In the quasielastic region, we investigate the effect of neutrino electromagnetic properties constrained from the recent experiments on the electroweak neutral current reaction process of the neutrino-$^{12}$C scattering. For a relativistic description of the nuclear dynamics, we employ the relativistic mean-field model, which has been proven to describe the data nicely in the quasielastic region. In the present work, we analyze the influence beyond the Standard Model by considering the neutrino magnetic and electric dipole form factors and charge radius on the neutrino electroweak interactions within $^{12}$C. To this end, we use the values of the neutrino charge radius and the magnetic moment at the squared four momentum transfer $Q^2=0$ obtained from the recent experiments and calculate the neutrino differential cross section of the neutrino-$^{12}$C scattering. We find that the effect of the charge radius and the electric dipole form factor is very small, but the role of the magnetic dipole form factor is sensitive to $Q^2$ and becomes sizable at small momentum transfer., Comment: 15 pages, 4 figures

Multiquarks can have two-hadron components and hidden-color components in their wave functions. The presence of two-hadron components in multiquarks introduces a potential source of confusion, particularly with respect to their resemblance to hadronic molecules. On the other hand, hidden-color components are essential for distinguishing between multiquarks and hadronic molecules. In this work, we study the hidden-color components in the wave functions of the tetraquark mixing model, a model that has been proposed as a suitable framework for describing the properties of two nonets in the $J^P=0^+$ channel: the light nonet [$a_0 (980)$, $K_0^* (700)$, $f_0 (500)$, $f_0 (980)$] and the heavy nonet [$a_0 (1450)$, $K_0^* (1430)$, $f_0 (1370)$, $f_0 (1500)$]. Our analysis reveals a substantial presence of hidden-color components within the tetraquark wave functions. To elucidate the impact of hidden-color components on physical quantities, we conduct computations of the hyperfine masses, $\langle V_{CS}\rangle$, for the two nonets, considering scenarios involving only the two-meson components and those incorporating the hidden-color components. We demonstrate that the hidden-color components constitute an important part of the hyperfine masses, such that the mass difference formula, $\Delta M\approx \Delta \langle V_{CS}\rangle$, which has been successful for the two nonets, cannot be achieved without the hidden-color contributions. In this work, we compare the tetraquark mixing model and meson molecules in describing the two physical nonets in the $J^P=0^+$ channel, the light nonet [$a_0 (980)$, $K_0^* (700)$, $f_0 (500)$, $f_0 (980)$] and the heavy nonet [$a_0 (1450)$, $K_0^* (1430)$, $f_0 (1370)$, $f_0 (1500)$]. In particular, we focus on whether successful aspects of the tetraquark mixing model that apply to all members of each nonet can be reproduced from a model of meson molecules. By combining two mesons in the lowest-lying pseudoscalar nonet, we construct SU$_f$(3) molecular nonets that can be tested for the two physical nonets. This molecular approach can make two flavor nonets just as the tetraquark mixing model but this model has some difficulties in describing the universal features of the two nonets %Because of this, this molecular model cannot reproduce successful aspects of the tetraquark mixing model, such as mass splitting between the two nonets, and enhancement or suppression of the coupling strengths of the two nonets into two pseudoscalar mesons. We also compare the fall-apart modes of the tetraquark mixing model and the two-meson modes from the molecular model. A clear distinction can be seen by the two-pion modes in the isovector resonances. The two-pion modes appear in the molecular model, but not in the tetraquark mixing model. We investigated the elastic scattering, inelastic scattering, breakup reaction, and total fusion reactions of 17Ne + 208Pb system using the optical model (OM) and a coupled channel (CC) approaches. The aim of this study is to elucidate the suppress of the elastic cross-section that is invisible in proton-rich nuclei such as 8B and 17F projectiles but appears in neutron-rich nuclei such as 11Li and 11Be projectiles. The results revealed that this suppression was caused mainly by the nuclear interaction between the projectile and target nucleus rather than the strong Coulomb interaction observed in neutron-rich nuclei and the contributions of Coulomb excitation interaction due to two low-lying E2 resonance states are relatively small. From the simultaneous chi-square analysis of the 17Ne + 208Pb system, we can infer a strong suppression effect in the elastic scattering cross-section due to the nuclear interaction between the projectile and target nucleus, rather than the Coulomb interaction as observed in neutron-rich nuclei. Also, the contribution of the direct reaction, comprising the inelastic scattering and breakup reaction cross-sections, accounted for almost half of the total reaction. Finally, we perform the CC calculation using the parameters obtained from our OM calculation but our CC calculations could not explain the 15O production cross section., Comment: 20 pages, 7 figures

