The article describes a method for calculating interpolation coefficients of expansion using Chebyshev polynomials. The method is valid when the desired function is bounded and has a finite number of maxima and minima in a finite domain of interpolation. The essence of the method is that the interpolated desired function can be represented as an expansion in Chebyshev polynomials; then the expansion coefficients are determined using the collocation method by reducing the problem to solving a well-conditioned system of linear algebraic equations for the required coefficients. Using the well-known useful properties of Chebyshev polynomials can significantly simplify the solution of the problem of function interpolation. A technique using the Clenshaw algorithm for summing the series and determining the expansion coefficients of the interpolated function, based on the discrete orthogonality of Chebyshev polynomials of the 1st kind, is outlined.

For one-dimensional inhomogeneous (with respect to the spatial variable) linear parabolic equations, a combined approach is used, dividing the original problem into two subproblems. The first of them is an inhomogeneous one-dimensional Poisson problem with Dirichlet-Robin boundary conditions, the search for a solution of which is based on the Chebyshev collocation method. The method was developed based on previously published algorithms for solving ordinary differential equations, in which the solution is sought in the form of an expansion in Chebyshev polynomials of the 1st kind on Gauss-Lobatto grids, which allows the use of discrete orthogonality of polynomials. This approach turns out to be very economical and stable compared to traditional methods, which often lead to the solution of poorly defined systems of linear algebraic equations. In the described approach, the successful use of integration matrices allows complete elimination of the need to deal with ill-conditioned matrices. The second, homogeneous problem of thermal conductivity is solved by the method of separation of variables. In this case, finding the expansion coefficients of the desired solution in the complete set of solutions to the corresponding Sturm-Liouville problem is reduced to calculating integrals of known functions. A simple technique for constructing Chebyshev interpolants of integrands allows to calculate the integrals by summing interpolation coefficients.

An effective scheme based on the finite difference and Chebyshev collocation method is introduced to acquire approximate solutions of a mass transfer problem model for transdermal medication delivery. A priori error estimation is derived. The reliability of the proposed scheme is shown by comparing the drug concentration profiles with their counterparts acquired by other analytical and numerical methods.

In this paper, a collocation approach for the fractional Newell-Whitehead-Segel equation is described. The finite difference method is used to discretized the time-fractional derivative, and Chebyshev functions are used for interpolating the spatial derivatives. An a priori error estimate is derived. The stability of the suggested approach is presented. Several numerical examples are provided to show the viability and effectiveness of the suggested approach.

It is one of the most concerning problems in hydroacoustics to find a method that can calculate the acoustic propagation accurately and adapt to the variation of the seabed. Currently, the one-dimensional spectral method has been employed to address the simplified ocean acoustic propagation model successfully. However, due to the model's application limitations and approximation error, it poses challenges when attempting to solve real-world ocean acoustic fields. Hence, there is a crucial need to develop a direct solution method for the two-dimensional Helmholtz equation of ocean acoustic propagation, without relying on a simplified model. In previous work, we achieved successful solutions for the two-dimensional Helmholtz equation within a rectangular domain, utilizing a collocation-type spectral method. Taking into account the fluctuations in the actual seabed, we introduce a Chebyshev collocation spectral method to directly tackle the two-dimensional ocean acoustic propagation problem, which could solve the case of a seabed with linear variation, sound velocity variation and inhomogeneous medium situation. After comparative verification, the calculation result of the two-dimensional spectral method is more accurate than traditional mature models such as Kraken and COUPLE. The spectral collocation method for solving two-point boundary value problems for second order differential equations is implemented, based on representing the solution as an expansion in Chebyshev polynomials. The approach allows a stable calculation of both the spectral representation of the solution and its pointwise representation on any required grid in the definition domain of the equation and additional conditions of the multipoint problem. For the effective construction of SLAE, the solution of which gives the desired coefficients, the Chebyshev matrices of spectral integration are actively used. The proposed algorithms have a high accuracy for moderate-dimension systems of linear algebraic equations. The matrix of the system remains well-conditioned and, with an increase in the number of collocation points, allows finding solutions with ever-increasing accuracy.

This work presents a numerical approach for solving the time–space fractional‐order wave equation. The time‐fractional derivative is described in the conformal sense, whereas the space‐fractional derivative is given in the Caputo sense. The investigated technique is based on the third‐kind of shifted Chebyshev polynomials. The main problem is converted into a system of ordinary differential equations using conformal mapping, Caputo derivatives, and the properties of the third‐kind shifted Chebyshev polynomials. Then, the Chebyshev collocation method and the non‐standard finite difference method will be used to convert this system into a system of algebraic equations. Finally, this system can be solved numerically via Newton's iteration method. In the end, physics numerical examples and comparison results are provided to confirm the accuracy, applicability, and efficiency of the suggested approach. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this paper, we propose an efficient Chebyshev collocation scheme to solve diffusion problem including time fractional diffusion equation considering the fractional derivative in the Liouville-Caputo sense. By making use of shifted Chebyshev polynomial series and their orthogonality properties, the problem is reduced to the system of fractional ordinary differential equations which can be solved by residual power series method (RPSM) with the help of the given scheme and boundary conditions. The numerical examples shows that the method is reliable and effective to construct the numerical solution of fractional diffusion equation.

This work presents a highly accurate method for the numerical solution of the advection–diffusion equation of fractional order. In our proposed method, we apply the Laplace transform to handle the time-fractional derivative and utilize the Chebyshev spectral collocation method for spatial discretization. The primary motivation for using the Laplace transform is its ability to avoid the classical time-stepping scheme and overcome the adverse effects of time steps on numerical accuracy and stability. Our method comprises three primary steps: (i) reducing the time-dependent equation to a time-independent equation via the Laplace transform, (ii) employing the Chebyshev spectral collocation method to approximate the solution of the transformed equation, and (iii) numerically inverting the Laplace transform. We discuss the convergence and stability of the method and assess its accuracy and efficiency by solving various problems in two dimensions.
