Abstract

Background: A network meta-analysis was performed to evaluate the risk of congenital malformations and other prenatal outcomes in fetuses after exposure to antipsychotic medications and mood stabilizers during pregnancy. Methods: We searched the PubMed, EMBASE, and Cochrane CENTRAL databases up to 15 December 2023, to identify experimental and observational studies comparing antipsychotic and mood stabilizer treatments with control treatments (no exposure). The primary outcome of the study was the incidence of congenital malformations and the secondary outcomes were preterm birth and spontaneous abortion. Additionally, two authors independently assessed the risk of bias in each domain of the included studies using the ROBINS-I tool and evaluated the quality of evidence using the CINeMA rating tool. Results: The literature search identified 18,334 potential records, and 22 studies involving 3,042,997 pregnant women were ultimately included. Compared with the unexposed group, quetiapine [odds ratio (OR), 1.19; 95% credible interval (CrI), 1.01–1.39], aripiprazole (OR, 1.30; 95% CrI 1.10–1.65), olanzapine (OR, 1.33; 95% CrI 1.11–1.64), risperidone (OR, 1.43; 95% CrI 1.18–1.77), and lithium (OR, 1.61; 95% CrI 1.07–2.30) were associated with a slightly increased risk of congenital malformations. In contrast, lamotrigine (OR, 1.21; 95% CrI 0.86–1.64), ziprasidone (OR, 1.14; 95% CrI 0.73–1.72), and haloperidol (OR, 1.26; 95% CrI 0.90–1.75) did not show significant differences compared with the unexposed group, with narrower credible intervals. Conclusions: The evidence from this analysis suggests that, overall, quetiapine has the lowest teratogenic risk when used during pregnancy, making it the safer option for pregnant women. Lamotrigine and haloperidol follow closely behind. At the same time, the use of lurasidone and ziprasidone should be approached with caution, and further clinical studies are necessary to better assess their safety. Abstract

Generative AI, particularly Language Models (LMs), has the potential to transform real-world domains with societal impact, particularly where access to experts is limited. For example, in education, training novice educators with expert guidance is important for effectiveness but expensive, creating significant barriers to improving education quality at scale. This challenge disproportionately hurts students from under-served communities, who stand to gain the most from high-quality education and are most likely to be taught by inexperienced educators. We introduce Tutor CoPilot, a novel Human-AI approach that leverages a model of expert thinking to provide expert-like guidance to tutors as they tutor. This study presents the first randomized controlled trial of a Human-AI system in live tutoring, involving 900 tutors and 1,800 K-12 students from historically under-served communities. Following a preregistered analysis plan, we find that students working on mathematics with tutors randomly assigned to have access to Tutor CoPilot are 4 percentage points (p.p.) more likely to master topics (p<0.01). Notably, students of lower-rated tutors experienced the greatest benefit, improving mastery by 9 p.p. relative to the control group. We find that Tutor CoPilot costs only $20 per-tutor annually, based on the tutors' usage during the study. We analyze 550,000+ messages using classifiers to identify pedagogical strategies, and find that tutors with access to Tutor CoPilot are more likely to use strategies that foster student understanding (e.g., asking guiding questions) and less likely to give away the answer to the student, aligning with high-quality teaching practices. Tutor interviews qualitatively highlight how Tutor CoPilot's guidance helps them to respond to student needs, though tutors flag common issues in Tutor CoPilot, such as generating suggestions that are not grade-level appropriate. Altogether, our study of Tutor CoPilot demonstrates how Human-AI systems can scale expertise in real-world domains, bridge gaps in skills and create a future where high-quality education is accessible to all students. Abstract

Entoloma subgenus Claudopus is widely distributed, yet the taxonomy and systematics of its species are still poorly documented. In the present study, more than forty collections of Claudopus were gathered in China and subsequently analysed, based on morphological and molecular data. The results revealed first a high level of species diversity of Claudopus in China and second, there is a wide ecological range regarding the substrates and the habitats ranging from temperate, tropical to subalpine locations. Based on morphological and molecular evidence, five novel species from China are proposed, viz. E. conchatum, E. flabellatum, E. gregarium, E. pleurotoides and E. reductum. Molecular phylogeny of Entoloma s.l. was also reconstructed, based on 187 representatives of Entoloma s.l. by employing the combined ITS, LSU, mtSSU and RPB2 sequences. Ten monophyletic clades (Claudopus, Leptonia, Nolanea, Cuboid-spored Inocephalus, “Alboleptonia”, Cyanula, Pouzarella, Rhodopolia, Prunuloides and Rusticoides) were recovered, while 13 taxa could not be placed in any defined clades. The results confirmed that Claudopus in a traditional morphological sense is not monophyletic and the Rusticoides-group, previously considered within Claudopus, formed a separate clade; but section Claudopus and relatives of E. undatum belong to a distinctive monophyletic group. Despite some monophyletic groups in Entoloma s.l. being distinctive in both morphology and molecular phylogeny, they were still treated as subgenera of Entoloma s.l. temporarily, because accepting them as genera will make Entoloma s.l. paraphyletic.

