Red Cooked Sauce (RCS) and Red Raw Sauce (RRS) are a mixture of natural crops that have a promising content of bioactive compounds (BC). The aim was to determine the effect of the indigestible fraction (IF) during the colonic fermentation in RCS and RRS by studying the two-way relationship between gut microbiota composition and microbial metabolites produced from BC fermented in the TNO in vitro dynamic model of the human colon (TIM-2). Total BC in undigested and predigested RRS, 957 and 715 mg/100 g DW, respectively, was significantly higher (p < 0.05) than in the RCS, 571 and 406 mg/100 g DW, respectively. Catenibacterium and Holdemanella increased during RCS fermentation, while 13 genera showed a clear positive correlation with most microbial phenolic metabolites. The Pantanal region, the largest floodplain in the world, has a huge biodiversity and is an important livestock center. Bovine brucellosis has been reported in the region over the last three decades, posing implications for cattle industry as well as for the maintenance of biodiversity. We aimed to investigate the presence of B. abortus S19 vaccine strain DNA in unvaccinated domestic and wild ungulates from the Brazilian Pantanal. Fifty-two heifers, 63 ovine, 24 domestic pigs, 28 feral pigs, and three Pampas deer were sampled. Brucella spp. was detected through bcsp31 PCR of blood samples in 45.3% (77/170) of the sampled animals, of which 36.4% (28/77) showed positivity in ery PCR corresponding to B. abortus S19 strain. Feral pigs presented the highest occurrence of positive samples in bcsp31 PCR (75%), followed by ovine (47.6%), domestic pigs (41.7%), and unvaccinated heifers (30.8%). We did not observe positivity in Pampas deer. Our results strongly suggest that vaccination against bovine brucellosis may promote spill-over of B. abortus S19 strain in the Pantanal region. The kinetics of thermal cis -to- trans isomerization of two tetra-( ortho )substituted 4-aminoazobenzene derivatives containing 2,6-dimethoxy groups in the 4-aminobenzene ring and either 2',6'-dimethyl ( 1 ) or 2',6'-dichloro groups in another ring was studied in 16 and 9 solvents, respectively, at room temperature. In addition, the kinetics of isomerization of 1 was studied at variable temperatures in 6 solvents. The solvent effects were analyzed in terms of multiparameter correlations using the Kamlet-Taft, Catalan, and Laurence scales. The temperature dependencies were analyzed in terms of the isokinetic relationship by using Exner's method. The correlation analysis was also extended to several previously reported systems, including isomerization of unsubstituted 4-aminoazobenzene and push-pull 4-NR 2 -4'-NO 2 azobenzenes. It was established that for all 4-aminoazobenzenes in contrast to push-pull azobenzenes, the increase in solvent dipolarity does not affect or even inhibit isomerization rates; however, the increase in solvent acidity induces large rate accelerations. The isokinetic relationship holds only in aprotic solvents, while in alcohols and water, the temperature dependencies do not pass through the common point at T = T iso , indicating different mechanisms operating in protic and aprotic solvents. The acceleration effect by protic solvents does not represent a type of general acid catalysis as follows from the small solvent isotope effect k H / k D = 1.26 in water. It is suggested that protic solvents induce a change in the reaction mechanism supposedly from inversion to rotation by hydrogen bonding stabilization of the negative charge developed on the azo group in a resonance structure involving a 4-amino group.

The impact of diet composition and energy content on schistosomiasis evolution and treatment efficacy is still controversial. This study compared the impact of sucrose-rich diet and intermittent fasting on Schistosoma mansoni infection and praziquantel (PZQ)-based chemotherapy response in mice. BALB/c mice were infected with S. mansoni and followed for 15 weeks. The animals were randomized into nine groups receiving high glycemic load (high-sucrose diet - HSD), low caloric load (standard chow alternate-day fasting - ADF), and standard chow ad libitum (AL). Eight weeks after S. mansoni infection, these groups remained untreated or were treated with PZQ (300 mg/kg/day) for 3 days. Our results indicated that parasite load (S. mansoni eggs and parasite DNA levels), granulomatous inflammation (granulomas number and size), and liver microstructural damage (reduction in hepatocytes number, increase in nucleus-cytoplasm ratio, connective stroma expansion and fibrosis) were increased in ADF-treated animals. These animals also showed decreased eggs retention, granulomatous inflammation and collagen accumulation in the small intestine. Conversely, HSD diet and PZQ treatment attenuated all these parameters and stimulated hepatic regenerative response. PZQ also stimulated fibrosis resolution in HSD-treated mice, effect that was limited ADF-exposed mice. Our findings indicate that dietary glycemic and energy load can modulate schistosomiasis progression and the severity of hepatic and intestinal granulomatous inflammation in untreated and PZQ-treated mice. Background: Aging of the HIV-infected population and prolonged use of ARTs, produced metabolic alterations, including increased fracture risk. FRAX is a validated, computer-based clinical fracture risk calculator which estimates 10-year risk of major fracture, and hip fracture. However may underestimate risk in HIV-infected individuals. Several experts recommend considering HIV a cause of secondary osteoporosis., Methodology: Were included 52 men living with HIV, classified as high, moderate and low risk using ABRASSO graphic tool., Results: High risk prevalence found for major fracture and hip fracture were both 2 (4.2 %) using FRAX; while 10 (20.8 %) and 14 (29.2 %) using modified FRAX, respectively. Considering bone densitometry, 5 (12.8 %) were high risk for hip fracture and was noticed an increase in high risk major fracture from 4.2 % with FRAX to 5.1 % with FRAX considering bone densitometry. As for the low risk, 19 (39.6 %) for major fracture and 23 (47.9 %) for hip fracture with FRAX. While low risk modified FRAX were 0 (0 %) for major fracture and 8 (16.7 %) for hip fracture. Food allergy is a common event, especially in the pediatric population, affecting between 3-6% of children. There are various challenges in the care of patients with food allergy, but certainly the diversity of symptoms and the outcome of the disease are important aspects in the treatment of patients, in the development of care guidelines and in the knowledge of the Natural history of disease. The classification into phenotypes allows a better understanding of the evolution of food allergy. The endotype is a subtype of a phenotype defined by its pathophysiological characteristic. Genetic, epigenetic, and environmental characteristics interfere with the construction of the phenotype and its possible endotypes. Understanding the phenotypes and endotypes of food allergies brings with it two fundamental aspects: 1) the need to understand that the analysis of phenotypes and endotypes in food allergies will allow establishing prognoses and helping in intervention with specific therapies, and 2) the importance of understanding The characterization of local endotypes and phenotypes, and the dietary diversity of the different countries that make up Latin America brings with it a varied menu of foods that may pose a risk of allergy that needs to be studied.