In this talk, we present successful aspects of the tetraquark mixing model for the two light-meson nonets in the $J^{PC} = 0^{++}$ channel, the light nonet [$a_0(980)$, $K_0^*(700)$, $f_0(500)$, $f_0(980)$] and the heavy nonet [$a_0(1450)$, $K_0^*(1430)$, $f_0(1370)$, $f_0(1500)$]. In particular, we focus on how their experimental partial decay widths extracted from Particle Data Group (PDG) can support this mixing model. Currently, the experimental data exhibit an unnatural tendency that partial widths of the light nonet are consistently larger than those of the heavy nonet. This unnatural tendency can be explained if the coupling into two pseudoscalar mesons is enhanced in the light nonet and suppressed in the heavy nonet as predicted by the tetraquark mixing model. Recent measurement of the parity-violating (PV) asymmetry in the elastic electron scattering on $^{27}$Al target evokes the interest in the distribution of the neutron in the nucleus. In this work, we calculate the neutron skin thickness ($R_{np}$) of $^{27}$Al with nonrelativistic nuclear structure models. We focus on the role of the effective mass, symmetry energy and pairing force. Models are selected to have effective masses in the range $(0.58-1.05)M$ where $M$ is the nucleon mass in free space, and stiffness of the symmetry energy is varied by choosing the slope of the symmetry energy in the range 9.4 -- 100.5 MeV. Effect of pairing force is investigated by calculating $R_{np}$ with and without pairing, and using two different forms of the pairing force. With nine models, we obtain $R_{np} = 0.001 - 0.014$ fm. The result is independent of the effective mass, symmetry energy, and the form of pairing force. However, $R_{np}$ is negative when the pairing force is switched off, so the pairing force plays an essential role to make $R_{np}$ positive and constrained in a narrow range. We also calculate the PV asymmetry ($A_{\rm pv}$) in the elastic electron-$^{27}$Al scattering in the Born approximation at the kinematics of the Qweak experiment. We obtain a very narrow-ranged result $A_{\rm pv} = $ (2.07 -- 2.09) $\times 10^{-6}$. The result is consistent with the experiment and insensitive to the effective mass, symmetry energy and pairing force., Comment: 5 pages, 2 figures

Recently, the tetraquark mixing framework has been proposed as a possible structure for the two light-meson nonets in the $J^P=0^+$ channel, the light nonet composed of $a_0(980)$, $K_0^*(700)$, $f_0(500)$, $f_0(980)$, and the heavy nonet of $a_0(1450)$, $K_0^*(1430)$, $f_0(1370)$, $f_0(1500)$. Among various signatures, we report in this work that their partial decay widths collected from various experimental data in Particle Data Group (PDG) can support this mixing scheme also. In particular, we demonstrate that the couplings of the light nonet to two pseudoscalar mesons estimated from the partial widths are consistently stronger than those of the heavy nonet. We discuss the role of deformation of the target nucleus in the fusion reaction of the $^{15}$C + $^{232}$Th system at energies around the Coulomb barrier, for which $^{15}$C is a well-known one-neutron halo nucleus. To this end, we construct the potential between $^{15}$C and $^{232}$Th with the double folding procedure, assuming that the projectile nucleus is composed of the core nucleus, $^{14}$C, and a valance neutron. By taking into account the halo nature of the projectile nucleus as well as the deformation of the target nucleus, we simultaneously reproduce the fusion cross sections for the $^{14}$C + $^{232}$Th and the $^{15}$C + $^{232}$Th systems. Our calculation indicates that the net effect of the breakup and the transfer channels is small for this system., Comment: 7 pages, 5 figures