Abstract

Abstract Background Approval of Locametz and Illuccix kits for the manufacture of [68Ga]Ga-PSMA-11 (gallium Ga68 gozetotide), a PET imaging agent for prostate cancer, as well as the corresponding therapeutic ([177Lu]Lu-PSMA-617 Pluvicto), has led to a rapid increase in demand for [68Ga]Ga-PSMA-11 PET imaging. Radiopharmaceutical manufacturers, using 68Ge/68Ga generators, may decide to adopt Locametz and/or Illuccix kits, which requires a comparison to select the most suitable kit for day-to-day use. The objective of this article is to compare both kits and provide guidance for selecting one for routine use, as well as evaluate labeling consistency of both kits during routine production. Additionally, we report our experience during 1.5 years of daily [68Ga]Ga-PSMA-11 production at our facility using both kits. Results Locametz (n = 181) and Illuccix (n = 256) kits were prepared using non-silicone coated and silicone-coated needles with 68Ga activities ranging from 0.53 to 3.16 GBq, with a failure rate of 1 in 128 runs for both kits. With Locametz, a 3.7 GBq generator and 10-min incubation at room temperature gave doses that passed quality control (QC) testing. Use of non-silicone coated needles in the process led to solution discoloration, and QC failure. Additionally, lack of vial inversion led to inconsistent labeling, which improved with subsequent vial agitation. For Illuccix, addition of the acetate buffer to the precursor vial prior to adding the [68Ga]GaCl3 simplifies the workflow. The maximum tolerated activity was 1.85 GBq. Lack of vial inversion led to failures, which were rectified by agitating the vial to properly incorporate the acetate solution with the generator eluate. Conclusions Both kits benefited from using a syringe pump to elute the 68Ge/68Ga generator, vial agitation, and longer length/smaller bore silicone coated needles. Both kits have similar workflows, comparable QC outcomes, and result in equivalent clinical images. Thus, the decision between kits will ultimately be determined by production preferences. Since radiopharmacies have an established “kit-based” workflow, Locametz kits with higher allowed activities and longer shelf-life may offer benefits. Conversely, more traditional PET manufacturing facilities might benefit from using Illuccix kits due to compatibility with cyclotron-produced [68Ga]GaCl3 allowing for kit batching. Ultimately, the commercial availability of 2 approved kits for production of [68Ga]Ga-PSMA-11 PET has facilitated ready access to this important new imaging agent.