To the best of our knowledge, "sweet mini bell" peppers have not been extensively investigated. In this study, we evaluated the bioaccessible phenolic compounds released during intestinal digestion and identified and quantified the microbial metabolites derived from phenolic compounds bioconversion during the in vitro colonic fermentation. A total of 66 phenolic compounds were determined. The results obtained in this study indicate that hydroxycinnamic acids (22 to 32 mg/100 g dw) and flavonoids (99 to 102 mg/100 g dw) headed by quercetin, luteolin and kaempferol glycosidic derivatives were the main bioaccessible phenolic compounds during in vitro intestinal digestion of mini bell peppers. The yellow variety contained the highest concentration of bioaccessible flavonoids (80 mg/100 g dw). For the first time in mini bell peppers, dihydroferulic acid was detected, in the three varieties studied. 3-(4-hydroxyphenyl)propionic acid was the major metabolite found after 12-24 h fermentation of all samples (44 to 102 µM/L). Introduction: The integrated care pathways for atopic dermatitis (AD-ICPs) aim to bridge the gap between existing AD treatment evidence-based guidelines and expert opinion based on daily practice by offering a structured multidisciplinary plan for patient management of AD. ICPs have the potential to enhance guideline recommendations by combining interventions and aspects from different guidelines, integrating quality assurance, and describing co-ordination of care. Most importantly, patients can enter the ICPs at any level depending on AD severity, resources available in their country, and economic factors such as differences in insurance reimbursement systems., Methods: The GA 2 LEN ADCARE network and partners as well as all stakeholders, abbreviated as the AD-ICPs working group, were involved in the discussion and preparation of the AD ICPs during a series of subgroup workshops and meetings in years 2020 and 2021, after which the document was circulated within all GAL 2 EN ADCARE centres., Results: The AD-ICPs outline the diagnostic procedures, possible co-morbidities, different available treatment options including differential approaches for the pediatric population, and the role of the pharmacists and other stakeholders, as well as remaining unmet needs in the management of AD., Conclusion: The AD-ICPs provide a multidisciplinary plan for improved diagnosis, treatment, and patient feedback in AD management, as well as addressing critical unmet needs, including improved access to care, training specialists, implementation of educational programs, assessment on the impact of climate change, and fostering a personalised treatment approach. Pseudomonas aeruginosa ( PA ) is a leading nosocomial pathogen and has great versatility due to a complex interplay between antimicrobial resistance and virulence factors. PA has also turned into one the most relevant model organisms for the study of biofilm-associated infections. The objective of the study focused on analyzing the antimicrobial susceptibility, resistance genes, virulence factors, and biofilm formation ability of thirty-two isolates of PA. PA isolates were characterized by the following analyses: susceptibility to 12 antimicrobial agents, the presence of resistance genes and virulence factors in PCR assays, and the quantification of biofilm production as evaluated by two distinct assays. Selected PA isolates were analyzed through multilocus sequence typing (MLST). Thirty PA isolates have a multi-resistant phenotype, and most of the isolates showed high levels of resistance to the tested antibiotics. Carbapenems showed the highest prevalence of resistance. Various virulence factors were detected and, for the quantification of biofilm production, the effectiveness of different methods was assessed. The microtiter plate method showed the highest accuracy and reproducibility for detecting biofilm-producing bacteria. MLST revealed four distinct sequence types (STs) in clinical PA , with three of them considered high-risk clones of PA , namely ST175, ST235, and ST244. These clones are associated with multidrug resistance and are prevalent in hospitals worldwide. Overall, the study highlights the high prevalence of antibiotic resistance, the presence of carbapenemase genes, the diversity of virulence factors, and the importance of biofilm formation in PA clinical isolates. Understanding these factors is crucial for effective infection control measures and the development of targeted treatment strategies.

