Abstract Regulatory T cells (Treg) are CD4+ T cells with immune-suppressive function, which is defined by Foxp3 expression. However, the molecular determinants defining the suppressive population of T cells have yet to be discovered. Here we report that the cell surface protein Lrig1 is enriched in suppressive T cells and controls their suppressive behaviors. Within CD4+ T cells, Treg cells express the highest levels of Lrig1, and the expression level is further increasing with activation. The Lrig1+ subpopulation from T helper (Th) 17 cells showed higher suppressive activity than the Lrig1- subpopulation. Lrig1-deficiency impairs the suppressive function of Treg cells, while Lrig1-deficient naïve T cells normally differentiate into other T cell subsets. Adoptive transfer of CD4+Lrig1+ T cells alleviates autoimmune symptoms in colitis and lupus nephritis mouse models. A monoclonal anti-Lrig1 antibody significantly improves the symptoms of experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis. In conclusion, Lrig1 is an important regulator of suppressive T cell function and an exploitable target for treating autoimmune conditions.

Asian eyelids are characteristically puffy, with a fold, and have bulging of the orbital fat and septum. Moreover, with the aging process, the orbital septum and skin lose elasticity and orbital fat atrophy proceeds, thus resulting in dermatochalasis and a sunken eyelid. We introduce a modified technique of infrabrow excision with septo-myocutaneous flap repositioning. An upper incision was made along the lower margin of the eyebrow and the placement of the lower incision was decided according to the amount of skin excision needed. After skin removal, the orbicularis oculi muscle (OOM) was incised 2 mm above the lower margin and dissected to expose the orbital septum. Additional dissection was performed along the preseptal plane to the supraorbital rim periosteum. Then, the lower flap (septo-myocutaneous flap) was anchored to the supraorbital rim periosteum. The overlapping OOM and subcutaneous layers were sutured separately. This technique makes it possible to correct the cause of an aging eyelid appearance. Additionally, an overlapping OOM aids in correcting sunken eyelids, and by tensioning the orbital septum, a puffy eyelid is corrected. As an advantage over the conventional infrabrow excision, our method prevents recurrence and corrects orbital septum laxity. Therefore, it can achieve more natural outcomes and lower recurrence rates.

Objectives The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of body weight status and sleep duration on the discrete-time hazard of menarche in Korean schoolgirls using multiple-point prospective panel data. Methods The study included 914 girls in the 2010 Korean Children and Youth Panel Study who were in the elementary first-grader panel from 2010 until 2016. We used a Gompertz regression model to estimate the effects of weight status based on age-specific and sex-specific body mass index (BMI) percentile and sleep duration on an early schoolchild’s conditional probability of menarche during a given time interval using general health condition and annual household income as covariates. Results Gompertz regression of time to menarche data collected from the Korean Children and Youth Panel Study 2010 suggested that being overweight or sleeping less than the recommended duration was related to an increased hazard of menarche compared to being average weight and sleeping 9 hours to 11 hours, by 1.63 times and 1.38 times, respectively, while other covariates were fixed. In contrast, being underweight was associated with a 66% lower discrete-time hazard of menarche. Conclusions Weight status based on BMI percentiles and sleep duration in the early school years affect the hazard of menarche.

Multifunctional molecules might offer better treatment of complex multifactorial neurological diseases. Monoaminergic pathways dysregulation and neuroinflammation are common convergence points in diverse neurodegenerative and neuropsychiatric disorders. Aiming to target these diseases, polypharmacological agents modulating both monoaminergic pathways and neuroinflammatory were addressed. A library of analogues of the natural product hispidol was prepared and evaluated for inhibition of monoamine oxidases (MAOs) isoforms. Several molecules emerged as selective potential MAO B inhibitors. The most promising compounds were further evaluated in vitro for their impact on microglia viability, induced production of proinflammatory mediators and MAO-B inhibition mechanism. Amongst tested compounds, 1p was a safe potent competitive reversible MAO-B inhibitor and inhibitor of microglial production of neuroinflammatory mediators; NO and PGE2. In-silico study provided insights into molecular basis of the observed selective MAO B inhibition. This study presents compound 1p as a promising lead compound for management of neurodegenerative disease.

