Generating and distributing remote entangled pairs (EPs) is the most important responsibility of quantum networks, because entanglement serves as the fundamental resource for important quantum networks applications. A key performance metric for quantum networks is the time-to-serve (TTS) for users' EP requests, which is the time to distribute EPs between the requesting users. Reducing the TTS is critically important given the limited qubit coherence time. In this paper, we study the Adaptive Continuous entanglement generation Protocol (ACP), which enables quantum network nodes to continuously generate EPs with their neighbors, while adaptively selecting the neighbors to reduce the TTS. Meanwhile, entanglement purification is used to mitigate the idling decoherence of the EPs generated by the ACP prior to the arrival user requests. We extend the capability of the SeQUeNCe simulator to allow the implementation of the ACP with full support. Then through extensive simulations, we evaluate the ACP at different network scales, demonstrating significant improvements in both the TTS (up to 94% decrease) and the fidelity (up to 0.05 increase) of distributed entanglement., Comment: 8 pages, 10 figures, accepted at QCNC 2025

In understanding strongly correlated quantum systems, quantifying the non-Gaussian nature of interparticle correlations is invaluable. We show that, for a uniform quantum gas, there exists a natural connection between non-Gaussian correlations and the generation of momentum-space entanglement. Furthermore, this entanglement can be directly measured in an experiment using time-of-flight techniques. Entanglement is a key quantum feature that enables quantum sensors to improve their sensitivity up to the Heisenberg limit. In the NV-center platform, the Heisenberg limit can only be achieved when the axes of the NV centers are parallel. Nevertheless, parallel NV centers are spectrally indistinguishable and no mechanisms to prepare entanglement in such configurations are known to date. In this work we propose for the first time a mechanism to prepare entangled states in the double quantum transition of two dipolarly coupled NV centers whose axes are parallel. Our approach is based on the NV effective Raman coupling (NV-ERC) protocol and makes use of global addressing of both NV centers with a single monochromatic microwave pulse. Supported by an adiabatic elimination analysis, several mechanisms for the preparation of different entangled states are identified which avoid participation of intermediate states in all cases, thus limiting the impact of additional unwanted noise sources. We consider the generation of different entangled states belonging to the double quantum transition, sensitive to either transverse electric fields or longitudinal magnetic fields, all with a fourfold improved sensitivity compared to conventional single NV settings., Comment: Comments are welcome

Integrated photonic microresonators have become an essential resource for generating photonic qubits for quantum information processing, entanglement distribution and networking, and quantum communications. The pair generation rate is enhanced by reducing the microresonator radius, but this comes at the cost of increasing the frequency mode spacing and reducing the quantum information spectral density. Here, we circumvent this rate-density trade-off in an AlGaAs-on-insulator photonic device by multiplexing an array of 20 small-radius microresonators each producing a 650-GHz-spaced comb of time-energy entangled-photon pairs. The resonators can be independently tuned via integrated thermo-optic heaters, enabling control of the mode spacing from degeneracy up to a full free spectral range. We demonstrate simultaneous pumping of five resonators with up to $50$ GHz relative comb offsets, where each resonator produces pairs exhibiting time-energy entanglement visibilities up to 95$\%$, coincidence-to-accidental ratios exceeding 5,000, and an on-chip pair rate up to 2.6 GHz/mW$^2$ per comb line -- more than 40 times improvement over prior work. As a demonstration, we generate frequency-bin qubits in a maximally entangled two-qubit Bell state with fidelity exceeding 87$\%$ (90$\%$ with background correction) and detected frequency-bin entanglement rates up to 7 kHz ($\sim 70$ MHz on-chip pair rate) using $\sim 250$ $\mu$W pump power. Multiplexing small-radius microresonators combines the key capabilities required for programmable and dense photonic qubit encoding while retaining high pair-generation rates, heralded single-photon purity, and entanglement fidelity.

Solid-state quantum emitters, such as quantum dots, color centers, rare-earth dopants, and organic molecules, offer qubit systems that integrate well with chip-scale photonic and electronic devices. To fully harness their potential for quantum applications requires the generation of entanglement between two remote qubits with high fidelity and efficiency. In this article, we compare the performance of three common photon-mediated entanglement schemes under realistic noise for solid-state quantum emitters, including optical dephasing and spectral diffusion. We identify the optimal scheme across different noise regimes and calculate the measurement parameters needed to achieve the highest entanglement fidelity at a given rate. Additionally, we explore the effects of temporal and spectral filtering in enhancing entanglement fidelity. Our findings provide practical guidelines for selecting optimal entanglement schemes and outline the measurement strategies for achieving better entanglement fidelity., Comment: 8 pages, 5 figures