Aspilia grazielae (J. U. Santos) is an endemic plant species in Morro do Urucum in the Pantanal wetland (Brazil). A. grazielae is used for the restoration of areas impacted by iron mining activities. This study evaluates the diversity (composition, value and abundance) of endophytic fungal communities, considering parts of the plant and soil condition. The leaves and roots of A. grazielae were collected from native vegetation areas (NVA) and recovery areas (RCA) in Morro do Urucum. Illumina sequencing technology was used to investigate variation in endophytic fungal biodiversity. The operational taxonomic units detected in NVA ranged from 183 to 263 (leaf) and 115 to 285 (root), while RCA samples ranged from 200 to 282 (leaf) and 156 to 348 (root). Ascomycota phylum was the most common species among all plant samples. The most significant classes identified were Lecanoromycetes and Dothideomycetes that differed significantly ( p ≤ 0.05) according to their plant hosts and soil stress. The relative abundance of Pestalotiopsis (Sordariomycetes class) and Stereocaulon (Lecanoromycetes class) genera was influenced by the iron mining activities according to the leaf samples analysed. However, the abundance and wealth of endophytic fungal communities in A. grazielae from RCA were evidence that could explain their high resilience to environmental disturbances and the source-sink dynamics of fungal propagules.

Drought alters rice morphophysiology and reduces grain yield. This study hypothesized that the combined analysis of morphophysiological and agronomic traits enables a systemic approach to responses to water deficit, allowing the selection of resistance markers to upland rice. The objectives were to evaluate the effects of water deficit applied at the reproductive stage in plant water status, leaf gas exchanges, leaf non-structural carbohydrate contents, and agronomic traits in upland rice genotypes; and to verify if the analyzed variables may be applied to group the genotypes according to their tolerance level. Water deficit was induced by irrigation suppression in eight genotypes at R2-R3. Physiological and biochemical traits were evaluated at the end of the water deficit period, thenceforth irrigation was restored until grain maturation for the analysis of the agronomic traits. Water deficit reduced: Ψ w (63.64%, average); g s (28-90%); transpiration rate (40.63-65.45%); RWC from Serra Dourada to Esmeralda (43.36-61.48%); net CO 2 assimilation from Serra Dourada to Primavera (70.04-99.91%); i WUE from Esmeralda to Primavera (83.98-99.85%); i CE in Esmeralda (99.92%); 100-grain weight in CIRAD and Soberana (13.65-20.63%); and grain yield from Primavera to IAC 164 (34.60-78.85%). Water deficit increased C i from Cambará to Early mutant (79.64-215.23%), and did not affect the tiller number, shoot dry biomass, fructose, and sucrose contents. The alterations in the variables distinguished groups according to the water regime. Psidium guajava L. and Psidium friedrichsthalianum Nied are part of the Psidium species native to America. Nowadays, it is essential to study the phenolic compound (PC) profile and their changes during digestion and the fractions available for absorption. This study aimed to characterize the PC profile in some Psidium species and their bioaccessibility (BA). Fifty-seven compounds were identified, and forty-six belonged to ten different phenolic classes. PC profiles showed significant differences between the species and the intestinal fraction P. friedrichsthalianum Nied. showed the highest PC content, although it mostly belonged to non-extractable polyphenols. This leads to the lowest BA (37%); P. guajava L. 'Morada' showed the highest (47%). Hydroxycinnamic acids were the most stable PC after gastrointestinal digestion. Our hypothesis was that different whole oilseeds included in the diet for steers confined could alter the diversity of rumen bacteria compared to a diet without oilseeds or an exclusively forage diet. It was aimed to evaluate the effects of oilseeds inclusion in the diet on bacterial diversity in the solid fraction of the ruminal content of steers, by gene sequences of the conserved 16S rDNA region. Six crossbred steers castrated males, fitted with ruminal cannula were used in a 6 × 6 Latin square design, using 21-day period. At the start of the experiment, the live weight of the animals averaged 416 ± 9.7 kg (mean ± SD). A total of 2,180,562 16S rDNA sequences were generated for the Bacteria domain by MiSeq sequencing. The bacterial diversity was composed of 24 bacterial phyla, with the most abundant being Firmicutes, Bacteroidetes, and Proteobacteria. Other phyla with less diversity were also identified including Eurychaeota, Tenericutes, SR1 Absconditalbacteria, Synergistetes, Actinobacteria, Saccharibacteria, Elusimicrobia, Cyanobacteria, Verrucomicrobia, Fusobacteria, Lentisphaerae. The similarity in the bacterial community averaged 50% for all the experimental diets. Steers-fed corn silage exhibited a great diversity of bacteria of the Firmicutes phylum. The steers-fed oilseeds in the diet had a great diversity of bacteria from the phylum Bacteroidetes and Proteobacteria. The aim of this study was to evaluate bacterial species and diversity of methanogenic Archaea in the solid fraction of the ruminal content, through the gene sequences of the conserved 16S rDNA region, in response to the following diets: canola, cottonseed, sunflower, soybean, corn silage, and control diet. Six rumen-fistulated crossbred steers, with body weight (BW) of 416.33 ± 93.30 kg, were distributed in a 6 × 6 Latin square design. Regardless of the diet provided, amylolytic, proteolytic, and lactic bacteria were identified in the rumen fluid. Cellulolytic bacteria were predominant for all diets, reaching 47.75% of operational taxonomic units (OTUs) in animals fed with the cottonseed diet. Amylolytic bacteria reach 62.51% of OTU in animal fed sunflower diet, while proteolytic bacteria correspond to 65.96% of OTU in this same diet. Also, Megasphaera elsdenii bacterium was identified for all diets, with a greater percentage of OTU in steers fed the cottonseed diet. The diversity analysis of the species identified the methanogenic Archaea Methanobrevibacter ruminantium in all diets. We conclude that the control and corn silage diets have the most similar bacterial flora; diets with oilseeds had 47.5% similarity in rumen flora bacteria species. Animals fed with soybean showed a reduced number of methanogenic Archaea in the rumen content, which could be an alternative feed for cattle due to their low potential for energy losses with the production of methane., (© 2022. The importance of neuroinflammation in neurology is becoming increasingly apparent. In addition to neuroinflammatory diseases such as multiple sclerosis, the role of neuroinflammation has been identified in many non-inflammatory neurological disorders such as stroke, epilepsy, and cancer. The immune response within the brain involves the presence of CNS resident cells; mainly glial cells, such as microglia, the CNS resident macrophages. We evaluated the peptide Ca-MAP1 bioinspired on the C. albicans immature cytolytic toxin candidalysin to develop a less hemolytic peptide with anti-neuroinflammatory, antibacterial, and cytotoxic activity against tumor cells. In silico and in vitro studies were performed at various concentrations. Ca-MAP1 exhibits low hemolytic activity at lower concentrations and was not cytotoxic to MRC-5 and BV-2 cells. Ca-MAP1 showed activity against Acinetobacter baumannii , Escherichia coli ATCC, E. coli KPC, Klebsiella pneumoniae ATCC, Pseudomonas aeruginosa , and Staphylococcus aureus ATCC. Furthermore, Ca-MAP1 exhibits anti-neuroinflammatory activity in the BV-2 microglia model, with 93.78% inhibition of nitrate production at 18.1 µM. Ca-MAP1 presents cytotoxic activity against tumor cell line NCI-H292 at 36.3 μM, with an IC 50 of 38.4 µM. Ca-MAP1 demonstrates results that qualify it to be evaluated in the next steps to promote the control of infections and provide an alternative antitumor therapy.