In this study, GPS trackers were attached to black-tailed gulls (Larus crassirostris) breeding on five islands in Republic of Korea during April and May 2021, and their flight frequency, behavioral range, and flight altitude were compared during and after the breeding season. During the breeding season, the flight frequency was lowest on Dongman Island (28.7%), where mudflats were distributed nearby, and the range of activity was narrow. In contrast, it tended to be high on Gungsi Island (52%), where the breeding colony was far from land, resulting in a wider range of activity. Although the flight frequency on Dongman Island increased post-breeding season (42.7%), it decreased on other islands. The mean flight altitude during the breeding season was lowest on Dongman Island and highest on Napdaegi Island. In most breeding areas, the mean flight altitude during the post-breeding season was higher than that during the breeding season. However, the lead flight altitude was lower during the non-breeding season compared to that in the breeding season. The home range expanded after the breeding season, with no significant difference in lead time between the breeding and non-breeding seasons. Our findings reveal that black-tailed gulls exhibit varying home ranges and flight altitudes depending on season and geographical location. As generalists, gulls display flexible responses to environmental changes, indicating that flight behavior adapts to the evolving environment over time and across regions.

Aging leads to a decline in stem cell activity by reducing the repopulation rate and paracrine potential, ultimately diminishing efficacy in vivo. TNF-α can exert inflammatory and cell death actions via Erk by binding to TNFR-1, and survival and tissue repair actions via Akt by binding to TNFR-2. Aged cells are reported to have insufficient expression of TNFR-2, indicating that aged adipose-derived stem cells (ADSCs-E) lack the ability for cell survival and immune control compared to young ADSCs (ADSCs-Y). This study aims to assess the preconditioning effect of SP on the response of ADSCs-E to inflammation. ADSCs-E were treated with SP and then exposed to a high dose of TNF-α for 24 h. Consequently, ADSC-E exhibited weaker viability and lower TNFR2 levels compared to ADSC-Y. In response to TNF-α, the difference in TNFR2 expression became more pronounced in ADSC-E and ADSC-Y. Moreover, ADSC-E showed a severe deficiency in proliferation and paracrine activity. However, preconditioning with SP significantly enhanced the viability of ADSCs-E and also restored TNFR2 expression and paracrine potential, similar to ADSC-Y under inflammatory conditions. Our findings support the idea that preconditioning with SP has the potential to restore the cellular function of senescent stem cells before transplantation.

Dural arteriovenous fistula (DAVF) is a rare condition affecting approximately 1.5% of 1,000,000 individuals annually. It frequently occurs in the transsigmoid and cavernous sinuses. An isolated sigmoid sinus is extremely rare and is treated by performing transfemoral transvenous embolization along the opposite transverse sinus. A 69-year-old woman presented with asymptomatic Borden type III/Cognard type III DAVF involving an isolated sigmoid sinus. She underwent a staged operation in which a navigation system was used to expose the sigmoid sinus in the operating room before transferring the patient to the angio suite for transvenous embolization. Various modalities have been used to treat DAVF, including surgical disconnection, transarterial embolization, transvenous embolization, and stereotactic radiosurgery. However, treating DAVF cases where the affected sinus is isolated can be challenging because an easily accessible surgical route may not be available. Objectives: We aimed to compare the external herbal dispensary (EHD) evaluation criteria for pharmacopuncture and the Korea Good Manufacturing Practice (KGMP) sterile medicine standards to contribute to the establishment of quality control criteria for pharmacopuncture.Methods : : We obtained the KGMP standards from the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety and the pharmacopuncture certification criteria from the Ministry of Health and Welfare of South Korea. The EHD evaluation items were classified into three categories: facilities, quality control, and validation. The evaluation items were compared with the KGMP sterile medicine criteria to determine their conformance with each other, followed by a discussion among the committee of six experts and their consensus to suggest the items to complement the EHD evaluation criteria.Results : : Among the KGMP sterile medicine criteria, 44 were related to the management of the facilities, and 32 pharmacopuncture evaluation items corresponded to these KGMP items (66.7%). Fifty-eight KGMP criteria were related to quality management, and 42 pharmacopuncture evaluation items corresponded to these KGMP items (72.4%). Twenty-five KGMP sterile medicine criteria were related to validation, and 11 pharmacopuncture evaluation items corresponded to these KGMP items (44.0%). Sixteen items under the pharmacopuncture EHD criteria corresponded to the KGMP sterile medicine criteria based on the consent of the experts. Among these, 4 were related to facility management, 6 were related to quality control, and 6 were related to validation.Conclusion : : For the safety and quality control of pharmacopuncture, there is a need to select the criteria for the mandatory items among the proposed pharmacopuncture-EHD criteria laws and systems to ensure that the pharmacopuncture materials are produced under the pharmacopuncture-EHD in compliance with the relevant requirements. More studies are needed to secure the safety level of pharmacopuncture materials corresponding to that of conventional medicine.

