2D materials, specifically MoS2 semiconductors, have received tremendous attention for photo‐sensing applications due to their tunable bandgap and low noise levels. A unique photodetector using multilayer MoS2 as the semiconductor channel, in which the gate electrode of the device is permanently connected to the grounded source electrode to introduce rectification, is reported. The proposed grounded‐gate photodiode exhibits high photoresponsivity of 1.031 A W−1, excellent photodetectivity (>6 × 1010 jones), and highly stable rise/fall time response (100–200 ms) under illumination of visible light (at the wavelengths of 405, 532, and 638 nm). Numerical device simulations using quantum transport methods and photoconductive effects are used to explain the device operation. It is also suggested that the gate metal work function can be carefully chosen to increase the sensitivity of the grounded‐gate photodetector by suppressing the dark current. The grounded‐gate device proposed, owing to the properties of rectifying behavior, low contact resistance, consistent photoresponsivity, and linear sensitivity, provides a new platform for next‐generation applications in the field of electronics and optoelectronics. Apple skin color is essential for market value. Therefore, this study evaluated the efficiency of pneumatic defoliation (PD) on the enhancement of red skin color and anthocyanin pigments in 'Picnic' apples. Three weeks before harvesting, apple trees were treated with PD with low- (0.7 bar) and high- (0.9 bar) air pressure at a tractor driving speed of 2 km/h. Undefoliated trees served as controls. Higher leaf defoliation and leaf damage rates were observed in the high-PD treatment than those in the low-PD treatment. Photosynthetically active radiation inside the canopies was the highest in trees subjected to high-pressure PD than in those that underwent low-pressure PD and the controls. At harvest, the fruit color (a*) value, red-colored area, and anthocyanin content in the fruit skin were the highest in the high-PD treatment, intermediate in the low-PD treatment, and the lowest in the control treatments. Additionally, a higher expression of anthocyanin biosynthetic genes was observed in both defoliation treatments, especially under high PD. However, except for higher flesh firmness under low PD, the L* and b* values and fruit quality indices (fruit weight, starch pattern index, titratable acidity, soluble solids content, and sunburn occurrence) were not significantly affected by either PD treatment. In conclusion, PD can be used to enhance skin coloration and anthocyanin pigments in apples; further PD with high air pressure achieved optimum red skin coloration in 'Picnic' apples. We developed a real-time method to detect the dynamic eccentricity of a rotor in a permanent-magnet (PM) motor by monitoring a fault detection signal induced in an additional winding, without performing any further postprocessing, even under a nonstationary rotational speed. After deriving a mathematical equation of the back electromotive force (EMF) induced in a tooth-coil winding, we proposed a fault detection signal, which is the back EMF in an additional winding divided by the rotational speed, when the additional winding is wound around the teeth corresponding to an even number of pole pitches. We used the 2-D finite-element model of a three-phase PM motor with eight poles and 12 slots to verify the proposed method. We also developed an experimental setup which can change the dynamic eccentricity of a PM motor and we performed the experiment for PM motors with dynamic eccentricities of 0%, 25%, and 50% to verify the proposed method. Through the mathematical equation, numerical simulation, and experiment, we confirmed that the fault detection signal proposed in this paper can successfully detect the dynamic eccentricity in a PM motor in real time. In this paper, we present a novel image enhancement approach using a color shift model-based multiple color-filter aperture (MCA) camera for digital multifocusing. The proposed image enhancement algorithm consists of three steps; (i) cluster-based region-of-interest (ROI) estimation, (ii) image registration using phase correlation matching (PCM) and fusion, and (iii) image enhancement using spatially adaptive noise smoothing based on the alpha map. The image acquired by the MCA configuration contains color misalignment, which provides additional depth information of objects at different distances. This color misalignment can also provide additional information for blur estimation. The proposed cluster-based image segmentation method can effectively classify ROIs according to the distance from the camera. The segmented regions are aligned by using PCM, and they are fused to generate an in-focused image. For further enhancement of the color-registered image, we use spatially adaptive noise smoothing based on the alpha map. Experimental results show the proposed image enhancement method can significantly enhance the visual quality of the MCA output image, and can be fully or partially incorporated into multifocusing or extended depth of field (EDoF) systems in the form of the finite impulse response (FIR) filter structure.