Biodiesel can be produced from vegetable oils, animal fats, frying oils, and from microorganism-synthesized oils. These sources render biodiesel an easily biodegradable fuel. The aim of this work was to perform an advanced bibliometric analysis of primary studies relating to biodiesel production worldwide by identifying the key countries and regions that have shown a strong engagement in this area, and by understanding the dynamics of their collaboration and research outputs. Additionally, an assessment of the main primary feedstocks employed in this research was carried out, along with an analysis of the current and future trends that are expected to define new paths and methodologies to be used in the manufacture of biodegradable and renewable fuels. A total of 4586 academic outputs were selected, including peer-reviewed research articles, conference papers, and literature reviews related to biodiesel production, in the time period spanning from 2010 to 2021. Articles that focused on feedstocks for the production of biodiesel were also included, with a search that returned 330 papers. Lastly, 60 articles relating to biodiesel production via sewage were specifically included to allow for an analysis of this source as a promising feedstock in the future of the biofuel market. Via the geocoding and the document analyses performed, we concluded that China, Malaysia, and India are the largest writers of articles in this area, revealing a great interest in biofuels in Asia. Additionally, it was noted that environmental concerns have caused authors to conduct research on feedstocks that can address the sustainability challenges in the production of biodiesel.

Schistosoma mansoni-induced granulomas result in severe damage to the host's liver, as well as neurological and metabolic disorders. We evaluated the biochemical and behavioral changes during schistosomiasis under three diet protocols: ad libitum (AL), alternate-day fasting (ADF) and a high-sucrose/caloric diet (HSD). Healthy male BALB/c mice were divided into noninfected, matched infected and infected/treated [praziquantel (PZQ)] groups. Caloric intake and energy efficiency coefficients associated with diets were measured. Behavioral (exploratory and locomotor) and biochemical (glucose, triglycerides, total cholesterol, AST, ALT, ALP, and γ-GT) tests and histological analysis were performed. Fifteen weeks postinfection, HSD and PZQ promoted weight gain, with higher caloric consumption than ADF (p < 0.05), reflecting serum glucose levels and lipid profiles. HSD and PZQ prevented liver dysfunction (AST and ALT) and significantly prevented increases in granuloma area (p < 0.05). HSD and PZQ also significantly improved mouse physical performance in exploratory and locomotor behavior (p < 0.05), reversing the impaired motivation caused by infection. Background: Eugenol shows both antibacterial and antiparasitic activities, suggesting that it might be evaluated as an option for the treatment of praziquantel-resistant schistosome., Methods: The in vitro activities of three eugenol derivatives (FB1, FB4 and FB9) on adult worms from Schistosoma mansoni were examined by fluorescence and scanning electron microscopy to analyze effects on the excretory system and integument damage, respectively. Biochemical tests with verapamil (a calcium channel antagonist) and ouabain (a Na + /K + -ATPase pump inhibitor) were used to characterize eugenol derivative interactions with calcium channels and the Na + /K + -ATPase, while in silico analysis identified potential Na + /K + -ATPase binding sites., Results: The compounds showed effective doses (ED 50 ) of 0.324 mM (FB1), 0.167 mM (FB4), and 0.340 mM (FB9). In addition, FB4 (0.322 mM), which showed the lowest ED 50, ED 90 and ED 100 (p < 0.05), caused the most damage to the excretory system and integument, according to both fluorescence and scanning electron microscopy analysis. The death of adult worms was delayed by ouabain treatment plus FB1 (192 versus 72 hours) and FB9 (192 versus 168 hours), but the response to FB4 was the same in the presence or absence of ouabain. Besides, no changes were noted when all of the eugenol derivatives were combined with verapamil. Background: Stroke is one of the main causes of death worldwide. Educational interventions on stroke are potentially effective in reducing the period between the onset of symptoms and the initial emergency medical assistance., Objectives: To assess high school students' knowledge of stroke., Design and Setting: Cross-sectional study conducted in high schools in northeastern Brazil., Methods: A self-structured questionnaire survey regarding stroke awareness was applied among high school students in northeastern Brazil. Data were collected between 2018 and 2019. The chi-square test and other descriptive statistics were used. Univariate and multivariate analyses were performed using logistic regression., Results: A total of 1,788 students were analyzed. Eighty percent (n = 1430) of them did not have the minimum knowledge on how to act in a stroke situation. Only 10% (n = 179) presented the ideal knowledge on how to act. Males presented lower levels of knowledge on risk factors (odds ratio, OR: 0.62%; 95% confidence interval, CI: 0.49-0.79) and signs and symptoms of stroke (OR: 0.63%; 95% CI: 0.52-0.77). Students with ≥ 10 years of schooling (OR: 1.64%; 95% CI: 1.30-2.07) demonstrated greater knowledge of signs and symptoms of stroke. Students aged 18 years (OR: 1.70%; 95% CI: 1.14-2.52) demonstrated greater knowledge than other ages regarding the telephone number of the emergency medical services., Conclusions: There was a knowledge deficit with regard to recognizing stroke and activating the emergency medical services. The findings apply to the sample investigated and suggest that there is a need for stroke educational interventions, starting in high school.