Hexaquark wave function with the quantum numbers $I(J^P)=0(3^+)$, which might be relevant for $d^*(2380)$, is constructed under an assumption that this is composed only of $u,d$ quarks in an $S$-wave. By combining three diquarks of either type, ($\bm{\bar{3}}_c, I=1$) or ($\bm{6}_c, I=0$), we demonstrate that there are five possible configurations for the six-quark state. The fully antisymmetric wave function is constructed by linearly combining the five configurations on an equal footing. We then take this wave function as well as the five configurations to calculate the hexaquark mass using the contact type effective potential consisting of the color-spin, color electric and constant shift. The mass is found to be the same regardless of the configurations being used including the fully antisymmetric one. This result can be traced to the fact that the hexaquark system has a freedom in choosing three diquarks in the construction of its wave function. The calculated hexaquark mass using the empirical parameters independently fixed from the baryon spectroscopy is found to be around $2342$ MeV, which is indeed very close to the experimental mass of $d^*(2380)$. Therefore, the hexaquark picture is promising for $d^*(2380)$ as far as the mass is concerned., Comment: 10 pages, version accepted for publication in PRD

The neutrino process ($\nu$-process) for the production of 7Li and 11B in core-collapse supernovae (SNe) is extensively investigated. Initial abundances of s-nuclei and other physical conditions are derived from an updated calculation of the SN 1987A progenitor. The nuclear reaction network including neutrino reactions is constructed with the variable order Bader-Deuflhard integration method. We find that yields of 7Li and 11B significantly depend on the stellar metallicity while they are independent of the weak s-process during the stellar evolution. When the metallicity is high, there are more neutron absorbers, i.e., 56Fe, 14N (from initial CNO nuclei), and 54Fe, and the neutron abundance is small during the $\nu$-process. Since 7Be is predominantly destroyed via 7Be(n,p)7Li, a change in the neutron abundance results in different 7Be yields. Then, the calculated yield ratio 7Li/11B=0.93 for the solar metallicity is larger than that for the SN 1987A 7Li/11B=0.80 by 16 % in the inverted mass hierarchy case. How friction affects adhesion is addressed. The problem is considered in the context of a very stiff sphere adhering to a compliant, isotropic, linear elastic substrate, and experiencing adhesion and frictional slip relative to each other. The adhesion is considered to be driven by very large attractive tractions between the sphere and the substrate that can act only at very small distances between them. As a consequence, the adhesion behavior can be represented by the Johnson-Kendall-Roberts model, and this is assumed to prevail also when frictional slip is occurring. Frictional slip is considered to be resisted by a uniform, constant shear traction at the slipping interface, a model that is considered to be valid for small asperities and for compliant elastomers in contact with stiff material. A model for the interaction of friction and adhesion, known to agree with some experimental data, is utilized. This model is due to Johnson, and its adhesion-friction interaction is assumed to stem, upon shrinkage of the contact area, from a postulated reversible energy release associated with frictional slip. This behavior is considered to arise from surface microstructures generated or eliminated by frictional slip, where these microstructures store some elastic strain energy in a reversible manner. The associated reversible energy release rate is derived from the energy exchanges that occur in the system. The Johnson model, and an asymptotic analysis of it for small amounts of frictional slip, is shown to be consistent with the reversible energy release rate that we identify., Comment: 11 pages

