Background: Preserving parathyroid function during thyroidectomy is crucial, but remains challenging. Real-time near-infrared autofluorescence (NIRAF) aids surgeons in intraoperative parathyroid gland (PTG) identification. However, its role in detecting PTGs unintentionally removed during surgery is unclear., Study Design: This prospective study included adult patients undergoing endoscopic thyroidectomy. Surgeons identified and documented PTGs visually. Excised specimens underwent visual inspection and NIRAF imaging (PDE-Neo II). All fluorescent tissues were dissected and pathologically evaluated (reference standard). One scanned image per lobe was chosen to quantify autofluorescence (AF) intensity., Results: Overall, 95 patients underwent endoscopic thyroidectomies, with NIRAF imaging applied to 152 excised lobes. Of these, 19 lobes displayed a total of 23 spots with increased intensity. 175 specimens were sent for pathological evaluation, and 7 were confirmed to be parathyroid tissue. NIRAF demonstrated 100.0 % sensitivity and 90.5 % specificity for predicting parathyroid tissue, with 30.4 % positive predictive value, 100.0 % negative predictive value of and 90.9 % accuracy. Quantitatively normalized, the AF signal intensity was significantly higher in NIRAF-positive tissues than negative (4.3 vs 1.2 times, p < 0.0001). Additionally, the AF signal intensity in regions pathologically confirmed of parathyroid tissue was higher than non-parathyroid tissue (9.1 vs 2.1 times, p < 0.0001)., Conclusion: This study suggests that NIRAF has high sensitivity and specificity for detecting inadvertently resected PTGs after endoscopic thyroidectomy, contributing to preservation efforts. However, NIRAF-positive tissues still require additional confirmation through multiple methods, emphasizing other examinations to verify that they are indeed parathyroid tissues. Cellulose nanofibers (CNF) create a physical barrier preventing contact with corrosive substances and improving corrosion prevention. Oil palm fronds (OPF), the primary source of underused biomass waste from plantations, were processed into CNF. The OPF-CNF, mixed with hydroxyethyl cellulose as the matrix, forms a nanocomposite. Corrosion analysis using electrochemical methods demonstrated that copper coated with cellulose-rich nanocomposite containing 5 % CNF had a significantly decreased corrosion rate with an efficiency of 97.92 %. Background: Preoperative tumor aggressiveness biomarkers may help surgeons decide the extent of an operation. However, whether serum angiogenetic factors can be used to predict the prognosis of patients with differentiated thyroid cancer is still unclear. Methods: Seventy-six DTC patients were prospectively recruited. Preoperative serum samples were collected and measured for Tie-2, Ang-1, Ang-2, VEGF-A, and VEGF-D levels. The potential correlations between their serum levels and clinicopathologic features as well as their prognoses were analyzed. Results: Older age (>45 years old) and higher VEGF-A serum levels were independent predictors of extrathyroidal extension. The VEGF-D serum level was an independent factor for lymph node metastases and VEGF-A was an independent factor for distant metastases. None of these serum angiogenetic factors were significantly different between patients who were disease free and those with recurrences. The presence of lymph node metastases was the only independent factor for recurrence over the 2-year follow-up. Conclusion: Preoperative serum VEGF-A and VEGF-D levels were significantly elevated in DTC patients with distant and lymph node metastases. These findings, when combined with other clinicopathological factors, may help in surgical decisions.

Aphids, as hemipteran insects, reproduce via parthenogenesis and viviparity, resulting in rapid and exponential offspring production. To investigate the molecular mechanisms underlying parthenogenetic viviparity in asexual aphids, precise protein detection through immunostaining is essential. Our previous research demonstrated the need for proteinase K (PK) treatment to improve tissue permeability, enabling antibodies targeting the germ-cell marker Ap-Vas1 to access gastrulating and later-stage embryos. However, optimal PK digestion protocols have not been thoroughly explored. In this study, we propose strategies to optimize PK digestion conditions for early, middle, and late-stage pea aphid embryos, which have varying tissue thicknesses. Additionally, we extend the application of PK treatment to salivary glands, a representative somatic tissue, by optimizing conditions for antibody penetration against the salivary gland marker C002. To enhance spatial precision in signal detection, we provide a detailed protocol for tissue dissection specific to pea aphids, focusing on the preservation of tissue integrity. Electrodeposition of abundant metals to fabricate efficient and durable electrodes indicate a viable role in advancing renewable electrochemical energy tools. Herein, we deposit Co 9 S 8 -Ag-Ni 3 S 2 @NF on nickel foam (NF) to produce Co 9 S 8 -Ag-Ni 3 S 2 @NF as a exceedingly proficient electrode for oxygen evolution reaction (OER). The electrochemical investigation verifies that the Co 9 S 8 -Ag-Ni 3 S 2 @NF electrode reveals better electrocatalytic activity to OER because of its nanoflowers' open-pore morphology, reduced overpotential (η 10 =125 mV), smaller charge transfer resistance, long-term stability, and a synergistic effect between various components, which allows the reactants to be more easily absorbed and subsequently converted into gaseous products during the water electrolysis route. Density functional theory (DFT) calculation as well reveals the introduction of Ag (222) surface into the Co 9 S 8 (440)-Ni 3 S 2 (120) structure increases the electronic density of states (DOS) per unit cell of a system and increases the electrocatalytic activity of OER by considerably lowering the energy barriers of its intermediates. This review delves into the complex landscape of arsenic remediation, encompassing its chemical forms, occurrences, sources, and associated health risks. Advanced techniques, notably biomass-derived adsorbents, emerge as promising and cost-effective solutions. The exploration spans preparing and modifying biomass-derived adsorbents, unraveling their adsorption capacity, influencing factors, isotherms, kinetics, and thermodynamics. Noteworthy attention is given to plant-agricultural waste, algal-fungal-bacterial, and iron-modified biomass-derived adsorbents. The comprehensive discussion of the adsorption mechanism highlights the efficacy of low-cost biomass, particularly from plant, animal, and agricultural residues, offering a sustainable remedy for arsenic removal. Survivors of intimate partner violence (IPV) often experience violent blows to the head, face, and neck and/or strangulation that result in brain injury (BI). Researchers reviewed the de-identified forensic nursing examination records of 205 women. More than 88% of women were subjected to multiple mechanisms of injury with in excess of 60% experiencing strangulation. About 31% disclosed various symptoms consistent with BI. Women experiencing strangulation were 2.24 times more likely to report BI-related symptoms compared to those who reported no strangulation. Zika virus (ZIKV) and Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV) can cause permanent neurological damage and death, yet no approved drugs exist for these infections. Rhodiola crenulate, an herb used in traditional Chinese medicine for its antioxidation and antifatigue properties, was studied for its antiviral activity against ZIKV and JEV in vitro. The cytotoxicity of Rhodiola crenulata extract (RCE) was evaluated using the CCK-8 reagent. Antiviral effects of RCE were assessed in ZIKV-infected or JEV-infected Vero cells via quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR), Western blotting, fluorescent focus assay (FFA), and immunofluorescence assay (IFA). The cell-free antiviral effects of RCE were evaluated using an inactivation assay. To determine the stage of the viral life cycle affected by RCE, time-of-addition, binding, and entry assays were conducted. Three bioactive constituents of RCE (salidroside, tyrosol, and gallic acid) were tested for antiviral activity. RCE exhibited dose-dependent anti-ZIKV and anti-JEV activities at non-cytotoxic concentrations, which were likely achieved by disrupting viral binding and stability. Gallic acid exhibited antiviral activity against ZIKV and JEV. Our findings indicate that RCE disrupts viral binding and stability, presenting a potential strategy to treat ZIKV and JEV infections.