Bacillus &nbsp; clausii is a probiotic that benefits human health. Its key characteristics include the ability to form spores; the resulting tolerance to heat, acid, and salt ensures safe passage through the human gastrointestinal tract with no loss of cells. Although B . clausii has been widely used for many decades, the beneficial properties of other probiotics, such as Lactobacillus spp. and Bifidobacterium spp., are better disseminated in the literature. In this review, we summarize the physiological, antimicrobial, and immunomodulatory properties of probiotic B . clausii strains. We also describe findings from studies that have investigated B . clausii probiotics from the perspective of quality and safety. We highlight innovative properties based on biochemical investigations of non-probiotic strains of B . clausii , revealing that B . clausii may have further health benefits in other therapeutic areas.

The first observation of the semileptonic b-baryon decay Λ&#95;{b}^{0}→Λ&#95;{c}^{+}τ^{-}ν[over ¯]&#95;{τ}, with a significance of 6.1σ, is reported using a data sample corresponding to 3  fb^{-1} of integrated luminosity, collected by the LHCb experiment at center-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV at the LHC. The τ^{-} lepton is reconstructed in the hadronic decay to three charged pions. The ratio K=B(Λ&#95;{b}^{0}→Λ&#95;{c}^{+}τ^{-}ν[over ¯]&#95;{τ})/B(Λ&#95;{b}^{0}→Λ&#95;{c}^{+}π^{-}π^{+}π^{-}) is measured to be 2.46±0.27±0.40, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. The branching fraction B(Λ&#95;{b}^{0}→Λ&#95;{c}^{+}τ^{-}ν[over ¯]&#95;{τ})=(1.50±0.16±0.25±0.23)% is obtained, where the third uncertainty is from the external branching fraction of the normalization channel Λ&#95;{b}^{0}→Λ&#95;{c}^{+}π^{-}π^{+}π^{-}. The ratio of semileptonic branching fractions R(Λ&#95;{c}^{+})≡B(Λ&#95;{b}^{0}→Λ&#95;{c}^{+}τ^{-}ν[over ¯]&#95;{τ})/B(Λ&#95;{b}^{0}→Λ&#95;{c}^{+}μ^{-}ν[over ¯]&#95;{μ}) is derived to be 0.242±0.026±0.040±0.059, where the external branching fraction uncertainty from the channel Λ&#95;{b}^{0}→Λ&#95;{c}^{+}μ^{-}ν[over ¯]&#95;{μ} contributes to the last term. This result is in agreement with the standard model prediction.

Events containing a Z boson and a charm jet are studied for the first time in the forward region of proton-proton collisions. The data sample used corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 6  fb^{-1} collected at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV with the LHCb detector. In events with a Z boson and a jet, the fraction of charm jets is determined in intervals of Z-boson rapidity in the range 2.0

The health-disease process can be influenced by the intestinal microbiota. As this plays a fundamental role in protecting the organism, the importance of studying the composition and diversity of this community becomes increasingly evident. Changes in the composition of the intestinal bacterial community may result in dysbiosis, and this process may contribute to triggering various diseases in all biological systems. This imbalance of intestinal microbiota homeostasis may alter commensal bacteria and the host metabolism, as well as immune function. Dysbiosis also causes an increase in intestinal permeability due to exposure to molecular patterns associated with the pathogen and lipopolysaccharides, leading to a chronic inflammatory process that can result in diseases for all biological systems. In this context, dietary intervention through the use of probiotics, prebiotics and antioxidant foods can be considered a contribution to the modulation of intestinal microbiota. Probiotics have been used to provide up to 10 billion colony forming units, and probiotic foods, Kefir and fermented natural yogurt are also used. Prebiotics, in turn, are found in supplemental formulations of processed foods and in functional foods that are also sources of phenolic compounds, such as flavonoids, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory substances, polyunsaturated fatty acids, vitamins, and minerals. In this review, we will discuss the relationship between an imbalance in the intestinal microbiota with the development of diseases, besides indicating the need for future studies that can establish bacterial parameters for the gastrointestinal tract by modulating the intestinal microbiota, associated with the adoption of healthy habits during all life cycles.

