J. Dirks (1982) reported that the Block-Design subtest score from the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children--Revised is amenable to practice effects transferred from a game. Results from the assessment of two other spatial games, using 37 children in daycare (23 experimentals and 14 controls) indicate no transfer effects. (TJH)

Background: Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex (LGBTI) people experience health and wellness challenges additional to and separate from those of the wider population. Extant research has identified that LGBTI patients support education for healthcare providers to improve their access to appropriate care. Community pharmacists have a role in providing appropriate care to LGBTI patients., Aims: This study explores the experiences of Australian community pharmacists in providing LGBTI healthcare., Methods: Ten pharmacists were interviewed using a semi-structured interview guide and the major themes were identified using Braun and Clark's thematic analysis., Results: Analysis revealed a demand for professional education in several areas of LGBTI healthcare, especially gender-affirming hormone replacement therapy and safe communication with this group. Barriers to privacy and confidentiality were revealed, including time constraints, Covid-19 social distancing requirements, and the lack of appropriate consultation rooms. Further there is a need to engage LGBTI patients through greater inclusive advertising., Conclusions: While there is some improvement, more must be done to promote inclusive pharmacy care for LGBTI people. Jensen has reported reaction-time (RT) studies indicating that various parameters correlate significantly with IQ. Two parameters of interest are slope of RT across set size and increasing correlations of RT with IQ as set size increases. After reviewing these studies, the author concludes that Jensen's claims are unwarranted. (Author/BW)

A series of environmental-genetical analyses of the left-handedness of 1,950 college students indicates that left-handedness is familial: it is more frequent in families in which at least one parent is left-handed. (Author/CM)

Three studies of college students found a sex difference in the correlation of memory scanning rate, short- and long-term components of free recall, and word recognition with memory span. Findings are discussed in terms of prior work and a theory presented to account for the obtained sex differences. (Author/RD)

The objective of this study is to identify the main motivations and expectations for seeking spiritual treatment (ST) in  spiritist centers. This is a qualitative study developed at two spiritist centers in the state of Mato Grosso, Brazil. ST was considered as the set of activities that use magnetic current as the main treatment method. We observed that most of the participants first sought treatments from health professionals and that, after insufficient results, they went in search of ST. Their treatments take place simultaneously and, for the participants, they complement each other. The motivations that led the participants to ST ranged from physical reasons to mental health complaints and even family conflicts. One possibility for investing in this type of treatment is due to the participants' desire for a more comprehensive approach, and not as a mere solution to the problem that directly afflicts them., Competing Interests: Declarations Conflict of interests The authors have not disclosed any competing interests., (© 2024. Objective: This study aimed to identify posture deviations in rugby league players, and to observe relationships between posture and the incidence of non-contact lower limb injury., Design: Prospective cohort., Setting: Laboratory and on-field., Participants: Junior representative, semi-professional and professional rugby league players (n = 207)., Main Outcome Measures: Static posture scores from photographs (Watson and MacDonncha tool) in pre-season; non-contact lower limb injury surveillance and exposure data., Methods: Chi-square and logistic regression analyses were used to observe relationships between postural components and the incidence of non-contact lower limb injury., Results: 8.7% of players sustained a quadriceps injury; 7.2% sustained a calf injury. Semi-professional and professional players had the highest injury rates. The most common posture deviations were having a forward shoulder position (46.9%), a forward head position (33.3%), a varus knee interspace (32.9%) or a lumbar lordosis (30.9%). A moderate C-scoliosis deviation was associated with a decrease in injury risk (OR 1.57 95% CI 1.00-2.46 p = 0.052). Included in the model was player weight, which was associated with an increased risk of injury (OR 1.04 95% CI 1.01-1.07 p = 0.010)., Conclusions: Although postural deviations are common in rugby league players, given the lack of association with injury, they may not warrant intervention., (Copyright © 2019.