Water and energy are closely linked and are crucial for national security and economic development. Most water providers prioritise the stability of water supply and aim to reduce energy consumption under the premise of a stable supply. The average energy required to supply water in Taiwan in one of the lowest worldwide. In the Kaohsiung area, the average energy used by a water purification plant to provide 1 m 3 of water is 0.32 kWh/m 3 , lower than the world average of 0.37 kWh/m 3 . However, the most energy-consuming plant (Weng Park water purification plant) uses eight times as much energy as the least energy-consuming plant (Pingding water purification plant). Most studies focus on the energy required to provide 1 m 3 of water. This study combined attributes of four plants, such as the amount of energy consumed, quantity of water supplied, purified, and collected, and weather data. These data were used to model energy baselines for water providers. This paper presents the synthesis of visible light-responsive ternary nanocomposites composed of cuprous oxide (Cu 2 O), tungsten trioxide (WO 3 ), and titanium dioxide (TiO 2 ) with varying weight percentages (wt.%) of the Cu 2 O. The resulting Cu 2 O/WO 3 /TiO 2 (CWT) nanocomposites exhibited band gap energy ranging from 2.35 to 2.90 eV. Electrochemical and photoelectrochemical (PEC) studies confirmed a reduced recombination rate of photoexcited charge carriers in the CWT nanocomposites, facilitated by a direct Z-scheme heterojunction. The 0.50CWT nanocomposite demonstrated superior photodegradation activity (2.29 × 10 -2  min -1 ) against Reactive Black 5 (RB5) dye under visible light activation. Furthermore, the 0.50CWT nanocomposite exhibited excellent stability with 80.51% RB5 photodegradation retention after five cycles. The 0.50CWT electrode achieved a maximum specific capacitance of 66.32 F/g at 10 mA/g current density, with a capacitance retention of 95.17% after 1000 charge-discharge cycles, affirming its stable and efficient supercapacitor performance. Early detection and effective cancer treatment are critical to improving metastatic cancer cell diagnosis and management today. In particular, accurate qualitative diagnosis of metastatic cancer cell represents an important step in the diagnosis of cancer. Today, biosensors have been widely developed due to the daily need to measure different chemical and biological species. Biosensors are utilized to quantify chemical and biological phenomena by generating signals that are directly proportional to the quantity of the analyte present in the reaction. Biosensors are widely used in disease control, drug delivery, infection detection, detection of pathogenic microorganisms, and markers that indicate a specific disease in the body. These devices have been especially popular in the field of metastatic cancer cell diagnosis and treatment due to their portability, high sensitivity, high specificity, ease of use and short response time. Ischemic stroke can cause depolarized brain waves, termed peri-infarct depolarization (PID). Here, we evaluated whether topiramate, a neuroprotective drug used to treat epilepsy and alleviate migraine, has the potential to reduce PID. We employed a rat model of photothrombotic ischemia that can reliably and reproducibly induce PID and developed a combined electrocorticography-laser speckle contrast imaging (ECoG-LSCI) platform to monitor neuronal activity and cerebral blood flow (CBF) simultaneously. Topiramate administration after photothrombotic ischemia did not rescue CBF but significantly restored somatosensory evoked potentials in the forelimb area of the primary somatosensory cortex. Moreover, infarct volume was investigated by 2,3,5-triphenyltetrazolium chloride (TTC) staining, and neuronal survival was evaluated by Nissl staining. In pursuit of advancing photocatalysts for superior performance in water treatment and clean energy generation, researchers are increasingly focusing on layered double hydroxides (LDHs) which have garnered significant attention due to their customizable properties, morphologies, distinctive 2D layered structure and flexible options for modifying anions and cations. No review has previously delved specifically into ZnCr and NiCr LDH-based photocatalysts and therefore, this review highlights the recent surge in ZnCr and NiCr-based LDHs as potential photocatalysts for their applications in water purification and renewable energy generation. The structural and fundamental characteristics of layered double hydroxides and especially ZnCr-LDHs and NiCr-LDHs are outlined. Further, the various synthesis techniques for the preparation of ZnCr-LDHs, NiCr-LDHs and their composite and heterostructure materials have been briefly discussed. The applicability of ZnCr-LDH and NiCr-LDH based photocatalysts in tackling significant issues in water treatment and sustainable energy generation is the main emphasis of this review. It focuses on photocatalytic degradation of organic pollutants in wastewater, elucidating the principles and advancements for enhancing the efficiency of these materials. It also explores their role in H 2 production through water splitting, conversion of CO 2 into valuable fuels and NH 3 synthesis from N 2 , shedding light on their potential for clean energy solutions. Background: Thyroid nodules (TNs) often require intervention due to symptomatic or cosmetic concerns. Radiofrequency ablation (RFA) has shown promise as a treatment option, offering potential advantages without neck scars. Recently, the scarless treatment alternative of transoral endoscopic thyroidectomy vestibular approach (TOETVA) has emerged. When surgery can be performed in a scarless manner, it remains unclear whether ablation is still the preferred treatment choice. This study aims to compare the safety, efficacy, and patient satisfaction of RFA and TOETVA., Study Design: A retrospective data analysis was conducted on patients treated with RFA or TOETVA for unilateral benign TNs between December 2016 and September 2021. Propensity score matching was employed to create comparable groups. Various clinicopathologic parameters, treatment outcomes, and costs were assessed., Results: Of the 2814 nonfunctional thyroid nodules treated during this period, 642 were benign and unilateral. A total of 121 and 100 patients underwent thermal ablation and transoral endoscopic thyroidectomy, respectively. After matching, 84 patients were selected for each group. Both RFA and TOETVA demonstrated low complication rates, with unique complications associated with each procedure. Treatment time (30.8±13.6 vs. 120.7±36.5 min, P <0.0001) was shorter in the RFA group. Patient satisfaction (significant improvement: 89.3% vs. 61.9%, P <0.0001) and cosmetic results (cosmetic score 1-2: 100.0% vs. 54.76%, P <0.0001) favored TOETVA. RFA was found to be less costly for a single treatment, but the cost of retreatment should be considered. The histological diagnoses post-TOETVA revealed malignancies in 9 out of 84 cases, underscoring the significance of follow-up assessments., Conclusion: Scarless procedures, RFA and TOETVA, are effective for treating unilateral benign TNs, each with unique advantages and drawbacks. While RFA is cheaper for a single treatment, TOETVA offers superior cosmetic results and patient satisfaction. Further research is needed to evaluate long-term safety and cost-effectiveness. Rhodanine is a heterocyclic