Oxidative catabolism of monoamine neurotransmitters by monoamine oxidases (MAOs) produces reactive oxygen species (ROS), which contributes to neuronal cells’ death and also lowers monoamine neurotransmitter levels. In addition, acetylcholinesterase activity and neuroinflammation are involved in neurodegenerative diseases. Herein, we aim to achieve a multifunctional agent that inhibits the oxidative catabolism of monoamine neurotransmitters and, hence, the detrimental production of ROS while enhancing neurotransmitter levels. Such a multifunctional agent might also inhibit acetylcholinesterase and neuroinflammation. To meet this end goal, a series of aminoalkyl derivatives of analogs of the natural product hispidol were designed, synthesized, and evaluated against both monoamine oxidase-A (MAO-A) and monoamine oxidase-B (MAO-B). Promising MAO inhibitors were further checked for the inhibition of acetylcholinesterase and neuroinflammation. Among them, compounds 3aa and 3bc were identified as potential multifunctional molecules eliciting submicromolar selective MAO-B inhibition, low-micromolar AChE inhibition, and the inhibition of microglial PGE2 production. An evaluation of their effects on memory and cognitive impairments using a passive avoidance test confirmed the in vivo activity of compound 3bc, which showed comparable activity to donepezil. In silico molecular docking provided insights into the MAO and acetylcholinesterase inhibitory activities of compounds 3aa and 3bc. These findings suggest compound 3bc as a potential lead for the further development of agents against neurodegenerative diseases.

Abstract Although metal halide perovskites are candidate high‐performance light‐emitting diode (LED) materials, blue perovskite LEDs are problematic: mixed‐halide materials are susceptible to phase segregation and bromide‐based perovskite quantum dots (QDs) have low stability. Herein, a novel strategy for highly efficient, stable cesium lead bromide (CsPbBr3) QDs via in situ surface reconstruction of CsPbBr3–Cs4PbBr6 nanocrystals (NCs) is reported. By controlling precursor reactivity, the ratio of CsPbBr3 to Cs4PbBr6 NCs is successfully modulated. A high photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) of >90% at 470 nm is obtained because octahedron CsPbBr3 QD surface defects are removed by the Cs4PbBr6 NCs. The defect‐engineered QDs exhibit high colloidal stability, retaining >90% of their initial PLQY after >120 days of ambient storage. Furthermore, thermal stability is demonstrated by a lack of heat‐induced aggregation at 120 °C. Blue LEDs fabricated from CsPbBr3 QDs with reconstructed surfaces exhibit a maximum external quantum efficiency of 4.65% at 480 nm and excellent spectral stability.

PURPOSE The purpose of this study was to induce sufficient fatigue through the Jiu-Jitsu game imitation exhaustion treatment that reflects the characteristics of Jiu-Jitsu competition, and then fatigue-related indicators according to the self-healing treatment method performed during the break between each treatment and to examine the effect on Jiu-Jitsu exercise performance. METHODS Eight Jiu-Jitsu athletes (28.3±3.62 years, 24.6±2.5 kg/m2, 14.6±4.6% fat) participated in the study, and their exercise performance, RPE, lactate, CK, and CRP were measured after inducing exhaustion using the Jiu-Jitsu Fight Gone Bad (JFGB; 4 rounds×6 minutes JFGB, 12 minutes of recovery between rounds) test. These variables analyzed using two-way ANOVA with bonferroni’s correction. RESULTS All the exercise performance, lactate level, and RPE showed only the difference over time according to JFGB treatment, and there was no significant difference according to recovery methods (passive recovery; PR, active recovery; AR, cryotherapy; CTR, oxygen inhalation; OIR). On the other hand, in the case of CRP, there was no significant difference in interaction effect, group, and time main effects. CK showed a significant difference only before and after JFGB treatment, but similarly, there was no difference according to recovery methods. CONCLUSIONS Regardless of the recovery method, all variables showed a significant difference only over time according to the JFGB test, and the AR, CTR, and OIR methods were similar to the PR. However, it was observed that in the case of CK, immediately after the JFGB test, it increased significantly regardless of recovery measures.