A general entanglement generation protocol between remote stationary qubits using single-photon reflection in a photonic network is explored theoretically. The nodes of the network consist of single qubits that are typically represented by the spin of a color center, each localized in a separate optical cavity and linked to other nodes via photonic links such as optical fibers. We derive a model applicable to a wide range of parameters and scenarios to describe the nodes and the local spin-photon interaction accounting for the pulsed (finite bandwidth) nature of flying single photons while optimizing the rate and fidelity. We investigate entanglement generation between remote qubits and tailor protocols to a variety of physical implementations with different properties. Of particular interest is the regime of weak coupling and low cooperativity between spin and cavity which is relevant in the cases of the nitrogen and silicon vacancy centers in diamond. The dynamics and processes involved in particle-molecule scattering, including nuclear dynamics, is described and analyzed by different quantum information quantities along the different stages of the scattering. The main process studied and characterized with the information quantities is the interatomic coulombic electronic capture (ICEC), an inelastic process that can lead to dissociation of the target molecule. The analysis is focused in a one-dimensional transversely confined $\text{NeHe}$ molecule model used to simulate the scattering between an electron $\text{e}^-$(particle) and a $\text{NeHe}^+$ ion (molecule). The time-independent Schr\"odinger equation (TISE) is solved using the Finite Element Method (FEM) with a self-developed Julia package FEMTISE to compute potential energy curves (PECs) and the parameters of the interactions between particles. The time-dependent Schr\"odinger equation (TDSE) is solved using the Multi-configuration time-dependent Hartree (MCTDH) algorithm. The time dependent electronic and nuclear probability densities are calculated for different electron incoming energies, evidencing elastic and inelastic processes that can be correlated to changes in von Neumann entropy, conditional mutual information and Shannon entropies. The expectation value of the position of the particles, as well as their standard deviations, are analyzed along the whole dynamics and related to the entanglement during the collision and after the process is over, hence evidencing the dynamics of entanglement generation. It is shown that the correlations generated in the collision is partially retained only when the inelastic process is active.

Considering environment-induced interatomic interaction, we study the entanglement dynamics of two uniformly accelerated atoms interact with fluctuating massless scalar fields in the Minkowski vacuum with the presence of a reflecting boundary. The two atoms are initially prepared in a state such that one is in the ground state and other is in the excited state, which is separable. When the acceleration is small, the rate of entanglement generation at the initial time and the maximum of concurrence generated during evolution oscillate with the distance between the atoms and the boundary before reaching a stable value, and may decrease non-monotonically with the acceleration, which means that the anti-Unruh phenomenon can exist for some situation even when environmental considerations are taken into account. The results show that there exists the competition of the vacuum fluctuations caused by the boundary and the acceleration. In addition, the time evolution of concurrence will not be affected by the environment-induced interatomic interaction in some conditions. For a larger acceleration, when the environment-induced interatomic interaction is considered, the concurrence may disappear later compared with the result when the environment-induced interatomic interaction is neglected., Comment: 15 pages, 10 figures

Open quantum systems are susceptible to losses in information, energy, and particles due to their surrounding environment. One novel strategy to mitigate these losses is to transform them into advantages for quantum technologies through tailored non-Hermitian quantum systems. In this work, we theoretically propose a fast generation of multipartite entanglement in non-Hermitian qubits. Our findings reveal that weakly coupled non-Hermitian qubits can accelerate multiparty entanglement generation by thousands of times compared to Hermitian qubits, in particular when approaching the $2^n$-th order exceptional points of $n$ qubits in the ${\cal P}{\cal T}-$ symmetric regime. Furthermore, we show that Hermitian qubits can generate GHZ states with a high fidelity more than $0.9995$ in a timescale comparable to that of non-Hermitian qubits, but at the expense of intense driving and large coupling constant. Our approach is scalable to a large number of qubits, presenting a promising pathway for advancing quantum technologies through the non-Hermiticity and higher-order exceptional points in many-body quantum systems., Comment: 5 figures

Photons' frequency degree of freedom is promising to realize large-scale quantum information processing. Quantum frequency combs (QFCs) generated in integrated nonlinear microresonators can produce multiple frequency modes with narrow linewidth. Here, we utilize polarization-entangled QFCs to generate discrete frequency-bin entangled states. Fourteen pairs of polarization-entangled photons with different frequencies are simultaneously transformed into frequency-bin entangled states. The characteristic of frequency-bin entanglement is demonstrated by Hong-Ou-Mandel interference, which can be performed with single or multiple frequency pairs in parallel. Our work paves the way for harnessing large-scale frequency-bin entanglement and converting between different degrees of freedom in quantum information processing.

