Abstract

Brain tumors are an abnormal growth of cells in the brain. They can be classified into distinct grades based on their growth. Often grading is performed based on a histological image and is one of the most significant predictors of a patients prognosis, the higher the grade, the more aggressive the tumor. Correct diagnosis of a tumor grade remains challenging. Though histopathological grading has been shown to be prognostic, results are subject to interobserver variability, even among experienced pathologists. Recently, the World Health Organization reported that advances in molecular genetics have led to improvements in tumor classification. This paper seeks to integrate histological images and genetic data for improved computer-aided diagnosis. We propose a novel Multi-modal Outer Arithmetic Block (MOAB) based on arithmetic operations to combine latent representations of the different modalities for predicting the tumor grade (Grade \rom{2}, \rom{3} and \rom{4}). Extensive experiments evaluate the effectiveness of our approach. By applying MOAB to The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) glioma dataset, we show that it can improve separation between similar classes (Grade \rom{2} and \rom{3}) and outperform prior state-of-the-art grade classification techniques.

4. By the Numbers : Moab Uranium Mill Tailings Remedial Action Project (Updated June 2024)

Abstract

The Moab Site is located about 3 miles northwest of the city of Moab in Grand County, Utah, and encompasses approximately 480 acres, of which about 130 acres are covered by a uranium mill tailings pile. In 1956, the Uranium Reduction Company constructed the Moab mill and operated it until 1962 when the assets were sold to Atlas Minerals Corporation. The milling product was a uranium concentrate called yellowcake, which was sold to the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission through December 1970 for use in national defense programs. Mill tailings are the remains from processing uranium ore. After 1970, production was primarily for commercial sales to nuclear power plants. Atlas ceased processing operations in 1984. The former mill site was transferred to DOE ownership in 2001 for cleanup and reclamation. Today, the Moab Uranium Mill Tailings Remedial Action (UMTRA) Project is relocating mill tailings and other contaminated materials from the mill site and offsite vicinity properties to a disposal cell near Crescent Junction, Utah.

Abstract

The 1870s case of the archaeological forgeries attributed to Jerusalem antiquities dealer Moses Wilhelm Shapira continues to provoke interest. This article examines the association of the Moabitica, marketed by Shapira, to their Moabite origin using the modern scientific methods of ceramic petrography and X-ray fluorescence. The results serve, in turn, to illuminate an unanswered question raised by the historical account of the German explorers’ provisional delegation to Moab. The delegation traced the sources of the Moabitica antiquities in an attempt to locate additional Moabitica in situ where they had allegedly been found. The historical account is unclear as to whether this research trip was also part of the conspiracy organised by the Jerusalem counterfeiters or whether it solely involved a workshop and a team acting east of the Dead Sea. Combining the historical narrative and the geoarchaeological analysis, the affair is examined from a perspective never before undertaken. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In 1956, the Uranium Reduction Company constructed the Moab uranium mill approximately three miles northwest of the city. In 2015, Elaine Paul, CFO of Hulu, and the rest of the senior leadership team, must decide if they should offer a new, advertisement-free subscription service. At the time Hulu distributed a wide variety of content including in season current programming and earned significant revenues from advertising revenues.