The structure and oxygen permeability of SrCo0.9-xNb0.1SnxO3–δ (x = 0, 0.03, and 0.05) perovskite membranes were systematically investigated by co-doping the B-site of SrCoO3–δ oxide with Nb and Sn. Combined X-ray and neutron diffraction experiments showed that all materials crystallized in the tetragonal P4/mmm space group and that the crystal structures approached the ideal cubic perovskite structure with increasing Sn concentration. In addition, X-ray photoelectron spectra confirmed that Sn-doping increases the (Co, Nb, Sn)-O bond strengths. The impact of Sn-doping on the oxygen transport of dense SrCo0.9-xNb0.1SnxO3–δ membranes was also investigated, under air/He gradient, as a function of both temperature and membrane thickness. The results showed that the oxygen transport of SrCo0.9Nb0.1O3–δ is governed by oxygen ion diffusion, while the oxygen surface exchange reaction is the limiting process for the Sn-doped membranes, SrCo0.87Nb0.1Sn0.03O3–δ and SrCo0.85Nb0.1Sn0.05O3–δ.

Herein, two new series of N-substituted indole-based analogues were rationally designed, synthesized via microwave heating technology, and evaluated as noteworthy MAO-B potential inhibitors. Compared to the reported indazole-based hits VI and VII, compounds 4b and 4e exhibited higher inhibitory activities over MAO-B with IC50 values of 1.65 and 0.78 µM, respectively. When compared to the modest selectivity index of rasagiline (II, a well-known MAO-B inhibitor, SI > 50), both 4b and 4e also showed better selectivity indices (SI > 60 and 120, respectively). A further kinetic evaluation of the most potent derivative (4e) displayed a competitive mode of inhibition (inhibition constant (Ki)/MAO-B = 94.52 nM). Reasonable explanations of the elicited biological activities were presented via SAR study and molecular docking simulation. Accordingly, the remarkable MAO-B inhibitory activity of 4e (N-(1-(3-fluorobenzoyl)-1H-indol-5-yl)pyrazine-2-carboxamide), with its selectivity and competitive inhibition, advocates its potential role as a promising lead worthy of further optimization.

Objective To compare the reliability and validity of the Korean range of motion standard protocol (KRSP) for measuring joint range of motion (ROM) with those of the conventional ROM measurement using a goniometer. Methods We conducted a randomized controlled trial involving 91 healthy elderly individuals. We compared two strategies of measuring joint ROM to evaluate the reliability and validity of each standardized protocol: first, the KRSP based on the Chungnam National University guidelines and second, handheld goniometric measurement. In the first strategy, 3 examiners (1 rehabilitation doctor, 1 physical therapist, and 1 physical therapy student) independently measured joint ROM in 46 randomly selected subjects; in the second strategy, another 3 examiners (1 rehabilitation doctor, 1 physical therapist, and 1 physical therapy student) measured joint ROM in 45 randomly selected subjects. The reliability of each protocol was calculated using intraclass correlation coefficient, ICC(2,1), and root mean square error (RMSE). Results Both protocols showed good to excellent intra-rater reliability. With goniometer use, the inter-rater reliability was low—ICC(2,1), 95% confidence interval ranged from 0.643 (0.486–0.783) to -0.078 (-0.296–0.494)— and RMSE was high. With the KRSP, the inter-rater reliability ranged from 0.846 (0.686–0.931) to 0.986 (0.972–0.994) and RMSE was low. Conclusion ROM measurements using the KRSP showed excellent reliability. These results indicate that this protocol can be the reference standard for measuring ROM in clinical settings as an alternative to goniometers.

The purpose of this study was to enhance the accuracy of the calorific value estimation of coal by applying data preprocessing methods in laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS). The Savitzky–Golay (SG)-smoothing and SG derivative preprocessing methods were adopted to improve the accuracy of the prediction model. The relationship among the original, SG-smoothing-pretreated, and SG derivative-pretreated LIBS data and their elemental concentrations were determined using the partial least squares regression (PLSR) model. In order to compare the reliability of each PLSR model, the coefficient of determination, root mean square error (RMSE), relative error, and RMSE average were used. As a result, the reliability of the PLSR model processed with the SG derivative method was the highest, and the root mean square average was the lowest among the three models. The predictability of the concentration of each element using the PLSR model pre-processed by the SG derivative was confirmed with the residual predictive deviation parameter. The predicted calorific value was estimated from the predicted concentrations of elements in coal using Dulong’s equation. The PLSR model pretreated by the SG derivative showed the lowest error compared to the calorific value of mixed coals obtained via the chemical analysis.