organic compound that has been investigated for its potential biomedical applications, particularly in drug discovery. Rhodanine derivatives have been examined as the medication options for numerous illnesses, including cancer, inflammation, and infectious diseases. Some rhodanine derivatives have also shown promising activity against drug-resistant strains of bacteria and viruses. One of these derivatives is polyrhodanine (PR), a conducting polymer that has gained attention for its biomedical properties. This review article summarises the latest advancements in creating biomaterials based on PR for biosensing, antimicrobial treatments, and anticancer therapies. The distinctive characteristics of PR, such as biocompatibility, biodegradability, and good conductivity, render it an attractive candidate for these applications. The article also explores obstacles and potential future paths for advancing biomaterials made with PR, including synthesis modifications, characterisation techniques, and in vivo evaluation of biocompatibility and efficacy. This study worked with Chunghwa Telecom to collect data from 17 rooftop solar photovoltaic plants installed on top of office buildings, warehouses, and computer rooms in northern, central and southern Taiwan from January 2021 to June 2023. A data pre-processing method combining linear regression and K Nearest Neighbor (k-NN) was proposed to estimate missing values for weather and power generation data. Outliers were processed using historical data and parameters highly correlated with power generation volumes were used to train an artificial intelligence (AI) model. To verify the reliability of this data pre-processing method, this study developed multilayer perceptron (MLP) and long short-term memory (LSTM) models to make short-term and medium-term power generation forecasts for the 17 solar photovoltaic plants. Study results showed that the proposed data pre-processing method reduced normalized root mean square error (nRMSE) for short- and medium-term forecasts in the MLP model by 17.47% and 11.06%, respectively, and also reduced the nRMSE for short- and medium-term forecasts in the LSTM model by 20.20% and 8.03%, respectively., Competing Interests: The authors declare that they have no known competing financial interests or personal relationships that could have appeared to influence the work reported in this paper., (© 2024 The Authors.)

Since the establishment of the first global refinery in 1856, crude oil has remained one of the most lucrative natural resources worldwide. However, during the extraction process from reservoirs, crude oil gets contaminated with sediments, water, and other impurities. The presence of pressure, shear forces, and surface-active compounds in crude oil leads to the formation of unwanted oil/water emulsions. These emulsions can take the form of water-in-oil (W/O) emulsions, where water droplets disperse continuously in crude oil, or oil-in-water (O/W) emulsions, where crude oil droplets are suspended in water. To prevent the spread of water and inorganic salts, these emulsions need to be treated and eliminated. In existing literature, different demulsification procedures have shown varying outcomes in effectively treating oil/water emulsions. The observed discrepancies have been attributed to various factors such as temperature, salinity, pH, droplet size, and emulsifier concentrations. It is crucial to identify the most effective demulsification approach for oil/water separation while adhering to environmental regulations and minimizing costs for the petroleum sector. Therefore, this study aims to explore and review recent advancements in two popular demulsification techniques: chemical demulsification and magnetic nanoparticles-based (MNP) demulsification. The advantages and disadvantages of each technique are assessed, with the magnetic approach emerging as the most promising due to its desirable efficiency and compliance with environmental and economic concerns. The transition towards renewable energy sources necessitates efficient energy storage systems to meet growing demands. Electrochemical capacitors, particularly electric double-layer capacitors (EDLCs), show promising performance due to their superior properties. However, the presence of resistance limits their performance. This study explores using an external magnetic field to mitigate ion transfer resistance and enhance capacitance in magnetite-reduced graphene oxide (M-rGO) nanocomposites. M-rGO nanocomposites with varying weight ratios of magnetite were synthesized and comprehensively characterized. Characterization highlighted the difference in certain parameters such as C/O ratio, the Id/Ig ratio, surface area and particle size that contribute towards alteration of M-rGO's capacitive behaviour. Electrochemical studies demonstrated that applying a magnetic field increased specific capacitance by approximately 20% and reduced resistance by 33%. Notably, a maximum specific capacitance of 16.36 F/g (at a scan rate of 0.1 V/s) and 27.24 F/g (at a current density of 0.25 A/g) was achieved. These improvements were attributed to enhanced ion transportation and migration at the electrode/electrolyte interface, lowering overall resistance. However, it was also observed that the aforementioned parameters can also limit the M-rGO's performance, resulting in saturated capacitive state despite a reduced resistance. Nanotechnology has emerged as a pivotal tool in biomedical research, particularly in developing advanced sensing platforms for disease diagnosis and therapeutic monitoring. Since gold nanoparticles are biocompatible and have special optical characteristics, they are excellent choices for surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) sensing devices. Integrating fluorescence characteristics further enhances their utility in real-time imaging and tracking within biological systems. The synergistic combination of SERS and fluorescence enables sensitive and selective detection of biomolecules at trace levels, providing a versatile platform for early cancer diagnosis and drug monitoring. In cancer detection, AuNPs facilitate the specific targeting of cancer biomarkers, allowing for early-stage diagnosis and personalized treatment strategies. The enhanced sensitivity of SERS, coupled with the tunable fluorescence properties of AuNPs, offers a powerful tool for the identification of cancer cells and their microenvironment. This dual-mode detection not only improves diagnostic accuracy but also enables the monitoring of treatment response and disease progression. In drug detection, integrating AuNPs with SERS provides a robust platform for identifying and quantifying pharmaceutical compounds. The unique spectral fingerprints obtained through SERS enable the discrimination of drug molecules even in complex biological matrices. Furthermore, the fluorescence property of AuNPs makes it easier to track medication distribution in real-time, maximizing therapeutic effectiveness and reducing adverse effects. By using the complementary effects of targeted drug release and light-induced cytotoxicity, SERS-guided drug delivery and photodynamic therapy (PDT) can increase the effectiveness of treatment against cancer cells. In conclusion, the utilization of gold fluorescence nanoparticles in conjunction with SERS holds tremendous potential for revolutionizing cancer detection, drug analysis, and photodynamic therapy. There