R1 - Abstract
Aims:\ud The safety and efficacy of the novel selective cardiac myosin activator, omecamtiv mecarbil, in patients with heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) is tested in the Global Approach to Lowering Adverse Cardiac outcomes Through Improving Contractility in Heart Failure (GALACTIC‐HF) trial. Here we describe the baseline characteristics of participants in GALACTIC‐HF and how these compare with other contemporary trials.\ud \ud Methods and Results:\ud Adults with established HFrEF, New York Heart Association functional class (NYHA) ≥ II, EF ≤35%, elevated natriuretic peptides and either current hospitalization for HF or history of hospitalization/ emergency department visit for HF within a year were randomized to either placebo or omecamtiv mecarbil (pharmacokinetic‐guided dosing: 25, 37.5 or 50 mg bid). 8256 patients [male (79%), non‐white (22%), mean age 65 years] were enrolled with a mean EF 27%, ischemic etiology in 54%, NYHA II 53% and III/IV 47%, and median NT‐proBNP 1971 pg/mL. HF therapies at baseline were among the most effectively employed in contemporary HF trials. GALACTIC‐HF randomized patients representative of recent HF registries and trials with substantial numbers of patients also having characteristics understudied in previous trials including more from North America (n = 1386), enrolled as inpatients (n = 2084), systolic blood pressure

Byline: Jose E. Naranjo, Carlos Gonzalez, Ricardo Garcia, Teresa De Pedro, Miguel A. Sotelo The goal of Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) is to fully automate driving. ITS is the application of technology to vehicles and roadways to increase safety. Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) and other assistants are all part of ITS. There is consensus among professionals that developments will move progressively from ACC to automatic driving. In this paper, we resent an approximation to automatic driving, which differs from other developments mainly in that it is based upon global navigation satellite system and artificial vision information. Also the computation for navigation is based on a set of fuzzy logic controllers that manage the vehicle actuators. Mass-produced cars have been instrumented to behave automatically when circulating in private circuits. A fuzzy controller has been designed to manage the vehicle actuators: steering wheel, throttle and brake. Automatic driving tests have been performed, resulting in very human-like vehicle management, in steering as well as speed control.

7. E-Commerce und Verbundgruppen : Strukturierung von Konzepten und Unterstützung bei der Auswahl

- Abstract

9. Family and Empire : The Fernández De Córdoba and the Spanish Realm
- Author

Yuen-Gen Liang and Yuen-Gen Liang
- Abstract
In the medieval and early modern periods, Spain shaped a global empire from scattered territories spanning Europe, Africa, and the Americas. Historians either have studied this empire piecemeal—one territory at a time—or have focused on monarchs endeavoring to mandate the allegiance of far-flung territories to the crown. For Yuen-Gen Liang, these approaches do not adequately explain the forces that connected the territories that the Spanish empire comprised. In Family and Empire, Liang investigates the horizontal ties created by noble family networks whose members fanned out to conquer and subsequently administer key territories in Spain's Mediterranean realm.Liang focuses on the Fernández de Córdoba family, a clan based in Andalusia that set out on mobile careers in the Spanish empire at the end of the fifteenth century. Members of the family served as military officers, viceroys, royal councilors, and clerics in Algeria, Navarre, Toledo, Granada, and at the royal court. Liang shows how, over the course of four generations, their service vitally transformed the empire as well as the family. The Fernández de Córdoba established networks of kin and clients that horizontally connected disparate imperial territories, binding together religious communities—Christians, Muslims, and Jews—and political factions—Comunero rebels and French and Ottoman sympathizers—into an incorporated imperial polity. Liang explores how at the same time dedication to service shaped the personal lives of family members as they uprooted households, realigned patronage ties, and altered identities that for centuries had been deeply rooted in local communities in order to embark on imperial careers.

The series Advances in Industrial Control aims to report and encourage technology transfer in control engineering. The rapid development of control technology has an impact on all areas of the control discipline. New theory, new controllers, actuators, sensors, new industrial processes, computer methods, new applications, new philosophies, new challenges. Much of this development work resides in industrial reports, feasibility study papers and the reports of advanced collaborative projects. The series offers an opportunity for researchers to present an extended exposition of such new work in all aspects of industrial control for wider and rapid dissemination. In the mid-1960s and contemporary with Kalman's pioneering papers on sta- space models and optimal control, L.A. Zadeh began publishing papers on “fuzzy sets”. It took another decade before the fuzzy-logic controller due to Mamdani and Assilion was reported in the literature (ca. 1974), and now the fuzzy-logic control paradigm is entering its fifth decade of development and application. Thus, this new Advances in Industrial Control monograph edited by Ying Bai, Hanqi Zhuang and Dali Wang on fuzzy-logic control and its practical application comes as a timely reminder of the wide range of problems that can be solved by this continually evolving methodology.

- Abstract
The concept of CAST, computer aided systems Theory, was introduced by F. Pichler of Linz in the late 1980s to include those computer theoretical and practical developments used as tools to solve problems in system science. It was considered as the third component (the other two being CAD and CAM) that would provide for a complete picture of the path from computer and systems sciences to practical developments in science and engineering. The University of Linz organized the first CAST workshop in April 1988, which demonstrated the acceptance of the concepts by the scientific and technical community. Next, the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria joined the University of Linz to organize the first international meeting on CAST (Las Palmas February 1989), under the name EUROCAST 1989, a very successful gathering of systems theorists, computer scientists and engineers from most European countries, North America and Japan. It was agreed that EUROCAST international conferences would be organized every two years. Thus, the following EUROCAST meetings took place in Krems (1991), Las Palmas (1993), Innsbruck (1995), Las Palmas (1997), Vienna (1999), Las Palmas (2001) and Las Palmas (2003) in addition to an extra-European CAST conference in Ottawa in 1994. Selected papers from those meetings were published as Springer Lecture Notes in Computer Science vols. 410, 585, 763, 1030, 1333, 1728, 2178 and 2809 and in several special issues of Cybernetics and Systems: an lnternational Journal.
