31. An Adaptive Low-Voltage Ride-Through Method for Virtual Synchronous Generators During Asymmetrical Grid Faults

Abstract

Existing low-voltage ride-through (LVRT) methods of virtual synchronous generators (VSGs) are facing the problem of inverter damage due to prolonged overcurrent caused by the delay in fault detection. Additionally, the newly updated grid codes (GCs) mandate that inverter-based resources (IBRs) should inject negative-sequence current during asymmetrical faults. To address this issue while complying with the new GCs, this article proposes an adaptive LVRT method. At the onset of the fault, the proposed method compensates for the voltage difference between the reference and feedback values of voltage control loop, while simultaneously adjusting the angle output of the active power loop based on the phase change of the point of connection (POC) voltage and the active power output of the VSG. Thus, it enables a seamless transition between normal and LVRT conditions. Furthermore, it complies with the new GCs and guarantees the maximum utilization of the phase current. The method offers two notable advantages. First, it can achieve fast fault current limitation without the need for fault detection. Second, it eliminates the necessity for parameter design, making it straightforward to implement. The simulation results in PSCAD confirm the effectiveness of the proposed method under different asymmetrical fault conditions.

37. 5G Communication Based Distributed Fault Recovery Scheme of Active Distribution Network

Abstract

As more and more distributed power sources are connected to low and medium voltage distribution networks, the traditional single-ended passive distribution networks have evolved into multi- terminal, multi-source active distribution networks. When distributed generations with high permeability are connected to a distribution network, the structure and power flow of this network will change significantly, thus the original fault detection method and reclosing scheme may be challenged, which may cause incorrect action of protection or failure of reclosing. On basis of that, this paper proposes an active distribution network fault recovery scheme based on 5G wireless communication, in which the topology recognition technology and smart terminal units with peer-to-peer communication capability are applied. To prove the method’s feasibility, delay of 5G communication is analysed and tested online. In addition, a model of 10 kV active distribution network is built on Real Time Digital Simulation system. Principle investigation and simulation indicate that the proposed scheme can adapt to the change of network structure and implement the fault self-healing quickly.

44. Online Optimal Feedback Voltage Control of Wind Farms: Decentralized and Asynchronous Implementations

Abstract

In this letter, we propose an optimal voltage feed-back control algorithm for wind farms where the voltage set-point of wind-farm-side voltage source converter (WFVSC) and reactive powers of wind turbines (WTs) are coordinated. The proposed control establishes on the gradient descent and operates in an online fashion. Each WT updates its reactive power based on the local instantaneous terminal voltage and therefore, the proposed control can be implemented in a decentralized manner. Besides, we also address its asynchronous counterpart to enhance the practical applicability in real world.
