Abstract Information industry is one of the major drivers of the world economy. Its rapid growth, however, leads to severe heat problem which strongly hinders further development. This calls for a non-charge-based technology. Magnon, capable of transmitting spin information without electron movement, holds tremendous potential in post-Moore era. Given the cornerstone role of the field effect transistor in modern electronics, creating its magnonic equivalent is highly desired but remains a challenge. Here, we demonstrate a nonvolatile three-terminal lateral magnon field effect transistor operating at room temperature. The device consists of a ferrimagnetic insulator (Y3Fe5O12) deposited on a ferroelectric material [Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)0.7Ti0.3O3 or Pb(Zr0.52Ti0.48)O3], with three Pt stripes patterned on Y3Fe5O12 as the injector, gate, and detector, respectively. The magnon transport in Y3Fe5O12 can be regulated by the gate voltage pulses in a nonvolatile manner with a high on/off ratio. Our findings provide a solid foundation for designing energy-efficient magnon-based devices.

Recently, supershear Rayleigh waves (SRWs) have been proposed to characterize the biomechanical properties of soft tissues. The SRWs propagate along the surface of the medium, unlike surface Rayleigh waves, SRWs propagate faster than bulk shear waves. However, their behavior and application in biological tissues is still elusive. In brain tissue elastography, shear waves combined with magnetic resonance elastography or ultrasound elastography are generally used to quantify the shear modulus, but high spatial resolution elasticity assessment in 10 μm scale is still improving. Here, we develop an air-coupled ultrasonic transducer for noncontact excitation of SRWs and Rayleigh waves in brain tissue, use optical coherent elastography (OCE) to detect, and reconstruct the SRW propagation process; in combing with a derived theoretical model of SRWs on a free boundary surface, we quantify the shear modulus of brain tissue with high spatial resolution. We first complete validation experiments using a homogeneous isotropic agar phantom, and the experimental results clearly show the SRW is 1.9649 times faster than the bulk shear waves. Furthermore, the propagation velocity of SRWs in both the frontal and parietal lobe regions of the brain is all 1.87 times faster than the bulk shear wave velocity. Finally, we evaluated the anisotropy in different brain regions, and the medulla oblongata region had the highest anisotropy index. Our study shows that the OCE system using the SRW model is a new potential approach for high-resolution assessment of the biomechanical properties of brain tissue.

This work aims to depth-resolved quantitatively analyze the effect of different stromal ablation amounts on the corneal biomechanical properties during small incision lenticule extraction (SMILE) using optical coherence elastography (OCE). A 4.5-MHz ultrasonic transducer was used to excite elastic waves in the corneal tissue. The OCE system combined with the antisymmetric Lamb wave model was employed to achieve a high-resolution, high-sensitivity, and depth-resolved quantitative detection of the corneal Young’s modulus. Eighteen rabbits were randomly divided into three groups; each group had six rabbits. The first and second groups underwent -3D and -6D SMILE surgeries, and the third group was the control group, respectively. Young’s modulus of the corneal cap and residual stromal bed (RSB) were both increased after SMILE, which shared the stress under intraocular pressure (IOP). Furthermore, the Young’s modulus of both the corneal cap and RSB after 3D SMILE group were significantly lower than that in the -6D group, which indicated that the increases in the post-operative corneal Young’s modulus were positively correlated with the amount of stromal ablation. The OCE system for quantitative spatial characterization of corneal biomechanical properties can provide useful information on the extent of safe ablation for SMILE procedures.

We have proved that Cs2SnI6−xBrx (x = 0–6) can be eutectic in the whole composition, and the eutectic phase has the similar cubic symmetry with both of the end phases (space group of Fm3¯m). The lattice constant decreases from around 11.67 Å (x = 0) to around 10.83 Å (x = 6). Hall-plot analysis shows that the strain varies sharply near the two end materials, while the strain is almost independent of Br content at the middle Br content. The bandgap, on the other hand, increases from 1.26 eV to 2.93 eV with increasing the Br content, which might be expected in fabricating the continuous junction solar cells.

