Abstract

The article presents guidelines for the management of acute chest syndrome (ACS) in sickle cell disease (SCD). The guidelines include pulmonary embolism, fluid overload, opiate narcosis and hypoventilation may cause or trigger ACS, patients should be monitored for predictors of severity which include worsening hypoxia, increasing respiratory rate and decreasing platelet count, and the hospitals should have a treatment pathway for ACS.

This article focuses on various persons working in the theater industry. Michael Lowe is a recent graduate of the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music's musical theater program. Tiffany Haas appeared in the play "Hello Dolly!" at the Kansas City Starlight Theatre and will join Brian Sears in San Jose, California for the play "West Side Story." Andrew Ford appeared in the play "Beauty and the Beast" at La Comedia Dinner Theatre. He has joined the resident acting company of the Naples Dinner Theatre, in Florida, for the 2005-06 season.