is much interest in developing metal-free halogenated graphene such as fluorinated graphene for various catalytic applications. In this work, a fluorine-doped graphene oxide photocatalyst was investigated for photocatalytic oxidation (PCO) of a volatile organic compound (VOC), namely gaseous methanol. The fluorination process of graphene oxide (GO) was carried out via a novel and facile solution-based photoirradiation method. The fluorine atoms were doped on the surface of the GO in a semi-ionic C-F bond configuration. This presence of the semi-ionic C-F bonds induced a dramatic 7-fold increment of the hole charge carrier density of the photocatalyst. The fluorinated GO photocatalyst exhibited excellent photodegradation up to 93.5% or 0.493 h -1 according pseudo-first order kinetics for methanol. In addition, 91.7% of methanol was mineralized into harmless carbon dioxide (CO 2 ) under UV-A irradiation. Furthermore, the photocatalyst demonstrated good stability in five cycles of methanol PCO. Besides methanol, other VOCs such as acetone and formaldehyde were also photodegraded. The Taiwan air quality monitoring network (TAQMN) and the AirBox network both monitor PM 2.5 in Taiwan. The TAQMN, managed by Taiwan's Environmental Protection Administration (EPA), provides high-quality PM 2.5 measurements at 77 monitoring stations. The AirBox network launched more recently consists of low-cost, small internet-of-things (IoT) microsensors (i.e., AirBoxes) at thousands of locations. While the AirBox network provides broad spatial coverage, its measurements are unreliable and require calibrations. However, applying a universal calibration procedure to all AirBoxes does not work well because the calibration line varies with local factors, including the chemical compositions of PM 2.5 , which are not homogeneous in space. Therefore, different calibrations are needed at different locations to adapt to their local environments. Unfortunately, AirBoxes and EPA locations are misaligned, challenging the calibration task. In this paper, we propose a spatial model with spatially varying coefficients to account for the heterogeneity in the data. Our method gives spatially adaptive calibrations of AirBoxes and produces accurate PM 2.5 concentration estimates with their error bars at any location, incorporating two types of measurements. In addition, the proposed method is robust to outliers, requires no colocated data, and provides calibration formulas for new AirBoxes once they are added to the network. We illustrate our approach using hourly PM 2.5 data in 2020. After the calibration, the results show that the PM 2.5 prediction improves by about 38%-68% in root-mean-squared prediction error. The gut microbiome is an important modulator of the host immune system. In this study, we found that altering the gut microbiome by oral vancomycin increases liver invariant NKT (iNKT) cell function. Enhanced iNKT cytokine production and activation marker expression were observed in vancomycin-treated mice following both Ag-specific and Ag-independent in vivo iNKT stimulations, with a more prominent effect in the liver than in the spleen. Fecal transplantation studies demonstrated that the iNKT functional regulation is mediated by altering the gut microbiome but uncoupled from the modulation of iNKT cell population size. Interestingly, when stimulated in vitro, iNKT cells from vancomycin-treated mice did not show increased activation, suggesting an indirect regulation. iNKT cells expressed high levels of IL-18 receptor, and vancomycin increased the expression of IL-18 in the liver. Blocking IL-18 by neutralizing Ab or using genetically deficient mice attenuated the enhanced iNKT activation. Liver macrophages were identified as a major source of IL-18. General macrophage depletion by clodronate abolished this iNKT activation. Using anti-CSF-1R depletion or LyzCrexCSF-1RLsL-DTR mice identified CSF-1R+ macrophages as a critical modulator of iNKT function. Vancomycin treatment had no effect on iNKT cell function in vivo in IL-18 knockout macrophage reconstituted mice. Together, our results demonstrate that the gut microbiome controls liver iNKT function via regulating CSF-1R+ macrophages to produce IL-18.

Textile dyeing wastewater becomes one of the root causes of environmental pollution. Titanium dioxide (TiO 2 ) is one of the photocatalysts that shows prominent organic dye photodegradation ability. In this study, a porous tungsten oxide (WO 3 )/TiO 2 composite was prepared through ultrasonic-assisted solvothermal technique with varying amounts of WO 3 ranging from 0.25 to 5 weight % (wt.%). The prepared 0.50 wt.% WO 3 /TiO 2 (0.50WTi) composite exhibited the highest photodegradation activity (4.39 × 10 -2 min -1 ) and complete mineralization in chemical oxygen demand (COD) reading towards 30 mg.L -1 of Reactive Black 5 (RB5) dye under 60 min of light irradiation. Effects of large surface area, small crystallite size, high pore volume and size, and low electron-hole pair recombination rate attributed to the superiority of 0.50WTi. Besides, 0.50WTi could be reused, showing 86.50% of RB5 photodegradation at the fifth cycle. Scavenger study demonstrated that photogenerated hole (h + ) was the main active species of 0.50WTi to initiate the RB5 photodegradation. Cytotoxicity assessment determined the readings of half-maximal inhibitory concentration (IC 50 ) were 1 mg.mL -1 and 0.61 mg.mL -1 (24 and 72 h of incubations) for the 0.50WTi composite., (© 2021. In the face of threats, animals adapt their behaviors to cope with the situation. Under such circumstances, irrelevant behaviors are usually suppressed. In this study, we examined whether food-seeking motivation would decrease under activation of the amygdala, an important nucleus in the regulation of stress response in the central nervous system, or after a physical acute stress session. In Experiment 1, we pharmacologically activated the basolateral nucleus (BLA) or the central nucleus of the amygdala (CeA) before a cue-induced reinstatement test in rats. Our results showed that activation of the BLA or the CeA abolished cue-induced motivation toward food rewards, while locomotor activity and free food intake were not affected. In Experiments 2 and 3, we further assessed anxiety and despair levels, as well as cue-induced reinstatement, after a single prolonged footshock-induced acute stress in rats. Behaviorally, acute stress did not affect anxiety level, despair level, or cue-induced motivation toward food rewards. Physiologically, there was no difference in cellular activities of the amygdala immediately after acute stress. To conclude, our results suggested that pharmacological activation of the amygdala decreased cue-induced motivation toward food reward. Background: Lower limb malalignment is associated with gait kinematics, but there is limited information on the relationship between gait kinematics and tibial torsion in individuals with knee osteoarthritis (OA). This study aimed to investigate possible associations between tibial torsion and early stance kinematics during gait in people with mild and moderate medial knee OA., Methods: Forty-seven participants (age: 62.1 ± 6.0 years; female/male: 37/10) diagnosed with medial knee OA were recruited from a regional hospital. Thirty of them had mild and seventeen had moderate knee OA. Lower limb alignment including tibial torsion and valgus/varus alignment were assessed by an