This work investigates the evolution that the city project has had, through different graphic representations, throughout the 20th century. To introduce this question, we begin by explaining the first efforts to understand the changes that the industrial revolution has produced in the city. The sociologist Charles Booth, in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, pioneered this interest in understanding and representing the reality of his time. In these first years, based on objective data, the researchers were presenting proposals, some more utopian and others more realistic, to solve the problems of urbanism. The analyzes of the city of Patrick Geddes or the functionalist designs of Le Corbusier, would find acceptance and criticism from the 1950s onwards. Projects such as those of Constant Nieuwenhuys would question the modelof the city that was being developed and would give rise to another type of urbanism , what the situationists would call the unitary urbanism. The economic and social reality that the city has at the end of the 20th century is not the same as the one with which it began. This new reality makes it necessary for urban analyzes to evolve. The work done by Kevin Lynch in Boston or Robert Venturi in Las Vegas are examples of these new ways of understanding the representation and reality of the city. By presenting this brief evolution of the city through its graphic representations, an attempt is made to understand the antecedents of the current projects and the reason for them. Este trabajo investiga la evolución que ha tenido el proyecto dela ciudad, a través de diferentes representaciones gráficas, a lo largo del siglo XX. Para introducir esta cuestión se empiezan explicando los primeros esfuerzos de comprender los cambios que la revolución industrial ha producido en la ciudad. El sociólogo Charles Booth, a finales del siglo XIX y principios del XX, es pionero en este interés por comprender y representar la realidad que se vive en su tiempo. En estos primeros años, a partir de datos objetivos, los investigadores fueron presentando propuestas, algunas más utópicas y otras mas realistas, para solucionar los problemas del urbanismo. Los análisis de la ciudad de Patrick Geddes o los diseños funcionalistas de Le Corbusier, encontrarían aceptación y crítica a partir de los años 50. Proyectos como los de Constant Nieuwenhuys cuestionarían el modelo de ciudad que se estaba desarrollando y daría origen a otro tipo de urbanismo, lo que los situacionistas denominarían el urbanismo unitario. La realidad económica y social que tiene la ciudad a finales del siglo XX no es la misma que con la que lo empezó. Esta nueva realidad hace necesario que los análisis urbanos evolucionen. Los trabajos que hacen Kevin Lynch en Boston o Robert Venturi en Las Vegas son ejemplos de estas nuevas formas de entender la representación y realidad dela ciudad .Al presentar esta breve evolución de la ciudad a través de sus representaciones gráficas se intentan comprender lo antecedentes de los proyectos actuales y el por qué de los mismos.