Staphylococcus aureus, a pathogenic species of genus Staphylococcus involved in foodborne illness always remain among the top priorities of the world major concerns. In the present study, we have used recombinant SAP8 endolysin from the bacteriophage SAP8 and commercial nisin to inhibit the viability of pathogenic S. aureus KCTC 3881 cells; however, the approach was not identified as cost-effective. A gradual decrease in the viable S. aureus KCTC 3881 cell counts was observed with an increase in the concentrations of recombinant SAP8 endolysin and nisin. However, combined treatment with recombinant SAP8 endolysin and nisin decreased the viable S. aureus KCTC 3881 cell counts in a significant manner. The combination of 0.01 µM of recombinant SAP8 endolysin with 9 IU/mL and 18 IU/mL of nisin demonstrated a promising decrease in the viable cell counts of the strain. Under the scanning electron microscope, the combination treatment with 0.01 µM of recombinant SAP8 endolysin and 18 IU/mL of nisin showed complete cellular destruction of S. aureus KCTC 3881. We propose that a combination of recombinant SAP8 endolysin and nisin could be a strong alternative to antibiotics to control the growth of S. aureus including MRSA.

Sphingosine-1-phosphate-1 (S1P1) receptor agonists are well-known drugs for treating multiple sclerosis (MS) caused by autoreactive lymphocytes that attack the myelin sheath. Therefore, an effective therapeutic strategy is to reduce the lymphocytes in the blood by inducing S1P1 receptor internalization. We synthesized serinolamide A, a natural product of the sea, and performed S1P1 receptor internalization assay to evaluate functionally antagonistic S1P1 receptor agonist activity. In order to synthesize derivatives with better efficacy than serinolamide A and B, new derivatives were synthesized by introducing the phenyl ring moiety of fingolimod. Among them, compounds 19 and 21 had superior S1P1 agonistic effects to serinolamide. We also confirmed that compound 19 effectively inhibited lymphocyte outflow in peripheral lymphocyte count (PLC) assay.

Neuropathic pain is a chronic and sometimes intractable condition caused by lesions or diseases of the somatosensory nervous system. Many drugs are available but unfortunately do not provide satisfactory effects in patients, producing limited analgesia and undesirable side effects. Thus, there is an urgent need to develop new pharmaceutical agents to treat neuropathic pain. To date, highly specific agents that modulate a single target, such as receptors or ion channels, never progress to the clinic, which may reflect the diverse etiologies of neuropathic pain seen in the human patient population. Therefore, the development of multifunctional compounds exhibiting two or more pharmacological activities is an attractive strategy for addressing unmet medical needs for the treatment of neuropathic pain. To develop novel multifunctional compounds, key pharmacophores of currently used clinical pain drugs, including pregabalin, fluoxetine and serotonin analogs, were hybridized to the side chain of tianeptine, which has been used as an antidepressant. The biological activities of the hybrid analogs were evaluated at the human transporters of neurotransmitters, including serotonin (hSERT), norepinephrine (hNET) and dopamine (hDAT), as well as mu (μ) and kappa (κ) opioid receptors. The most advanced hybrid of these multifunctional compounds, 17, exhibited multiple transporter inhibitory activities for the uptake of neurotransmitters with IC50 values of 70 nM, 154 nM and 2.01 μM at hSERT, hNET and hDAT, respectively. Additionally, compound 17 showed partial agonism (EC50 = 384 nM) at the μ-opioid receptor with no influence at the κ-opioid receptor. In in vivo pain animal experiments, the multifunctional compound 17 showed significantly reduced allodynia in a spinal nerve ligation (SNL) model by intrathecal administration, indicating that multitargeted strategies in single therapy could considerably benefit patients with multifactorial diseases, such as pain.

