de noviembre en 2 cohortes, representando cada una de ellas entre un 30 y 50% de la emergencia acumulada. Abstract

The objectives of this work were: to delimit the growing seasons of the M. maximus pastoral systems in El 14 establishment, Departamento Moreno, Santiago del Estero, Argentina, in the 2000-2021 period using time series of NDVIMODIS and threshold 0.5 NDVIRATIO; to quantify their aboveground net primary productivity (ANPP) and their responses to seasonal rainfall anomalies; to quantify the rain use efficiency (RUE), relate it to seasonal rainfall and determine its trend in the period. Growing seasons (GS) start in November and end in May. Significant differences were found in the ANPP of GS with anomalies positive and negative of seasonal rainfall. ANPP recovers after GS with negative rainfall anomalies, evidencing their resilience capacity after extreme weather events. The RUE had a high negative trend in the period. Significant differences were found in the RUE and seasonal rainfall. Most of RUE are related to the normal range of rainfall for the study area. In turn, growing season with lowest RUE were related to rainfall ≥ 700 mm. Seasonal rainfall of 700 mm could be considered the threshold in the loss of water of pastoral systems. Anthropic activities like deforestation and livestock, added to shifts in seasonal storm in intensity/magnitude, number of rainy, timing and frequency, they would contribute to the loss of large amounts of water by surface runoff in the study area. The local information obtained enables the implementation of appropriate management strategies in order to mitigate extreme climatic adversities.

Abstract

We herein present an overview of the upcoming 5th edition of the World Health Organization Classification of Haematolymphoid Tumours focussing on lymphoid neoplasms. Myeloid and histiocytic neoplasms will be presented in a separate accompanying article. Besides listing the entities of the classification, we highlight and explain changes from the revised 4th edition. These include reorganization of entities by a hierarchical system as is adopted throughout the 5th edition of the WHO classification of tumours of all organ systems, modification of nomenclature for some entities, revision of diagnostic criteria or subtypes, deletion of certain entities, and introduction of new entities, as well as inclusion of tumour-like lesions, mesenchymal lesions specific to lymph node and spleen, and germline predisposition syndromes associated with the lymphoid neoplasms.

Abstract

Phenological parameters and net primary productivity of Panicum maximum pastoralist systems in the Department of Moreno, Santiago del Estero, Argentina, in the period 2008-2014 were determined from MODIS NDVI time series. The start, midpoint and end of growing seasons had higher frequency, respectively, in January, March and June. Significant differences (p <0.01) in the Amplitude, Base and aboveground net primary production (ANPP) between growing seasons due to anomalies in seasonal rainfall were found. Growing seasons with high length and amplitude had higher ANPP. Significant direct relationship between the Amplitude and ANPP were found (r² 0.50). However, relationships between the Base and ANPP (p > 0.05) were not found. ANPP in growing seasons with negative anomalies of rainfall was: 1790.2 kg dm ha-1 (2008-2009) and 3085.22 kg dm ha-1 (2012-2013). In growing seasons with positive anomalies of rainfall, ANPP was: 9245.23 kg dm ha-1 (2009-2010); 11562.31 kg dm ha-1 (2010-2011), 10514.00 kg dm ha-1 (2011-2012) and 9528.51 kg dm ha-1 (2013-2014). ANPP growing seasons with drought was 78.7% lower than ANPP growing seasons with positive anomalies of average rainfall. The MODIS NDVI time series are an invaluable tool for determining the receptivity of pastoral systems and for preventing and / or mitigate adverse weather extremes such as droughts. Abstract

The survival rate in lung cancer remains stubbornly low and there is an urgent need for the identification of new therapeutic targets. In the last decade, several members of the SWI/SNF chromatin remodeling complexes have been described altered in different tumor types. Nevertheless, the precise mechanisms of their impact on cancer progression, as well as the application of this knowledge to cancer patient management are largely unknown. In this study, we performed targeted sequencing of a cohort of lung cancer patients on genes involved in chromatin structure. In addition, we studied at the protein level the expression of these genes in cancer samples and performed functional experiments to identify the molecular mechanisms linking alterations of chromatin remodeling genes and tumor development. Remarkably, we found that 20% of lung cancer patients show ARID2 protein loss, partially explained by the presence of ARID2 mutations. In addition, we showed that ARID2 deficiency provokes profound chromatin structural changes altering cell transcriptional programs, which bolsters the proliferative and metastatic potential of the cells both in vitro and in vivo. Moreover, we demonstrated that ARID2 deficiency impairs DNA repair, enhancing the sensitivity of the cells to DNA-damaging agents. Our findings support that ARID2 is a bona fide tumor suppressor gene in lung cancer that may be exploited therapeutically.

Abstract

BackgroundThe CD4/CD8 ratio is an indicator of immunosenescence and a predictor of all-cause mortality in HIV-infected patients. The effects of different ART regimens on CD4/CD8 ratio recovery remain unclear.MethodsClinical cohort study of ART-treated patients from the CFAR Network of Integrated Clinical Systems (CNICS). We included ART-naive adults with HIV infection who achieved undetectable HIV RNA during the first 48 weeks of treatment and had additional follow-up 48 weeks after virological suppression (VS). Primary endpoints included increase in CD4/CD8 ratio at both timepoints and secondary endpoints were CD4/CD8 ratio recovery at cut-offs of ≥0.5 or ≥1.0.ResultsOf 3971 subjects who met the study criteria, 1876 started ART with an NNRTI, 1804 with a PI and 291 with an integrase strand transfer inhibitor (INSTI). After adjusting for age, sex, race, year of entry, risk group, HCV serostatus, baseline viral load and baseline CD4/CD8 ratio, subjects on an NNRTI showed a significantly greater CD4/CD8 ratio gain compared with those on a PI, either 48 weeks after ART initiation or after 48 weeks of HIV RNA VS. The greater CD4/CD8 ratio improvement in the NNRTI arm was driven by a higher decline in CD8 counts. The INSTI group showed increased rates of CD4/CD8 ratio normalization at the ≥1.0 cut-off compared with the PI group.ConclusionsNNRTI therapy was associated with a greater increase in the CD4/CD8 ratio compared with PIs. NNRTI- and INSTI-based first-line ART were associated with higher rates of CD4/CD8 ratio normalization at a cut-off of 1.0 than a PI-based regimen, which might have clinical implications.