We explore the entanglement dynamics of two detectors undergoing uniform acceleration and circular motion within a massive scalar field, while also investigating the influence of the anti-Unruh effect on entanglement harvesting. Contrary to the conventional understanding of the weak anti-Unruh effect, where entanglement typically increases, we observe that the maximum entanglement between detectors does not exhibit a strict monotonic dependence on detector acceleration. Particularly at low accelerations, fluctuations in the entanglement maxima show a strong correlation with fluctuations in detector transition rates.We also find that the maximum entanglement of detectors tends to increase with smaller field mass. Novelly, our findings indicate the absence of a strong anti-Unruh effect in (3+1)-dimensional massive scalar fields. Instead, thermal effects arising from acceleration contribute to a decrease in the detector entanglement maximum.

Dissipation is usually considered a negative factor for observing quantum effects and for harnessing them for quantum technologies. Here we propose a scheme for speeding up the generation of quantum entanglement between two coupled qubits by introducing a strong dissipation channel to one of these qubits. The maximal entanglement is conditionally established by evenly distributing a single excitation between these two qubits. When the excitation is initially held by the dissipative qubit, the dissipation accelerates the excitation re-distribution process for the quantum state trajectory without quantum jumps. Our results show that the time needed to conditionally attain the maximal entanglement is monotonously decreased as the dissipative rate is increased. We further show that this scheme can be generalized to accelerate the production of the W state for the three-qubit system, where one NH qubit is symmetrically coupled to two Hermitian qubits., Comment: 2 figures

We investigate the generation of steady-state entanglement between two atoms resulting from the fluctuation-mediated Casimir-Polder (CP) interactions near a surface. Starting with an initially separable state of the atoms, we analyze the atom-atom entanglement dynamics for atoms placed at distances in the range of $\sim25$ nm away from a planar medium, examining the effect of medium properties and geometrical configuration of the atomic dipoles. We show that perfectly conducting and superconducting surfaces yield an optimal steady-state concurrence value of approximately 0.5. Furthermore, although the generated entanglement decreases with medium losses for a metal surface, we identify an optimal distance from the metal surface that assists in entanglement generation by the surface. While fluctuation-mediated interactions are typically considered detrimental to the coherence of quantum systems at nanoscales, our results demonstrate a mechanism for leveraging such interactions for entanglement generation., Comment: 7 pages, 3 figures

Collision is a useful tool for revealing quantum effects and realizing quantum informational tasks. We demonstrate that repeated collisions by itinerant electrons can dissipatively drive two remote spin qubits into an entangled state in a generic collisional framework. A coherent spin exchange with either qubit facilitates entanglement generation. When combined with proper local driving, these collisions induce an entangled steady state in most collision configurations. Particularly, the collision which is symmetric for the two qubits results in a unique steady state close to a maximally entangled state. Due to the dissipative nature of the process, the entanglement persists in the presence of decoherence, provided the collision frequency exceeds the decoherence rate. Our model can be experimentally implemented using single-electron sources.

We show that the generating and transfer of entanglement during adiabatic interactions can be traced to a succession of avoided energy level crossings at which eigenvalues swap their eigenvectors. These swaps of eigenvectors weave the entanglement in multi-partite systems. The efficiency of this weaving of entanglement depends on the narrowness of the avoided level crossings and it is, therefore, constraining the speed of adiabatic evolution. This relates an adiabatic quantum computation's complexity, as measured by its minimum duration, to that quantum computation's usage of the resource of entanglement. To derive these results, we employ the spectral theorem to decompose interaction Hamiltonians into rank-one projectors and we then use the adiabatic theorem to successively adiabatically introduce these projectors. For each projector activation, using recent exact results on the behaviour of eigensystems under the addition of Hamiltonians, we can then non-perturbatively calculate the entanglement dynamics. Our findings provide new tools for the analysis and control of the dynamics of entanglement.

As quantum information technologies advance they face challenges in scaling and connectivity. In particular, two necessities remain independent of the technological implementation: the need for connectivity between distant qubits and the need for efficient generation of entanglement. Perfect State Transfer is a technique which realises the time optimal transfer of a quantum state between distant nodes of qubit lattices with only nearest-neighbour couplings, hence providing an important tool to improve device connectivity. Crucially, the transfer protocol results in effective parity-dependent non-local interactions, extending its utility to the efficient generation of entangled states. Here, we experimentally demonstrate Perfect State Transfer and the generation of multi-qubit entanglement on a chain of superconducting qubits. The system consists of six fixed-frequency transmon qubits connected by tunable couplers, where the couplings are controlled via parametric drives. By simultaneously activating all couplings and engineering their individual amplitudes and frequencies, we implement Perfect State Transfer on up to six qubits and observe the respective single-excitation dynamics for different initial states. We then apply the protocol in the presence of multiple excitations and verify its parity-dependent property, where the number of excitations within the chain controls the phase of the transferred state. Finally, we utilise this property to prepare a multi-qubit Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger state using only a single transfer operation, demonstrating its application for efficient entanglement generation., Comment: 16 pages, 10 figures