Abstract We present a study of Ξ c 0 → Ξ 0 π 0 $$ {\Xi}_c^0\to {\Xi}^0{\pi}^0 $$ , Ξ c 0 → Ξ 0 η $$ {\Xi}_c^0\to {\Xi}^0\eta $$ , and Ξ c 0 → Ξ 0 η ′ $$ {\Xi}_c^0\to {\Xi}^0{\eta}^{\prime } $$ decays using the Belle and Belle II data samples, which have integrated luminosities of 980 fb −1 and 426 fb −1, respectively. We measure the following relative branching fractions B Ξ c 0 → Ξ 0 π 0 / B Ξ c 0 → Ξ − π + = 0.48 ± 0.02 stat ± 0.03 syst , B Ξ c 0 → Ξ 0 η / B Ξ c 0 → Ξ − π + = 0.11 ± 0.01 stat ± 0.01 syst , B Ξ c 0 → Ξ 0 η ′ / B Ξ c 0 → Ξ − π + = 0.08 ± 0.02 stat ± 0.01 syst $$ {\displaystyle \begin{array}{c}\mathcal{B}\left({\Xi}_c^0\to {\Xi}^0{\pi}^0\right)/\mathcal{B}\left({\Xi}_c^0\to {\Xi}^{-}{\pi}^{+}\right)=0.48\pm 0.02\left(\textrm{stat}\right)\pm 0.03\left(\textrm{syst}\right),\\ {}\mathcal{B}\left({\Xi}_c^0\to {\Xi}^0\eta \right)/\mathcal{B}\left({\Xi}_c^0\to {\Xi}^{-}{\pi}^{+}\right)=0.11\pm 0.01\left(\textrm{stat}\right)\pm 0.01\left(\textrm{syst}\right),\\ {}\mathcal{B}\left({\Xi}_c^0\to {\Xi}^0{\eta}^{\prime}\right)/\mathcal{B}\left({\Xi}_c^0\to {\Xi}^{-}{\pi}^{+}\right)=0.08\pm 0.02\left(\textrm{stat}\right)\pm 0.01\left(\textrm{syst}\right)\end{array}} $$ for the first time, where the uncertainties are statistical (stat) and systematic (syst). The asymmetry parameter for Ξ c 0 → Ξ 0 π 0 $$ {\Xi}_c^0\to {\Xi}^0{\pi}^0 $$ is measured to be α Ξ c 0 → Ξ 0 π 0 = − 0.90 ± 0.15 stat ± 0.23 syst $$ \alpha \left({\Xi}_c^0\to {\Xi}^0{\pi}^0\right)=-0.90\pm 0.15\left(\textrm{stat}\right)\pm 0.23\left(\textrm{syst}\right) $$ .

Abstract

Abstract We report measurements of the e + e − → B B ¯ $$ B\overline{B} $$ , B B ¯ ∗ $$ B{\overline{B}}^{\ast } $$ , and B ∗ B ¯ ∗ $$ {B}^{\ast }{\overline{B}}^{\ast } $$ cross sections at four energies, 10653, 10701, 10746 and 10805 MeV, using data collected by the Belle II experiment. We reconstruct one B meson in a large number of hadronic final states and use its momentum to identify the production process. In the first 2 – 5 MeV above B ∗ B ¯ ∗ $$ {B}^{\ast }{\overline{B}}^{\ast } $$ threshold, the e + e − → B ∗ B ¯ ∗ $$ {B}^{\ast }{\overline{B}}^{\ast } $$ cross section increases rapidly. This may indicate the presence of a pole close to the threshold.

Abstract Background Previous studies have suggested a potential link between the crown-to-root ratio (CRR) and root morphology in patients with mild chronic periodontitis, which may be associated with tooth mobility. However, these findings have not been thoroughly investigated. Our previous study found that 76% of patients with aggressive periodontitis, particularly those with premolar involvement, exhibited abnormal root morphology, severe alveolar bone loss, and increased tooth mobility, leading to poor clinical outcomes. This study aims to investigate the specific correlations among alveolar bone resorption, root morphology, CRR, and periodontal clinical indicators with premolar mobility in stage III/IV grade C periodontitis patients aged ≤ 35 years. Materials and methods A total of 1,064 premolars from 151 stage III/IV grade C periodontitis patients aged ≤ 35 years were included in the study. Clinical periodontal parameters and radiographic measurements were recorded. Logistic regression analysis was used to explore the relationships between these indicators and tooth mobility. Results Significant variations in premolar root lengths were observed, ranging from 6.80 mm to 20.96 mm. Teeth with shorter roots (mean length: 10.22 mm) exhibited grade I mobility with only 28% alveolar bone resorption, whereas those with medium-length (mean length: 12.67 mm) and longer roots (mean length: 14.91 mm) exhibited mobility at 34% and 37% bone resorption, respectively. Abstract

Abstract We report a determination of the CKM angle ϕ 3, also known as γ, from a combination of measurements using samples of up to 711 fb −1 from the Belle experiment and up to 362 fb −1 from the Belle II experiment. We combine results from analyses of B + → DK +, B + → Dπ +, and B + → D * K + decays, where D is an admixture of D 0 and D ¯ 0 $$ {\overline{D}}^0 $$ mesons, in a likelihood fit to obtain ϕ 3 = (75.2 ± 7.6) ° . We also briefly discuss the interpretation of this result.