According to a recent proposal of the tetraquark mixing framework, the two light-meson nonets in the $J^{P}=0^{+}$ channel, namely the light nonet composed of $a_0 (980)$, $K_0^* (800)$, $f_0 (500)$, $f_0(980)$, and the heavy nonet of $a_0 (1450)$, $K_0^* (1430)$, $f_0 (1370)$, $f_0 (1500)$, can be expressed by linear combinations of the two tetraquark types, one type containing the spin-0 diquark and the other with the spin-1 diquark. Among various consequences of this mixing model, one surprising result is that the second tetraquark with the spin-1 diquark configuration is more important for the light nonet. In this work, we report that this result can be supported by the QCD sum rule calculation. In particular, we construct a QCD sum rule for the isovector resonance $a_0(980)$ using an interpolating field composed of both tetraquark types and then perform the operator product expansion up to dimension 10 operators. Our sum rule analysis shows that the spin-1 diquark configuration is crucial in generating the $a_0(980)$ mass. Also, the mixed correlation function constructed from the two tetraquark types is found to have large strength which seems consistent with what the tetraquark mixing framework is advocating. On the other hand, the correlation function from the interpolating field with the spin-0 diquark configuration alone fails to predict the $a_0(980)$ mass mostly by the huge negative contribution from dimension 8 operators., Comment: 12 pages, 9 figures, One error in the code has been corrected. Using relativistic Hartree-Fock (RHF) approximation, we study the effect of Fock terms on the nuclear properties not only around the saturation density, $\rho_{0}$, but also at higher densities. In particular, we investigate how the momentum dependence due to the exchange contribution affects the nuclear symmetry energy and its slope parameter, using the Lorentz-covariant decomposition of nucleon self-energies in an extended version of the RHF model, in which the exchange terms are adjusted so as to reproduce the single-nucleon potential at $\rho_{0}$. We find that the Fock contribution suppresses the kinetic term of nuclear symmetry energy at the densities around and beyond $\rho_{0}$. It is noticeable that not only the isovector-vector ($\rho$) meson but also the isoscalar mesons ($\sigma, \omega$) and pion make significant influence on the potential term of nuclear symmetry energy through the exchange diagrams. Furthermore, the exchange contribution prevents the slope parameter from increasing monotonically at high densities., Comment: 35 pages, 13 figures, 5 tables

We reinvestigate effects of neutrino oscillations on the production of 7Li and 11B in core-collapse supernovae (SNe). During the propagation of neutrinos from the proto-neutron star, their flavors change and the neutrino reaction rates for spallation of 12C and 4He are affected. In this work corrected neutrino spallation cross sections for 4He and 12C are adopted. Initial abundances involving heavy s-nuclei and other physical conditions are derived in a new calculation of the SN 1987A progenitor in which effects of the progenitor metallicity are included. A dependence of the SN nucleosynthesis and final yields of 7Li and 11B on the neutrino mass hierarchy are shown in several stellar locations. In the normal hierarchy case, the charged current reaction rates of electron neutrinos are enhanced, and yields of proton-rich nuclei, along with 7Be and 11C, are increased. In the inverted hierarchy case, the charged current reaction rates of electron antineutrinos are enhanced, and yields of neutron-rich nuclei, along with 7Li and 11B, are increased. We find that variation of the metallicity modifies the yields of 7Li, 7Be, 11B, and 11C. This effect is caused by changes in the neutron abundance during SN nucleosynthesis. We discuss angular distributions of elastic, inelastic, and breakup cross sections for $^{11}$Be + $^{197}$Au system, which were measured at energies below and around Coulomb barrier. To this end, we employ Coulomb dipole excitation (CDE) and long-range nuclear (LRN) potential to take into account long range effects by halo nuclear system and break up effects by weakly-bound structure. We then analyze recent experimental data including 3-channes i.e. elastic, inelastic, and breakup cross sections, at $E_{\textrm{c.m.}}$=29.6 MeV and $E_{\text{c.m.}}$=37.1 MeV. From the extracted parameter sets using $\chi^{2}$ analysis, we successfully reproduce the experimental angular distributions of the elastic, inelastic, and breakup cross sections for $^{11}$Be+$^{197}$Au system simultaneously. Also we discuss the necessity of LRN potential around Coulomb barrier from analyzed experimental data.