We investigated the optimal control of a continuous variable system, focusing on entanglement generation in an optomechanical system without utilizing Fock basis cutoffs. Using the Krotov algorithm to optimize the dynamics of the covariance matrix, we illustrated how to design a control objective function to manipulate the dynamics of the system to generate a desirable target state. We showed that entanglement between the macroscopic mechanical mirror and the quantum optical cavity can be reliably generated through imposing the control on the detuning of the external laser field. It has be shown that the control may be still achieved when imposing spectral constraints on the external field to restrict it to low-frequency components. In addition, we systematically studies the effects of quantum control on non-Markovian open system dynamics. We observed that memory effects can play a beneficial role in mitigating the detrimental impact of environmental noises. We investigate the entanglement generation or harvesting between two identical Unruh-DeWitt detectors in the cosmological de Sitter spacetime. We consider two comoving two-level detectors at a coincident spatial position. The detectors are assumed to be unentangled initially. The detectors are individually coupled to a scalar field, which eventually leads to coupling between the two detectors. We consider two kinds of scalar fields -- conformally symmetric and massless minimally coupled, for both real and complex cases. By tracing out the degrees of freedom corresponding to the scalar field, we construct the reduced density matrix for the two detectors, whose eigenvalues characterise transitions between the energy levels of the detectors. By using the existing results for the detector response functions per unit proper time for these fields, we next compute the logarithmic negativity, quantifying the degree of entanglement generated at late times between the two detectors. Entanglement, a hallmark of quantum mechanics, is a vital resource for quantum technologies. Generating highly entangled multipartite states is a key goal in current quantum experiments. We unveil a novel framework for understanding entanglement generation dynamics in Hamiltonian systems by quantum delocalization of an effective operator wavefunction on a correlation landscape. Our framework establishes a profound connection between the exponentially fast generation of multipartite entanglement, witnessed by the quantum Fisher information, and the linearly increasing asymptotics of hopping amplitudes governing the delocalization dynamics in Krylov space. We illustrate this connection using the paradigmatic Lipkin-Meshkov-Glick model and highlight potential signatures in chaotic Feingold-Peres tops. Our results provide a transformative tool for understanding and harnessing rapid entanglement production in complex quantum systems, providing a pathway for quantum enhanced technologies by large-scale entanglement.

We investigate the thermodynamic constraints on the pivotal task of entanglement generation using out-of-equilibrium states through a model-independent framework with minimal assumptions. We establish a necessary and sufficient condition for a thermal process to generate bipartite qubit entanglement, starting from an initially separable state. Consequently, we identify the set of system states that cannot be entangled, when no external work is invested. In the regime of infinite temperature, we analytically construct this set; while for finite temperature, we provide a simple criterion to verify whether any given initial state is or is not entanglable. Furthermore, we provide an explicit construction of the future thermal cone of entanglement - the set of entangled states that a given separable state can thermodynamically evolve to. We offer a detailed discussion on the properties of this cone, focusing on the interplay between entanglement and its volumetric properties. We investigate the driven-dissipative dynamics of 1D and 2D arrays of multilevel atoms interacting via dipole-dipole interactions and trapped at subwavelength scales. Here we show that in the weakly driven low excitation regime, multilevel atoms, in contrast to two-level atoms, can become strongly entangled. The entanglement manifests as the growth of collective spin-waves in the ground state manifold, and survives even after turning off the drive. We propose to use the $\sim 2.9~\mu$m transition between $\rm ^3{\rm P}_2 \leftrightarrow \, ^3{\rm D}_3$ in $\rm ^{88}Sr$ with $\rm 389~nm$ trapping light as an ideal experimental platform for validating our predictions and as a novel quantum interface for the exploration of complex many-body phenomena emerging from light-matter interactions., Comment: 7+11 pages, 4+14 figures

The qubit scalability imposes a paramount challenge in the field of quantum computing. Photonic interconnects between distinct quantum computing modules provide a solution to deal with this issue. The fundamental part of this approach is entanglement distribution via travelling photons emitted by matter qubits. However, randomness of the spontaneous emission in the matter qubits limits both the entanglement fidelity and the generation rate. In this paper, by numerical and analytical methods, we investigate the relationship between the entanglement affected by the spontaneous emission and the waveform of the pump pulse used in the photon generation. We confirm and analyze a rate-fidelity trade-off in the entanglement swapping with Gaussian pump pulses and show that a simple extension to non-Gaussian pump pulses improves the trade-off in a certain parameter region. Furthermore we extend our analysis to entanglement distribution in the general multipartite setting and show that the analysis of the bipartite entanglement can be straightforwardly applied in this case as well., Comment: 15 pages, 6 figures

In this paper, the higher energy levels of the transmon qubit are taken into consideration to investigate the continuous variable entanglement generation between the transmon qubit and the single-mode cavity. Based on the framework of cavity quantum electrodynamics, we show the entanglement generation depends on the the driving field intensity, coupling strength, cavity field frequency, and qubit frequency. The numerical results show that strong entanglement can be generated by properly tuning these parameters. It is our hope that the results presented in this paper may lead to a better understanding of quantum entanglement generation in cavity QED system and provide new perspectives for further research in quantum information processing.