Abstract

Abstract We present the result of a search for the charged-lepton-flavor violating decay τ − → μ − μ + μ − using a 424 fb −1 sample of data recorded by the Belle II experiment at the SuperKEKB e + e − collider. The selection of e + e − → τ + τ − events is based on an inclusive reconstruction of the non-signal tau decay, and on a boosted decision tree to suppress background. We observe one signal candidate, which is compatible with the expectation from background processes. We set a 90% confidence level upper limit of 1.9 × 10 −8 on the branching fraction of the τ − → μ − μ + μ − decay, which is the most stringent bound to date.

Abstract

Abstract Background Injurious falls represent a significant public health burden. Research and policies have primarily focused on falls occurring indoors despite evidence that outdoor falls account for 47–58% of all falls requiring some medical attention. This study described the clinical trauma severity of indoor versus outdoor injurious falls requiring Emergency Medical Services (EMS) response. Methods Using the 2019 National Emergency Medical Services Information System (NEMSIS) dataset, we identified the location of patients injured from falls that required EMS response. We classified injury severity using (1) the Revised Trauma Score for Triage (T-RTS): ≤ 11 indicated the need for transport to a Trauma Center; (2) Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS): ≤ 8 and 9–12 indicated severe and moderate neurologic injury; and (3) patient clinical acuity by EMS: Dead, Critical, Emergent, Low. Results Of 1,854,909 encounters for patients with injurious falls, the vast majority occurred indoors (n = 1,596,860) compared to outdoors (n = 152,994). For patients who fell indoors vs outdoors on streets or sidewalks, the proportions were comparable for moderate or severe GCS scores (3.0% vs 3.9%), T-RTS scores indicating need for transport to a Trauma Center (5.2% vs 5.9%) and EMS acuity rated as Emergent or Critical (27.7% vs 27.1%). Injurious falls were more severe among male patients compared to females and males injured by falling on streets or sidewalks had higher percentages for moderate or severe GCS scores (5.2% vs 1.9%) and T-RTS scores indicating the need for transport to a Trauma Center (7.3% vs 3.9%) compared to falling indoors. Young and middle-aged patients who fell on streets or sidewalks had higher proportions for a T-RTS score indicating the need for Trauma Center care compared to those in this subgroup who fell indoors. Yet older patients injured by falling indoors were more likely to have a T-RTS score indicating the need for transport to a Trauma Center than older patients who fell on streets or sidewalks. Conclusions There was a similar proportion of patients with severe injurious falls that occurred indoors and outdoors on streets or sidewalks. These findings suggest the need to determine outdoor environmental risks for outdoor falls to support location-specific interventions.

Abstract

Abstract We present a measurement of the ratio R μ = B τ − → μ − ν ¯ μ ν τ / B τ − → e − ν ¯ e ν τ $$ {R}_{\mu }=\mathcal{B}\left({\tau}^{-}\to {\mu}^{-}{\overline{\nu}}_{\mu }{\nu}_{\tau}\right)/\mathcal{B}\left({\tau}^{-}\to {e}^{-}{\overline{\nu}}_e{\nu}_{\tau}\right) $$ of branching fractions B $$ \mathcal{B} $$ of the τ lepton decaying to muons or electrons using data collected with the Belle II detector at the SuperKEKB e + e − collider. The sample has an integrated luminosity of 362 ± 2 fb −1 at a centre-of-mass energy of 10.58 GeV. Using an optimised event selection, a binned maximum likelihood fit is performed using the momentum spectra of the electron and muon candidates. The result, R μ = 0.9675 ± 0.0007 ± 0.0036, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic, is the most precise to date. It provides a stringent test of the light-lepton universality, translating to a ratio of the couplings of the muon and electron to the W boson in τ decays of 0.9974 ± 0.0019, in agreement with the standard model expectation of unity.