EOS biplaner X-ray system with participants in weight-bearing position. Lower limb kinematics during gait was captured using the Vicon motion analysis system. The associations were estimated by partial Pearson correlation coefficient test., Results: Our results indicated that external tibial torsion was related to early stance knee flexion excursion in participants with moderate knee OA (r = -0.58, p = 0.048), but not in participants with mild knee OA (r = 0.34, p = 0.102). External tibial torsion was associated with external foot progression angle (r = 0.48, p = 0.001), and knee varus/valgus alignment was associated with knee flexion excursion (r = -0.39, p = 0.010) in all participants., Conclusions: Both horizontal and frontal lower limb alignments were associated with knee flexion excursion at early stance of gait cycle in participants with medial knee OA. The distal rotational profile of lower limb would likely affect knee motion in sagittal plane. Background: Surgical plumes in small cavities, such as transoral endoscopic thyroid surgery, have never been satisfactorily resolved. We aimed to study the use of a smoke evacuation system and evaluate its efficacy, including the field of view and operating time., Study Design: We retrospectively reviewed 327 consecutive patients who underwent endoscopic thyroidectomy. They were separated into 2 groups based on whether the smoke evacuation system was used. To reduce the possible experience bias, only patients 4 months before and after implementing the evacuation system were included. Recorded endoscopic videos were evaluated, including the field of view, the incidence of scope clearance, and time spent during air-pocket creation., Results: Overall, there were 64 patients with a median age of 43.59 years and a median body mass index of 22.87 kg/m 2 , including 54 women, 21 thyroid cancers, and 61 hemithyroidectomies. The operative duration was comparable between the groups. The group where the evacuation system was used scored more as good in terms of endoscopic views (8/32, 25% vs 1/32, 3.13%, P = .01), fewer incidences of endoscope lens pull out for clearance (3.5 vs 6.0 times, P < .01), less time for clear view after energy device activation (2.67 vs 5.00 seconds, P < .01), and less time spent (8.67 vs 12.38 minutes, P < .01) during air-pocket creation., Conclusion: In conjunction with the synergy function of energy devices, evacuators enhance the field of view and optimize the time spent in the real clinical setting of low-pressure and small-space endoscopic thyroid procedures, in addition to the benefit of reducing smoke harm., (Copyright © 2023 The Author(s). Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have proven to be very effective carriers for drug delivery in various biological applications. In recent years, the development of hybrid nanostructures has made significant progress, including developing an innovative MOF-loaded nanocomposite with a highly porous structure and low toxicity that can be used to fabricate core-shell nanocomposites by combining complementary materials. This review study discusses using MOF materials in cancer treatment, imaging, and antibacterial effects, focusing on oral cancer cells. For patients with oral cancer, we offer a regular program for accurately designing and producing various anticancer and antibacterial agents to achieve maximum effectiveness and the lowest side effects. Also, we want to ensure that the anticancer agent works optimally and has as few side effects as possible before it is tested in vitro and in vivo. It is also essential that new anticancer drugs for cancer treatment are tested for efficacy and safety before they go into further research.

While the rapid advancement of immunotherapies has revolutionized cancer treatment, only a small fraction of patients derive clinical benefit. Eradication of large, established tumors appears to depend on engaging and activating both innate and adaptive immune system components to mount a rigorous and comprehensive immune response. Identifying such agents is a high unmet medical need, because they are sparse in the therapeutic landscape of cancer treatment. Here, we report that IL-36 cytokine can engage both innate and adaptive immunity to remodel an immune-suppressive tumor microenvironment (TME) and mediate potent antitumor immune responses via signaling in host hematopoietic cells. Mechanistically, IL-36 signaling modulates neutrophils in a cell-intrinsic manner to greatly enhance not only their ability to directly kill tumor cells but also promote T and NK cell responses. Thus, while poor prognostic outcomes are typically associated with neutrophil enrichment in the TME, our results highlight the pleiotropic effects of IL-36 and its therapeutic potential to modify tumor-infiltrating neutrophils into potent effector cells and engage both the innate and adaptive immune system to achieve durable antitumor responses in solid tumors.

Environmental pollution has become a worldwide issue. Rapid industrial and agricultural practices have increased organic contaminants in water supplies. Hence, many strategies have been developed to address this concern. In order to supply clean water for various applications, high-performance treatment technology is required to effectively remove organic and inorganic contaminants. Utilizing photocatalytic membrane reactors (PMRs) has shown promise as a viable alternative process in the water and wastewater industry due to its efficiency, low cost, simplicity, and low environmental impact. PMRs are commonly categorized into two main categories: those with the photocatalyst suspended in solution and those with the photocatalyst immobilized in/on a membrane. Herein, the working and fouling mechanisms in PMRs membranes are investigated; the interplay of fouling and photocatalytic activity and the development of fouling prevention strategies are elucidated; and the significance of photocatalysis in membrane fouling mechanisms such as pore plugging and cake layering is thoroughly explored.

Supermicrosurgical lymphaticovenous anastomosis (LVA) is a minimally invasive surgical technique that creates bypasses between lymphatic vessels and veins, thereby improving lymphatic drainage and reducing lymphedema. This retrospective single-center study included 137 patients who underwent non-intubated LVA in southern Taiwan. A total of 119 patients were enrolled and assigned to two study groups: the geriatric (age ≥ 75 years, n = 23) and non-geriatric groups (age < 75 years, n = 96). The primary outcome was to investigate and compare the arousal and maintenance of the propofol effect-site concentration (Ce) using an electroencephalographic density spectral array (EEG DSA) in both groups. The results showed that the geriatric group required less propofol (4.05 [3.73-4.77] mg/kg/h vs. 5.01 [4.34-5.92] mg/kg/h, p = 0.001) and alfentanil (4.67 [2.53-5.82] μg/kg/h vs. 6.68 [3.85-8.77] μg/kg/h, p = 0.047). The median arousal Ce of propofol among the geriatric group (0.6 [0.5-0.7] μg/mL) was significantly lower than that in patients aged ≤ 54 years (1.3 [1.2-1.4] μg/mL, p < 0.001), 55-64 years (0.9 [0.8-1.0] μg/mL, p < 0.001), and <75 years (0.9 [0.8-1.2] μg/mL, p < 0.001). In summary, the combined use of EEG DSA provides the objective and depth of adequate sedation for extensive non-intubated anesthesia in late-elderly patients who undergo LVA without perioperative complications.