Entanglement plays a crucial role in the development of quantum-enabled devices. One significant objective is the deterministic creation and distribution of entangled states, achieved, for example, through a mechanical oscillator interacting with confined electromagnetic fields. In this study, we explore a cavity resonator containing a two-sided perfect mirror. Although the mirror separates the cavity modes into two independent confined electromagnetic fields, the radiation pressure interaction gives rise to high-order effective interactions across all subsystems. Depending on the chosen resonant conditions, which are also related to the position of the mirror, we study $2n$-photon entanglement generation and bilateral photon pair emission. Demonstrating the non-classical nature of the mechanical oscillator, we provide a pathway to control these phenomena, opening potential applications in quantum technologies. Looking ahead, similar integrated devices could be used to entangle subsystems across vastly different energy scales, such as microwave and optical photons.

As quantum computing technology slowly matures and the number of available qubits on a QPU gradually increases, interest in assessing the capabilities of quantum computing hardware in a scalable manner is growing. One of the key properties for quantum computing is the ability to generate multipartite entangled states. In this paper, aspects of benchmarking entanglement generation capabilities of noisy intermediate-scale quantum (NISQ) devices are discussed based on the preparation of graph states and the verification of entanglement in the prepared states. Thereby, we use entanglement witnesses that are specifically suited for a scalable experiment design. This choice of entanglement witnesses can detect A) bipartite entanglement and B) genuine multipartite entanglement for graph states with constant two measurement settings if the prepared graph state is based on a 2-colorable graph, e.g., a square grid graph or one of its subgraphs. With this, we experimentally verify that a fully bipartite entangled state can be prepared on a 127-qubit IBM Quantum superconducting QPU, and genuine multipartite entanglement can be detected for states of up to 23 qubits with quantum readout error mitigation., Comment: 13 pages

Experimental systems with power-law interactions have recently garnered interest as promising platforms for quantum information processing. Such systems are capable of spreading entanglement superballistically and achieving an asymptotic speed-up over locally interacting systems. Recently, protocols developed by Eldredge et al. [Phys. Rev. Lett. 119, 170503 (2017)] and Tran et al. [Phys. Rev. X 11, 031016 (2021)] for the task of transferring a quantum state between distant particles quickly were shown to be optimal and saturate theoretical bounds. However, the implementation of these protocols in physical systems with long-range interactions remains to be fully realized. In this work, we provide an experimental roadmap towards realizing fast state-transfer protocols in three classes of atomic and molecular systems with dipolar interactions: polar molecules composed of alkali-metal dimers, neutral atoms in excited Rydberg states, and atoms with strong magnetic moments (e.g. dysprosium). As a guide to near-term experimental implementation, we numerically evaluate the tradeoffs between the two protocols for small system sizes and develop methods to address potential crosstalk errors that may arise during the execution of the protocols., Comment: 13+5 pages. We propose an efficient yet simple protocol to generate arbitrary symmetric entangled states with only global single-qubit rotations in a torn Hilbert space. The system is based on spin-1/2 qubits in a resonator such as atoms in an optical cavity or superconducting qubits coupled to a main bus. By sending light or microwave into the resonator, it induces AC Stark shifts on particular angular-momentum eigenstates (Dicke states) of qubits. Then we are able to generate barriers that hinder transitions between adjacent Dicke states and tear the original Hilbert space into pieces. Therefore, a simple global single-qubit rotation becomes highly non-trivial, and thus generates entanglement among the many-body system. By optimal control of energy shifts on Dicke states, we are able to generate arbitrary symmetric entangled states. We also exemplify that we can create varieties of useful states with near-unity fidelities in only one or very few steps, including W states, spin-squeezed states (SSS), and Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger (GHZ) states. Particularly, the SSS can be created by only one step with a squeezing parameter $\xi_R^2\sim1/N^{0.843}$ approaching the Heisenberg limit (HL). Our finding establishes a way for universal entanglement generations with only single-qubit drivings where all the multiple-qubit controls are integrated into simply switching on/off microwave. Generating entanglement between distributed network nodes is a prerequisite for the quantum internet. Entanglement distribution protocols based on high-dimensional photonic qudits enable the simultaneous generation of multiple entangled pairs, which can significantly reduce the required coherence time of the qubit registers. However, current schemes require fast optical switching, which is experimentally challenging. In addition, the higher degree of error correlation between the generated entangled pairs in qudit protocols compared to qubit protocols has not been studied in detail. We propose a qudit-mediated entangling protocol that completely circumvents the need for optical switches, making it more accessible for current experimental systems. Furthermore, we quantify the amount of error correlation between the simultaneously generated entangled pairs and analyze the effect on entanglement purification algorithms and teleportation-based quantum error correction. We find that optimized purification schemes can efficiently correct the correlated errors, while the quantum error correction codes studied here perform worse than for uncorrelated error models.