Abstract

Abstract We present measurements of the branching fractions of eight B ¯ 0 $$ {\overline{B}}^0 $$ → D (*)+ K − K S ∗ 0 $$ {K}_{(S)}^{\left(\ast \right)0} $$ , B − → D (*)0 K − K S ∗ 0 $$ {K}_{(S)}^{\left(\ast \right)0} $$ decay channels. The results are based on data from SuperKEKB electron-positron collisions at the Υ(4S) resonance collected with the Belle II detector, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 362 fb −1. The event yields are extracted from fits to the distributions of the difference between expected and observed B meson energy, and are efficiency-corrected as a function of m(K − K S ∗ 0 $$ {K}_{(S)}^{\left(\ast \right)0} $$ ) and m(D (*) K S ∗ 0 $$ {K}_{(S)}^{\left(\ast \right)0} $$ ) in order to avoid dependence on the decay model. These results include the first observation of B ¯ 0 $$ {\overline{B}}^0 $$ → D + K − K S 0 $$ {K}_S^0 $$ , B − → D* 0 K − K S 0 $$ {K}_S^0 $$ , and B ¯ 0 $$ {\overline{B}}^0 $$ → D* + K − K S 0 $$ {K}_S^0 $$ decays and a significant improvement in the precision of the other channels compared to previous measurements. The helicity-angle distributions and the invariant mass distributions of the K − K S ∗ 0 $$ {K}_{(S)}^{\left(\ast \right)0} $$ systems are compatible with quasi-two-body decays via a resonant transition with spin-parity J P = 1− for the K − K S 0 $$ {K}_S^0 $$ systems and J P = 1+ for the K − K* 0 systems. We also present measurements of the branching fractions of four B ¯ 0 $$ {\overline{B}}^0 $$ → D (*)+ D s − $$ {D}_s^{-} $$ , B − → D (*)0 D s − $$ {D}_s^{-} $$ decay channels with a precision compatible to the current world averages.

Abstract

Cellular forces regulate an untold spectrum of living processes, such as cell migration, gene expression, and ion conduction. However, a quantitative description of mechanical control remains elusive due to the lack of general, live-cell tools to measure discrete forces between biomolecules. Here we introduce a computational pipeline for force measurement that leverages well-defined, tunable release of a mechanically activated small molecule fluorophore. These sensors are characterized using a multiscale approach combining equilibrium and steered QM/MM molecular dynamics models to capture the chemical, mechanical, and conformational transitions underlying force activation thresholds on a nano Newton scale. We find that chemical modification of the mechanophore and variation of its biomolecular tethers can tune the rate-determining step for fluorophore release and adjust the mechanochemical activation barrier. The models offer a new molecular framework for calibrated, programmable biomolecular force reporting within the live-cell regime, opening new opportunities to study mechanical phenomena in biological systems.

Abstract

BackgroundProton pump inhibitors (PPIs) are effective treatments for acid-related disorders but may pose tumor risks with long-term use. Current research on PPI-associated tumor adverse events (TAEs) is limited and inconclusive. This study aims to comprehensively analyze the relationship between PPIs and TAEs.MethodsWe analyzed PPI adverse reaction reports from the FDA Adverse Event Reporting System (FAERS) database spanning from 2004 to 2024, focusing on five commonly used PPIs: esomeprazole, pantoprazole, lansoprazole, omeprazole, and rabeprazole. We conducted a disproportionality analysis utilizing the Reporting Odds Ratio (ROR) to identify potential TAEs associated with PPIs. We conducted univariate logistic regression analysis to explore the influencing factors.ResultsA total of 3,133 TAEs were identified, representing 2.36% of all PPI-related adverse events (AEs). The most common TAEs were gastric cancer (19.05%) and malignant neoplasm (7.23%). Disproportionality analysis revealed ten significant TAEs associated with PPIs, including gastric adenocarcinoma and renal cell carcinoma. The median age of those reporting TAEs was 59 (interquartile range [IQR]: 51–70), and 29.70% of them resulted in a fatality. TAEs associated with PPIs were less likely to occur in elderly patients (65–75: OR = 0.91 [0.87–0.95], p < 0.001; >75: OR = 0.93 [0.89–0.98], p < 0.01).ConclusionTAEs constitute a small but significant fraction of PPI-related AEs. This study highlights the need for cautious long-term use of PPIs and further research to understand the underlying mechanisms and risk factors. Clinicians should be aware of the potential tumor risks associated with prolonged PPI treatment.

Abstract Background Delayed neurocognitive recovery (DNR) is a common complication in patients undergoing laparoscopic surgery, and there are currently no effective therapies. It is vital to provide a reliable basis for clinical prediction. This study tried to analyse the risk factors for DNR in patients undergoing laparoscopic colorectal surgery and to establish a risk prediction model. Methods A retrospective analysis of the clinical data and DNR status of patients undergoing laparoscopic colorectal surgery at Xiangya Hospital of Central South University from March 2018 to July 2020 was conducted. Logistic regression was performed to analyse the related risk factors for DNR post-operatively, and the predictive model of DNR post-operatively was constructed and validated internally. Patients who underwent laparoscopic colorectal surgery between January and July 2021 were also selected for external validation of the predictive model, to ultimately investigate the risk factors for DNR in patients undergoing laparoscopic colorectal surgery. Results The incidence of DNR in patients undergoing laparoscopic colorectal surgery was 15.2% (31/204). Abstract