Because of the growing number of clinical antibiotic resistance cases in recent years, novel antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) may be ideal for next-generation antibiotics. This study trained a Wasserstein generative adversarial network with gradient penalty (WGAN-GP) based on known AMPs to generate novel AMP candidates. The quality of the GAN-designed peptides was evaluated in silico, and eight of them, named GAN-pep 1-8, were selected by an AMP Artificial Intelligence (AI) classifier and synthesized for further experiments. Disc diffusion testing and minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) determinations were used to identify the antibacterial effects of the synthesized GAN-designed peptides. Seven of the eight synthesized GAN-designed peptides displayed antibacterial activity. Additionally, GAN-pep 3 and GAN-pep 8 presented a broad spectrum of antibacterial effects and were effective against antibiotic-resistant bacteria strains, such as methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus and carbapenem-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa . GAN-pep 3, the most promising GAN-designed peptide candidate, had low MICs against all the tested bacteria. In brief, our approach shows an efficient way to discover AMPs effective against general and antibiotic-resistant bacteria strains. In addition, such a strategy also allows other novel functional peptides to be quickly designed, identified, and synthesized for validation on the wet bench.

The current work aimed to investigate the degradation of the triclocarban (TCC) in aqueous solution using a modified zeolite/TiO 2 composite (MZTC) synthesized by applying the electrochemical anodization (ECA). The synthesis process was conducted at different voltages (10, 40, and 60) V in 1 h and using electrophoresis deposition (EPD) in doping zeolite. The MZTC was covered with the array ordered, smooth and optimum elongated nanotubes with 5.1 μm of the length, 120.3 nm of the inner diameter 14.5 nm of the wall thickness with pure titanium and crystalline titania as determined by FESEM/EDS, and XRD. The kinetic study by following Langmuir-Hinshelwood(L-H) model and pseudo first order, the significant constant rate was obtained at pH 11 which was 0.079 ppm/min, 0.75 cm 2 of MZTC catalyst loading size achieved 0.076 ppm/min and 5 ppm of TCC initial concentration reached 0.162 ppm/min. The high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) analysis for mechanism study of TCC photocatalytic degradation revealed eleven intermediate products after the whole process of photocatalysis. In regard of toxicology assessment by the bacteria which is Photobacterium phosphoreum, the obtained concentration of TCC at minute 60 was less satisfied with remained 0.36 ppm of TCC was detected indicates that the concentration was above allowable level. G-quadruplexes (G4s) are important in regulating DNA replication, repair and RNA transcription through interactions with specialized proteins. Dbp2 has been identified as a G4 DNA binding protein from Saccharomyces cerevisiae cell lysates. The majority of G4 motifs in Saccharomyces cerevisiae display 5-50 nt loops, only a few have 1-2 nt loops. Human DDX5 could unfold MycG4 DNA, whether Dbp2 also participates in remodeling G4 motifs with short loops in Saccharomyces cerevisiae remains elusive. Here we find that Dbp2 prefers G-rich substrates and binds MycG4 with a high affinity. Dbp2 possesses a dual function for different conformations of MycG4, destabilizing the folded MycG4 and inducing further folding of the unfolded MycG4. Similarly, DDX5 can unfold MycG4, but it exhibits a weaker MycG4 folding-promoting activity relative to Dbp2. Furthermore, Dbp2 facilitates DNA annealing activity in the absence of ATP, suggesting that Dbp2 can work on DNA substrates and possibly participate in DNA metabolism. The undesirable side effects of conventional chemotherapy are one of the major problems associated with cancer treatment. Recently, with the development of novel nanomaterials, tumor-targeted therapies have been invented in order to achieve more specific cancer treatment with reduced unfavorable side effects of chemotherapic agents on human cells. However, the clinical application of nanomedicines has some shortages, such as the reduced ability to cross biological barriers and undesirable side effects in normal cells. In this order, bioinspired materials are developed to minimize the related side effects due to their excellent biocompatibility and higher accumulation therapies. As bioinspired and biomimetic materials are mainly composed of a nanometric functional agent and a biologic component, they can possess both the physicochemical properties of nanomaterials and the advantages of biologic agents, such as prolonged circulation time, enhanced biocompatibility, immune modulation, and specific targeting for cancerous cells. Among the nanomaterials, asymmetric nanomaterials have gained attention as they provide a larger surface area with more active functional sites compared to symmetric nanomaterials. Additionally, the asymmetric nanomaterials are able to function as two or more distinct components due to their asymmetric structure. The mentioned properties result in unique physiochemical properties of asymmetric nanomaterials, which makes them desirable materials for anti-cancer drug delivery systems or cancer bio-imaging systems. In this review, we discuss the use of bioinspired and biomimetic materials in the treatment of cancer, with a special focus on asymmetric nanoparticle anti-cancer agents.

Tetracycline (TC) antibiotic removal from water bodies is important to provide clean water and sanitation. Mesoporous graphitic carbon nitride (GCN) photocatalyst derived from three different types of precursors manages to remove TC effectively under visible light irradiation. Among urea, thiourea, and melamine precursors, melamine-prepared GCN (MGCN) via thermal polymerization has the highest efficiency to photodegrade tetracycline (TC) antibiotics up to 99.5% (0.0122 min -1 ) within 240 min. The COD for TC removal by using MGCN was up to 77.5% after 240 min of degradation. This is due to the slow charge recombination and rapid charge carrier migration. The MGCN encounters different properties such as high crystallinity, dense structure allowing fast charges migration, and nitrogen vacancies that create a defect state that suppresses charge recombination. It was found that the conduction band (CB) of MGCN was located at a more negative position (E CB  = -0.33 V) than (O 2 /O 2 •- ) and the valence band (VB) was placed at a more positive position (E VB  = 2.30 V) than (H 2 O/OH • ), which allows generation of both radicals for photodegradation. Based on the cell viability test, the photodegraded TC in the water how non-toxicity toward Balb/c 3T3 cells after being irradiated (λ > 420 nm) for 240 min under visible light. Biomass-derived cellulose hybrid composite materials are promising for application in the field of photocatalysis due to their excellent properties. The excellent properties between biomass-derived cellulose and photocatalyst materials was induced by biocompatibility and high hydrophilicity of the cellulose components. Biomass-derived cellulose exhibited huge amount of electron-rich hydroxyl group which could promote superior interaction with the photocatalyst. Hence, the original sources and types of cellulose, synthesizing methods, and fabrication cellulose composites together with applications are reviewed in this paper. Different types of biomasses such as biochar, activated carbon (AC), cellulose, chitosan, and chitin were discussed. Cellulose is categorized as plant cellulose, bacterial cellulose, algae cellulose, and tunicate cellulose. The extraction and purification steps of cellulose were explained in detail. Next, the common photocatalyst nanomaterials including titanium dioxide (TiO 2 ), zinc oxide (ZnO), graphitic carbon nitride (g-C 3 N 4 ), and graphene, were introduced based on their distinct structures, advantages, and limitations in water treatment applications. The synthesizing method of TiO 2 -based photocatalyst includes hydrothermal synthesis, sol-gel synthesis, and chemical vapor deposition synthesis. Different synthesizing methods contribute toward different TiO 2 forms in terms of structural phases and surface morphology. The fabrication and performance of cellulose composite catalysts give readers a better understanding of the incorporation of cellulose in the development of sustainable and robust photocatalysts. The modifications including metal doping, non-metal doping, and metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) showed improvements on the degradation performance of cellulose composite catalysts. The information and evidence on the fabrication techniques of biomass-derived cellulose hybrid photocatalyst and its recent application in the field of water treatment were reviewed thoroughly in this review paper.

