9. Effect of 1H‐NMR serum lipoproteins on immunotherapy response in advanced triple‐negative breast cancer patients.

Abstract

We previously reported the results of a phase II trial of anti‐PD‐1 antibody plus anti‐vascular endothelial growth factor receptor 2 inhibitors and eribulin in heavily pretreated advanced triple‐negative breast cancer with a favorable objective response rate (ORR) of 37.0% (NCT04303741). Here we report updated survival outcomes and serum metabolite changes of the study. Proton nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy was used to detect metabolite dynamics and explore biomarkers for response. We found that treatment‐sensitive patients had higher very low‐density lipoprotein‐related metabolite expression at baseline. A lipid proteomics model consisting of six metabolites predicted ORR and progression‐free survival at 6 months with area under the receiver operating characteristic curves of 0.88 and 0.87, respectively. Serum asparagine and sarcosine concentrations were significantly higher after treatment in treatment‐resistant patients. In conclusion, we constructed a model consisting of six metabolites to identify patients who benefit more from the triplet treatment, and asparagine and sarcosine may be associated with treatment resistance. Abstract

Objective: To investigate the relationship between gasdermin D (GSDMD) expression and the invasion of adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC). Methods: Immunohistochemistry (IHC) was used to examine GSDMD expression in tumours and adjacent non-cancerous (ANC) tissues from 33 patients with salivary ACC patients and in tumour samples from 29 patients with pleomorphic adenoma (PA). Lentiviral infection was used to stably overexpress GSDMD in ACC-LM and ACC-83 cells (GSDMD-ov cells), which were subjected to transwell and scratch tests to assess their invasive abilities compared to control cells. 23. Informal Payments and Regulations in China's Healthcare System : Red Packets and Institutional Reform

Abstract

This text addresses the key issue of informal payments, or ‘red packets', in the Chinese Healthcare system. It considers how transactions take place at the clinical level as well as their regulation. Analysing the practice from the perspectives of institutions and power structure, it examines how institutional changes in the pre-reform and reform era have changed the power structure between medical professions, patients and the Party-state, and how these changes have given rise and perpetuate the practice. Drawing from qualitative data from interviews of medical professionals, the author recognises the medical profession as a major player in the health care system and presents their perception of the practice as the taker of ‘red packets'and their interactions with the patient and the state surrounding the illegal practice in an authoritarian power structure. The books considers the institutional reasons that motivate doctors to take, patients to give, and the government to'tolerate'red packets, arguing that the bureaucratization of the medical profession, society of acquaintances and shortage of quality of medical services jointly create an institutional setting that has given rise to these informal payments. Contributing to a rounded understanding of the problems of healthcare reform in China, this book is a key read for all scholars interested in the issue of informal payments and healthcare politics in transition economies.