Entanglement between quantum network nodes is often produced using intermediary devices - such as heralding stations - as a resource. When scaling quantum networks to many nodes, requiring a dedicated intermediary device for every pair of nodes introduces high costs. Here, we propose a cost-effective architecture to connect many quantum network nodes via a central quantum network hub called an Entanglement Generation Switch (EGS). The EGS allows multiple quantum nodes to be connected at a fixed resource cost, by sharing the resources needed to make entanglement. We propose an algorithm called the Rate Control Protocol (RCP) which moderates the level of competition for access to the hub's resources between sets of users. We proceed to prove a convergence theorem for rates yielded by the algorithm. To derive the algorithm we work in the framework of Network Utility Maximization (NUM) and make use of the theory of Lagrange multipliers and Lagrangian duality. Our EGS architecture lays the groundwork for developing control architectures compatible with other types of quantum network hubs as well as system models of greater complexity.

The entanglement production is key for many applications in the realm of quantum information, but so is the identification of processes that allow to create entanglement in a fast and sustained way. Most of the advances in this direction have been circumscribed to bipartite systems only, and the rate of entanglement in multipartite system has been much less explored.Here we contribute to the identification of processes that favor the fastest and sustained generation of tripartite entanglement in a class of 3-qubit GHZ-type states. By considering a three-party interaction Hamiltonian, we analyse the dynamics of the 3-tangle and the entanglement rate to identify the optimal local operations that supplement the Hamiltonian evolution in order to speed-up the generation of three-way entanglement, and to prevent its decay below a predetermined threshold value. The appropriate local operation that maximizes the speed at which a highly-entangled state is reached has the advantage of requiring access to only one of the qubits, yet depends on the actual state of the system. Other universal (state-independent) local operations are found that conform schemes to maintain a sufficiently high amount of 3-tangle. Non-destructive heralded entanglement with photons is a valuable resource for quantum information processing. However, they generally entail ancillary particles and modes that amplify the circuit intricacy. To address this challenge, a recent work (\href{https://www.nature.com/articles/s41534-024-00845-6}{npj Quantum Information 10, 67 (2024)}) introduced a graph approach for creating multipartite entanglements with boson subtractions. Nonetheless, it remains an essential intermediate step toward practical heralded schemes: the proposition of heralded subtraction operators in bosonic linear quantum networks. This research establishes comprehensive translation rules from subtraction operators to linear optical operators, which provides a seamless path to design heralded schemes with single photons. Our method begets enhanced or previously unreported schemes for the $N$-partite GHZ state with $2N$ photons, $N$-partite W state with $2N+1$ photons and superposition of $N=3$ GHZ and W states with 9 photons. The generation and preservation of entanglement is a central goal in quantum technology. Traditionally, dissipation in quantum systems is thought to be detrimental to entanglement, however dissipation can also be utilised as a means of generating entanglement between quantum spins that are not directly interacting. In particular entanglement can be generated between two qubits, or multi qubit systems via a collective coupling to a reservoir. Quantum entanglement is an essential resource for quantum networks. However, the generation of entanglement between physical devices at remote network nodes is a challenging task towards practical implementation of quantum networks. In this work, we use the open-source Simulator of QUantum Network Communication (SeQUeNCe), developed by our team, to simulate entanglement generation between two atomic frequency comb (AFC) absorptive quantum memories to be deployed on the Argonne-Chicago quantum network. We realize the representation of photonic quantum states within truncated Fock spaces in SeQUeNCe and build models for a spontaneous parametric down-conversion (SPDC) source, AFC absorptive quantum memories, and measurement devices with non-number-resolving photon detectors. Based on these developments, we observe varying fidelity with SPDC source mean photon number, and varying entanglement generation rate with both mean photon number and memory mode number. We also simulate tomographic reconstruction of the effective density matrix for the bipartite photonic states retrieved from quantum memories. We propose a method of generating and detecting entanglement in two spatially separated excitonpolariton Bose-Einstein condensates (BECs) at steady-state. In our scheme we first create a spinor polariton BEC, such that steady-state squeezing is obtained under a one-axis twisting interaction. Then the condensate is split either physically or virtually, which results in entanglement generated between the two parts. A virtual split means that the condensate is not physically split, but its near-field image is divided into two parts and the spin correlations are deduced from polarization measurements in each half. We theoretically model and examine logarithmic negativity criterion and several correlation-based criteria to show that entanglement exists under experimentally achievable parameters., Comment: 10 pages, 5 figures