Gut microbiota is a complex ecosystem of symbiotic bacteria that contribute to human metabolism and supply intestinal metabolites, whose production is mainly influenced by the diet. Dietary patterns characterized by a high intake of protein promotes the growth of proteolytic bacteria's, which produce metabolites from undigested protein fermentation. Microbioal protein metabolites can regulate immune, metabolic and neuronal responses in different target organs. Metabolic pathways of these compounds and their mechanisms of action on different pathologies can lead to the discovery of new diagnostic techniques, drugs and the potential use as functional ingredients in food. This review discusses the potential mechanisms by which amino acid catabolism is involved in microbial protein metabolites. Two of the most important Mexican plant-foods are tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.) and husk tomato (Physalis ixocarpa Brot.). In this study three objectives were followed: i) to evaluate the bioaccessible phenolic compounds (PC) in T and HT during upper gastrointestinal digestion, ii) to in vitro ferment the indigestible fractions of the samples to evaluate the short-chain fatty acids (SCFA) production, iii) the microbial metabolites, bioconverted PC and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) generated during the fermentation. Vanillic acid was the most bioaccessible PC and after 48 h, 3-hydroxyphenylacetic acid was the most abundant microbial metabolite identified in both samples. The identification of VOCs belonging to terpenes (and derivatives) group in T and HT can be product of the microbial metabolism of carotenoids. The study shows new knowledge of the in vitro intestinal digestion and fermentation of T and HT final compounds with biological potential which should be evaluated in further studies., (Copyright © 2021 Elsevier Ltd. The objective of this work was to verify the relationships between environmental conditions and microbial processes along a raw-light greywater flow in an improved constructed wetland (CW) system. Physicochemical analysis and high-throughput DNA sequencing were performed in the different zones to investigate the environmental conditions and microbial communities. The results showed that the system operated predominantly under anaerobic conditions, with redox potential (Eh) increasing from the inlet (-342.9 mV) to the outlet (-316.4 mV). Conversely, the chemical oxygen demand (COD) decreased along the greywater flow, suggesting negative correlation between these characteristics. The zones of the evapotranspiration and treatment tank (CEvaT) were characterized by lower community diversity and richness and by the presence of specific groups: Proteobacteria and Synergistetes related to the first steps of the conversion of organic carbon, in the bottom layer inside the anaerobic chamber (AnC); methanogens (Methanosaeta and Methanobacterium) and sulphate-reducing bacteria (Desulfovibrio, Desulforhabdus and Desulfomonile) in the middle layer; and microorganisms associated with the nitrogen cycle and oxygen release (Acinetobacter, Novosphingobium, Candidatus Nitrososphaera) in the top layer. On the other hand, the increase of the ORP and decrease of organic matter concentrations were associated with higher community diversity and richness in the middle layer of the CW, which showed higher abundance of microorganisms involved in methane (Methylobacterium and Candidatus Koribacter) and sulphur (Rhodoblastus and Thiobacillus) oxidation., (© 2021. In addition to its health benefits, exercise training has been noted as a modulator of the gut microbiota. However, the effects of resistance training (RT) on gut microbiota composition remain unknown. Wistar rats underwent 12 weeks of RT. Body mass, glucose tolerance, visceral body fat, triglyceride concentration and food consumption were evaluated. The gut microbiota was analyzed by 16S rRNA gene sequencing. Rats that underwent RT showed lower body mass (P=0.0005), lower fat content (P=0.02) and better glucose kinetics (P=0.047) when compared with the control. Improvements in the diversity and composition of the gut microbiota were identified in the RT group. The relative abundance of Pseudomonas, Serratia and Comamonas decreased significantly after 12 weeks of RT (P<0.001). Klebsiella pneumoniae is a major pathogen implicated in nosocomial infections. Extended-spectrum β-lactamase (ESBL)-producing K. pneumoniae isolates are a public health concern. We aim to characterize the type of β-lactamases and the associated resistance mechanisms in ESBL-producing K. pneumoniae isolates obtained from blood cultures in a Portuguese hospital, as well as to determine the circulating clones. Twenty-two cefotaxime/ceftazidime-resistant (CTX/CAZR) K. pneumoniae isolates were included in the study. Identification was performed by MALDI-TOF MS and the antimicrobial susceptibility testing by disk-diffusion. The screening test for ESBL-production was performed and ESBL-producer isolates were further characterized. The presence of different beta-lactamase genes (blaCTX-M, blaSHV, blaTEM, blaKPC, blaNDM, blaVIM, blaOXA-48, blaCMY-2, blaDHA-1, blaFOX, blaMOX, and blaACC) was analyzed by PCR/sequencing in ESBL-producer isolates, as well as the presence of other resistance genes (aac(6')-Ib-cr, tetA/B, dfrA, qnrA/B/S, sul1/2/3) or integron-related genes (int1/2/3). Multilocus-sequence-typing (MLST) was performed for selected isolates. ESBL activity was detected in 12 of the 22 CTX/CAZR K. pneumoniae isolates and 11 of them carried the blaCTX-M-15 gene (together with blaTEM), and the remaining isolate carried the blaSHV-106 gene. All the blaCTX-M-15 harboring isolates also contained a blaSHV gene (blaSHV-1, blaSHV-11 or blaSHV-27 variants). Both blaSHV-27 and blaSHV-106 genes correspond to ESBL-variants. Two of the CTX-M-15 producing isolates carried a carbapenemase gene (blaKPC2/3 and blaOXA-48) and showed imipenem resistance. The majority of the ESBL-producing isolates carried the int1 gene, as well as sulphonamide-resistance genes (sul2 and/or sul3); the tetA gene was detected in all eight tetracycline-resistant isolates. Three different genetic lineages were found in selected isolates: ST348 (one CTX-M-15/TEM/SHV-27/KPC-2/3-producer isolate), ST11 (two CTX-M-15/TEM/SHV-1- and CTX-M-15-TEM-SHV-11-OXA-48-producer isolates) and ST15 (one SHV-106/TEM-producer isolate). Husk tomato (Physalis ixocarpa Brot. ex. Horm) is mainly used in the preparation of many Mexican sauces due to its unique and slightly acidic flavor, both in raw and cooked forms. These sauces also usually contain Serrano hot pepper (Capsicum annuum L), onion (Allium cepa L.), garlic (Allium sativum L.), coriander (Coriandrum sativum L.) and salt. Mexican sauces are a pre-Hispanic staple food, yet there is scarce knowledge on the phenolic compounds (PC) that reach the colon bound to the indigestible fraction (IF) after intestinal digestion. Thus, the aim of the present work was to evaluate the indigestible fraction of two types of Mexican sauces made with cooked and raw husk tomato: cooked green sauce (CGS) and raw green sauce (RGS). IF of CGS and RGS were fermented in the in vitro model of the human colon (TIM-2) to investigate the PC bioconversion by the gut microbiota after 24, 48 and 72 h. PC of the original sauces and their predigested fractions, as well as the formed metabolites were identified and monitored by HPLC-ESI-QToF-MS. Cooking husk tomato significantly increased the total indigestible fraction (TIF), mainly due to its insoluble indigestible fraction (IIF), and diminished PC. Flavonoids (flavonols and flavones) were the most abundant phenolic group in digested sauces followed by capsaicinoids (a characteristic group derived from hot pepper), hydroxycinnamic acids, and hydroxybenzoic acids. The metabolites 3-(ρ-hydroxyphenyl) propionic acid, 3-(3-hydroxyphenyl) propionic acid and 4-hydroxyphenylacetic acid were the most abundant colonic metabolites identified, which are thought to be derived from the biotransformation of flavonoids and hydroxycinnamates. Intersomatic fusion is a very popular treatment for spinal diseases associated with intervertebral disc degeneration. The effects of three different hybrid stabilization systems on both range of motion and intradiscal pressure were investigated, as there is no consensus in the literature about the efficiency of these systems. Finite element simulations were designed to predict the variations of range of motion and intradiscal pressure from intact to implanted situations. After hybrid stabilization system implantation, L4-L5 level did not lose its motion completely, while L5-S1 had no mobility as a consequence of disc removal and fusion process. BalanC hybrid stabilization system represented higher mobility at the index level, reduced intradiscal pressure of adjacent level, but caused to increment in range of motion by 20% under axial rotation. Higher tendency by 93% to the failure was also detected under axial rotation. Dynesys hybrid stabilization system represented more restricted motion than BalanC, and negligible effects to the adjacent level. B-DYN hybrid stabilization system was the most rigid one among all three systems. It reduced intradiscal pressure and range of motion at the adjacent level except from motion under axial rotation being increased by 13%. Fracture risk of B-DYN and Dynesys Transition Optima components was low when compared with BalanC. Mobility of the adjacent level around axial direction should be taken into account in case of implantation with BalanC and B-DYN systems, as well as on the development of new designs. Having these findings in mind, it is clear that hybrid systems need to be further tested, both clinically and numerically, before being considered for common use.