In this paper, we present the synthesis of C@Fe 3 O 4 -MoO 3 binary composite were prepared through the facile hydrothermal process. The ultrasonic aided adsorption efficacy was evaluated by studying triphenylmethane dye's adsorption potential. The ultrasonic aided adsorption capacity towards crystal violet was 993.6 mg/g, which is remarkably higher and best fitted with the Langmuir isotherm model and followed pseudo-second-order kinetics. The electrochemical studies working electrode have been prepared with 80 wt% active material, 10 wt% carbon black, and 10% polyvinylidene difluoride to evaluate energy storage characteristics. The morphology and metal oxidation states of atmospheric aerosols are pertinent to their formation processes and ensuing interactions with surrounding gases, vapors and other environments upon deposition, such as human respiratory tract, soil and water. Although much progress has been made in recent years through single-particle techniques, considerably less is known with respect to the three-dimensional (3D) internal morphology of single atmospheric aerosol particles due to the limited penetration depth of electron microscopy. In this study, for the first time, a novel synchrotron-based transmission X-ray microscopy (TXM) methodology has been developed to visualize the 3D internal chemical mixing state and structure of single particles. The results show that the TXM is more applicable to the imaging of solid particles containing high-density elements, e.g., iron (Fe), aluminum (Al), silicone (Si), carbon (C) and sulfur (S), and/or solid particles of sizes larger than about 100 nm. In addition, the TXM is capable to reveal the fine 3D topographic features of single particles. The derived 3D internal and external information would be difficult to discern in the 2D images from electron microscopy. The TXM 3D images illustrate that aerosol particles exhibit complex internal mixing state and structure, e.g., homogeneously-, heterogeneously-mixed, multiple inclusions, fibrous, porous, and core-shell configuration. When coupled with the synchrotron-based X-ray fluorescence spectrometry (XRF) and absorption near-edge spectroscopy (XANES) of an X-ray nanoprobe in the energy range of 4-15 keV, the 3D morphology of single particles is further supplemented with the spatial distribution and oxidation sates of selected elements, including Fe, vanadium (V), manganese (Mn), chromium (Cr) and arsenic (As). Water pollution has been a prevalent issue globally for some time. Some pollutants are released into the water system without treatment, making the water not suitable for consumption. This problem may lead to more grave problems in the future including the destruction of the ecosystem along with the organisms inhabiting it, and illness and diseases endangering human health. Conventional methods have been implemented to remove hazardous pollutants such as dyes, heavy metals, and oil but are incapable of doing so due to economic restraints and the inability to degrade the pollutants, leading to secondary pollution. Photocatalysis is a more recently applied concept and is proven to be able to completely remove and degrade pollutants into simpler organic compounds. Titanium dioxide (TiO 2 ) is a fine example of a photocatalyst owing to its cost-effectiveness and superb efficiency. However, issues such as the high recombination rate of photogenerated electrons along with positive holes while being only limited to UV irradiation need to be addressed. Carbonaceous materials such as graphene oxide (GO) can overcome such issues by reducing the recombination rate and providing a platform for adsorption accompanied by photocatalytic degradation of TiO 2 . The history and development of the synthesis of GO will be discussed, followed by the methods used for GO/TiO 2 synthesis. The hybrid of GO/TiO 2 as a photocatalyst has received some attention in the application of wastewater treatment due to its efficiency and it being environmentally benign. This review paper thereby aims to identify the origins of different pollutants followed by the sickness they may potentially inflict. Recent findings, including that GO/TiO 2 -related nanocomposites can remove pollutants from the water system, and on the photodegradation mechanism for pollutants including aromatic dyes, heavy metal and crude oil, will be briefly discussed in this review. Moreover, several crucial factors that affect the performance of photocatalysis in pollutant removal will be discussed as well. Therefore, this paper presents a critical review of recent achievements in the use of GO/TiO 2 -related nanocomposites and photocatalysis for removing various pollutants in wastewater treatment.

Spondylolisthesis refers to the displacement of a vertebral body relative to the vertrabra below it, which can cause radicular symptoms, back pain or leg pain. It usually occurs in the lower lumbar spine, especially in women over the age of 60. The prevalence of spondylolisthesis is expected to rise as the global population ages, requiring prudent action to promptly identify it in clinical settings. The goal of this study was to develop a computer-aided diagnostic (CADx) algorithm, LumbarNet, and to evaluate the efficiency of this model in automatically detecting spondylolisthesis from lumbar X-ray images. Built upon U-Net, feature fusion module (FFM) and collaborating with (i) a P-grade, (ii) a piecewise slope detection (PSD) scheme, and (iii) a dynamic shift (DS), LumbarNet was able to analyze complex structural patterns on lumbar X-ray images, including true lateral, flexion, and extension lateral views. Our results showed that the model achieved a mean intersection over union (mIOU) value of 0.88 in vertebral region segmentation and an accuracy of 88.83% in vertebral slip detection. We conclude that LumbarNet outperformed U-Net, a commonly used method in medical image segmentation, and could serve as a reliable method to identify spondylolisthesis.