The heralded generation of entangled states underpins many photonic quantum technologies. As quantum error correction thresholds are determined by underlying physical noise mechanisms, a detailed and faithful characterization of resource states is required. Non-computational leakage, e.g. more than one photon occupying a dual-rail encoded qubit, is an error not captured by standard forms of state tomography, which postselect on photons remaining in the computational subspace. Here we use the continuous-variable (CV) formalism and first quantized state representation to develop a simulation framework that reconstructs photonic quantum states in the presence of partial distinguishability and resulting non-computational leakage errors. Using these tools, we analyze a variety of Bell state generation circuits and find that the five photon discrete Fourier transform (DFT) Bell state generation scheme [Phys Rev. Lett. 126 23054 (2021)] is most robust to such errors for near-ideal photons. Through characterization of a photonic entangling gate, we demonstrate how leakage errors prevent a modular characterization of concatenated gates using current tomographical procedures. We discuss the generation and the long-time persistence of entanglement in open two-qubit systems whose reduced dissipative dynamics is not apriori engineered but is instead subjected to filtering and Markovian feedback. In particular, we analytically study 1.) whether the latter operations may enhance the environment capability of generating entanglement at short times and 2.) whether the generated entaglement survives in the long-time regime. We show that, in the case of particularly symmetric Gorini-Kossakowski-Sudarshan-Lindblad (GKSL) it is possible to fully control the convex set of stationary states of the two-qubit reduced dynamics, therefore the asymptotic behaviour of any initial two-qubit state. We then study the impact of a suitable class of feed-back operations on the considered dynamics.

Discrete frequency-bin entanglement is an essential resource for applications in quantum information processing. In this Letter, we propose and demonstrate a scheme to generate discrete frequency-bin entanglement with a single piece of periodically poled lithium niobate waveguide in a modified Sagnac interferometer. Correlated two-photon states in both directions of the Sagnac interferometer are generated through cascaded second-order optical nonlinear processes. A relative phase difference between the two states is introduced by changing the polarization state of pump light, thus manipulating the two-photon state at the output of the Sagnac interferometer. The generated two-photon state is sent into a fiber polarization splitter, then a pure discrete frequency-bin entangled two-photon state is obtained by setting the pump light. The frequency entanglement property is measured by a spatial quantum beating with a visibility of $96.0 \pm 6.1\%$. The density matrix is further obtained with a fidelity of $98.0 \pm 3.0\%$ to the ideal state. Our demonstration provides a promising method for the generation of pure discrete frequency-bin entanglement at telecom band, which is desired in quantum photonics., Comment: 4 pages. 3 figures

We investigate the dynamics of the driven open double two-level system by deriving a driven Markovian master equation based on the Lewis-Riesenfeld invariant theory. The transitions induced by coupling to the heat reservoir occur between the instantaneous eigenstates of the Lewis-Riesenfeld invariant. Therefore, different driving protocols associated with corresponding Lewis-Riesenfeld invariants result in different open system dynamics and symmetries. In particular, we show that since the instantaneous steady state of the driven double two-level system is one of eigenstates of the Lewis-Riesenfeld invariant at ultralow reservoir temperature, the inverse engineering method based on the Lewis-Riesenfeld invariants has a good performance in rapidly preparing the quantum state of open quantum systems. This work presents a theoretical study of a protocol for dynamical generation and storage of the durable, highly entangled Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger (GHZ) state in a system composed of bosonic atoms loaded into a one-dimensional optical lattice potential. A method of indicating entanglement in the system is also presented. The system ground-state can be either in the superfluid phase or in the Mott insulator phase. The wave functions of atoms in the superfluid phase are delocalised over the whole lattice and overlap. In the Mott phase, the wave functions are localised around lattice sites. The GHZ state is being generated in the superfluid phase and stored in the Mott insulator phase. It is achieved by a linear change of the potential depth in an optical lattice filled with atoms of two species. The numerical method used to describe the system is based on the exact diagonalisation of the Bose-Hubbard Hamiltonian. A quantum correlator indicating the level of multi-mode entanglement is introduced. Finally, it is shown that the value of the correlator indicates generation of the GHZ state. The appearance of the GHZ state is confirmed by the numerical representation of the state.