In this work, we investigate additional signatures to support the tetraquark mixing framework that has been recently proposed as a possible structure for the two nonets, namely $a_0 (980)$, $K_0^* (800)$, $f_0 (500)$, $f_0 (980)$ in the light nonet, $a_0 (1450)$, $K_0^* (1430)$, $f_0 (1370)$, $f_0 (1500)$ in the heavy nonet. First, we advocate that the two nonets form the flavor nonet approximately satisfying the Gell-Mann--Okubo mass relation. Then we reexamine the mass ordering generated from the tetraquark nonets and show that this mass ordering is satisfied by the two nonets although the ordering in the heavy nonet is marginal. The marginal mass ordering however can be regarded as another signature for tetraquarks because it can be explained partially by the hyperfine masses calculated from the tetraquark mixing framework. The tetraquark mixing parameters are found to be independent of isospins giving additional support for the formation of the flavor nonets. In addition, we discuss the other approaches like two-quark pictures or meson-meson bound states, and their possible limitations in explaining the two nonets. As a peculiar signature distinguished from other approaches, we investigate the fall-apart coupling strengths into two vector mesons from our tetraquarks. Coupling strengths into the two-vector modes are found to enhance strongly in the heavy nonet while they are suppressed in the light nonet. The coupling ratios, which depend on the isospin channel, are found to be huge around $\sim 15$. This trend in the two-vector modes, which is opposite to that in the two-pseudoscalar fall-apart modes, can provide another testing ground for the tetraquark mixing framework. After the classification of topological states of matter has been clarified for non-interacting electron systems, the theoretical connection between gapless boundary modes and nontrivial bulk topological structures, and their evolutions as a function of dimensions are now well understood. However, such dimensional hierarchy has not been well established experimentally although some indirect evidences were reported, for example, such as the half-quantized Hall conductance via quantum Hall effect and extrapolation in the quantum-oscillation measurement. In this paper, we report the appearance of the possible chiral edge mode from the surface state of topological insulators under magnetic fields, confirming the dimensional hierarchy in three dimensional topological insulators. Applying laser pulses to the surface state of Bi1-xSbx, we find that the sign of voltage relaxation in one edge becomes opposite to that in the other edge only when magnetic fields are applied to the topological insulating phase. We show that this sign difference originates from the chirality of edge states, based on coupled time-dependent Poisson and Boltzmann equations., Comment: 17 pages, 6 figures

We discuss the role of two-neutron transfer processes in the fusion reaction of the $^{9,11}$Li + $^{208}$Pb systems. We first analyze the $^{9}$Li + $^{208}$Pb reaction by taking into account the coupling to the $^{7}$Li + $^{210}$Pb channel. To this end, we assume that two neutrons are directly transferred to a single effective channel in $^{210}$Pb and solve the coupled-channels equations with the two channels. By adjusting the coupling strength and the effective $Q$-value, we successfully reproduce the experimental fusion cross sections for this system. We then analyze the $^{11}$Li + $^{208}$Pb reaction in a similar manner, that is, by taking into account three effective channels with $^{11}$Li + $^{208}$Pb, $^{9}$Li + $^{210}$Pb, and $^{7}$Li + $^{212}$Pb partitions. In order to take into account the halo structure of the $^{11}$Li nucleus, we construct the potential between $^{11}$Li and $^{208}$Pb with a double folding procedure, while we employ a Wood-Saxon type potential with the global Aky\"uz-Winther parameters for the other channels. Our calculation indicates that the multiple two-neutron transfer process plays a crucial role in the $^{11}$Li + $^{208}$Pb fusion reaction at energies around the Coulomb barrier.

Recently, a tetraquark mixing framework has been proposed for light mesons and applied more or less successfully to the isovector resonances, $a_0(980), a_0(1450)$, as well as to the isodoublet resonances, $K^*_0(800), K^*_0(1430)$. In this work, we present a more extensive view on the mixing framework and extend this to the isoscalar resonances, $f_0 (500)$, $f_0(980)$, $f_0 (1370)$, $f_0(1500)$. Tetraquarks in this framework can have two spin configurations containing either spin-0 diquark or spin-1 diquark and each configuration forms a nonet in flavor space. The two spin configurations are found to mix strongly through the color-spin interactions. Their mixtures, which diagonalize the hyperfine masses, can generate the physical resonances constituting the two nonets, which, in fact, coincide roughly with the experimental observation. We identify that $f_0 (500)$, $f_0(980)$ are the isoscalar members in the light nonet, and $f_0 (1370)$, $f_0(1500)$ are the similar members in the heavy nonet. This means that the spin configuration mixing, as it relates the corresponding members in the two nonets, can generate $f_0 (500), f_0 (1370)$ among the members in light mass, and $f_0(980), f_0(1500)$ in heavy mass. The complication arises because the isoscalar members of each nonet are subject to an additional flavor mixing known as OZI rule so that $f_0 (500), f_0 (980)$, and similarly $f_0 (1370), f_0 (1500)$, are the mixture of two isoscalar members belonging to an octet and a singlet in SU$_f$(3). The tetraquark mixing framework including the flavor mixing is tested for the isoscalar resonances in terms of the mass splitting and the fall-apart decay modes., Comment: 16 pages, 2 figures, slightly modified, 2 references added