Abstract We present an analysis of the process e + e − → π + π − Υ(nS) (where n = 1, 2, or 3) reconstructed in 19.6 fb −1 of Belle II data during a special run of the SuperKEKB collider at four energy points near the peak of the Υ(10753) resonance. By analyzing the mass distribution of the π + π − Υ(nS) system and the Born cross sections of the e + e − → π + π − Υ(nS) process, we report the first observation of Υ(10753) decays to the π + π − Υ(1S) and π + π − Υ(2S) final states, and find no evidence for decays to π + π − Υ(3S). Possible intermediate states in the π + π − Υ(1S, 2S) transitions are also investigated, and no evidence for decays proceeding via the π ∓ Z b ± $$ {\pi}^{\mp }{Z}_b^{\pm } $$ or f 0(980)Υ(nS) intermediate states is found. We measure Born cross sections for the e + e − → π + π − Υ(nS) process that, combined with results from Belle, obtain the mass and width of Υ(10753) to be (10756.6 ± 2.7 ± 0.9) MeV/c 2 and (29.0 ± 8.8 ± 1.2) MeV, respectively. The relative ratios of the Born cross sections at the Υ(10753) resonance peak are also reported for the first time.

Abstract

Abstract Sleep disorders increase the risk and mortality of heart disease, but the brain-heart interaction has not yet been fully elucidated. Cuproptosis is a copper-dependent type of cell death activated by the excessive accumulation of intracellular copper. Here, we showed that 16 weeks of sleep fragmentation (SF) resulted in elevated copper levels in the male mouse heart and exacerbated myocardial ischemia–reperfusion injury with increased myocardial cuproptosis and apoptosis. Mechanistically, we found that SF promotes sympathetic overactivity, increases the germination of myocardial sympathetic nerve terminals, and increases the level of norepinephrine in cardiac tissue, thereby inhibits VPS35 expression and leads to impaired ATP7A related copper transport and copper overload in cardiomyocytes. Copper overload further leads to exacerbated cuproptosis and apoptosis, and these effects can be rescued by excision of the sympathetic nerve or administration of copper chelating agent. Our study elucidates one of the molecular mechanisms by which sleep disorders aggravate myocardial injury and suggests possible targets for intervention.

Abstract

Abstract We report results from a study of B ± → DK ± decays followed by D decaying to the CP-even final state K + K − and CP-odd final state K S 0 π 0 $$ {K}_S^0{\pi}^0 $$ , where D is an admixture of D 0 and D ¯ 0 $$ {\overline{D}}^0 $$ states. These decays are sensitive to the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa unitarity-triangle angle ϕ 3. The results are based on a combined analysis of the final data set of 772 × 106 B B ¯ $$ B\overline{B} $$ pairs collected by the Belle experiment and a data set of 198 × 106 B B ¯ $$ B\overline{B} $$ pairs collected by the Belle II experiment, both in electron-positron collisions at the Υ(4S) resonance. We measure the CP asymmetries to be A $$ \mathcal{A} $$ CP+ = (+12.5 ± 5.8 ± 1.4)% and A $$ \mathcal{A} $$ CP− = (−16.7 ± 5.7 ± 0.6)%, and the ratios of branching fractions to be R $$ \mathcal{R} $$ CP+ = 1.164 ± 0.081 ± 0.036 and R $$ \mathcal{R} $$ CP− = 1.151 ± 0.074 ± 0.019. The first contribution to the uncertainties is statistical, and the second is systematic. The asymmetries A $$ \mathcal{A} $$ CP+ and A $$ \mathcal{A} $$ CP− have similar magnitudes and opposite signs; their difference corresponds to 3.5 standard deviations. From these values we calculate 68.3% confidence intervals of (8.5 ° < ϕ 3 < 16.5 ° ) or (84.5 ° < ϕ 3 < 95.5 ° ) or (163.3 ° < ϕ 3 < 171.5 ° ) and 0.321 < r B < 0.465.