A novel ARF‐OCE system based on a ultrasmall ultrasound transducer is presented for in vivo rabbit corneal biomechanics evaluation. This is the smallest ultrasound transducer reported in the literature for nondestructive mechanical excitation of cornea. The biomechanics of healthy corneas, keratoconus, and CXL procedures were evaluated, and the results demonstrate that ARF‐OCE can evaluate the effects of different surgical protocols on corneal biomechanics. Bi2FeVO7 was prepared by a solid-state reaction technique for the first time and the structural and photocatalytic properties of Bi2FeVO7 were studied. The results shows that this compound crystallized in the tetragonal crystal system with space group I4/mmm. Moreover, the band gap of Bi2FeVO7 was estimated to be about 2.22(6) eV. For the photocatalytic water splitting reaction, H2 or O2 evolution was observed from pure water with Bi2FeVO7 as the photocatalyst by ultraviolet light irradiation. Degradation of aqueous methylene blue (MB) dye by photocatalytic way over this compound was further studied under visible light irradiation. Bi2FeVO7 shows higher catalytic activity compared to TiO2 (P-25) for MB photocatalytic degradation under visible light irradiation. Complete removal of aqueous MB was realized after visible light irradiation for 170 min with Bi2FeVO7 as the photocatalyst. The reduction of the total organic carbon (TOC) and the formation of inorganic products, SO2-4 and NO-3 revealed the continuous mineralization of aqueous MB during the photocatalytic course. Walnut oils are of important academic and economic value, and are becoming one of the most important woody oils. Accurate and moderate refining techniques are required to produce high‐quality walnut oils. In this work, walnut oils obtained from cold processing were refined in three typical techniques, mainly chemical refining, water degumming, and molecular distillation. Physicochemical properties (acid value and peroxide value [POV]), minor components (tocopherol, polyphenols, and phytosterol), oxidative stability indices, and volatile compounds were analyzed to find out the appropriate refining method for the cold‐pressed walnut oils. Quality indices of all the refined oils from the three different refining methods met the requirements of the national standard, of which the POV of chemically refined oil (0.241 g/100 g) was higher than crude oil (0.058 g/100 g). Water degumming was most suitable for retaining of bioactive compounds, for example, the tocopherol was 259.40 mg/kg, the polyphenols was 44.54 mg GAE/kg, and the phytosterol was 987.32 mg/kg, but oxidation stability of the obtained oil (3.09 h) was lower than that of molecular distilled oil (4.18 h). Initial physicochemical properties especially the POV had a significant impact on oxidation stability. There is a trade‐off between the retention of nutrients and extending shelf life, indicating appropriate refining techniques should be developed; that is, water degumming is suggested to be involved in producing high‐quality cold‐pressed walnut oils. Passivation on the surface or interface is one of the key issues in fabricating the efficient and stable perovskite solar cells (PSCs). In this Letter, we report a way to passivate the buried interface on the perovskite film by optimizing the growth kinetics of the precursor film. A solvent-controlled growth (SCG) strategy of the precursor film is adopted, that is, inducing the solvent volatilization of the precursor film before high-temperature annealing. It is found that the solvent distribution of the precursor film is the key to the growth kinetics of perovskite films. The vacuum pretreated precursor film can obtain a dense buried interface to avoid the generation of small grains and pores at the interfaces of the perovskite/electron transport layer after high temperature crystallization. After passivation, non-radiative recombination in CsPbI2Br films is suppressed, accompanied by favorable carrier separation and extraction at the interface. The power conversion efficiency of all-inorganic CsPbI2Br carbon-based PSCs without a hole transport layer reaches 13.46%. We developed a novel acoustic radiation force optical coherence elastography (ARF‐OCE) based on an ultrasmall ultrasound transducer for quantitative biomechanics evaluations of in vivo cornea. A custom single‐sided meta‐ultrasonic transducer with an outer diameter of 1.8 mm, focal spot diameter of 1.6 mm, central frequency of 930 kHz, and focal length of 0.8 mm was applied to excite the sample. The sample arm of the ARF‐OCE system employed a three‐dimensional printed holder that allowed for ultrasound excitation and ARF‐OCE detection. The phase‐resolved algorithm was combined with a Lamb wave model to depth‐resolved evaluate corneal biomechanics after keratoconus and cross‐linking treatments (CXL). The results showed that, compare to the healthy cornea, the Lamb wave velocity was significantly reduced in the keratoconus, increased in