Direct experimental investigations of the low-energy electronic structure of the Na$_2$IrO$_3$ iridate insulator are sparse and draw two conflicting pictures. One relies on flat bands and a clear gap, the other involves dispersive states approaching the Fermi level, pointing to surface metallicity. Here, by a combination of angle-resolved photoemission, photoemission electron microscopy, and x-ray absorption, we show that the correct picture is more complex and involves an anomalous band, arising from charge transfer from Na atoms to Ir-derived states. Bulk quasiparticles do exist, but in one of the two possible surface terminations the charge transfer is smaller and they remain elusive.

Based on the recent proposal for the tetraquarks with the mixing scheme, we investigate fall-apart decays of $a_0(980), a_0(1450)$ into two lowest-lying mesons. This mixing scheme suggests that $a_0(980)$ and $a_0(1450)$ are the tetraquarks with the mixtures of two spin configurations of diquark and antidiquark. Due to the relative sign differences in the mixtures, the couplings of fall-apart decays into two mesons are strongly enhanced for $a_0(980)$ but suppressed for $a_0(1450)$. We report that this expectation is supported by their experimental decays. In particular, the ratios of the associated partial decay widths, which depend on some kinematical factors and the couplings, are found to be around $\Gamma [a_0(980)\rightarrow \pi \eta]/\Gamma [a_0(1450)\rightarrow \pi \eta] = 2.51-2.54$, $\Gamma [a_0(980)\rightarrow K\bar{K}]/\Gamma [a_0(1450)\rightarrow K\bar{K}] = 0.52-0.89$, which seems to agree with the experimental ratios reasonably well. This agreement can be interpreted as the tetraquark signatures for $a_0(980), a_0(1450)$., Comment: 6 pages, no figures, more references are added, the version to be published in EPJC

We apply a mixing framework to the light meson systems and examine tetraquark possibility in the scalar channel. In the diquark-antidiquark model, a scalar diquark is a compact object when its color and flavor structures are in ($\bar{\bm{3}}_c$, $\bar{\bm{3}}_f$). Assuming that all the quarks are in an $S$-wave, the spin-0 tetraquark formed out of this scalar diquark has only one spin configuration, $|J,J_{12},J_{34}\rangle=|000\rangle$, where $J$ is the spin of the tetraquark, $J_{12}$ the diquark spin, $J_{34}$ the antidiquark spin. In this construction of the scalar tetraquark, we notice that another compact diquark with spin-1 in ($\bm{6}_c$, $\bar{\bm{3}}_f$) can be used although it is less compact than the scalar diquark. The spin-0 tetraquark constructed from this vector diquark leads to the spin configuration $|J,J_{12},J_{34}\rangle=|011\rangle$. The two configurations, $|000\rangle$ and $|011\rangle$, are found to mix strongly through the color-spin interaction. The physical states can be identified with certain mixtures of the two configurations which diagonalize the hyperfine masses of the color-spin interaction. Matching these states to two scalar resonances $a_0(980), a_0(1450)$ or to $K^*_0(800), K^*_0(1430)$ depending on the isospin channel, we find that their mass splittings are qualitatively consistent with the hyperfine mass splittings which can support their tetraquark structure. To test our mixing scheme further, we also construct the tetraquarks for $J=1,J=2$ with the spin configurations, $|111\rangle$ and $|211\rangle$, and discuss possible candidates in the physical spectrum., Comment: 9 pages, no figures, revised slightly