Abstract

In this work we present a study of the thermodynamical properties of the spin-1=2 two-dimensional Ising model with ferromagnetic interactions at zero external magnetic eld. We used Monte Carlo simulations, through Metropolis andWang-Landau algorithms. The critical exponents and the corresponding critical temperatures are obtained by both methods using the nite-size scaling hypothesis. A comparison between the exact values and the results obtained from both algorithms was made, not only quantitatively but also in terms of computational times. Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior - CAPES Apresentamos, nesse trabalho, um estudo computacional das propriedades termodinâmicas do modelo de Ising de spin S = 1=2, com interações ferromagnéticas, em uma rede quadrada a campo magnético externo nulo. Empregamos simulações de Monte Carlo, utilizando os algoritmos de Metropolis e Wang-Landau. Os expoentes críticos e as correspondentes temperaturas de transição foram obtidos por ambos métodos utilizando a teoria de escalonamento de tamanho nito. Foi feita uma comparação dos valores exatos com os resultados obtidos pelos dois algoritmos, tanto do ponto de vista quantitativo, como de tempo computacional.

Abstract

Summary: Background: Inflammation and immune dysregulation are hypothesized contributors to endometrial carcinogenesis; however, the precise underlying mechanisms remain unclear. Methods: We measured pre-diagnostically 152 plasma protein biomarkers in 624 endometrial cancer case-control pairs nested within the European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition (EPIC) cohort. Odds ratios (ORs) were estimated using conditional logistic regression, accounting for confounding and multiple comparisons. Proteins considered as associated with endometrial cancer risk were further tested in a two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis using summary data from the UK Biobank (n = 52,363) and the Endometrial Cancer Association Consortium (12,270 cases and 46,126 controls). Findings: In the EPIC nested case-control study, IL-6 [OR per NPX (doubling of concentration) = 1.28 (95% confidence interval (CI) 1.03–1.57)], HGF [1.48 (1.06–2.07)], PIK3AP1 [1.22 (1.00–1.50)] and CLEC4G [1.52 (1.00–2.32)] were positively associated; HSD11B1 [0.67 (0.49–0.91)], SCF [0.68 (0.49–0.94)], and CCL25 [0.80 (0.65–0.99)] were inversely associated with endometrial cancer risk; all estimates had multiple comparisons adjusted P-value > 0.05. In complementary MR analysis, IL-6 [OR per inverse-rank normalized NPX = 1.19 (95% CI 1.04–1.36)] and HSD11B1 [0.91 (0.84–0.99)] were associated with endometrial cancer risk. Interpretation: Altered IL-6 signalling and reduced glucocorticoid activity via HSD11B1 might play important roles in endometrial carcinogenesis. Abstract

In terms of civilian casualties directly and indirectly caused by the war, the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom Movement was the largest war in world history in the second half of the nineteenth century and had a strong East Asian Christian background. This article adopts the ‘historical contextualism’ approach of the Cambridge School in the history of political thought, and through a comparison of the relevant views of Karl Marx, Max Weber and Kang Youwei, it reveals that this intentional omission comes from a specific combination of modernisation routes and modernisation political construction choices. In contemporary China, the study of Christian theory and the practice of church organisation still need to answer the question of the general public as to whether Christianity can bring about a better life, both materially and spiritually. Contribution: This article pointed out that three contemporaries, Marx, Weber and Kang, all evaluated the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom Movement as a revolution of Christianity in China from the standpoint of ‘China’s need for modernisation’, but differed in their evaluation of the position and role of the religious reform factor in the process of modernisation in China. However, they differed in their assessment of the position and role of the Reformation factor in the process of modernisation in China. The article reveals that for Protestant Christianity in contemporary China, it is still necessary to carefully handle its relationship with the government and to satisfy the people’s real needs for a modernised material and spiritual life. Meanwhile, it sheds light on the issue of ‘heterocultural adaptability’ brought about by the expansion and spread of Protestant Christianity in East Asia, as well as on the question of whether Protestantism and Confucianism in the process of modern conversion can achieve peaceful coexistence.