the cornea after CXL, and increased with cross‐linked irradiation energy in the cornea. Magnon polarons are novel elementary excitations possessing hybrid magnonic and phononic signatures, and are responsible for many exotic spintronic and magnonic phenomena. Despite long-term sustained experimental efforts in chasing for magnon polarons, direct spectroscopic evidence of their existence is hardly observed. Here, we report the direct observation of magnon polarons using neutron spectroscopy on a multiferroic Fe2Mo3O8 possessing strong magnon-phonon coupling. Specifically, below the magnetic ordering temperature, a gap opens at the nominal intersection of the original magnon and phonon bands, leading to two separated magnon-polaron bands. Each of the bands undergoes mixing, interconverting and reversing between its magnonic and phononic components. We attribute the formation of magnon polarons to the strong magnon-phonon coupling induced by Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction. Intriguingly, we find that the band-inverted magnon polarons are topologically nontrivial. These results uncover exotic elementary excitations arising from the magnon-phonon coupling, and offer a new route to topological states by considering hybridizations between different types of fundamental excitations.A magnetic crystal hosts both magnons, the quanta of spin waves, and phonons, the quanta of lattice vibrations. In some materials with strong coupling between spins and lattices, a magnon-polaron can form. Effects of Sn doping at Ru site on the structural, magnetic, and transport behavior of polycrystalline SrRu1−xSnxO3 (x ≤ 0.1) have been investigated here. Substitution of Sn4+ for Ru4+ remains the same crystal symmetry with that of Sn‐free SrRuO3, while induces the Ru(Sn)O6 octahedral distortions. Samples with the low doping concentration (x ≤ 0.08) show a metallic behavior at high temperature, while a metal to insulator transition occurs at low temperature. On the other hand, an insulator behavior is detected for sample with x = 0.1, which follows Arrhenius‐type process in the temperature range of 80–140 K and Mott's variable range hopping model in the temperature range of 140–300 K. Further, we find that Sn4+ has a significant effect on the magnetic behavior of Sn doping in SrRuO3 where ferromagnetic transition temperature and magnetic moment decrease rapidly due to octahedral distortion and site dilution. In general, it is hard to grow large single crystals with a one-dimensional chain structure due to the preferred growth direction and chain breakage. Most reported one-dimensional lead iodine chain single crystals can grow long, but they are difficult to grow thick. Here, we demonstrate for the first time the growth of 2 mm × 4 mm × 8 mm sized single crystal one dimensional organic lead iodine perovskite – DMAPbI3 ((CH3)2NH2PbI3). Benzylamine addition to the solution may help to dissolve crystals with high defect concentrations so that the crystal can grow larger. Through the measurement on the large single crystal, we found that DMAPbI3 is ferroelectric below 260 K, and the dielectric constant of DMAPbI3 at various frequencies at room temperature is as high as more than 100. Blue photoluminescence centered at 2.6 eV was reported. The ferroelectricity of DMAPbI3 may be used to design more stable and efficient organometal halide perovskite solar cells and photoelectric devices. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Electric‐field‐controlled magnetism is of importance in realizing energy efficient, dense and fast information storage and processing. Strain‐mediated converse magneto‐electric (ME) coupling between ferromagnetic and ferroelectric heterostructure shows promise for realizing electric‐controlled magnetism at room temperature and is attracting a number of recent investigations. However, such ME‐effect studies have mainly focus on magnetic metals. In this work, high quality yttrium iron garnet (Y3Fe5O12 (YIG)) films are deposited directly onto (100)‐oriented single‐crystal Pb (Mg1/3Nb2/3)0.7Ti0.3O3 (PMN‐PT) substrates by means of magnetron sputtering. The electric‐field‐induced polarization switching and lattice strain in the PMN‐PT substrate results in two distinct magnetization states in the YIG film that are nonvolatile and electrically reversible. Because of the direct contact between the YIG and the PMN‐PT substrate, an efficient ME coupling and an almost 90° rotation of the easy axis of the YIG film can be realized. Furthermore, the electric‐field‐controlled hysteresis loop‐like ferromagnetic resonance field shifts and spin pumping signals are observed in Pt/YIG/PMN‐PT heterostructures. Thus, the obstacle is overcome via growing high‐quality YIG thin films directly onto PMN‐PT substrates and an efficient manipulation of magnetism and pure spin current transport by electric field is thereby realized. These findings are instructive for future low‐power magnetic insulator‐based spintronic devices.