Backgrounds: This study aimed to compare the incidence of bile reflux, quality of life (QoL), and nutritional status among Billroth II (BII), Billroth II with Braun anastomosis (BII-B), and Roux-en-Y (RY) reconstruction after laparoscopic distal gastrectomy (LDG). Materials and Methods: We reviewed the prospective data of 397 patients from a multicentre database who underwent LDG for gastric cancer between 2018 and 2020 at 20 tertiary teaching hospitals in Korea. Postoperative endoscopic findings, QoL surveys using the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer questionnaire (C30 and STO22), and nutritional and surgical outcomes were compared among groups. Results: In endoscopic findings, bile reflux was the lowest in the RY group (n=67), followed by the BII-B (n=183) and BII groups (n =147) at 1 year (3.0 vs. 67.8 vs. 84.4%, all P<0.05). The anti-reflux capability of BII-B was statistically better than that of BII, but not as perfect as that of RY. From the perspective of QoL, BII-B was not inferior to RY, but better than BII reconstruction in causing fewer STO22 reflux symptoms at 6 and 12 months. However, only RY caused fewer C30 nausea symptoms than BII at 6 and 12 months, but not BII-B. Nutritional status and morbidities were similar among the three groups, and the operative time did not differ between the BII-B and RY groups. Conclusions: BII-B cannot substitute for RY in preventing bile reflux, shortening the operative time, or reducingmorbidities. Regarding short-term QoL, BII-B was sufficient to reduce STO22 reflux symptoms but failed to reduce C30 nausea symptoms postoperatively. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Graphite is used as a state-of-the-art anode in commercial lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) due to its highly reversible lithium-ion storage capability and low electrode potential. However, graphite anodes exhibit sluggish diffusion kinetics for lithium-ion intercalation/deintercalation, thus limiting the rate capability of commercial LIBs. In order to determine the lithium-ion diffusion coefficient of commercial graphite anodes, we employed a galvanostatic intermittent titration technique (GITT) to quantify the quasi-equilibrium open circuit potential and diffusion coefficient as a function of lithium-ion concentration and potential for a commercial graphite electrode. Three plateaus are observed in the quasi-equilibrium open circuit potential curves, which are indicative of a mixed phase upon lithium-ion intercalation/deintercalation. The obtained diffusion coefficients tend to increase with increasing lithium concentration and exhibit an insignificant difference between charge and discharge conditions. This study reveals that the diffusion coefficient of graphite obtained with the GITT (1 × 10−11 cm2/s to 4 × 10−10 cm2/s) is in reasonable agreement with literature values obtained from electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. The GITT is comparatively simple and direct and therefore enables systematic measurements of ion intercalation/deintercalation diffusion coefficients for secondary ion battery materials.

Escherichia coli O157:H7 is a global concern that causes serious diseases, such as hemolytic uremic syndrome and bloody diarrhea. To control E. coli O157:H7 in food, a novel siphophage, BECP10, that targets the O157 serotype was isolated and characterized. Unlike other E. coli phages, BECP10 can only infect E. coli O157 strains, and thus, did not infect other strains. The 48 kbp genome of BECP10 contained 76 open reading frames (ORFs), including 33 putative functional ORFs. The phage did not contain lysogeny-related modules or toxin-associated genes, suggesting that the phage might be strictly lytic. The tail spike protein (TSP) sequence had very low homology with the reported T1-like phages, indicating that TSP might be related to this unique host spectrum. The specific O-antigen residue of E. coli O157:H7 may be a key factor for phage infection by adsorption and receptor identification. The phage exhibited strong antibacterial activity against E. coli O157:H7 over a broad pH range and showed little development of phage-insensitive mutants. The phage sustained viability on the burger patties and reduced E. coli O157:H7 to a non-detectable level without the emergence of resistant cells at low temperatures for five days. Therefore, phage BECP10 might be a good biocontrol agent for E. coli O157:H7-contaminated food matrices.

Metal halide perovskites have been investigated for the next-generation light-emitting materials because of their advantages such as high photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY), excellent color purity, and facile color tunability. Recently, red- and green-emissive perovskite light-emitting diodes (PeLEDs) have shown an external quantum efficiency (EQE) of over 20%, whereas there is still room for improvement for blue emissive PeLEDs. By controlling the halide compositions of chloride (Cl−) and bromide (Br−), the bandgap of perovskites can be easily tuned for blue emission. However, halide segregation easily occurrs in the mixed-halide perovskite under light irradiation and LED operation because of poor phase stability. Here, we explore the effect of A-site cation engineering on the phase stability of the mixed-halide perovskites and find that a judicious selection of low dipole moment A cation (formamidinium or cesium) suppresses the halide segregation. This enables efficient bandgap tuning and electroluminescence stability for sky blue emissive PeLEDs over the current density of 15 mA/cm2.