"Serrano" pepper is extensively used in Mexican cuisine. The aim of this study was to identify the bioaccessible phenolic compounds (PC) of "Serrano" pepper as well as short-chain fatty acids (SCFA) produced and PC bioconverted using an in vitro step-wise gastromimetic model of the intestinal digestion and anaerobic fermentation of the isolated indigestible fraction (IF). The anti-topoisomerase activity of the fermented samples was also evaluated. PC bioaccessibility was about 45% in the small intestine. Chlorogenic acid and capsaicin were identified during the intestinal digestion, while quercetin was identified as available to the gut microbiota. After 48-h fermentation, SCFA molar ratio was 77:11:12 for acetic, propionic and butyric acid. The PC identified in IF and after 12 h of fermentation showed anti-topoisomerase activity. A synergistic effect among the PC and gut metabolites mixture was observed, which indicates a possible antiproliferative mechanism that should be tested in further studies.

Parasitic diseases have attracted worldwide attention of their consequent impact on mortality and morbidity. Accordingly, several plants have been screened for antiparasitic activity aiming to create new alternatives for treatment. These diseases have been neglected and have not attracted worldwide attention (nowadays), the health concerns are focused in chronic diseases, but it is necessary to focus on parasitic diseases and look for prophylactic alternatives, such as plant extracts. Although camu-camu (Myrciaria dubia) seeds are a rich source of antioxidant antimutagenic, cytotoxic, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, antihypertensive and neuroprotective compounds, nothing is known about their antiparasitic effects. Thus, in the present study we aimed to evaluate five extracts of camu-camu seeds (100% water, 100% ethyl alcohol, 50% water + 50% ethyl alcohol, 25% water + 75% ethyl alcohol, and 75% water + 25% ethyl alcohol) in relation to their in vitro antimalarial, antischistosomicidal, leishmanicidal and anti-hemolytic effects. The extracts exhibited antischistosomicidal (ED 50 values from 418.4 to >1000.0 µg/mL) and antimalarial activities (IC 50 values from 24.2 to 240.8 µg/mL) for both W2 and 3D7 strains in all intra-erythrocytic stages. Correlation analysis showed that the toxic effects may mainly be attributed to methylvescalagin (r = -0.548 to -0.951, p < 0.05) and 2,4-dihydroxybenzoic acid (r = -0.612 to -0.917, p < 0.05) contents. Moreover, the anti-hemolytic effect was associated to methylvescalagin (r = -0.597, p < 0.05). No toxic effects were observed for leishmaniasis and IMR90 normal cells. Background: The root system plays a major role in plant growth and development and root system architecture is reported to be the main trait related to plant adaptation to drought. However, phenotyping root systems in situ is not suited to high-throughput methods, leading to the development of non-destructive methods for evaluations in more or less controlled root environments. This study used a root phenotyping platform with a panel of 20 japonica rice accessions in order to: (i) assess their genetic diversity for a set of structural and morphological root traits and classify the different types; (ii) analyze the plastic response of their root system to a water deficit at reproductive phase and (iii) explore the ability of the platform for high-throughput phenotyping of root structure and morphology., Results: High variability for the studied root traits was found in the reduced set of accessions. Using eight selected traits under irrigated conditions, five root clusters were found that differed in root thickness, branching index and the pattern of fine and thick root distribution along the profile. When water deficit occurred at reproductive phase, some accessions significantly reduced root growth compared to the irrigated treatment, while others stimulated it. It was found that root cluster, as defined under irrigated conditions, could not predict the plastic response of roots under drought., Conclusions: This study revealed the possibility of reconstructing the structure of root systems from scanned images. It was thus possible to significantly class root systems according to simple structural traits, opening up the way for using such a platform for medium to high-throughput phenotyping. The study also highlighted the uncoupling between root structures under non-limiting water conditions and their response to drought.