Abstract

BackgroundNivolumab is an effective treatment option for advanced gastric cancer (GC). This study aimed to conduct a systematic review of existing literature to investigate the relationship between immune-related adverse events (irAEs) and the prognosis of patients with GC treated with nivolumab.MethodsWe comprehensively searched four online literature databases: the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, until 27 March 2024. The outcome measures of interest included: overall survival (OS), progression-free survival (PFS), hazard ratio (HR), median survival ratio (MSR), objective response rate (ORR), and disease control rate (DCR).ResultsA total of six studies, including 393 patients, met the eligibility criteria. The OS (pooled hazard ratio [HR] = 0.4, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.3–0.6, p < 0.05) and PFS (pooled HR = 0.5, 95% CI: 0.4–0.6, p < 0.05) of patients with irAEs were significantly superior to individuals without irAEs. The MSR for OS and PFS were 2.5 (95% CI: 1.5-4.1, p < 0.05) and 2.8 (95% CI: 1.9–4.1, p < 0.05), respectively. Regarding the ORR and DCR, we found that the development of irAEs was significantly associated with higher rates: patients with irAEs had an ORR of 24.7% compared to 6.4% in those without irAEs (risk ratio [RR] = 2.6, p < 0.05), and a DCR of 86.0% compared to 30.3% in those without irAEs (RR = 3.2, p < 0.05).ConclusionThere appears to be a significant correlation between the development of irAEs and the better survival benefits with nivolumab in patients with GC.Systematic review registrationhttps://www.crd.york.ac.uk/prospero/, identifier CRD42022341396.

Background/objective: Robotic pancreaticoduodenectomy in ampullary cancer has never been studied. This study aimed to clarify the feasibility and justification of robotic pancreaticoduodenectomy in ampullary cancer in terms of surgical risks, and oncologic and survival outcomes. Methods: A propensity score-matching comparison of robotic and open pancreaticoduodenectomy based on seven factors commonly used to predict the survival outcomes in ampullary cancer patients. Results: A total of 147 patients were enrolled, of which 101 and 46 underwent robotic and open pancreaticoduodenectomies, respectively. After propensity score-matching with a 2:1 ratio, 88 and 44 patients in the robotic and open pancreaticoduodenectomy groups were included. The operation time was of no significant difference after matching. Abstract

ObjectiveRituximab (RTX) has been widely used for primary nephrotic syndrome (PNS) in children of frequent relapse or hormonal dependence. The authors applied RTX for childhood PNS in Ningxia for the first time and examined its efficacy.MethodsFrom January 1, 2020 to December 31, 2022, 7 PNS children received 3-year RTX dosing with parental consents after poor outcomes of glucocorticoids alone or glucocorticoids plus other immunosuppressants. There were 4 boys and 3 girls with an age range of (4.4-13.0) year. Urinary routine, urinary protein quantification and infection status were regularly monitored for evaluating the treatment effect, safety and expenses.ResultsAll of them were hormonal sensitive with a frequent recurrence. Two to 5 doses of RTX per child were offered over a follow-up period of (9-35) month. Urinary protein stayed long-term negative. There was only 1 relapsing case. Five cases discontinued glucocorticoids and immunosuppressants. No severe infection occurred. The average monthly expense per child after RTX dosing was significantly lower than that before dosing.ConclusionRTX is a safe, economic and effective treatment for PNS children. Early application of RTX may taper glucocorticoids and/or immunosuppressants and minimize adverse reactions.

Abstract

Abstract Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) has emerged as one of the major causes of liver-related morbidity and mortality globally. It ranges from simple steatosis to non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) characterized by ballooning and hepatic inflammation. In the past few years, pyroptosis has been shown as a type of programmed cell death that triggers inflammation and plays a role in the development of NASH. However, the roles of pyroptosis-related genes (PRGs) in NASH remained unclear. In this study, we studied the expression level of pyroptosis-related genes (PRGs) in NASH and healthy controls, developed a diagnostic model of NASH based on PRGs and explored the pathological mechanisms associated with pyroptosis. We further compared immune status between NASH and healthy controls, analyzed immune status in different subtypes of NASH. We identified altogether twenty PRGs that were differentially expressed between NASH and normal liver tissues. Then, a novel diagnostic model consisting of seven PRGs including CASP3, ELANE, GZMA, CASP4, CASP9, IL6 and TP63 for NASH was constructed with an area under the ROC curve (AUC) of 0.978 (CI 0.965–0.99). Obvious variations in immune status between healthy controls and NASH cases were detected. Subsequently, the consensus clustering method based on differentially expressed PRGs was constructed to divide all NASH cases into two distinct pyroptosis subtypes with different immune and biological characteristics. Pyroptosis-related genes may play an important role in NASH and can provide new insights into the diagnosis and underlying mechanisms of NASH.
