Abstract

Alhambra is a medieval Moorish fortress and palace in Granada, Spain, that was later converted into a royal residence and tourist attraction. The fortress's name comes from the original Arabic Qal-at al-Hamra, meaning "the red fort," which references the red clay used in the fort's initial construction. It is regarded as one of the best examples of medieval Islamic architecture in the world. Its palaces were first constructed in the thirteenth century by the Nasrid dynasty, which consisted of the last Muslim rulers of Spain, and later expanded by Spain's Christian rulers.