Assuming four-quark structure for the $X$ resonances in low-lying region, we calculate their masses using the color-spin interaction. In specific, the hyperfine masses of the color-spin interaction are calculated for the possible states in spin-0, spin-1, spin-2 channels. The two states in spin-0 channel as well as the two states in spin-1 channel are diagonalized in order to generate the physical hyperfine masses. By matching the difference in hyperfine masses with the splitting in corresponding hadron masses and using the $X(3872)$ mass as an input, we estimate the masses corresponding to the states $J^{PC}=0^{++}, 1^{+-},2^{++}$. We find the masses of two states in $1^{+-}$ are close to those of $X(3823)$, $X(3900)$, and the mass of the $2^{++}$ state is close to that of $X(3940)$. For them, the discrepancies are about $\sim 10$ MeV. This may suggest that the quantum numbers of the controversial states are $X(3823)=1^{+-}, X(3900)=1^{+-}, X(3940)=2^{++}$. In this work, we use the same inputs parameters, the constituent quark masses and the strength of the color-spin interaction, that have been adopted in the previous work on the $D$ or $B$-meson excited states. There, it was shown that the four-quark structure can be manifested in their excited states. The modified gravity is considered to be one of possible explanations of the accelerated expansions of the present and the early universe. We study effects of the modified gravity on big bang nucleosynthesis (BBN). If effects of the modified gravity are significant during the BBN epoch, they should be observed as changes of primordial light element abundances. We assume a $f(G)$ term with the Gauss-Bonnet term $G$, during the BBN epoch. A power-law relation of $df/dG \propto t^p$ where $t$ is the cosmic time was assumed for the function $f(G)$ as an example case. We solve time evolutions of physical variables during BBN in the $f(G)$ gravity model numerically, and analyzed calculated results. It is found that a proper solution for the cosmic expansion rate can be lost in some parameter region. In addition, we show that calculated results of primordial light element abundances can be significantly different from observational data. Especially, observational limits on primordial D abundance leads to the strongest constraint on the $f(G)$ gravity. We then derive constraints on parameters of the $f(G)$ gravity taking into account the existence of the solution of expansion rate and final light element abundances., Comment: 29 pages, 24 figures

Big bang nucleosynthesis in a modified gravity model of $f(R)\propto R^n$ is investigated. The only free parameter of the model is a power-law index $n$. We find cosmological solutions in a parameter region of $1< n \leq (4+\sqrt{6})/5$. We calculate abundances of $^4$He, D, $^3$He, $^7$Li, and $^6$Li during big bang nucleosynthesis. We compare the results with the latest observational data. The injections of energetic hadrons could have occurred in the early universe by decays of hypothetical long-lived exotic particles. The injections induce the showers of nonthermal hadrons via nuclear scattering. Neutrons generated at these events can react with $^7$Be nuclei and reduce $^7$Be abundance solving a problem of the primordial $^7$Li abundance. We suggest that thermal neutron injection is a way to derive a model independent conservative limit on the relation between abundances of D and $^7$Li in a hadronic energy injection model. We emphasize that an uncertainty in cross sections of inelastic $n+p$ scattering affects the total number of induced neutrons, which determines final abundances of D and $^7$Li. In addition, the annihilations of antinucleons with $^4$He result in higher D abundance and trigger nonthermal $^6$Li production. It is concluded that a reduction of $^7$Li abundance from a value in the standard big bang nucleosynthesis (BBN) model down to an observational two $\sigma$ upper limit is necessarily accompanied by an undesirable increase of D abundance up to at least an observational 12 $\sigma$ upper limit from observations of quasi-stellar object absorption line systems. The effects of antinucleons and secondary particles produced in the hadronic showers always lead to a severer constraint. The BBN models involving any injections of extra neutrons are thus unlikely to reproduce a small $^7$Li abundance consistent with observations., Comment: 14 pages, 6 figures