Studies of random unitary circuits have shown that the calculation of Renyi entropies of entanglement can be mapped to classical statistical mechanics problems in spacetime. In this paper, we develop an analogous spacetime picture of entanglement generation for random free or weakly interacting fermion systems without conservation laws. We first study a free-fermion model, namely a 1D chain of Majorana modes with nearest neighbour hoppings, random in both space and time. We analyze the Nth Renyi entropy of entanglement using a replica formalism, and we show that the effective model is equivalent to an SO(2N) Heisenberg spin chain evolving in imaginary time. By applying a saddle-point approximation to the coherent states path integral for the N = 2 case, we arrive at a semiclassical picture for the dynamics of the entanglement purity, in terms of two classical fields in spacetime. The classical solutions involve a smooth domain wall that interpolates between two values, with this domain wall relaxing diffusively in the time direction. We then study how adding weak interactions to the free-fermion model modifies this spacetime picture, reflecting a crossover from diffusive to ballistic spreading of information., Comment: 25 pages, 12 figures

Inspired by a recent Letter [S. R. Beane et al., Phys. Rev. Lett. 122, 102001(2019)], the entanglement generated in the elastic $S$-wave scattering of $p+{}^{3}\text{He}$ and $n+{}^3\text{H}$ is studied, where the proton, neutron, ${}^{3}$He, and ${}^3$H are all regarded as qubits. To deal with the Coulomb interaction between the proton and ${}^{3}$He, we derive the entanglement power, a physical quantity that measures the average entanglement generated by a scattering process, for charged qubits within the screening method. The entanglement power in the aforementioned two few-nucleon scatterings is found to be generally much smaller than that in the $S$-wave $n+p$ scattering at low energies, with the corresponding cluster effective field theories possessing an enhanced approximate $\text{SU}(2)_1\otimes\text{SU}(2)_{2}$ symmetry at leading order. Quantum network applications like distributed quantum computing and quantum secret sharing present a promising future network equipped with quantum resources. Entanglement generation and distribution over long distances is critical and unavoidable to utilize quantum technology in a fully-connected network. The distribution of bipartite entanglement over long distances has seen some progresses, while the distribution of multipartite entanglement over long distances remains unsolved. Here we report a two-dimensional quantum repeater protocol for the generation of multipartite entanglement over long distances with all-photonic framework to fill this gap. The yield of the proposed protocol shows long transmission distance under various numbers of network users. With the improved efficiency and flexibility of extending the number of users, we anticipate that our protocol can work as a significant building block for quantum networks in the future.

Entanglement is a key resource for quantum information technologies ranging from quantum sensing to quantum computing. Conventionally, the entanglement between two coupled qubits is established at the time scale of the inverse of the coupling strength. In this work, we study two weakly coupled non-Hermitian qubits and observe entanglement generation at a significantly shorter time scale by proximity to a higher-order exceptional point. We establish a non-Hermitian perturbation theory based on constructing a biorthogonal complete basis and further identify the optimal condition to obtain the maximally entangled state. We study maximal coin-position entanglement generation via a discrete-time quantum walk, in which the coin operation is randomly selected from one of two coin operators set at each step. We solve maximal entanglement generation as an optimization problem with quantum process fidelity as the cost function. Then we determine the maximal entanglement that can be rigorously generated for any step beyond the second regardless of initial condition with appropriate coin sequences. The simplest coin sequence comprising Hadamard and identity operations is equivalent to the generalized elephant quantum walk, which exhibits an increasingly faster spreading in terms of probability distribution. Experimentally, we demonstrate a ten-step quantum walk driven by such coin sequences with linear optics, and thereby show the desired high-dimensional bipartite entanglement as well as the transport behavior of faster spreading., Comment: 13 pages, 6 figures. Multi-photon entanglement plays a central role in optical quantum technologies. One way to entangle two photons is to prepare them in orthogonal internal states, for example, in two polarisations, and then send them through a balanced beam splitter. Post-selecting on the cases where there is one photon in each output port results in a maximally entangled state. This idea can be extended to schemes for the post-selected generation of larger entangled states. Typically, switching between different types of entangled states require different arrangements of beam splitters and so a new experimental setup. Here, we demonstrate a simple and versatile scheme to generate different types of genuine tripartite entangled states with only one experimental setup. We send three photons through a three-port splitter and vary their internal states before post-selecting on certain output distributions. This results in the generation of tripartite W, G and GHZ states. We obtain fidelities of up to $(87.3 \pm 1.1)\%$ with regard to the respective ideal states, confirming a successful generation of genuine tripartite entanglement.

We present protocols to generate quantum entanglement on nonlocal magnons in hybrid systems composed of yttrium iron garnet (YIG) spheres, microwave cavities and a superconducting (SC) qubit. In the schemes, the YIGs are coupled to respective microwave cavities in resonant way, and the SC qubit is placed at the center of the cavities, which interacts with the cavities simultaneously. By exchanging the virtual photon, the cavities can indirectly interact in the far-detuning regime.