Platelets, the often-overlooked component of the immune system, have been shown to promote tumor growth. Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a common disease in the Western world and rising risk for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Unexpectedly, we observed that platelets can inhibit the growth of established HCC in NAFLD mice. Through pharmacological inhibition and genetic depletion of P2Y12 as well as in vivo transfusion of wild-type (WT) or CD40L -/- platelets, we demonstrate that the anti-tumor function of platelets is mediated through P2Y12-dependent CD40L release, which leads to CD8 + T cell activation by the CD40 receptor. Unlike P2Y12 inhibition, blocking platelets with aspirin does not prevent platelet CD40L release nor accelerate HCC in NAFLD mice. Similar findings were observed in liver metastasis models. All together, our study reveals a complex role of platelets in tumor regulation. In today's world, the use of biosensors occupies a special place in a variety of fields such as agriculture and industry. New biosensor technologies can identify biological compounds accurately and quickly. One of these technologies is the phenomenon of surface plasmon resonance (SPR) in the development of biosensors based on their optical properties, which allow for very sensitive and specific measurements of biomolecules without time delay. Therefore, various nanomaterials have been introduced for the development of SPR biosensors to achieve a high degree of selectivity and sensitivity. The diagnosis of deadly diseases such as cancer depends on the use of nanotechnology. Smart MXene quantum dots (SMQDs), a new class of nanomaterials that are developing at a rapid pace, are perfect for the development of SPR biosensors due to their many advantageous properties. Moreover, SMQDs are two-dimensional (2D) inorganic segments with a limited number of atomic layers that exhibit excellent properties such as high conductivity, plasmonic, and optical properties. Therefore, SMQDs, with their unique properties, are promising contenders for biomedicine, including cancer diagnosis/treatment, biological sensing/imaging, antigen detection, etc. In this review, SPR biosensors based on SMQDs applied in biomedical applications are discussed. To achieve this goal, an introduction to SPR, SPR biosensors, and SMQDs (including their structure, surface functional groups, synthesis, and properties) is given first; then, the fabrication of hybrid nanoparticles (NPs) based on SMQDs and the biomedical applications of SMQDs are discussed. In the next step, SPR biosensors based on SMQDs and advanced 2D SMQDs-based nanobiosensors as ultrasensitive detection tools are presented. This review proposes the use of SMQDs for the improvement of SPR biosensors with high selectivity and sensitivity for biomedical applications.

The toxic wastewater effluents from textile dyes have been a significant environmental threat worldwide in recent decades. Against this backdrop, this study investigates the performance of C@Fe 3 O 4 -MoO 3 -rGO as a sonoadsorbent to ameliorate crystal violet (CV) dye from the aqua matrix and further explores its potential as an electrode in supercapacitor applications. The phase purity, crystal structure, surface morphology, thermal stability and magnetic behaviour characteristics of the composite were studied using various characterisation techniques such as powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), Raman Spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), Field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), High-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and Vibrating-sample magnetometry (VSM). From the Langmuir isotherm model, the synthesised sonoadsorbent exhibited a maximum adsorption capacity of 1664.26 mg/g for crystal violet, which is remarkably high. Further, to its inherited magnetic characteristics, the composite can be easily separated from the solution by using an external magnet. Furthermore, the working electrode was synthesised with 80% active material, 10% carbon black, and 10% polyvinylidene difluoride to investigate its suitability in supercapacitor applications. The C@Fe 3 O 4 -MoO 3 -rGO composite exhibited an excellent capacitance value of 180.36 F/g with commendable cycling stability, making it suitable as a potential cathode material for the next generation supercapacitors., (Copyright © 2022 Elsevier Inc. The local microenvironment shapes macrophage differentiation in each tissue. We hypothesized that in the peritoneum, local factors in addition to retinoic acid can support GATA6-driven differentiation and function of peritoneal large cavity macrophages (LCMs). We found that soluble proteins produced by mesothelial cells lining the peritoneal cavity maintained GATA6 expression in cultured LCMs. Analysis of global gene expression of isolated mesothelial cells highlighted mesothelin (Msln) and its binding partner mucin 16 (Muc16) as candidate secreted ligands that potentially regulate GATA6 expression in peritoneal LCMs. Mice deficient for either of these molecules showed diminished GATA6 expression in peritoneal and pleural LCMs that was most prominent in aged mice. The more robust phenotype in older mice suggested that monocyte-derived macrophages were the target of Msln and Muc16. Cell transfer and bone marrow chimera experiments supported this hypothesis. We found that lethally irradiated Msln-/- and Muc16-/- mice reconstituted with wild-type bone marrow had lower levels of GATA6 expression in peritoneal and pleural LCMs. Similarly, during the resolution of zymosan-induced inflammation, repopulated peritoneal LCMs lacking expression of Msln or Muc16 expressed diminished GATA6. These data support a role for mesothelial cell-produced Msln and Muc16 in local macrophage differentiation within large cavity spaces such as the peritoneum. In this study, we have developed a new platform of polyoxometalate as a biocompatible and electrosensitive polymeric biosensor for the accurate detection of doxorubicin. For this purpose, we used a green synthesis approach using tartaric acid, glutamic acid, and kombucha solvent. Thanks to its bioinorganic components, the biogenic approach can chemically modify and improve the performance of the biosensor, which was experimentally confirmed. Our results showed excellent sensitivity (175.72  μ A· μ M -1 ·cm -2 ), low detection limit (DL, 8.12 nM), and low quantification limit (QL, 0.056  μ M) when the newly developed biosensor was used. The results also show that the biosynthesized biosensor has improved performance in detecting DOX in the biological fluid with an accuracy of more than 99% depending on the components used, which underlines the high efficiency of the biosensor produced. Considering the body's physiological condition, the biosensor fabricated as a biocompatible component can show high efficiency. The spread of viral diseases has caused global concern in recent years. Detecting viral infections has become challenging in medical research due to their high infectivity and mutation. A rapid and accurate detection method in biomedical and healthcare segments is essential for the effective treatment of pathogenic viruses and early detection of these viruses. Biosensors are used worldwide to detect viral infections associated with the molecular detection of biomarkers. Thus, detecting viruses based on quantum dots biomarkers is inexpensive and has great potential. To detect the ultrasensitive biomarkers of viral infections, QDs appear to be a promising option as biological probes, while physiological components have been used directly to detect multiple biomarkers simultaneously. The simultaneous measurement of numerous clinical parameters of the same sample volume is possible through multiplex detection of human viral infections, which reduces the time and cost required to record any data point. The purpose of this paper is to review recent studies on the effectiveness of the quantum dot as a detection tool for human pandemic viruses. In this review study, different types of quantum dots and their valuable properties in the structure of biomarkers were investigated. Finally, a vision for recent advances in quantum dot-based biomarkers was presented, whereby they can be integrated into super-sensitive probes for the multiplex detection of human viral infections.