We extensively reanalyze effects of a long-lived negatively charged massive particle, X-, on big bang nucleosynthesis (BBN). The BBN model with an X- particle was originally motivated by the discrepancy between 6,7Li abundances predicted in standard BBN model and those inferred from observations of metal-poor stars. In this model 7Be is destroyed via the recombination with an X- particle followed by radiative proton capture. We calculate precise rates for the radiative recombinations of 7Be, 7Li, 9Be, and 4He with X-. In nonresonant rates we take into account respective partial waves of scattering states and respective bound states. The finite sizes of nuclear charge distributions cause deviations in wave functions from those of point-charge nuclei. For a heavy X- mass, m_X \gtrsim 100 GeV, the d-wave --> 2P transition is most important for 7Li and 7,9Be, unlike recombination with electrons. Our new nonresonant rate of the 7Be recombination for m_X=1000 GeV is more than 6 times larger than the existing rate. Moreover, we suggest a new important reaction for 9Be production: the recombination of 7Li and X- followed by deuteron capture. We derive binding energies of X-nuclei along with reaction rates and Q-values. We then calculate BBN and find that the amount of 7Be destruction depends significantly on the charge distribution of 7Be. Finally, updated constraints on the initial abundance and the lifetime of the X- are derived in the context of revised upper limits to the primordial 6Li abundance. Since two years, the FACT telescope is operating on the Canary Island of La Palma. Apart from its purpose to serve as a monitoring facility for the brightest TeV blazars, it was built as a major step to establish solid state photon counters as detectors in Cherenkov astronomy. The camera of the First G-APD Cherenkov Telesope comprises 1440 Geiger-mode avalanche photo diodes (G-APD), equipped with solid light guides to increase the effective light collection area of each sensor. Since no sense-line is available, a special challenge is to keep the applied voltage stable although the current drawn by the G-APD depends on the flux of night-sky background photons significantly varying with ambient light conditions. Methods have been developed to keep the temperature and voltage dependent response of the G-APDs stable during operation. As a cross-check, dark count spectra with high statistics have been taken under different environmental conditions. We demonstrate that the molecular Berry phase and the corresponding non-analyticity in the electronic Born-Oppenheimer wavefunction is, in general, not a true topological feature of the exact solution of the full electron-nuclear Schr\"odinger equation. For a numerically exactly solvable model we show that a non-analyticity, and the associated geometric phase, only appear in the limit of infinite nuclear mass, while a perfectly smooth behavior is found for any finite nuclear mass.

Epigenetic histone modifications play an important role in the maintenance of different cell phenotypes. The exact molecular mechanism for inheritance of the modification patterns over cell generations remains elusive. We construct a Potts-type model based on experimentally observed nearest-neighbor enzyme lateral interactions and nucleosome covalent modification state biased enzyme recruitment. The model can lead to effective nonlocal interactions among nucleosomes suggested in previous theoretical studies, and epigenetic memory is robustly inheritable against stochastic cellular processes., Comment: Published in PRL

We develop a nonlinear force-free field (NLFFF) extrapolation code based on the magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) relaxation method. We extend the classical MHD relaxation method in two important ways. First, we introduce an algorithm initially proposed by cite{2002JCoPh.175..645D} to effectively clean the numerical errors associated with $nabla cdot vec{B}$. Second, the multi-grid type method is implemented in our NLFFF to perform direct analysis of the high-resolution magnetogram data. As a result of these two implementations, we successfully extrapolated the high resolution force-free field introduced by cite{1990ApJ...352..343L} with better accuracy in a drastically shorter time. We also applied our extrapolation method to the MHD solution obtained from the flux-emergence simulation by cite{2012ApJ...748...53M}. We found that NLFFF extrapolation may be less effective for reproducing areas higher than a half-domain, where some magnetic loops are found in a state of continuous upward expansion. However, an inverse S shaped structure consisting of the sheared and twisted loops formed in the lower region can be captured well through our NLFFF extrapolation method. We further discuss how well these sheared and twisted fields are reconstructed by estimating the magnetic topology and twist quantitatively., Comment: 36 pages, 12 figures, accepted for publication in The Astrophysical Journal