Despite constituting part of the human commensal flora, Corynebacterium pseudodiphtheriticum has been recognized as a potentially infectious agent, most frequently in immunocompromised patients or individuals with other morbidity factors, but significant association to comorbid states remains unproven. This study's purpose was to assess clinical significance, risk factors for infection and antimicrobial susceptibility of C. pseudodiphtheriticum isolates. A retrospective observational study was conducted. Relevance of isolation was determined by clinical, laboratory, and imaging criteria. Forty-nine isolates occurred in 47 episodes. Colonization was assumed in 12% and infection in 78%, of which 51% were nosocomial. Patients with infection were older, with male predominance; both age and gender were statistically significant (p < 0.05) between infection and colonization groups. Although dyslipidemia (58%), arterial hypertension (58%), invasive procedures (56%), and chronic lung disease (50%) were prevalent in the infection group, no comorbidity was a significant risk factor for infection compared with colonization. Charlson comorbidity index showed no statistically difference between groups. Mortality rate was 14% in infection. Respiratory samples were the main isolation product; all tested strains were susceptible to amoxicillin/clavulanate and vancomycin. Resistant strains were observed for clindamycin (77%) and erythromycin (48%). C. pseudodiphtheriticum isolation was associated with infection in most cases. Despite the high prevalence of comorbidities and invasive procedures, no factors other than age and gender were significantly associated with infection. Although C. pseudodiphtheriticum may constitute a contaminant or colonizer in clinical samples, positive cultures in patients with signs and symptoms consistent with infection should not be neglected.

This work describes the educational game "Integrating Synapse, Muscle Contraction, and Autonomic Nervous System," which was developed to assist students in understanding and integrating concepts related to the physiology of synapses, muscle contraction, and the autonomic nervous system. Analysis was made of the effect of the game on learning and the students' opinions about it. Dentistry students were divided into control and game groups. They attended lectures about the topics, after which the control group students were submitted to a test, whereas the game group performed the game activity before undertaking the test. The mean score was significantly higher for the game group, compared with the control group ( P < 0.05). Pharmacy students also attended lectures about these topics; in the next class, the students performed a pretest and the activity with the educational game. After the game, a posttest was applied. The mean scores were significantly higher for the posttest than for the pretest ( P < 0.05). Students of medicine attended the lectures and performed the activity with the educational game, without the learning assessment. All of the students answered a question, using a 5-point Likert-type scale, concerning whether they thought the activity with the game was useful for learning. The mean scores obtained by the dentistry, pharmacy, and medicine students were 4.7 ± 0.6, 4.9 ± 0.3, and 4.3 ± 0.1, respectively. The educational game increased the learning of the undergraduate students, in agreement with their opinions of the strategy.

Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) are often found in infected diabetic foot ulcers, in which the prevalence may reach 40%. These complications are one of the main causes of morbidity in diabetic patients. The objectives of this study were to investigate the prevalence and antimicrobial resistance of MRSA strains in infected diabetic foot ulcers and to characterize their genetic lineages. Samples collected from 42 type 2 diabetic patients, presenting infected foot ulcers, were seeded onto ORSAB plates with 2 mg/L of oxacillin for MRSA isolation. Susceptibility to 14 antimicrobial agents was tested by the Kirby-Bauer disk diffusion method. The presence of resistance genes, virulence factors, and the immune evasion cluster system was studied by PCR. All isolates were characterized by MLST, accessory gene regulator (agr), spa, and staphylococcal chromosomal cassette mec (SCCmec) typing. Twenty-five MRSA strains were isolated. All isolates showed resistance to penicillin and cefoxitin. Sixteen isolates showed phenotypic resistance to erythromycin being 7 co-resistant to clindamycin. Resistance to trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole was found in 2 isolates harboring the dfrA and dfrG genes. The IEC genes were detected in 80% of isolates, 16 of which were ascribed to IEC-type B. Isolates were assigned to 12 different spa types. The MLST analysis grouped the isolates into 7 sequence types being the majority (68%) ascribed to SCCmec type IV. In this study, there was a high prevalence of the EMRSA-15 clone presenting multiple resistances in diabetic foot ulcers making these infections complicated to treat leading to a higher morbidity and mortality in diabetic patients.
